This game is far not so bad as you can read about it. I play on PS4 and most of haters, as I see, came from PC. They blame it for: a) bugs; b) not E3 graphics; с) not GTA V; d) high price. I leave PC gamers with their pain. As PS4 gamer I can assert that there is no bugs, graphics is nice and price is standard. Concerning the GTA V comparison I can say that the open world of Watch Dogs seems to me more alive since you can know everything about passers-by, listen their phone talks, and so on. I feel myself deeply involved in the life on screen and it is amazing feeling. The story is not obsessive, and you can play it at your own pace. Gameplay is rather various and you can choose more action or more puzzles. No doubt this game worth 8 points from professional critics. But I give it 10 to balance all that unfair hate. Expand

I gave this game a 10, but now it's a 7 for me. I was planning on getting a platinum in this game, but a glitch had happened. I beat the main story, and it's really fun, but that glitch messed everything up. I lost my money, skill points, etc, but overall the game is enjoyable. I just wish the glitch didn't happen because I spent a lot of time on it.

Firstly, the whole hacking thing is entirely too simplified and gimmicky. It's basically just "press a button to do this". Of course everything is kind of set up for you, so it feels way too easy and undeserved.

The slingshot camera is extremely annoying while driving, especially in chases. Car chases are boring and feel so fake as the chase cars follow you like they have super AI robots behind the wheel and not humans. You can't lose anyone by simply out driving them, it has to be by using the hack gimmick (to change traffic lights, alter a bridge, etc).

You're constantly barraged by things on the HUD cluttering up the screen - a common practice with Ubisoft. You couldn't escape text, pop ups and markers in Far Cry 3 or Assassins Creed IV, and you certainly can not in Watch_Dogs.

The driving is terrible. Cars just float and "slide" everywhere, no sense of traction whatsoever. You can bash through pretty much everything and it vehicles (even motorcycles) can take a monstrous amount of damage. That in a sense, really takes away from the chases and the sense of danger when involved in such things. I've had jumps on bikes where I've been in mid air, smashed into a wall, landed and was fine. Just drove right off. This is something I'd expect in Just Cause 2, not a game trying to emulate GTA, which is known for it's awesome car physics.

The story is just all over the place. They give you a morality bar, yet you're constantly on missions where you're killing these guys and those guys. You can go around stealing out of peoples bank accounts, spying on people. It just doesn't make sense, and I'm not really sure how it fits into the game. You're a guy out for revenge, morality is kind of out the window, IMO.

The side missions are kind of repetitive. So far it's been "stop this guy with this convoy", or little mini games. Some of the little city games are kind of fun, like the chess game and the ball-under-the-cup as time killers.

Overall, I think it tried to do way too much. I can see the similarities between this and AC4: Black Flag. It feels like the concept was so wide ranging, they had so many ideas they wanted to throw in. They did, and as a whole, everything turned out to be mediocre at best. Nothing is really 'great'. Not one part of the game really shines out and makes someone say "wow, that is awesome!". Instead, you have a lot of really cool ideas, thrown together into one convoluted game with so many moving parts and different story lines that it kind of makes you disinterested in everything that is going on because it's so overly complicated.

The game had potential. But boring. I didn't get attached to the game. I just wanted to finish it. Even the side activities where boring and repetitive. The world isn't big. And Chicago wasn't interesting at all. The story wasn't interesting as well. Aiden character acting was very bad. There was no need to put this batman voice twist to character. Other NPC characters were more interesting (Clara, T-Bone & Jordi)
The game has too many bugs and glitches. Also online multiplayer is bad. Not interesting at all. And PvP invasion. You play it couple of times and you get bored of it.
Just very disappointed. This 6 for me.

I played the game/spent most of it online (only redeeming thing, but even this is plagued and I mean **** PLAGUED with unfair vehicles and bugs that create a super unrealistic, and non-fun multiplayer. An example of this is the motorcycles that literally go faster than every single vehicle, can go places no other vehicle can go & to finish it off, you can literally drive full speed into a wall and not fall off. What I mean is it's extremely unfair/hard to get thrown from a motorcycle which creates easy wins for game modes like **crack the file**

In all I spent 5 days playing the game before returning it for $35 at gamestop (and I'm happy I did). I reached the top %1 on ALL OF MULTIPLAYER (apparently people suck at it/or give up when they lose (in which you literally go down in money/exp when you do).

In all the game has A LOT OF POTENTIAL! But it literally never achieves any of it. IT falls flat on its face, which is a huge disappointment for how great it could of been.

Perhaps in a couple weeks Multiplayer may be better, but for right now it's completely broken and plagued with bugs.

Performance: Smooth until you drive anything (its the same on pc, so its probably that the engine wasn't built for speed)

Graphics: Not great, wasn't expecting it to beat second son tho, but considering how it looks, its hard to see why it couldn't be 1080p, especial when other, better looking games are on the PS4.

Overall. Its a little over hyped and under-polished. It seems rushed, but not broken and playes like Assassins Creed or Far Cry, so like any other Ubisoft game. A little disappointing that it IS NOT A NEXT GEN EXPERIENCE like ubisoft promised (Although its on PS3, so it cannot be next gen by default). I regret not saving $20 and getting it on PS3 as the graphics are similar and gameplay is identical, or even rather just replaying GTAV and saving some cash.

Its not amazing, it looks mediocre unless its a rainy night and the story can be boring. But a tleast its long and not broken.

I think it was smart for Ubisoft to delay this game and release it during a very dry period on the next gen platforms because if this game were to come out along side other triple a titles I don't think many people would even bother finishing it.
This is not a bad game game, but it is also did not live up to all the hype it received.

This is not a bad game game, but it is also did not live up to all the hype it received.
The story was mediocre with a very obvious plot twist that takes place.
The game also tries making you feel sorry for the main character however his behaviour does not help with this.
He literally slaughters more people than any of the villains in this game and also manipulates people into doing his work putting their lives at risk, and all of this isn't for him to gain anything, it is all to avenge someones death.
This also put his sister at risk which caused him to kill even more people in order to save her, why is her life more important than the people he kills? There is also a mission where he needs to take on someones identity but he is forced to kill that person first, during this mission him and his accomplice are upset and uneasy about the fact that he has to kill someone even though he would have already killed a good number of people before this mission.
He also steals cars, and hacks bank accounts in his free time and we are meant to feel sorry for this guy?
The gameplay was not too great either, a lot of the time you have to wait for a button command to appear on the screen before performing an action. For example, simply being next to a car and pressing triangle will not let you enter the car, you need to position yourself next to the door and wait for the command to come up, this gets annoying when you’re being chased by the police and you have to quickly switch between vehicles.
There is also a problem the cover system has because the only way to get out of cover is to push back on the left stick and wait for him to to stop crouching leaving yourself exposed. Press circle will make him vault over the cover and pressing cross will make him run to the nearest cover, doing this over and over will make him run between 2 covers repeatedly. This will get annoying if someone runs up behind you when you’re behind cover and you need to sprint somewhere else.
The game itself was decent and the hacking elements adds a unique experience which do make game stand out so it has potential to improve.
The game also sets itself up for a sequel which we will probably see in the next 2 years, hopefully they can improve on the flaws this game had and make that game turn out great.

