    I thought it was a great game. Gameplay wise It was an improvement in all fronts from one. Story wise it was a great but I don’t like that it was split so much between two characters.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this game is a masterpiece. And as good as it is, every masterpiece has a some flaws. The flaws with the this game are few and far between but definitely worth calling out. Although I’m extremely satisfied with the narrative, the tone, the pacing etc, it’s the order of events played out in the story that are the problem. It is extremely hard to empathize with Abby for many people if you watch her kill so many people and spend the first half of the game chasing her. You cant be expected to empathize and understand her if you play her side over halfway through the game.

    Then there’s Jessie who was a completely underutilized character. He dies in an insulting way and never reached his full potential. With those few things out of the way, I can’t begin to express how good this game is.

    The visuals are stunning and gorgeous. I feel like I really am in a ravaged and destroyed country. I think the gameplay has many improvements over the first game with the inclusion of the dodging and slightly more pleasing UI and better weapon upgrading. New weapon types and enemy types too.     Don't listen to the reviews from people who refuse to even buy the game because the story leaked. This game for the most part is incredible. The story, sound, graphics, gameplay and overall design are outstanding.

    My only gripe is that in my opinion they did not stick the landing. The clear theme of this game is revenge the the role and effects it has on the people involved. Is revenge justice and therefor good and noble? Or is it injustice, bad - evil? The story is built around exploring this idea and goes so far as to put you in the shoes of the main antagonist to cause you to think even more critically.

    This is one of the most effective ways to tell a story and humanize both sides that I've ever seen. When I first started playing as Abby when you reach about the halfway point of the game, it was hard to even want to keep playing. I didn't want to get to know this character that I already despised. But as the story progresses and you see just how cruel and vile this world is, you start to sympathize and understand the motivation behind a character I so vehemently hated just a few hours ago. By the time I got to the sniper bridge sequence I had almost entirely forgotten that the first part of the game had happened. Ellie & Tommy are the bad guys in that story and when you finally realize that it is very jarring.

    Had it ended once those stories collided in a more meaningful way, this game would be a 10/10 for me. But from the climax- between Ellie and Abby in the theatre - onward the game looses its momentum and purpose. Ultimately you are left feeling like none of it had a point. Ellie risks her own life to rescue Abby (who is literally enslaved by a group that's clearly very evil and wont have her alive much longer anyway which it turns out later she going to be dead in a matter of hours anyway) so that she can kill Abby herself (with her bare hands even though she has guns) to then let Abby escape because, well there is really no reason it leaves the whole thing feeling like nothing was learned and nothing was gained from anyone. If the idea was to have the player just feeling like everything is hopeless and pointless then I guess it worked but I just felt like this game would have so much more to say.    … Expand

The story was amazing and Joel and Ellie's relationship made me care so much about the characters. And then it was ruined by this game and FREAKING ABBY! The choice to kill Joel in the beginning of the game was a very odd one especially when people still cared about their story. And as time goes on they try and show us all these things about Joel and Ellie's relationship at the settlement but it doesn't do much considering he's, you know, dead! However, moving past this, I think the game is highly underrated. Despite its flaws in story, I think the overall game is pretty good. The gameplay is still pretty good, the stealth... exists. I think the overall game is pretty good. There's one part that I want to talk about though: Abby. Abby is supposed to be Ellie if she was... well, "evil". Abby and Ellie are the same in many ways except Abby moves on after killing Joel. Ellie however goes on this mass killing spree but it goes crazy once you have to play as Abby for 12 hours. This is my least favorite thing in the game. I shouldn't have to be forced to feel sympathetic for a villain. I wanted to kill Abby as soon as she swung a club at Joel but NO! We just have to feel bad for Abby because all of her friends are dead in this back and forth between her and Ellie. And don't get me started on Abby's relationship with the tiny children that I can't remember the name of. I'm supposed to feel really bad for these kids who are apart of a freaking cult. Like why! I think this is Naughtydog's way of showing that Ellie and Abby aren't so different. In the end nothing freaking happens. Abby almost dies and Ellie abandons Dina and her child so she can go fight some woman that almost murdered her. Ellie then spares Abby because she realizes that it's "not what Joel would've wanted". Like IT TOOK YOU THAT LONG! If we were going to go through this whole game then why are we only doing this now?

    Okay enough complaining. I've already said what I like gameplay wise, but I've just complained about the story. I do like the story of the game there's just a lot of odd points that annoy me. Anyways, I think having Dina come with Ellie was a good idea. It gave Ellie and the player someone to care about and also built up their relationship. I think it would've been stupid to have Ellie not be with Dina and then at the end have Ellie and Dina be super close.

    Okay, I've been complaining a lot and yes I get that, but in reality, I do love this game. It's not the greatest sequel but I think it showed that The Last of Us was never about Joel. It was about Ellie and her story the whole time. This was a good sequel, not a great sequel, but not a bad one.
    So in conclusion I think The Last of Us Part 2 is a very underrated game that deserves a bit more love, even if all I can focus on is the negative. (That's just because I have a complaining problem after 2 years of complaining on a podcast)    … Expand

    This game needs to be remade again from scratch.
    I'm never touching a game from Neil Drunkmann otherwise.
    I won't spoil the game...but probably everyone knows already the story.
    Just don't buy this game and promote bad writing from people that all they care about is money. Very disappointed... I sold all the last of us colection I had.

