This was one of the most unsatisfactory, and least fun video games I have played in my entire life.

The two words I can use to describe this game are unsatisfactory, and boring.

The game is full of bugs and feels like a leaked beta copy almost.

The developers should really be disgraced right now, releasing this aweful sequel to one of the greatest games of the genaration.

The game is also the dictionary definition of pandering. Many of the “progressive” elements in the game are only there to cater to Tumblr and Twitter users so the game would get a good reception on those websites. I wouldn’t be surprised if they also weaponized those elements to do what the Battlefield team did and say “anyone who doesn’t like the game are just racists and homophobes.” If you were a fan of the first Last of Us this game can and will let you down. Honestly this “game” would have been a million times better if it was a movie. If you can find a way to pirate this game or legally obtain it without giving Naughty Dog a penny I would highly recommend you do so. The way they treat their employees should not be condoned or supported in today’s gaming industry. It’s honestly a shame they went from games like Crash Bandicoot and TLOU1 to this atrocity. I would wait until this game is marked down to $39.99 to buy it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay, visuals and soundtrack are all fantastic. If this review was based purely on those it would be a 10/10.

However, the story of this game is complete and utter trash. It would have been mediocre if it was simply about getting revenge and actually finishing it. It's so incredibly dumb that they force you to play as Abby for about half the game. When I had finally finished playing through Seattle as Ellie, I was relieved because it felt like a chore the entire time. I was expecting it to end in the theater, and for there to be some half assed ending.
When I instead realized that I had to play through Seattle from Abby's perspective, I nearly quit playing. I took a break for a few hours and decided that I was just going to play it through since I had already bought and downloaded the game, and there was no way for me to refund it.

Oh my god. Was that supposed to be entertainment? If playing through Seattle as Ellie felt like a chore, this was like being in a concentration camp. Did they really think we would begin to like Abby? The new character who murdered the best part about The Last of Us part one? They really gave us 10 minutes of backstory and expected us to somehow start sympathizing with her? Holy **** I can't even begin to fathom how this **** played itself out in the writer's room. What Neil Druckmann did here is without a doubt a worse murder of a franchise than what D&D did to Game of Thrones.
And Yara and Lev? These characters are just worthless. I felt no connection to them whatsoever.

I've waited for this game for 7 whole years, and I can't even describe how disappointed I am. I feel so god damn bad for the developers who did an outstanding job on this game in every aspect, only to have it be ruined by TERRIBLE writing. Also, the fact that Neil wrote himself into the game only to spit on the body of Joel is a beautiful metaphor of how out of touch Neil is. Everything he touches turns to **** The change in direction he forced on Uncharted 4 made the people who made the last 3 leave. He went so far up his own ass to sniff his own farts that he's currently inside out. It's insane. The absolute gall of that man, to come onto the development of TLOU2, kill everything that was good about it, and then spit on it's corpse. It's beyond belief.

Everything in this game felt like a forced lecture. No, I don't want to play a video game during a global crisis to learn about how bad revenge is, and how it gets us nowhere. I want to avenge Joel and be done with the **** game.

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. Good job Neil, you ruined one of my favorite games of all time with your abhorrent writing. I don't even **** care about the LGBTQ+ characters, whatever. If you think it's a good idea to add more of those to broaden the acceptance of that, that's fine by me. I do, however, think you did that community a disservice with your abhorrent, terrible, utter horse**** writing of these characters.

**** this story. **** everything about it. From start to finish.
I'm hoping I'll wake up tomorrow and that this has all just been a bad dream.

    That's all.

Let's forget about the pandering SJW agenda, you want to have a diverse cast of characters? That's fine, however forcing it over and over and over instead of character development defeats the purpose when no one cares about the characters. What is inherently wrong with this story driven game is poor writing, character inconsistencies, and plot holes. Certain characters just do NOT behave like their previous selves from part 1. They do an awful job of introducing new characters, especially Abby. Could've had the audience get to know her more in order empathize with her instead of just forcing her on the audience with immediate hatred. It went from quite masterful writing in TLOU to downright amateur writing (think what happened to The Walking Dead in whatever season they're up to now but slightly worse than that even).

