This game will not work without network connection and not all ps4 players have good network.Ubisoft should make it available in offline gameplay. They have said that will be played in offline far before release. And no confirmation before release that this game will work without network.Gameplay maybe good in multiplayer.

Ummm. This game is not great at all. Clunky, sluggish controls. With all the beta time a lot of these bugs should of been squashed before release. Not impressed at all. Luckily got the game for free so I don't feel like I wasted money.

It is clear and apparent that a lot of time was put into the development. In many ways it does so many things right and in few areas does it sell short.

GAMEPLAY - The best aspect of this game so far is the core gameplay. Forget about the RPG elements for now. This is a cooperative tactical shooter at heart. Is it the most realistic? No, but that is to be expected. Its a video game after all. If you want simulation play ARMA. The ability to fire and maneuver and play tactically with a team of 4 is exactly what you'll get with The Division. It is a fun cooperative shooter. Now the enemies are a little "spongy". Some are complaining about this saying " its unrealistic humans would die faster in real life". Yeah that is correct... Good observation, but, nobody complains when their fighting a dragon with a sword that's flying around spitting fire and talking at the same time. Nobody is sitting around saying "this doesn't happen in real life...."
Now when we start talking about the RPG aspect it is a little different than most and it doesn't have the depth that some RPG's on the market offer such as The Witcher. However it still satisfies. This is a numbers game and is a little complicated to soak in at first but any fan of the RPG genre wouldn't complain. After all that's what an RPG is all about. You can explore, buy, sell, craft, upgrade, and loot just like any other RPG out there. The Loot system so far for my play through has been a little unsatisfying but at this point I have not completed the game and cannot fully comment. I spent a few hours in the Dark Zone as well and seemed to have trouble finding something I wanted. Maybe I'm just picky.
Next I want to comment on the controls. I have only one small complaint here. I would pop out of cover all the time when I didn't want to and move around corners when I didn't want to. Well, apparently someone in the dev. team felt the same and put it in the control options to fix both of these issues. Now of course this was purely personal preference and not a legitimate complaint.

It's Diablo 3 with guns, really, nuff said. The funny part is how some people are writing reviews based on a few minutes of downtime with the servers on Day 1. Hilarious, and not representative of if the game works or not. It's a blast to play with friends.

It's not perfect - it needs to be a bit bigger, it needs trading and a clan system and just more content overall - but this game is certainly on the right path - and if they continue this path people will enjoy this game for a long time.

Pros: the environments are not half bad - graphics wise, not the best but in terms of displaying a dilapidated Manhattan, I think it is pretty spot on in terms of what comes to mind. Coop can be super intense - with the right people working together, every key story mission and (especially) Dark Zone exploration is jampacked with enjoyment and adrenaline because it does encourage legitimate cooperation to get things done. Story - while not the most original in many senses, it does fulfill what Tom Clancy novels/games are known for, making it feel like a lot is on the line and manifests itself in an eerily plausible occurrence in the realm of Biowarfare. Customization - the game does have a lot to offer to make sure most people find what type of fighter they would be, be it a rusher with a shotgun or a crit hitting SMG or one who stays back to pick people off with high precision ARs/DMRs, its all there for the choosing.

Cons: To be honest, the biggest issue comes down to the fact that if you are not playing Coop, you are not really maximizing the experience of this game, which I can completely understand because I also enjoy some of my games done solo. Though the game is, admittedly, on the short side, it has the room there to grow even more (maybe it might follow in the footsteps of Destiny where after like 3 expansions, it will come out at as a whole collection for the same price when it would be worth the buy as the smaller issues get ironed out). I personally got the Gold edition, so I don't heavily consider this a big con but I can understand if some people do if they don't have any future DLCs in mind and are upset at what they currently have right now.

If you do plan on a pick up, I encourage you guys to spend the extra 30 and go for the Gold to make sure you got future DLCs covered but if you love playing solo, there are honestly more fulfilling games on the marker for that type of play-style and I implore you to check out other games before investing in this one.

