Ubisoft really did make this game look fantastic, but a supposed graphics downgrade and simplified game-play mechanics made it far from reality. Physics are horrible, with last-gen AI, and horrible driving mechanics.
But if that is really the case, then is it any good at all?

Well yes. What always counts the most in all media is the story. Everything else can be downright s**t, but the story will keep you interested. That's the case with watch dogs. It has a great story! Not only that, but the characters are very memorable. That is what kept me playing, and most likely you as well.

Have that and some fun puzzles, and you have a slightly above average open world game! Not the best, but most definitely not the worst either.

This game is wayyy overhyped. Don't believe the demos or even the trailers. They are lies. Ubisoft, the developers are lying to your face. This game is mediocre at best. It wants to emulate ambitious openworld games like gta or saints row but is so conservative it chooses to be Assassin's Creed instead... An open-world without any soul.

Graphics are PS3 level. Open-world? Nope not

Graphics are PS3 level. Open-world? Nope not really there's nothing to do in the world besides reading other people's messages or monitoring their scripted personal lives... Can't punch a random guy in the face. FAIL. You play a guy who talks like a ghoul (in Fallout) and dresses like a hobo without any form of personality. He's unlikable and you are forced to play this random guy. Wtf Ubisoft? Combat mechanics are alright. Poor driving, poor ai, poorly designed npcs. The token Jordi Chin is so out of place... So what's good? Well, I guess hats off for their marketing team =)

Stick to gta. And Ubisoft, I don't know what to say but maybe... please give your customers some respect? I mean, how dumb do you think we truly are?

Well, here are the things Watch Dogs does right. The world is huge, it looks beautiful (on next gen), controls and gameplay are really smooth, and the hacking feels really satisfying, apart from the mini-games used in most story missions. Some would still say that would make this game an overall 5, but there are some negatives of the game I'm willing to let go, mainly the bugs that pop up every now and then. Watch Dogs, as many hyped games, was a let down for many people, who considered it fell short on its premise of "controlling" the city from their cellphone. However, this is hardly the case. These are some of the elements you can hack:

    - Controlling traffic: traffic lights, steam pipes, bridges, blockers, road spikes, gates, garage doors and even trains.
    - Accessing Information: personal cameras, cellphones, CCTV cameras, computers.
    - Causing distractions by: activating lifts, forklifts, junction boxes, making transformers and other utilities explode/burst, triggering car alarms, ringing enemies' phones. Additionally, you can disrupt helicopters and enemies' comms,
    - Invading: you can hack cellphones to: steal money, download music, read text messages, overhear conversations (some of them will lead you to objects of interest or give you a tip on a crime).

In addition to all of that, you can also craft grenades, mines, proximity mines, distraction lures, jam comms, scanners (CtOS Scan). If you're still not satisfied you can cause blackouts throughout the city.

Of course, not all of the above is available from the get-go, they require you to unlock the required skill. Speaking of skills, the skill tree is vast, allowing you to take control of more elements, but also improving your attributes (such as handling, focus, shooting, etc.).

Weapon variety is not the best, you have: melee, pistols, sub-machine guns, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles and grenade launchers.

Now, the main story is solid, nothing extraordinary, but it's not bad by any means. Additionally, you have all sorts of side quest to undertake. Believe me, it's where you'll spend most of your time. Most of them are pretty fun and you'll all of your skills will be tested (stealth, driving, crowd control, puzzle solving, shooting, reflex, balance and more). Online activities are not too varied. Basically, you have: races (which are pretty fun), invasions and free roam.

The music is great, but graphics - and probably voice acting - could have been a little better.

All in all, it's a game that is totally worth checking out.

Watch Dogs, aside from a terrible title, fumbles in its ugly, clumsy man-hands, a terrible nonsensical narrative, underwhelming character mechanics, ridiculously outdated physics, and even after keeping my distance for over a year; going back to this game with the mentality of a last-gen mop up; I can't emphasize enough just how infuriating the pacing, character, and plot development really is. It's unsatisfying when it should be clutch-critical, incredibly ridiculous when it's implied to be intimate, and lofty with a constant "head in the clouds" delivery when all the performances suggest there should be a great gravity about the situation. Its bad enough that the main character is supposed to be emotionally distraught yet through game-demanding-actions consistently falls to express that, but to force the player to become just so distraught over things like game mechanics and plot development, is not only a cheap parlor trick, it's an express ticket to "wtf review-land". If you're like me and gave this game a (cough* second *cough) chance, please, for the love of all that is holy, refrain from doing so and save whatever resource it would take you to acquire it. Money, time, pride, favors of one sort or another; just spare yourself the grief and stay away from this slog. This is literally the first game I have ever played which made me wish I could get back every single second I spent in it. Every would-be redeemable element of this game odd so strongly overshadowed by disappointment that even playing through to remind myself how it concluded was something I simply could not stomach. Worst. Game. I. Have. Ever. Played. And yes, I did play the original ME3 ending. Watch Dogs, as it sits now, is not only not worth the time. It's an insult to the industry. This makes HAZE feel understandably hyped. Expand