Gameplay: not much changed besides some new equipment, ability enhancements, prone/crawling. With all this time to develop this game the new enemies and enemy variation is severely lacking, combined with poor enemy A.I. and oftentimes laughably broken friendly A.I. (for better or worse) results in repetitive scenarios and the best part is you can often sprint passed an entire wave of enemies, get to a quicktime event door and somehow are impervious to death and just get pushed into the next checkpoint. Puzzles have been oddly all but wiped out from the previous game and the developers added nothing new to replace the lack of puzzles besides more walking simulator. The camera often gets stuck and obstructed near walls/corners and the animations quickly get repetitive.

Last but not least all these years to develop a game and no multiplayer included? The first game had a fun multiplayer I personally put many hours into and had my fun with. Makes it even more sad since they butchered the story so much their is no saving grace for this game.

This game is pure regression is every facet of the word. AVOID and save your money!

This game is incredible, the characters and the story are of incredible complexity, so complex that this is a story with no sides there are no villains or heroes in The Last of Us 2, sure everybody likes Ellie and Joel but but Joel is not an innocent soul in the Last of Us, he kills and tortures people with no remorse or regret even people that didn’t deserve it, in The Last of Us 2 Ellie murders countless people in order to kill one person, while Abby did kill Joel, for the entirety of her gameplay she is risking her life to save others, I think that The Last of Us 2 is a story about consequences, Abby loses all her friends and the love of her life for killing Joel, Joel loses his life for murdering countless people and Ellie loses all she had forgoing after someone that spared her twice, I’m only 14 years old and understood this game a lot better than a bunch of adults that think that every story has a happy ending. This game though, i cannot articulate a sentence powerful enough to convey my disappointment. I feel like they did not consider the prior fan base attachment at all. Sure there are heartfelt moments in the game such as the museum scene but after what they did to Joel. I wont accept this story as something meant for their fans. I felt no attachment or sympathy for anyone in Abby's portion of the story.

As for the the visuals, sound, music, voice acting, it was great. Just as expected from naughty dog. The game play is similar to the first which i cant complain about but at 29 hours game time, i got extremely bored of the repetitiveness in enemies. It felt like the same layout with different background. Playing on hard, i found the game was too easy and forgiving on resources. I used maybe 2 health packs the entire play through. One on the tutorial and another when i got bored and rushed enemies in the final chapter. There was always snacks and resources to grab everywhere if you explored enough.

Just based on the story, if i could go back in time, id cancel my pre-order and pretend Joel is still living a life watching over Ellie in Jackson with Tommy and Maria. This thing is just a heartache for the fans of the IP.

Back and forth until u just quit the game, if u were to remove cut scenes from the game no one would play the **** that's because no one plays the game for the gameplay, only the story which surprisingly they **** it up, Joel dies in the first two hours of the game and u don't even get to play with him, he dies in the most dumb way u can possibly think of by trusting and saving some random person he's never heard of then he proceeds to walk into their basement with his brother Tommy with other like 7 people who are some random people, yet in the first game Joel and Tommy barely trusted anyone which doesn't make any sense, after Joel dies by abby, the devs of this game literally force u to play as the character that killed Joel for like 10 hours at some point in the game which obviously makes u feel frustrated, u literally build ur relationship with other characters on the game and then they die because Ellie wants "revenge" yet at the end of the game u don't even kill abby u just spare her, oh and what does Ellie get when she spares her? oh nothing really she just loses two of her fingers and loses her girlfriend and her baby and Tommy, the game makes u feel like a idiot for even spending the time to play it there's nothing to benefit off from playing this game, the best way to describe this game is this "at this point the game doesn't feel like a story, it feels like a **** message" Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the game. Character interaction was fluid and realistic. Graphics look amazing. Joel's death was beautifully done. Which I know a lot of people disagree with but hear me out. Narratively Joel had done as much as he could and to kill him off in such a "cruel" and realistic way was a good motivator not only for the characters in the game but also for the player who had spent so much playing as Joel in the first game. And some people argue that the way he died was dumb. Joel wouldn't reveal who he was. He's too smart for that. But that only works as a problem if no time had passed for there to be growth and change for Joel. We see through flash backs that Joel has changed as a character. He is more trusting of people and works with them better. Before he would have likely left Abby to her fate and moved on but he saved her. They obviously deal with other groups so introductions are normal for Joel and this group. His death is realistic and works very well narratively and to say otherwise is just incredibly ignorant of how people and stories operate. Sure, have gripes and opinions on how it could've been better but to say "I'm not playing the game because Joel died". That's dumb and if you're not ready to play a game with depth then why are you playing Last of us at all? Go back to playing Mario or some **** Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite all the disappointment and bad feelings that have come out in response to this game, it's still one of the best experiences I've ever received from Naughty Dog/gaming in general. I watched the leaks before playing (had my best friend watch too) and we were even more excited to play. My first playthrough was literally all over the place, but replaying the game on Survivor+ is definitely worth a shot. Enemy AIs are aggressive, sneaky, and not blind. On having an "open mind" and being a huge fan of the first game, I figured that I would enjoy the story regardless of how it turned out. The gameplay and graphics were enough to be excited about alone. The best review for this game I've heard went along the lines of, "0/10 for making us smoke the Devil's lettuce, 10/10 for letting us punch sh*t as Abby."

