She lost Joel,Jesse,Dina,Tommy hates her for not going after Abby and she lost the ability to play guitar,which reminded her of Joel. What happens to Abby? She gets her revenge at the cost of her friends. If she was shown to also reflect on how it wasn't worth it I wouldn't want her dead and would be at peace with the ending. Another problem with the game are definetly the order of the flashbacks. If the game was in chronological order it would have been so much better. Joel's death would have had more impact as we get to play through all the flashbacks instead of it just being for shock value. The most enjoyable parts of this game were the flashbacks that remind you of the first game. I don't know what happend to this game and why it turned out like this when their previous games were so good. The graphics on the other hand look fabulous and the atmosphere is very cool, although compared to the PS3 The last of us not that impressive cause Naughty Dog's games look good in general. As a standalone game this is a 7, as the sequel to a game I loved so much its a 5 at most as it disrespects Joel in the worst way possible,characters behave strange and the writing is just.... wack.… Expand

    Part 3 could be about The rabbit that Ellie killed.
    A revenge play for the rabbit's family to kill Ellie.

    Thank you, you really hit the energy of 2020 and made it a nonsensical s....show. The critic reviews being all positive shows how deep these nerds are in the pockets of the developers. The actual user rating reflects how much of a slap in the gamer communities’ face this game is. From the deeply immersive, emotional and exhilarating the wonderful adventure we got to enjoy in the first part. Now it plays on bland revenge without any emotional depth and a non captivating narrative.

    Silly and childish love triangles with focus on sexuality and confused spoiled halfgrowns. No news on the virus, the cure, improve the characters we got to love from the first part, but u decided to butcher them. I am beyond sad.    … Expand

The first part with Elli to the cinema where Abby came was a 10 out of 10 After that the Part with Abby wasnt relevant to the story. Nevertheless, the game was nice from the graphics and the atmosphere was also generated very well . I would be Happy when a third Part comes in the Future.     This game has a completely messy plot. A lot of uninteresting flat characters that do not bother you. The story is trying too hard to show you: “Look, these characters are good with dogs! Do you still think they are bad? Look how good they are with the kids! And one of them is actually pregnant! ”
    But this does not work at all.
    The ending of the story is so bad and completely meaningless. You kill a lot of people to avenge the death of someone you love, except for the damned killer. The player has no connection with the characters, because they behave so stupidly.

    if this is a TV series or movie, I think it's fine, but for a game, you have to control a character who is give you strong negative feelings one second before then you have to control that character, no matter what happens next, this kind manipulate really disgusting.

The beauty of this story however is in the telling, NaughtyDog takes you on crazy journey, whether you agree with the narrative choices or not it's a wild ride. The story aside, the game is a technical masterpiece, best graphics of this console generation, innovative options and features,No spoiler review. The story for this game is NOT as bad as people are saying, it is a GOOD story.     I will say I understand many of the points people are making regarding the story however not with the critic scores they are giving due to those points. Not agreeing with the story doesnt mean it's a bad story, the story is objectively well written and perfectly executed. It makes you feel intense emotion and a bad story cant do that.

We waited years and years for an extension to a game that was loved for its story and characters. Playing it was like a kick in the balls.     La verdad lo juzgué antes de jugarlo, pero una vez habiéndolo jugado no me cabe duda que es de lo mejor de esta generación, enverdad me encantó y aunque tiene varias fallas en el gameplay y vacíos argumentales aún así es una experiencia envolvente y llena de sentimientos, la verdad le pondría un 9 pero le pongo 10bpars que haga colchón a todos esos reviews mal hechas

    In the first place - the game is great. If you really want to feel intensity of it, do not wantch anything on internet as it spoils all the fun and ruins the moment of surprise. It is similar to Game of Thrones - if you knew how Rob Starks wedding would end, it would not be same as when you watched it without knowing how that wedding ends.