    The story feel forced down your throat. The amount of leftist political correctness is outrageous in this game that I can only give 1 score because gameplay and graphic are great and I feel bad for the developers that devoted their time and soul to make it but it couldn't help carry the bad writing of the game.

    fun gameplay, interesting linear level design that can be tackled in many different ways and promotes replayability, and a story about being addicted to revenge. its pretty good.

    It's a pretty damn good game, what can I say. I find a new spot to explore every playthrough. Guns feel great to shoot, especially the bow mechanics. The bow feels so much better than the OG.

    the level design is definitely better than pt. 1, and may be the most compelling linear level design in the entire ps4 generation. guns feel incredible to shoot. bow feels so much better than pt. 1. visuals of course look incredible. gameplay is so so fun, much more fun than most stealth gameplay games.

What a failsafe plan. It is possible for woke people to make a woke game that is bad woke doesn't guarantee a good game. It is possible for a sequel to be worse than original in fact that is often the case. People don't like this game because of the story destroying what they loved in the first game.     - Characters and Plotline are pretty much **** though.
    - Trailers intentionally mislead the audience, by using wrong character models for Joel. Dude dies 2 hours into the game, and is mostly seen through flashbacks.
    - Joel and Ellie break character to get the plot rolling.
    - New protagonist is **** Like the MGS2 twist but you play as a Johnny ****-my-Pants who just killed of Solid Snake and is wholly unlikable.
    - Did I mention how the game attempts to vilify the previous protagonists beyond belief, while shoving their new one down your throat?
    - God the sex scene, what in gods name.

    All in all, extremely disappointing, cannot recommend, especially if you're a fan of the first game.
    It's like they carefully analyzed all the reasons folks liked the first game and said, "Lets do the opposite of that, it sure will be subversive and thought provoking!".    … Expand

    TLOU 2 hade a great potential, but how we see, all was lost with primitive idea to make this game all about vengeance. Actually , if writers made step forward in the research of immunity (immunity from disease often can be not for all time of living of person) we could get a beautiful story about how man who betrayed the world in first game lost everything because of tragic irony in this game. If script writers was thought more in this direction, now we could have something more then just Walking Dead parody, we can have really dramatic story about payback not from anonymous new character, but from biologic issues of Ellie's immunity.
    And most sadness part of this situation, that ND can
    relieve themselves of responsibility for poor ratings, stigmatize all those who are unhappy by the game as homophobes or sexists, and hide behind the LGBT + community (to which I belong).

    The story is beyond awful, new characters are empty, and not much improvement on game play (which can be expected as uncharteds haven't changed much). I don't mind you want to have politically correct content in the game, but I don't want it overflows everywhere. Good job to ruin your one of the best franchises.

    To start with the positives from this game: the graphics are beautiful and the soundtracks are spot on. That's it, short and sweet. Now on to the negatives.

    The gameplay has not been expanded upon at all from the original. In fact, in some instances I would argue that it actually feels clunkier than the original to play. My toaster could probably generate AI that functions more intelligently and realistically than some of the enemies in TLU2. It gets VERY repetitive and this would kill any joy you would get from potentially replaying the game.

    Not that you would want to replay the game, if you were a fan of the original. The story is horrendous. None of the characters in this game have any likeable or redeemable qualities whatsoever. Joel and Ellie's personalities are gone, they are literally husks of their former selves. Joel's treatment in particular is awful. His intelligent, cautious survivor's mentality is completely gone and he now openly trusts everyone and doesn't question anything during his painfully short stint in the game. After Joel's treatment, playing as the utterly unlikable Abby for a massive chunk of the game leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth.

    Not only do the characters suck, the plot is appallingly bad and full of holes. It feels like very little attention has been paid to detail or to continuity from the original game. It feels like no love has been put into the story whatsoever and that the developers thought that this could be patched over with ridiculously brutal, over the top violence and "woke" social stances.

    And I think this is what frustrates me the most about this game. it feels as though this game hasn't been developed for entertainment, but to force an agenda into your face under the guise of a video game. Sony have openly criticised (wrongly) games for being overly sexualised and have taken steps to actively censor them, but having a trans-lady being pegged in graphic detail for 2 minutes in 4k HD is apparently fine and to point out this blatant hypocrisy makes one a transphobe.

    With all of the leaks and the controversy surrounding this game prior to launch, the false use of DMCA to silence any negative or critical opinion that was expressed online and the exorbitant critic reviews, it feels as though the industry has slapped you in the face with a piece of garbage and told you that you have to enjoy it. The people who have been complicit in this farce should be absolutely ashamed of themselves as they clearly have no integrity whatsoever.

