The Last Of Us Part 2 had the unfortunate daunting task of living up to its magnificent predecessor that is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time.

Is The Last Of Us Part 2 better than the first game? In my opinion, No. But is that a bad thing? Again in my opinion, most certainly not.

When you play this game, you know it's a Naughty Dog game. It is a technical achievement to behold and everyone involved in making this game should be praised and applauded. Everything, the visuals, sound design, level design, performances, art direction, i can go on all of it is of the highest quality and I've come to expect this from Naughty Dog but they really blew me away with this one.

The thing that brings this whole game down for me though is the story. I think a sequel to the first game was absolutely justified due the circumstances in which the first game leaves off in however this is not the story i expected and it's not the story i wanted. This story lacks what made the first game so special, it lacks the touching intimate relationship between Ellie and Joel. There is a load of new characters introduced in this game and i found myself not caring for anyone other than Ellie, Joel and Tommy. These characters are introduced so early and so fast it was hard for me to care. Particularly Ellie's love interest Dina, she is superbly played Shannon Woodard and she has a great personality but her relationship with Ellie felt very forced and rushed compared to Ellie's relationship with Riley in the Left Behind DLC. Later in the game, some of the characters get that time to shine and you learn about their motivations but it's a fair bit into the game and for me it was too little too late. I commend Naughty Dog for going out there with this story, people are gonna love it and people are gonna hate it but it failed to work for me.

One last thing i have to mention. Me as gamer i gauge my game purchases based on trailers and what is shown, particularly when it comes to story trailers. I want to let people know with The Last Of Us Part 2's story trailers, it is not at all representative of the ENTIRE story you'll be playing. It does represent some parts of the game but not ALL. I understand why Naughty Dog did this however there are scenes in the trailers that do exist in the game but have different characters in the scenes than shown in the trailer. This is misleading and it is wrong, I really hope they know they screwed up on that front regardless on if it was done to keep parts of the game secret. You cannot mislead your playerbase like that or you will lose their trust.

Aside from the story and the trailer representation, this is a well put together game. The performances from the great actors, the stunning visuals and the gameplay really carried me through to the end of the game. It will be interesting to see if there'll be a sequel or not but nevertheless congrats to Naughty Dog for launching and i look forward to seeing what Naughty Dog does next.

It would’ve been nice to have only play as Ellie but to play as the b*tch who kills Joel? F*ck that! Us gamers play games not for insert SJW narrative, we play for a story and how great mechanics and graphics are. Ellie was the daughter that Joel lost in the first game, she filled that void. And I don’t care if Ellie is lesbian, she was supposed to get that torch from Joel to play as the heroine! Not some steroid up b*tch Abby! I lost so much respect for Naughty Dog! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game and i gotta say im really disapointed in the way Naughty Dog executed the narrative for this game, it felt lackluster, uniteresing, boring, and just streight up dissapointing, lets start with the first 2 hours of the game when they kill off Joel in a pathetic way by someone who wanted to avenge her fathers death, ok great, after that scene the game just became a drag for me i didnt see the point in continuing but like all the critics where saying just give a shot wait, continue to play until the end, ok i gave it the shot and still left unimpressed, the first half of the game playing as Ellie was fine the wasnt a problem but it was just redundant and boring narritavely you eventually find out Dina is pregnant and so on and so forth, then comes the 2nd half of the game and in my opinion this should been DLC or something on its own its just wasnt timed right in my opinon, having to play the 2nd half of the game as Abby was just a drag and uninteresting i didnt find my self caring for any of those characters that where introduced except Lev and his sister yara that when it sort of got interesting, but besides that the deaths of these new characters did nothing for me i didnt feel for them because i hardly knew anything about them, what was there to be connected to? and don't even get me started with the final section of the game, overall it was just a drag I understand what naughty dog was trying to go for but it was executed poorly narratively and should be done a different way in my opinion if you're a fan of the first game you will be disappointed with this story narratively. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: pretty much like the first one. The shooting is nice, but the levels are too big in my opinion.

