The Division is a gorgeous, slick new franchise that I would argue is probably one of the year's biggest releases. It's an excellent take on a 'what-if' scenario, and frames the realistic setting in a fresh way with RPG content. It is a stand-out release, and a brave step from Ubisoft charging into a relatively new gaming category. I've loved the time I've spent playing it thus far, and I'm certain this is going to be a hugely successful title, and with the content updates to on the horizon, I'll be playing The Division for a long time to come.

Refreshing combo of a real-world setting & weapons with RPG elements, combined with great atmosphere, awesome coop and the highly unpredictable Dark Zone, make this a stand-out game.

Minor gripes (e.g. NPCs repeating lines) are overlooked due to the overall polish and attention to details which is truly stunning in places. Massive are also 100% on board with updating and fixing. They've moved fast with a couple of quick updates to address minor annoyances, and so look to be focused on providing an excellent user experience.

If you like RPGs and shooters, this is a game you must try!

I have a blast playing this, the New York of the Division looks stunning and play beautifully the Dark Zone feels challenging and tense. The Dark Zone feels like it has real consequences.

I've now put in 30 hours into this game and so far I'm really liking it.

I also had one disconnect (hour 1/2) which seemed to be quite common across the community, since then (hour 2+) I've yet to be disconnected at all. Another slight niggle and although it isn't major could be an improvement, crafting! To generate 1 blue item (if you haven't already collected) you can use 5 greens which is fine until you have 250 to turn into 25 and have to sit there doing each one. It is also a shallow game as far as story is concerned, the fact is it' isn't that type of game, you will be putting a lot of hours into "the grind" and replaying missions; this is not a linear story. NPC's can also be a little annoying, mostly in dialogue, whilst wondering around the home base expect to hear the same line about 10 times before you leave.

One odd choice which seems to be in the game for no good reason is the second character, with one character you can and will unlock all abilities meaning to create a second character would only serve one purpose to play with mates who are lower level which you can still do with a higher level, albeit easily.

I've seen a lot of reviews and people talking about the enemies being bullet sponges and yes, they are but you are playing an MMORPG, other games such as Destiny etc can mask that with the fact they're aliens which The Division cannot, it's trying to combine a realistic scenario with MMORPG gameplay and you have to step back and appreciate that.

After 30 hours I'm more than happy with the game and the daily missions are a nice touch, allowing me to continue with the game and feel like there's still something worth playing for and with the introduction of DLC over the next three months (free and paid) I'm looking forward to seeing what that has to offer as well. Matchmaking is a plus too, when you need to grab another three people for a mission on hard (and you will need to) the matchmaking seems to work quite well in finding other players for you to game with. The map is absolutely massive, thankfully fast travel is there to help facilitate that but if you did decided to walk it the scale and way everything seamlessly allows you to pass through zone to zone is amazing.

Overall it's not quite there yet but there's a solid base to build upon.

It feels like a Mass Effect 2 and Destiny hybrid. While it is far from perfect with bugs etc..., the game is enjoyable and the Dark Zone is a welcome mechanic that made my heart race with the high stakes of the extracting higher quality loot.

    Opinion:

This game is very fun and is exactly as advertised. It's a looter-shooter. You shoot enemies, you get loot. At its core, that's all it is. A lot of people have railed against this game due to repetitive gameplay and I'm not sure I understand why. Missions typically have varied goals that are achieved by generally shooting enemies in your way. If you think that's repetitive, you're in the wrong genre. In a game about shooting, people shoot things and get shot at. One reviewer commented on a lack of feedback from the guns, if you shoot someone, you get markers and sfx for headshots. What more do they want? Balloons and confetti?

Additionally, the most unique design in this whole game is the Dark Zone. This is a free-for-all, pvp, loot fest where players are going to have some great stories to tell from their first excursion. In short, the Dark Zone is a place where players can go (in a group or on their own) to hunt the most desirable loot in the game. Other players roam the zone with you and can either help you kill enemies or kill you. This builds a huge atmosphere of suspense to this already intense zone.

    Build-It-Up:
    - Solid gunplay
    - Beautiful graphics
    - Great teamwork
    - Cool mechanics
    - In-the-moment character customization
    - Rewarding loot cycle
    - The Dark Zone
    - Atmosphere is incredible

    Break-It-Down
    - Missions could use more guidance (a little TOO much freedom)
    - Character customization is weak (better than Destiny or any other shooter but not quite RPG territory)
    - Gun sfx are weird
    - Latency issues can happen

The game is a Team-Based Rainbow 6 Cover RPG. It's all about finding gear, building up your stats and skills, finding new gear, staying behind a wall while unloading on enemies, and joking around about it with friends.

Multiple avenues in each mission for tactics. Spoken dialogue paints the scene and provides insight. Each mission is more or less a arena mode while waiting for waves of enemies to rush you - so if that's your thing more power to you. (I personally enjoy it.)

The "Open World" and "MMO" portions of the game are totally bland. Never see other teams or people wandering around (unless you're in the PvEvP areas.) NPC dialogue is recycled - a lot. Tons of collectibles all over the place (because Ubisoft games LOVE collectibles and radio towers.)

