    played mostly FFXIV and a few hours in the last few FF games and I have to say the story in this game is absolutely fantastic, the world is engaging and the characters feel like they have agency outside of Clive's story. I'm about 20 hours into the game so far and absolutely loving it

    As a huge fan of Final Fantasy games, I gotta say they stepped out of the box in the right direction. The combat is fun and I don't care what anyone says you must perform combos and learn them on the harder difficulty. The cinematic and breathtaking, the characters are amazing, and the story is turning out to be one of my favorites! It's sad that people need to act childish and review bombAs a huge fan of Final Fantasy games, I gotta say they stepped out of the box in the right direction.     One of the greatest games of this year for sure.
    A wonderful characters with a good story make a great mixture and with a stunning gameplay and , perfect music and osts for every situation and place. All of that together makes a masterpiece.

    Just incredible! VA, battle, and story are excellent. It may even be the best FF of all time. I really like the mature path they took.

    As a big Final Fantasy fan spending most of my childhood playing Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9 and 10. I can say that this game is huge to me its story is beautiful and told in such a great way that the voice acting looks the part and the characters depth is on point i believe this Final Fantasy game is as good as all the old ones i played.     I really was hesitant about playing this game at first. I’m glad I was wrong. I really am more about the old style of FF but honestly this game surprised me and I fell in love with it.
    It has a great main character named Clive who really is looking for his purpose in the world while reconciling with his past. Kinda like a cross of DMV/GOW/FF style which at first I didn’t like but once I played it it was so fluid and had great mechanics. Cut scenes are a chefs kiss to quality while the graphics push the PS5 to the limit. Eikon battles are amazing!!!! Characters are very memorable. Can’t wait for more like this but still would like to see the old style of FF gameplay once in a awhile. If they mix it up like that it would be great! Once again I’m glad I was wrong about this game, and I can keep saying more good of it.
    Only cons were, mouths were off when talking and some fps drops. Which isn’t too big of a deal to me since the fps drops was for like a second Great job SquareEnix    … Expand

    People just have too many prejudices when playing FF XVI, especially these purist players that think everything old and classic is better and everything new is trash or garbage.     Unquestionably one of the best games I have ever played in this year. Everything is almost perfect, the characters are really likeable; every character has his own personality, background and desires/ambitions. There’s even characters you’ll like from the first scene.     The music of the game truly astonishing; depending on the situation, the music vary between calm music in the peaceful moments and dramatic osts in the dramatic/action battles and scenes.
    The gameplay is quite good, excellent actually.
    Every character has its own abilities and way of fight, the abilities of the protagonist (Clive) and how every ability is totally different and unique is perfect. The combos you can do and the abilities you can use combined is pleasing.

    Very good story and combat system. Most characters are really well written. Also a beuatifully faithful medieval European setting with the appropriate diversity of the different indigenous European populations.

    I will start by saying this game is not a perfect game. However, after the sadness of ff15 this is a phenomenal come back. There are performance issues and the battle system could be better, but where has a story this immersive and memorable ever shown up in a game.     This game is great! It is nice to see Final Fantasy go back to a medieval setting with a much more mature story. Graphics and gameplay are top notch and with two settings at the start of the game you decide what best fits your gaming style on whether to have an action focused experience or a story focused experience.     Best Final Fantasy since almost two decades.
    The story is fascinating. I love the combat system.
    And I find the design of the world very well done.
    I don't notice the 30 FPS in graphics mode at all, unlike in other games.

    I have been playing Final Fantasy since FF7 on the PSOne and have been following the numbered series ever since. Some entries in the series were not as important or impressive as the ones I had the chance to play. However, FF16, despite setting aside some RPG aspects, returns with what has always made Final Fantasy unique. To my surprise, it's not just the RPG elements that keep this gameI have been playing Final Fantasy since FF7 on the PSOne and have been following the numbered series ever since. Some entries in the series were not as important or impressive as the ones I had the chance to play. However, FF16, despite setting aside some RPG aspects, returns with what has always made Final Fantasy unique. To my surprise, it's not just the RPG elements that keep this game alive to this day. The story is very well done and really captivating. The side quests feel a bit MMO style to me, which is not great but they pick up towards the middle of the game and really help with world building. The game is not open world, but does a good job breaking the zones apart in a way that doesn’t feel tight, and doesn’t really reward exploration which I feel they could have done a better job at. Overall, it’s a great game with tons of fun elements that give final fantasy fans something to be excited about. I would give this game a 9/10 as a solid new installment in the final fantasy series, they continue to do what everyone loves and give us a fresh take on the series. I rated it a 10 here specifically to offset some of the miserable, insufferable people who gave “0”s to a game that was clearly developed with a lot of passion and love.     At first I was worried about the combat system but, I am very pleased with what they have done with this. The narrative is awesome and to me the characters seem very well written so far. I am very excited to continue playing through the story.