The aiming is precise and the freerunning is also enjoyable even if you play with keyboard and mouse. The driving, however, is not even close to finished. The cars don't behave like cars but more like bumper cars. You also cannot shoot while driving which leaves you only the hacking as defense while driving.
The hacking is also one critical point. You can use the hacking feature, but don't have to. In fact, besides of some puzzles, it is much easier to shoot your way with a silenced weapon, than to hack your way through the levels.
You also gain Exp during missions which gives you the option to skill more unnecessary hacking abilities. Funny, how the main theme of the game can be so obsolete.
As obsolete as the hacking is also the reputation system. If you rescue people from crimes you gain reputation which as insignificant effects on your game. If you have a bad reputation, people will call the cops when they recognize you, if you have a good reputation nothing happens.

    The Missions:

The missions are always the same: follow someone, hack into a system, jump from camera to camera with your hacker abilities and unlock a door. Then shoot everybody and escapy by car. The last part is always the scariest, because the driving is really bad.

There are several side missions which consist of stopping people from reaching a certain destination, killing people, rescue people, scare people and shoot up gang hideouts.
Also existent: mini games and god knows how many collectibles.
Funny: the most fun part of the side missions and mini games are chess puzzles.

    The story:

Awful. Just awful. Predictable and boring. After the first Act everyone with an average IQ knows how the story will end eventually. Ubisoft has not learned anything about narratives in the last years. It takes the topic of hacking and global connection way too serious.

    Overall:

Much potential, wasted for the sake of making fast cash. It really has potential and I hope they will learn from this mistake named Watch Dogs and correct it in Watch Dogs 2. Currently it's not match for GTA V and can compare itself maybe to the Saints Row series.

There is still a long way to go.

First of all, I hope I'm not the only one tired of hearing how this game is a GTA V clone. It isn't... unless you're someone who considers the fact that it's open-world and features humans as the main characters enough to make a game a "clone", in which case you shouldn't be writing reviews at all.

I will admit that Watch Dogs falls short in many areas where GTA V delivered (radio stations, car selection, character customization, etc), but that's all I'll say on the comparison.

Yes, the graphics are very mediocre for next-gen. However, as I think many of us can agree, it takes more than graphical superiority to make a great game. It helps, of course, but the beauty of Second Son couldn't overshadow the mediocre plot and the hollow shell of a city (much as it was baffling-ly detailed) (and don't get me wrong, it was worth playing and an absolute blast). Being great requires a combination of things, and this obsession with "it's next-gen so it needs to look amazing right now" really needs to chill out. Compare a PS3 launch title with The Last of Us or GTA V and get back to me.

Yes, this game was over-hyped and marketed to be an absolute game-changer, and really, it doesn't live up to any of that. It was delayed for several months, so I think many of us took that as "well gee that must mean it's going to be REALLY good!" and the hype only grew. This game is not a good enough reason to buy a next-gen console if you don't already have one, in my opinion. I think it's a wonderfully enjoyable game and if people can expand their minds a bit and try to embrace the stealth emphasis they'd have even more fun with it, but this game is nothing ground-breaking. It has some fun tricks (and they ARE fun) and some great voice acting (Aiden, not so much, but the others are fantastic), but this is not a game that will raise the bar any higher than it already was before it was launched.

I pre-ordered Watch Dogs so long ago it was shipped to the wrong address. I was looking forward to it as much as The Last of Us and GTA V and Bioshock Infinite and Second Son and Dark Souls 2, but I am not disappointed with it. I could gripe about how Ubisoft tricked us into thinking it had better graphics (*cough*Dark Souls 2*cough*) when really it looks like it could have been achieved on a PS3, or how it was over-hyped, but really that last one seems to be the key issue being had here with all the negative reviews.

Ubisoft prepared us for a 10, so to see that in reality it's just an 8, we're all crushed. I know that I for one considered returning my copy after seeing the reviews (I'm still thoroughly enjoying Dark Souls 2) until that dawned on me. It was supposed to be "phenomenal", but in reality it's just "pretty good". It was supposed to be the reason to own a next-gen console, and it isn't.

Paul Tassi at Forbes does a good job at saying this:

"It’s a tough situation for developers. You want your fans to think you’re bringing them the moon with a new game, but with those sorts of lofty promises, you sometimes oversell your own product. When played in a vacuum, Watch Dogs is a very good sandbox game. But as it exists in this world where it’s meant to be an earth-shattering original IP and the birth of a new uber-franchise, it comes up short in many noticeable areas. It can often feel more derivative than innovative, despite its array of new hacking toys, and may disappoint some expecting more than it delivers."

Watch dogs is a great premise and a decent game overall but the game hits a wall where it becomes a chore to play. I got up to 70% completion before I hit this wall.

the hacking aspect is good but it needed more. you can only hack a few things and most things don't work as you would want. example is police chases. when the cops are called something called a "ctOS" scan is started, which is supposed to be a series of all the cameras in the city looking for you. the problem is, it doesn't work that way. it puts a bubble on your mini map and if you are in it a % indicator goes up, if it hits 100% the cops TELEPORT to you.

the police chases itself aren't to bad. unlike GTA 5 cops do not have ESP. but you cannot shoot while driving. only hack. and if you are on foot. you die VERY fast.

there are various side activities to do, but most are chores or boring in general.

probably the best part about the game is the invasions for online play. players can join your single player world and hack you or stalk you. you have to find them before they hack you (it gives you a small search area first) it's unique because it makes you paranoid. thankfully you can turn this mode off, but it resets your multiplayer rank completely if you do.

there are some other online modes but for the most part they aren't special.

overall the game is only slightly above average. it wasn't worth the wait. GTA 5 is a much better game, has much more content as well. if you NEED a new game, watchdogs isn't bad. but if are content with what you have, just pass it or wait for a price drop.

I feel like most of the gamers had very high expectations concerning Watch Dogs and just felt let down when playing it, but if, like me, you didn't buy the game one year after its release date, then you probably don't have those expectations.

So first thing first : the looks, it's not the most important thing in a game but it still is your first contact with it, and although there has been an obvious graphic downgrade compared to the first public appearance of the game, but honestly the game is still beautiful and worthy of next-gen consoles, my only technical issue is the clipping (when parts of the game such like cars or people aren't visible in the distance and appear out of the blue when you get close), which is pretty common for open-worlds.

And about the world of the game, the city of Chicago is very well pictured in the game and it feels like a true living city (car accidents, robbery, conversation, romance, etc... and you don't have anything to do with those) but it lacks in interaction with you the player especially when compared to GTA 5. You don't have a real life, only a purpose be the Vigilante and yes that can keep you busy for a while (approximately 300 side activities to do), but gets monotonous when you already did 200 of them...

Concerning the main story I have seen a lot of complaints about the uncharismatic Aiden Pearce, I agree to say it doesn't have a lot of charisma but it's the same for every modern Ubisoft Games (except Ezio), concerning the support characters, you can read them pretty easily, but they aren't badly done, just expected. The story is probably the worst part of the game, its definitely generic, not bad, but predictable for any regular consumer of entertainment.