And you can shut car doors. Cause when the world goes to hell, everyone leaves their door slightly ajar.

This game reminds me of Fallout 4 with looting, weapons and gear customization. Different areas provide better gear and weapons loot which is a great part of the game and very vast due to the amount of loot throughout the game. The Dark zone is also a great addition to the game which provides the best loot but hardest fights throughout the game, also you will have a separate ranking system for the Dark Zone than your normal game rank which provides a new feel to the game even after several hours into it. However, during my time playing the game the AI has been somewhat buggy, meaning I would be in a battle and enemies will run right into the open and just take my bullets. This does not happen all the time just sometimes. Ultimately, the division is a fantastic game and apart from the buggy AI sometime I would consider it being a 10/10. Expand

    Quite fun, yet disappointing.

The game begins with a very basic character creation system, you can choose between a few different head shapes, skin colors, tattoos, scars etc. Nothing really fancy, and "Basic" is the key word here because everything in this game is just like your character's creation: basic. The game begins with a very basic character creation system, you can choose between a few different head shapes, skin colors, tattoos, scars etc. Nothing really fancy, and "Basic" is the key word here because everything in this game is just like your character's creation: basic.

The missions to gain credits to develop your HQ are basically all the same and there are a lot of them: Secure an area (understand: kill 50 mobs), Protect some supplies (understand: kill 50 mobs before they destroy the supply boxes) and Collect some stuffs and bring them back somewhere (understand: kill 50 mobs and spend 5 minutes walking with a heavy suitcase which slows you down drastically).

The main and secondary missions are a bit more inspired, yet nothing to go crazy about. The game is heavily scripted (ie: the enemies behind huge glass doors on the top floor of a building won't move if you haven't cleared the lower floors first...) and the AI is pretty basic not to say stupid.
The mobs are basically all the same with a few skin differences: The gangsta with a weapon (baseball bat or a shield + axe or gun), and the "cleaners" with a weapon (a flame thrower or a gun). The bosses are uninspired too (mostly a normal mob on steroid) and there is little difficulty defeating them.

The weapons customization is pretty cool though, you have 6 mod slots on your weapons to improve them. That's very cool and they really affect your weapons stats. The talent tree is also interesting even if you will most likely use the same talents all the time.

Unlike Destiny, you won't see any players in the PVE part of the game (except your team mates of course), and you will only see other players in some secure areas such as your HQ.
The PVP zone (the Darkzone) is fun (except when being chain killed by a group of 4 rogue agents) and stressful. You never know if that guy who helped you for an hour will betray you when it will be time to extract your loots.

Verdict: 6/10, that's not a bad game, but it's far from what I was expecting after watching the trailers.

This review is based on my experiences after playing the game daily since march and it's worth mentioning my review depends much on the end game, which in all fairness should be included in the summed up version of any review.

This review is based on my experiences after playing the game daily since march and it's worth mentioning my review depends much on the end game, which in all fairness should be included in the summed up version of any review.

In its current state The Division is not a solid game. It lacks most of the things I am looking for in a game, such as a story that's alive and gets you hooked up on "what is going to happen next" and "oh, that's some interesting turn around". I mean, the back story of the game is really intriguing but there's no actual follow up on the post apocalyptic, dystopian story in the game and you never really get any feeling of being in this chaos except from the fact that New York are all abandoned after the pandemic spred via dollar bills during black friday. (How many people actually pays with bills anymore?). According to the size of the map the dev's could've done so much more. Instead the game concentrates on Dark Zone, which is approximately 1/5 of the map. Everything outside is dead. There's no reason going around free roaming after you've done the side missions that don't reward you more than some new specs and perks from the Base of Operations. It also lacks interesting characters, such as rememberable enemies, allies and/or missions. Your own character is just like everybody else.

The loot are not rewarding and nor is the crafting system. All of it reminds me of climbing a mountain that just grows larger and larger. Of all you manage to achieve there's always something new that you need to do before you get what you're looking for. Some gamers may like this type of gaming but most of the other RPG games out there are more rewarding. The Division is like a wank without any pay off.

But the game has a lot of potential. I really enjoyed when I met some bosses walking around outside Dark Zone. More of that! Give the map outside Dark Zone some life. There's tons of interesting places and appartments, parking lots and construction sites where they can make something happen.

And speaking of Dark Zone. I've heard much about the Dark Zone and mostly it's pretty negative things like the loot suck and there's a lot of griefing in there that go rogue on you etc. But when I look at Dark Zone it reminds me of the time when it was snow outside and you walked to school and you knew it will be a snowball fight on the football pitch during the breaks. Anyone entering the pitch knew about the rules. You get some and you loose some - you consent to the rules. Don't think you can go in and just mangle down anyone without reprisals. And if you get mangled down you don't go running to the teacher with tears in your eyes and pointing down the pitch and say there's a quartet of griefers that threw snow in your face. Take the Dark Zone for what it is. The loot could've been better though. For even with a Scavenging over a 100% there's only slim chances that you get rewarded with any decent loot.

