I give Watch Dogs a score of 8 out of 10. This review is for the Playstation 4 version. The game is very fun. The end of Act 2 is extremely disturbing though and I really wish I had been given the option to skip that mission. Overall, the story left me satisfied. The game is fun and the city is great for exploring, but you can't go inside many buildings. That is why I rate it an 8 instead of 9.5. They could have at least let you ride an elevator to the observation deck of the Willis Tower, but no. You are pretty much stuck to being outside on this. They also don't have the Navy Pier that is such an icon in Chicago. If they had included things like that then this would have been one of my favorite games. This game was good, but it falls well short of being great. Still, it is well worth $60. The other complaint I have is that the driving could have been better. Other then that it is really is a fun game with all the hacking. The last thing I will say is that looking at the skyline at night time on this game is absolutely breath-taking! Expand

This game has lied to me. I don't know if I just got the wrong game, but there was some weird smartphone/hacking stuff going on. All I wanted to do was watch dogs! There aren't any dogs to watch so 0/10.

Some parts are frustrating beyond belief (no, not because they're hard, I'm not afraid of a challenge as long as it's fair). Having to chase a guy in a sports car through busy Chicago streets when the only vehicle they give you is an old station wagon isn't fair. It's bland and boring and I was rooting for it to be over after about 2 hours. It's not awful, it's just offensive because it promised so much and delivered on so little. If you want a fun interesting single-player game, get Wolfenstein. Expand

Great game and a lot of fun. Didn't live up to the hype, but how many games do? Its a a fun open world game that isnt as generic as GTA but is still held back by being cross generation. Too bad it wasn't built only with the current gen consoles in mine. So much potential to build on for the future

It's nice to see how polarized the critics are on that game. Either you like or you don't. I stand right in the middle, where after ~20 hours of gameplay, I'm not sure what to think of that game.

I've never been a fan of Ubisoft, for their habit to milk the s*%t out of a franchise and force it down your throat (just like Activision is doing, however they got MP right!). Watch Dogs seems to be another attempt at pushing something down your throat, something you already experienced somewhere in other Ubi games and that they tried to hide (Ubi is found of their towers and unlocking them to reveal the map...)

For a start, this is not a next gen game. Especially after playing Second Son or Kill Zone. This game doesn't look better than The Last of Us or GTA V but on par. TLOU and GTAV were on last gen console by the way. There is a tremendous let down compared to what they showed at E3 2 years ago.

While the game might have been delayed because of GTA V, I don't see why it took so long to release something that looks unfinished: the free running missions, digital trips and NVZM missions look like they're patched over the game, for no reasons at all. While other side missions are part of the game and fall into the flow of the game, some others seem like a botched attempt at adding content.

The game aslo suffers of the "Skyrim" syndrome, where you can just go everywhere and do what you want, without guidance and boundaries. Right out of the box, you get thrown in there with no real incentive to do the main quest. On top of that, side quests keeps poping in you HUD, like they're trying to convince you to do other stuff than the main quest. By the time I was at the 3rd mission of act one, I already had unlocked 7 guns, without shooting anything or anyone. You get rewards for side quests, that aren't relevant to the main quest, therefor overpowering you quickly.

Ubisoft has the tendency to throw tips and help at your face when you start to play a game. However, instead of making short and concise, they give you a whole freakin paragraph, that you need to read, while getting shot at, hacked, hanged by the balls and raped... Just to learn how to run... Either show me how to play slowly, or give me quick tips, with concise sentences : "Press R2 to run", "Hold O to jump over obstacles", etc.

There is one thing that I don't understand. While Ubisoft is know for milking their franchises, some of them got really good, like AC. Controls are spot on in AC. So I don't understand why they decided to remap the whole controller with new controls instead of using those from AC. They might claim that it's a new game and they don't want us to associate it with other games they made, but we know you Ubi, so why pretend when we know that most of Watch Dogs mechanics come from other games?

The main story is fun, secondary characters are well written and interesting. Online is new and fresh, but often bring bugs into the game when you leave a MP match.

Controls are clunky, driving is bad (like driving a Zamboni with a Turbo), side quests are irrelevant and badly implemented, HUD is overcrowded with info. Can't shoot while driving and hitting the car doesn't affect it much, though the AI is pretty dumb when you race a NPC.

Watch Dogs is awfully standard at best. Far from next gen, this game isn't worth 69.99 CAD. Then again, when there is nothing to play on PS4 you might think about getting it. If I were to get the game again, I would wait for a price cut. This is not GOTY material: scale isn't everything... Ask Arkham Asylum ;)

Police chases in gta5 consist of driving from the cops as fast as possible. Police chases in watch dogs consist of setting off steam pipes, causing traffic jams with traffic lights, causing rising bridges, road blockers, opening garage doors for short cuts, and others. All done with a press of a button. Like a combination of the games split/second and ridge racer.

This is just one example. How about the great stealth mechanics? Hacking citizens/citizen profiling? Massive skill tree? Huge arcade minigames at the push of a button? Not to mention great graphics and sound.

I've played it for a week and I'm already calling it one of the best games ever made; I can't put it down. Calling it 'just gta5' is so uninformed that it makes me wonder if the people saying it have ever even played a single videogame at all (however, gta5 is a great game in it's own right). This will be remembered as one of the best games this generation.

So people give this a 0/10 because it didn't have as much smoke and lighting effects as it did at e3? I have played this game for 6 days straight and I'm loving it. I would give this game a 8.5/10 but I will put 10 on here because of the 0/10 trolls.

This review is based on my own experience and does not intend to insult other reviewers or their opinions.

Graphics – Personally the graphics within the Watch-Dogs universe vary, sometimes you will look at the beautiful landscapes and be blown away by the detail, other times you will notice that after a very bad crash in your car it is left unmarked and the headlights still operational therefore destroying the illusion of the game, the rain effects are especially nice, the puddles and the effects of it soaking our hero Aiden Pierce are very impressive though once again there are downsides to this, you will notice how the rain effects our main character but those around him seem to be shielded from it once again shattering the illusion. The hair of the characters also don’t come across as I would imagine in next gen, they reminded me of Final Fantasy, blocked and clumped together. I suppose this can all be saved by the beautiful landscapes of the high tech Chicago, it is very impressive and exceeds what GTA5 done by far.

Characters – The characters can be the biggest downfall within this game, they are very solid and though the story is based on Aiden and his family you don’t really find yourself caring about them, Aiden himself tries to crack a few emotional moments and jokes to lighten the mood but it all falls on deaf ears. The main thing that bugged me were the phone conversations between Aiden, his sister and his old mentor, during the conversations you wouldn’t believe that it was a kidnapping, once again you find yourself moaning at the screen for them to shut up and move on.