The game is pretty much just trash, I admire the graphics, mechanisms, and realism, but the story itself was just horrible, disgusting, and a salty taste to my mouth. Joel dies in the first 2 hours of the game, amazing right!? Not only that, imagine manipulating the game trailers to make it look like you play as Joel and Ellie to only see Joel die as soon as the game is starting quite literally. I waited for several years for this to be hugely disappointing. You can save yourself around $60 to $100 dollars by not purchasing the game! The game itself is also very slow-paced and does not feel like the first one, eye-catching and appealing to the player, it feels slow and just depressing. I also would like to point out how it is such a scam to review this game a 95 and game of the year, Imagine paying others to get a good review. The problem with this game too is that it isn't what us the real fans expected, Joel and Ellie, just a mediocre game.… Expand

Then you get to play as the man looking woman murderer of your main character for more than few hours and have some dry sex with the self insert of the plotwriter. However, as a game it falls flat: animation that is not scripted seems stuk in the 90's. Backwards crouch walking, walking seems off etc. Voice acting, while professional suffers from whisper syndrome, actors sound tiredFirst, on a technical level this game is an absolute masterpiece.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not going to mince words with this review so let's get a few things out of the way before i get into the game. If your negative review is based in any way on the mere existence of LGBT characters, f*ck off. Your opinion of the game and your worldview are worthless. With that out of the way let me get into the game. Yes Joel dies early into the game, this game doesn't give plot armor to main characters. They are mortals who can easily be ambushed and killed. I should also mention that the theme of this game was stated to be hate, and so what better to drive that point home than a "pointless death" of a lead character early on. Ellie is left reeling from witnessing the death of Joel and does the thing that I think most people could relate to on a primal level, goes for revenge. Here is where I want to address one of the main critiques of the story I personally have seen. Yes the major arch of the game is a revenge plot. That is an archetype and completely fine for a game. It even plays heavily into the common truism that "Seek revenge and you should dig two graves, one for yourself." With that being said, the sheer violence and in your face behavior of the storytelling puts this in a league of its own. The deaths in this game are brutal, the killing nondiscriminate. It is this very violence that further drives home the point being made here. Yes revenge can be deadly, but moreso it doesn't take away the trauma of loss. It is this realization that Ellie has at the end. This is why she doesn't kill Abby. This narrative decision is far bolder than simply having her kill the character, and in my opinion far more impactful. Some will see that statement and argue that all of the killing done to get to that point is made pointless for this reason. What they would fail to understand is the killing was pointless either way. Ellie successfully taking revenge would not vindicate those she lost, nor would it justify the senseless loss of human life that led to that point. Ellie, like Abby and Tommy, let hatred consume them, and that cycle of hatred caused them to lose everything. Even Lev experiences the same consequences of hatred, though it is due to his love for the one who hates him that inevitably causes him to lose everyone dear to him. That is to say that the consequences of human prejudice and hatred are cast upon both perpetrator and victim equally. The cause of the war between the WLF and Scars is left it seems purposely vague to accentuate the fact that the constant deaths on either side are casualties of hatred. I could go on and on with intricacies of how layered the narrative of this game is, but it would likely fall on deaf ears. It seems that the majority of the community doesn't appreciate this form of storytelling, and frankly we are worse off for it. That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and in my opinion this game is an absolute masterpiece. It perfectly contrasts the themes of the first game, which was the stated intention, and delivers a heart wrenching story worthy of your time and money. I would say that the main takeaway of this game is that humanity is its on greatest enemy, and society (at least this post outbreak society) is doomed to destroy itself. There is hope presented at the end of the story, almost an homage to the hope presented in the first game, as the fireflies are said to be gathering numbers again, and who knows, with time perhaps they could rebuild. I know this review has been long winded, but I feel I must add that I do not intended to imply that if you did not enjoy the themes of the game you are lesser in any way. This isn't a "rick and morty fan" type review where I feel as if the people hating on the story are simply too stupid to understand its complexities. I think people understood it quite well, but being that it stands in direct contrast with the first game they don't enjoy it as a sequel. I'm giving this game a 10/10 for the emotional journey it dragged me on over the past few days.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So now that I've finished the game, I'd like to give my impressions. I wouldn't even call the whole thing bad writing. The story was okay. But there were some questionable decisions. For me personally, it would have been smarter to get to know Abby before her group found Tommy and Joel. I'd prefer a character, who struggles with her wish for revenge and duties towards her community. It would've been nice to have the flashbacks like: Ellie: past to presence, Abby: presence to past, instead of playing a character I don't know and didn't understand when she showed empathy for others. I wasn't as emotionally involved as I was in Part I. I saw a single longer encounter of Abby and her father. I still don't know him, don't really care about his death, therefore Abby's personal demise. I would've loved to see how bad live turned out after and why her hatred eats her up. Part I portrayed reasons for Joel to be the way he was, which I'm missing within the character of Abby.