I have no idea what I missed in the beta, or if there were mechanics or elements absent from the beta that make the game far more interesting, but something happened and I can't stop playing the game.

The combat is fun and require legitimate strategy rather than just 'aim shoot bang u ded', and often requires coordination and communication between you and your teammates to effectively tackle an objective. On top of this, the visuals look absolutely fantastic on PS4. The snow-covered streets are an absolute blast to walk around and look at, and there's a sense of barrenness, but executed correctly, unlike games like Fallout 4.

I'll probably update this review as I collect my thoughts for it, but for now I am going to go ahead and say this: if you've been following this game for a while and are still interested in it, it'll absolutely be worth your time and money. I love this game and I can't wait to go back to sink many more hours into it.

I've loved the time I've spent playing it thus far, and I'm certain this is going to be a hugely successful title, and with the content updates to on the horizon, I'll be playing The Division for a long time to come.

Refreshing combo of a real-world setting & weapons with RPG elements, combined with great atmosphere, awesome coop and the highly unpredictable Dark Zone, make this a stand-out game.

Minor gripes (e.g. NPCs repeating lines) are overlooked due to the overall polish and attention to details which is truly stunning in places. Massive are also 100% on board with updating and fixing. They've moved fast with a couple of quick updates to address minor annoyances, and so look to be focused on providing an excellent user experience.

The game started a little slow with similar missions but most games have "training" period so I remained confident that it would soon pick up. After a few more hours of gameplay, sadly it didn't get much better. All of the missions have a grinding, monotonous feel. Also, it takes a full 2 clips of ammo to take down “easy” rioters that can kill you in 2 shots. I knew this was an MMO from the start, but the game really forces you into playing with others as some missions you just can’t get past alone. He played the beta and his description and hopes had me drooling. Aesthetically beautiful. RPG/MMO, challenging game play, full customization, a solid longer term development (3+ years in the making). Was the answer to Destiny? I hoped so.... I was sold.

I went all in. I put a hundo down for the Gold Edition.

    The reality:

Simply put, the game is absolutely beautiful to the eye. Character creation is limited in choice and customization. I read reviews before the release date that said this item would be expanded. If this happened, it was by much. Disappointed, but not a huge deal by any means. BUT this can be taken a step further in regards to acquired gear for appearance. I have certainly found my fair share, but everything seems to be a recolored version of another item. I went from a white jacket, to a grey jacket... later found a blue one. My guys looks just the other two team members. Oh wait, that one guy has a helmet. I can actually tell him apart! Hey buddy name is now "helmet". If we find another helmet, your name will be "blue helmet" tho because you'll look just like the other guy with a helmet.

So that's a little frustrating. Not much variety there.... at all. UNLESS you purchase some stuff from the online UBI store.

Weapons customization is admittedly cool. I think it's lacking on execution. Weapons have thus far run into the same issues in terms of visual variety. However, your instruments of destruction can be upgraded with a variety of accessories, so far the benefits haven't earth shattering but they do give show up visually when added to a weapon. Now here's my BUT. Weapons don't feel as individual as they do in Destiny or even Call of Duty. They pretty vanilla. by any means. This was something that Destiny nailed IMO. At this point, I feel like games should be out performing each other. Kinda feels like a step back in this regard. Also, their random benefits are nearly as cool as Destiny's. I get it tho, this is a separate game, "different game style" blah blah blah. Got it.

Villains. Point blank. Boring as hell. It's a un-felt grind. No crazy maniacs that are losing their minds like in Boarder Lands. The head bosses are very anticlimactic and I hardly notice that I'm battling one until a few minutes into the fight. It usually clicks while I have my cross-hairs zoomed... holy crap, this guy looks a little different! No wonder its taking us 5 minutes to blast riddle him.