But now let's talk about the best part of the game, its gameplay, yes the driving can be improved to be more realistic but it stills very easy to master and won't bother you at hole during the game. The shooting and infiltration phases are good and not too easy (don't forget you can change the difficulty in the options) but above all else, what makes Watch Dogs unique it's the hacking, it's everywhere around you and totally change the gameplay, so yes they can still add more options to it but for the first installment in the franchise it's already a success.

So yes Watch Dogs isn't a "WAHOU" game but it's good entertainment and for the first installment of the franchise very promising for the future (way better than Assassin's Creed 1) and definitely worth of the money (50 hours if you want the 100%). I advise the game for every gamer, except the ones that are very story oriented.

The outdoor environments are excellent, The story so far is interesting, but confusing. I not very far into the game so i am reviewing it after playing about 5 hours or so. The basic preface of the game is your some sort of hacker, think of him as batman with a cell phone. You were doing a job, and somehow they traced it back to you, they hurt your family and now your looking for revenge. Which is fine, but you know now the most original story.

The biggest flaw in this game to me the inability tho drive and shoot at the same time. This feature was removed for some reason, This should be in the game, it makes absolutely no sense logically why you can't shoot and drive at the the time.

There is very minimal blood, It disappoints me because it was supposed to be the Next Gen Console. Total disappointment.

The game punishes you it seems, when you "accidentally." kill a civilian when driving. OK Seriously Ubisoft?

In short this game could of been a contender to beat GTA 5, but in sooooo many times it falls short, because of bad decision making by the developers. You can't even beat up the civilians walking around with a melee attack. Why not Ubisoft? Are you trying to go for that teen rating? I feel the game we got was completely censored, and it breaks the immersion time after time again.

Watch_Dogs is a good open world game, but should be compared with Sleeping Dogs, and not GTA. Ubisoft tried to give a step bigger than a new franchise can, and it was a failure. Watch_Dogs worths for its multiplayer, but who wants a singleplayer game experience, better to keep on playing GTA IV and GTA V.

Fun but not as fun as i thought it would be. Story OK, hack awesome.AC BF is better. It's gta with the ability to hack things. Doesn't feel next gen. Multilayer hasn't worked for me yet. Nothing ground breaking here.

    PlayStation 4

This review is based on my own experience and does not intend to insult other reviewers or their opinions.

Graphics – Personally the graphics within the Watch-Dogs universe vary, sometimes you will look at the beautiful landscapes and be blown away by the detail, other times you will notice that after a very bad crash in your car it is left unmarked and the headlights still operational therefore destroying the illusion of the game, the rain effects are especially nice, the puddles and the effects of it soaking our hero Aiden Pierce are very impressive though once again there are downsides to this, you will notice how the rain effects our main character but those around him seem to be shielded from it once again shattering the illusion. The hair of the characters also don’t come across as I would imagine in next gen, they reminded me of Final Fantasy, blocked and clumped together. I suppose this can all be saved by the beautiful landscapes of the high tech Chicago, it is very impressive and exceeds what GTA5 done by far.

Characters – The characters can be the biggest downfall within this game, they are very solid and though the story is based on Aiden and his family you don’t really find yourself caring about them, Aiden himself tries to crack a few emotional moments and jokes to lighten the mood but it all falls on deaf ears. The main thing that bugged me were the phone conversations between Aiden, his sister and his old mentor, during the conversations you wouldn’t believe that it was a kidnapping, once again you find yourself moaning at the screen for them to shut up and move on.

Story – The story itself I can only speak on behalf of half of it, I am only up to Act 3 and though that may seem silly, reviewing a game I have not yet completed the fact I have got to Act 3 and still do not feel compelled to unravel it further says a great deal in terms of storyline and progression. The story has potential to be amazing but falls flat, feels very repetitive and forced, scattered would be the best word for it.

Result – Personally I found that looking forward to it for nearly a year and a half and expecting a truly beautiful and story packed game to highlight exactly what a next gen console could do wrecked the actual result, my expectations were too high, It reminded me of the films that have trailers better than the film itself. Everything seemed to fall flat for me on this title, though it is good to play on to pass an hour or so while bored it is not the game that had me glued to the TV from dusk until dawn.

This game promised so much and got to much hype for what it actually is. Driving is terrible, the cars are clunky. Fortunately enough the story is okay, but again to much hype for what was actually delivered.

While in the first couple of hours you'll be overwhelmed, once you've played it for half a week or a week you'll find the game fails to deliver. Get to where they are, press a button, and you're done, off to the next.
The other 'collectibles' are sidemissions: clearing out gang hideouts, destroying criminal convoys, etc.; but all of these are simple kill-em-all-and-be-done-with-it. Yes, you can choose whether you want to go in guns blazing or if you want to be sneaky, but there's not much of a difference. The sneaky approach utilizes hacking, but the hacking mechanics aren't interesting, to say it kindly. Hacking is way too easy, and there's only 1 type of puzzle. At least in AC4 there were 3 or 4 different kinds of puzzles when hacking...

The other major letdown is the fact that there's tons of multiplayer issues. Every time I tried to initiate multiplayer, the game told me it was unable to connect to public sessions, and that I should check my NAT type. My NAT is type 1, and noone on the forums could tell me why NAT type 1 was wrong (and that's correct, it shouldn't be wrong at all).
Even if you manage to access multiplayer, every form of multiplayer apart from 1v1 requires PlaystationPlus.

Visually, the game fails to delives too. It's graphics are on a par with last years GTA V for the PS3 - dissappointing for a PS4 game to say the least.

It's sad to see that a game that could've been brilliant ends up being mediocre, and saying that is pretty generous...

My only concern was that the game would be identical to Assassin's Creed IV which I had found monotonous in it's repetition of the same tasks/gameplay.

I'm now at the stage where I have just finished up to Chapter 3 and my overall opinion is that the game is much better than Assassin's Creed IV (maybe I didn't like the historical setting on that one) but still suffers from what, based on playing two Ubisoft games, is extreme repetition of the same tasks.

I'm not going to talk to the graphics because in my mind they look fine. Did they blow me away? No. But hey certainly aren't as bad as some people are making out.

Whilst this is an open world game the city of Chicago actually feels fairly small and one of the biggest problems for me is that despite a couple of differences (Pawnee in particularly) everywhere in the game looks almost identical. With the absence of variety in location this is just further exacerbated by the repetition in the nature of the missions. At the start of the game the hacking idea is new and exciting and I have to confess I do still enjoy the stealth nature of trying to hack into cameras and solve a mission entirely that way. However, after 15+ hours it just becomes far too similar. There are probably around 4 different mission types which effectively repeat throughout the entire game. Therefore, it is very easy to become bored by what you are doing.

The story itself is nothing new and revolutionary and in some respects felt to me a bit like a tv show where they have 22 episodes to fill what could essentially have been done in 8 so everything is long and drawn out just to extend the life of the story rather than because there are jaw-dropping twists and turns that keep you engaged.

It's interesting seeing so many comments on the driving mechanics as from my perspective I actually found it far easier than driving in GTAIV or GTA V. I do share the frustration though that even after breaking line of sight far too often you would almost escape in the car only to have the police/enemy suddenly arrive in oncoming traffic from nowhere and the whole chase to start up again.

