I must admit, Watch Dogs didnt grab my attention like the hype did for a lot of people. Maybe thats why I enjoyed it more, but I honestly thought this was a fantastic game. There are tons of side missions and the map is huge. It seems to me the game suffers from a bit of an identity crisis at times; not sure whether to push the areas which make it great (the hacking) further or to return to the shooter-formula. This is the kind of game that really does need a sequel to fully realise its potential but as it is it's still a great game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watchdogs focuses on Aiden Pearce, a hacker that can access many of the cities electronic systems (such as traffic lights and bridges) and use them to his advantage as he attempts to track down the people responsible for the death of his young niece.

The game is based around an interesting central concept and features solid shooting, stealth and driving mechanics. The majority of the campaign missions are pretty entertaining, often offering the player some flexibility in how to complete them, and taking out or escaping enemies using the variety of electronic devices found in the environment is always great fun (although can I ask for no more missions that involve slowly following someone!).

The bewildering array of side missions on offer are also mostly just mundane mini-games and item collection and, while the hacking tech adds a nice puzzle element to proceedings, accessing towers to unlock points of interest on the map is hardly original anymore. There are a couple of more interesting ideas, such as tracking down a serial killer, but even these amount to little more than going from point to point on the map.

In the end the biggest frustration is that Ubisoft have just played things a little too safe with their insistence on sticking to the over used structure first seen in Assassins Creed about a decade ago. Had the developers been willing to take a bit more of a risk Watchdogs could have been something really special instead it has to just settle for being a good, if slightly too long, game that most people will only play through once.

The news of its delay affected people a lot more than it did me, because I knew a delay meant more work, which 99.9% of the time leads to a better gameplay experience. The gaming community covered most of what was a highly anticipated game all up until its official release on May 27th. I, myself, bought the game the day it was released. Truthfully, I honestly played it for the rest of the night. However, during the time I played it, I noticed some very clear flaws in what was supposed to be promised. Ubisoft promised a game of an open world, highly detailed, realistic future-view of Chicago while bringing you a new, long awaited physics engine with a fresh image of what will be the future of Ubisoft video games featured on the next-gen consoles. In my opinion, they did not deliver all that they promised. Part of me believes it was the hype that made the company rush the game to its release, regardless of a delay. Here are some of the problems I experienced while playing the game:

I was glitched under the map or out of the map around three or four times, I found myself stuck in a tight space that I guess Ubisoft assumed players would not find themselves in. This is an easy fix, but it's an annoyance most definitely.

Police do not chase you when you are swimming and there are no police boats, they simply stand at the edge of the water and fire at you while a police helicopter circles the vicinity you are in.

Emergency vehicle lights do not remain on if you turn them on and get out of the vehicle.

You can not fist-fight anyone in the game, regardless of who they are.

Citizens die in one shot, no matter where you shoot them.

Hollow buildings that you can not enter have blank textured windows on them that only reflect light. (see next point for light issues)

The sunlight can be seen reflecting on the blank textured windows (see previous point) during daylight. Even when the sun is hidden behind the mountains, the windows show the sun high in the sky. The lighting is not as dynamic as I expected.

It is nearly impossible to get hit by a car, and absolutely impossible to get hit by a train. In regards to the train, no matter how far away you are from it, it will instantly stop if you step out in front of it. This seems to add a futuristic safety feature of the city, but was a useless feature in my opinion. If players want to get hit by trains, let them get hit by trains.

The ragdoll and world prop physics are terrible. When I was playing, I drove my car into a streetlight and the entire structure of the light-post broke into several pieces. In regards to the ragdoll physics, this is mainly directed towards when you are on a train and you shoot a passenger. The passenger simply falls back in their seat and stays in that position for the remainder of the time you are there.

Cars disappear after so many feet, as seen in many other games.

You can not fly any aircraft.

    Driving doesn't feel real.

Excessive and repetitive radio alerts and breaking news alerts from the city. Occasionally when you are out in the streets/on the sidewalk, a breaking news alert will appear on your screen, and it will speak of the main character, Aiden Pearce. The news refers to Aiden as a "vigilante," and citizens tend to say things such as: "I think that's the guy they are (or "were") talking about on the news!" They will then proceed to call the police.

The city takes on average 5-10 minutes to drive through.

Hacking is useless unless you are using things for cover, police chases, or taking an enemy down. Shocking an electric gate is one way of taking an enemy down. Players have also stated that missions are easier and quicker without hacking.

    Cliche voice acting and characters.

Previous-gen consoles do not experience bullet effects on water.

Bugs have been reported that Uplay passes are not activating, but Ubisoft is working on this issue.

Bugs have been reported that mainly on the PS4, the loading screen reaches nearly 90% progress and freezes.

Those are the problems with the game.

I wanted to make sure I touched up on the main issues of the game, but there are good aspects to it such as the graphics on the next-gen are pretty good. The world around you is also extraordinary, and the campaign was well developed. Don't let the scare of the issues keep your from getting the game. If Ubisoft has enough intelligence, they will update the game and try to satisfy players.

The multiplayer is great from what I've heard. It's a fun open world with friends.

I believe I'm scoring the game fairly based off of its release. With that being said, I'm giving the game a 7/10.

To make some light of it, enjoy your experience in the city of Chicago

The problem is, the A.I. They are so stupid that their cars just crash to the walls or anywhere. Cops are dull as well, they love to shoot over than arrest and crash their cars to other cars or walls, they have no life. Car physics are lame, if you crash to a wall, the car gets little to no damage..

Today you actually notice how boring the first part was compared to the sequels. The story was good but it was told so tough and the side missions were almost all lame.
The worst part is the control of the cars which has never been improved.