I first learned about Watch Dogs after I've watched the live action trailer. You may have seen it too. A young couple goes to a little shady shop where an Indian guy fixes their phone, and gives them an amazing app free of charge. He then proceeds to walk into the street and demonstrate what the phone can do. With one tap, he can control anything, from an ATM to traffic lights. You see no gameplay footage in this trailer, they only tell you the game's name and show you the cover art. I admit I was intrigued by the concept, but I wasn't really sold and made no effort to keep an eye on the game.
A few months later I bought a PS4, and one of the games that came with it, was Watch Dogs. I didn't know Ubisoft downgraded the graphics prior to WD's release, I wasn't aware of any of the stuff that makes so many players hate the game. That's probably why I gave the game a fair chance and ended up enjoying it.
The story is as cliched as they get. A lone wolf goes out to avenge the death of a loved one, and uncovers a huge conspiracy. We've seen this million times before. It's still enjoyable, though, and there are some strong moments. One scene in the human traffic mission immediately comes to mind. If you've played the game, you probably know which one I mean. The characters, including the protagonist Aiden Pearce, are bland and rather forgettable. The only exception is T-Bone, who's actually cool and fun.
The controls are alright and I didn't have any major issues. The only thing I strongly disliked was the car driving. It gets better once you get used to it, but not by a whole lot. Sadly it's unavoidable because the city is large, and many missions require you to grab a vehicle and escape your pursuers.
The graphics are fine. Bear in mind this is an early PS4 game and logically doesn't look like games that'll come out in five years from now will. For what it is, it does look good, and there are moments where it's genuinely impressive.
The music is fine, if a bit bland, and you have an option to listen to an in-game radio. Same goes for the voice acting. Nothing really stuck with me, I just remember it being okay.
The main story is quite short, but there are tons of side missions and an obligatory DLC or two. It should keep you entertained for a while.
Overall, Watch Dogs is not as bad as everyone says. Sure, if I were one of the people who fell for the pre-release hype, my opinion would probably be quite different. I avoided Ubisoft's dishonest advertising, though, and gave the game a chance without forming a biased opinion. Take it as it is, don't dwell on what it could've been.

The gameplay can be super cool if you are the guy to like it, if you like shooting everyone in the face in an action-packed showdown against 50 enemies, this game may not be up your alley. If you instead like stealth and clever maneuvering this game is great. I would also like to point out that the car chases (ignoring the 'unusual' physics engine) are phenomenal and its always fun to run!

The physics aren't very good i have to say. The cars feel more like hovercrafts, way to heavy but slippery like **** bullets fly WAAYYY to slowly, And the freerunning mechanic just makes no sense most of the time. Although i mentioned that the bullets are unrealistic, the shooting itself feels more real than in most games, you die quickly and the recoil makes it fun and challenging!

The story is pretty generic and unforgettable, but i don't know if there will be an awesome twist or anything because i have not finished the game yet.

The graphics look ok, but not as good as promised.

The 3 things i love about this game are:

    1. The hacking mechanic is cool and revolutionary
    2. I love the 2d artstyle and the 3d minimap
    3. The online hacking is really fun to do and to get thrown into

I gave this game a 10, but now it's a 7 for me. I was planning on getting a platinum in this game, but a glitch had happened. I beat the main story, and it's really fun, but that glitch messed everything up. I lost my money, skill points, etc, but overall the game is enjoyable. I just wish the glitch didn't happen because I spent a lot of time on it.

So i boot up the game. After getting like, three reminders to sign into Uplay (which i refuse to get), i get the game started. The intro is solid and gives us a nice introduction to our main character. So then we get to the actual open world "meat", the reason everyone was so excited for the game. The hacking. I had so much fun in the game for my first few hours, looking into people's phones, stealing their money, interrupting traffic. Then after 3 days of playing the game, total of about 15 hours, i decide to actually play the game.

