Why are there so many reviews about other people's reviews? That's their opinion and here is mine. Watch Dogs was suppose to be the first game I got for PS4. Watch_Dogs fou advertised with surreal graphics course in the PC version , with realistic physics and realism by the AI . The game looked stupidly gorgeous and wonderful visuals. But came to E3 2013 and the first downgrade of the game was visible . Here's a visual look and there it spawned a revolt in the community , then came the joke referring Ubisoft will GTAV and then the game was delayed EIGHT months and Ubisoft excuse was : " We need to enhance the game , fix some bugs "

And if memory serves me , the more gameplays Watch_Dogs emerged in the period of late 2013 and early 2014 and a further downgrade was visible again , the visuals of E3 2012 were gone and the game was getting ugly. After Ubisoft released a trailer for a SEASON PASS for Watch_Dogs and this widespread revolt , at least for me .

After the game was leaked and many people downloaded it for PC , of course it was not the full version but the game was completely different from the game we saw at E3 2012 and slightly worse than the version of E3 2013.

The game has several flaws , starting with the graph, which loses old games like GTAIV , gameplay , physics of cars and DAMN DETAIL REFLECTIONS plus SEVERAL bugs .

The positives are the history and fun Easter Eggs , otherwise the game does not deserve to be bought , so my rating is 5 .

Forgiveness for the bad english , I'm using Gogle Translate because I'm Brazilian and do not dominate the American language .

Because of the hype, people were expecting the impossible. Once you really start playing and take your time to play the missions with thought, it is a great game with a deep sense of accomplishment for completing missions using stealth and precision.

The narrative is good, the gameplay is solid and the graphics are great. Sure the graphics were slightly downgraded from the trailers, but

My only gripe is that finding players online is too hard - I am presuming that the servers are under a lot of stress and can't quite handle the load. I hope this gets fixed, because I absolutely love it when somebody enters my game. I hope that over time there will be more multiplayer involvement.

With so little still to play on the PS4, Watch Dogs is definitely THE game to get at the moment. It will keep you hooked for a long time and it provides enough replayability for you to come back. The minigames are fun too, especially the spider tank is massively fun. Heck, it is the game to get on any platform at the moment.

Complete crap. Not sure why they delayed it. Clunkiest, clumsiest driving controls I have ever experienced. General character mechanics are terrible. Gets boring really fast. Very repetitive side mission structure.

On the plus, it is not bad graphically. I have seen better, but I feel like I'm playing a PS3 game and that I'm not looking at next-gen graphics. The game concept is great.

It's basically a better GTA, and people love that in droves. The complaint about not being able to shoot while you're driving is flawed; you can raise city barriers, affect traffic lights, and use a lot of great, innovative methods to eliminate your target.

It is extremely reflective of GTA, so if you're looking for a 100% fresh idea, look elsewhere. It follows the general stories, missions, shops, mini-games, and side missions. This version of an old favorite feels invigorated, however. Driving is more free range, as certain free-standing obstacles don't get in your way as much as GTA's small barriers into parks, gates, traffic light poles, etc. did.

Stealth also plays a big part into invading enemy camps. You have a telescoping baton for performing silent takedowns, and can use cellular signals to set off explosions, or perhaps get a nearby guard to check his phone while you go in for the kill, so to speak.

Roaming around on foot is a lot more fun, thanks to a short profile of every citizen you pass. Running can be done infinitely right from the start, so that's refreshing. YOU CANNOT DIRECTLY JUMP in this game, but rather climb well onto platforms and obstacles. Cash Run is a fun mini-game to play with this scheme, as you collect 8-bit coins and dodge the skulls through the landscape of the city.

The Landscape. Being that I'm B&R in the Chicagoland area and live in the city currently, I had high hopes, as I've been waiting for the Chicago GTA since Vice City. To an outsider, it artistically has many layers between the trees and the buildings. It's a beautiful, fluid city that provides obstacles, but doesn't get in the way, as the traffic of a real Chicago would make for a pretty huge annoyance as a gaming experience.

With the hype around the PS4 being a gaming marvel and personally being very impressed with the console, I was initially hoping to be able to find the in-game location of where I, as an actual person, live in Chicago, as it's close to the Loop. Instead, they have captured the Loop in grand fashion. I came off of a L train and saw the detailed sign for the Adams/Wabash stop, as I marveled at how accurately it looks to being there. The layout is more of a map featuring different sections of Chicago Neighborhoods. The game has changed names and locations, but I felt as if I was walking through places like Logan Square and Millenium Park, as I has a midnight meeting at the famous bean.

In summation, as a gamer and a Chicagoan, I highly recommend giving this a play.

I have 10-12 hours in the game, and most of the time I just wandering around in Chicago and profiling people, stop crimes etc. I did 6 main missions because there are so much content in this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the game.

    Regarding driving.

You need to put points in defensive driving and in offensive once you unlock through the side missions.

Motorcycles are the best for getting around town at absurd speed.

3rd person driving works when idling and scanning the block for hack vic's

1st person or bumper view for car chases. (I.E. you have very little actual precision in 3rd when driving at speed)

the sports cars handle very slippery better off with a budget for most chases. (who actually commits robberies in Lambos' in real life tbh!? :) the Mercedes 500 knock off is my fave.