The game play itself isn't intuitive, but that perfectly. It takes some getting used too. However, it's not fluid. You find some cover, shoot, and can bound by targeting another location and hold down on the x putting for a short moment. That "short moment" is my point of contention. When you want to scramble, it might not happen unless you have a premeditated plan. Again, this is a different game. Got it. Check.

The rest of the issues I can easily dismiss as just another early bird release. It seems to happen with every game. Even the ones that have been in the planning for from 3 to 10 years). I clip through the ground for no reason, or trying to get into a group causes me to log out. Simple game crashes.... these things happen right? Can't hold it against Ubi.

So I've had the game for three days and took a day off to put in some solid game play. The verdict? I'm bored. I can help thinking that I purchased a beefed up version of the MMO Defiance for PC. I hate to say it but Defiance may have held my attention for a little longer. Just a little.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just like Destiny you need to give this game a chance. I believe the additional content, updates and fixes to the servers will make this one of the best MMO hybrid RPG's to date. For now its kind of a rocky start. For some reason Uplay has issues with online games. Assassins Creed Unity was a good example. Great vision and idea but ended up going south due to the ongoing problems with the servers. Games need to move in this direction; Online campaigns and missions in an open world, playing with your friends like a dungeon crawl with a boss at the end and plenty of loot, customizations and items to collect on the way feels right. The Division's graphics are up to par, some lag during battles when things get crazy. The story gets lost at times and you really are not that interested. But at least they attempt to integrate a story into an MMO kudos for that. Looking forward to the future as I did purchase the gold package with the season pass. Hopefully Uplay has some tricks under there sleeve otherwise it may be a bust. I have faith the game will get better. So far a good fun game looking forward to all the improvements and what could be one of the best games this year. As of now the game gets an 8.0 but looks like it could move to a 10 hopefully soon. The game is a great 3rd person shooter mechanics wise, everything feels good, from taking voer, shooting, switching guns or even throwing grenades or using a skill. Difficulty is solid with Destiny like options to increase difficulty for better loot. The game has a decent amount of content, easily more than Destiny at launch, but clearly the game will potentially be even better with more content in general, it's a good thing, IMO< the game leaves you craving more, and the have planned DLC's the next three months.

The Story is average but the world and graphics are top notch.

The best part for me is the PVP zone, the dark zone, intense fights with high end ads and intense extractions make for some of the best, most unique experiences you'll find.

As launch approached, I tossed those initial doubts aside and purchased the game. I am deeply satisfied that I made this decision!

The Division is moody, dramatic, gritty and action packed. It's a more sophisticated Call of Duty mixed in with a huge open world akin to GTA Online. The RPG elements are abundant and the loot system gives you a feeling of accomplishment and progression. I've never wanted to explore in a game like this just as much as I wanted to shoot things. You can see that the developers put a lot of thought and work into every subtle nuance of the game. Those initial feelings of confusion will probably go away after your first few hours of gameplay. I'm looking forward to playing this game more and more as it expands.

Pros: Graphics, Gameplay, Music, Level Design, Boss Fights, Matchmaking

Cons: Initial learning curve, limited character creation, enemy variety

The amount of effort put into the detail blows me away. If you can afford to upgrade to a 4k experience this game makes it worthwhile.

Game play is solid, shooting is fun and the weapons are varied and customization is a blast. Crafting is good, base building adds a nice element and the world is fun to explore. There is a deep storyline that many players may rush past but it's worth it to try to figure out what happened around you and prior to your entry into post-apocalyptic NYC.

Downsides are that it does get a bit repetitive and comparisons to early days Destiny are not off base. I wonder how long I will stay interested in exploring the same city with somewhat repetitive mission structures. I haven't played a lot of multiplayer and I suspect I will have to to have a real chance at surviving the Dark Zone. I tend to stick to PvE but with The Division you pretty much have to join up to experience the entire game.

I sort of hate that DLC is just a given in today's world and that this is really only what, a third of the eventual game? I can afford the $100 entry fee so I'll go with it and see how I like it after the level 30 cap.