There's two types of gameplays I hate: anything where time is ticking down and the other one is waves. It's not very refreshing, it's not very pioneering and it's just boring. The new Incursion Falcon Lost are a wave based game mode and it's a challenge. The worst thing with this is that you only get rewards once a week. However you can collect two rewards after complete both the Hard mode and the Challenging mode.
These modes have a recommended gear score level at 140 for Hard and 160 for Challenging. But after the first week gamers already glitched their way to top gear score even though they didn't complete the mission the regular way. This lead to heavy problems since the glitched out mega super players with high gear score tried to matchmake players with higher gear scores so they should have a chance of beating the level the normal way. So if you had a gear score of 150 you got kicked out. I can honestly say that the best players I've played with have had gear scores around 150 and not 210+. Luckily this issue have been fixed. But there's still too many issues of matchmaking in the game. I don't know how many times I experienced missions that don't load and you get to load another one, and another one, and another one.

The game is broken in so many areas. PC gamers have serious issues with hackers and all of the platforms (Xbox, PS4 and PC) suffer from all the players that cheat through missions with all of the glitches. Massive and Ubisoft have however tried to sort things out, but there's only more glitches coming.
I've been playing it daily since march 15 and now time has taking its toll. My final judgement regarding this game is that it is not a complete game in its current state. However, I hope that Massive and Ubisoft listens to the critics and make it better. More things to do outside Dark Zone, refine the loot and crafting system and makes sure to address the other issues regarding cheating players and hackers.

Unfortunately this isn't the first time Ubisoft comes out with a so so game...

    Cons
*Graphics. Not as good as they once showed it in E3.
    *Online only. No offline mode.
*Not a true MMO. Limited w/ 15 players in "virtual areas", can only co op w/ 4 players.
*Bullet sponge. I don't care if you have teflon coated armor times 10 on your person, it doesn't take 30-40 bullets from an AR to kill said person, especially w/ headshots
*bugs and glitches. There are many, trust me. There's a particular bug where you can grief someone from entering the safe house.
    *Verify Identity. Really?
*26 missions. I'm almost done w/ the game.
*Grindfest. You go to point A to point B, kill enemies, kill bosses, collect loot, repeat.

I was left underwhelmed from what I originally saw. Maybe it was all the hype and I expected this game to be more than expected, but nope. This game is bland and quite honestly, I don't see myself playing it past this week. I'll end up selling it on craigslist or ebay. It's like I basically rented it for the week.

He played the beta and his description and hopes had me drooling. Aesthetically beautiful. RPG/MMO, challenging game play, full customization, a solid longer term development (3+ years in the making). Was the answer to Destiny? I hoped so.... I was sold.

I went all in. I put a hundo down for the Gold Edition.

    The reality:

Simply put, the game is absolutely beautiful to the eye. Character creation is limited in choice and customization. I read reviews before the release date that said this item would be expanded. If this happened, it was by much. Disappointed, but not a huge deal by any means. BUT this can be taken a step further in regards to acquired gear for appearance. I have certainly found my fair share, but everything seems to be a recolored version of another item. I went from a white jacket, to a grey jacket... later found a blue one. My guys looks just the other two team members. Oh wait, that one guy has a helmet. I can actually tell him apart! Hey buddy name is now "helmet". If we find another helmet, your name will be "blue helmet" tho because you'll look just like the other guy with a helmet.

So that's a little frustrating. Not much variety there.... at all. UNLESS you purchase some stuff from the online UBI store.

Weapons customization is admittedly cool. I think it's lacking on execution. Weapons have thus far run into the same issues in terms of visual variety. However, your instruments of destruction can be upgraded with a variety of accessories, so far the benefits haven't earth shattering but they do give show up visually when added to a weapon. Now here's my BUT. Weapons don't feel as individual as they do in Destiny or even Call of Duty. They pretty vanilla. by any means. This was something that Destiny nailed IMO. At this point, I feel like games should be out performing each other. Kinda feels like a step back in this regard. Also, their random benefits are nearly as cool as Destiny's. I get it tho, this is a separate game, "different game style" blah blah blah. Got it.

Villains. Point blank. Boring as hell. It's a un-felt grind. No crazy maniacs that are losing their minds like in Boarder Lands. The head bosses are very anticlimactic and I hardly notice that I'm battling one until a few minutes into the fight. It usually clicks while I have my cross-hairs zoomed... holy crap, this guy looks a little different! No wonder its taking us 5 minutes to blast riddle him.

The game play itself isn't intuitive, but that perfectly. It takes some getting used too. However, it's not fluid. You find some cover, shoot, and can bound by targeting another location and hold down on the x putting for a short moment. That "short moment" is my point of contention. When you want to scramble, it might not happen unless you have a premeditated plan. Again, this is a different game. Got it. Check.

The rest of the issues I can easily dismiss as just another early bird release. It seems to happen with every game. Even the ones that have been in the planning for from 3 to 10 years). I clip through the ground for no reason, or trying to get into a group causes me to log out. Simple game crashes.... these things happen right? Can't hold it against Ubi.

So I've had the game for three days and took a day off to put in some solid game play. The verdict? I'm bored. I can help thinking that I purchased a beefed up version of the MMO Defiance for PC. I hate to say it but Defiance may have held my attention for a little longer. Just a little.