Use the handbrake for pete's sake! (...and let off the gas) you have hacking skills - use them.

2nd tier vehicle blocking skills make a HUGE difference with the flashing blue cues.

In other words a bunch of stuff you don't get straight out the box.

You actually have to play the game...

Honestly this is a well developed sandbox games that in many ways surpasses GTA V. For one, it has a living breathing world of which the likes I have never seen before, seriously each resident doesn't feel like a lifeless AI whose sole purpose is to walk around, each resident performs a different activity, making Chicago all the more immersive.
The gameplay is ridiculous fun, the hacking ability provides something fresh and invigorating in the sandbox experience. Going into someones personal life or hacking things like pipelines, traffic lights and other such things makes you feel like a master hacker that can get into anyone's life.
Graphics were a controversial topic when it came to this game. The e3 2012 demo showcased some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a sandbox game, which only increased the hype to dramatic heights, unfortunately it was downgraded by a staggering amount due to it being a multi-platform release that included the aging ps3 and xbox 360. Don't get me wrong, the game still looks great for the most part, especially during the night while it is raining, that is a visual feast you must behold. The only reason I put this as a con is because ubisoft once again used false advertising to show us a game we will never fully get, which of course is going to upset users because you played with our expectations, which is unfair.

Another con, surprisingly, is the story. While is showcases many interesting characters who are portrayed with top quality voice acting and animation, the story just seems a bit uninspired. Its tone is inconsistent, segments if the campaign are riveting with cliches, and quite frankly I'm not a fan of the protagonist, at one point he acts like a complete badass by threatening people in subtle ways and sometimes very unsubtle ways and then in the next scene we see him as a family man, his character just seems sporadic and all over the place.
Overall Watch Dogs is an excellent sandbox game that is bustling with activities and sidequests that will keep you occupied for hours. It adds a unique gameplay element that helps distinguish itself from being a gta clone and has some pretty great graphics. I give it an 8 out of 10, if it weren't for a few missteps with the campaign and the false advertising led by ubisoft, this would have most likely been my GOTY

Missions are sometimes similiar but it doesn't feel repetitive thanks to the varied level design. Not a hard game, but challenging at some points, especially if you want to be sneaky.
There's some annoying things on character controls, like you can't shimmy on ledges, climb up tall walls or jump between gaps. Parkour and controls in general are much better in Assassins Creed in my opinion. Hacking is really easy, just one button. Hacking is a fun way to mess with your enemies. Create blackouts, blow up things, control traffic and make distractions.
People on the streets look realistic and natural but their A.I is pretty bad. For instance if you even scratch the sidewalk when driving a car they freak out. Even if you're slowly parking on the side of the road and you get a little bit on the sidewalk they start yelling and sometimes they start fleeing. Cops can be also dumb as hell.
I'm having fun playing this, the storyline is good so far. Worth the money for sure. GTA 5 is better than this though.

III". The driving and physics are on par with a PS2 game, and even San Andreas had more to do than Watch Dogs does a decade later, and I am NOT a huge GTA fan, in fact I think the games are pretty much just shock value, and Rockstar's consistent marketing strategy of creating some kind of media controversy to hype the games makes that an undeniable fact. These kinds of games have never really had any kind of great gameplay to them, but the thing that really turns me off about Watch Dogs is the same thing that turns me off about most games nowadays, and that is their predictability. When a company goes to make a game nowadays, they design their game in the spitting image of whatever game sells best in the same genre (for MMOs it's WoW, for FPS it's CoD, ect), gives it a different character/environment, and add a gimmick. The gimmick in this case obviously being the hacking. It's all very predictable and boring, and Watch Dogs does nothing but continue this trend of homogenization. Ubisoft never wanted Watch Dogs to be it's own game. Watch Dogs wants to be GTA V, it wants to be GTA V so badly yet misses the mark by such a colossal distance that they landed back in the PS2 era. Which turns out to be way more than the sum of it's parts. I have to start by saying that I haven't liked a game from Ubisoft since FarCry 3 and before that it was AC2, so as you can see Ubisoft and I don't always get along. This game provides a lot of really good gameplay aspects which is REALLY what matters unlike those disappointed by the graphics which I can understand considering that it doesn't look as good as the E3 2012 demo. But those saying the graphics suck are **** idiots. The graphics are about as good as AC:BF on the PS4 which looked pretty damn good as well. So all of those little kids **** about the presentation should be ignored seriously. I never do reviews but seeing how some people were scoring this game I just had to. Those of you giving this game a "0" don't **** know what a "0" IS. Go play Mindjack or maybe even Brink during launch week. Then go play Watch Dogs. You'll be crying tears of joy. Also DO NOT go into this game comparing it to GTA. That's not what it is or what it is trying to be. Just go into it with an open mind and enjoy and play what it has to offer. Overall running WAtch Dogs in a 1080p tv looks great and runs great.

-A.I.: I take my hat here and applaude Ubisoft. Seriously I mean, cops are so fu(k!ng agressive, pursuits take so much time and require that you use everything at your disposal to get rid of them. Chasing criminals is another great aspect worth mentioning because when you are running to catch them it is not a "run straight pursuit", for example, when they get to a place where its possible to climb they will, change their direction, etc. Also people react very good to your behavior, get too close and they'll say that you are making them uncomfortable. Take your gun out and they'll call the cops. So many other things I could mention but don't think they could fit in here.