Graphics: Amazing for a current gen game, frame rate was sometimes a bit low

    Story:
That's where the problem is. The story is incredibly stupid and at some points tries way to hard to make you like/dislike a character. It's a standard revenge plot, but after killing dozens and dozens of people, losing her father figure, a good friend and almost her girlfriend, Ellie suddenly decides she doesn't like killing anymore and just lets Abby go.
I can't believe some people seem to fall far the obvious manipulation to like Abby, because we are forced to play her for half the game. She tortured and killed Joel and forced Ellie to watch, while visibly taking pleasure out of the situation.
The game goes to comical lengths to paint her in a good and Ellie in a bad light, it forces you to kill multiple dogs with Ellie, while Abbie has to pet them.
Also the pacing of the game is terrible, it builds up half the game to the climax and then just goes to 0 again lo show Abbies backstory, which I absolutely had no interest in. You are clearly supposed to feel bad for her and her father, but he tried to murder a 14 year old girl while she was unconscious and she is a murderer. All that flashback does is to show that Joel absolutely made the right decision in the end of TLOU 1.

All in all there are 4 fun things in the game:
-Letting Abby die every time you play with her
    -Petting dogs
    -Playing guitar
    -The museum flashback

The rest is mediocre at best. If you really like the gameplay of TLOU1, pick this game up for 10$ or less when it goes on sale, otherwise, don't waste your money and time on this.

I Have Issues With this Game. Before I go off with my review, know that their will be SPOILERS. The Last of Us Part 2 is a game that I will never touch or feel again. I don't have anything to do with this installment for this series. It's nothing to do with the fact naughty dog is reason. It's to do with the Storyline and Characters development for this game. Nothing makes sense within 3 hours of the game. It felt like Joel was never in the game, Prior to the fact that he dies when the game wasn't even pass the first chapter. I don't know why it was done like that but it felt like they let a child wrote the outline for this game. The reason why I'm giving an 2 is because of the main 5 Issues. 1. Story 2. Characters development
    3. Writing
    4. ABBY 5. The Ending that was never Needed. The story was Boring and a headache, Joel and Ellie was done with no respect. The writing is poor (Not the dialogue, but the StoryBoard Lineup). ABBY is the most hatred character that I've ever scene in a fiction story. The ending was weak. Playing Abby was the most stressful thing I have done within the 7 hours of playing this game, I kept saying to myself. When will I be able to play as Ellie again. I started play as Abby at 12 A.M and Ended her at 7 A.M, thats 7 hours their my friends. i don't want to blame Laura Bailey because she's phenomenal at voice acting but the character who she played is a enemy of the Century for me. The Last of Us (2013) will always be my favorite games of all time, but this game needs to be remake or let someone else take control of this series. This 2 is all what I can get. R.I.P Joel Miller , A True Father to Ellie.

the game isn't as good as the first one but is not a bad game
Some people say Joel death isn't make senses he is out of character, like what do you expect on that situation when infecteds chasing them in the storm Joel says ok you are safe and we are going back in a Storm and die, he didn't have a choice
Some other people say the game force you to like abby, no the game dont Force you to like her,the hole point to play with her is that you understand the cycle and redemption
Abby lost all of her friends because of revenge (cycle)
Abby saves Lev and yara because she Regret for what she did(redemption)
Ellie killed all of abby friends and in the process she lost her self her friends and family and memorys of joel and in the last moment of killing abby she understands that killing abby wont make her pain go a way its only makes it worst so she break the cycle of revenge and then you get a idea of Ellie redemption from abby redemption arc

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I literally made an account just so i could review this joke of a sequel. I have never been more passionate about a game or cared as much about a game being bad and this is BAD. Game play is fine i guess same as the first game a little more buggy with the enemy A.I. and fight animations but its whatever. My problem is that this game is literally pointless. Their is absolutely nothing gained for Ellie and all she did was lose. All that was learned is that revenge bad. Let me start off with that i was ok with Joel dying i basically knew it was gonna happen but the way they did it in a way that made the least sense. Joel who is borderline 60 years old whose been surviving for almost 30 years by not trusting anyone. trusts a group of random strangers heavily armed and outnumbering him and Tommy and he just introduces himself and tells them where their camp is. these characters were not this freaking stupid we are talking joel and Tommy here i just god. it is such lazy writing. and the next worse part is you play as the character that killed joel for literally half the game and your just playing her while hating her and you just feel like garbage the whole time. And if you dont hate her then your just a psychopath. Ellie just loses everything in this and all to teach that revenge bad so you don't even get the satisfaction of killing the one that killed Joel. i was so exited for this game and i know they could have done it right. but it just feels like a bunched of mashed up crap together. imagine if they had just done the flashbacks and playing as Abby as to humanize her all leading up to Joels death. that would have worked so much better but it just feels like a lazy agenda push. i have never been left more unsatisfied with a games ending in my life. and so much work leading up to it all while your just feeling dead inside. I'm sad to say that i Strongly advise people just not play this game and just think of only the first game as cannon. 0/10 Literally pointless. A soulless uninspired sequel. Ruined my day. Expand