The RPG elements are great but you can already tell that once you get done with the story line the rest of the game will become bland. I really like the PVP and dark zone aspect of it...you definitely need to make some allegiances quick and even then you don't know who might go rogue on you...I love that aspect of uncertainty. In any event I despised UBISOFT for the longest time...laughed my ass off on launch day when I got the Romeo error but all in all this game turned the page for me with UBISOFT...I sitll don't trust them but I certainly don't hate them anymore...funny that a game called The Division would bring me back to play UBISOFT games. As for the game itself, after an entire day playing it, I still do not really know how to class it, it is a mishmash of different elements. It has fairly decent RPG elements, character building, skill trees, etc, it has fairly decent shooter mechanics, the actual gun play is ok, the computer A.I. is fairly decent, they team up, and flank, etc, nothing groundbreaking, the quests are pretty basic, go here, collect this, switch this, kill him/her, and here lies the problem, it's fairly decent at most things, but that is about it, It does not excel in any one area. One of the biggest problems was with the 'bullet sponge' effect you get when engaging an enemy with a higher skill level than yourself, I understand this is the nature of RPG gaming, but with the games setting, it feels alien, at one point it took three of us to bring down one npc, with me personally having to reload multiple times, it felt completely wrong considering the games realistic setting. Add to that some lackluster voice acting, forgettable characters, and it all just seems very average.....

Max.lvl can be achieved in a day, and I haven't figured out what's worth to do afterwards. I think ubisoft is going to have a hard time to keep their playerbase playing.

The reason I did give a 6 though are the awesome graphics (I run it on Ultra) and character gameplay. You can modify your character in many different ways with talents, weapons, mods and decide what kind of asset you want to be in your team.(Even though it doesn't really matter, as long as you shoot bullets it's good enough). Hopefuly they'll give this more of a meaning in the future.

    1. The enemies are bullet sponges. This game has an ultra realistic feel to it. The amount of bullets you have to pour into someone to kill them contradicts the realistic feel of the game.

    2. Although it is advertised as an MMO. It actually has a "drop in" style multiplayer like Destiny, Warframe, and Dibalo 3 where you can join other people's games and play with them, but you will never run into another person while out fighting and doing missions. There is one exception to this, the Dark Zone. The Dark Zone is how they can get away with calling this an MMO. It is an open MMO PvP zone where you get the best loot in the game. It's a fairly large zone(About 30-40% of the map).

TLDR: If you like Destiny, Planetside 2, or Defiance, you will probably like this game. Although, the game is not a perfect 10, I will be pouring many late night hours into it with friends.

It is very... very... repetitive. The Story was okay, and I was a little upset when I collected all collectible items, only to just get jackets as a reward. The PVP area just feels... frustrating at times. I can't say that I haven't had fun going Rogue in the Dark Zone, but I also can't say I am having an absolute blast. So after the campaign, this is what you'll do... Loot items, shoot an enemy, loot items, shoot the same enemies, loot items, run, extract, run, shoot the same enemies, loot, run, extract, run, shoot the same enemies.... OVER AND OVER AND OVER.... it get's a little mind numbing.

The PVP area can be fun, if you aren't put at a large disadvantage via numbers game or someone rigging their gear score to stay in a lower tier. if you come across someone who does rig their gear score, then you are NOT going to have a good time. You'll just die... and die... and die... and get loot... then die... I don't really get that mentality. To rig your gear score, you'd be doing the equivalent of pushing empty water bottles over... it'd be too easy. I don't see the fun in that. If your gear score is greater than another player, you will most likely kill them pretty quickly... you'll grab their gear... extract it.. then rinse and repeat...

I know my review seems repetitive, but that is what the game is. Initially you'll have a blast, then it will fade a little after you beat the campaign. Is it worth playing.... yes... Is it worth $60+.... NO! I'd suggest to wait until it goes on sale via PSN. By then the map packs will be out, and it might be worth a buy. Until then, I'd find something else a little more personally rewarding. I hope this helps.

1 point for convincing atmosphere of NYC ravaged by disease. Story telling that doesn't require you to visit a web site outside of the game to know what the heck is going on. The story in this game is told visually. Look around, see dead people clutching their children, rows of flag draped coffins etc. Activate echos to see terribly sad past events happen before your eyes.

1 point for cover system that works. Just like in the real world cover will save your life, use it.

1 point for being a challenging game that forces tactics and team work. Smart AI that will try to flank you but isn't so smart that it knows where you are at all times. You can flash bang a group and move to get the upper hand again.

1 point for making me dream about playing when I finally force myself to turn it off and get some sleep.

1 point because I can't focus at work because all I can think about is getting home to play it.

1 point for weapon customization options that are amazing. Find weapon attachments or craft them. Feels like you're constantly getting better as you find and craft items.

1 point for an amazing skill tree allowing tons of different ways to strategize.

1 point for a rewarding loot system that satisfies you way better than Destiny's loot system. You don't get overloaded like playing Diablo or Borderlands but you will still find yourself breaking items down to make room for new items. When you beat a boss you get multiple items that you can immediately use without being forced to return to base to see if your lottery ticket is worth a damn.