-Gameplay: This section has its pros and only a few cons (In my humble opinion). First I want to point our how good the game react to the control, I mean is so smooth that really catches you. Aiden movements and animations are great and discreet like the hacker he is. Collisions with people and other objects are great too. Overall, I think that the way Chicago is depicted here as a WHOLE is amaizing.
Driving is my only complaint, its not bad but, somehow it feels like hard at the beggining. It only takes some time and practice to get used to. (By the way, when you drive a car or anything, you can put the camera inside car and see your hand and steering wheel, I mean, how COOL is that :D).

-Length: Chicago is your playground, use it, make it your B!TCH. I bought the day one edition and have almost 10 hours registered. There is some much stuff to do in this game, 10 hours and I've only completed the first quest of chapter one, I tend to get distracted causing accidents, hacking other players, chasing criminals, being a criminal (Armed robbery lol)...and the list goes on. Go online and the length grows indefinitely: Races, 1vs1 Hacking, team hacking, etc.

-Sound: Last but not least, the sound. In one word AMAIZING. The music selection is great, from Rock to blues or jazz for those rainy days in Chicago. Once I hacked a Camera and laughed like a maniac listening the conversation of two guys (Apparently one of them got FRIENDZONED).

I give this game 10, it has its unpolished aspects like every other game but the way this game traps you is simply amaizing. Been a long time since I felt so eager to sit down in my couch and play a game. I thank Ubisoft for this.

One mission will never play out the same way twice. Every time I have played, I've seen things happen that are so crazy, you would think that they are scripted, but they are not! It's all the reaction from the NPCs and the environment around you, to your actions and choices. I am very picky when it comes to video games, but I gotta say that you have to respect how well this game came together. As for the driving, it's the only thing that's not amazing, but it is definitely well above just playable. Expand

All these bad reviews are hilarious, people claiming to be dissapointed from what they saw at E3. THe graphics in this game are great, and the game is exactly as advertised, AWESOME.

The multiplayer is a breath of fresh air, very fun. The story is decent, a fairly average revenge tail but the gameplay and all the side activities are greatly done.

If you love open-world games then this is a must buy. People should not have expected WD to outclass GTA V. Rockstar have had over a decade to perfect the formula and it's going to be a while before somebody takes the crown from them. WD is not as refined as GTA V but can be just as detailed and engrossing.

The hacking aspects work really well and do not feel like they have been tacked on. Gunfights (on realistic difficulty) are unforgiving and just one misstep results in death, planning (and surveying the environment with your hacking abilities) is the key to survival. The car handling is really sluggish and takes some getting used to but you can live with it. Collateral damage is frowned upon which is a nice change as it forces you to act more like an actual vigilante and protector rather than half good-guy, half spree killer. The police are like wild dogs and will hunt you without restraint if you are caught doing something you shouldn't be which again forces you to plan your actions accordingly.

The sound design is not as rich as it could have been and is my main complaint. The city itself is a bit too 'quiet' and the level of noise pollution could have been ramped up. There is a pseudo-radio triggered when driving around which occasionally broadcasts news clips relevant to in-game events. Sadly, these news tidbits are completely forgettable. The music selection is absolute dick. There are around thirty songs and you can acquire more in-game by hacking them from the phones of NPCs, unfortunately most of the songs are just rubbish. To the best of my knowledge all the bands/artists are Chicago affiliates e.g. Elmore James and there is a modest amount of Chicago Blues in the roster along with a few nice 70s ballads. The amount of rap on the soundtrack is criminal. I have no problem with rap but the stuff on here is just no good and there is so much of it! The 'rock' selection is comprised of awful whine-core and even the inclusion of Smashing Pumpkins does not ease the pain as their contribution is dire. It is representative of modern radio I guess, loads of stations but nowhere worth getting off. Clearly though Ubi just went cheap on the music licensing and opted to go for an affordable set of songs instead of a set of good ones. The online invasion mode built into the SP can be thrilling/infuriating and changes the dynamic of the game in a unique and engrossing way.

Facial animations are very bland and the daytime portions of the game are graphically the most boring. Most days are overcast so the colours are often drab. Evening/nighttime and during thunderstorms the game looks best.

I have to deduct two points for the abysmal bargain-bin song selection (it really does cheapen the experience) and lacklustre sound design.

He came back and told me how good the game would be. So, we purchased PS4 the moment it released and waited for the game. Sadly it is not exactly what I expect. But make no mistake, the game is good, or at least OK on next gen console. I will go through my feelings about it.
Graphics: If this game was only available on last gen console, I will applaud for its graphics. Especially the lighting effects are very attractive. I believe that most people would agree that the city looks better at dawn or in mid-night. When comes bad weather, it is also phenomenal. Not just raining effect, but also true storm feelings.
So what are bads for graphics?
    1. Details are not as we expected. Facial motions, damage, etc.
    2. Even though lighting effects or partical effects are good, the HORRIBLE optimization ruined this game. These effects are good, but are they so good that PS4 can only play it in 900p? If you check PS3 version, you will notice that fps drops dramatically every time when you turn around your visions in the game. Pay attention to the background environment, they don't even vertically lined up.
    3. For PC, I don't want to comment. The recommend system setting is an evidence of bad optimization. Sandbox games are cpu killers, but for graphic cards, you usually do not expect them to be this high level (FPS games do on the other hand).