Story – The story itself I can only speak on behalf of half of it, I am only up to Act 3 and though that may seem silly, reviewing a game I have not yet completed the fact I have got to Act 3 and still do not feel compelled to unravel it further says a great deal in terms of storyline and progression. The story has potential to be amazing but falls flat, feels very repetitive and forced, scattered would be the best word for it.

Result – Personally I found that looking forward to it for nearly a year and a half and expecting a truly beautiful and story packed game to highlight exactly what a next gen console could do wrecked the actual result, my expectations were too high, It reminded me of the films that have trailers better than the film itself. Everything seemed to fall flat for me on this title, though it is good to play on to pass an hour or so while bored it is not the game that had me glued to the TV from dusk until dawn.

The short version: Anyone saying that Ubisoft vastly under-delivered on what they promised is telling you the truth.

Everything else you need to know: The engine and the framework of the game is perfectly fun, but the entire experience is washed over by the insultingly bad writing and character development. By the end of the play through you start to realize that there are entire sections of game that you expected by watching all of the previews and yet never got to experience.

The Joseph DeMarco scene could specifically be called out as a prime example of what the Ubisoft team promised, however, that scene was almost entirely cut out and what was left was hastily re-used and written over for some completely left-field mouse character that holds zero relevance to the plot and serves only to distract and confuse the entire story.

A pure example of flimsy character development would be Aiden Pearce's original motivation, which is to pursue someone in anger after they made threats about a family member. Aiden Pearce's first move, then, is instantly to threaten that character's family members without ever caring that that was the very kind of action that had driven him to action in the first place.

The other characters are reduced to worn out stereotypes and tropes, and the Ubisoft team was apparently not afraid to seem racist or sexist in their characters. I can only count one female character who isn't brutalized by violence, and she is in the game for maybe 60 seconds. She's supposed to be a psychiatrist, but she's used only as a babysitter. There are zero black or otherwise non-white characters who aren't portrayed as uneducated violent thugs.

In the end this game boils down to the hardcore repressed teenage white male power fantasies that Hollywood has been shamelessly spitting out for ages. At the end of the game all of the heroes are white and all of the women and minorities are dead or forgotten.

Also I'm apparently supposed to be angry about the reduced graphics quality, but all in all that seems like the smallest broken promise from Ubisoft.

I was unsure about watch dogs for the first couple of hours, but once you get accustomed to the systems in the game it becomes fantastic. Great stealth mechanics and a fantastically realised open world - it's like a hybrid of splinter cell, assassins creed and gta. Hacking and tracking other players is great fun as well. Highly recommended.

There have been a few patches now and i have encountered no glitches, the game runs perfectly. The graphics are great even though they have been lowered since the initial game-play videos and the game-play itself is mostly fun. Although the driving is rubbish. The characters aren't that bad, but they aren't the best ever.

Just like the Assassins Creed games there is plenty of extra stuff to do other than the story and unlike the Assassins Creed games it's ALL fun to do, no stupid money chests or fragments for me.

Basically the game is fun, runs well, looks good, has a good soundtrack and has loads to do so it's worth the money. It's also different, the hacking mechanic is fun and it's hilarious mucking around distracting/blowing up enemies. The free running is also pretty cool

Doesn't get a 10 because the main character is unoriginal and the driving is pants. Having said that the driving can be mastered and therefore ignored and the character doesn't matter so much, when you are in such a great open world. Also you can check into famous Chicago land marks, learn about them and get gifts left by other players which is a genius idea.

    So yeah...buy it!

The graphics are good but do however suffer due to optimization on last gen consoles, hence the current gen versions to not take the full capacity of what this new generation has to offer.
The story so far is intriguing. From where I am in the game, it looks like its going to play out into something good and I can't wait to delve further into it after I complete a few more thing in the remaining districts.

So far I give it an 8. It is subject to change. The game isn't ground breaking, but still very fun and deserves the credit. Anything score lower than 4 or 5 is just inexcusable just as the reasoning to some low scores. This game could be the catalyst to a better game like the first Assassin's Creed was to the second game.

Some say yes, some say no, some people are still unsure, and others never cared in the first place! As far as I’m concerned the game is a total flop. Some things work, most don’t at all, and the issues are extremely distracting from the game.

First of all I don’t know what I was expecting, but I think I was expecting a little more than GTA V or Assassins Creed but with hacking. It feels like an older concept and I was really hoping for something fresh. The repetitiveness of missions gets old after about five hours. An endless cycle of car chase, sneak/hack aspect, and then another shootout; eventually it makes you want to rip your hair out. Don’t get me wrong the hacking is fun and cool to a point, but it just wasn’t enough to save this game. It’s countless other issues make it less enjoyable and more frustrating to be honest.

The voice acting isn’t great, but it’s far from terrible! A lot of the characters, mainly Jordi Chin, shine strong while others fall flat and add little to nothing to the story. Speaking of the story, it’s cool I guess but it feels forced and it frequently gets sidetracked! All in all this aspect of the game adds nothing and it may as well just been an open world hacking game.

Easily the most frustrating component of Watch Dogs is the online hacking, where other players can interrupt your story to hack you for points. It’s not that it’s difficult to deal with, but that you cannot progress with the campaign if somebody is hacking you. It detracts from the interest in the storyline, which is already boring enough on it’s own.

I wouldn’t say Watch Dogs is a bad game; it’s just barely mediocre. Certain aspects are positive; such as the driving that everybody seems to be complaining about but I love, some of the main characters are entertaining and well-acted, while the hacking eventually bores it is very cool and new, and it is truly visually stunning! Other components have ruined the game for me and that’s unfortunate because I was really looking forward to it for a while. So while I could not stand Watch Dogs, I see it’s appeal and encourage fans of GTA or AC to check it out. ShaunaOH gives Watch Dogs a 5/10!!

While that may be true for some people. I didn't even hear about this game until a couple months ago. The concept seemed cool, but it fell on its face, when i started playing it i quickly realized "this is GTA but lets just add environmental interaction through 'hacking' ". While some parts of the game are fun, not being able to shoot while driving, being forced to sneak around for some parts. I would recommend installing the game on your hard drive, because if you mess up a mission the loading times are irritating. The side missions are passable, most of them are not that fun, Most of the time you will mess up more than once and you have to learn the encounters(not what i'm looking for in a game like this). I only really like stopping the crimes. Some redeeming factors of the game that i like is the main story, it's actually intriguing. I like that you can hop the L-train and fast travel or just go for a ride to where you want to go if you're feeling leisurely. I also liked they way they introduced a form of PVP in the game with the mobile app to console play, it's fun but also sometimes can be unfair when another play is hacking you, It can be on the annoying side when you're about to start a mission then all of a sudden you get invaded out of nowhere (you should choose to PVP and not almost be forced to). It's a cool concept but, i think it needs some improvement Also one review i read said that it was a similar to how 'assassins creed 1' was, If this were remotely true i would have enjoyed it more. I was quickly bored with this game, other than the main story (I'll give Ubisoft that, they write some good stories for their games) Watch Dogs was not what i had expected the 'hacking" should be more prevalent and less of the guns and shoot em up aspects(it didn't really fit the main character to be a hacker but just be ok with shooting people, doesn't make sense to me), i had more fun playing Saints Row 3 and 4, Sleeping Dogs, and GTA V, Watch Dogs seemed to Hype up changing this genre of games but it fell flat to me. This is my first review, I actually created an account on metacritic just to review this game.