The side missions/collectibles I just found incredibly frustrating. The gang hideouts and criminal convoys in particular are actually pretty difficult and frustrating and so don't really inspire completion unless you are someone who has the patience of a saint.

That also leads me to another issue which really was the significant frustration in how easy it is to die and how repetitive this makes everything. Save points are few and far between and often you end up having to repeatedly sit through cut scenes of 5 minutes+ without having an option to skip them. As mentioned on another review it is far too easy to die after taking only a few hits often meaning you don't even get chance to turn round to face an enemy or get to any cover before you are killed. For me the worst thing in any game is forcing people to repeat huge swathes of action over and over again. The only challenge I find here is not putting the controller through the tv!

That being said with the exception of Aiden Pearce the other characters are engaging. The novelty of hacking is interesting and for me the stealth aspects of the game are far superior to those in ACIV and really set it above that. I think with either more variety in the types of mission or differences in location then this would have really helped the game.

In summary, the game is slightly above average for me but is certainly not something that in my mind inspires me to 100% completion or repeat play.

Watchdogs is another game that has been hated on unfairly. Most people are still mad because the game we got was not the game that Ubisoft showed us two years before. The game has a good, interesting cast of characters, but the main character seems lifeless. He's not he badass you would expect. Some elements of the story are cliché but still entertaining. Many people complain about the driving. I had no problems with it, but I MUST tell you that if you play this game, get comfortable with the driving because most of the game is either driving from point A to B, or doing very difficult car chase sections. I wish there was more gunplay instead of driving and servelance. The game can get quite boring at times, but can still be fun. The tracks for the car radio are complete **** I found that only one song out of 25, I think, I enjoyed. That's bad since you are driving always. The hacks were cool but there could have been more. All in all a solid game. No it is not a rip off of GTA 5,so shut that up!!! GTA has better gameplay and a crazy ass story. Plus watchdogs has a more serious tone, but not as serious and dark as It should have been. The graphics were also good. Not as good as it was originally, but you can tell that they really worked on the look of the game. Not to say that they couldn't have worked harder. This game is good and fun, but I doubt you will make it through a second playthrough. Not a bad buy though. Expand

This game is extremely overrated. I'm not worried about the graphic drops.. i bought this game 2 YEARS ago... and only played a bit of it because its so BORING! The story is horrible as well!
I am finally just now beating it and i'm reminded how tedious the missions are! Cannot believe people would want a sequel when there's much better games out there!

Nice idea, bad execution. Too much shooting, crime prevention bugs like hell (perp takes a gun out, point's it at victim, I beat him, get fail, apparently I acted too soon(!!!!!!!!!)) and driving physics are ridiculous.
If they just focused more on actual hacking and took influences from games like uplink in mini-games instead of pipe-mania it would be great.

Even if the graphics are a little bit lacking compared to what was shown at E3, I still had a blast playing the game for the first 5 hours. The game world is so rich and full of stuff to do that I barely advanced the main quest. I love the gameplay overall (combat is super fun and hacking is gimmicky but I enjoy it).

Overall I would give it a 8.5 but the flux of unwarranted ZERO/10

Watch Dogs isn't a perfect game that can at times become frustrating and repetitive, but it tells an entertaining story with a believable antihero at the helm that, like everything else in the game, finds a balance between hero and villain. The antihero the game revolves around, Aiden Pearce, is a hired gun of sorts out to save the world through violence and destruction. The antihero the game revolves around, Aiden Pearce, is a hired gun of sorts out to save the world through violence and destruction. Anyone who has seen Boondock Saints will have a loose grasp on the general story and the protagonist. If you don't like the premise of saving the world through morally reprehensible means, you probably won't find the story appealing.

The game both looks and sounds good. The graphics are technically strong, bringing to life a beautiful knock off of Chicago in the fall. The world itself looks nice, the character models are well done and the models for the main characters come close to looking realistic. The main cast does an excellent job of voicing their characters, while the sound effects are full bodied and add to the game. The one area the presentation falters is in the physics. The NPC characters that fill the city just don't look right when they run and cars, especially motorcycles, bounce off things in ways that arejarring and remind you that this isn't reality, which we all know it isn't, but it still makes you think about it when you're supposed to be enjoying the game. While graphics, voice acting and sound effects aren't everything, they can really help make the experience more enjoyable and they do just that in Watch Dogs.

The gameplay is a fun knock off of GTA with hacking added in. There is the standard stealing cars, evading the police, killing rivals and general destruction and mayhem. On top of that is added interactions that can be used to help evade police by turning traffic signals to cause accidents or raising bridges, along with helping in combat. There are numerous minigames within the game that are varied and fun. They range from hacking based minigames where you try to hack into a webcam or phone to invade someone's privacy (within the game it's less creepy than it sounds, but still makes you feel weird), to combat missions to driving based contracts. Gun combat is fun and there is a variety of weapons to choose from so you can find what fits your playstyle. After a certain point I only ended up using two guns for the rest of the game (a silenced Vector ACP and a .50 caliber sniper rifle called "The Destroyer") but it felt more like I had found the guns that fit my playstyle than these were the guns to use and everything else was terrible. The game can become unpleasant to play at times. Police chases can drag on for far too long and there are spikes in difficulty in some of the combat based mingames. For trophy hunters there are two trophies in particular that are terrible. Traced, which is completely out of your control, and Disc Space Full, which will most likely require you going insane trying to find the Ms. Crumby song. When trophies/achievements are so luck based and so frustrating to get it takes the joy out of working to get them.

The story and characters are where the game truly shines. The protagonist strikes an excellent balance between "he's a terrible person" and being able to root for him to succeed. He does a lot of good through a lot of terrible means. The story is aware of this and delves into it. The side characters and antagonists are colorful characters that range from entertaining to interesting. There are numerous side stories within the game through investigations that are interesting and make you feel more like you're expanding on a rich world than having to run around looking for collectibles.

The online is fun, and honestly funny, though it's not something you'll probably come back to after a while. There are online races, two spying based modes and what essentially comes down to online team keepaway . The two spying based games are by far the best of the group and can be really funny watching how people react trying to find you. I laughed several times at people seeing what they did trying to find me, realizing I did the same thing when being invaded and how I must look.

Watch Dogs walks a fine line very well. There are times you feel creepy hacking into someone's webcam to watch them, and times you feel like a hero tracking down a serial killer. There are times the protagonist feels morally reprehensible, but at the same time is doing what he does to try to make the world better. The cast of side characters are mostly terrible people, but you can see their humanity and understand them as the story goes on. Watch Dogs is no brainer for anyone who likes a dark story, sandbox gameplay and an antihero lead, but also has a good enough story and combat that I would recommend it to anyone who likes GTA type games.

Given the amount of content in the game and a multiplayer that is fun I would recommend Watch Dogs as a buy.

The game starts off kinda slow, introducing you to some of the new mechanics which can be slightly overwhelming when they are being explained. From hacking, to the upgrade system and the different 'powers', but it soon makes sense once the game lets you loose. I think the main thing to do is give it a chance. I had all but given up after a few hours, but I came back to it and saw it for what it is - just some good fun. The story meant nothing to me, so I just saw it as a way to connect the various missions, many of which rely on stealth. People have slated the stealth portions, but if you use the various hacks effectively, there shouldn't be any issues with this. It stops blowing into a section, guns blazing and forces you to think about it.