This game is far from a 0 and from a 10. I picked it up for $5 because I really enjoyed playing Watch Dogs 2. Of course, I was expecting it to be worse, which it absolutely is. The driving is really poor, with nonsensical physics/collisions wherever vehicles are concerned. The NPC drivers are also awful and crawl along at 5 mph and stop for no reason all the time. This is a big deal for me personally as the driving experience has always been a big part of my immersion into the game world. With such unpleasant driving, I wasn't really interested in doing all the collection/side quests (unlike in Watch Dogs 2).

Speaking of side quests, it's a shame that Ubisoft opted to include only epeatable side missions that have nothing memorable about them. And for the most part, the rewards for side missions/collectables are mediocre and not worth the time.

Also, AIden Pearce is perhaps one of the worst protagonists in any video game I've played. His complete lack of personality and comically flat voice acting make it hard to root for him or care about the things that happened to him. Having to deal with this annoyingly dull player character was another reason I didn't bother sticking around for much of the activities beyond the campaign. On the other hand, the side/supporting characters are decent (although riddled with cliches) and better than those in WD2.

The story was pretty good at the beginning, but soon turned into an overly predictable revenge tale. It felt like it was trying too hard to be serious, especially given the game's lapses in quality.

In terms of the game's strengths, I thought that the hacking element was rather fun (mostly the campaign and the ctOS towers). It's not as powerful as in WD2, but killing enemies by blowing up electrical boxes through your cell phone never got old. I tried playing the game like I did in WD2 -- without killing, instead relying on hacking and stealth to complete the missions. I quickly found out this wasn't possible. The game regularly forces you to kill an inordinate number of enemies, which is fine, since the combat is fairly good (and certainly better than the clunky car chases). On this note, there is a much greater variety of weapons than in WD2.

Finally, the game world felt lively, detailed, and well crafted. If the driving weren't so insufferably bad, and the graphics were a bit better, I could easily see myself doing more of the side activities/collectables as I did in WD2.

Oh, and play it on realistic. Otherwise it's just way too easy.

The main campaign is wonderfully intricate and extremely entertaining, it is long as well and emotionally pulls you in.

Watch Dogs, brought to us by Ubisoft, is an open world adventure set in Chicago. After being delayed for what felt like forever, I finally got to experience all the hype. And it was well worth the wait.

Story: You play as Aiden Pierce, a hacker who is dealing with the tragic loss of his family and is seeking justice for those responsible. Your biggest weapon, the city itself. Chicago is connected to a network called ctOS and everything connected to that network can be used for your own desires. From traffic lights to individual cell phones, you are able to hack them for personal gain ($$$) or to escape any heat that might be after you.

Gameplay: Think of GTA and you have Watch Dogs. It's a large, open map of Chicago and you can practically go wherever you want on foot or in a vehicle. Obviously, the only difference is the ability to hack anything that's connected to the ctOS. Also, you do have a reputation to uphold. Harming civilians hurts your reputation and if you are perceived negatively, the higher chance that if you commit a crime, someone will call the police on you. Whereas if you have a positive reputation, the higher chance civilians will turn their cheek. During missions, you also have the choice of going in guns a blazing style, or more stealth based. Both are fun in their own right but, I found myself going Solid Snake on more people than blowing them to pieces, as it's more satisfying sneaking up on unsuspecting enemies and beating them down with a police baton. Plus, you get more experience for doing so. (Who doesn't like more experience?) Which brings me to the other part that's different than GTA, the skill tree. By performing missions and vigilante contracts, you gain experience and you can use skill points to allocate towards improving your hacking ability, your gun ability, driving ability, and item creation ability. I recommend focusing on hacking cause the more you are able to hack, the easier it will be to escape the police or enemies chasing you as you will have more access to hackable things.

Combat: If you do find yourself in a firefight, you have a decent choice of weapons to choose from ranging from pistols to sniper rifles and things in between. Weapons are graded by stars and obviously, the more stars the weapon has, the better it is. Each weapon handles differently than another in that class so, it's fun to use each one and find one that suits you the best. I found myself using mostly silenced weapons as I mentioned previously, I enjoyed completing missions and contracts with stealth over explosions. It's third person so, gunplay is just like GTA but you have the ability to "Focus", which reminds me of bullet time from Max Payne. Time slows down for as long as you have Focus, which allows you to aim easier while in the heat of battle, or to make sniping targets easier. You can also use it while driving to help navigate some tricky roads if on the run or to make sure you hack a steam pipe behind you at the perfect timing to remove some pesky cops.

Driving: I found driving in Watch Dogs to be a little difficult to master at the beginning. Cars each react differently and more realistically so, unlike GTA where you could be driving an Astro van and have it handle like a Porsche, that isn't the case in Watch Dogs. Sports cars handle a lot better than your typical commuter cars but at the same time, I still feel like each car is a little sluggish and hard to master, like I previously stated. But with practice and time driving each type of car, you'll get the hang of it and will be flying through downtown as if you were Jimmie Johnson.

Voice Acting/Dialogue: I thought the voice acting was well done with all of the characters. Each felt unique and I felt like I could connect with them when a stressful situation was occurring or just during regular chatter. I found the dialogue in general to be well done as well as each conversation sounded well scripted and I found myself laughing during some of the humorous talks between random civilians or after hacking someone's computer.