No clue why there are so many negatives on this game, I can only assume that many are by people that have not bought it and are pissed because they think it should be in 1080p at 60fps... let me tell you, that means nothing, or they are fanboys of the xbox just trying to bring the ratings down

Let me tell you, I am reviewing this without playing xbox version, I don't care, I am purely reviewing the GAME not the system.

The game looks great, there are a few minor flaws that any critic could point out, but in such a massively detailed game like this, that is going to happen. I bought this game Friday afternoon and wasted a perfectly beautiful weekend outside, because I was hooked to this game, so much so that I had a headache from staring at the TV too long haha.

Overall, I give it a 9.5/10. Really the only reason for that is it would have been nice to get some better music... and maybe I just haven't unlocked some songs that I like yet. Since I can't do 1/2 points i'll round up to a 10. Definitely one of the better games I have played on PS3 or PS4 so far. Reminds me a lot of Red Dead Redemption in the way you attack gang hideouts and such. If you want to compare it to GTA, I would say it is better, just because I for one start to lose interest in the GTA games, they seem much too repetitive, this one keeps your interest for longer.

As many have said, I don't understand any of the overly negative reviews. I've been having great fun with this on PS4. The graphics & lighting are great, the gameplay is intuitive with some of the best gun play and the driving once you get used to it is also a blast. Loads to do in the game. Personally wouldn't score this anything less than a 9.

I thought the characters were solid and good, and the graphics are nice but nothing groundbreaking. The map is huge and there are tons of things to explore, with many side missions to go with them which is a HUGE plus. The main problem for me was the driving which I though was needs a huge improvement, making car chases a lot more harder than it needs to be. The combat is smooth and there are a wide array of weaponry to use. Overall this game has it's flaws in some ways like any other game but this imo, is worth the 60 bucks. This game is sensational! I can't put my controller down. At first i thought this was going to be a GTA clone. but this is far from a stealing cars and robbing people. Your character holds dark secrets and exceptional hacking skills. The game technology needs getting used to but after an hours gameplay and its there. So far its the best PS4 game I own.

I see this as a good foundation as a ongoing series with some aspects that needs polishing. Graphics is good, not next gen but seeing as this is a cross-gen game i'm okay with that. Not that graphics matters that much versus game-play. Some game-play elements like effecting the game world gives this game a fresh new take at open worlds. The fun in causing mayhem by switching all streetlights to green or blowing up steam pipes at the right moment is priceless. The freedom in how to approach most missions is also a plus. You can either go all blazing or try a stealthy approach which is always my method. AI needs improvement but this is something most games needs and maybe we will see this further in this next generation. Other elements like the re-routing game-play when hacking could 've been more enjoyable then pressing X a bunch of times but the puzzle of how to unlock this game-play makes up for this. All in all it's a good game that deserves a 7 as minimum regardless of downgraded graphics or a more realistic car mechanics that is a bit more clunky then gamers are used to. I am giving this an 8 seeing as i've spent more then 15 hours of this game and is nowhere done with it. Expand

The main gameplay is rather simplistic and uniform. Run or drive around doing and mostly pressing Q to hack something, and occasionally shoot at something.
But it is strangely intriguing to escape the police by stopping a train, jumping in and drive on.
Also there's some stealth gameplay when taking out gangs and racing gameplay when driving challenges (although car handling is waaaay out the window and actually quick frustrating as your over civilians for penalty).
There's gameplay where you stop crime where it can be difficult to avoid detection (eagle eye NPCs) and then take down the culprit at the right time. So there's a good deal to do - but as said - most of the time it's rather uniform and ultimately simplistic.
It's also completely overpowered that you can almost instant hack from surveillance camera to camera and blow up bad guys that way - but I guess it would be difficult to make a proper stealth game when the theme is hacking.
Money in the game comes from just randomly hacking civilians back accounts and then going to an ATM - again - rather simplistic.
The story I've not advanced much but it is also a minor thing compared to the sandbox game.

I did get some sort of hacking mini-game when hacking a cTOS tower, but there wasn't much game in the mini-game as it was just pressing some nodes to allow a data flow.

I did try an on-line portion and this might be where the game shines a bit more. There are a number of missions where you either hack or prevent hacking from real life player enemies and some driving contests (which given the handling of the cars could be quite chaotic). Unfortunately I suck in this game and failed my first on-line mission terrible - so newbies might get run over by experienced players and that would kill the on-line part for newcomers and detract a lot from their experience - but I think the online part could be an addictive and different experience compared to so many other games. Especially if they expand a bit on the missions and make a few more non-combat missions.

All in all - the game is decent enough in smaller doses (I don't see myself playing 4 hours in a row) and does have a lot of qualities. But it is let down by simplicity which makes me wonder what they've actually spend all the time on.

The city is beautifully created - but as always with all these games. There's not much to do as most building are closed to you. A lot of civilians are rendered giving a nice populated feel to the city, but these moving objects are little other than ways to get cash.

For a game with the hacking theme I feel this game misses it mark and it could have been much more fleshed out instead of just pressing Q to hack traffic lights, Q to hack trains, Q to hack signs, Q to hack for money, Q to .... well, you get my drift. It could just as well be any theme game.

But all in all - it still is strangely fun, but it just falls short. It's definitely not a 9 or 10 game but neither is it a 0 or 1 game.
    7/10 from me so far.