I should also give a small nod to the online play. I have only played the 1-on-1 hacking, but find it to be fun and not at all intrusive to the main game. You can opt to turn it off so that people cannot hack you whilst you are playing the story, but I found it to be a nice change of pace.

Even though Watch Dogs might have fallen short of everyone's expectations, that doesn't mean that Watch Dogs is a bad game. Quite the opposite. Watch Dogs manages to be an impressive new IP that manages to make a name for itself and stand on its own.

The unique mechanic and selling point of Watch Dogs is hacking. All of Chicago is hooked up to a single network known as cTOS. Almost every piece of technology you find is linked together, including computers, phones, cars, and even all the cameras in the city. Your character Aiden is able to hack into all of this technology using his smart phone, and it's the one thing that gives Watch Dogs it's niche in the open world genre. Hacking is fun, and you can useful in multiple ways, including stealth.

Stealth segments are superb, and are easily the most enjoyable aspect of the game. With well-done cover to cover mechanics helping you keep hidden, and fast take downs to minimize chances of detection. What makes stealth better is using your phone to hack the cameras in the area, allowing you to mark enemies so you can see them through walls, and letting you trigger all of the traps and hazards to kill your enemies. Blowing up power boxes to kill nearby enemies or cutting power and making you less visible to your enemies was always satisfying. Also, you can use the enemies own technology against them, activating enemy grenades, or distracting them with their phones.

Aside from that, you can also hack during car chases. There are so many hazards in the city to hack, including traffic lights, underground steam pipes, and even road blockers. All of these are useful and are great for taking enemies out, whether you're chasing them or being chased yourself, and are great to use when outnumbered. They're also easy to use because the game uses a prompt to activate them, so you never have to actually look at the hazards to use them. I took out a ton of enemies without even knowing where they're coming from, and I loved it.

One thing I like in Watch Dogs is an effective fast travel system. Chicago's a huge city, and an effective fast travel system was needed, which is something a lot of open world GTA type games lack. You unlock these by hacking puzzle based towers, similar to Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 3.

However, Watch Dogs isn't perfect. Like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise, Watch Dogs has a wealth of side content. Unfortunately, Ubisoft usually sacrifices quality for their side missions in favor of providing more of them. However, this means that the side content ends up being generic and nowhere is this more true than in Watch Dogs. Unlike Assassin's Creed, which had a few memorable missions, Watch Dogs has nothing. Even the investigation missions - which had a chance to be something worth while -amount to little more than the typical side mission.

Speaking of which, Ubisoft's tendency to add so much side content usually means that a lot of other aspects of the game come up short, and this includes the story. The first flaw with the story you notice is in Aiden himself. Aiden is not particularly interesting, or likable for that matter. Plus, he has absolutely no background, which means why he's able to hack the city with ease or handle his arsenal of weapons effortlessly remains of mystery. There was nothing on this guy in the campaign or the side content. Luckily, the supporting cast easily help to make up for Aiden's shortcomings, but the problems don't stop there. The cTOS network is set up to be this evil corporation, but the game never does a good job of making that clear. Aiden seems more of a menace to the city than cTOS ever was. DedSec, the people fighting cTOS are hardly given any screen time. Lastly, the ending is the worst part of the campaign. The ending is sudden, ends abruptly, and sequel baits so cheaply.

The Car on Demand app is cool, which summons a car to park nearby, but there's no garage mechanic, allowing you to save vehicles. Because of this, there's no customization or a way to personalize your cars. Driving controls are the floatiest of any game I've ever played. If you're used to any other form of driving, you will hate the feel of the cars, constantly peeling out and having an overall lack of control. Plus, here's no way to shoot while driving. Sure, you can hack in the city to disable vehicles, but there's nothing to hack on the highways, and you end up there often enough to where shooting becomes necessary. Combining shooting with the focus ability, which slows down time, would've been perfect for shooting out tires or taking out drivers.

Lastly, the graphics are not what Ubisoft promised. The trailers and demos look way better than what's here, but that doesn't mean they're bad.

Overall, while flawed, Watch Dogs high points far outweigh the bad, and ends up being a great game that could eventually end up being a great franchise. With the obvious sequel set up and great sales, we'll see more of Watch Dogs eventually.

The graphics are outstanding on my PC and while the game has some occasional brief framerate drops due to asset streaming it still runs well overall. There is a lot of detail in this world and I find it fun just to go around the city checking out the sights.

Anyway, overall this game is a strong first entry in a new franchise. I can't wait to see where they go with it from here.

The main story is borderline atrocious. It's just unbelievable and weak and cliched and just straight up boring. That being said, all other aspects of the game bring it up. No, the graphics are not as good as when we first saw the game at E3 2012. Were they ever going to be? I doubt it. Ubisoft likes to show its games off on high-end PCs which are more graphically capable than home consoles. Look at Far Cry 3's original showing! The E3 demo was out before the company was likely to get its hands on a proper PS4 and the small section of the world in that showing is nothing compared to the large environment we get in the final game. All in all, Watch Dogs is still a magnificent looking game, with a beautiful city, realistic effects and well animated character models. It still looks next gen and that's what matters. With that out of the way, let's talk about what matters in the game...

As you may know, Watch Dogs is an open world action game that uses one thing to differentiate itself from GTA (no it's not the city of Chicago). That one thing is hacking. While many outright condemned the game when it was revealed that one button would be responsible for all the crazy phone shenanigans, it makes for an interface that isn't crowded and an accessibility that will have many picking up the game and playing instantly. You can raise bridges, close and open gates and doors, change traffic lights, raise and lower blockers... and that's just the beginning! As you progress through the game, you'll earn experience points that can help advance your level and in doing so, gift you with skillpoints. You can use these points on any of the four trees which are Hacking (the one you'll want to go for first seeing as how it's what makes the game so unique and because it is what will open the most opportunities to you), Combat, Crafting (which is pretty cool and is definitely useful when you're in tight spots) and Driving. The other sides of the gameplay are also well implemented. Driving has received a mixed reaction and while I will say that it isn't as good as that of GTA V, the arcadey style is reminiscent of Need for Speed and feels great as you smash through the streets, knocking over poles, bins and occasionally civilians at high speeds. With the car on demand app, you can call pretty much any vehicle as soon as you've found it/bought it/unlocked it. This is a great idea and makes getting around easy. While you can't save or customize cars, you can get an endless supply of any chosen machine. The on foot controls are also excellent. Free running and parkour are lightly implemented and they can make the chases easy and exhilarating. The shooting and combat is amazing. The melee isn't really explored with one button and one weapon, but there are over 30 guns and they react differently yet well. I loved the silenced pistol you start off with, but often switched to my grenade launcher, ACR assault rifle and automatic shotgun. Slaughtering bad guys feels great and the weapon wheel responds well in real-time. But it isn't just crazy shooting, because there is a surprising amount of stealth options. Sneaking around with a suppressed gun, scoring headshots and lining up kills is awesome, but it's even better when you can take out a whole base through the use of well placed traps after a bit of camera hopping. Hacking truly is your weapon. The "slow time Focus" mechanic may be claimed from other games, but you won't care seeing as how you'll use it so often. Whether it's lining up a shot or slowing time to hack something at high speeds in a car, Focus is brilliant!