Summary: Overall, I give Watch Dogs a 9/10. A brilliant, deep experience with plenty of things to do from stopping crimes to racing and everything in between. I enjoyed the story, even though many didn't find it that special, and thought it was gripping and found myself immersed in giving those responsible or just common criminals the right foot of justice. Probably some downsides was the fact that graphically, it wasn't as good as E3 showed it but it was still impressive and I wish there would have been some customization involving weapons but other than that, I don't really have any other complaints. If you haven't experience Watch Dogs yet and want to enjoy the feeling of being able to control a whole city at your fingertips, do yourself a favor and go to your local game shop and pick this up. You won't be disappointed.

And it's not like the entire world is just the city. The middle of the map is the huge city of Chicago, the top left side of the map is nothing but out doors, trees, dirt bike tracks, and trails, along with boats to ride in and all that run stuff. If you go a little lower on the map, it's sort of a rural area with some nice big houses and kind of like a smaller city with theatres and different stores and stuff. And if you go to the south side of the map, you get the kinda gangster neighborhoods, and you also get the industrial complex type of place.

Another thing that's awesome about this city is you can basically get anywhere's you need to go on the entire map, by using a car or boat. Meaning that a body of water is never too far away

I love the variation and different settings in Watch Dogs. Half the fun I have in this game is just exploring the city.

Let me discus a pretty popular topic about this game, It's graphics. The graphics on PS4 and PC(I own Watch Dogs on both)are pretty good looking graphics. The graphics were downgraded a little, but the game still looks pretty impressive. The lighting and reflections at night are VERY impressive, and this game looks SO awesome when it's raining at night, and all the lights are reflecting off of the puddles of rain water. And thankfully, in Watch Dogs, it rains a LOT.

Another VERY impressive thing about this game is the water simulation. Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag's water looked SO amazing. So it's only natural that Watch Dogs would have body's of water that looked just as impressive, because Ubisoft makes both games. Simply put, I've never seen such realistic water in any game I've ever played, it looks THAT good. While your riding in a boat the waves react like they would if you were really in a boat. And if your driving in a boat through the city, you can literally see all the city lights reflected in the water.

The textures of the buildings in the city and the textures or rocks and mountains also look good and seem to have high poly counts. And during the day you'll frequently see the sun, with numerous light shafts shining through trees. The only part of Watch Dogs that I feel could have had better graphics is when it's day time, and the sun's light shafts aren't present, or the suns not shining. In those circumstanes the game seems to be missing something, it's not missing textures or shadows, it just needs a little more lighting during the day and more reflections.

Despite not looking absolutely perfect all the time, Watch Dogs is a CLEAR generational leap forward when comparing it to games like Grand Theft Auto V. GTAV is clearly a last gen looking game, and Watch Dogs is quite obviously a lot better looking titles.

I'm sure if Watch Dogs would have only been released on the PS4 and Xbox One, it would look even better than it does in it's current state.

Besides the graphics of the game, the gameplay is quite fun. I like idea of the cover shooting/hacking gameplay. It reminds me of those "over the top" perspective shooters in a way. And I love the way you can get the perspective of the cameras that you hack, and from that cameras perspective you can hack grenades in enemy's pockets, or blow up an electronic right next to an enemy to kill them. I think the gameplay in this game was really just a great idea by Ubisoft, I've never seen a shooter like this at all. I also love the stealth aspect of it, and I found it addictive to want to stealth your way through areas other than going guns blazing. But the gun play is good too. There's nothing really new about Watch Dog's gunplay, but it's solid nonetheless, and this game has a really good selection of interesting guns.

This game will quite literally keep you busy for well over 100 hours. I've been playing this game for over 100 hours already and haven't 100% the game yet. Of course if I really tried I could have completed it in around 100 hours probably. I just have so much fun messing around the this vast open world that it's taking me this long to complete it. But yes, there's a quite a LOT of content, but it is kind of repetitive, but it's also fun.

Then of course you have the "Digital Trips", which are in effect a game inside the Watch Dogs game. In one mini game, your a giant spider tank, and you basically just have fun destroying cops and scaling the building of Chicago. In another mini game, your sneaking around the city and shutting down generators one by one while trying to evade these robot looking things with spot lights for eyes constantly searching for you.

This game is easily an 8.5/10

The one element I liked at first was the characterization of NPCs, but it is entirely undeveloped into anything meaningful. Its just randomized flavor text that changes nothing, the same NPCs will have entirely different hobbies and jobs just randomized by the game. What at first seemed cool, lost its appeal an hour into the game.

Driving is ok, but incredibly underdeveloped again. This game is an even better advertisement for GTA 5 than the actual GTA 5 advertisements.

I love the genre and played all GTAs, and Saints Rows (also great but unlike this game has actually differentiated itself).

There are plenty of side missions and collectibles, but over time it seems they can be pretty redundant. They are great though for those who like to know every detail of what's happening in the Watch Dogs world. Overall, despite the hype that was produced throughout it's development, it is a must have and must play for any platform a user plays on. Expand

Although being fun to play, the game stays short in many things when comparing in to some other sandboxes (gunplay, plain characters, car collisions and driving...) and Aiden Pierce himself isn't at the height of a title like this.

Summarizing, the game has some ups (humor, gameplay, story, innovative online multiplayer) but its downs (graphic details, driving is tough, characters are charmless...) prevent it from reaching the initial concept it was delivered. However, it's remarkable that Watch Dogs is easily the best AAA title available for PS4 and a recommendable buy

+ Digital Trips are awesome, best part of the game in my opinion
+ Hacking and tailing people online is fun to a certain extent

    - Driving can be frustrating, unrealistic
    - Game gets very repetitive
    - Online racing is unplayable
    - Online free roam is boring, nothing to do with your friends
    - Hacking is boring and repetitive

All in all a good game but for all the hype that followed it, this game did not deliver. There is a large disconnect between the game and the user which makes the game feel fake (not sure how else to really explain it) which is not good for a game trying to have a realistic feel to it.