Now if you are somewhat mature and can make decisions for yourself you might find this is the perfect game for you. It has a great story and the characters are actually likable. The city feels so alive with every npc having their own personality and reacting like someone would in real life. The game has great ai and the gameplay is fantastic with the hacking adding a whole new level of strategy. I also noticed unlike other open world games this one can be changing at times especially with the second to last mission and the mission "by any means necessary". As for people comparing this to gta just stop. Gta was a pretty big let down with everything except the story. The world was bland and they promised smart ai that would interact with you but that was a complete lie. Gta 5's ai was worse then the ai in gta 4 and the multiplayer is a mess and is still missing stuff they promised back in September of 2013. This game just like all other games has its flaws too. The two biggest being the driving and the world invasion and how it punishes for turning off the ability for people to invade you. This game feels solid and so far its the best next gen game that has come out in my opinion. This game deserves a better score then 6.3 and before you hate the game at least try it you might find that you really like or that you hate it and you just wasted 60 dollars but you'll never know unless you play it. The first thing I noticed when I launched WD was that cars does not behave like cars, they behave like horses, and I thought "Hey.. this just a reskin of Assassins Creed", So turn a second before you think you do or you're in for a crash; or twenty, every time you're going somewhere and don't forget about the otherworldly slides your car does after any turn. As your first observation that isn't really helpful when you want to enjoy a free roaming game.

It also has the same problem as AC with "rocks" and "other rocks that look exaclty the same as the first type of rock". Some rocks are fine to just run over, while some act as an invisible wall even though any human with legs could run over them in real life, and you can't get out of water unless there's something like a ladder or a ramp to get you out of it. At one point there was tires hung up on welding steel for boat hull protection at a dock where I had to go to hack a camera. Clearly an easy way up for any human in the world with arms, but not Aiden Pearce. So I had to swim to another dock to get a boat and THEN hack my way in from the deck of the boat, beacuse invisible walls prevented any attempts to walk onto the dock.

But enough of that, let us look at the game as a whole.

    Story:
...As the story goes on it gets better, I feel immersed, it's kinda funny and has some stellar dialogue. It has a lot of plot twists so it mixes things up. Maybe a bit too many twists but I can't complain really. But don't sit idle in the meny for to long because SPOILERS AHOY! stay too long and the coolest parts of ACT I is spoiled right before your eyes. (why would you do this, ubisoft?!!)

    PROGRESSION
As a comparison to AC4's progression; they did completely different now. If you do side missions and fluff in AC4 you get more powerful than the enemies in the Main Story Missions, but in WD they scale with you every step of the way. When I was in the early stages of ACT 2 I went up against componds of ONLY elite soldiers. ELITES. Are you **** kidding me? I can agree that they should be a bit harder when I have almost every weapon, vehicle, item, and skill unlocked, BUT it's still ACT 2 for **** sake. Someone who just likes exploring and is a casual/average gamer have no chance at that point.

    AI
The AI is decent but pretty **** wierd at times. People can see you through walls at times, which can be overlooked except for the fact that they also can shoot you through the wall. THE **** It isn't that bad really but can be frustrating when trying to be stealthy.

Convoys also appear a bit overhuman because they crash into civilian cars frequently but the second you nudge them a little they instantly scream "IT'S HIM" and try to kill you even though they should have no clue who the **** is driving that car. At one point I drove like a normal civilian in the opposite direction to get a better point of approach, and the car at the front of the convoy crammed between me and another car to get past a stop and as he nudged me on the side he instantly knew it was me in that car; making the convoy panic. WHAT. He ran into me for **** sake. I didn't do **** to show I was on the aggresion or anything.

Another point on how AI driving is how they say over the radio "I'm gonna ram him", and then never even try to ram me. I've never been rammed. They grace me a little on the side, sometimes trying to push me to the curb but thats it. Also, when I slow down, or they slow me down, they all stop and jump out of their cars even though I have made no intention of stopping. At least pin me down before abandoning your vehicles.

To test the spawning I ran up a tower like structure with one way in and out, just trying to have some fun shooting cars with The Destroyer (Sniper that can one-shot vehicles). The police was after me pretty soon and i just kept shooting their cars but they were too many and I didn't want to hurt my reputation too badly. They rushed me so I tried to make my escape upwards the structure where it should be clear because there's only one way up, and that's when I saw that the engine had spawned a couple cops behind me and I got shot to death.

There is not much for easing new players into this much anticipated world apart from a fairly simple opening narrative. This introduces a revenge theme where the brooding player character, Aidan Pierce, is searching for answers about the death of his young niece following a past hack that turned bad. Aidan with the help of some shady Dedsec (a sort of hackers anonymous) individuals go about getting to the bottom of why this family tragedy has befallen and why his family still remains in apparent danger.

Upon entering the free game world for the 1st time after the opening story sequence I was overloaded with a massive array of features in very vivid and lively Chicago. It’s not to say this is a bad thing, plenty of titles introduce players to new games with slow, unimaginative tutorials and introductions, while better games immerse players early on incorporating game features that players will need to master. Watchdogs doesn’t really do either instead the game drops the player in and says here’s everything we got, go nuts!

In fairness there are short tutorials for pretty much every activity and feature which are triggered as and when they are required as well as the player being able to access them anytime through the in game Smartphone. At first the sheer amount of information dropped at once seems overwhelming, with map icons for campaigns, side missions, collectibles, exploration, activities, investigations shopping and more. However after playing a little while it gets easier to process everything and develop a style of progression you’re comfortable with although this is frequently interrupted by constant remote alerts of crimes and criminals to stop. This can be a blessing and a curse, particularly for somewhat OCD gamers like myself that tend to leave no stone unturned.

As for the gameplay itself, it came as quite of a surprise how similar I found the set up to GTA titles. The level of openness is impressive and praise has to give to the level of detail gone in which really makes the city feel alive everywhere you go. I did expect however a bit more cohesion between the player’s story and the game world. We knew before release that the player would be some kind of technological vigilante super Assange, however where this suffers at first is there is no real effort in establishing a motive for the players’ activities. I’m still unsure if Aidan is a hacker turned vigilante, or a vigilante who happens to be a skilled hacker. Again, the narrative at the beginning doesn’t really attempt to reconcile the two so there’s no real purpose to why Aidan should be stopping organ traffickers and potential violent criminals and fraudsters (while at the same time ripping off ATM’s!) What is interesting is the natural Moral compass imbedded in the game using a fairly simple reputation system. Going on a GTA themed joyride and mowing down lines of civilians will severely damage your reputation and make the game much more difficult (and annoying) by increasing chances a citizen may call the police on you and trigger what I have found to be long and frequently difficult pursuits. It is possible however to jam a 911 call or just bully their mobile phone off them. Trust can always be earned though, and stopping street crimes (although fairly repetitive) increases your reputation particularly if non-lethal force is applied, on this note, taking out cops in Arnie, Terminator 2 style by shooting out their legs is also useful as your reputation decrease is less severe than going full on Arnie terminator 1.