The gameplay of Watch Dogs is highly smooth and is one of the best experiences I've had all year. But what about the story? Many have said that it's cliched and repetitive. Yes, Aiden Pearce does have a Batman voice and yes he is fairly bland, but at least his cause is justified and the supporting characters more than make up for his attitude. Clara Lille is sly and resourceful, T-Bone is cool and Jordi gives the game charisma. The narrative centres around Aiden going after a bunch of bad dudes who are responsible for killing his 6 year old niece. It starts off as a straightforward revenge tale and takes a while to warm up, but get halfway though Act II (there are 5 act) and you'll find the game hard to put down. I clocked the campaign at 31 hours and was 58.1%.As you can see, it's a long game.

The best thing about Watch Dogs is its side content. The city isn't massive, but each person has their own story and agenda which makes it feel more lifelike than San Andreas, Steelport or even Skyrim. There are a tonne of side missions, collectibles, investigations and mini games, along with cool digital trips that have their own missions and skill trees. The multiplayer is also great, with traditional games like CTF and Racing standing beside the imaginative Hacking and Tailing invasion modes that make the game feel like Dark Souls. Those two modes are free to play on any console as well which is great.

I could go on, because Watch Dogs is truly a massive game. Don't believe the haters- It's great!

Tailing is similar where you basically follow someone and they have no idea you're there (unless they profile you).
Decryption is okay and so is the online racing, I don't really bother with them as much though.
The reason I gave it an 8/10 is because of the free roam, you can only walk around with your friends, there is absolutely nothing else you can do but walk/drive around the city so that gets boring quickly.

Anyway, really good game. People who give it bad reviews are comparing it to GTA, not every open-world game has to be compared to GTA!

Watch_dogs offers a great open world, but outside of the campaign, there is only a lot of repetitive missions to do. It offers great graphics, especially on cut scenes, however I found the game can lag a little. I enjoyed the game, some easy and difficult (ACT 2 MISSION 6) missions. I found it similar to GTA at the start and then it diverged, but I can still see the similarities.

Some say GTA V reigns while a minority say Watch Dogs is superior. While I am with the latter, there are a few points that make Watch Dogs shine in comparison. The biggest is the immersion of the world. It's NOT because the map is Chicago, it's because of the Profiler. Each pedestrian has a near unique identity that you can hack into by listening to phone conversations and by reading texts or emails. It adds a whole new level that no open world has offered. In addition to this, the hacking is a novel idea that makes you feel in control of the world. It certainly is not as engaging as promised, but that in no way diminishes the fun of it.

With comparing the combat to other games, Watch Dogs delivers. The levels are crafted to encourage the use of hacking (duh) rather than brute force, but sometimes requires both to succeed. The cover system employed nicely complements the stealth aspect to where if you made full use of your skills, no resistance should be met. However it's played, there is a nice progression system that makes your tasks easier no matter what route you take.

Since comparisons are the theme, the driving in Watch Dogs is terrible. The physics is oddly programmed to the point that I had to ditch a truck stuck because a tire from a tire swing got lodged in the bed (no joke). When you get airborne, it feels awkward; when you off road it feels awkward; when you crash it feels awkward and unsatisfying. You get the picture.

The biggest problem with the game I had was the recycling of ideas. While the style of main story missions where incredibly fun, there got to be a point where I wanted to see a fresh idea just because it I was tired of the same concept. Outside of the main missions, there are some side missions that suffer with repetition, while others are entirely enjoyable and flesh out the story.

Overall, there are solid strengths that make the game worthwhile despite the negative feedback that has overshadowed the game.

The plot focuses on the high-tech exploits of Aiden Pearce, hacker and self-styled vigilante. He’s a bit of a dullard, really, and prone to occasional bouts of hypocritical self-reflection (in between shooting men in the face, and running down hobos). Before the action starts we learn that Pearce and his partner Damien get involved in a risky hack job at a hotel, a mission that goes hideously wrong and ends up with an unknown villain retaliating against Aiden. His niece, Lena, dies in the crossfire and so begins a classic tale of one man’s quest for answers / revenge. For all the game’s reliance on tech, it’s the basest of human emotions that drives the story forward, which is either a clever nod from the developers or a lucky coincidence. Ubisoft Montreal, I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt on this one!

Story-wise, the game is mostly dud. All the characters are unimaginative stereotypes, with thin motivations and forgettable personalities. Hacker chick with piercings? Check. Sinister, elderly villain? Check. Gang leader with a stupid name? Check. The plot itself is a mixture of predictable twists, dressed up with strange leaps of logic and enough technobabble to make Bill Gates soil his beige chinos with delight.

At first glance, the game’s setting appears as shallow as its inhabitants. Chicago is a lively mixture of skyscrapers, slums, and the token ‘countryside’ bit--sadly inferior next to the wonderfully colourful, sun-drenched San Andreas of GTA 5. Look closer, though, and the city’s true beauty becomes apparent. It’s densely packed with details, hidey-holes, and some utterly dark secrets--many of which you only start to discover once you start poking around side-missions and optional quests. Perhaps my favourite moment in the whole game happens when I cause a mighty car crash, and see a couple of ghoulish pedestrians taking videos of the carnage on their phones. It really brought the game alive for me. The only real reservation I have about Watch Dogs’ Chicago is that--during the majority of my 40+ hour playthrough--it was either dark or dull. In rare moments of sunshine the game looks beautiful, really showing off its new-generation credentials.

Vehicle handling is very heavy in the game, and unless you hop on a bike or high-end sports car, most rides feel the same. That’s no bad thing, as you’re less likely to fishtail out of control when you’re fleeing the fuzz. It’s also a little less twitchy than other open-world games to make on-the-road hacking easier to do--a welcome trade-off. There’s an immense joy in zipping through traffic lights, hacking them, and watching your pursuer smash into the confused drivers behind you. It’s so satisfying, that the game even cuts to a crash-cam when you’ve timed it to perfection.

Then there’s the multiplayer, which is incredibly well implemented. Most features are integrated into the single player, and you get a pop-up message allowing you to accept or deny invites. Nice touch--sometimes you just want to be left alone. If accepted, other players enter your game to play one-on-one hacking games, races, or police chases.

Watch Dogs’ interconnected world is a wonderful, explosive, high-tech playground. Shame the people who inhabit it are so forgettable.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the setting, story and general premise of Watch Dogs so I'll get right to the nitty-gritty. The game looks pretty decent and performs well on the PS4 at 900p and 30fps. Some of the textures maybe lacking but this clearly wasn't going to be on par with what was seen at E3 2012. The weather effects are brilliant though along with the lighting.