I hate pretty much every aspect of the game except the hacking. But even the hacking got mundane. The story was practically nonexistent. The characters weren't interesting, and Aiden was not fun to play as at all. The missions offered a nice variety, but it was still not enough to make me care to finish it. The side missions were very repetitive, no matter what the topic, and i couldn't finish each string of missions either. The gameplay was very monotonous overall. I did have some fun with the minigames around town, such as the chess challenges and drinking challenges.

Ok, i have to quickly get through all these other nitpicks and such pretty quickly. The music on the radio was not good at all. the driving just didn't feel right somehow. The overworld felt more lifeless and boring than, say, GTA. The upgrades and rewards for beating side missions were pretty useless. The graphics look pretty nice through, and this game does feel like it's next gen.

I do not like watchdogs. it's honestly not ALL that bad, but it's just so OK i can't even comment on it. 5/10

The plot focuses on the high-tech exploits of Aiden Pearce, hacker and self-styled vigilante. He’s a bit of a dullard, really, and prone to occasional bouts of hypocritical self-reflection (in between shooting men in the face, and running down hobos). Before the action starts we learn that Pearce and his partner Damien get involved in a risky hack job at a hotel, a mission that goes hideously wrong and ends up with an unknown villain retaliating against Aiden. His niece, Lena, dies in the crossfire and so begins a classic tale of one man’s quest for answers / revenge. For all the game’s reliance on tech, it’s the basest of human emotions that drives the story forward, which is either a clever nod from the developers or a lucky coincidence. Ubisoft Montreal, I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt on this one!

Story-wise, the game is mostly dud. All the characters are unimaginative stereotypes, with thin motivations and forgettable personalities. Hacker chick with piercings? Check. Sinister, elderly villain? Check. Gang leader with a stupid name? Check. The plot itself is a mixture of predictable twists, dressed up with strange leaps of logic and enough technobabble to make Bill Gates soil his beige chinos with delight.

At first glance, the game’s setting appears as shallow as its inhabitants. Chicago is a lively mixture of skyscrapers, slums, and the token ‘countryside’ bit--sadly inferior next to the wonderfully colourful, sun-drenched San Andreas of GTA 5. Look closer, though, and the city’s true beauty becomes apparent. It’s densely packed with details, hidey-holes, and some utterly dark secrets--many of which you only start to discover once you start poking around side-missions and optional quests. Perhaps my favourite moment in the whole game happens when I cause a mighty car crash, and see a couple of ghoulish pedestrians taking videos of the carnage on their phones. It really brought the game alive for me. The only real reservation I have about Watch Dogs’ Chicago is that--during the majority of my 40+ hour playthrough--it was either dark or dull. In rare moments of sunshine the game looks beautiful, really showing off its new-generation credentials.

Vehicle handling is very heavy in the game, and unless you hop on a bike or high-end sports car, most rides feel the same. That’s no bad thing, as you’re less likely to fishtail out of control when you’re fleeing the fuzz. It’s also a little less twitchy than other open-world games to make on-the-road hacking easier to do--a welcome trade-off. There’s an immense joy in zipping through traffic lights, hacking them, and watching your pursuer smash into the confused drivers behind you. It’s so satisfying, that the game even cuts to a crash-cam when you’ve timed it to perfection.

Then there’s the multiplayer, which is incredibly well implemented. Most features are integrated into the single player, and you get a pop-up message allowing you to accept or deny invites. Nice touch--sometimes you just want to be left alone. If accepted, other players enter your game to play one-on-one hacking games, races, or police chases.

Watch Dogs’ interconnected world is a wonderful, explosive, high-tech playground. Shame the people who inhabit it are so forgettable.

So first thing first : the looks, it's not the most important thing in a game but it still is your first contact with it, and although there has been an obvious graphic downgrade compared to the first public appearance of the game, but honestly the game is still beautiful and worthy of next-gen consoles, my only technical issue is the clipping (when parts of the game such like cars or people aren't visible in the distance and appear out of the blue when you get close), which is pretty common for open-worlds.

And about the world of the game, the city of Chicago is very well pictured in the game and it feels like a true living city (car accidents, robbery, conversation, romance, etc... and you don't have anything to do with those) but it lacks in interaction with you the player especially when compared to GTA 5. You don't have a real life, only a purpose be the Vigilante and yes that can keep you busy for a while (approximately 300 side activities to do), but gets monotonous when you already did 200 of them...