This game reminds me of Fallout 4 with looting, weapons and gear customization. Different areas provide better gear and weapons loot which is a great part of the game and very vast due to the amount of loot throughout the game. The Dark zone is also a great addition to the game which provides the best loot but hardest fights throughout the game, also you will have a separate ranking system for the Dark Zone than your normal game rank which provides a new feel to the game even after several hours into it. However, during my time playing the game the AI has been somewhat buggy, meaning I would be in a battle and enemies will run right into the open and just take my bullets. This does not happen all the time just sometimes. Ultimately, the division is a fantastic game and apart from the buggy AI sometime I would consider it being a 10/10. Expand

I was also worried that the (very well put together) story I was introduced to at the beginning of the game would only be referenced to a few times later on. Luckily, this was not the case. After a few missions at the beginning of the game (which serves as a tutorial) the story was turned on it's head and the atmosphere took a more bleak path. At this point I knew I made a good choice when purchasing this game. The Division is in no way a flawless game or Game of the Year material, but it's a well thought experience and I'm having a blast playing it. Does it do what an MMORPG should do? Yes. Is it fun? Yes. Will I continue to play after the end game credits role? Yes. One thing I look for in games, which I'm sure most people do, is immersion. I feel completely immersed in this game and I love the amount of attention to detail I see whilst roaming the streets of NYC. I'll see a rat and a bird fighting, people trying to get into and steal from cars, people shouting out of their apartment windows, unfortunate civilians dying and much, much more. Another thing I'd like to draw attention to is the soundtrack. I LOVE the soundtrack to this game. It's very reminiscent of "Drive", "Heat" and "Only God Forgives", and fits the game perfectly. I don't feel this game deserves the scores south of 7/10 and I also think the game may be getting these bad scores due to it being an Ubisoft game, who are famous for Watch_Dogs and the multiple disappointing Assassins Creed games. I picked this game up for just £50 (limited edition version) and Battlefront cost me £60 on release. So for £10 less I've got a AAA game with more content. If you're a fan of RPGS, shooters and dare I say it, Destiny, then this is the game for you. Expand

There are a few places that need improvement though: comparing weapons should also include DPS without any attached mods - comparing currently equipped, modded weapon with a newly found un-modded one is meaningless. There are a few technical glitches - I got stuck in a corner behind a door, had to fast-travel to get out the trap ;), and sometimes in single player I hear (for fractions of a second) what seems to be voices of other players.

So, I picked up a copy of the division on release day (I had a special edition pre-ordered) and after waiting in all day I managed to get on it on Tuesday night at 7pm.

I’ve hit it pretty hard over the last few days and have been very impressed by it thus far and I would recommend it to those that enjoy cover based shooters (think GRAW and gears of war). As par the course for an RPG there’s plenty of elements that will get people addicted.

The gun play is excellent, with very realistic gun designs, recoil and sound effects (something the Tom Clancy games have been excellent at since they started). However, I would question the ‘real’ distance them flamethrowers the cleaners use can reach!

The city is visually excellent, and the weather effects are amazing. From a bright sunny day where you can see blocks away, to a blizzard which reduces visibility to near zero, making it harder to not get ambushed, is fantastic.

Multiplayer is seemless with no loading screens after the original match making loading. Working with a team of mates is where this game comes to life. When you do team up, there are more enemies and are tougher as well which is cool and requires more tactics from the group than to just run and shoot. for an added chllenge try replaying missions with some mates on hard difficulty, its insane!

The fabled ‘trades’ of ‘tank’, ‘healer’ and ‘DPS’ have been included but in such a way that it feels seemless. Each player gains access to all talents when levelling up, and can be switched at any point to suit any situation. Having different selections for each player helps though! The amount of emphasis to each ‘trade’ is added to by the gear you wear and is staple to how you craft and keep the loot you have won from encounters and missions. It feels very well rounded thus far.