1 point for a crafting system that works. You can find crafting materials or break inventory items down to create materials. You find blue prints as you play.

-1 point for limiting your co-op experience to 4 (Future DLC may offer teams of 8 but that remains to be seen.)

    That's a grand total of 10 points.

Be skeptical of anyone that gives this game a score lower than 5. That probably means they haven't even played it or they're die hard Destiny fan boys. That is because The Division is a serious threat to Bungie right now because it does right a lot of things Destiny got wrong. Destiny 2 could be amazing if they learn from this game.

There are enough positives in this game for even someone that hates playing it to at least give it a 5.

Don't buy in to the hype that the graphics are terrible because it doesn't look like the E3 demo. The game is beautiful. The atmospherics are amazing.

My cons are that I was hoping for a more dramatic story telling. Unfortunately, while there is some story, once again it is not a focus at all. That's disappointing to me. But again, the game is so much fun and is such a unique take as an RPG shooter that it isn't a deal breaker.

Loot system [9/10]: The arsenal is HUGE but generic. The armor doesn't effect appearance really, just stats. Clothing does change appearance but it doesn't carry stats. That being said the RNG is great. It reminds me of borderlands a lot. It is generous but not too generous and it more than scratches that "loot" itch.

Story [8/10]: (I haven't finished so this may be hasty). I'll be honest the story is generic and can be bland. This is an MMORPG much like Destiny was. However, the fact that there is a story gives you a reason to shoot more bad guys. It builds atmosphere and drives motivations out in the open. For an MMORPG it is surprisingly good- it does more than what it needs to do. From the extra videos you find on abandoned cell phones to the many cut scenes and characters- at least it tries to add some context to you actions, unlike other console MMO shooters like Destiny.

PvE [7/10]: The missions are fairly typical. They compose of boss fights, defending stuff, finding stuff, and fetching stuff. There could be more variety with this considering the huge pieces of the world that are dedicated solely to these missions. With that in the open I will disclose that the RPG systems are fantastic. They are deep yet interchangeable. The game manages to allow you to commit to the role of a tank, DPS, or healer. But it also lets you change between them at will. A mid level character can have the stats and perks to be a strong contender in all 3 roles and that is something special.

PvP (Dark Zone [10/10]: This part is AWESOME. The tension built between players is unique and palpable. The dark zone is an open part of the world where you can kill other players or NPCs for better loot. It has a separate leveling system that is barren but the way it plays out is too cool. You can play the dark zone like typical PvE or PvP. You can kill NPCs or other players and collect loot. In order to keep the loot you have to call in a helicopter and extract it. This puts a target on your back and other players/NPCs will come for you and try to take that loot. That tension you feel when sitting across from another player waiting for the helicopter wondering if he will try to kill you and take your **** is something special. It is a great idea and it is well executed.

Setting/graphics/performance [9/10]. New York looks good and yet somewhat haunting. I am impressed at it's size, scope, and appearance. The graphics overall look good considering the size of this game, and it preforms very well. Slight bugs and server issues here and there but overall really good.

This is a strong game overall. While the mechanics could be better it does most everything right. How long I play this game depends on how good the end game is. But as I play along now, approaching level 19, I am having a great time. Where as other similar games like Destiny (an MMO-RPG-FPS-PvP) try to be everything at once the Division commits to its RPG mechanics and its setting whole heatedly. It is worth the $60 and hours of you time.

A lot of the early reviewers here seem to have not taken the time to actually play past the beginning of the game. This game is far from original, but draws upon what makes many other games great. As a former destiny player, I have been looking for something like this. The dark zone alone justifies the cost, and the story is better than expected.

However...when playing more and more of the game I was just more and more disappointed.
There is this infection going on...that is the main cause of all bad things, that is, total anarchy sweeps through NY. You are there as part of a secret agency to correct that..that is the chaos that will overtakenthe city. Basically this means you shoot down gangs. Endlessly. There are some paperthin story aspects to it, but this is what you will be doing. Sounds boring? Well it doesn't have to be but it is. There is very little story bound to who you are wiping down. Or to the other agents. There is some, but it didn't interest me one bit.
To sum it up...the story didn't get me. At all.

Then there is this dreaded bullet sponginess. It should be excused because its the RPG element, but for me it just didn't work. Having more realism would have. Shooting people in the head over and over again without effect because they are more "leveled" just feels off. In another more fantasy lik setting it wouldn't.

The division feels very bland. Streets look the same, they look great, but its more of the same, and more.., enemy's do, hell even the bosses are just very much the same and can absorb an insane amount of bullets.

There is the darkzone where you get killed instantly ifnyou come alone and even with a group, its not as fun as "regular" multiplay games.

What's left is the looting. Thats sorta fun. But a shallow aspect for an entire game.

No the division is not for me.