The main selling point for watchdogs that separates it from other open world action games is the tech heavy focus. The players Smartphone is a powerful and enjoyable tool and the real time hacking features are unique to the world of gaming. Activating a profiling mode provides Aidan with general (and amusing) information on any citizen or enemy as well as potential access to their bank accounts or even music collections as well as detecting possible crimes and people/places of interest. Probably the most satisfying and engaging feature is Aidan’s ability to hack into the city’s CtOS network which controls everything from surveillance and electric grids, to street furniture and lockboxes. The dastardly smile on my face the first time I caused a super slow motion police car crash by changing the red lights must have been wider than the Chicago River. The usability of these features depends on if the city district the player is in has had its CtOS tower hacked in a somewhat assassins creed viewpoint unlock style. Some of these towers require parkour and puzzle solving to reach while others require stealth or straight up brutality to reach, Watch dogs does a great job of allowing the player to choose their own style for most situations, it is noted that the parkour features although simple are responsive and effective. Several hilarious decryptions are also available once you have successfully downloaded into some of these stations where you find out just how intrusive CtOS can be on its own citizens lives, from hacking into household camera’s to capture certain, home movies, *cough cough* to analysing people’s health and personal habits.

What came as quite a surprise is how smooth the combat system plays, Watchdogs rivals and exceeds even the best 3rd person cover shooters. The cover system is simple and responsive with easy transitions not only round corners but even to cover points at long distances. There is a wide range of weaponry and crafting items to employ which when combined with combat hacking really provides the player with a feeling of control and skill while at the same time never being too easy due to its realism and responsive AI. Most engagements can be quickly pre-planned and strategized by the player. Find hard cover, then watch with glee as you hack into a series of cameras that allows the player to tag enemy positions, unlock doors, set off multiple distractions and even wirelessly hack enemies ear pieces, mobile phones (to text them amusing messages regarding mortgage rejections and more) and remotely set off explosive devices they happen to be carrying. Once the wireless mayhem has reduced your foes to paranoid wrecks, it’s time to move in and pick them off, or perhaps after profiling a guard and learning he’s excited for his daughters 2nd birthday, take them down with a riot stick or just waltz past.

Perhaps some of the best moments I have had with watchdogs so far have not been campaign or side missions but rather in the alternative mode. There’s plenty of Fixer contracts to engage in for cash and experience points ranging from stopping a convoy to taking the Chicago PD on a wild goose chase. There’s also the hugely enjoyable “digital trips”, kind of techno induced acid trips which includes one activity called the “spider tank” which had me bouncing in my seat in excitement as I manoeuvred a giant robotic spider across the streets and rooftops of Chicago destroying everyone and anyone. The other game mode that has to be given praise is the embedded online features through the Smartphone online contracts. Although I get the feeling I have not got to sample all watchdogs multiplayer has to offer, what I have played has been smooth, exciting and tense. Although not directly linked to the story the invasion and tailing modes link to your wider role as a hacker where other real world players will invade your game session and attempt to hack your smart phone to gleam data from you while you are given a set time to find the hacker and put them down. The longer you are hacked the smaller the search area becomes with the tension retching up to find the geeky little thieves. On the flip side, you can hack some other poor fixer’s phone. Winning these hack duels grants notoriety points which grants useful special unlocks such as special ammo and vehicles. Another immensely exciting mode is a retrieval mode that consists of two teams driving and shooting it out to decrypt a single file package, the team who has possession of the file when 100% decrypted wins, how you get to that point is completely up to the players. The synchronicity between online contracts and the single player world is very exciting for the future of shared world games, and transitioning between the two is mostly fast and does not feel separated or restrictive, although it would be nice if there was an option to allow a friends list only option as I can foresee myself telling a would be hacker where they can stick their Smartphone for “invading” my game.

Looks wise Watchdogs is finely polished and quite striking although I have not really had a wow moment so far in regards to its next gen visuals. The detail however is impressive with weather and lighting effects realistic and ambient touches such as trash floating along the floor in the wind. Up close character details are sharp and refined but once again probably still a little short of being the title that really pushes next gen graphics. The overall style seems to mix a blend of urban, cyberpunk and metropolitan styles although it hasn’t fully engaged me atmospherically to a point I could say it has its own distinct ambience or unique look. I would have liked to see a bit more of a distinct effort to engage the player into a stylised world and was probably expecting something a bit darker and underground.

Overall it’s clear that after just a couple of days with watchdogs there’s so much in terms of content and execution to keep a large spectrum of gamers interested and happy. For open world aficionado’s and accomplishment guru’s there’s a mind bogglingly comprehensive progression system including campaign, general experience, skill points and unlocks, side missions, investigation, exploration, collectibles, interactions and activities. Watch dogs does a fantastic job in rewarding players for fully experiencing its vast open world features with progression wheels for absolutely everything with rewards, unlocks and special items making all activities worthwhile and not just extra’s to the main missions. For the more action orientated players the gameplay and scenarios are exciting, immersive and fairly challenging, with plenty of features to provide play style and options. The combat system is enjoyable and rewarding and the AI responsive.

My first impression of watchdogs is it seems to just fall short of being a truly iconic next gen title however there’s so much going on that you won’t have time to really care especially when raising a bridge behind you with cadre of cop cars in close pursuit. The graphics on the whole don’t quite provide the outstanding next gen visuals I have been waiting for however there are plenty of visual features and effects for eye candy. It would have gone a long way having a deeper opening narrative and character introduction to link the story to the wider game world giving it some perspective, and emotion, although there’s plenty of scope to develop this as the campaign unravels. The scope and scale of the game together with the well-crafted combat and unique game features will make Watchdogs worthwhile the time required to hack in for a large percentage of gamers.

Then the delays came, then the announcement of DLC and a Season Pass 5 months before the games actually release killed all of my hopes for you.

First let me start off by saying. I did not waste $60 for this game. I waited patiently and pirated this game along with a crack. I have a strict code of not giving companies money for a game, when they are announcing DLC 5 months before the game even comes out. It just tells me "Yeah! Its already in the game! You just gotta pay for it!" Fun fact, when you actually look into the game and its files, you will see files that once opened and inspected, contains said DLC.

    Onto my review

    Graphics:
Graphics are meh at best. But what do you expect when they are also creating the game for last gen consoles....It sufferers greatly and this game can pretty much be looked at, as a port across the PS4, X1 AND PC platforms. Granted, Ubisoft shoot themselves in the foot by showing off false gameplay that early and wasn't expecting not being able to achieve those graphics without suffering from terrible frame rate issues.

