    Not even a battlefield game. It's a game with bots. Barely any actual capture the flag/region. The maps are too large and sparse so only vehicles matter. But there aren't 124 vehicles for everyone. It just doesn't have any battlefield things in it. Not even the core of squad gameplay taking a flag with different roles (I love being a medic or antitank).

    My favorite series for 20 years. I played the original 1942 with WW2 airplanes taking off a a carrier and bombing wake Island. I've played codename eagles the precursor to battlefield. And no one played that game. Like 100 people on all servers in the best night. Mostly like 20 people.

    Yeah. I love working as a team, taking out enemy tanks, reviving my teammates, coordinating with squads to outflank and outthink the enemy.

    This wasn't a game about being a twitch shooter. It was a game of tactics, strategies, communication, teamplay, making a plan. It was amazing. So so so so so so amazing.

    And it's over. Just like when counterstrike was new it was the best. like halflife and team fortress 2. Nothing beat battlefield.

    It was a good run DICE. You gave me the best gaming experiences I've ever had, for years and years. Battlefield 4 was the pinnacle. I actually like the cops vs robbers too. That was the best spinoff. Battlefront was pretty good too in it's own ways.

    I made the mistake of buying the 100 dollar version and I am disappointed on this halfassed game that should've been delayed for at least a few months but ea don't care and just want your money

    Coming from older battlefields like bad company 2, battlefield 3, and 4 this game is a major let down. The number of bugs is a joke and is unacceptable when you have so many studios working on one game. The lack of content is also another let down hardy any weapons, wide open maps, and no teamwork. Dice and ea really **** the bed when they made this into another hero shooter with cringyComing from older battlefields like bad company 2, battlefield 3, and 4 this game is a major let down. If they want this game to success they should just add all of bf3 into portal or remove the specialist and go back to classes also add more weapons but this will probably never happen since they all got our money and will never give us a refund which is a shame because we were all pretty pumped for this game especially watching the trailers. Hopefully they learn from this and go back to what made battlefield great.… Expand

    Just deleted off my PS5 today. This game is not fun and has few redeeming qualities. The best part of the game is Portal’s Conquest of Ages and some of the hardcore servers that were only populated on the weekends, sometimes. The main game itself sucks and is not enjoyable. There are no “battlefield moments”. The gun play is horrible, the recoil and damage is inconsistent and poorlyJust deleted off my PS5 today. This game is not fun and has few redeeming qualities. The vehicles are overpowered and impossible to take out with anti-tank weapons; and those AT weapons are too slow of projectile speed, too slow to reload, and who the eff believes that 20 years into the future there won’t be AT weapons that can lock on? And that goes to the other stupidity of “future” war using the same weapons we have now in the same calibers. Does anyone think a Keltec carbine in 22 magnum is a sniper rifle? This isn’t the future, this is an alternate reality of present day weapon systems overlayed on top of unrealistic geopolitical conflict. Where’s China, Iran, North Korea, or terrorist groups that are highlighted in the US National Defense Strategy? EA and Dice are so afraid of Chinese Communist Party backlash they won’t even put them in the game despite them being the only existential threat to the United States. Everything about this game is pathetic and I with I could get my money back. Oh yeah, and because of this sh!t show I also cancelled my EAPlay subscription. Suck it EA.… Expand

    Unplayable. So many bugs! This games does not deserve full price even if they fix it. Indeed, immediately they reduced it to 30% off, then 50%, and now it is permanently on sale. No guns, no maps, no story mode. Laggy servers. Every single aspect is bad and performs poorly if it is not glitchy. We, who paid full price, are mad at EA/DICE. I'll never pre-order again.

    I have tried to enjoy Bf2042 since launch despite a raft of issues, but finally it's really just shown a surprising lack of depth. Overall art design is good, but level design is terrible. No usable cover on capture points make you cannon fodder for mouse pad snipers. I find myself constantly popping smoke to stay alive. No peek around cover options or weapon mounting doesn't help. Vehicle balancing is broken and light transports are useless, which makes Conquest feel like a sprinting simulator. 128 player matches can be a thrill and this kept me coming back until I realised the maps were garbage. With servers seeming laggier than ever and player counts plummeting the state of the game is far from ideal. Patches have fixed assault rifle bloom and hit reg issues. But these shouldn't have existed in the first place in a game with an active beta. Dice clearly dropped the ball on what should have been a slam dunk.… Expand

    Este juego es la culminación del desproposito en que se está convirtiendo la industria del videojuego en estos últimos años: juegos ciclicos anuales sin testear y que intentan acabar una vez están en manos de los usuarios.