Seriously, I ended up loving the story and characters more than I expected, especially the "unlikable" ones/parts. Even from the leaks, I was able to sympathize with Abby's motivations and actions. She kills for survival and revenge just as much as any other badass character in their world. I immediately understood why Joel had to die. Now, I may have also gotten really drunk to the point where I was throwing up/having flashbacks of Joel's death like Ellie (which, funnily enough, directly prevented me from writing this review sooner; better that I wrote this sober ig), but my point is, the impact of Joel's death is seen and felt clearly through this game's general reception. It's quite depressing and upsetting. I don't want to insult his character more than it has already been, but Joel wasn't a good person for all that he did in the first game. He took away Ellie's choice and he would do so again. He was just like Abby for many years after the outbreak too. Abby becomes like Joel (him being initially reluctant to protect Ellie) when she decides to protect Yara and Lev , who deserve much more love. You teach them to like dogs, they help you confront your fear of heights, and Yara gets a second chance to live which allows her to kill Isaac, cleverly concluding the WLF-Seraphite conflict. Lev is practically Ellie from the first game (and, uh, trans pride ;3 maybe the TLoU3 will be a transitioning journey heh).
They get a second chance, but not without suffering some consequence. Joel dies for wiping out the Fireflies, Lev loses his mother and sister, Abby loses everyone and is enslaved for months before being saved by Ellie just to receive more abuse. Ellie loses her left ring and pinky fingers as a consequence for her revenge quest, tragically making her unable to play guitar the same as she once could. This game also has amazing set pieces, some of the best in gaming.

Ultimately, I can't imagine a stronger motivation for a revenge story than Joel. You get the feeling early on that your actions and everyone else's are morally ambiguous. Who can say that someone or something is morally right or wrong when our story revolves around brutally killing other survivors just like us? The Last of Us Part 2 is not it's predecessor and it shouldn't be, though it does expand upon everything that the first game was and I'm glad that this story got to be told and that they didn't end it at Part 1. At the same time, I do feel bad for the people let down by this game, but come on guys, it's at least a 7/10 lol.

It is the kind of game that is a must-play if you own a Ps4. Graphics are amazing and realistic, gameplay mechanics have been updated and upgraded to deliver a truly addictive game experience.

The story is dramatic and heart felted, people were actually not ready for it. And the game does a fine job using that. You will feel a wide variety of emotions during the game, from hate, love, hope, despair, sadness and even frustration. But it's this emotional rollercoaster that makes the storytelling stand out. Maybe you won’t feel so good bu playing a certain character in the game and the things the forces you to do, but don’t lose the point. It is not about you, it is about the world this characters inhabit and their relationships.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a MUST play video game, it is technically perfect, visually stunning, the sound was breathtaking, music just right, and one of the best stories I have ever played.

Yes, this is not the popular opinion, and yes, the game is very polarizing, but yourself a favor and just play the game and build your own opinion as to if you're trying to decide if you want to get the game based on user reviews do it based on those that have substance and actual arguments, most of the ones that say the story is trash or bad written can't actually make any solid argument other than I was forced to play as Abby, or they dishonored the original game story and characters.