Gaming experience: since we haven't done online part yet, I will leave it behind and only comment on the single player part. Again, like GTA V, Watch Dogs has the fundamental elements you expected for sandbox games. They are functional, and some aspects like chasing part are better than GTA V. I always find that GTA V has some weird running ways that sometimes make me laugh. In Watch Dogs, it is much better, and very cinematic. I guess most people, who do not satisfied what the game offering, are just like me, who find this game somehow boring. I think the problem is because of the hacking system. The hacking system is a brilliant idea, but maybe because of first time attempt, it executes in a wrong way. What I expect is that the system is not only a police-fooling toy, but also a way to interact with the city and all NPCs. Apparently, this is not the case in the game. You can hack bystanders' bank account, but the thing you can do are limited, not even could you decide how much money you want to withdraw. You can also find personal information about strangers, but so what? It won't affect the way you solve those missions. Believe me, every time ends up with a chase and ass-kicking. When those information being just messages instead of intels or tools to solve a puzzle, what is the fun of hacking? If not hacking, then why am I purchasing this game instead of playing a classical masterpiece like GTA V?
Again, this is just a review from a somehow disappointed gamer. I like this franchise and the idea behind it. But Ubisoft really need more time to get out of the shadow of GTA V and build a new world that people want to hack into.

I could have dealt with that if the missions didn't force me into a linear play style. In certain scenarios you MUST knock your opponents out rather than shoot them down. That alone killed the immersion for me. The main character can massacre an entire gang yet he must knock out 2 of those gang members without good reason. If you're gonna be batman you gotta be batman all the way. Batman doesn't kill 100s of people and knock out a couple random dudes. It just doesn't work.

Amazing promises for a nice game.
The game isn't revolutionary as Ubisoft promised us, but it still a great game. The dissapointing came from the false marketing which showed amazing graphics and a live and bright Chicago. Actually, the game just have fine graphics and a superficial chicago. The point of this game is the multiplayer..

Even though by 3, people were still buying the game, despite the awful forced stealth missions, horribly underdeveloped characters and story, terrible dialogue and most of all, repetitive missions. People still bought it and said "wow best game ever." Watch_Dogs is Ubisoft's way of molesting their customers, except it's more like date rape because they all agreed to it, including me.

First off, the main character is a cardboard cut out of any third person action game. He's boring and at times unbearably tiring. This character's design is almost exactly the same as an Assassin from the later Assassin's Creed games. Moving onto missions, the prospect of hacking becomes old quite quick as missions degrade into go here, hack that, do some running, or sneak. He game claims to have a busy open world, by busy it means terrible AI and the same one man trying to mug a lady 100 times over. Random events don't become random after about half an hour because they're all the same and it's more fun to try and avoid getting involved.

Hacking something is quite interesting he first time, although, becomes quite ordinary after the tenth time. You're limited to hacking only a number of special highlighted objects in the world. In the end I wasted money on this, you don't have to as well.

The game itself plays a lot like a GTA game - the controls feel familiar and the game responds the way you'd expect a game in this genre to respond... no surprises, just a clean, predictable control scheme.

Driving DOES feel a little bit off, and I find myself ping-ponging back and forth in narrow alleys and running over a LOT more people than I mean to. I also have a tendency to over-steer, and trying to pay attention to the UI (map, hacks, weapon selection, prompts) makes it hard to stay on the road - maybe it's intended as a life lesson (don't text and drive!), but it makes for a sometimes frustrating driving experience. Using the GPS system helps, and I suspect that once I learn the city better I will be running over fewer innocent bystanders. I think the key to driving in Watch Dogs is to slow down and plan ahead - it will be rare to simply outrun the cops so don't even try... use your hacks and stop their pursuit instead.

Story seems a little bland so far, but maybe it will pick up later. If not, it's still an engaging open-world experience worthy of an 8 in my book.

    -Scripted event.
This game is really SCRIPTED ex: you doing a mission ( and like me you like to play stealthy) so you look around and find a ZOMG way to finish the mission like a boss : black out (destroy a transformer) and run (nobody seen you), you leave the red circle so it should be DONE... NO, 5 cars pop out of nowhere and charge you, you try to escape them, 2 thing can happen:
-1 They chase you like they know where you are (you constantly break line of sight but they keep finding you no matter what).
-2 You manage to almost escape then new car pop in the map and go straight for you.

    -Control.
I had a hard time aiming at the enemy in a gun fight but the enemy never miss and kill you in like 3-4 second at normal... (coming from a guy that completed bf4 at hard with gold medal everywhere). Sometime you are behind cover and you try to neutralize an enemy, well the button to neutralize enemy is the same button that break cover end up dead. It is really hard to drive in this game.