I ventured into the Dark Zone alone, which is the main PVP area, however I misread the level requirement and got smashed before I got 100 metres in, but I did see someone trying to extract the gear they got whislt exploring the dark zone, and they got ambushed by NPCs and some players were looking on waiting to pick it up should he die (its everyman for themselves in there!). i have since been in with some mates and it was an absolute balst. Totally different to the main game, you have to survie trying to get loot, then survive further when extratcing loot, its great!

All in all, great game. I can see myself spending some serious time on this!

People compare it to Destiny, which is incorrect as it’s a different type of game. Destiny was for all intents and purposes an arcade shooter; the division isnt. you need to use your cover and think about the fights not just run in! There was also no story with destiny (they could tell you the story but they don’t have time……) to which I need in a game. The division stands on its own and hopefully its longevity will be ensured by the DLC that’s due to come out.

The thing that killed it for me though, is that there is too many things going on the screen at once. "Press x here and here or there, press circle here, hold square, here is a really big box for your weapon status info" nothing is subtle. In addition to a lot of user interface features that seem like an afterthought.

However this is The Division, a third person action game.

It says tons when a company put an embargo on a game but this game had no embargo, because Ubisoft decided there would be no review copies given out to reviewer. After playing the game I know why.

First of the enemies are bullet sponges. When you empty a clip to an enemies head and he keeps on coming there is some majorly wrong. It is amazing how much damage this enemies take. You can run out of bullets just on four enemies because they just do not go down. I have no idea what Massive was trying to accomplish by doing this other than annoy the player. I do not see why a human enemy has to be a bullet sponge. I understand monsters, aliens or even armored soldiers but these are just plain thugs. It is so effen annoying it make me want to scream. Even Destiny with all it problems did not have all these bullet sponges and they were aliens.

Then the games suffers from bad designs and invisible walls. When you are faced with a open sidewalk and you can't get across due to some invisible wall it is so annoying. In the mission when you have to get a guy who is in charge of power and you can't jump unto a wall only to be spotted by a thug with a fire gun.

Finally, the controls are horrendous. I cannot begin ti describe how bad they are. You have all this loot and you are bound by what level you are at. What is the use of giving items if you can use them until a later level. At this point I am so disgusted at the game that I'm about to call Ubisoft to get my money back.

A lot of people gave Bungie a hard time for an unfinished game but in my opinion this is worse. Shame on you Ubisoft, shame on you.

I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to make a point that I see no one making. No, The Division isn't gonna redefine how we play games. No it doesn't live up to the impossible hype that all triple A games face these days. But no one is talking about the fact that there is nothing on the market like the division, besides Destiny. And because The Division is based on reality, I feel like it resonates more for a hardcore gamer. The graphics are outstanding, the atmosphere is great, the gameplay is challenging and deep. And most of all, the game is a lot of fun.
My cons are that I was hoping for a more dramatic story telling. Unfortunately, while there is some story, once again it is not a focus at all. That's disappointing to me. But again, the game is so much fun and is such a unique take as an RPG shooter that it isn't a deal breaker.
Anyway, I just wanted to stress the fact that The Division serves a need for a great RPG Shooter that is like nothing else on the market, and in that sense, it is a resounding success

If you wish to play in the Dark Zone, it is recommended to play with friends. The only downside about this game is the occasional glitches, where enemies glitch through objects and when you might be reading a tutorial, then it disappears right away. There are also some sound issues every once in a while, but that doesn't take anything away from the game.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Try to get a buddy or two to play with you. It's much more fun that way.

As you uncover more of the story you start fighting against tougher enemies and the objectives start to change a bit. It still suffers from the majority of the missions being similar but I will say the game is a lot of fun once you've settled in.

Story as you expect from Tom Clancy games is pretty good. The shooting controls feel just fine for a 3rd person shooter, with the option of going 1st person using scopes. You can mod weapons, collect gear, change your appearance and build up your skills.