    En resumen, un producto incompleto, que a 3 meses de su lanzamiento está muy lejos de estar arreglado.

    Una pena para esta franquicia iconica.

    How this got a 67 on metascore is absolutely mind bending! This is the worst battlefield game I have ever played. It feels like it was created for mobile. Lack of guns, lack of customisation, lack of soul. The maps are super open and aimed at vehicles. They are so empty and clean and weird. The game is just so bad. Do not get it.

    This game is a case study in failure. The biggest failure is that it has taken away the core gameplay elements that made the Battlefield experience creating an decidedly unfun experience at every level possible. In the past players stuck with BF despite the technical problems that plagued the games and some balance issues because the core gameplay loop and design were always solid. The biggest failure is that it has taken away the core gameplay elements that made the Battlefield experience creating an decidedly unfun experience at every level possible. In the past players stuck with BF despite the technical problems that plagued the games and some balance issues because the core gameplay loop and design were always solid. That is not the case in 2042. DICE has been trying to distil what creates the ''Battlefield moments'' and in their mind it was the chaos of those moments when teams make a push for an objective. Instead they've tried to artificially create a constant chaos through injecting 128 players, twice the vehicles and open map designs. To that they tried to shoehorn in Hero shooter mechanics which can only work on small scale games (6vs6 etc) discarding the core class system which was also integral in controlling game balance. The resulting experience is just flat and unfun. On top of that, the game has unbelievably low level of core content like weapons and maps (far lower than any previous game). Even if the season plans went ahead on time, 1 map added per season would bring the main game's Map count to 11 after a whole year. This would be half or less of any previous title. It also suffers from having a lack of any immersive atmosphere and a total disconnect between artwork&backround compared to gameplay and tone deaf add-ons. On the technical aspects, the game is a big downgrade from all previous entries in the quality of visuals and animations. More importantly there is not a single mechanic/area in the game that is not suffering from bugs and the physics engine is dodgy at best. Tanks move like sand buggies almost unable to pivot on the spot and either jumping in the air every time they touch an obstacle (instead of climbing over it like a 60t tracked vehicle) or stick to small objects like super-glue and planes physics feel utterly wrong. Destruction which the franchise has as it's signature feature is heavily toned down and extremely inconsistent and un-impactful. The lack or poor quality of things like scoreboard or UI point to severe cuts in development to make the release date, even though they're being justified as 'design decisions' when they make zero sense. Even core technical things like Controller &mouse input or aim assist don't work well and feel off. Sound quality is very poor as well completely opposite to the almost benchmark quality of previous titles. Pouring salt to the wounds, we have an experienced AAA developer than needs to create a scoreboard in 3 phases with customer input. As if we're talking about a complex new industry leading innovation that they're attempting for the first time ever. This is just another confirmation of the poor state of the Development studio. To conclude, this game is a failed swansong project of a Studio on its way out that no longer has the ability to create the type of games they used to that connected with their customer base. Don't waste your money on it. Support for it will end after a year when they run out of the contractual obligation they have for the 1yr support from the pre-orders. Content and support through that year will remain the bare minimum and will be pulled as soon as its done as the customer numbers cannot sustain the 'live service model' set.… Expand

    I waited a long time to rate this game to see how things developed. The fact that the first DLC won't release until summertime is ridiculous. Of course, this isn't the only issue I have with the game, its just the final straw. I regret spending $100 on this game.     Below you'll find a list of pluses and minuses which you should consider before buying this game:

    + the music (probably thr only aspect of the game which actually impressed me)
    + plenty of fun ("only in Battlefield" moments)
    + good looking maps and biomes
    + decent performance on the PS5
    + most maps seem to be well balanced + the new mode (Hazard Zone) can be quite intense
    + Battlefield Portal has potential + loving the "plus" menu (for switching out attachments on the go)
    + vehicles can be quite fun
    + it's futuristic, yet familiar