Let me say first off that this game is hands down some of the most stunning environments and world building I've ever witnessed in a game. It's recreation of and envisioning of a virus stricken New York is stunning, the streets and alleys filled to the brim with detail. Bodies line the sewers, papers blow throw the air, crashed cars line the streets, storefronts looted by vandals. ThisLet me say first off that this game is hands down some of the most stunning environments and world building I've ever witnessed in a game. It's recreation of and envisioning of a virus stricken New York is stunning, the streets and alleys filled to the brim with detail. Bodies line the sewers, papers blow throw the air, crashed cars line the streets, storefronts looted by vandals. This game is a stunning vision of a bio-terrorist attack. Even the weather system, which changes all the time, is a stunning achievement. One minute you could be wondering the dark zone in a clear Winter night, and within a matter of minutes you can hardly see through the swirling snow falling from the skies. Having said that ultimately this game, in my opinion, is a failure. It's story seems shallow, its' characters nothing but cookie cutter characters from your typical Hollywood film. Throughout the game I found myself wondering why bother saving these people, I don't even know enough about them besides their names and the fact that one's paranoid, another's a typical good cop, and another is an abrasive doctor. Half the time I didn't know who the bad guy was. I mean I knew who he was, but the most information I got about him came from an ECHO at the end of the game. And while the crafting system is decent, everything looks the same, and the perks don't feel game changing enough. Now I believe that also has to do with the fact that there is absolutely no enemy variety in this game. There are guys with flamethrowers, guys with shotguns, guys with baseball bats, guys with turrets, drones, and, and this one only shows up once at the end, a helicopter. These enemies don't allow the weapons to shine, to show you why you should choose this perk over that. Even the incursions, advertised as the Raids of the Division, is just you in a room fighting fifteen waves of enemies, all of them bullet sponges, while an APC one shots you and your team. And that's the essential problem with the Division. There's not nearly enough variety where it matters most. In the environment, sure, but in the story, the enemies, the weapons, even your own characters, they're all the same. They all look the same, sound the same, act the same. So unless you want to play a game that literally is just the same from beginning to end, I do not recommend this game. Besides the Dark Zone (And God I hope you have friends for The Dark Zone cause its troll central without them) this game has nothing new that makes it worth $60. It should have cost me more then $40. I have put in only about 5.5 hours so far, but it's already great. Loads of content, missions, gear. Crafting and mods for weapons and armor, along with skills, perks and abilities to unlock. Combat is fun and challenging, and does not seem repetitive or tedious because of the difficulty of taking down some enemies and the variety of weapon types/mods. Co-op is a great feature that is especially fun once you've already cleared an area on your own and want to replay it again with others- or I guess if you can't seem to complete a mission on your own. I've only tried the pvp dark zone once and it was tough going in there so I think I'll level up a bit more and find some players to join me first before returning.

Graphics are impressive and simply beautiful, and for the people knocking them, I guess you weren't around to play NES or Super Nintendo, when it wasn't perfect looking but just fun (though in comparison, The Division is perfect looking). Honestly, the game looks amazing.

    Pros:
Amazing graphics (shut up, spoiled people)
    Addictive gameplay
    Challenging combat
Good narrative gives you a reason to care
    Mods/Crafting
    Ability/Skills/Perk tree
    Co-op and PvP opportunities
    Loaded with missions and content
Doesn't take long to love it

    Cons:
Repetitive phrases spoken by AI (typical for an RPG)
Early AI opponents were sometimes stupid (enemies get MUCH harder as you go on)
    Possible addiction waiting to happen

As you uncover more of the story you start fighting against tougher enemies and the objectives start to change a bit. It still suffers from the majority of the missions being similar but I will say the game is a lot of fun once you've settled in.

Story as you expect from Tom Clancy games is pretty good. The shooting controls feel just fine for a 3rd person shooter, with the option of going 1st person using scopes. You can mod weapons, collect gear, change your appearance and build up your skills.

Matchmaking makes the game a lot of fun, and I recommend putting it on harder difficulty settings cause it's too easy on normal. The map isn't too big but it's big enough. But you should know this is the very definition of a cover shooter. You even have abilities that let you create cover. Taking a lot of hits will kill you very fast, but if you use cover and use your abilities optimally you won't encounter too much difficulty.

All in all it's a fun game to play with some friends... but I would recommend maybe waiting for it to go on sale or wait till they add more content. It isn't breaking new ground but it's not completely unoriginal. It's good, not great but good.

Ubisoft's reputation for repetition will only get worse thanks to this game. It sucks cause their games are visually impressive and they're well designed too. I just wish they would put a little more creativity into the objectives.

It's helpful because in the beta there was this one mission were the enemies were in between the buildings and I had no idea how to get in... Had to circle around the whole **** building just to find the entrance. This waymarker makes it MUCH easier.

There is also crafting in this game! Learn new recipes and craft more powerful loot!
Oh did I mention there is also ACTUAL trading in this game?
And the matchmaking is perfect! there is even matchmaking for freaking free roam! perfect!

Story isn't terribly interesting but isn't terribly boring either.

Missions can be somewhat repetitive... and there always has to be like some final boss in the end of it. Side missions are all the same really, but at least they are quick to do.
Upgrade system is great, not only do you have your abilities like in the beta, but now you have these other perks you can get to make your character even more useful.

Oh and of course you can customize every weapon with scopes, magazines, skins, etc.