The game isn't revolutionary as Ubisoft promised us, but it still a great game. The dissapointing came from the false marketing which showed amazing graphics and a live and bright Chicago. Actually, the game just have fine graphics and a superficial chicago. The point of this game is the multiplayer..

Tons of side missions and things to find. I would still say GTA V has the best open world city if that helps anyone see where my point of view lies. Some of the music is good, i like how simple it is to change songs or turn music off. I wish I could play my own mp3s but that's neither here nor there.

You can go stealth or full out warfare or a mix and match successfully. Lots of guns to play with and the gadgets are great if you remember to use them. I didn't utilize the slow motion as much as I should've but it's a cool feature. Good, solid game.

The first thing I noticed when I launched WD was that cars does not behave like cars, they behave like horses, and I thought "Hey.. this just a reskin of Assassins Creed", So turn a second before you think you do or you're in for a crash; or twenty, every time you're going somewhere and don't forget about the otherworldly slides your car does after any turn. As your first observation that isn't really helpful when you want to enjoy a free roaming game.

It also has the same problem as AC with "rocks" and "other rocks that look exaclty the same as the first type of rock". Some rocks are fine to just run over, while some act as an invisible wall even though any human with legs could run over them in real life, and you can't get out of water unless there's something like a ladder or a ramp to get you out of it. At one point there was tires hung up on welding steel for boat hull protection at a dock where I had to go to hack a camera. Clearly an easy way up for any human in the world with arms, but not Aiden Pearce. So I had to swim to another dock to get a boat and THEN hack my way in from the deck of the boat, beacuse invisible walls prevented any attempts to walk onto the dock.

But enough of that, let us look at the game as a whole.

    Story:
...As the story goes on it gets better, I feel immersed, it's kinda funny and has some stellar dialogue. It has a lot of plot twists so it mixes things up. Maybe a bit too many twists but I can't complain really. But don't sit idle in the meny for to long because SPOILERS AHOY! stay too long and the coolest parts of ACT I is spoiled right before your eyes. (why would you do this, ubisoft?!!)

    PROGRESSION
As a comparison to AC4's progression; they did completely different now. If you do side missions and fluff in AC4 you get more powerful than the enemies in the Main Story Missions, but in WD they scale with you every step of the way. When I was in the early stages of ACT 2 I went up against componds of ONLY elite soldiers. ELITES. Are you **** kidding me? I can agree that they should be a bit harder when I have almost every weapon, vehicle, item, and skill unlocked, BUT it's still ACT 2 for **** sake. Someone who just likes exploring and is a casual/average gamer have no chance at that point.

    AI
The AI is decent but pretty **** wierd at times. People can see you through walls at times, which can be overlooked except for the fact that they also can shoot you through the wall. THE **** It isn't that bad really but can be frustrating when trying to be stealthy.

Convoys also appear a bit overhuman because they crash into civilian cars frequently but the second you nudge them a little they instantly scream "IT'S HIM" and try to kill you even though they should have no clue who the **** is driving that car. At one point I drove like a normal civilian in the opposite direction to get a better point of approach, and the car at the front of the convoy crammed between me and another car to get past a stop and as he nudged me on the side he instantly knew it was me in that car; making the convoy panic. WHAT. He ran into me for **** sake. I didn't do **** to show I was on the aggresion or anything.

Another point on how AI driving is how they say over the radio "I'm gonna ram him", and then never even try to ram me. I've never been rammed. They grace me a little on the side, sometimes trying to push me to the curb but thats it. Also, when I slow down, or they slow me down, they all stop and jump out of their cars even though I have made no intention of stopping. At least pin me down before abandoning your vehicles.

To test the spawning I ran up a tower like structure with one way in and out, just trying to have some fun shooting cars with The Destroyer (Sniper that can one-shot vehicles). The police was after me pretty soon and i just kept shooting their cars but they were too many and I didn't want to hurt my reputation too badly. They rushed me so I tried to make my escape upwards the structure where it should be clear because there's only one way up, and that's when I saw that the engine had spawned a couple cops behind me and I got shot to death.

The online play is what really madeit for me. Someone could be watching you at any time but there are ways to detect it. The online play gets melded into regular gameplay in a very innovative fashion that could alllmost be considered MMORPG-like. The hide-and-go-seek hacker mode and the spying modes have led to the most fun online gaming experiences I have had in years. Have you ever imagined playing a game where you can be Jason Bourne and the CIA at the same time, while adding a touch of Batman as well? Look no further. This game combines a beautiful and detailed world with very interesting dark themes on privacy and crime. Its gameplay is both varied and fun, combining solid stealth mechanics from games likes Splinter Cell with spectacular open world action from a game like GTA.

I think that some people’s negative reaction to his game can be explained by unrealistically high expectations. Some people may have expected that this game unlocks the full graphical potential of next-gen consoles. This is not the case, since it is still a cross-generation game. However, the game still looks very good (I played it on PS4) and runs very smooth. Some people may also have expected this game to bring something completely new on terms of gameplay. However, its innovation lies more in bringing together many things that worked well in other games, while adding some smaller new things like the hacking. For me, this made the gameplay feel both fresh and solid. Lastly, some people want to compare this game to GTA. The game may fall slightly short of the astonishing GTA 5 in some aspects, but this doesn’t matter when the experience is still great. Also, Watch Dogs intentionally differentiates itself from GTA in so many ways that a direct comparison cannot always be made.