    - missing squad and competitive features (no scoreboard, no voice chat, no squad rewards for playing together, no demote system for inactive squad leaders)
    - operators, abilities, third-person view and cosmetics (battlefield is slowly becoming a fortnite-warzone knockoff)
    - no TDM/Free-for-all modes outside portal
    - only a few guns in the game (and they are unbalanced: currently an SMG outperforms all ARs at mid range; shotguns are useless)
    - too many abilities and gadgets focused on wall hacking
    - animations look unpolished
    - no single-player campaign
    - the acting is bad, the characters behave like teenagers, not soldiers
    - no immersion, no "large scale battle" atmosphere
    - very basic customization
    - the UI can be quite cluttered at times
    - visual bugs (too many to list here)
    - unbalanced vehicles
    - some maps feel a bit too empty

    A confused mess, that completely lacks direction and identity. There's litteraly nothing to like about this game. A downgrade from previous entries in the franchise in every aspect. Bugs galore, and now, nearly three months after release, aim assist is still totally broken. It's more of a hinderance than help.

    How far this franchise and DICE have fallen....

    I have not felt any release before Battlefield 2042 was too bad. I went through 1942 freezes, Vietnam M60 sniping, and BF2 ranking failures (persistent tracking did not update on their server). I even thought BF3/BF4 rubber banding was whatever since I still got to play Battlefield. To give perspective,    I have played BF since Battlefield 1942 and DC mod and this game is not Battlefield.

I still did not mind any of those things too much because I was playing Battlefield.

    I tried playing this game but I found myself playing other games and putting this particular game on the shelf because it's just not Battlefield. I am not sure how to explain it, but this game just does not feel or play like Battlefield. This is just another recycled FPS Generic shooter.

    I avoid games like COD, APEX, and anything with a Battle Royale because it's just not my style. Heroes are for kids. Brainless shooting without strategy is for kids. Running out in the open without a plan is for kids. Coding a game before testing it is for kids. This game was made by and for kids. It's time to go back to our PC roots and play games like ArmA and Squad and hope the old DiCE dev games like Arc Raiders is good.

    1) Map design is just TERRIBLE. A 128p lobby and the map is still a big empty world. 2) Specialists is one of the worst idea of all series. It becomes a game more about the soldiers special powers and less about tactics decisions and choosing gunfights. Sentinel ruins the game, they're everywhere. The traditional    Worst battlefield ever made. And its not about its futuristic bias.

    1) Map design is just TERRIBLE. A 128p lobby and the map is still a big empty world.

    2) Specialists is one of the worst idea of all series. It becomes a game more about the soldiers special powers and less about tactics decisions and choosing gunfights. Sentinel ruins the game, they're everywhere. The traditional classes (assault, suport, engineer, scout) have NO purpose in the game

    3) TOO MANY BUGS! You can search online and see it for yourself. Hitbox is just terrible, you cant revive friends whenever they die near walls, etc

    4) wacky controllers on the console. Aim assist is just terrible, wich makes a clear unfair fight against PC players. You need to press 2 buttons to throw a grenade, 2 buttons to throw a medkit, etc. PS5 version released without haptic feedback support

    5) NO VOIP. Wtf? How do you release a tactical shooter WITHOUT VOIP??

    6) NO SCOREBOARD!!

    7) Few maps and variety of weapons. How can a shooter like battlefield be released with ONLY 20 guns?

    8) no infantry based mode. We know that BF series is famous for its all out warfare gamestyle. But we always had infantry based modes(TDM, domination..).

    I am a huge fan of the franchise and i am so disappointed to be here criticizing the game, but its just impossible to have fun with it    … Expand

Dice has completely ruined Battlefield and Battlefront inside of 4 years. Our expectations were not “Brutal” as the whiny devs say. They were realistic. You could’ve literally given us Battlefield 4 Remake with more maps with the graphics of 2042 and new weapons, and everyone woulda been happy. That’s how low the bar is. And how far below the bar the developers actually fell. They tried to make a game for everyone who plays battle royal AND battlefield fans. That will never work.
    They are 2 different types of demographics who want different things. People buy battlefield to play battlefield, it’s not that freaking hard to understand this. Trying to combine both of those wants into the ONLY 2 FREAKING GAME MODES in the main game is really terrible project management. I don’t even count Hazard zone because Dice, from internal reports, has already given up on it on account of no one playing anymore after trying it for 1 match.