News are being released talking about the LGBT factor being a part of the low scores for the game, it is not true at all. The Last of Us DLC that showed Ellie as a lesbian was very well received, it told a beautiful story. Her relationship with Dina throughout the game on the other hand is so weird. They had sex once while high and all of sudden they call each other babe? That is just not how humans work. The problem of the game is bad story writing. It sucks that people try to paint this as bigotry.

Joel and Tommy just present themselves. Its absurd how careless they are given how much they lived through in the game.

How the hell did they found Joel? Can you just imagine spending years hunting someone down with NO INFORMATION whatsoever.

It would be just so much easier if they killed Ellie in beggining, there was NO reason to let her live. They saw the town and how many people where in there, why would they risk an open war?

The ending just adds salt to injury. It throws in your face: Everything you've done this game was pointless.

Frankly, I am really disappointed with the story even though the gameplay was extremely fun and the graphics and the world were gorgeous. The story offers nothing interesting or new to the table that hasn't already been made and what the story did was already done better in other games (e.g. RDR2). 25 hours of gameplay for absolutely nothing.

I will install the game again when they release the multiplayer because as I said the gameplay is really fun (it's kind of similar to uncharted 4 but I really don't mind). I hope Naughty Dog's next game is better

The gameplay is fantastic and I enjoyed the combat systems, environment etc. But, I didn't buy this game for the visual experience. I bought it for the story, and boy let me tell you what a let down.
Story starts off leaving off with the events of TLOU and starts to build on a dynamic world that ND has created. Here is where it all goes terribly wrong. Joel gets killed extremely early in the game, and I was heartbroken and turned off from trying to complete the game. But hey, I thought why not give it a chance. The story is filled with shells of characters trying to fill into a terribly written story line in a post apocalyptic world. The things I loved the most about TLOU is the relationship between Joel and Ellie, and how much they have bonded. To be robbed of continuing that story is absolute garbage. Joel's death was a complete retcon of his character that they have built from the original game. Then to top it all off I have to play as someone that ruthlessly murdered him? Oh ND I expected better. The only emotional connections I had were the Ellie flashbacks. Graphics, gameplay, and visuals were amazing. Story was pretty meh.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is pretty fun to play. The gameplay is solid and I enjoy the loop: cutscenes, explore, fight, with a few set pieces thrown in there. Graphically this is one of the most impressive games on on PS4, the same goes for sound. The writing and story were the mainstay of part I. In Part II we have these beautiful round characters that were crafted over the course of part I and, largely, we don't do anything with them. Joel, absolutely the best written and most morally complex character is disposed of early. The rest of the game we spend as Ellie hunting Abby and offing a series of her compatriots. When we switch to Abby we're asked to understand and sympathize with this new character and understand why her killing Joel is justified. Her actions are justified but I could not find any empathy or sympathy to afford this character. All in all the characters are all flat. None of them experience any real change. Dina basically stays the same same the entire game. Jessie is interesting and is then unceremoniously shot I'm the face. By the end Ellie's choice to let Abby live is completely illogical. After killing Joel, Jessie, Tommy, and one slice from killing Dina Ellie just lets her go. Revenge is best served cold, and preferably with some nice round characters and some significant character development. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No, just no. Everything is great except the story, which makes the game, and that's why it's not good despite the rest of the game. How did everyone at Naughty Dog agree to this story? Joel gets killed in a horrific, almost traumatising way that is not right. If he had to die at least make it honourable, so that it was somewhat acceptable, but not like this. They literally destroy Joel. And then they try to make us feel bad for Abby and understand why she did it and make Ellie and Joel the bad guys?! There are simply no good or bad guys in the apocalypse.

We play with Abby for more then half of the game which makes us see how the relationship is between her and her friends, which doesn't even matter to the story. And then we are forced to fight Ellie? In every aspect of the game you see how Abby is a big psycho, and then she almost kills (a pregnant) Dina, which she was gonna enjoy. While you could see that when Ellie killed Abby's friends she started to breath heavily cause you know, she's a human and was shocked what she did. And then when we finally can take revenge and kill Abby, ELLIE STOPS??? Because of a memory of Joel??? It should have done the opposite and make her want to kill Abby even more! And so in the end everything was for nothing and Ellie loses Joel, Dina, and is left alone? How can you ruin this game so much Naughty Dog? Neil Druckmann, why? How could you guys do this to every fan of the last of us?