    Gameplay:
So...I can shoot anyone at will....but I can punch them unless they are bad? Whats the point of ether being good or bad then, if you are already limited to what you can do. I can do all this crazy parkour...but I can't jump on my own, unless im running and constantly moving? I can just do a little hop? The cars are like rubber bands and they slide all around. I can't tell you how many innocents I killed, just by attempting to make a turn and end up sliding into the pavement and into a crowd of people. This is what its like for all cars mind you. I tried using each brake once separately while not accelerating, didn't help. I even used BOTH at the same time and it made it even worse. He can drive with one hand, while looking at his phone with the other, not paying attention to the road so he can hack....but he can't stick a pistol out the window and do some "blind fire"? C'mon. If my first three hack attempts fail at stopping the cops, due to poor timing, why can't I shoot out their tires? You're pretty much punishing the player. Climbing Towers and hacking into them to open up more networks? HMMMM....Where have I seen THAT before? Surely not in AC 1-4 and Far Cry 3...where you have to climb ontop of something really high, do something and then unlock that part of the map? Hacking is extremely over hyped. You just point at something or someone and hold a button down. Thats it. Its just a gun that doesn't shoot bullets. Frame Rates have dropped for me to the point I had to do a hard reset after the game freezes. Uplay also doesn't help its cause at all. Why do I need online to play Singler Player again? Ohhh. Justa quick money grab and hoping to sell me stuff thats already in the game! Thats why! derp.

Sound: Soundtrack is decent, nice selection of songs. When it comes to the voice acting...forgettable. The Main Hero is your stereotypical guy who tries to have a deep, grizzly Batman voice but fails. The other characters are also forgettable and extremely cheesy. Then there is T-Bone....A Watered Down, Bootleg version of Trevor Philips from GTA 5.

Game in general is garbage and to those who are still on the fence about buying it. Do yourselves a favor and wait for it to drop down in price or grab it used when it hits $30.

Honestly, I don't believe that most of the VERY negative reviews here are for real - a lot of trolling going on. I've played the game for a few days now and I'm very impressed. Not giving a 10 because of the story - it tries to be too serious but gets silly too often.

Graphics do not tell you whether a game is good or not. When it comes down to it the most important aspect is the gameplay. And as much as I want to love this game I feel a bit disappointed. This is not GTA 5 and should not be compared to it in any way. What the game should be held up to is Sleeping Dogs or Deus Ex Human Revolution. And in that regard I'd say Sleeping Dogs is a better game, and Deus Ex is leagues better. But I wouldn't say the game is bad, there are some great redeeming factors. But where the game falls short is the missed opportunity to explore the issues regarding Big Brother and NSA issues, the story seems to be misguided. It can't tell whether it wants to be silly like Saints Row 4 or if it wants to be the Dark Knight. The story is the same cookie cutter story you'll see anywhere else. Revenge and betrayal. The driving mechanics are... eh. The cars feel clunky, it's hard to describe what I don't like about the driving. It just doesn't feel smooth or realistic like Sleeping Dogs. Comparing the driving to GTA 5 seems unfair as GTA 5 relied heavily on driving mechanics and with the online mode giving players the ability to race one another they really needed to have the driving down perfectly. Watch Dogs use them as a means of transportation, chasing and escaping. They are not such a big focus as other games had.

Now, my major issue is the gameplay. Sleeping Dogs wanted to give players a modern open world experience but not have guns be the main focus. They did so cleverly, as the country does not allow citizens to own guns. They could make them extremely rare thus focusing more on combat, and the game's fighting was very well done because of it. This game needed to make the gun a last resort. Watch Dogs throws you into way too many gunfights. When the game should have you focus more on hacking and stealth. At times you'll be able to choose hack/stealth or gun it out. I'd recommend giving yourself the challenge to go with hacking and stealth. That is where the game truly shines. Finding a clever way to navigate heavily guarded areas feels rewarding. But the game makes shooting the faster means of solving the problem. Deus Ex Human Revolution gave players the ability to choose stealth or shoot, but you were much more rewarded for using stealth and not killing people. Stealth non-lethal takedowns gave you much, much more experience. And this is why I bring up that game, Watch Dogs needed to break the mold on shoot em up missions by making hacking and tactics the overall better option. Also the times you'll use stealth and hacking to get around you'll notice how repetitive the solutions are. Some are extremely clever and you'll give yourself a pat on the back for doing so. But many times you'll often repeat that one clever solution.

The game is still a lot of fun, I love hacking and stealing data although I wish the world was more full of NPC and buildings you can enter. You'll interactive with the many electronics around the world but you won't interact with the world it's self. But I'd still recommend you try it. The online play is fun and the game will throw you some tough challenges. It's a good start and I hope this game becomes a franchise, because I would love to see it improve in Watch Dogs 2. But ultimately I'd say Deus Ex Human Revolution is a much better game, Sleeping Dogs is better too but that's not to say this game isn't good. I'd give it a meh/10

There is some entertainment value, but not enough to get me through the entire game, very repetitive. Rather than spend $60 on it, red box it or use gamefly and just try it out, this game would be better suited at the 39.99 range even then it's a bad deal. This game was delayed for 7 months, SEVEN and it's still extremely buggy and is lacking in a lot of features...The Multiplayer is a gimmick, nothing more. There is NO customization to be had online, and it offers very little replay value. Save the full price, and give Wolfenstein: A New Order a try instead. This game could be great, maybe they get it right with the sequel. Have a nice day

The news of its delay affected people a lot more than it did me, because I knew a delay meant more work, which 99.9% of the time leads to a better gameplay experience. The gaming community covered most of what was a highly anticipated game all up until its official release on May 27th. I, myself, bought the game the day it was released. Truthfully, I honestly played it for the rest of the night. However, during the time I played it, I noticed some very clear flaws in what was supposed to be promised. Ubisoft promised a game of an open world, highly detailed, realistic future-view of Chicago while bringing you a new, long awaited physics engine with a fresh image of what will be the future of Ubisoft video games featured on the next-gen consoles. In my opinion, they did not deliver all that they promised. Part of me believes it was the hype that made the company rush the game to its release, regardless of a delay. Here are some of the problems I experienced while playing the game:

I was glitched under the map or out of the map around three or four times, I found myself stuck in a tight space that I guess Ubisoft assumed players would not find themselves in. This is an easy fix, but it's an annoyance most definitely.

Police do not chase you when you are swimming and there are no police boats, they simply stand at the edge of the water and fire at you while a police helicopter circles the vicinity you are in.

Emergency vehicle lights do not remain on if you turn them on and get out of the vehicle.

You can not fist-fight anyone in the game, regardless of who they are.

Citizens die in one shot, no matter where you shoot them.

Hollow buildings that you can not enter have blank textured windows on them that only reflect light. (see next point for light issues)

The sunlight can be seen reflecting on the blank textured windows (see previous point) during daylight. Even when the sun is hidden behind the mountains, the windows show the sun high in the sky. The lighting is not as dynamic as I expected.