Matchmaking makes the game a lot of fun, and I recommend putting it on harder difficulty settings cause it's too easy on normal. The map isn't too big but it's big enough. But you should know this is the very definition of a cover shooter. You even have abilities that let you create cover. Taking a lot of hits will kill you very fast, but if you use cover and use your abilities optimally you won't encounter too much difficulty.

All in all it's a fun game to play with some friends... but I would recommend maybe waiting for it to go on sale or wait till they add more content. It isn't breaking new ground but it's not completely unoriginal. It's good, not great but good.

Ubisoft's reputation for repetition will only get worse thanks to this game. It sucks cause their games are visually impressive and they're well designed too. I just wish they would put a little more creativity into the objectives.

So far the biggest enjoyment of this game is the challenge. The game's missions so far can be a tough trial to progress through and only make the reward that much sweeter and the teamwork more vital.

I have only experienced a couple times of poor server performance but other wise it has been fine.

The game is very fun and has a great social aspect to it. The PvE definitely mode is great fun with friends. The main story line missions can be played on 3 levels- Normal, Hard and Challenging. Each mode gives you greater gear toward your progression of being the ultimate agent. I do wish that there were more of a populated PvE world with other players running around. in the current state of writing this review, It's either you alone or with a group of invited friends.

The Dark Zone (PvPvE) is a great test of one's abilities. Not only do you need to watch out for mobs (AI enemy), but you also need to watch for the rogue agent that is hellbent on taking your loot or griefing you while in a firefight and your health is low. They come right behind you and blast you a few times, take your loot and you respawn without the loot you acquired while in the Dark Zone and lost some DZ xp, DZ currency and DZ lock box keys.

I was a bit disappointed at the fact they downgraded the graphics but that is pretty minor. The current environment is immersive, fantastic and almost true to NYC (I grew up there).

There are some reviews that many of the missions are repetitive and that is true. This is a great foundation and while we all would love variety like GTA5, we definitely can see great things that can be made going forward. I have played on the PS4 console and haven't had many issues with frame rates. I moved the settings to make it more appealing and haven't seen much of a draw down on system resources.

They could make your protagonist (character) better by including dialogue and not just sit there like a boob while others talk to you. The lack of voice script or show of emotions wedges a barrier between the player and their connection to the playable character. It is like Destiny where your character is the silent type that everyone talks to, but you don't respond. I am not trying to sway people in either way about this game. It's a great game that has the frame work of a dynastic RPG style game. I believe with careful consideration, listening to the players and making adjustments to develop a sense of connection of the player to the character, this game can be a benchmark raising game.

A lot of people have railed against this game due to repetitive gameplay and I'm not sure I understand why. Missions typically have varied goals that are achieved by generally shooting enemies in your way. If you think that's repetitive, you're in the wrong genre. In a game about shooting, people shoot things and get shot at. One reviewer commented on a lack of feedback from the guns, if you shoot someone, you get markers and sfx for headshots. What more do they want? Balloons and confetti?

Additionally, the most unique design in this whole game is the Dark Zone. This is a free-for-all, pvp, loot fest where players are going to have some great stories to tell from their first excursion. In short, the Dark Zone is a place where players can go (in a group or on their own) to hunt the most desirable loot in the game. Other players roam the zone with you and can either help you kill enemies or kill you. This builds a huge atmosphere of suspense to this already intense zone.

    Build-It-Up:
    - Solid gunplay
    - Beautiful graphics
    - Great teamwork
    - Cool mechanics
    - In-the-moment character customization
    - Rewarding loot cycle
    - The Dark Zone
    - Atmosphere is incredible

    Break-It-Down
    - Missions could use more guidance (a little TOO much freedom)
    - Character customization is weak (better than Destiny or any other shooter but not quite RPG territory)
    - Gun sfx are weird
    - Latency issues can happen

1 point for convincing atmosphere of NYC ravaged by disease. Story telling that doesn't require you to visit a web site outside of the game to know what the heck is going on. The story in this game is told visually. Look around, see dead people clutching their children, rows of flag draped coffins etc. Activate echos to see terribly sad past events happen before your eyes.