Worst story for a game ever. So we're supposed to feel sympathy for the Fireflies, whose half baked plan to make a vaccine for a fungus (something we can't do in real life with money and a functioning society backing research) got them all rightfully killed. Bad game. Also they crunched their devs to death forcing them to do what is practically slave labor.

As someone who played the first game three times I think I have a right to give my opinion on this and I must say I found it incredible. I think people are just salty about Joel's death so they decided to megabomb cancel the game. There's aren't any plotholes there are just butthurt fanboys who are pissed that their favourite character died. I think his death was something which was necesary to get the story moving and for every seen we see Joel in (however few there may be) they are emotionally moving and help further drive the plot. This game is incredible hands downs and deserves none of the hate it is currently getting. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game with an open mind. I didn’t go in thinking there was “An AgEnDa” being forced down my throat. I gave Abby a Chance and when I finished the game, I was 100% okay, even satisfied. People honestly giving this game a 0 are just way too hurt and upset that Joel died early, how he died, and you play as his killer (I’ll get to that). It makes sense he died (maybe not early, but honestly the players would be enraged like to hunt Joel’s killer if it were any other character, so I understand why they did it). They are rioting “it’s horrible writing! It goes against his character.”.... the story takes place 4 years after the first event. In those 4 years, Joel’s lived in a protected, gated community were he doesn’t have to worry about trust and survival because he’s always surrounded by people who care about him. For 4 years, he didn’t have to struggle. So “He WoUlDnT jUsT tRuSt StRaNgErs” isn’t forgetting he’s been meeting and trusting people within the community for years. So it’s not so much a slap in the face to Joel’s development, but a lack of judgement as human because he forgot what it’s like to be in the world and not sheltered. The first game establishes this is a horrible, dangerous world, and you probably won’t survive long. Unfortunately, that went for Joel. Yes. I love him, and I was devastated, but people for get one glaring fact.

Joel doomed humanity. Joel killed all the Fireflies to save Ellie. Joel killed Abby’s father (don’t pretend like if someone murdered your father, you wouldn’t want revenge). You see, Joel is the hero to us, in his story and our story. But he is the villain in Abby’s. We’re just so attached to Joel, we don’t realize that. I know, it took me some time to see it that way. But when you play as Abby, if at least try to remove all hatred, the scene that won be over was when Abby was on her knees crying over her dads body. Me personally, I didn’t hate her after that. I understood why. Now, I still wanted her to die because Joel’s my boy, but after that I was able to really appreciate the flashbacks and character building/establishment. Which made me very conflicted because I’m supposed to hate her, but Abby’s not a bad person, she’s just good person who did something horrible, much like Joel, and much like Ellie when she killed Mel. As I’m playing Abby, moments like when I realized I killed the dog as Ellie, or when Manny dies, or Yara, or when you walk in to see your friends dead. It was deep, and conflicting because I allowed myself to give these characters a chance, and I so doing so got somewhat attached knowing full well what was going to happen. That when I returned to the climax... I felt uneasy because both characters are completely justified in why they doing it. The games true entire faults aren’t with the story or the characters Instead, it’s the repetitive gameplay. you’re doing the same, stealth killing, tiptoeing for 25 hours. It’s the 25 hour, single player LINEAR story. It’s not open world where you can spend time exploring, doing side quest and discovering new locations. The fact that you’re repeating the same gameplay for that long makes it very glaring The Last of Us was long too, but it knew where to end. The last one is the game makes you do all that hunting and build up, killing and searching for Abby that as soon as you confront her, it cuts off and you pretty much restart the game as Abby. It’s two last of us style games in one. Two separate narratives. You get to the climax, and then it starts you from the beginning. There were times I was rushing Abby’s story just to get back to see what happens because I wanted to see Ellie’s story finish. Last of Us 2 is Ellie AND Abby’s story, when it should have just been Ellie’s. Abby is a good character that has a story worth telling, but it shouldn’t have been in this game. They should have made a prequel to the Last of Us 2 - let’s call it The Last of Us: The Hunt, where they establish Abby as a character, her back story and motives to kill Joel and the story revolves around making to Jackson, so when we get to the sequel we’ve had time with her as a character to understand why she does what she does. And her story in this game - keep it the same, just DLC or something. Don’t clog up Ellie’s story