    -Stealth.
They said that you could do mission the way YOU want in this game... NOT TRUE. The stealth aspect get destroy by the scripted event. So if you are like me try to be stealthy hacker to avoid gun fight, you end up dying and start over REALLY often and even when you succeed you will really often find yourself facing a scripted event (car popping out of nowhere, chasing you).

    -Story.
It fail to captivate: you have to go somewhere (often very far away from where you are) then cut scene (somewhat good but not really appealing) rinse and repeat. Some event doesn't even make any sense at all, I don't want to spoil anything but sometime I was like (NO WAY SOMEONE CAN DO THIS KIND OF THING).

I'm 20 hours or so into the game and so far the most fun thing I have done was the Spider-tank mini game. Sorry for my spelling, English isn't my native language.

    The bad:
So far its nothing but camera angle, control scheme, AI, and driving hell. Every time you get into a car music is on annoyingly loud, it also doesn’t recall the camera mode you had it in. Driving the car is next to impossible, the Q button is used to hack when driving so you have to take your hand off the A button on a already impossible to control car. If you’re in a building and your next to a door pulling your gun this is meet with a wall or a horrid camera angle, so that you can’t see what your shooting at. In one mission your attack a heavily armed gang, if the police are called they completely ignore the heavily armed gunmen, hop over or on a wall, and shoot you in the face. This is an extremely bad game so far and not something I expected out of Ubisoft.

    The ugly:
Along with the above, I don’t like to be lied too. This game doesn’t have any of the stuff we saw at E3 even with my PC maxing out the settings with a R9 295. This game is not what it was marketed as, a next gen game. It’s missing all the stuff it was supposed to have. Now, I looked at it as a last gen game with stating good graphics but as a next gen I expected much more. Never over market your game Ubisoft I’m disappointed.

I find the hacking to be fun and a nice option over running and gunning to complete missions. I have completed entire missions without even entering the area by simply hacking.

It looks to me many of the negative reviews are by those who just don't like Ubisoft to begin with. It might help if people stopped comparing it to GTA5 or Assassin's Creed as this is it's own game.

The graphics are good but not great, the hacking while simplistic puts a nice twist on gaining money and information as well as alternate ways to complete missions. The descriptions that pop up during facial recognition get repetitive but what do you expect with such a large in game population? Random encounters are frequent and can be a nice distraction from the main story line adding length to the game. Yes, the story is generic but still engaging.

At the end of the day I would recommend buying this.

The basic preface of the game is your some sort of hacker, think of him as batman with a cell phone. You were doing a job, and somehow they traced it back to you, they hurt your family and now your looking for revenge. Which is fine, but you know now the most original story.

The biggest flaw in this game to me the inability tho drive and shoot at the same time. This feature was removed for some reason, This should be in the game, it makes absolutely no sense logically why you can't shoot and drive at the the time.

There is very minimal blood, It disappoints me because it was supposed to be the Next Gen Console. Total disappointment.

The game punishes you it seems, when you "accidentally." kill a civilian when driving. OK Seriously Ubisoft?

In short this game could of been a contender to beat GTA 5, but in sooooo many times it falls short, because of bad decision making by the developers. You can't even beat up the civilians walking around with a melee attack. Why not Ubisoft? Are you trying to go for that teen rating? I feel the game we got was completely censored, and it breaks the immersion time after time again.

The city is very atmospheric - with a good set of speakers/headphones you can be totally sucked in, just like I used to be with GTA 4. Compared to GTA 5, the map is definitely smaller but there are more details within the space that exists, and where GTA 5 felt super open and kind of harmless, every corner of Watch Dogs' Chicago feels tight, unique and hostile.

The profiler (phone hacking tool) is incredible, not for its concept but for its implementation and its development. You can not only see a tidbit of who the people are about you, but you can listen in on conversations, download the music they're listening to for your own enjoyment in-car, and deplete their bank accounts for your usage. In the world, you can burst drain pipes, force street lights to change, and control the city in other various ways. The city feels alive when you play it, and you feel in control.

That said, it is challenging. The police are tough. The missions (so far) feel very fair and balanced - stealth is definitely the most challenging way to play but also the most rewarding.

There are some flaws, the most notable being the car physics. It's weird, and not predictable. After a while you start getting used to it, and there's a clear variation between different cars within this physics system (which is commendable), but the system itself is weird. With practice, you could get used to it. Also Aiden Pearce, our protagonist, is completely devoid of any personality so far, which is a shame given the events in the story that have transpired so far. Luckily, the two side characters that he has interacted with so far are full personalities.

The most obvious game to compare this to is GTA 5. However, this feels far more cinematic and has its own narrative. I would perhaps compare this more to GTA 4. More intimate settings and a single protagonist. So far, it matches up unbelievably well. The fact that I'm even comparing it to GTA 4 and 5 is praise enough to just how good this game is.

I can't wait to play more.

Overall WD is a fun game. But despite its hype it isn’t an “open world” game. It’s a railroad shooter with some fun hacking thrown in and a big map. You can’t just walk into stores and steal or buy stuff. Most doors won’t open for you. And usually there’s only one way to complete objectives.