    You really can see traces of 2 different games that have nothing to do with each other here. One trying to be cool and edgy and hip, and the other actual Battlefield. Sadly it suffocates real battlefield and no one is happy. Everyone only liking and giving kudos to portal mode proves my point they could have just remade battlefield 4 with better graphics and more maps and weapons to the adulation of fans. 0/10

    portal mode is awesome. graphic is so cool. its so nostalgic to play bf 3 in portal mode. I think that's a good idea to remove classes and add specialist. one of my problem in bf4 is I cant have stinger and claymore together . but now with removing classes I can have them

    I've put 30 hours in. I'm enjoying the game. Specialists bring some nuance despite their controversial addition. Some more destruction would be nice. The maps are pretty wide open and could use some tightening up and detail added to indoor areas. Could be a bit more optimized but as of now it seems to have its major bugs ironed out.     Once this game is patched and finished, it will be a fantastic title. Depsite what you might be hearing about 2042, there is something to say about how fun this game has the potential to be. The maps, gunplay, and graphics are all very good. But the game is so broken that it's unplayable. Give it time, and this game may end up surprising a lot of us down the road.

    The amount of content is less than any other Battlefield + no single player + less guns and all out Warfare has only 2 modes conquest and breakthrough

    Battlefiled 2042 requires you to save your loadouts - Loadouts include all you gun and vehicles customisations - you can spend a decent amount of time customising each weapon and vehicles.
    Loadouts delete for some unknown reason - so you loose all your customisations - Patch 3 should fix this issue but is broken currently ( patch 3 did not fix this issue) . So wait for a fix to come in 2022

    No scoreboard - Minimal destruction -

    The Maps do look colourful but lack a lot of detail compared to past games in the series There is no Single Player - but still priced at a premium price with less Multiplayer Maps and game modes - Less guns - The price of this game should be 1/3 of its current asking price
    There are free multiplayer games that offer more value then Battle 2042

    The are countless fundamental issues with Battlefield 2042 waiting to be fixed - that you can find on the official blog post

    A terrible implementation of a first person shooter - I would wait for the user score to climb back to above 7 or 8 before purchasing this game

    It was announced that the game was ahead of schedule by the CEO - Looks like they where behind by 1 year and there was a disconnect between EA/Dice Leaders and the developers on game development and issues

    Its clearly visible that the Battlefield Players/Community where not consulted in any feedback

    All Maps look unfinished and lack detail ( wall art and detail ) compared to even Battlefield 4 which is 10 Years old

    At the END of the DAY - EA went ahead and sold us a severely broken and unfinished game with less content. The Trailer was designed to foul us into buying the worst FPS game in history and I've been exclusively playing Battlefield since BF2 This was NOT a love letter to the Fans but a slap in the face by all involved . The Marketing was dishonest and fall of lies.

Lag is everywhere, no voice chat in game, spawns are terrible, they patched it twice now and it's still broken, weapons don't load in and if you lucky, sometimes you don't spawn in or given a random kit.     There's ZERO atmosphere. BF5 and BF1 had some desperation in the atmosphere. This one is like playing paintball.

    2 points because I loved the crossplay (yeah I know people complain about it but I found it fair and nice) and because of how fast the game loads.

    Overall, the worst battlefield I've ever played and a below average FPS game in general.

    I'm trying to decide whether I want to go sell the disc or keep it in case they somehow fix it up in 6 months. But I seriously doubt this is salvageable. Maybe they'll improve the graphics. I bet they will fix the HUD. But it's never going to stop being cringeworthy, and it's never getting atmosphere.

It is like they skipped any user testing before launch and just wanted it out there before the hollidays. Hopefylly we'll get it down the line, but thinking about the hot mess they need to clean before balancing any weapons/settings or even getting to a new official server, will take a looong time.… Expand

    I’m a long time battlefield fan( sense bad company ) and BF2042 definitely brings back some good fun, I’m giving it a big fat 8. Battlefield 5 was the only battlefield I disliked a lot, this battlefield has been getting a lot of hate(I understand to an extent ). However this is just my opinion. Exited to see what’s to come and the potential it has!