The mechanics and interface of Aiden are very easy to get to grips with. The controls are simple but well laid out and the cover system along with movement is solid. However, the driving is extremely poor. Cars bounce off other cars in a comical and arcade fashion. The accelerating and braking feels like the semi-serious Saints Row and you also can't use guns from your car so chases are very dissatisfying with you ping-ponging off the other cars and scenery. This is a major letdown considering how important driving is in this open world game. The cars handle reasonably around corners but the driving elements just feel sloppy and woefully implemented.

The story is long and very interesting and is extremely well presented with an array of characters and settings. As the game progresses; you can unlock skills from the in-depth skill tree to improve Aiden. Skill points can be earned by completing side missions and overall performance in the campaign. There is tonnes to unlock and plenty to get your teeth into.

Overall, Watch Dogs is a great game but the driving mechanics could be unforgivable for some. It's a game that is smartly designed and incredibly atmospheric but discredited by the driving. If you're looking for a thrilling story and a game that's unfamiliar with a fresh IP; it maybe worth overlooking the negatives just for this alone.

The story is fascinating and lengthy, it is great to play an open world game that isn't filled with the ridiculous low-brow humor that Saints Row and GTA is filled with, which is the biggest reason why I haven't bought either of those series in years. Watch Dogs takes itself much more seriously, and the game is better for it. No aircraft was a bit of a disappointment, but perhaps that will be in the next game.

As a new IP, this game does everything it should, it establishes an amazing basis for future entries to expand on massively. Ubi are amazing at creating new IP, and if the difference between AC1 and AC2 is anything to go by, then WD2 should be a truly amazing game. I have seen a comparsion of XOne and PS4 grafics and the PS4 was flat collors and at day misty/fogy.

I have no clue how they made it look like this. It is not the case with my TV they probably fuked up some TV settings and the brightness setting in the game... Do not belive the hater train.

If you are normal minded this game will be fun for you if like this kind of games. If you only like GTA and all other somehow a little bit like GTA games always suck in your opinon, just wait for next GTA, as usual. ;)

In most of the reviews, people complain about the graphics and the car handling, along with comparing it to GTAV, which is absurd. Firstly, the game is so incredibly dense, and full of varied missions, challenges, collectibles, stores and other little extra distractions that can keep you away from the main campaign for hours on end. I personally found the way each car handles incredibly varied, and love the way that every vehicle can feel very different to another. It takes getting used to, and this is what I believe people complain about; vehicles can be difficult to drive at first, but you get the hang of it. You can't accelerate to a great velocity and not expect to run off the road when the steering gives out. I've got a feeling the people that complain about the driving have had too much hand holding in terms of ABS and vehicles that handle like they're made of cardboard, rather than metal. I'm sorry, but I found the handling incredibly intuitive, and those that found it difficult probably spent five minutes on the game, and then gave up. It's the only explanation I can come up with. Watch Dogs does not spoon feed you; work things out for yourself, get a feel for the vehicles, and plan out tactics for each mission and challenge, and you'll do well, and no, it won't be easy.

This is not, by all means, a hardcore game, but it offers challenges that few, if any, can match. There are many distractions, like I mentioned earlier, and you will continue to find new things to do many hours after you feel you've seen it all. The map may not be huge, but it is dense.

There are over seventy vehicles overall, ranging from pickups to motorbikes to performance vehicles, each with it's own stats. New vehicles, music and crafting components can be hacked from civilians, along with discovering them for yourself around the city.

The online hacking feature is seamless, allowing you to break into somebody else's game and steal their data, increasing your notoriety, which in turn upgrades various skills such as damage done to vehicles, nitro in online races, etc. Notoriety can decrease if you are caught, or if you yourself are successfully hacked by another player, effectively making your skills fluctuate, by activating and deactivating as it increases and decreases past the threshold.

Overall, Watch Dogs is well on it's way to becoming GOTY, and it wouldn't surprise me if it did. The game is dense, varied, fun, original, intriguing, and most of all, it keeps you going for hours. I feel I may still be playing it a week from now, and it still wouldn't have begun to grind on me. Ignore the naysayers, and judge the game for yourself; there are a lot of reviews out there since the embargo lifted. If you are still speculative, borrow it from a friend or rent it out, but I assure you that you will not be disappointed. To me, it's a flawless game, and the negative reviews (especially the zeroes) still perplex me.

Don't listen to alot of these user reviews, the official ones are more reliable because they played the whole game, and the complainers played it for like 3-6 hours.
I played this for quite awhile, and I gotta say, Great Game!, though the driving machanics are kinda bad, and the menu's are a bit of a mess,

i'll give this an 8.75/10, but i'll give some bonus points.

This game is absolutely fantastic. The graphics on PS4 is VERY CLOSE TO ULTRA SETTINGS ON PC (a bit better than High). The gameplay is great and to me gameplay makes the game. The driving ok. Pretty fun once you get more hacking abilities.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the game.

    Regarding driving.

You need to put points in defensive driving and in offensive once you unlock through the side missions.

Motorcycles are the best for getting around town at absurd speed.

3rd person driving works when idling and scanning the block for hack vic's

1st person or bumper view for car chases. (I.E. you have very little actual precision in 3rd when driving at speed)

the sports cars handle very slippery better off with a budget for most chases. (who actually commits robberies in Lambos' in real life tbh!? :) the Mercedes 500 knock off is my fave.

Use the handbrake for pete's sake! (...and let off the gas) you have hacking skills - use them.

2nd tier vehicle blocking skills make a HUGE difference with the flashing blue cues.

In other words a bunch of stuff you don't get straight out the box.

You actually have to play the game...

Characters in the game are very fun as well. I dont care what others say about Aiden, but I think he was cool and was good to play as him. Perfect man for the role in the game if you ask me...
Music is also good. Not the best soundtrack in the world, but hey... it has a Wu-Tang song in it, what else can you ask for!?
Gameplay is the most fun I have had in a long time. Hacking in the game is so fun, so is driving, and so is the parkour.
The only advice I would give is to use grenades when you are facing the super-soldiers, and thats about it, you can shoot your way through the rest with ease.
Well done Ubisoft! you have done a fine job with this one... looking forward to Watch Dogs 2!!!

Please ignore the red scores. They are completely clueless. This game is really good and tons of fun! Especially right now when there aren't many games for the PS4. But I would honestly vote it 9.5 because it is a bit hard to get into in the beginning, when you haven't got any skill points. So you need patience and then you will see how awesome this game is.

Good game. It is creative and a noble attempt at doing something different with the Open world genre. Honestly, I give Watch Dogs an 8/10. I had to give it a 10/10 to try to neutralize some of the "Zeros". Giving it a 0/10 or a 1/10 is just dumb. Oh well. Gotta get back to playing some more Watch Dogs. Enjoy!

Watch Dogs are a really nice game. Ok, looks like AC, of course, but in a new world. The problem is a big hype we were.

The best part to me was the idea of hacking stuffs and when you are been chased, there aren't the whole NYC behind you in a minute. It's a little more real and actually fun. The worst is not everything you can interact. I thought you could go in every grocery store

By the way, I'm enjoying the game and the storyline is nice and attractive.

The controls is as smooth as butter and every button responds immediately, the driving can be tricky at first but once you the hand of it turns out to be one of the best driving experiences ever. Was this worth the wait yes it was Ubisoft delivered and incredible entertaining game that keeps you engaged in the story and game itself this is one of the best Ubisoft games ever and just shows why Ubisoft is world renown for delivering outstanding games.

