The Legend of Korra is rife with potential that sadly goes unexplored. While combat is satisfying and the animated series is visually well represented, it lacks the tactical depth to entice hardcore action gamers and the storytelling to truly satisfy fans of the show.

Platinum Games may not have made a Legend of Korra game that plumbs the same well of soul that the source material does, but they've made something elementally entertaining all the same.

If you ate up titles like Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or Devil May Cry because of their fighting systems, Korra is your game. It's just a shame that the narrative is so far removed from the quality we have come to expect from the series.

It feels like a game they just have to do, quick and within a limited budget. Still, it is fun and once everything is unlocked the combat system get deeper than we though.

It feels cheap, it feels rushed, and it is also very short.

The Legend of Korra doesn’t have the budget of a full retail release and it shows. The levels feel empty, there’s very little variation in enemies, you’ll fight the same ‘boss’ multiple times, and everything just feels scaled down.

Not the usual great Platinum Games production, but if you’re a fan of the TV show or of action games you may find something interesting here.

The Legend of Korra fails to fulfill its potential. With a little more money and time, it could have been a good surprise; as it is, we can barely advise it to the fans.

Korra lacks the heart and extravagance of Platinum’s best work, but it is, at the very least, a step above the absolute dross Activision often releases for licensed properties.

For fans of the series, the four to six hour completion time coupled with good replay value will make the cheaper price tag worth a shot. For everyone else, though, this is a sometimes enjoyable but largely forgettable action romp.

Korra's fiction and Platinum's development lineage impart a veritable dream team of narrative and design, but neither party seemed to bring the necessary hardware to live up to their respective and respected standards.

It might not live up to Platinum Games’ sky-high pedigree, and you might be compelled to call it their first misstep, but The Legend of Korra is a good starting point if you want to see what Platinum Games are all about.

It may not be the deep and massive game The Legend of Korra deserves, but this game is still a nice little beat'em all by Platinum Games.

The Legend of Korra is a game that has a clear understanding of the source material, but without the budget to really dig in and do that material justice.

The Legend of Korra is a game for true fans of the character. Halfway between a generic, low-profile game and something which could have been much better, with lots of untapped potential.

There's brilliance here... but unfortunately it's almost completely obscured by general clumsiness and hasty game design. A rush job pur sang.

The Legend of Korra has its moments, but with terrible boss fights and an awful villain, it doesn't respect the qualities of the TV series.

The Legend of Korra is a great TV series that is ripe for a strong video game adaptation, and Platinum has laid the groundwork for an interesting combat experience. However, missteps in balancing, combat timing, and level design add up quickly, and even Korra’s sassy quips can’t pull the game back from the brink.

The Legend of Korra is a fun game, but could have been a lot better. It misses the complete point of the series and doesn't offer any depth. Aside from that the game is just simple, but entertaining.

The Legend of Korra is proof that everything Platinum touches doesn’t automatically turn to gold. An interesting combat system can’t contend with the utter mediocrity that is layered on top of it. Even Korra fans may find it difficult to get through the short playtime.

It has glimmers of smart ideas, and the developer could have been a perfect fit, but it just doesn't live up to its potential. It feels rushed and dull, and the show deserves better.

It is obvious Platinum Games know their Avatar/Korra universe, but the game feels too constricted by its own fictional setting to really let itself go a bit crazy. Combat works fine, but lacks depth, and the length of the game incredibly short.

Sure, Platinum has made flawed games before, but nothing nearly so bland or as uninspiring as this. [Christmas 2014, p.120]

The story is shallow, the characters are shallow, and the world is shallow. It’s bewilderingly underdone; there’s very little content and it doesn’t really engage with its source material.

The Legend of Korra is a poor title that offers little in the way of fun. The combat is the highlight, but even then it mostly consists of button mashing and has multiple irritating elements.

The worst game Platinum has ever made, and thanks to its sheer incompetence and banality almost the Bizarro World opposite of Bayonetta.

Well it's for me. I'm the perfect demographic for this. I mean it’s not the longest game, but it's not a full AAA action game. It's a minor release from a smaller studio who make pretty fun action games and this definitely fits the bill.

Gameplay: The bending is awesome and makes me feel powerful which is exactly what I wanted from an Avatar game. The combos are simple, but the complexity comes from mixing the different styles of bending which each have their own effects and feel, not from a million button combos.

Story & Presentation: The story is okay, not amazing but it's serviceable and has a lot of nods to fans of the series. Plus the animated cut scenes help set the mood. The graphics are good, the levels themselves are a little bland, but the cell-shaded style fit the world perfectly. Now the bending animations themselves are gorgeous, and all the different bending styles have subtle visual cues. Also the music is great and matches the series.

Overall: This game isn't breaking any new ground, but if you're a fan of the animated series you'll likely have a good time feeling like a bending master.

I have read other reviews and it really depends what you are looking for. For $15, it provides the enjoyment I expect. I would have paid $20 but that is probably because I am a fan of the series and was wishing for a Korra game. I recommend it if you do enjoy the Korra series and want to be part of this world for sometime. If my view changes for this game, I will come back to change the review. Full Review »

I'm having a great time, but don't expect this to have the same level of writing as the series. It pushes all the buttons that the Dynasty Warriors series does - It gives you incredible powers, and tons of enemies to plow through, while playing in the universe of your choice. If you've ever thought about using a water whip to drag someone close to you just to smash them with earthbending, then this is probably for you. Full Review »