So now to not mimic all those reviews I am going to tell you why the story is a masterpiece, obviously, I can't do that without spoilers, so if you don't want spoilers this is the time to turn away.

I'm going to start with the fact (yes it is a fact and not an opinion) that not everything you don't like is trash, you're entitled to enjoy what you do regardless of what the majority of the audience says and there are masterpieces out there of every kind that you're not obligated to like. being that said this game has a plot about revenge, however, the story goes about breaking the violence spiral, you lose everything if you do not, and both main characters are about that.

If you watch Abby's story without knowing the events of TLoU Part 1 or are objective enough to see her side of the story on her shoes, you would realize that at the moment of meeting Joel and actually killing him, Abby was at the same place you as a player and Ellie as a character was at the time Ellie decides that she must kill every last one of them, that makes Abby's character about as rich as Ellie's and is masterfully done.

The death of Joel was a catalyst and such a strong driver for the story, it makes Ellie embark on this quest and finally save Ellie, who's lost everything, Joel, Jackson Group, Dina and even the last 2 things that connected her to her parent figures, her mom's knife at the beach in the fight with Abby and in the same fight the ability to play the guitar which was her last connection to Joel, but she regains her humanity which makes Joel's death worth it and not be for nothing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a technical and gameplay tour-de-force. The graphics are stupendous, the sound design amazing, and the mechanics, while an evolution of previous Naughty Dog games are a big leap forward in variety and fluidity.

The story is...complicated. And probably will leave you less than satisfied at first. But it is much deeper than many initial impressions and reviewers give it credit for. Personally, I don't think the developers were always successful in putting the player in the emotional spot that they wanted them and that caused some dissonance and probably poor reviews from some players. Two days after finishing, I'm still processing things. The game certainly doesn't end in a way that brings satisfaction to the player, but it does end in a way that closes the story and makes the point it is trying to make.

Kudos to Naughty Dog for putting out another intense, immersive, and utterly gorgeous game experience that took risks and pushed the player to look beyond themselves and into themselves to question what they find there.

The story was amazingly writen and the way it was told is incredibly good. Yes, it’s controversial that Joel died, but what did you want Naughty Dog to do? Create a second TLOU part 1? Then you would only get the same as the Fast & Furious movies. The first one was extremely good. Godlike. You can’t top that with a similar story. You need to explore a different story, a different side, a different goal. This game has done that magnificently. 10 out of 10, game of the year for me. Great gameplay and a magnificant story. It gave 10x much emotions than all the games for the previous couple of years. Ignore the gorgeous graphics etc, it's the story that drives here. Forget 5/5 to God of War, it's a child fairytale compared to this. Personally I wouldn't prefer the same roadtrip as the first TLOU, it just wouldn't have triggerred the same fellings again. And I glad we had that Cal level with the final fight, it still feels you defeated Abby and revenged Joel, no need to kill her as it's Ellie who decided not to. Try to play part 1 and you'll notice gameplay evolutionized a lot (crafting in the 1st was better for me though). Playing Abby punching Ellie feels disgusting, but I suppose that's what Druckmann wanted us to feel, it simply tightens our connection to the characters (well, one of them). For me the game overshadowed even TW3 I love so much. Let's be honest, none of the recent titles caused so much of emotions. A true masterpiece, can't stop thinking of it, but hoping for a more sunny part 3 :) Expand

There have been several bombastic reactions to the release of this game, dating back to the reveal and subsequent leaks. There have been claims of false advertising, which, personally, I believe is overblown - as they had to alter specific content to protect those who did not ruin the story for themselves.

Anyway, the story is harrowing, brutal, enlightening and admittedly taxing at times. It holds up a mirror to your ego, emotional impulses and objectivity. ‘At first I thought this was a game about hate, then I realised it is about love and hope’ Neil Druckmann. Throughout the violence, brutality and sacrifice - can you hold on to those you love, the person you are and control your irrationally - fighting to hold on, instead of giving in to your hateful destructive quest for ‘justice’. Hate can lose you more than letting go. There is a price for forgiveness, but is it a bigger one than revenge? That’s for you to decide.
