    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Las of us is undoubtedly one of the best narrative driven games that I've ever played. For seven whole years I have been hyped for a sequel now, and I wasn't completely disappointed. Naughty Dog did deliver on the graphics and gameplay front, a lot. I have absolutely no complaints for them from that standpoint. However, the game begins to fall apart from the second part of the story development arc. I'll go more in detail about this now, so warning for major spoilers ahead.

    The decision to kill Joel and create a whole plot based on revenge was, although a bit generic and cliché, a good one to create a sense and thirst for vengeance and revenge in the player. That way we could 100% relate to Ellie and as a result her motivations. The decision about letting us play as the killer of Joel was also a good one, albiet was not executed properly at all, which is as good as it being a bad decision. I get what the writer was trying to do, to create a moral gray ground for the reader. To make the reader empathize with both characters motivations. But I really don't think they succeeded on that, and that's because of the simple fact that this new character Abby was not developed in the story arc. The players never got enough exposure to her, and so could never try to find the spark that would trigger emotions for her. The player however has been exposed to Ellie and Joel for an entire game in the past, and so ended up biased and hating Abbie. I think if the writer had just planned to let the player play as Abbie from the start, right from her childhood. Without ever mentioning Joel or Ellie for the first part of the game, but then put forth Ellie and let her play and kill the characters that we had spent half the game forming a bond with, maybe then this idea would've worked?

    Even so, I don't think that adding a generic revenge quest was the right decision. Like, of all the possible plot movers, why did the writer decide to use the most generic and bland and already overused plot opener? Maybe they could've made the plotline where Jackson is overrun by a massive horde of infected, where Joel sacrifices himself to save Ellie. Most people die, and the few that remain alive start to fight amongst themselves from the pressure, and two sides are formed. Then Ellie and her friends end up killing the other side. Now they have to run from the infected, and have to try and survive anyway possible. With nowhere to go, the struggle for survival as they keep scavenging and hunting and barely manage to keep themselves alive from the infected as they roam the ruins of the world, and maybe at this point of the plot slowly people start dying one by one, until its just Ellie left alone. Then we could have a flashback of her saying that the biggest fear she has is of being left alone, which by a cruel twist of irony, she is now forced to face. As she trudges along, hoping to find some sort of settlement who's rumours she heard was somewhere very far apart. The last of us, the original game had us traveling a lot. Struggling to survive from place to place and the sense of desperation and the fact that death was literally around any corner was a very real threat. It was something that attracted players to it. The sequel, does have that feeling too but I think its completely lost and falls flat, since the motivating factor to be put I to that life and death situation, that is revenge, just does not sit well. And even if the writer wanted to make this a game about revenge, then they should've let us play as only Ellie, who does manage to loll everyone, even Abbie, but in the process begins to lose her own morality and her own mind. She realizes that she has become a monster, that she is just a shell of a human being and that she has become just like Joel. She struggles to find peace even after taking revenge, as her guilty conscience for what she's done slowly starts to eat her up from the inside. Maybe something like that would've been a good flow of conflicting emotions, as the player themselves struggle to play as Ellie, as they keep watching her slowly lose her mind and go completely crazy with PTSD she caused for herself.

    Another fact that I can't overlook is the complete lack of any or minimalism character development in the relationships of Ellie with her friends or even the fact that she hated Joel. There were minimal interactions between Ellie and Joel, which I was hoping to see more of. Also even if there were interactions, it always lacked the feeling of love and emotions that should've been there. It just felt...empty and fake and forced. Overall, Naughty Dog did a splendid job from the game design and graphics perspective, but a huge part of the franchise; the narrative experience is where everything falls apart. A major piece of the puzzle for the last of us franchise is its narrative experience, and they couldn't succeed in that department. It pains me to see the sequel I was hyped for end like this. 4/10    … Expand

TLOU 1 is an amazing game mainly because of its excellent story. However, in TLOU 2, ND provide a false trailer to mislead the gamers and destroy the perfect story in Part 1 The plot is full of ridiculous and unreasonable part. Joel becomes a old man with low alertness and no resistance towards crisis. This is totally different from TLOU 1. Also, the ending is a **** Ellie's objective is revenge but she gives up to kill Abby after she already kills hundreds of enemies. This is non-sense. At last, fk you Neil Druckmann, fk you ND. I suggest all of you that stop buying any ND and Neil's game. We should boycott the liars.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the game. However, I just can't accept what Naughty Dog did with the main antagonist. Her origin story and character development was good but I don't feel great playing her for almost half of the game.

    Definitely it has different narrative, the first "Tragedy-Drama" game that I've encountered. It challenges the player's stance and moral regarding Hate and Guilt. Could have been better if players have the power to choose how the game ends. Well I guess it is what it is.