Concerning the main story I have seen a lot of complaints about the uncharismatic Aiden Pearce, I agree to say it doesn't have a lot of charisma but it's the same for every modern Ubisoft Games (except Ezio), concerning the support characters, you can read them pretty easily, but they aren't badly done, just expected. The story is probably the worst part of the game, its definitely generic, not bad, but predictable for any regular consumer of entertainment.

But now let's talk about the best part of the game, its gameplay, yes the driving can be improved to be more realistic but it stills very easy to master and won't bother you at hole during the game. The shooting and infiltration phases are good and not too easy (don't forget you can change the difficulty in the options) but above all else, what makes Watch Dogs unique it's the hacking, it's everywhere around you and totally change the gameplay, so yes they can still add more options to it but for the first installment in the franchise it's already a success.

So yes Watch Dogs isn't a "WAHOU" game but it's good entertainment and for the first installment of the franchise very promising for the future (way better than Assassin's Creed 1) and definitely worth of the money (50 hours if you want the 100%). I advise the game for every gamer, except the ones that are very story oriented.

Many people complain about the driving. I wish there was more gunplay instead of driving and servelance. The game can get quite boring at times, but can still be fun. 1. You cannot swim underwater.
    2. There are some invisible walls.
    3. You cannot climb obstacles or punch people unless a button prompt says that you can.
The story of Watch Dogs is quite exciting and interesting. You play as a hacker, Aiden Pearce, whose niece is killed by Maurice Vega, a gang member sent by Aiden's old hacking partner Damien Brenks to do the killing. The story then turns unoriginal, as Aiden is out for revenge on Maurice and Damien. Aiden is not a very interesting character, but the supporting characters are. There are also side missions like Criminal Convoys, where you have to cut off and gun down a group of gang members before they reach their destination, Gang Hideouts, where you knock out a specific target of a gang, Fixer Contracts, where you either get a car to a location with minimal damage, lose Police or gang pursuers and then drop off a car or drive through checkpoints to get the police on to you. The last group of side missions are Crimes, where you stop a crime just before it happens and catch the criminal. Whilst roaming around the in-game city of Chicago, you can use Aiden's smartphone to profile people. This shows you their name, what they've been doing recently, their job and their income. There are also some Mini Games to play: Cash Run, a parkour running smartphone game, Chess, Drinking, NVZN, another smartphone game where you shoot aliens coming out of a portal, Poker and Shell Game, where a man puts a ball in a cup and shuffles three of them round. Once he's done you have to guess which cup the ball is in. There are a lot of collectibles: Audio Logs, City Hotspots, ctOS Breaches, ctOS Towers, Privacy Invasions and SongSneak. There are many investigations that add more to the story, like the Human Traffic Investigation or the Missing Person Investigation. Gun combat in this game feels great and sounds great too. A bad thing about Watch Dogs is its excessive hacking puzzles that are used many times during the story, and many more when finding collectibles. Another bad thing is that Ubisoft have tried to mix single player with multiplayer, and this doesn't work well. At any time outside of a mission during the game, an online player can invade your game and hack you, and you can do the same to them. This sounds fun, but it can get really annoying and boring when someone jumps into your game and ruins your fun. The rest of the online modes are Online Decryption, Online Race and Online Tailing. Sometimes these modes can be quite glitchy, buggy and laggy, but the real problem is that just under a year from release, the Watch Dogs online community is dying out. Many bad things from Ubisoft's other big franchise Assassin's Creed are in Watch Dogs. Overall, Watch Dogs is a good game that is kept from getting 8 or 9/10 because of not-as-advertised graphics, missing vital open-world features, occasionally buggy online modes, bad mixture of single player and multiplayer and excessive hacking puzzles.

In fact, Watch Dogs has some things of them, which i don't know that it is a good way to start a new IP. Despite it has unforgivable graphics problems there are no doubt that the world of WD is beautiful but sometimes its reality is damaged with the white contours to hack everything. Why doesn´t Ubisoft just put a little sign? Has to bold the entire structure? Like a bridge for example!!? And at night time in some hours i don´t like the colours too. Too saturated. The reflections of the windows are a truly disaster. Next gen graphics don´t even reflect the persons on the streets? And the buildings and other surroundings don't correspond simply. It´s a shame. Of course, the rain and reflections on the road are fantastic, the water effects are splendid, the lightning and crash/explosions are very very good, the cars, boats, motorcycles, ... are very well done (just need a more realistic destruction effect and better physic sometimes). Multiplayer is very good too, with fun and innovation. The graphics problems (i want to say again the graphics are good but with ridiculous bugs) and the obviously GTA 5 comparison relegate the Watch Dogs to second place (but far away) as an open world game. Rockstar has the advantage of experience and in fact GTA is a solid, polished and a final product, a culmination that is nearly perfection. Watch Dogs has potential but i´m a little concerned about creativity of Ubisoft in the hypothectical sequel.