A majority of this is drawn from the fact that I was in Chicago two weeks before the game launched, and driving around the very accurate recreation of the Windy City was a blast! Willis Tower? Check. The Bean? Sort of check. Most of the landmark locations that tourists, or natives, of Chicago would look for are in game. Take note though, some of these locations have been changed to appear differently from their real life counterparts, the bean for example appears to be more of a curved Cheerio. Nonetheless, it's all for the fun of the game.
What about the meaningful things? The reasons most people buy video games at least. The story is actually fairly engaging, and the characters are decently done. I found myself disliking certain characters very much (as was intended) and couldn't wait to get the chance to "off" them. The main character, who is not necessarily a protagonist, was interesting, but I not too extremely developed. All you can grasp is he is an overly protective uncle with violent tendencies and dark connections.
Once you complete the story, there are a few select activities to do around the city, but most dry up and become stale, leaving little reason to play beyond the main story, aside from the entertaining free roam multiplayer where there are laughs abound. The gun play and driving are solid and all around fun. The innovative use of hacking made roaming around more enjoyable than many games. I found myself constantly raising bridges and trying to jump sports cars onto the train tracks. Little fun things such as this are what provide the true endgame fun. Ultimately, this game is well worth the $60, even if it is not the GOTY is was presented as being, it is still well enough entertaining and full of solid gameplay.

Its no secret that there was an astounding amount of hype surrounding this game, and as a result of this it seemed that it was destined to be poked at with the sticks of many gamers, all disappointed that it couldn't deliver what was supposed to be a genre defining experience. Perhaps these expectations were a little unfair however, as Watch_Dogs is by no means a bad game, but a good game that's trapped in the unforgiving minds of the masses, to be forever known as "The game that could, but didn't."

When I booted up my PS4, and excitedly inserted the game disc, I came to the realisation that in order to enjoy this game to the fullest extent, I'd have to completely put aside the hype, disappointment, and subsequent negativity surrounding the title, and play it as though I was delving head first into something I knew nothing about, aside from the basics. I'm glad I did.

I was instantly aware that, even though the graphics weren't what was originally promised, they were some of the best I had seen so far in my gaming life. While they weren't jaw dropping, certain things, like Aidens jacket billowing in the breeze, made me realise, perhaps for the first time, that we can all be excited about what this console generation can do in the future. The fully realised world of Chicago was rich full of things to do, whether it be sticking to the campaign, getting lost among the games many side missions, or simply whipping out your, (seemingly forever charged) smartphone, and getting a small insight as to how the everyday citizens of this virtual Chicago choose to live their lives. I was never bored during this venture, and the overall quantity of tasks to complete is something that I think shouldn't be overlooked, and while certain tasks may start to become repetitive after awhile, the level of fun these tasks provide far outweighs the feeling of frustration one may acquire by the repetitive nature.

The story is a typical, yet heartwarming tale of a man seeking forgiveness, from whom is not always clear, and the constant desire to blame Aiden for all of his misfortune is often outweighed by the sense of empathy you feel toward him as the story unfolds. The voice acting, for the most part, is right on point, never failing to draw in the player, making the experience all the more powerful and believable, leaving a lasting impression long after the games conclusion. While Aidens voice in particular was grainy and slightly overdone in todays entertainment, it worked for the premise and what Ubisoft was trying to deliver.

Unfortunately, there were some aspects to Watch_Dogs that weren't executed quite as well as others, like the driving. At first the driving was a little hard to grasp, and with games such as GTA V dominating the landscape, poor driving mechanics in open world games are no longer out of the ordinary, and when first jumping behind the wheel in Watch_Dogs, it can be rather annoying to have to adapt to the sub-par level of driving that's available when GTA V has set the bar so high. Over time I found I got the hang of it, but it still never felt as smooth and satisfying as it did with Rockstars mega-hit.

The inability to shoot while driving was also a little frustrating, I lost count just how many times I was flying down the highway, fast approaching my enemies car with the objective to "take them down," when I pushed R1 with the expectation to unleash a load of bullets, like in so many other games of its kind, only to be annoyingly reminded that this command was futile. Its not all bad, however, as without the ability to shoot through the windows, it forces you to take advantage of Watch_Dogs signature move; Hacking. From traffic lights to steam pipes, the objects you can hack in the game are aplenty, all with a unique result that is sure to leave a satisfying after taste as you take down your foes.

Hacking is not just for these instances, it has a hand in every aspect of the game, almost anything electronic can be hacked, including electronic billboards that deliver a random message each time they're hacked, most of which are easter eggs referencing all forms of entertainment from other games, to viral videos on YouTube. I spent a lot of time hacking these billboards, a smile planted on my face as I appreciated the developers dedication and senses of humour.

    FINAL SAY;
While it might not go down as "genre defining," Watch_Dogs is a solid entry into the next-gen landscape, especially when "big" games are few and far between at this stage of its life-cycle. Full of content, and with a story that gets deeper and more exciting the further you play, its bound to demand the attention of most who play it, and to those who play expecting nothing more than a fun time with a good game, its sure to have you as excited about the inevitable sequel as I was after the final credits rolled

In general the game is pretty interesting, although victimised by the Ubisoft's marketing team hype. It doesn't feel good considering how superior Aiden Pearce seems to feel about his motives and actions in the main story.

Also the whole side-mission model is kind of distracting and I felt like that game cannot really decide what should be done, e.g. you unlock some critical abilities with side-missions (e.g. do 10 of one type) which isn't very clear in the game on the start. Later these abilities are useless, so the balance between main story and side missions is broken.