I played TLOU1 in 2014 and it easily became my favorite game and was clearly ahead of its time, but it seems the writers at NaughtyDog completely missed what made that game so memorable. I waited 6 years for this sequel, and it was incredibly disappointing to say the least :(

I will start off by saying that the graphics/visuals, opportunities for further exploration, and flashbacks were some of my favorite moments; as well as playing as Ellie in the first half of the game. These are the only reasons this game even deserves as high as a 5. However, the story on the other hand….

*Joel dying in the first couple hours of the game......in TLOU1 Joel was the type of guy to literally trust nobody and take no **** from anyone. Why on Earth would he think to help a random straggler in Abby and think following her somewhere was smart? AND THEN TELL EVERYONE HIS REAL NAME?? Like c’mon, anyone in their right mind would use a code name or something at the very least and not be so naïve, especially Joel.

*Abby's Story/Ellie Ending: This game haphazardly attempts to get you to empathize with Abby and the fact that her dad was the surgeon that Joel killed at the end of the first game when he saved Ellie from the Fireflies. Guess what? I DON'T CARE....I can't understand the game showing her kill Joel in the beginning and then 10 hours later showing us why she did it. At that point, she is my least favorite character and I do not care about her in the slightest. And the fact that we have to play as her for the entire second half of the game is ridiculous and a boring/repetitive revenge journey. They should stick to a single storyline for an entire game and not split 20+hours between Ellie and Abby. I even let Abby die a few times when I played as her because that's how little I cared for her character or story.
Not to mention the fact that Ellie went through this huge revenge plot and kills everyone in the group, except her. Wtf is that? Track Abby down once, let her live. Track Abby down YEARS LATER and still let her live?? Like I understand the ultimate journey is supposed to emphasize that Ellie lost everything along the way, but it's just such a horrible way to end the game. Seemed completely empty imo.

*I believe another reason the story was so obviously misrepresentative of the first game was that there was too much virtue spotlighting. NaughtyDog tried soooo hard to make sure they were politically correct over actually providing the emotional connection necessary to keep my attention and love for the game. How does an entire group, in the middle of an apocalypse, care if someone is gay or transgender? Literally makes no sense to me and they forced Lev out... Abby and Lev are not the duo I want to see in a game; if it's not Ellie or Joel, what's the point?
And let me preface all that by saying that I LOVED Ellie and Dina's relationship. It was one of my favorite moments and I feel like that wasn't explored fully, nor were the actual stories of Dina and Jesse. More time should have been put into their stories.

Overall, I just feel NaughtyDog completely dropped the ball with so much filler and nonsense and lost everything about what made TLOU1 so extraordinary. They should have catered to the fan base that played that unforgettable first game all those years ago, and it certainly feels like they forgot what made that game so successful. This game is not replayable unless you’re a glutton for punishment.

*Ultimately, after playing the game, I think a better storyline would have been something like the disbanded Firefly group getting back together and infiltrating Jackson. Maybe, they kidnap Joel and take him prisoner and then we have to follow Ellie (+ Dina, Jesse, or Tommy) travel and fight to eventually save him and bring him back. I think the fact that Naughty Dog completely destroyed the Joel-Ellie Dynamic and eliminated the emotional connection of TLOU1 made the story of TLOU2 so terrible.