I dis-agree with both, and have found the leading character to be necessarily opaque, so as to allow the player to place elements of their personality over the main character using their own in game choices.
The driving is just as bad ( or as good ) as GTA 5. Motorbikes and high performance cars ( but not stupidly twitchy sports cars ) handle just fine as long as you respect the road.
If anything, the game could do with more gunplay, especially the gang take down missions.
Watchdogs is a highly recommended open world action game, with a long campaign and many, many side quests and objectives. ( all similar to games like Assassins creed series, Farcry and the new tomb raider ).

SO disappointing. This was supposed to be the game of the year, but it became the deception of the year, because our expectations were too high. It can be a good looking game by some times, but it's so empty, car handling is a joke.
I didn't finished it entirely, i guess the story wasn't that good either...

I do not understand how one can evaluate a game like that in a negative way. I've never seen an open-world title with missions so well structured: stealth, shooting, hacking, car chases, everything works great. Yes sure, characterization and plot are certainly not at the top, but Watch Dogs was able to give me lots of hours of fun. A good starting point which bodes well ...

Hackers are the warrior of the future; this is made obvious by Watch Dogs. During this game you play Aiden, a hacker in the city of Chicago. Aided by CtOS, you can hack virtually anything. However, there are other characters during the story that I actually did care about. This game's plot is not that great and is very predictable. The thing that makes up for this is gameplay. Hacking is fun and is integrated quite well, but not perfectly. I found that the car driving mechanics were pretty good and enjoyed driving the various cars in this game. The only problem was that you could not customize them. Gunfights were fun most of the time, especially when using the hacking feature to create blackouts. Personally, I would buy this game as the price has dropped and is no longer $60, for the price it is now, it's worth it. This game receives a 7/10, it was a great game. Expand

This is really big missed opportunity. Ubisoft had a lot of potential for a good game here, but the execution just drops the ball in every way. In every mission type they have an idea... and then they forget that going through the missions is supposed to be fun. This game also has no idea whether it wants to have a stealth or an action focus so it ends up lacking in both and making especially the action parts.... I wouldn't say impossibly hard, since they can be done with blind luck something like 25% of the time... but they are thoroughly obnoxious as all hell in ways they didn't need to be. Let's list of a couple of examples. First off you're often tasked with taking out a car. So you get into a car, chase the target down and..... you can change the traffic lights near him in hopes that he has an epileptic seizure when he sees red. You can't shoot from your car. If you get out to shoot, the target will escape and the mission will fail. So what you're left with is spending the next 35 minutes ramming into the enemy car hoping against hope that you will somehow succeed. Eventually you will, but did you have fun? No you didn't. It get's better. Often you are tasked to do this against convoys. In these missions you can intercept them and shoot them with say... a grenade launcher, and it's doable, if quite generic. But then the game tasks to take one or more people from the convoy *alive*. And now you're thinking "okay, so I equip my tranquilizer darts or something like that right?" Wrong. In order to take someone alive is to run into his di*k and hit him. While the rest of the convoy guns you down and kills you. If you stop to kill the rest of the convoy first, the targets will without fail escape. So you your only hope is to kamikaze the targets like an idiot and eventually succeed in your like nineteenth try after which you get to escape against impossibly fast pursuers and you've spent days on this mission. And it sure as all hell isn't fun. The game is filled with missions like this, that practically require you to have Saint's Row IV style superpowers like flight to get these slog missions done.... but you don't. The developers made Aiden Pierce an incapable protagonist who does not have the skills nor the equipment or health to take on these armed enemies. Also points deducted for the impossible drinking minigame that has a trophy tied to it. I was really hopeful for this game even after the graphics controversy, but damn.... there is just nothing fun about this generic sandbox game. Expand

So after all the great hype and promising teasers of gameplay, we finally get to experience the long awaited Watchdogs and i have mixed thoughts about the game. i liked most of what i've seen and experienced but there are some vital areas that personally disappoint me.