    1. 128 players is completely unnecessary and doesn’t add anything to the game. With 64 players, I have always been genuinely affect the outcome of the game, but with 128 I am just a tadpole in a pond. Just like with the tornadoes, this was obviously added solely for marketing “WOW 128 PLAYERS!”
    2. Dice has traded Battlefield’s iconic destruction for this new player count and it was totally not worth it. Destruction as we have always known it in Battlefield is just non-existent. Who thought this was a good idea? It’s even there in Portal - from games over 10 years old! Destruction is one thing which creates those Battlefield moments!
    3. Specialists. *Sigh* I cannot describe just how much I hate Specialists in BF2042. This is NOT what battlefield is! I don’t want a f*cking hero shooter in my Battlefield game! Those voice likes at the end of each round are by far the most tone-deaf, ridiculous part to the entire game. I don’t f*cking care if you want to sell voice lines or stupid skins to kids at some point - THIS NONSENSE DOES NOT BELONG IN A BATTLEFIELD GAME! It’s not too late - just give us an option to play as grunts and this issue is mostly resolved.
    4. Weapon progression sucks. Your first weapon camo is unlocked after 30 kills and then the next one after 1,000. Then there is barely any difference between scopes (PS if you have to add the plus system to accommodate for such a vast array of ranges, don’t you think that your maps are a bit too big?)
    5. There isn’t enough content. 7 maps and 22 guns for only 2 MODES is shambolic for a Battlefield game.
    6. The map rotation is terrible. Because there is no persistent servers, you can end up playing one or two maps over and over again.
    7. The base game maps are poorly designed. They just aren’t fun to play - the only one I look forward to is breakaway. The others I either dislike or am indifferent to. I either spawn in and get killed immediately, or I run halfway across the map for 5 minutes and get killed immediately as soon as I reach the objective. This won’t be because I lost a firefight - it’ll either be a sniper far in the distance, or a heli will swoop down and annihilate me.
    8. Balance between vehicles and infantry is awful. Vehicles absolutely dominate every single map and it’s almost impossible to destroy a vehicle without a full squad completely dedicated to taking it out.
    9. The UI across the whole game is utterly abysmal. From the options menu to the in game hud to the weapon / class selection. It’s unintuitive and incredibly confusing.
    10. The amount of missing essential features is baffling; scoreboard, progression stats/battle log, no persistent lobbies, no class system, no diving while swimming, no naval vehicles, can’t spawn in passenger seat at round start, no additional points (headshots, assist, vehicle damage, squad wipe, multi kill etc), no squad points call ins for squad leader, no infantry-only maps. The actual list of missing features is actually about 20x longer than this - these are just the most annoying ones.

    Conclusion

    I heard that Specialists are a stepping stone for EA to turn BF into a hero shooter. For the love of god - if you want to do this then just MAKE A NEW IP! Don’t ruin a beloved franchise that millions of people have loved for decades!

    Whoever has been in charge of the direction of Battlefield during the development of BF2042 clearly doesn’t even understand what the game is. They have no respect for its history or the core fan base who have made the franchise what it is today.

    This game is an insult. Conceptualised and executed by people who have no idea what Battlefield is, and who want to turn it into a god damned hero shooter. This is the last straw. Dice / EA - fix this game and don’t you dare give us a full blown Battlefield hero shooter or I’m out.    … Expand

    I am very disapointed with this is BF2042 on PS5. It lacks a lot of basics, for exemple no 120fps or Keyboard/Mouse compatibility, what a shame, Call of Duty Licence and Fortnite both offer 120fps and Keyboard/Mouse compatibility on PS5. Wake UP guys. Thé game seems really screwed UP it's painful to see and it pains me to have bought it....

Maps and some of the worst I've ever seen, just giant empty boring spaces that have no real flow to the, the specialist system that just completely strips all team play away from the game (also no game/team chat), little to no destruction and the movement and gun play just feels cheap and unresponsive

And also this shotgun challenge is a joke, not even worth it. This franchise has officially died, I’m just so dumb to not be able to see it soon. Farewell battlefield.

    I feel Portal is the only good thing this game can offer but it's completely bare bones. This is the only mode that gets any positive points from me but ultimately this is also a let down. It is overall completely disappointing for $70 on the new console generation. I'm done with the series after this unacceptable entry. ​I highly recommend anyone get a refund if they can or trade it in while it's still worth anything.     Questo nuovo battlefield (anzi COD), riesce a far sembrare BfV un capolavoro senza uguali. Ottimo comparto tecnico ma mappe estremamente vuote, tanti (troppi) bug registrati, modalità rivedibili. Potessi tornare indietro non lo prenderei manco per 10 euro. Siamo estremamente lontani dal vecchio Bf1.

    While the repetition and lack of content cooled my enthusiasm a bit, I am excited to see where DICE can take Battlefield 2042 from here — if current industry trends hold, I’m confident this will be a strong addition to my already-full shooter rotation after a few months of additions and updates.