    Joel had the purpose of surviving, but more was stacked upon his shoulders: find a cure, lose Tess, keep Ellie safe, rebuild relationship to Tommy, keep Ellie at distance, give in and let the love grow. Abby's purpose is: make war, find Joel. Not enough to get emotionally involved. She doesn't struggle with anything but comments from Mel and Owen, which she ignores and moves on. Other characters like Tommy, Ellie, Joel and even Bill make up their minds about things - good, decent and enjoyable characters. Maybe I'm just not much of a revenge-at-all-costs-person. I don't understand the drive.
    When Abby tries to save Lev and his sister, she shows some character traits I can work with - a little late. I enjoyed and was involved in the war-situation on the island, but that was because of the screams, the fire, having Lev in the middle of this. I felt for Abby when she told him "You're my people", but she destroyed the moment when she wanted to cut Dina's throat. Joel's character in Part I left the thoughts "C'mon, Joel. Try to get over yourself." and later "FINALLY! Go save your girl!". Abby leaves the thought "The hell are you doing? Why'd you do that?", later "I don't care. Let's just get it over with." I rushed through her episodes to return to Ellie. I needed encounters like the one with Lev or even with Abby and her group before so Joel's death wouldn't make me feel devastated because I had to play a character I'm thinking "what am I doing here?" of, but rather had a decent character, who cares about more than revenge, making seeing her kill Joel harder. Her friends for example. Who I don't feel like they are as Abby doesn't give a **** about them until they're gone for good. I've watched Manny spit on a dead man's face, sending an insult his way and I'm supposed to feel a friendship between Abby and him later? Come on :'D and while everyone else is shaken by the events, Abby found her smile. I'm supposed to feel for her when there's not even a little remorse or self-reflection? That's a main character quality she's missing, if we leave the Scars-situation later on aside. Another involvement aspect: I would have loved for Jackson to get into the middle of the Seraphites' and Wolves' conflict. It would have made Ellie's decision not to kill Abby even stronger. Ellie would've made her decision for the greater good: Abby can only keep her people safe and alive when she's not dead. Yes, this story is about personal processes. Still, I would have loved Ellie to decide for the greater good.
    On the other hand, their fight at the end broke my heart. I was glad Ellie decided not to kill her. The ending was unsettling. It wasn't an open ending like Part I, but isn't closed, either. I would have liked Ellie to finally play and sing the whole song Joel wrote, instead of playing the first few chords and leave. That would have made me feel sad instead of just empty. I love the world, the details, the old characters, would like to say I loved the new ones, like Jesse (again I didn't get enough time), I loved the gameplay (and at the same time hated it, but that's because of my gaming skill :D). I just wished so badly there was a way to feel for Abby in order to make playing her entertaining. I wish the order of events was different and with a little more small encounters to get to know Abby. I even would've preferred to play a character from Abby's group, who watches her get consumed by her hatred. I would've liked to play a character, being on her side regarding the whole Joel-thing, but making no comment on Abby's actions so that I, as a player, get the chance to carry my opinion rather than being pushed into an opinion I disagree with by all means. Despite all the rumors spread before the release of part 2, I still have faith on naughty dog, one of the best game studio ever existed . Joel , a survival expert , a killer machine, who survival countless deadly events, can smell immediate danger in front of someone who pretend to be injured and try to kill joel . And joel just revealed his truely infamous name to bunch of unkown people , surely he just saved that **** but this is post-apocalypse story，he can't be that naive to trust someone just because he save her life. If I were the scriptwriter of part 2， I would rather let Ebby kidnapped Elly as bait to lure joel out，and joel get seriously wounded before getting Elly out of prison. Parents would do anything insane to save their child, that's how joel act inprudently and get himself killed. Most of us don't care that the lead is female, nor that she's gay. The reason is that the story, writing and dialogue is awful. As someone who played and loved the first game, I was left dumbfounded how the everyone from the first game felt so out of character. After their stupid decisions gets Joel killed, the story devolves into this bland revenge plot, with the moral being 'revenge is bad'. And the story is all this game has, as the gameplay is nearly unchanged from the original despite it being released a whole console generation later. If this game wasn't a sequel to this beloved game, I would give it a mediocre 5/10, which makes it sting even more: a continuation of one of the best tales in video games is just mediocre.     De manière générale je trouve que ce jeu n'a pas 1/10ème de l'impact et de la qualité de narration que le premier avait, je sais pas ce que Druckmann a fumé quand il disait avoir fini plein de fois le jeu et pleuré à chaque fois, car perso je n'ai ressentis absolument aucun attachement à l'histoire et aux nouveaux perso et j'ai trouvé certaines scènes tellement clichées que ça me faisait lever les yeux aux ciels