Gameplay - Despite having a vast amount of side missions, you do feel like after completing a few that it does eat away at your interest of the main campaign. It does lack major depth in the side missions but the short details do keep them interesting. The movement is nice & solid which is similar to the feel of Assassins Creed IV but does get irritating when attempting to climb some fences and walls that cant be engaged. The hacking is fun while it lasts and prevents WD from being a generic game. The driving though is the biggest disappointment and almost jeopardizes the entire experience, the control when driving is very poor and it heavily takes away from getaways and chases. The combat system is also a tad too simple and easy. Gameplay Rate: 8

Storyline: I think the story is great but it lacked complexity, it has a basic plot for a very sophisticated world. Better writers could have made this much more engaging. Aidan also at times lacked to pick up the momentum throughout the story, luckily he had a strong supporting cast. Storyline Rate: 4

Challenge: At first the hacking can be annoying but once you've settled in playing you'll get the hang of it but as for the missions i felt it was a bit too easy, the only difficult thing for me was the driving because of the horrible driving system but other then that WD isn't that hard. Challenge Rate: 7.

Fun Factor: A very fun game that i enjoyed and still enjoying at this moment, obviously hacking being on top of the list but even the horrid driving system has fun moments when playing around with blockers and traffic lights. Fun Rate: 7

Graphics & Sounds: The graphics didn't really impress me much, i actually was a fool to expect the quality to be high as it was shown on all the teasers. What i really didn't like was the contrast of color through the game, it was like walking through a bland and unhappy city throughout the whole game even the sunny days were depressing. Expect the same and even less from the game on PS4. Unless you got it on the PC....The sound effects were up too par and accurate, cars crashing and the different sort of guns blasting were sharp and even the the voice casting were great, the in game music wasn't too bad either. Graphics & Sound Rate: 6

My Conclusion: As much as i wanted to praise this game i feel the expectations were set too high, even with a avid amount of things to do in the game i felt there were bits and pieces that prevented this game from reaching its full potential.
Buy or Rent: Buy with caution or if you like Assassin Creed just with a modern technology twist other then that rent first. Want chaos? Stick too GTA V.

Overall Rating - 6.5: Far from perfect

Some say GTA V reigns while a minority say Watch Dogs is superior. While I am with the latter, there are a few points that make Watch Dogs shine in comparison. The biggest is the immersion of the world. It's NOT because the map is Chicago, it's because of the Profiler. Each pedestrian has a near unique identity that you can hack into by listening to phone conversations and by reading texts or emails. It adds a whole new level that no open world has offered. In addition to this, the hacking is a novel idea that makes you feel in control of the world. It certainly is not as engaging as promised, but that in no way diminishes the fun of it.

With comparing the combat to other games, Watch Dogs delivers. The levels are crafted to encourage the use of hacking (duh) rather than brute force, but sometimes requires both to succeed. The cover system employed nicely complements the stealth aspect to where if you made full use of your skills, no resistance should be met. However it's played, there is a nice progression system that makes your tasks easier no matter what route you take.

Since comparisons are the theme, the driving in Watch Dogs is terrible. The physics is oddly programmed to the point that I had to ditch a truck stuck because a tire from a tire swing got lodged in the bed (no joke). When you get airborne, it feels awkward; when you off road it feels awkward; when you crash it feels awkward and unsatisfying. You get the picture.

The biggest problem with the game I had was the recycling of ideas. While the style of main story missions where incredibly fun, there got to be a point where I wanted to see a fresh idea just because it I was tired of the same concept. Outside of the main missions, there are some side missions that suffer with repetition, while others are entirely enjoyable and flesh out the story.

Overall, there are solid strengths that make the game worthwhile despite the negative feedback that has overshadowed the game.

Besides the atrocious writing, the mission design is horrible. Most missions boil down to terrible stealth, boring shootouts, or car chases, which go on way too long since you can't shoot while driving. The ability to hack the city is gimmicky and boils down to switching traffic lights to crash pursuing cars. The driving barely works and feels unfinished. The gunplay is generic at best and often shootouts are repetitive and boring. Sidequests are mostly "knock this one guy unconscious because he's bad, but don't kill him because you're a good guy" despite the fact that you can and often have to kill everyone else first. While simple, it works in such a way that it’s fun and engaging. It’s enjoyable seeing the environment react to your interactions, aiding you in the action. I can say Watch_Dogs is fun, however the story-line is nothing to be amazed by. Expect a cliché, “I’ve been there before” kind of story. This story is not going to surprise you. The characters are interesting enough, Aiden doesn’t really crack a lot of jokes, but his character can still be taken seriously. His presence is authoritative; he isn’t an underdog, he knows what he’s doing and he’s a pro at it. The story is enjoyable and well crafted, but in contrast to the gameplay it’s nothing new—just decent.