On the PC, the controls (especially for vehicles) are problematic. This is another game that was designed for consoles and the PC thrown in. That’s very clear, even from the start. Driving can be seriously frustrating. Example: the acceleration key (W); press it and the car floors forward. There is no speed control. Which makes turning at any speed, hard. No smooth driving at all. You will crash. A lot. Lucky for you the cars can take a serious beating. Oh and a tip: need to get away from any chase? Swim. Jump in the lake. About half way across whoever is chasing you will loose you. And that brings up the AI.

The AI is poor. Jumping in the lake is a good example. And it’s easy peasy to evade the cops. Cause, well they are stupid. Also random people in the streets will run just at the sight of you. Various things like that. This doesn’t make the game un-enjoyable just something I noticed.

Now you know, I wouldn’t mind the terrible driving controls that much if I wasn’t forced to drive. Certain missions require you to drive. Just like certain missions require you to stay in stealth. IMHO that is not an open world game. The objective should matter not how you got there. When evading, I should be able to duck into an apartment and try to hide (assuming I can deal with whoever is in the apartment). I mean, why can’t I take a train to evade cops (or whoever is chasing me)?

Anyway things like the above bother me. The devs promised much. I’d say they delivered about 2/3 of what they promised. I suppose all developers do that.

One thing I must mention – the graphics, while good, DO NOT look anything like the various E3 trailers (or trailers on the net. Not at all. I almost feel like I fell for a bait-n-switch. But I didn’t buy this game for the graphics. But I understand why certain folk are pissed about this. They should be.

One last thing – the story: it reminds me of ME3 - where the devs are obviously trying to force certain emotions on you. Since I never had a chance to even meet “the niece” I didn’t care about her. The forced dreams aren’t going to force me to care: [Guy robs people. Guy gets hacked. A hit gets ordered. Guy driving his niece later that evening. Gets attacked (the hit). Niece does.] And here you are. Out for revenge. Of course, it doesn’t matter that the hit was order because you were doing something you shouldn’t. It doesn’t matter that your niece dying is your fault. Actually that does matter. I haven’t finished the game, but I know enough of what went down that the later does matter; just not that enough for me to care.

But there are so many side missions that it’s easy to forget the main story. While I like the story, it’s standard shooter style, the side missions are what make this game.

In closing, overall the game is fun. Worth the $60 bucks I laid out? No. Worth $40 (in 3 months), YES.

Travel in an open-world game like this should not be an unpleasant chore. The gun play is flat like the driving. On foot the controls seem more refined and your guy walks around with decent animations, and can climbs and run around convincingly. In general, the story missions and side missions just aren't fun, and I don't feel the player agency I get in games like GTA V.

Story: I hate the story, the characters, even the stupid cap/over coat outfit that is your only wardrobe choice. I remember people complaining about the characters in GTA V (not because they were boring , flat or not fleshed out but because they found Trevor repugnant) I wonder how these people will feel about watch Dogs protagonist Aiden Something or Another? I'll take interesting but unlikeable over the Watch Dogs guy any day.

Graphics and Sound: Other than the fact that Watch Dogs runs at a higher resolution there's not a thing that visually exceeds what's been accomplished with GTA V on last-gen consoles. I saw reviewers mentioning the water effects. They aren't on par with GTA V's water. Also the music sucks, but the ambient city sounds make up for this. The playlist approach to music gives you no context for the city as a character (like GTA V!) so again, one more thing that makes the game feel flat and uninspired.

Watchdogs is not a bad game by all means but it is definitely not a massive innovation in sandbox games. All though the hacking is a good idea the hacking is really not that good mainly because most the stuff you hack do lackluster things. The side missions are pretty boring apart from the virtual trips but once you've finished the trips there just repetitive and don't last long. And as far as the multiplayer goes its a good little gimmick but it wont keep me playing watchdogs.

so overall i think its a ok game but nothing special.

Its an alright game to putz around in, the de-optimization hit it took really made the games visuals look grim. With the standard (GTA) still fresh in our minds and the hype that this game commanded, I think it falls short in most respects.

I give a 9 out of 10. The world is beautiful, dense and feels real. Every AI has his own identity which I find amazing to see. Hacking is nicely integrated in the game. So overall it's a game you should buy certainly on next-gen.

    What a disappointment.

The graphics are above average but not nearly what we expect in next-gen. The gameplay is repetitive and ridiculous. There is no way to physically engage pedestrians to cause mayhem. Either hit them with your car (assuming they don't magically dive out of the way) or start a gunfight which ruins the fun anyways. The vehicle handling is a joke. The cop abilities

The cop abilities and response time and the entire chase sequences are complete failures. The hacking feature is silly - there is an object, hit the button and it will magically be hacked and will do one specific thing for you. Tada! The characters are completely forgettable.

This game is best described as Assassins Creed without the heart and soul put into it.