And of course there is the dark zone... which I haven't really touched yet because I know there are going to be a lot of high level players there.

It may not be a 10 out of 10, but more like an 8.5 out of 10.... I only gave it an 10/10 to counter those 124 negative scores. The 7.0 is making the game more average than it should...
Like really most of them are just from people who were pissed of at the downgrade or just at ubisoft for what they did in the past.... not necessarily about the game itself.

I won't say it's a Witcher 3, but for me it fits a good looking game category. The soundtrack is not bad, it has its moments, but is not something remarkable.

As for the game itself, the gameplay is exactly what I expected, a combat cover system with RPG elements, people will feel akward puting an entire magazine of an assault rifle on the head of a human and not killing him, but given the kind of game it is, is what you get. I bet you that that is what most headaches has given Ubisoft.

The main campaign has 26 missions with a not very engaging story, you just don't feel in the skin of your character, as happened with Destiny. This doesn't mean the game is over when you finish the campaign, there are many things to do: Collectibles, side quests, explore the DZ, etc. All this can be done in teams or alone. And that is one of the most positive things I've found, the matching system and team search, you can choose what you want to do (missions, DZ, exploration, etc) and it will automatically group you with people looking to do the same things as you, so if you don't have a guild you can always find someone to play with, well done there Ubisoft.

Regarding the PvP, I will miss the competitive game lists Destiny has, but I'll get over it with Overwatch, Paragon and others realesing this year. This PvP is focused more on a survival, strategic teamplay complementing roles. In the DZ you are in tension at all times, but when you see approaching a team of 4 people and you stay 4vs4 aiming at eachother in complete silence... I believe I haven't experienced that tension ever in any other game and that's what I wanted here.

I found a few bugs to date, which in my opinion are serious because they lead to an appcrash where the game blows up or you get thrown back the start menu. My friends have also found several bugs, but this is Ubisoft we're talking about, for the so low standard that I have about their latest games (looking two years back from now) I think it's ok, which is sad, we should demand the best, but this is what the industry has become. I still remember whole groups of NPCs falling from the sky in Assassins Creed Unity... Eventually it will stabilize and they'll fix it with patches, not to worry, it's a nuisance, yes, but you can still play the game.

There is something that many of my fellow Clan members have told me, they are concerned about the time the game while be "alive", they don't believe (and I don't think it either) it will last as long as Destiny in which we've been together for over two years but has finally bottomed out for us since there hasn't been any new content for over half a year ago. The Division brings free DLCs, which is really appreciated by my wallet, and a season pass that will cover the needs of content for 2016. But 2017, with the large number of multiplayer titles that will come out this year and the next one, will be a difficult year to keep the game up, we'll see how Ubisoft surprises us or if they leave us in the lurch.

At the moment I will continue enjoying the game with my friends, because it is what it is, a game that greatly improves playing in the company. Bye!

This game has mechanics that Destiny should have had. I enjoy doing quests and such for EXP and using EXP to level your character rather than just having gear you put on determine your level. Whether playing solo or in groups of four, the game is fun. I think if you merged the two games, you'd have the best game ever but don't sell The Division short. It's great in its own right.

From fine-tuning my character's skills, crafting, modding weapons, and looting (key elements of an RPG) to intense strategic, cover-based shooting - this game is action packed! So when I read one of these kids' reviews complaining about "no substance" "no quality" I had to laugh. That could not be further from the truth. THIS GAME IS BRILLIANT. Do yourself a favor and pick it up today. Invest a few hours exploring, figuring out menus, etc. The amount of time and love put into this game is impressively evident. I've been playing since launch and have only been disconnected for the server once (on launch day) - aside from that, my experience with The Divison has been FLAWLESS. 10/10

The dark zone gets dull after a while, the npc are bland with bullet sponges at every corner during the challenge missions which in the end seem just bad game design.

With a team of people it definitely has fun moments, but I would never want to play this solo.

If the enemies were varied, the voice acting wasn't THE WORST, the AI was smarter, the story was better this game could be amazing. It's a great concept done very averagely. Here's hoping Ghost Recon Wildlands is done right!

I will carry on playing this - but I'm not overly impressed

Some say missions are repetitive, but they're crazy. Yes, the central gameplay mechanic is shooting, and that repeats - it's a shooter. But the tactical variety in the world and level design means no encounter ever feels the same. Vary your tactics, skills, weapons, verticality, etc and each fight is a blast.

Solo or co-op are both viable and fun. Amazing game, world design is absolutely stunning, and plenty to discover and do as you explore this incredible game. Massive is clearly one of the best studios Ubisoft owns. Great job guys, lived up to the hype and then some.

We are told that this is a Tactical RPG, but this really didn't feel much different than, say, SWTOR...but then that'd be an insult to SWTOR because at least there is gameplay that is fun there. The missions are simple: either go fetch or save some schmuck that couldn't save themselves from a wet paper bag with a flashlight and a map. Ad nauseum! Boss fights? Yeah, find the weak spot(s) and shoot. I was bored less when I was doing this in GTA V.

Oh, and I hope you micromanaged your gear, or you're screwed! Don't even get me started on the worthless attire you can pick up...