    Performance and technical wise the game is at the top. I have no complaints with these aspects whatsoever. Naughty Dog obviously gambled with this game. I wish they've found all the praise and criticism helpful for their next project.    … Expand

    This game is a disaster. The character development is flat, and I don't care about Abby, even Ellie. The gameplay and artistic value had huge potential but, I felt that it was decent this time around. They should have kept the narration and flow simple but effective.

Yes, an apocalyptic world is a hard and gruesome one and humans are vile creatures, but humans are also empathetic, hopeful and have the ability to act morally. With humans there is always darkness and light, but the light that was so beautifully interwoven into the harshness of the first game is missing entirely. This is Game of Thrones Season 8 and Glenn's death in the walking dead all over again.… Expand

So, I just finished the game and I have mixed feelings about it, the graphics, design are incredible, although the gameplay is not very different from the first, because with all the time they had could have added more elements. However, it is such a hot garbage of a story that no gameplay nor graphics can save you from this disappointment 7 years in the making. This abomination is a disgrace to its predecessor.     The appeal of this game as his predecessor is the plot. This is a heavy plot-based game where characters are the most uninteresting and the decisions feel forced. It's also a long game, if you watch a 2 hour movie and is trash at least it was a short experience, this game lasts 25 hours and doesn't redeem his poor writing at any point.

    Best game i've ever played. Anyone will be on a great journey and will learn a lot about new and old characters, but a lot about himselfs too. A great masterpiece with a perfect ending, I love it! Thanks Naughty Dog for this game

    This story is not trash at all. I understand what ND was going for. The idea is absolutely brilliant. It is just the execution of that story that is a little bad. It would have been better if Abby was developed as a likeable charecter early on in the game. And instead of Joel saving Abby...Abby should have saved Joel... Aber ein Spiel so zu verkacken nur weil man auf der angesagten Welle mitschwimmen will ist eine Bodenlose Frechheit von Naughty Dog. Ich werde dieses Studio definitiv nicht mehr unterstützen und mir nie wieder ein Spiel von Naughty Dog zulegen. Mir egal ob man nur provozieren wollte oder aufmerksamkeit erregen um sich selbst zu pushen, man muss ja nicht jeden **** unterstützen.

    Algunos personajes dan la sensación de que han sido creados más para cumplir la agenda ideológica actual que otra cosa. La manera en la que muere Joel me parece ridícula. La historia es muy floja, simplemente es una historia de venganza clásica. El final del juego debe valorarlo cada uno porque eso es ya cuestión personal, a mi particularmente no me ha gustado nada. Cuando he termindo el juego, lo he acabado con la sensación de que he jugado más con Abbie que con Ellie.

Joel is a terrible person and more than deserved what was coming to him. The only problem I had with TLOU2 was that the pacing was really off along with abby's story, you give medicine to this girl but it doesn't matter because she just gets killed anyway. It just wastes your time. The story is also very contrived, things just happen and people just show up randomly throughout the story.… Expand

This game dragged on in the second act for so long. Thats when i realized i wasn't having fun, the best parts of this game is with Joel & Ellie and that says alot right there.     I rate the game separately from part 1 because I never played part 1. I just watched a summary of the story from part 1, so I understand what happens in part 2. So I can rate the pure game without having to compare it with part 1. I played through the title on "normal" in about 21h!

    Let's anticipate the positive: The graphics, sound and the ambience of the environments are really on an excellent level. Most of the work and is definitely in the 3D models and mapping. The different areas in which you move around are quite varied and beautiful in themselves. Especially the woods are beautiful and invite you to stay. The first 2 hours of the game are very captivating and you definitely want to know what happens next.

    Unfortunately, these were all positive things that come to my mind at first go.

    Up to the point where it happens you realize how deep and touching the story could be. Exactly at that point the story stops for 16 hours. There are always flashbacks, some of which are totally irrelevant and could not really contribute to the story. What was even more annoying was the Xth review of the review. In general I find it absolutely annoying even in movies when you try to explain something by looking into the past for the 5th time. I find a constructive story much more understandable than one that looks back and forth. Many flashbacks could have been finished in 5 minutes. Many of these retrospectives were only artificially extended in an outrageous way. I often forgot what happened 6 hours ago, because I've been loitering and killing stupid enemies for hours. Of course there were always short story moments in between. But if we are honest, they were extremely rare and quickly forgotten. The last 2h were really exciting and very well staged. If I break that down I had about 4h of good moments and 17h of running from house to house and killing stupid enemies. The idea of the story is unfortunately nothing special! Person 1 kill person 2 who totally liked person 3 and person 2 wants revenge on person 1. I mean we often saw and played exactly that way. there were not really any twists or surprises during the whole story that would have been good for the story. The end was already relatively clear after 2h and came 0 surprisingly. In the end, it would have been better to add more twists and push the whole story to 6h or 8h and not extend the whole crap to over 20h. I would have preferred to have 8h of action and story all the way through rather than having to wait all the time. The part with Abby was, I think, also much too long.