1 point for cover system that works. Just like in the real world cover will save your life, use it.

1 point for being a challenging game that forces tactics and team work. Smart AI that will try to flank you but isn't so smart that it knows where you are at all times. You can flash bang a group and move to get the upper hand again.

1 point for making me dream about playing when I finally force myself to turn it off and get some sleep.

1 point because I can't focus at work because all I can think about is getting home to play it.

1 point for weapon customization options that are amazing. Find weapon attachments or craft them. Feels like you're constantly getting better as you find and craft items.

1 point for an amazing skill tree allowing tons of different ways to strategize.

1 point for a rewarding loot system that satisfies you way better than Destiny's loot system. You don't get overloaded like playing Diablo or Borderlands but you will still find yourself breaking items down to make room for new items. When you beat a boss you get multiple items that you can immediately use without being forced to return to base to see if your lottery ticket is worth a damn.

1 point for a crafting system that works. You can find crafting materials or break inventory items down to create materials. You find blue prints as you play.

-1 point for limiting your co-op experience to 4 (Future DLC may offer teams of 8 but that remains to be seen.)

    That's a grand total of 10 points.

Be skeptical of anyone that gives this game a score lower than 5. That probably means they haven't even played it or they're die hard Destiny fan boys. That is because The Division is a serious threat to Bungie right now because it does right a lot of things Destiny got wrong. Destiny 2 could be amazing if they learn from this game.

There are enough positives in this game for even someone that hates playing it to at least give it a 5.

Don't buy in to the hype that the graphics are terrible because it doesn't look like the E3 demo. The game is beautiful. The atmospherics are amazing.

I'm not going to tell you to run out and buy this game but my friends and I are having a blast playing it and if you like shooters and RPGs you'll most likely have fun playing it too.

Subsequently these factors combined with a lack of variety in the main story left us underwhelmed at the end of The Division. You should, however, spend time in The Division for its atmosphere; its beautifully crafted city is a true accomplishment. The dark zone PvP is great fun but requires a lot of dedication from the player but can so easily turn into a grind.

The best way to play The Division, is to load it up and go exploring, take your time to simply see what the city has to offer. Then team up with friends to alleviate the inevitable grind.

Since Splinter Cell ubisoft have never got it quite right. The reason for this? They are stuck in a time warp; their games are basically off line type story games. I mean, to throw a grenade (in real time in a gun fight), you have to press the button, get the curser to where you want and press the same button again. After some time we are all quite capable of judging where it will land so let’s just press the button once. The smallest of ledges require a button to jump over. Yes the graphics and scale of the map are great but is this what gets people coming back to play a game again and again. No, it’s gameplay. Tons of people are still playing MW2, and it’s not for the graphics. Look at Rainbow 6 Siege multiplayer, I defy anyone to say that this is quality online gameplay, it’s dreadful. Developers are always seeking to improve things, and rightly so, it just seems that improvements are all about more, more controls, larger maps, more options, more guns (some of which are really the same in this game) etc. COD has not been improved in the slightest for the jumping, running along walls addition, this is just an add on for the sake of change. I played Division last night and when we had to kill the female boss, my friend just stayed way back and shot a few bullets at a time into her as she run back and forth along the balcony bit. Rather like playing MGS a decade ago. All this, of course, is just my opinion; however I think the sayings “bigger is not always better” and “less is sometimes more”, well applies to the modern online games we are seeing. Expand

A very enjoyable cover-based shooter with some tense online multiplayer gameplay, and a whole lot of heart and soul. When I'm not playing it, I'm thinking about playing it, and its been some time since I've felt that way about a game. 8/10.