Please Remaster the game and save the series!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay, graphics, and the other technical things in this game were beautiful. I liked the LGBT+ representation as it makes for a more realistic world. However, what made The Last of Us 1 such a great game, was the story, well developed characters, and the consistency of the actions those characters took with their personalities. My two main issues with this game was the manner in which Joel died, as well as how Ellie killed all those people to avenge Joel, but when it came to the one who was actually responsible, she lets her go.
Joel in the first game is characterized as an extremely cautious veteran in his world, he was able to spot an ambush with a single look, and furthermore, even Ellie who was far less experienced at the time had a distinct distrust in strangers, refusing to give them actual names. In Joel’s death scene, Tommy gives his real name which is understandable as he didn’t go through what Joel did and hurt/make enemies of nearly as many people as Joel did. Joel on the other hand, actually gave his real name while being in a room full of absolute strangers surrounding him on either side? Not to mention they were both aware of rival groups like hunters, WLF, and others that would willingly kill anyone not associated with them. Yet he gives his actual name, and then gets killed. Furthermore, the placing of his death is amazingly bad taking into account that we’re supposed to attempt to empathize with Abby as we play as her for a large part of the game. It only made me hate the game more as I played as this character who does atrocious things to the people I grew to love from the first game as well as many innocent people.
Ellie’s initial response to Joel’s death was perfect, she was ready to go after Abby immediately to avenge her murdered father figure. I like most of what happens in the story from that point on, until it comes to killing Abby. Not only does she not kill her for murdering Joel, she doesn’t kill her when she has the opportunity, seconds after ABBY BITES HER FINGERS OFF. It isn’t consistent with who Ellie is as a character, she has a body count of hundreds if not in the thousands, and the one person she refuses to kill is the one who murdered her “father”?
It is useless for me to state my issues with the game without presenting a way to fix it. As shown by your user score, the fans overwhelmingly dislike this game, it spit on the beautiful legacy of the previous game, similarly to how Joel’s dead body was spit on and insulted. As stated previously, I am not adverse to Joel dying, however it should have been done in a more ‘consistent with the character’ manner. For example, instead of him dying in the beginning, we have Joel, Ellie, Dina and whoever else set out on a journey to investigate rumors of a cure/vaccine being found. This happens right after Joel tells Ellie the truth of what happened with the Fireflies and the ending of the last game. She is extremely confused and conflicted, Dina comes in and helps her work through it, building that romance, and together they guilt Joel into going with them to investigate. Simultaneously, we meet Abby, who is searching for the man who murdered her father. We watch her develop relationships with her companions, play as her as she overcomes different obstacles and they grow to love her. The theme of forgiveness becomes an underlying theme as during Ellie’s journey, she starts as being hateful and disrespectful to Joel for lying to her and taking away humanity’s chance at stopping the infection. But through multiple days/weeks of traveling together, being reminded of old times through flashbacks, Dina playing Devil’s advocate as she would have never been able to fall in love with Ellie if Joel hadn’t saved her etc. She would come to forgive Joel. On Abby’s side, her father was a surgeon who tried to find a cure, so she heads to where a ‘cure’ is found(same place as Ellie) for clues on her father’s killer. Eventually, they meet as Joel and Ellie save Abby. They start traveling together and both parties start to become friends as they work their way towards the cure, once they get there Abby realizes Joel is the man who murdered her father, but is conflicted as she knows the reason why, and Ellie as well as the others convince her to forgive Joel. Ellie helps make the cure with her blood or something like that, and boom, it ends with Ellie and Joel playing in their guitars with their new family around them.
If this is too much of a radical change, then a simpler one would be Ellie finishing the job and killing Abby, then Levi. When she kills Levi she mirrors the words Joel said when he killed Marleen. Then the ending is the same except that when she finds she is unable to play the song, she flashes back to Joel and says “I guess I’m the last of us” or something along those lines and walks off.

Great enemy AI, great difficulty setting, great environment design, the story is actually ok. There are a lot of details in the game that makes the whole story logical.
However, I believe the order of the whole story, the arrangement is really bad. They should put all Abby story in front of Ellie's in stead of after that, to help player resonating with this character at first, so that players won't be left with pure wrath since the beginning and can't really put themselves in the 10 hour Abby gameplay.
Besides, the first Ellie part is pretty dull and boring when talking about the story. Dina and Ellie don't talk a lot and their conversation is so dumb, while their love relationship is superficial. And pregnancy -- we should admit it, it sucks. I really understand that they want to use this part to show the weight of lives but they do it too sedulously. DIna has way too much settings that are unnecessary for the theme of this game or for caracter development.
THe interesting part is, I think they did Abby episode pretty well--it reminds me of part1 and I think they do it intentionally. "The girl who killed Joel becomes another Joel at last", they just failed to convey their message correctly to the player but the arrangement of this game leaves players with wrath, nihility and suffering in the most part. They tried too hard to make the game an art this time,

Giving this game a 0/10 is truly idiotic. Giving it 10/10 is pure fanboyism. This game isn't mediocre, but it's not a masterpiece either. Being a narrative focused game, this is about how it makes you feel. I cannot speak for others, but I have felt an intense rollercoaster of emotions playing this game, for better or worse. FYI, I have finished this game on the 20th. Here's my bullet points:

    Pros:
    -Storytelling
    -Better gameplay
    -Stressful ambience
    -Masterful music
    -Ellie

    Cons:
    -Storytelling
    -Pacing
    -Redundant flashbacks
    -Revenge bad
    -Abby

I'm putting storytelling in both the pros and cons because this game will make you feel devastated, depressed, frustrated, anxious and conflicted. I finished this game within 2 days because I couldn't put my controller down. For the first few hours, it's so nice to be back with both Ellie and Joel, then... he gets brutally murdered after literally saving his killer's life. That might be out-of-character for him, but he's been living in a community of hundreds, Jackson, for 4 years now. I was pissed, I was devastated, but Joel needed to die for the story to advance. It's easy to say that what he did was justified, but he is directly responsible for the state of the whole world. Even if the cure was a 50/50 chance of success, the logical thing is to save the rest of the world. Don't get me wrong, if I had to do it all over again, I would save Ellie everytime, but you cannot say that he didn't deserve to die. The music and the ambience in this game is truly anxiety-inducing, I was at the edge of my seat for 90% of my playthrough. I replayed the original on the 18th and the gameplay is improved, albeit very similar. Guns handle better and the bow is now fun to play with. It's not revolutionary by any means, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Pacing is the worst aspect of this game. It makes you feel conflicted about what it's trying to tell you and fails at making you care about Abby. All you get is this melodramatic run through a snowy forest with some dude and a girl that are looking for Joel, before this girl ends up beating him to death with a golf club. With hindsight, it just feels like shock value -- the bane of Game of Thrones -- and sullies the rest of Abby's story-line.

I think the game is easily fixed if you just move segments around... It should start the same, Joel and Tommy's conversation is a great way to recap the original and get you back in the world straight away. Visiting Jackson is okay, I guess, it shows the new status quo for our characters. You should still meet Abby in the cabin, having these unknowns looking for Joel is ominous. After they see Jackson, the game should go to Abby's panicked run through the hospital, finding her dad sprawled dead on the floor. This way it shows you, it makes you feel why she wants to find and kill Joel. That being said, I think the beating was just a little too much, for my taste. For the rest of the story, I think Ellie and Abby's journey through Seattle shouldn't be split in two, but made back and forth, from one to the other. It might be as redundant, but I hated playing only Abby for so long. A lot of people say that the new characters are bland, but just look at Tess and Tommy. We have very little background to them and they still are players' favourites.

Throughout the game, you keep seeing these similarities between Ellie and Abby. They are driven by vengeance, they go out into an insanely dangerous world for someone else (Joel and Tommy for Ellie, Owen and Lev/Yara for Abby). I think that's a great element of the story, how similar they can be at times, in their goals and their methods. Which would be accentuated by the back and forth between the two, as I proposed earlier. To be honest, I think this game would be a solid 8-9, if the pacing were better. As for the ending... I would keep it the same. Exactly the same, except for one detail: Ellie kills Abby. Revenge is bad, right? We all heard that story before, but killing Abby doesn't say that revenge is good. I mean, Ellie says that she cannot sleep or eat and she has vivid hallucinations from a simple bucket tumbling over. She is still consumed by that need for retribution, after months. She abandons Dina and JJ to get said revenge, she travels for probably weeks on end to find Abby. Drowning her would most likely condemn Lev because I don't see any reasons for Ellie to help him after he handicapped Tommy. I mean, killing Abby after she was left to die of starvation, tied to a pillar, is truly horrible, but it still doesn't say: "Revenge is good."... Coming back to the farmhouse empty is punishment enough for being consumed by vengeance. However, it's just utterly insulting after not only sparing Abby, but literally SAVING HER LIFE.

Look... with all that being said, I still think you should play this game for yourself.

    I am Angry
I'm furious, this is not only an insult to the fans of the first installment, but also for the characters. Characters that in their first installment were loved for their good writing, now we are supposed to love them just for being LGBT

The story with Ellie is awesome I was hyped as to go all John Wick on Joel’s killers and the gameplay/visuals are great as well but the switch half way through to Abby just takes you out of the game so much. You don’t want her to win and it’s so so hard to feel any sympathy for her at all as she just killed Joel (pretty much Ellie's dad) because Joel murder her father. And the ending wow... I mean cmon you could of at least gave Ellie her revenge she’s lost so much and I know there’s meant to be “no good or bad guys” just everyone sucks and but cmon man Joel died for nothing. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