Multiplayer experience varies greatly — I experienced awesome hacking sessions in the middle of Chicago, but quite often got "dumped" in the middle of nowhere, no car or any other mean of transport available = lost points. Also one thing that bugs me off is that experienced players keep reseting their notoriety points and vulture on fresh gamers, making the experience unbearable. Invasions are also too early in the game, so the best way is to disable them, do first few acts and then enable invasions again to keep the game balanced.

In general the game is a fun way to spend time, graphics (even watered-down) are nice and Chicago is a lively, wonderful city to roll with your shenanigans :-) It can get only better

Multiplayer is an amazing trip in itself as well and how seamlessly you can go from single player to Multiplayer is amazing. I believe a lot of people want to compare this to Grand Theft Auto which is ridiculous, yes, they are similar in nature but when it comes down to it they are entirely different. This game is a must play, has great weapons, missions and the hacking system is pretty darn fun especially when used to disarm police or enemy pursuers. Well worth the money to buy this game! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Technology advances day by day. New things are invented and old things are improved. Cars are capable of parking themselves and the phones we use today are practically mini computers. Imagine being a top hacker, capable of hacking bank accounts within seconds, controlling stoplights and bridges, and causing blackouts on an entire city block. Movies can give us this experience but they’re unable to give us a truly immersive experience. Watch dogs grants you this option giving you all the power by putting you in the shoes of a hacker named Aiden Pierce in a not too distant future in the city of Chicago.
Aiden Pierce is a hacker turned vigilante after he abruptly quits during one of his hacking jobs and runs into another rival hacker that has it out for him. They find out about Aiden and go after his family. Someone close to him is killed in an orchestrated accident, fueling Aiden on his revenge filled quest. You can move through the city of Chicago by foot, car, truck, or motorcycle. You can also wield weapons such as assault rifles, shotguns, handguns and grenades, but your greatest and most unique weapon is your cellphone. Your cellphone, which resembles the smart phones of today, is the source of all your hacking abilities. Practically anything that seems to run on an electrical power source is vulnerable to your hacking abilities. You can cause blackouts, trigger stoplights, traffic barriers, and even bridges while you’re escaping from cops or a rival hacker. You can also order vehicles to be dropped off close by you and access a map of the city, but of course, not every ability is available to you at the start. Watch dogs gives you a upgrade system which is grouped by hacking, combat, driving, and handmade abilities. Upgrade your hacking abilities and you can unlock any car on the street, activate traffic barriers and bridges, and upgrade your battery so you’re not running out of power when you really need to activate that last bridge to escape the cops. Upgrade your driving abilities and your cars can take more damage, you can slow down time to squeeze through a tight area of traffic, or activate an EMP blast that disables police helicopters. Upgrade your combat abilities and you can slow down time to take out a group of enemies quickly, reload and change weapons faster, and become a true marksman. Finally upgrade your handmade abilities and you can create hand grenades, police scan jammers, and an EMP blast that causes a blackout.
Watch dogs gives you two options when approaching some of the different objectives during a main story or side mission. You can choose to go in guns blazing or use your phone to go stealth. I typically chose the stealth option. There was nothing more satisfying than being able to hack the cameras and tactically survey the area, planning out your moves and being able to take out enemies one by one without firing a single shot. You even had the ability to set traps and take out large groups of people with a well-timed hack on an electrical box that explodes with the push of a button. There was also a sense of satisfaction in charging in with an assault rifle and using your upgraded combat skills, such as the focus skill, which slowed down time and let you pick off enemies one by one before they even got a chance to fire a shot. Either way you want to handle the situation, or even use both options, it’s up to the player. However, you will occasionally run into situations where stealth is absolutely necessary which can be frustrating at times.
The game looks beautiful. I’ve never been to Chicago personally but have no difficulty imagining the Chicago in game could very well be our real world Chicago in the future. The city is huge and the developers used the Playstation 4’s powerful potential to the best of their abilities. The city feels alive as well. People react to your actions; pull out a gun and people scream and panic and some even call 911. Drive around and you see people use blinkers and react to stoplights. The city also has much more to do besides the main story. With side missions such as disbanding city gangs, delivering stolen cars to different investors, and even just helping civilians from petty thefts, the game gives you more and more reasons to come back and play even after you’re all said and done with the main story.
Watch Dogs was a truly enjoyable experience. Although everyone says it was a very “overhyped” game, and I agree, it was just the developers showing their pride in a product they worked so hard to produce. The game overall is great. The graphics are beautiful, bringing a city to life. The gameplay is fun and innovative, and the story is a solid one that follows the game and pushes you to play through. And with all the side missions to play through and future downloadable content on the way, it’s a game you’ll be sure to come back to and continue to enjoy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have it for ps4 and just beat it. its real score is a 78 out of 100 and not 7 out of 10 from me.This game is quite fun and more strategy than over the top destruction. It has a good story, but the downside to it is there isn't enough dialogue and development between Pierce and all of the other characters (face to face interaction) to gain a real sense of attachment to them. They needed more cut-scenes for the main story to develop the interaction between Pierce and the rest. Also the side quests, although entertaining, need some increased development and actual cut-scenes . The killer of all those people that left dead body's in bags for me to find ended up just being like any other crime prevention side quest. In other words, the plot in both the main and side stories needed to bring more to the game. The side stories especially needed more pow, They were very anti-climatic . Multiplayer is fun, but needs to be stabilized a bit for the 3-8 matches and racing. Too many complaints about this game, but I don't have any glitches going on in my game whatsoever aside from the 3-8 multiplayer. Graphics are nice, but they downscaled probably because it was originally a lot more massive a file like shadow fall. Anyways, good game, but underdeveloped content. Not for everyones enjoyment. I don't judge a game based on some controversy over a trailer shown at e3; when I see e3 stuff I enjoy it for what it is but expecting it always to be the end product is naive. I thoroughly have enjoyed my time with this game and as someone who prefers PC it runs and looks very good on the console (ps4).