They do a wonderful job at pulling at your heart strings, making you care about the NPCs you meet during your journey. It's not a play safe happy story. Its filled with blood, death, consequences, and really makes you despise the antagonists. The battles get much harder as theIncredible action, emotionally driven story that doesn't need to be super deep. The Medieval setting is fantastic.     I REALLY love how they used Aions in this. Instead of summoning for help, you BECOME them, and get to have Glorious Giant Kaiju Battles. Ifrit really comes off as a giant, fire breathing monster of destruction. If you like world building, lore, character development and really feeling like you're part of this world you'll love this game. Side quests might seem irrelevant, but many are you getting to know more about the people, the world, and learning the knowledge of the games history.    … Expand

    The visuals and story telling are insanely good, twists, turns, and it all makes sense and flows. Nothing convoluted but deep enough to become immersed in. A triumph of a balancing act... The battles and characters are well developed with plenty of variety. Especially the occasional big boss battle which play slightly more like a street fighter game.     COMBAT has me HOOKED!

    Developing and executing combos with various Eikon abilities has been my #1 favourite thing to do in this game!

    Not just the combat, the darn story has me going through a rollercoaster of emotions! I am seriously satisfied with the game and would definitely recommend it- 10/10

    This is definitely an FF game.

    This is one of the best games of 2023 and also one of the best games ever made. This is objective fact, you can dislike that fact, but it remains a fact. Very likely GOTY, unless Spider-Man 2 does something incredible. Also, ignore fake negative reviews.

    I consider this to be the Final Fantasy the saga needed, to move on and to grow up and be on the same level of its fans.

    The story is simply easy to follow, intriguing, enjoyable, and also keeps you in a constant cliffhanger wanting to know what will follow. Sometimes it feels predictable and it end up surprising the player. Characters are great so far, both the good ones , the villains    I consider this to be the Final Fantasy the saga needed, to move on and to grow up and be on the same level of its fans.

    The story is simply easy to follow, intriguing, enjoyable, and also keeps you in a constant cliffhanger wanting to know what will follow. Sometimes it feels predictable and it end up surprising the player.

    Characters are great so far, both the good ones , the villains and secondary neutral characters, combat is extremely fun and addicting. It should have a harder option on the base game for the action combat enjoyers, but we got new game plus for that.

    The world, graphics, art style, etc are incredibly detailed and beautiful.

    I hope Final Fantasy continue to grow in this direction, and i recommend interested people to start with this new entry.    … Expand

    First I would like to iterate that I have about 30 hours in the game so far so I’m not finished with the story as of now but can give a good summary as to where my headspace is at with this awesome game!

    This is arguably one of the best FINAL FANTASY games I have had the pleasure of playing for years now beside FFXIV. As a fan of the series my self for over a decade my definition of    First I would like to iterate that I have about 30 hours in the game so far so I’m not finished with the story as of now but can give a good summary as to where my headspace is at with this awesome game!

    This is arguably one of the best FINAL FANTASY games I have had the pleasure of playing for years now beside FFXIV. As a fan of the series my self for over a decade my definition of FINAL FANTASY would be its sprawling worlds and characters that fill it, as well as each games rich story and lore with recurring chocobos, crystals and Cid’s! FINAL FANTASY XVI delivers on all of these fronts giving a deep story with lovable characters, chocobos and YES Cid’s! Moreover It’s amazingly fast action combat for the first time in the series, for my experience I think this combat is so good that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was implemented in future entries.

    FINAL FANTASY XVI also delivers some of the best voice acting in a new mainline FF game to date, every encounter feeling like real people with real problems something you can’t always say with a new FINAL FANTASY game. As expected for FINAL FANTASY, it’s bosses never disappoint and it’s music even more so thanks to Masayoshi Soken’s incredible score, giving some of the most epic experiences I’ve had playing a video game and for those experiences alone I want to see this game at the front of everyone’s minds-this game is truly something special!

    Game runs fine and fits perfectly into the franchise. Entitled gamers & old ff fossils complaining about no turn based combat need to go touch grass and learn that things change. About halfway thru the story and can say with full confidence it's right up there with the all-time great final fantasys. Thank you yoshi-p and team!

    Honestly a step in the right direction compared to ff15 and 13. The combat is nice and I really like the main character. I think the story is great, but it falls of a little bit towards the end. I like the eikon customization Definetly a 10/10 IMO, but the review trolls needed to ruin something nice once again

    Turn based combat is dead and thank god for that. In fact, all FF games before FF 7 (og) are outdated and meh games. Final Fantasy got actually good with 7th entry and X was also solid, but real innovation started with FF 7 Remake where they finally made combat good and modern. FF 16 is equally good. Thank god this old nonsense is gone forever! This game is a must buy, GOTY and masterpiece!

    First FF game I've ever played and it's sold me into the series. The graphics, the story, the characters are all top notch! Although I don't think it'll win GOTY (Zelda will) mark my words, it'll get a nomination!