    •Joel dies in the most stupidest way, and is portrayed as a dumbass, same with Tommy.

    •The game forces you to play as an unlikable character that you will NOT want to play as, that killed Joel all because of "being woke".

    •The rest of the time where you're not playing as the BS character, and you play as Ellie, it's either in flashbacks or a BS storyline that turns out to be totally pointless.

    •The old characters either end up dying, injured or alive but stupid AF, same with all the new characters, it's like ND grabbed people that really didn't want to act there part.

    •The ending is **** Ellie goes on a killing rampage where she murders hundreds of people for revenge, only to get to the person responsible for all her pain, what does she do? Let's her go. The whole entire plotline (or lack thereof) revolves around revenge, yet she doesn't get revenge.... huh?

    All in all the only thing I can give them credit for is animations, sound track and visuals.

    Is a very good game with lots of details in gameplay, story-telling and man, the graphics and atmosphere is awesome! Don't pay attention to haters which never even run this game. For them "free-to-play" games is masterpiece and they ruined story-driven games like TLoU

It’s a story of how people can be kind, loving, sweet & funny, and because of the evil in the world, they are pushed to the very limits of what they will do. Its about how we think the same act of violence is acceptable for one person but not for another. Its about how we fight against each other , and make enemies out of people who are different. It’s about how everyone has a monster inside, and what it will take for it to come out. It’s about how life can break people. It’s about how revenge and vengeance kill the person seeking it more than the one they are seeking. It’s about how **** unfair life is. It’s about life itself...and finding a meaning for living. This isn’t a pleasant game to play, but it’s **** incredible. It makes you feel really uncomfortable. It makes you hate what you’re doing and who you’re controlling. It makes you question things you’d never thought about. It makes you hate people you thought you loved, and feel faint pangs of sympathy for those who you thought you hated, but still hate them. The ending is all kinds of frustrating. There’s no closure. But again, it’s real life. It’s a question of life purpose, the purpose of revenge vs forgiveness, and the toll seeking revenge takes on a person and their own life. Losing everything and gaining nothing in the end. It’s **** sad but real. It’s not nice. It’s a story about humans, and the darkness and light in us all. Honestly, If you don’t feel all those things, you’re looking at it in the wrong way. It was never supposed to be a happy ending. If you’re looking for one, don’t expect it with this. PS: it’s full of all the cool stuff from the first part that we all loved: fighting infected (with new additions that are really challenging), fighting enemies with incredibly realistic gameplay, new weapons, prone position for stealth missions, sniffer dogs & fight scenes so intense you hold your breath. The cinematic features & graphics are out of this world, and the ‘agenda’ (aka Ellie being gay & Lev being trans) has no real relevance to the story but is just a part of the characters’ stories and **** brilliant. And despite everything they do, Ellie and Joel remain my two favourite game characters to ever exist.    … Expand

    First of off, you have to take most of the negative user reviews with a grain of salt. Most of those reviews were made shortly after release of the game. No way you can speed blitz through the game within a few hour.

    The Last of Us 2 is a solid game. Story isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I do say the first game story is had to beat.     Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