The city is amazingly detailed and the scale is massive; though some places made me wonder why they were so fleshed out when there was no "content" or gameplay related to that area but this may get used in the expansion with T-Bone. Graphically for a console game it is very good and even though only 30fps with some slow downs during chaos it doesn't feel gimped like some sub 60fps games do which I am very fussy about.

Game play is fun, the shooting feels good and the guns have a nice variety. Though I wish you did not carry them all on you all the time which can make the weapon wheel get very messy when trying to quickly swap to a preferred weapon. The driving at first felt odd to me and I thought I was going to hate driving around in this game; luckily I gave it more time and practice and actually love flawing it around the city now and getting sideways around sharp corners.

Story is subjective and I think it really depends on the person whether you will like Aiden and his mission throughout the game. Personally I loved it and I think the issue is many feel he is boring or dull; what I got from the story was he wasn't always this way he has become consumed by revenge to the point he is hollow and only cares about achieving his goal even at the cost of alienating himself from his remaining loved ones and friends. His comrades and enemies are interesting but I wish they were fleshed out a bit more.

Over all this game is not perfect but far from the outrageous failure many claim it to be. I don't get caught up in hype nor jump on journalistic hate bandwagons; it's best to judge something for yourself based on loading the game up and playing. Not based on e3 footage from the past or articles about settings being hidden. Sure those things may be bad practice but that doesn't mean the game that a whole team of people spent years creating isn't fun and enjoyable.

Watch Dogs unfortunately suffers from hype...
It promised amazing graphics and a deep open world, this is never achieved, but the 18 hour campaign featured here is one of the best open world campaigns I’ve played in a while..
Watch Dogs is a 3r5d person open world shooter game with a dash of puzzle…
You play as Aiden Pierce trying to get to the bottom of his Nieces murder…
The story telling in Watch Dogs is great… Especially when your focus changes from your niece to someone else that I won’t mention to prevent spoilers, but I feel like the transition was perfect due to that connection… it makes you care... it keeps you pushing forward… but at the same time you’re still going after everyone involved in the initial hit…
And again the writing and introduction to each character in the story is so great that you’ll either really love or really hate someone… you feel pierces emotion personally which creates a great deal of immersion in this story..
To get information on locations you have to hack into buildings and severs…
And there’s freedom in the way you can approach this…
Watch Dogs works great as a 3rd person shooter with an intuitive cover system… an easy to access weapons wheel, tons of weapon variety, a great amount of ammo and crafting parts for bombs… a great stealth system to silently take enemies down or take them out with a silenced pistol…
Or you can hack cameras and explosives…
I personally had the most fun jumping from camera to camera, waiting for opportunities to explode fuse boxes, trigger alarms for a takedown set up… activating the grenades inside of enemy pockets…
Many times during the story I didn’t have to fire a single bullet to get everything I came for..
I hopped from camera to camera hacked into the system and left…
Hacking here is very simple and comes down to a pipe type puzzle of feeding a blue line into other pieces and unlocking them. And these sections are the only mandatory hacking sections as again you can just play as a third person shooter if you’d like…
Outside of the 18 hour campaign though is the open world of Chicago and unfortunately the open world is the weakest aspect in the entire game…
Think of this more as a hub world to extend play time by spreading out mission locations, because ubisoft took 0 note in crafting this open world as it has issues in its open world I haven’t ran into since the PlayStation 2….
Cars will disappear from where you left them if you run into a building to start a mission and come back out…
During chases you have to ram cars to stop them or hack the world around you... which is actually a great deal of fun during intense chases, to blow up streets, raise bridges and road blocks while youre chasing or being chased by the police…
But you cant shoot out of your window to shoot out tires despite enemies being able to shoot while driving…
Another annoyance with these chase missions is that if you do get the person youre chasing stuck, you cant just pull them out of the vehicle theyre in… the only way to continue is shoot them through the window or get back into your car and ram them until they get out…
This isn’t too annoying in story, but is highly annoying in online play when you have a random player trying to hack you…
You can turn this feature off, but anyone at any time can enter your world and you can do the same entering there’s for rep, or co-op and competitive fun like races…
But again these are real people... not ai controlled enemies, so trying to get a head shot on someone in a vehicles is much harder to do in this instance…
And then theres hacking npcs to profile them…. To stop crimes from happening before they happen... I personally didn’t enjoy this aspect at all, I found it to be shallow filler and had no interest in doing random chases as again the campaign created such a great deal of urgency that it created tunnel vision for me…
While Wacth_Dogs didn’t deliver the ground breaking experience it promised.. If you can look past those promises for what it actually is, it’s a great game with a great story.
    I give Watch_Dogs
    an 8.5/10

So i boot up the game. After getting like, three reminders to sign into Uplay (which i refuse to get), i get the game started. The intro is solid and gives us a nice introduction to our main character. So then we get to the actual open world "meat", the reason everyone was so excited for the game. The hacking. I had so much fun in the game for my first few hours, looking into people's phones, stealing their money, interrupting traffic. Then after 3 days of playing the game, total of about 15 hours, i decide to actually play the game.