It is nearly impossible to get hit by a car, and absolutely impossible to get hit by a train. In regards to the train, no matter how far away you are from it, it will instantly stop if you step out in front of it. This seems to add a futuristic safety feature of the city, but was a useless feature in my opinion. If players want to get hit by trains, let them get hit by trains.

The ragdoll and world prop physics are terrible. When I was playing, I drove my car into a streetlight and the entire structure of the light-post broke into several pieces. In regards to the ragdoll physics, this is mainly directed towards when you are on a train and you shoot a passenger. The passenger simply falls back in their seat and stays in that position for the remainder of the time you are there.

Cars disappear after so many feet, as seen in many other games.

You can not fly any aircraft.

    Driving doesn't feel real.

Excessive and repetitive radio alerts and breaking news alerts from the city. Occasionally when you are out in the streets/on the sidewalk, a breaking news alert will appear on your screen, and it will speak of the main character, Aiden Pearce. The news refers to Aiden as a "vigilante," and citizens tend to say things such as: "I think that's the guy they are (or "were") talking about on the news!" They will then proceed to call the police.

The city takes on average 5-10 minutes to drive through.

Hacking is useless unless you are using things for cover, police chases, or taking an enemy down. Shocking an electric gate is one way of taking an enemy down. Players have also stated that missions are easier and quicker without hacking.

    Cliche voice acting and characters.

Previous-gen consoles do not experience bullet effects on water.

Bugs have been reported that Uplay passes are not activating, but Ubisoft is working on this issue.

Bugs have been reported that mainly on the PS4, the loading screen reaches nearly 90% progress and freezes.

Those are the problems with the game.

I wanted to make sure I touched up on the main issues of the game, but there are good aspects to it such as the graphics on the next-gen are pretty good. The world around you is also extraordinary, and the campaign was well developed. Don't let the scare of the issues keep your from getting the game. If Ubisoft has enough intelligence, they will update the game and try to satisfy players.

The multiplayer is great from what I've heard. It's a fun open world with friends.

I believe I'm scoring the game fairly based off of its release. With that being said, I'm giving the game a 7/10.

To make some light of it, enjoy your experience in the city of Chicago

First things First, I do think Watch Dogs is a good game but it certainly isn't a great game. The E3 reveal of the Game set the bar way too high and unfortunately this product just comes up short. It reminds me of the First Assassins Creed Game, which was a rough diamond that was ultimately polished into the true gem that its sequels were.

The E3 reveal of the Game set the bar way too high and unfortunately this product just comes up short. It reminds me of the First Assassins Creed Game, which was a rough diamond that was ultimately polished into the true gem that its sequels were.

To put it bluntly, the game just doesn't connect. The storyline is all muddled up and all the way through Act I, I just don't get why i should care about the plot. There is no world morality, Aiden's actions don't seem to have an impact on the world at large and with the personal plot so shaky, I began to lose interest pretty quickly.

The Gun Play is passable, but I don't think that the game is meant to be played as a shooter since you can be overwhelmed and shot to pieces very easily. Stealth on the other hand is a bit overpowered, accept in the auto-fail levels. Basically Stealth is the best way to get to an objective and is pretty easy to execute unless the Game forces you to be stealthy..I can stealthily hack and kill all enemies to reach a target or just hack cameras to reach the objective without a problem. But moving around a Hi-tech Prison, am going to have to replay sections multiple times.

The Driving is pathetic, every car feels like it is being driven on ice and your reputation gets adversely affected by each Civilian you accidentally mow down..

On the flip side the Spider Tank Digital Trip is a brilliant game in itself, and you can spend hours stalking and hacking various NPC's..However, again what is the point of it all..You really cannot impact their lives unless it is the generic crime prevention missions or steal their money. It would have been cool if they added a little consequence to all the hacking and privacy intrusion. You hack a low income guy's bank account and then he pops up as a potential criminal in a crime prevention mission. Or maybe you could hack into a poor old lady's account, who needs Money for Cancer treatment, and plant some of your ill gotten gains to help her out. Ubisoft has taken a giant step towards making a city feel real but the lack of consequence and the lack of an ability to impact the lives of these people makes the city feel more artificial than a GTA or Read Dead. The Far Cry 3 Island felt more alive and vibrant than the dreary Chicago in Watch Dogs. It seems to be going for the Sleeping Dogs style and basically doesn't match up in the story department.

Let me become a crime lord or Philanthropist. Give me something to do with all the money I steal. A better story, more character depth, more consequence and more interactivity will lead to a far better game when and not if the sequel arrives. Till then us gamers will continue to wait for the first truly great AAA game of this generation.

However, I admit the game is flawed, it has several glitches and bugs and the driving reminds me of a poor GTA V clone. But the difference between GTA V and Watch Dogs is the fact that Watch Dogs has an interactive world, while GTA V has shooting and storytelling. People also complain about the story in Watch Dogs, but to me personally the story is not lackluster at all. Besides, if you were to get bored from a typical story mission, you could drive 30 km in the other direction and rob a store. Did I mention the multiplayer aspect and being able to hack other players? This game has focused on the hacking and multiplayer aspect instead of focusing on driving and a memorable story. Some people will enjoy this, others will undeniably hate it. IT IS COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE. But giving it a 0/10 is moronic, and frankly juvenile. I have only experienced one 0/10 game and that is RAMBO THE VIDEO GAME. If you seriously believe that Rambo the video game and Watch Dogs deserve the same score, then you must take a hard look in the mirror. And if you climbed aboard the Ubisoft Hype Train two years ago when this game was announced and was disappointed by the final product, then that is your own fault, not the developer`s fault!

    - the driver system is broken: the physic engine is terrible and driving a car is like driving a block of iron on rails. Then each mission involving car driving is just a pain.

    - the hero is just another stereotype of the guy who loose his son/niece/teddy bear/whatever and who now wants to clean the world from the über vilains.

Anyway, this game has been over marketed but it´s very weak, and it does not deserve its rating : it looks good, it smells good but in fact that´s just an empty shell.

Many games nowadays suffer from over hype, even being unfinished. Many people say it delivers little to what it promised, but one only needs to look at it's very similar 'rival' GTA V which was plagued with launch problems both offline and notably online. Yet it's still people's favourites. Without GTA V Watch Dogs would have been more accepted but people's desire to see things crash and burn covers their vision and makes them blind to what really matters.
What Watch Dogs delivers is an enjoyable 40+ hour game with plenty of content ready for your enjoyment. If you decide to take the time out of the main mission there are many activities to embroil yourself in, including many online modes (which were all active from day one).
The driving is clunky, the online may take a long time to connect, the graphics on your average computer you bought from PC World aren't as good as the graphics represented at E3 2012 but all in all does that really matter. Most games have bad driving unless they aren't GTA V.
Watch Dogs has a lot of people using the 'as long as you enjoy it' card. Which is true, but it is a decent game. One that could perhaps do with a few updates. But if GTA V can launch half finished and succeed so can Watch Dogs.
This review may not have convinced people but hopefully it will at least certify some people's thoughts. Don't believe everything you read, but if you do read a lot.