    If you want to talk about the opponents and the AI, you have to say clearly that I was not challenged much. The AI of the people running with us is on the level of a toast. The AI runs into the middle of the battlefield and stands in the middle of it until you attack. Even worse are the enemies that were right in front of you and the AI that runs with me and does exactly nothing. Whether they're human or zombie. Although the AI has often flanked in battle, but that was often easy to avoid by just lying down in the grass. Often I had the problem of missing ammunition. Especially before the few boss fights there was much too little ammunition. The rat king just annoyed me, because I went into combat with barely 20 shots in total. Sure, it could be that I stopped trying to find every boring house at some point but you never know when a boss is coming. The only thing I found cool was that you could always play stealth or aggressive.

    You can't complain much about playing. The behaviour of the character while running, running, climbing etc. was really well implemented. The technique with the rope was really very good. But that was the only technique you seemed to rest on. At some point the rope throwing became really boring. The weapons in general are varied and it always makes sense to use different weapons on different opponents. The skill tree was interesting but not really decisive in the fight.

    So what can you say as a conclusion? The game is good but unfortunately story-wise much too boring and playfully much too monotonous. After a certain time you only run from house to house or floor to floor and kill and plumb. In between there were always some short story moments. The idea of being able to play the antagonists half of the game is good, but it was just annoying here and was much too long. If I use the 100% rating scale, I would give the game 69%. The game only shines graphically but otherwise only very rarely in the story.

    Realism, fine it’s an apoplectic world and people would lose everything, but cmon it is just a game that we waited 7 years for and the main reason most of us loved the first one was the Ellie and Joel relationship. There were plenty of other options such as Dina or Tommy getting killed and the story goes from there. This is what the trailer those years ago suggested. Also, I stand by my point that Joel died in a ridiculous way. Did he deserve to get killed? He did wrong definitely but at least let him die saving Ellie.
    People mentioned about letting Abby live because of taking care of Lev, tbh that’s fair and I can understand that.
    Is this good story telling? Personally no as it’s a normal revenge plot but again it’s up to you.
    Is the ending bad? Depends on how you see it, personally yes.
    Does it make sense? Ellie became a mom so I can see it as Lev was there so she let Abby go, still upsetting as Joel never gets the justice he deser    … Expand

    Can't see much progress in game system since LOU1. Most of all, horrible story. Even though Naughty Dog sacrificed main characters of LOU1 for their storyline, I never couldn't understand Abby and even Ellie. This game is just a waste of money. I would rather play Warcraft Reforged instead of this crap.

Not only did they kill off one of the best characters that made this game what is is. But to then force me to play as the chick that’s actually kills Joel for HALF THE GAME In a side story I could care less for is absurd. My excitement for the game slowly drained always as another chapter started in which I had to play Abby. It really is a shame. The ending was even worse… Expand

The game simply does not live up to its predecessor in terms of story. Returning characters are badly written and the majority of new characters are instantly forgettable. The ending offers no real narrative or emotional payoff making you ask yourself “What was the point?” This lack of closure makes the violence feel perverse – falling into the clichéd “violence for violence’s sake” trope.
    Where this game does shine is of course in its visual presentation. The game is stunning to look at and can be forgiven for acting like it knows it a times. The mechanics are immersive (while perhaps repetitive) and the AI is for the most part excellent. Inclusion of new in depth accessibility options feels like a real game changer which may prove to be a staple for future AAA titles.
    As a massive fan of the series' first iteration this is an imperfect game with painfully apparent flaws, which undeniably falls short of the mark. The game somehow teeters continuously on the edge of breath-takingly good and gut wrenchingly bad which feels like a feat in and of itself.    … Expand