Then there’s the driving. There’s not much to say about the driving other than it’s all right. There’s an undeniable awkward sensation to it, but after a while you should be able to get used to it. It’s not bad, just different. I did not like the fact that you can’t own a car at any given time, nor are there any customization options. You can only steal or “order” cars through a phone app, but they’re not for you to keep.

The setting and environment in Watch_Dogs is impressive. Ubisoft created a beautiful representation of Chicago. While not as colorful and vivid as Los Santos in GTA5, Chicago gives a more photorealistic and darker tone than the latter. The whole game is a lot darker, at that. Do not be discouraged by the “graphic downgrade” — On the PS4, the game looks beautiful. Cutscenes are superb. The city looks amazing close and at a distance. The NPCs are varied and feel alive in the city instead of robotic entities and that gives a lot of credibility to the environment. I will say that there isn’t as much detail like the way it is in GTA5 as far as the open-world goes, but what is there is polished and good looking. There are a few things here and there such as the reflections in the windows and awkward world interactions, but it isn’t enough to break the experience. Chicago looks beautiful.

There’s also multiplayer in Watch_Dogs, and it’s thankfully a deviation from the traditional. There are modes where you can stalk or hack other players. These tend to be passive but they’re incredibly tense and fun. There are also online races and deathmatches, for those who prefer the traditional.

Watch_Dogs is a fun experience, but the story will not fulfill everybody. It’s one of those “either you like it or not, there’s not really an inbetween” cases. But even if you’re not a fan of the story the game packs a hell of a lot of side content (I was at around 50% completion when I finished the story, and I had done plenty of side content by then) to engage in. Side content goes from fixer contracts (car delivery missions, cop evasions, among others), clearing enemy hideouts, etc., to collectibles and mini-games. Thankfully they feel relevant to the game instead of wastes of time, *cough* AC3.

Let us hope we see a gigantic improvement, sort of like we saw from AC1 to AC2, in the sequel.

Watch dogs has been a game many were excited for yet its release date pushed many times due to problems. The story line is dull and the setting gives me an ill feeling, i.e. the cold north and it is depicted worse than it really is. The side missions (fixer contracts etc.) are bland, just as much as the story. The protagonist is nothing extravagant, just like the rest of the 'good' characters.
This bold move by Ubisoft, attempting to usher in a new era of RPG games was not an entire failure, but has to be improved upon significantly, like Assassin's Creed.

Oh and the music, what a joke! It is a bunch of unheard of "tracks" from a bunch of lousy no-name artists. And you are supposed to feel and accomplishment when you unlock new songs?! Oh yeah, great I just unlocked another assault on my senses! Complete waste of time and money. Gonna find someone else to pawn this off on! Expand

Watch Dogs is an open world action game developed by Ubisoft. The story takes place in Chicago Illinois, a detailed city that is hooked up to a big centralized operating system called the Corporate Controlled System (CTOS) that monitors everything.

Main character Aiden Pearson participates in an electronic bank heist at a hotel that goes wrong and ends with unknown Hitmen retaliating against Aiden. His niece, Lena is hospitalized after the cross firings and dies after being in coma for 2 months.

Watch Dogs has an interesting mechanic that’s main focus is on hacking. Aiden has the ability to access the CTOS and can manipulate his environment by using his smart phone that can hack into bank machines, security cameras, people’s phone calls and personal information such as occupation and salaries. The hacking also allows you to escape trouble by distracting guards and accessing their grenades.

Your phone can also be used while driving by opening gates, raising bridges and blowing steam pipes from the underground. The driving wasn’t very realistic, but I liked the arcade physics which were fun; however, the lack of combat options while driving is disappointing because you can’t fire out of the car window so you will end up driving around and hacking things to get rid of the enemy.

The shooting is solid but it is the stealth approach that is more rewarding as you can infiltrate secure locations filled with guards by accessing a camera in the building using your phone. You can then project yourself into another camera in the building within range. It is very important to connect with the main character; sadly this can’t be said about Aiden. I was surprised to see by how boring Aiden’s character was. His character was dry, forgettable and with no sense of humor, luckily the supporting casts are better.