Glitches and exploits! Get your glitches and exploits here! It's glitch and exploit heaven in this game, and Ubisoft hasn't done jack **** to fix them. Ooooh, they'll ban you if you're caught using exploits in Falcon Lost...how about the other BAZILLION other glitches and exploits that I can find numerous videos on YouTube on inside of 10 seconds??? For every one Ubisoft supposedly fixes, fifteen more pop up immediately.

Dark Zone is pointless for new players as the rewards system was nerfed (along with other things) with the update that brought us Falcon Lost. Unless you were playing from Day 1 and have either done the grind legitimately or have used exploits to rank way up, you'd want to avoid this at all costs (and it's a toss-up even with a party of four if they are higher rank).

Boy did I get fooled when I played the "beta". I was stupid enough to buy the Gold Edition...now I have buyer's remorse. I give it a one only because of the three minutes of fun I had with this game.

Avoid this game like The Clap!

This game is an addictive drug. Be aware before buying it! The gameplay is classic but effective: it works. The loot system is so addictive that you won't be able to stop playing it. The missions are interesting, different, and the best part is playing them in hard mode, in COOP. Playing with friends is an awesome experience, funny and interesting. The map is ok, but it is only useful while leveling. After that, you never visit any of the zones again.

All my friends from Destiny were trying this game and I also enjoyed the idea of a Dark Zone as well as the challenging challenge mode, which had me playing this for a good few weeks.

Then the incursion 'Falcon Lost' came along, it was designed to challenge Destiny's acclaimed Raid where a fire-team collectively worked to overcome a challenge. Going over where it succeeded - the matchmaking which allowed individual players to find a team. Where it failed- everything else, mere days after Falcon Lost launched, players discovered bugs that let players cheese the incursion for the high end reward, honest players ended up falling behind due to this.

Ubisoft then fixed this bug, then there were two more, fix those two and there are four more, you get the picture. Then Ubisoft decided to punish players for exploiting bugs that they didn't address properly by issuing bans/ restrictions - only problem, they have not fixed this mess of a game yet.

At this point, the best best for my friends who have bought the game + season pass is to wait till the paid expansions come out, and to hope for better. When the game came out, I was all excited and dished out money for a season pass, The Division has taught me to actually wait for some time after playing the game to see if you want the season pass - right now, it is one of my most regrettable purchases. 5/10.

This is one of the worst games I ever played. The game is visually beautiful (but empty), but all the budget apparently went into graphics, because it has the worst gameplay of any game I have ever played. Enemies literally take hundreds of bullets to take down (and you fight wave upon wave). Your character is killed with a single bullet or two, or one swing from a baseball bat (which you almost can't avoid, because you MUST reload at least twice to kill the enemy charging with a bat, and he kills you when you go for your second clip). The controls are also terrible. You try to run towards a door to escape the horde of enemies, but the camera "jostles" and you run into a wall instead. This results in death as it takes 20 seconds or so to turn around, line up the door again, and try to run. Yuck. Even worse, he developers crowed that this was a "great" single-player experience (you absolutely, positively can not play this game solo), but that was just a lie. This is the worst game I ever played, but the graphics are amazing and the concept has such great potential. But the gameplay is so bad, it remains the purchase I most regret in more than 15 years of gaming. Expand

Where to start. I've put in over 450 hours on the Division. Most of that time spent in the Dark Zone(the PVP) area. The story itself is very intriguing but how it's fleshed out isn't the best. Missions are very repetitive. Leveling from 1 - 30 was actually quite fun.

And then you hit level 30.

So now in order to accomplish anything you must venture into the Dark Zone to get better gear. Be prepared. You will run into a steady stream of higher leveled, better geared players that will kill you without a second thought. Not for your paltry drops, but for your currency and for **** and giggles. The best part? When you get jumped and killed by another player YOU lose XP, money, keys, and any items you might have gotten.

In essence Massive/Ubisoft has gone out of their way to make a game that actually rewards people being online bullies. It's not uncommon to walk out of the DZ after a few hours and have less XP than when you started and absolutely nothing to show for your time there.

That's part of the problem. The major issue is with Massive itself. This crew of developers has no clue what they want to do with this game. The only thing they have consistently done is ignore their user base.

Things are regularly nerfed without any prior notice. The game is FILLED with glitches that can be exploited to your advantage. In order to get anything of note accomplished in game, you need a group.

The graphics are bland and have an amazing bluish hue at all times. NPC's have maybe 6 skins between each faction. So there isn't much variety.

Hopefully if you purchased the game you weren't stupid like I was and bought the season pass. This "season pass" is an absolute joke. Your reward for spending the extra money? 5 crafting materials a month for the first three months. Just now has Massive implemented bi-monthly "events." These events are nothing more than killing 6 - 8 enemies and getting a supply drop.

If you want a blue print on how to mistreat your customers while taking their money look no further than Massive/Ubisoft.

It builds a strong foundation on the gameplay front, offering up rewarding combat and simple skills, but doesn’t follow that with anything substantial, being content to let the standard end game grind and excellent-yet-stressful PVP try to cover all the questions its writing leaves you with.