И тут надо или смириться с произошедшем, или с пеной у рта орать какая игра это гавно (что ошибочно). Большинству людей, очень трудно будет это принять, но такие вещи случаются в зомби-апокалипсис. Концовка, я бы не сказал, что меня она разочаровала, но сценаристы поступили не совсем правильно. Всю игру беспощадно расправлялись с персонажами, а под конец, решили все перевернуть. (Я так странно выражаюсь, чтобы не заспойлерить). Как ни странно, у Naughty Dog получилось даже заставить меня сопереживать Эбби, главному противнику Элли, хотя и огромная количество геймплея за неё, выглядит как филлер. Я хочу видеть противостояние Элли и Эбби, а меня на самом интересном месте прерывают и говорят - иди туда, надо помочь этим персонажам, которые лишь косвенно влияют на историю. И я несколько часов занимаюсь всем, но не тем, что хотел бы видеть. Очень спорное решение студии, которое многих может оттолкнуть. Феминизма и СЖВ повестки в игре минимальное количество. Элли и Дина да, ЛГБТ пара, но в этом ничего такого серьезного нет. Был момент, что девушки даже не смогли открыть банку с травой (пропаганда слабых женщин?).Есть один персонаж вроде бы девочка, но для всех он мальчик (но надо отдать должное студии - это выглядит даже лаконично, никак не влияет на атмосферу игры и не выглядит через чур глупым). Есть сцена гетеросексуального секса - и она очень откровенная, но... боже, из-за физического сложения персонажа, она выглядит не возбуждающи. Главная проблема, как по мне - это то, как выглядит Эбби. За нее мы играем примерно треть игры ( я прошел за 25-26 часов, и 8 часов там играл за Эбби). Честно говоря, мне было не очень было приятно играть за девушку, сложенную как бодибилдер (хотя и в игре нам объясняют как она пришла к такому состоянию). Если она выглядела более привлекательной, хотя бы не такой раскаченной, играть было бы гораздо комфортнее. Многим подорвало пердачелло с того - что как они могут так сливать персонажей!? Ну тут у меня есть ответ, даже Дина об этом упоминает под конец игры - эти персонажи тоже люди, в этом жестоком мире пост-апокалипсиса, они просто мешки с мясом и костями, они умирают точно так же, как и сами убивали. То есть, проходя игру за Элли, я убил от 40 до 100 человек, и некоторые из них появлялись в компании Эбби, у них были диалоги, шутки, семьи, они были живыми, их показали такими же людьми, как команда Джексона Томми, Мария, Джоел, Дина, Элли.     The storyline is utter trash. Being dark and violent doesn't make it a master piece IGN. I get that this could be somewhat subjective but something that isn't is the plot holes, characters act in stupid inconsistent ways or nothing like they did in the first game. Joel is now a complete moron.

    And yes if you have had enough of identity politics in your escapism then stay away from this.

    The gameplay is competent but hasn't moved on at all really from it's 7 year old predecessor. There are much fewer puzzles and they are even worse than the ones in the first.

    The graphics are amazing, though and i liked the environments. Some of the new enemies are cool to fight as well. Overall i wish i didn't avoid the spoilers and saved the money for cyberpunk or ghost of tsushima. My local games store ain't taking any more back now either cos they've had so many exchanged :(    … Expand

    It is the best golf game in history. The game's graphics and hitting feel are really beautiful. The game also has a story mode, similar to ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’. If you like this movie, you will also love this game.

Joel is a persecuted and very suspicious person, but suddenly he trusts a group he just met and even reveals his name to them, dies in an imbecile way at the beginning of the game even though he was one of the most important characters. Ellie witnessed everything and with that seeks revenge and kills literally everyone on her way to get to Abby, Joel's killer. However, in the end, she has a flashback of Joel, the one who was brutally killed by Abby and started it all, and then she just spares Abby and that's it. Is there any finale **** than that? It's literally like if John Wick in the final moments gave up of killing the guy who killed his dog. It's not even close to the greatness that the first game was and it's clearly not worth your money.… Expand

To me, this game isn't for "SJW LGBT people", it's just for people, fans of the first, people who felt like they knew Ellie and Joel in the first game. This game is a demonstration of how far you could go to gain closure for losing a loved one, and with this it shows how Ellie mourns throughout with use of the guitar and her dreams/flashbacks, she really misses Joel and you can feel that, I wouldn't say it is perfect, but the ending is so poignant because she lost her one connection to Joel, her music. I feel like even with Dina, this game is still about Joel and Ellie, and how important he was to her. Abby was a good addition because we get to see her character fill Joels role for a young Lev, which isn't done too obviously. In the end Ellie breaks the cycle and chooses not to kill Abby meaning she isn't like Abby was, or Joel, she's stronger. To me this game really makes you think and I know that for me, it's console defining… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If the leaks had not have been released prior to launch, peoples perception of Part 2 would have been greatly improved. These out of context scenes have spread false rumours about the characters and cast, and led to toxicity amongst the fan base. Joel’s fate in this game should not have surprised many fans of the game. The amount of obvious red herrings within the marketing and Ellie’s quest for vengeance revealed this. The story is nuanced and ultimately about moving on from trauma and accepting the path of forgiveness. It’s a beautiful story, and fleshes out the world. I’m rating it a 10 in order to help counter the ridiculous review bombing. This game is not a 0/10. If you thought Joel was the protagonist of Part 2, you clearly weren’t paying attention. Not only that but the final scene is one of the most heartwarming resolutions, and confidently wraps up the story of these two characters whilst hinting at something new.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