    Yoshi-P and the crew did it! Delivered a solid Final Fantasy game. Different, yet familiar. It is all in there and i wish the series keep innovating with new production teams experimenting new takes on the fable of the crystal. The setting and OST are only the tip of the iceberg. A must play!

    Game runs perfectly on my PS5, the gameplay is a lot of fun, and the story of the game is phenomenal. The team behind the game certainly have put a lot of love into this game and it shows, I know already that this is my game of the year.

    I really love this game! I was skeptical at first because some of the negative reviews but wow this is my game of the year. The story is captivating, the music is phenomenal, the characters are amazing, the Eikon fights are jaw dropping and the gameplay is so fun. The only gripe I may have is some of the quests are kinda weird and motion blur is a bit annoying, but other than that theI really love this game! I was skeptical at first because some of the negative reviews but wow this is my game of the year. The story is captivating, the music is phenomenal, the characters are amazing, the Eikon fights are jaw dropping and the gameplay is so fun.     These console wars are getting SO annoying, even on this web site. My main platform is PC, there is no such thing as console wars to me. I'm a gamer, I just enjoy games and that's how it should be regardless of the platform. If a game is good I'm playing it regardless of the platform, right? So please, don't be ridiculous and review THE GAME, Final anche XVI, not the console that you "hate". Any review with a 0 score is almost always a FAKE review, doesn't matter which platform or game.     Amazing game, the gameplay is a complete departure from older entries but it is for the better ! An amazing action rpg with stunning visuals amazing cinematics and the story is great. Really refreshing take on the Final Fantasy formula if yiu like fantasy and action games you can buy this game blindfolded

    Just completed the game after 37h playing and this is the game I was expecting after FFX.
    The story is a masterpiece, the characters are awesome, the world looks beautiful, the new combat fits perfect for this generation, the whole game is incredible.
    This XVI has become my favourite game of the series.

    RPG elements are a little undercooked but not so much that it comes off as neglected. It's a action combat game with RPG elements, not a RPG with action combat elements. Side quests are MMO like but have nice dialogue and there aren't too many of them. Some side quests are very interesting and get dark. This is easily the best FF since the PS2 era.     I got my peak FF vibes back, you can see the amount of work behind this... this game is incredible!! The only negatives: sidequests kinda repetitive and boring, framerate mode sucks, but dear god... the eikon fights come up for it a million times. Well done yoshi P! Don't mind if you direct this stuff until FF20

    Only halfway through so far and it's for sure the best final fantasy game I've ever played. The story so far is amazing, the graphics are amazing, and I think clive is a great protagonist.

    A wonderful game with dark story and strong characters. Final Fantasy XVI has changed its original formula but with success, full packed with action, emotion and magic, a must play. I was engulfed in the game since the very beginning and I am eager to go back to its world. Thanks Square for this game.

    Anyone who rates this game a 0 is a troll. This is an amazing game with some flaws that don't really hinder the game. If you're an old school FF fan, then it might not be for you. But if you like action and a good story, then it's perfect. This game is no less than a 7. It still oozes AAA quality. I think it's perfect for me. It won't be for everyone. But it's no way a 0-6

FF 16 builds on all the great things about the most recent Final Fantasy games, including even their MMO FF 14, to deliver an amazingly fun game. Exciting gameplay with depth and tons of expression coupled with well written and the least convoluted FF story so far are its two most standout features. However, its other featuresFF 16 proves to be a game that learned from its predecessors.     The story is INCREDIBLE. The graphics are INCREDIBLE. And the combat is legitimately fun. If you play this game with no expectations of what it should or shouldn't be, you'll enjoy yourself. Run the game at 30 FPS in graphics mode, no issues for me.

    I’ve been playing the final fantasy games since I was a kid. I am definitely a die hard fan. 13 and 15 fell short for me, and I was going into this one cautiously optimistic since Yoshi P was a part of it. I am definitely not disappointed! I love this game, the story is amazing, the combat is so much fun, especially after getting more abilities. 10/10 for sure!

    Yes you can enjoy both FF 16 , Diablo 4 and Zelda ,they are all awesome games in their own right . This game is awesome , it is worth every penny and the developers spent countless hours of sweat and hard work for our enjoyment.

    This game is the absolute best game out on PlayStation, it definitely brings you to very much engaging experience, and lastly the rest of the negative reviews are absolutely unwarranted because 80% of them are xboxbots or are people that simply can’t accept how amazing this mainline ff game truly has become.

I’m someone who will scour every new area, all the corners accessible, taking everything in. You can feel the passion put in just simply by playing. It’s been a good chuck of years since I sat down and fully played a FF game, but it immediately brings me back withI’ve lost track at the amount of times my jaws just been open, the moisture all dried up.     Game keeps getting better I'm semi late maybe 25+ in and it's great. Asuras wrath combat combined with game of thrones story is what this feels like. My pick for game of the year

    One of the cons - early game the linear feel to it doesn't feel great but expands and gets much better. That was my biggest gripe a couple hours in.

Easily the greatest game I’ve played in 2023, and well, one of the best games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.