I had cancelled my pre ordered, but decided I would pre order it again a few days before it's release. I had worries that the handling of cars wouldn't be done right, which for me is a game breaker in an open world game and I was correct, the cars feel underpowered, I hate that it burnouts every time you smash the throttle, it just doesn't feel right having to slowly increase the pressure on R2. The controller rarely vibrates and the cars bounce off objects like they're made of rubber. Even the little things, like driving into the water and he instantly jumps out instead of potentially drowning. It's like the first few 3D GTA's, they just didn't have everything right at the time.

The story is boring and does very little when trying to invoke feelings towards the character(s), voice acting is dull, especially that BadBoy character *knock off Batman voice*, the lip sync is terrible, hacking doesn't go deep enough for my liking and I found the map wasn't very well designed, areas such as city and rural are too close, highways are short, the whole map seems to compact.

In most of the reviews, people complain about the graphics and the car handling, along with comparing it to GTAV, which is absurd. Firstly, the game is so incredibly dense, and full of varied missions, challenges, collectibles, stores and other little extra distractions that can keep you away from the main campaign for hours on end. I personally found the way each car handles incredibly varied, and love the way that every vehicle can feel very different to another. It takes getting used to, and this is what I believe people complain about; vehicles can be difficult to drive at first, but you get the hang of it. You can't accelerate to a great velocity and not expect to run off the road when the steering gives out. I've got a feeling the people that complain about the driving have had too much hand holding in terms of ABS and vehicles that handle like they're made of cardboard, rather than metal. I'm sorry, but I found the handling incredibly intuitive, and those that found it difficult probably spent five minutes on the game, and then gave up. It's the only explanation I can come up with. Watch Dogs does not spoon feed you; work things out for yourself, get a feel for the vehicles, and plan out tactics for each mission and challenge, and you'll do well, and no, it won't be easy.

This is not, by all means, a hardcore game, but it offers challenges that few, if any, can match. There are many distractions, like I mentioned earlier, and you will continue to find new things to do many hours after you feel you've seen it all. The map may not be huge, but it is dense.

There are over seventy vehicles overall, ranging from pickups to motorbikes to performance vehicles, each with it's own stats. New vehicles, music and crafting components can be hacked from civilians, along with discovering them for yourself around the city.

The online hacking feature is seamless, allowing you to break into somebody else's game and steal their data, increasing your notoriety, which in turn upgrades various skills such as damage done to vehicles, nitro in online races, etc. Notoriety can decrease if you are caught, or if you yourself are successfully hacked by another player, effectively making your skills fluctuate, by activating and deactivating as it increases and decreases past the threshold.

Overall, Watch Dogs is well on it's way to becoming GOTY, and it wouldn't surprise me if it did. The game is dense, varied, fun, original, intriguing, and most of all, it keeps you going for hours. I feel I may still be playing it a week from now, and it still wouldn't have begun to grind on me. Ignore the naysayers, and judge the game for yourself; there are a lot of reviews out there since the embargo lifted. If you are still speculative, borrow it from a friend or rent it out, but I assure you that you will not be disappointed. To me, it's a flawless game, and the negative reviews (especially the zeroes) still perplex me.

I have to agree with a lot of the negative reviews of this game. I find so much of this game to be frustrating and downright annoying.

Firstly, the whole hacking thing is entirely too simplified and gimmicky. It's basically just "press a button to do this". Of course everything is kind of set up for you, so it feels way too easy and undeserved. The slingshot camera is extremely

The slingshot camera is extremely annoying while driving, especially in chases. Car chases are boring and feel so fake as the chase cars follow you like they have super AI robots behind the wheel and not humans. You can't lose anyone by simply out driving them, it has to be by using the hack gimmick (to change traffic lights, alter a bridge, etc).

You're constantly barraged by things on the HUD cluttering up the screen - a common practice with Ubisoft. You couldn't escape text, pop ups and markers in Far Cry 3 or Assassins Creed IV, and you certainly can not in Watch_Dogs.

The driving is terrible. Cars just float and "slide" everywhere, no sense of traction whatsoever. You can bash through pretty much everything and it vehicles (even motorcycles) can take a monstrous amount of damage. That in a sense, really takes away from the chases and the sense of danger when involved in such things. I've had jumps on bikes where I've been in mid air, smashed into a wall, landed and was fine. Just drove right off. This is something I'd expect in Just Cause 2, not a game trying to emulate GTA, which is known for it's awesome car physics.

The story is just all over the place. They give you a morality bar, yet you're constantly on missions where you're killing these guys and those guys. You can go around stealing out of peoples bank accounts, spying on people. It just doesn't make sense, and I'm not really sure how it fits into the game. You're a guy out for revenge, morality is kind of out the window, IMO.

The side missions are kind of repetitive. So far it's been "stop this guy with this convoy", or little mini games. Some of the little city games are kind of fun, like the chess game and the ball-under-the-cup as time killers.

Overall, I think it tried to do way too much. I can see the similarities between this and AC4: Black Flag. It feels like the concept was so wide ranging, they had so many ideas they wanted to throw in. They did, and as a whole, everything turned out to be mediocre at best. Nothing is really 'great'. Not one part of the game really shines out and makes someone say "wow, that is awesome!". Instead, you have a lot of really cool ideas, thrown together into one convoluted game with so many moving parts and different story lines that it kind of makes you disinterested in everything that is going on because it's so overly complicated.

Another example of the typical media hype. The graphics aren't close to the level shown in those famous previews. Add to that the generally mediocre quality of the game, which doesn't keep many promises of the publishers, the game isn't worth the original price. Wait until it drops significantly or ignore the game, and you won't miss anything essential.

Watch Dogs is a fun open world experience. However, the repetitive chases and the formulaic gameplay tend to get tedious and boring after a while. As such, you might want to enjoy the different multiplayer experiences and take frequent breaks to just roam around the city.

It’s a bold first step on the new terrain for Ubisoft. The game is enjoyable, offers some interesting mechanics and lasts for long enough, but is bland as a whole. The characters lack personalities, the city could use more distinctness and the story is instantly forgettable. [07/2014, p.46]

Overall, it is almost without a doubt the best platformer that has popped up on the current generation of consoles and is a bedrock on which Ubisoft could build a brand to remember.