The main campaigns length is around 35 hours and there is a lot of content throughout the game with many things to do like slot machines, drinking games, and chess. The surprising multiplayer is engaging with many fun modes. I personally enjoyed intrusion mode where you spawn into another player’s game session and hack them without being noticed.

Watch dogs had a lot of potential to be a great game, but the bland main character and weak story does affect the overall experience. Nevertheless, the game is fun with a lot of content for exploration and it cleverly mixes stealth, action and hacking that is entertaining.

This game is a waste of money, it lacks of the FUN factor, it is boring and if I can describe in one word this game, that word would be TRASH, I'm really very disappointed and this game changed my opinion about Ubisoft and the quality of its games.

Honestly, I think that people are overheating this game way too much. Sure, the graphics don't look as next generation as it was in E3. Even for PS4, this is very unacceptable. The creativity to the androids is awesome especially when you play as them. I also love that you can blackout the entire city, that is awesome! The story was kinda flat, but not terrible, it's as lacking as Assassin's Creed. I like the sound track. I like the gameplay, it makes me want to keep playing for the side missions, hack missions, and even the storyline. Overall, I really like this game. I don't think it's great, but I definitely don't think it's awful. I'm seeing here that most people are giving it 0/10 all because of the graphics…that's it. Everything else other than the graphics are average. Expand

Great game with a fascinating concept.

Enjoyable gameplay (have multiple options for playing through a mission), deep story and amazing graphics and side missions.

You will be able to sympathize with the protagonist, Aiden.

Good game, keep up the good work Ubisoft!

I think it's a solid game overall. While a lot of the more 'adult content' was a bit overdone and not truly relevant to the overall scope of the story, I still felt Ubisoft dealt a game a continue to play, albeit from time to time.

It was worth the $60 price tag on pre-order (1 of 3 games I have ever payed full price for) and at 95+ hours it has offered a number of worthwhile moments

Watch Dogs has in my opinion, a wonderful story line, and wonderful shooting mechanics. Chicago is masterful and almost identical to reality. The open world just adds to the experience of the game, making it even better. The only flaw, is simply that there is nothing to do in online with your friends, and that the driving mechanics are overly sensitive, and very difficult to get used to.Watch Dogs has in my opinion, a wonderful story line, and wonderful shooting mechanics. Perhaps of not being an gta game or skyrim, watch dogs is still a good open world game, but it still have a weak story and it isnt revolutionary as i thought it would be.

Really wanted to like this game, it looks amazing and the concept is fresh. Unfortunately the execution is lacking, there is so much going on in the game that the average player can't keep track of it all and you are left feeling numb when you accomplish missions in an unintended manner because you can't pull off the cool move.

"Watch Dogs" is just not enough. Putting it's terrible story and boring main protagonist aside, the game feels forced. And while the impressive hacking ability may be a joy to use, repetitive mission design and lack of meaning is still as bad as its always been.

Technically there is a lot to do in the game (including a decent multiplayer), but not much really arouses me personally to stick around for long. Now the cons: A horribly bland and boring/lifeless city with not much to see; sometimes I feel like this game would've been better off being a linear game as opposed to an open world game, as driving from point A to point B was such a chore to me. The side missions never really excited me, I just really stuck to the drinking mini game and crime prevention side quests and not much more. The driving was comically bad, especially the collisons to surroundings/ other cars; felt like the road was butter and I could crash into the back and somehow take no damage and end up sliding to the side of the car I just crashed into. The characters in the game were pretty bland too, I had no emotion playing through the game, just played it to finish it basically. Bottomline is lower your expectations of this game, it's no where near gta or even sleeping dogs standards. If you like this game, you'll be happy to know there is a lot of things to keep you occupied for a while. But the hacking aspect alone probably saved this game for me. Expand

Watch Dogs is a fun open world experience. However, the repetitive chases and the formulaic gameplay tend to get tedious and boring after a while. As such, you might want to enjoy the different multiplayer experiences and take frequent breaks to just roam around the city.

It’s a bold first step on the new terrain for Ubisoft. The game is enjoyable, offers some interesting mechanics and lasts for long enough, but is bland as a whole. The characters lack personalities, the city could use more distinctness and the story is instantly forgettable. [07/2014, p.46]

Overall, it is almost without a doubt the best platformer that has popped up on the current generation of consoles and is a bedrock on which Ubisoft could build a brand to remember.