Two gripes: 1. You don't encounter real-world players while exploring the game world, only at communal safe-houses and in the dark-zone. 2.

    2. Character creation is very limited, which I understand will frustrate many (however, I happen to like that it doesn't overwhelm you with options, but each to their own!)

The Division has been and continues to be a great experience. The amount of quest and difference in the quests is surprising. It has also brought a few of the friends I have made through other games back to playing together. It is a great game to solo and the story and amount of "intel" available to find is astounding. The Division doesn't try to be another Destiny, it defines itself in the details and offers a much larger and certainly more interesting world than its obvious contender. With so much to do from day one, it will take most players weeks to max out their characters and, even if they do max out quickly, there's the very competitive Dark Zone where you and your friends can try to fight for more impressive gear. While players might find the story a bit distant for the first several hours of gameplay, knocking out main story missions and engaging in bits of filler story scattered throughout Manhattan will quickly begin to paint a picture. Of course, players that stray a bit might find themselves trying to remember why they're out doing some seemingly-random tasks. The biggest opportunities for improvement lie in The Division's cover system, which usually functions well but has a few quirky glitches now and then that might frustrate you in a moment of combat. Where Destiny wants you to replay every single mission over and over to push forward as a player, The Division is built to be progressed through a story that isn't told through heavy repetitive missions. In fact, you'll never be encouraged to replay a mission unless you found it fun or need to recap what's going on with the story in that specific mission. Otherwise there are always new missions to play through until the very end (level 30 at launch). Graphics are solid, albeit not quite as impressive as they were three years ago when the game launched. This is unfortunate since the Snowdrop engine being used by Ubisoft is very powerful. Though we don't get the greatest visual experience on consoles, the visuals are still strong - especially when you consider this is a massive world. Even things like heavy snowfall and fog can play a vital role in visibility in some cases. Perhaps the most encouraging news is that Ubisoft isn't pressing for your hard-earned cash right away. The first few minor DLC packs will be free, with a pair of major DLC expansions that will really stretch the game - all within The Division's first year. Where Destiny is a bumbling mess when it comes to the long-game, The Division is much more strategic and engaging right from the get-go. If you can appreciate the third-person shooter viewpoint and dig open worlds that encourage social engagement then The Division is worth a try. Expand

Awesome experience for anyone who enjoys a solid MMORPG. A lot of the server issues have been ironed out within hours of launch by a dedicated team. Couldn't recommend it enough.

The atmosphere in the game is wonderful. Environmental art and sound are top class, there seems to be plenty to keep us all occupied, and I'm looking forward to the Dark Zone and PvE challenges to provide a solid end-game experience.

I'm also hugely enjoying the social aspects of the game. I'm generally doing main and side missions with friends, and then spending solo time wandering around scavenging for materials and all the other collectables that exist. It's a lovely having these different engagement modes inside the same game.

This game is an addictive drug. Be aware before buying it! The gameplay is classic but effective: it works. The loot system is so addictive that you won't be able to stop playing it. The missions are interesting, different, and the best part is playing them in hard mode, in COOP. Playing with friends is an awesome experience, funny and interesting. A must have an a great game for 60$

Super immersive game, the co-op is smooth as hell ! Played the closed and open beta and I really appreciated my experience. I played roughly 10 hours and it don't get borring when you're in co-op mode. At last a game challenging Destiny but in our time. Go buy it !

It won't win converts to the genre and the plot is problematic, but The Division is a handsome open-world offering, spiked with treachery. [May 2016, p.81]

That's the essential nature, and essential problem, of The Division's underlying structure. It's asking you to hunt gear with no tangible reward in terms of what you can do, how you do it, or what you look like doing it. [May 2016, p.108]

It builds a strong foundation on the gameplay front, offering up rewarding combat and simple skills, but doesn’t follow that with anything substantial, being content to let the standard end game grind and excellent-yet-stressful PVP try to cover all the questions its writing leaves you with.