I hate pretty much every aspect of the game except the hacking. But even the hacking got mundane. The story was practically nonexistent. The characters weren't interesting, and Aiden was not fun to play as at all. The missions offered a nice variety, but it was still not enough to make me care to finish it. The side missions were very repetitive, no matter what the topic, and i couldn't finish each string of missions either. The gameplay was very monotonous overall. I did have some fun with the minigames around town, such as the chess challenges and drinking challenges.

Ok, i have to quickly get through all these other nitpicks and such pretty quickly. The music on the radio was not good at all. the driving just didn't feel right somehow. The overworld felt more lifeless and boring than, say, GTA. The upgrades and rewards for beating side missions were pretty useless. The graphics look pretty nice through, and this game does feel like it's next gen.

I do not like watchdogs. it's honestly not ALL that bad, but it's just so OK i can't even comment on it. 5/10

I'm one of those people who stayed under a rock just to avoid all the hype the game was getting, so don't expect me complaining about how graphics are downgraded or how Ubisoft was lying straight to consumers faces.

    Gameplay:
Car physics and handling is terrible, feels like something from the PS2 era. Even the terrible handling of True Crime felt more realistic or fun for that matter. Same goes for weapon handling, AI is as bad as you can expect, they'll be either staying in one place and show themselves for a few seconds just to shoot and then hide again in the same place, or run towards you. It's already a clumsy game, yet they managed to screw the melee system that you can knock someone only if you're playing a stealth mission.

The location itself is alright, but there are some awkward moments. Take for example civilian cars, you will never see in a car anyone else besides the driver(except for police and henchmen in the story missions). I find that small detail very annoying since that's something that was not an issue since GTA3 which came out in 2001. If you visit any store more than once you will quickly notice that the visitors do the same thing every time you enter. So most of the stuff is copy/pasted and scripted, hence the world feels more lifeless than it should.

The hacking part can be in some respects fun, but it can be limiting. For example: wouldn't it be fun to crush your card with a container? According to the game, nope. If you put any vehicle under, I guess then your hacking system get some kind of guilt or something, it won't do anything. You want the train to hit the car or Aiden because he's a lifeless tool? I guess you can't because the train has feelings now, but explosions are ok.

Missions/Campaign: Yet another terrible mess. The only positive thing I can say is the hacking part, but even that part gets annoying when you see that's the only thing they have to show outside all the generic open word stuff. Those hacking puzzles and finding the targets through the camera overstay their welcome, just like tank missions in Arkham Knight. The plot is poorly executed, main characters are boring, I don't feel any sympathy for characters that have fewer emotions than my neighbors' old cat.

If there is one thing most developers have learning for the past 10 years is that tailing missions are boring, so you have to ask why didn't these developers get the memo. Chase missions would have been fun if the car handling/physics weren't so stiff. And every time you're a bit behind you gets warning that you're losing the target and it's annoying because of the counter stopwatch which refreshes to the start quite a lot. A good example of how broking the stealth/tailing target is the mission where you're following Iraq's cousin, you will fail even though you can see him right across the walking path. A lot of times I failed missions because I didn't know what to do, and they happen to have the worst possible checkpoints as if developers were trolling just for the fun.

A lot of times, it's much easier just to kill everything that moves, rather than avoid or use hacking gadgets for a stealthier approach. As a vigilante, you'll be killing more often policemen than escaping them, because it's just less annoying.

So yeah, mission design is not great.

    Sound/Music:
The music playlist, outside of a few songs nothing else either good or worth listening. It's the type of music artists put on albums as a filler. Whoever was choosing those songs, your hipster music is terrible.

If I have not mentioned gun or vehicle sound, well it mediocre, just like the rest of the game. If you're reading this far, this shouldn't be surprising.

Conclusion: The game is mediocre at best. Some will find it appealing, because of the hacking features, but in my case, it quickly wore off. I would recommend to try it out only if you have nothing else to play, which is very unlikely.

Sometimes a story can save a game and pull me in. A generic tale of revenge wasn't really a show stopper. After a combined total of several hours gameplay I was kind of bored with this one. The concept behind the game (the fact that you can hack almost everything in the city) is
    really well thought

The bad: There is some inconsistency in the graphics quality. Some textures are really well made while others are just ugly (for example, Aiden's clothes are really well presented but the trees, the furniture inside some houses don't seem like quality graphics) I observed that during night time in the game, graphics seem to look better than during day.

The driving mechanics can be odd but we get used to them.

Average: The story is better than a lot of similar games but the plot is complicated.

Overall, I think this game is good and the reality is that I had a lot of fun playing it. However, the below than average graphics are impacting the immersion and IMO make this game a 7/10 rather than a 8/10 like some other AAA games I played before

With a unique thriller and grimy aesthetic, Watch Dogs looks interesting. With its unique gameplay that mixes hacking, gunplay, stealth, multiplayer all while giving players tons of choice when approaching missions makes the game interesting. While the story could have used another some more tweaks, Watch Dogs is a great open world action game who's mechanics make GTA V look simplistic.

Another bug I had experienced was that the crosshair disappeared, and it wouldn't come back. I had to dig through the files of the game, delete a file for settings, and reopen the game just to get a stupid crosshair back.
The game files corrupt frequently, so you might just open the game back up and see that your skill tree has been reset and all of your money is gone, but you're still in the point of the story that you are at. The list of bugs just goes on and on.
There was even an option for ray tracing, but they decided to deactivate it for what ever reason.
Now, I received this game for free on a sale on Epic Games, but if I had bought it with actual money, I would've gotten every chance to refund it. Definitely not worth $30 considering how many bugs there are. Please do not buy unless it is on a 70% sale or something like that. I've probably spent more time trying to fix the bugs than actually playing the game.