The hacking is what makes the game shine it is incredibly fun and enjoyable. The characters are incredible and they make the story shine. The lead character does a good job to keep you engaged in the story.

Overall Watch Dogs is incredible and is a outstanding and brilliant game. GTA 5 now has competition is Watch Dogs better than GTA 5. You cannot really compare both games are unique and both are enjoyable.

Watch Dogs is easily a game of the year contender. For me this is one of the best games of 2014 and ranks in my top 10 best games of all time.

Dropped my rating significantly. reason: basic gameplay mechanics are seriously flawed (driving cars), the story starts well but ends up being superficial and formulaic, and as usual Ubi Montreal is more interested in cluttering the game with endless repetitive side-missions than in delivering an interesting narrative with decent gameplay mechanics

So after all the great hype and promising teasers of gameplay, we finally get to experience the long awaited Watchdogs and i have mixed thoughts about the game. i liked most of what i've seen and experienced but there are some vital areas that personally disappoint me.

So after all the great hype and promising teasers of gameplay, we finally get to experience the long awaited Watchdogs and i have mixed thoughts about the game. i liked most of what i've seen and experienced but there are some vital areas that personally disappoint me.

Gameplay - Despite having a vast amount of side missions, you do feel like after completing a few that it does eat away at your interest of the main campaign. It does lack major depth in the side missions but the short details do keep them interesting. The movement is nice & solid which is similar to the feel of Assassins Creed IV but does get irritating when attempting to climb some fences and walls that cant be engaged. The hacking is fun while it lasts and prevents WD from being a generic game. The driving though is the biggest disappointment and almost jeopardizes the entire experience, the control when driving is very poor and it heavily takes away from getaways and chases. The combat system is also a tad too simple and easy. Gameplay Rate: 8

Storyline: I think the story is great but it lacked complexity, it has a basic plot for a very sophisticated world. Better writers could have made this much more engaging. Aidan also at times lacked to pick up the momentum throughout the story, luckily he had a strong supporting cast. Storyline Rate: 4

Challenge: At first the hacking can be annoying but once you've settled in playing you'll get the hang of it but as for the missions i felt it was a bit too easy, the only difficult thing for me was the driving because of the horrible driving system but other then that WD isn't that hard. Challenge Rate: 7.

Fun Factor: A very fun game that i enjoyed and still enjoying at this moment, obviously hacking being on top of the list but even the horrid driving system has fun moments when playing around with blockers and traffic lights. Fun Rate: 7

Graphics & Sounds: The graphics didn't really impress me much, i actually was a fool to expect the quality to be high as it was shown on all the teasers. What i really didn't like was the contrast of color through the game, it was like walking through a bland and unhappy city throughout the whole game even the sunny days were depressing. Expect the same and even less from the game on PS4. Unless you got it on the PC....The sound effects were up too par and accurate, cars crashing and the different sort of guns blasting were sharp and even the the voice casting were great, the in game music wasn't too bad either. Graphics & Sound Rate: 6

My Conclusion: As much as i wanted to praise this game i feel the expectations were set too high, even with a avid amount of things to do in the game i felt there were bits and pieces that prevented this game from reaching its full potential.
Buy or Rent: Buy with caution or if you like Assassin Creed just with a modern technology twist other then that rent first. Want chaos? Stick too GTA V.

Overall Rating - 6.5: Far from perfect

In no way does this game have bad graphics and to hate the game for not looking how you want it to is stupid and childish. Now if you are somewhat mature and can make decisions for yourself you might find this is the perfect game for you. It has a great story and the characters are actually likable. The city feels so alive with every npc having their own personality and reacting like someone would in real life. The game has great ai and the gameplay is fantastic with the hacking adding a whole new level of strategy. I also noticed unlike other open world games this one can be changing at times especially with the second to last mission and the mission "by any means necessary". As for people comparing this to gta just stop. Gta was a pretty big let down with everything except the story. The world was bland and they promised smart ai that would interact with you but that was a complete lie. Gta 5's ai was worse then the ai in gta 4 and the multiplayer is a mess and is still missing stuff they promised back in September of 2013. This game just like all other games has its flaws too. The two biggest being the driving and the world invasion and how it punishes for turning off the ability for people to invade you. This game feels solid and so far its the best next gen game that has come out in my opinion. This game deserves a better score then 6.3 and before you hate the game at least try it you might find that you really like or that you hate it and you just wasted 60 dollars but you'll never know unless you play it. I also love watching some random person running around looking for me when I'm sitting in a parked car right in front of them. "Hey, dummy...I can almost smell your musk from here!" It's hysterical to watch and I can feel their frustration from the other side of the country. Then, when they do discover you...it's on. I had one situation where I drove my car off a bridge, jumped out of the car in mid air and landed near a few docked boats. The guy chasing me followed my lead and a boat chase ensued that resulted in a hacked bridge and my getting shot to pieces. The multiplayer racing is also fun and totally unpredictable (but in a good way). The world is rediculously detailed and alive. I guess I wish there was a little more verticality, a few more things to hack, and shooting while driving, but those are small gripes for a game that never loses my attention. It's been a long time since I last itched to get home from work to play a game. When my wife starts getting pissed at how little attention I am giving her, that's when you know it's good. Expand

Comparing Watch Dogs to GTA does a disservice to both games because they are not alike. The only way they are similar is they are both open world games set in an iconic city and you can drive around in it. Other than that, what Wacthdogs achieves stands out as its own game and it shows in every way. Of course going into WatchDogs feels completely different than a GTA experience. Controls seem slower and refreshingly more deliberate. Aiden is slightly generic almost like batman without a suit [Vigilante]. The city is beautiful and graphics are great but could have been better had it not needed to pander to the last gen systems.

I haven't gotten too far into the game yet so I'm still getting use to it. Driving seems more realistic than GTA 5 although way more sensitive steering makes the jump from other driving games to WatchDogs difficult. Surprisingly when I opened the world map for the first time, I noticed how big Chicago is in this game. And honestly Chicago is refreshing, tired of LA and NY in video games already. the city does feel dense and killing a civilian feels heavier a choice than in GTA 5 for many reasons, and this is great for gameplay. The story is as you'd expect from Ubisoft, well voice acted and deeper than I expected.

Id say this game deserves 8.5/10 because it was hyped ALOT, and i feel like i've seen alot before actually playing. But because there are no decimals, ill have to rate it a 9/10 because 8 is far too low. Good graphics, story, progression, the controls are hard to get use to but they are right for the game. The only thing i don't really like is the close camera to Aiden. I feel like I want to adjust it further away.

Watch Dogs is a fun open world experience. However, the repetitive chases and the formulaic gameplay tend to get tedious and boring after a while. As such, you might want to enjoy the different multiplayer experiences and take frequent breaks to just roam around the city.

It’s a bold first step on the new terrain for Ubisoft. The game is enjoyable, offers some interesting mechanics and lasts for long enough, but is bland as a whole. The characters lack personalities, the city could use more distinctness and the story is instantly forgettable. [07/2014, p.46]