No, all these features are better in GTA V. Is it as fun as GTA V? Yes. This is Ubisoft's first foray into a modern open world on the scale of GTA IV / V and it's an admirable first step. The gun controls could be tighter - the game should have an auto-aim system with soft lock-on as with GTA V, but the existing controls are certainly decent, and when bullet time is enabled it does auto-lock onto heads when you aim close to them. The car controls are a let down but nowhere near as bad as some reviews claim; the first car you drive in the game at the end of the beginning tutorial sequence drives horribly, but immediately afterwards you can "call in" a car of your choice, and most handle much better. High-speed car chases require you to brake a bit instead of drifting round corners due to the heavy vehicle handling, but that's fine once you accept it's necessary. The joy of this game comes from the still-very-capable gunplay, gameplay, hacking, and a world as alive as GTA's - maybe not quite as many intriguing landmarks, but awesomely detailed, great people animations, and tons of mini-games and sidequests. The hacking is a brilliant mechanism: jump from camera to camera hacking people/devices along the way, jump to a security guard's helmet camera and see what he's seeing, wait for him to inspect a control panel then hack it to explode it and take him out. Very cool. All in all this game is brilliant fun, has loads of content, and is worth your money despite its gun/car play inferiority to GTA V. Expand

The following year at e3 2013 they showed the game again - this time it looked a little off from the previous year in terms of visuals, but this was (we were told) because it was running on the PS4 (or at least a PC with the same specs), it still looked good so i wasnt too concerned. Anyway come launch day May 27th, i went to my local game store and picked up the game, got home and started to play...

Initialy the game looked ok at the start, being night time and raining created a nice atmosphere and some pretty looking visuals, not e3 pretty, but nice all the same. But my impression of the game quickly changed when i saw the day time, lets not beat around the bush - it looked bad, in fact i have seen better looking last gen games that this. The lighting during the daytime is awful, its bland, dull and washed out, with very soft shadows that lack any real definition, the who lighting system lacks contrast, nothing stands out, instead it all just blends together in a drab mash of grey and beige. In my opinion GTA V looks more next gen...

Some objects look ok, things like trees look ok although they are nothing special and look like they would be right at home in the console version of skyrim, they lack any self shadows which can make them look a bit flat. Colors in the game are muted and washed out. Character models are probably the best looking things in the game, but while they are not bad, they are also nothing to write home about either - also some NPCs can look like they are glowing, especially in shadowed areas.

For the most part buidings look fine, even if they do look slightly last gen, although some buildings just look down right bad, they look very flat, especially in the distance where they look like upscaled PS2 buildings.

Textures are boring, flat, drab and lifeless with not real definition at all, most of them being the exact same shades of grey and beige, and it looks like ubisoft just copied and pasted these all over the game.

Car models are OK, but ive seen much better. They look very last gen, and the textures on the cars is rather dull.

Driving in this game is among the worst ive ever encountered in a game, with cars being both very twitchy AND unresonsive and heavy at the same time (dont know how they did that), to give you some idea of how bad it really is - try to imagine driving a car both underwater and on ice at the same time, then you will have some idea of how bad the driving physics are. Cars can also feel like they are floating at times - speaking of floating, i have actually seen some vehicles that do for a brief time float a couple of inches off the road, before quickly falling down again to the roads surface... Also the slightest press on the accelerator sends to car to full throttle with tires screaching, its very difficult to move at anything other that flat out in this game. Car damage is terrible - for example, you can smash into a group of cars at full speed, hitting them with such force that they burst into flames, yet your car can be completely undamaged - no im not joking. Everytime you hit something you will see sparks and bits of glass and debris flying everywhere, but a quick check shows you have received absolutely NO damage to your car what so ever.

But i hear you cry - its not all about the visuals... and yes you are right - so how is the story and gameplay? Well the story is not great either, it is very cliché and is one of revenge. The main character Aiden Pearce is unrelatable and boring, you certainly wont feel anything for him at all, his voice also becomes very irritating after a while. The hacking at first feels fresh and new, but quickly gets old once the novelty wears off. Missions feel very repetitive, having you do the same things over and over again, sort of assassins creed style. Some of the games characters can be interesting and humourous, certainly more interesting than Aiden... The main story will take about 30hrs to complete, after that there are plenty of side missions and minigames to do - although these feel more like padding just to bult up the game.

I havnt the multiplayer so cannot really comment on it, but ive heard that its similar to GTA Online which i have played and found a bit boring.

In summary this game is completely over hyped and over rated - possibly the most overhyped/ rated game in recent history. Having just paid full price for this, i am completely disappointed in it. If you havnt bought the game yet or are not sure what to do - take my advice, spend your money elsewhere, it will save to the disappointment.

It isn't... unless you're someone who considers the fact that it's open-world and features humans as the main characters enough to make a game a "clone", in which case you shouldn't be writing reviews at all.

I will admit that Watch Dogs falls short in many areas where GTA V delivered (radio stations, car selection, character customization, etc), but that's all I'll say on the comparison.

Yes, the graphics are very mediocre for next-gen. However, as I think many of us can agree, it takes more than graphical superiority to make a great game. It helps, of course, but the beauty of Second Son couldn't overshadow the mediocre plot and the hollow shell of a city (much as it was baffling-ly detailed) (and don't get me wrong, it was worth playing and an absolute blast). Being great requires a combination of things, and this obsession with "it's next-gen so it needs to look amazing right now" really needs to chill out. Compare a PS3 launch title with The Last of Us or GTA V and get back to me.

Yes, this game was over-hyped and marketed to be an absolute game-changer, and really, it doesn't live up to any of that. It was delayed for several months, so I think many of us took that as "well gee that must mean it's going to be REALLY good!" and the hype only grew. This game is not a good enough reason to buy a next-gen console if you don't already have one, in my opinion. I think it's a wonderfully enjoyable game and if people can expand their minds a bit and try to embrace the stealth emphasis they'd have even more fun with it, but this game is nothing ground-breaking. It has some fun tricks (and they ARE fun) and some great voice acting (Aiden, not so much, but the others are fantastic), but this is not a game that will raise the bar any higher than it already was before it was launched.

I pre-ordered Watch Dogs so long ago it was shipped to the wrong address. I was looking forward to it as much as The Last of Us and GTA V and Bioshock Infinite and Second Son and Dark Souls 2, but I am not disappointed with it. I could gripe about how Ubisoft tricked us into thinking it had better graphics (*cough*Dark Souls 2*cough*) when really it looks like it could have been achieved on a PS3, or how it was over-hyped, but really that last one seems to be the key issue being had here with all the negative reviews.

Ubisoft prepared us for a 10, so to see that in reality it's just an 8, we're all crushed. I know that I for one considered returning my copy after seeing the reviews (I'm still thoroughly enjoying Dark Souls 2) until that dawned on me. It was supposed to be "phenomenal", but in reality it's just "pretty good". It was supposed to be the reason to own a next-gen console, and it isn't.

Paul Tassi at Forbes does a good job at saying this:

"It’s a tough situation for developers. You want your fans to think you’re bringing them the moon with a new game, but with those sorts of lofty promises, you sometimes oversell your own product. When played in a vacuum, Watch Dogs is a very good sandbox game. But as it exists in this world where it’s meant to be an earth-shattering original IP and the birth of a new uber-franchise, it comes up short in many noticeable areas. It can often feel more derivative than innovative, despite its array of new hacking toys, and may disappoint some expecting more than it delivers."

Watch Dogs is an incredibly deep game. I've played about 20 hours so far and have played far enough into the story to get a little feel for it, but barely scratched it because there is always a distraction to take you away from the main story in Chicago. The first night I had Watch Dogs I wandered across a Coffee Shop with a chess game that was set up as puzzles to take the opponents men out in 14 moves or less (basically taking a chess piece out every move). I figured the first three puzzles out fairly quickly. Then ran into trouble with the fourth one. My solution? Grab my chess board and set it up in front of me and work through the puzzle in front of me on my board. I spent 10 hours doing this solving 10 chess puzzles. Did it get me much in the game? Nope. Just some XP, completion points, and the satisfactory feeling of solving them. My point is this: The game successfully drew me away from the main story for 10 solid hours perfectly solving 10 silly chess puzzles. There all sorts of stuff like this in the game. And, for the MP in you, there is a little MP aspect with online hacking. Its a small diversion but its there for you, if that's your bag. And you're rewarded in Notoriety Skill points for completing these tasks, which helps you in the game.

Watch Dogs, by far, isn't perfect. It's not Pulitzer Prize writing. I don't expect that from my games though. If you are looking for a very very solid game that will give you a great story with a great time sink in diversions while you are waiting for "Name your game here" in August (or later), then Watch Dogs will give you easily a 100 hours of gaming. Watch Dogs is everything a game should be. It is fun. It isn't tedious, and after you've been playing you wonder how the hell 2 or 3 hours could've gone that far. For the money you will spend, you will be justly rewarded, plus some.

I HIGHLY suggest getting this as a buy.

I did not found bugs that influenced the gameplay really much. I find it entertaining and the way they managed the hacking is well done. All in all it's a great game. For me probably even the GOTY!

Story: Good, nothing new or amazingly entertaining. Revenge story thats mostly killing and stealthing and following, so. Normal stuff

Side missions: Where the game shines. There are a lot of different things to do Hacking: A little gimmicky and not fully explored. Mostly simple tap a button "this is why our game is different" stuff. Nothing incredible Performance: Smooth until you

Performance: Smooth until you drive anything (its the same on pc, so its probably that the engine wasn't built for speed)

Graphics: Not great, wasn't expecting it to beat second son tho, but considering how it looks, its hard to see why it couldn't be 1080p, especial when other, better looking games are on the PS4.

Overall. Its a little over hyped and under-polished. It seems rushed, but not broken and playes like Assassins Creed or Far Cry, so like any other Ubisoft game. A little disappointing that it IS NOT A NEXT GEN EXPERIENCE like ubisoft promised (Although its on PS3, so it cannot be next gen by default). I regret not saving $20 and getting it on PS3 as the graphics are similar and gameplay is identical, or even rather just replaying GTAV and saving some cash.

Its not amazing, it looks mediocre unless its a rainy night and the story can be boring. But a tleast its long and not broken.

Watch Dogs is a fun open world experience. However, the repetitive chases and the formulaic gameplay tend to get tedious and boring after a while. As such, you might want to enjoy the different multiplayer experiences and take frequent breaks to just roam around the city.

It’s a bold first step on the new terrain for Ubisoft. The game is enjoyable, offers some interesting mechanics and lasts for long enough, but is bland as a whole. The characters lack personalities, the city could use more distinctness and the story is instantly forgettable. [07/2014, p.46]

Overall, it is almost without a doubt the best platformer that has popped up on the current generation of consoles and is a bedrock on which Ubisoft could build a brand to remember.