    If you didn't play the original or if you weren't a fan of the original, this game is probably a 3-4 as it could scrape those numbers with AAA graphics and average gameplay. If you took any enjoyment at all from the original game, this is a solid 0 and you should save your money and stay well clear of it!    … Expand

    it is indeed visually beautiful, no doubt about the big talent from all the artists and developers, big enviroments that feel alive along with animations that make the interactions with the characters very real and innovative gameplay.... it is a jewel on the technical side.

    It is also annoying that there is a part that forces users to play Abby with the same game quality as the previous one, while LGBT code scratches more and the last scene angers users with the climax of the game.

La jugabilidad es muy parecida al primer juego y los graficos que decir son lo mejor de lo mejor pero por mas de que sea lo mejor de lo mejor lo que formo The Last of Us fue su historia y lamentablemente este juego tiene la peor que pudieron haber hecho, principalmente porque la muerte de Joel tiene muchas incoherencias siendo una persona con bastantes enemigos y revela su nombre asi porque si a unso desconocidos a tal punto que sentis que la muerte fue muy poco digna, despues te quieren hacer empatizar con Abby lo cual es muy errado ya que sabes lo que hizo y te da asco jugar con ella y despues algo lamentable es el final que sentis que fue todo por nada, que ellie perdone a Abby habiendo matado a Joel es terrible, en especial porque mata un monton de gente para llegar ahi y al final no se venga, te deja con un muy mal sabor de boca.

    this is nothing but pandering to Woko Haram. One of the protagonists has larger muscles than any female heavy lifting Olympic Champions. If you are very progressive, you will love this game. If you are not part of that 2-3% of the population, you will be pissed you wasted your money on this crap. La jugabilidad es bastante buena muy parecida a la del primero pero refinada como es lógico al ser una continuación, el gore es exquisito casi perfecto diría yo. Mi problema con el juego viene en el apartado de la historia este punto es el mas importante en un juego de este tipo y es el más descuidado en el caso de TLOU no me importa que mataran a Joel ni siquiera me importa que metieran de una manera tan forzada a Abby pero después de construirme durante aproximadamente 22 horas a un personaje que este personaje mate como a 500 personas para al final arrepentirse porque "se dio cuenta que la venganza no es buena " no solo es estúpido si no que no tiene ningún tipo de sentido y es injustificable, esto sin contar la cantidad infinita de recursos narrativos de clase de escritura 1, como que cada vez que quieren cambiar de escena alguien es golpeado en la cabeza eso pasa como 25 veces en el juego, obligarme a jugar la mitad del juego con Abby y la mitad con Ellie es horrible para el ritmo hubiese sido 1000 veces mejor intercalar a los personajes para no tener la sensación de estar jugando lo mismo 2 veces aunque te cuenten otro punto de vista, y aunque no lo he leído en criticas aún me da la sensación de que la verdadera protagonista del juego es Abby no Ellie pero fueron cobardes y no terminaron de saltar con todo a esa idea.

    Poor writing, terrible character development, enough plot holes to genuinely terrify anyone with trypophobia, extremely shady developer practices and forced dialogue makes this game a massive letdown in my books. Also, there are people giving this game false 10 scores, dismissing anyone who left a negative review as a "troll who has never played the game". Avoid this title.

Unfortunately with Joel’s death, you are given a character who constantly brings things up that are unhelpful, and is written poorly. She doesn’t add to anything in a positive way and just feels like a forced romance addition. It would feel the same regardless of gender, Just another bad character. She didn’t need a partner, or if you had to you should have her and Tommy together so there is the dynamic between Ellie’s style of grieving and Tommy’s. The story made me lose the will to play mid way through, as the main characters and emotional connection was to Joel and Ellie, and no other characters feel like they have a strong connection. Removing that connection removed a huge portion of the reason for playing the game.… Expand

    The story itself is hideous. Joel is the central character in the first game and the concept of bringing Ellie to the forefront this time around is interesting. But to have Joel die in the first couple hours of the game to a "villain" of sorts who isn't even portrayed as a villain per-say is irritating and disgraceful. There is no continued development between Joel and Ellie in the time he is alive, which is another point of notice- the characters, their relationships and developments are all poorly designed. Ellie is not the Ellie you knew, the new characters are bland and unsatisfactory, and their arcs are incredibly generic. This is all a consequence of piss-poor writing and it leads to a terrible thematic lesson that is driven into your face the entire game: "Revenge is bad". What is even worse is not that these sentiments are already known and have been expressed in other mediums long before, it's that this resolution is explicitly just that: that revenge is bad. There is no depth here, no greater meaning, nothing to attain. Moreso, this elementary lesson is not even grasped by Ellie until the very end of the game, just as she is about to kill Abby. Ellie has literally killed hundreds in this pursuit of "justice" yet coincidentally, God has enlightened her with moral righteousness right before she deals the killing blow to Abby. This doesn't make sense at all, yet neither does the countless other decisions made by characters in this game.

    This is not to say there aren't intriguing elements to the story. The issue is it all entirely backpedals from the first game. These so called "bold" decisions aren't bold, they're destructive. If I liked the first game for x, y, and z reasons, why on earth would you disregard those elements this time around? People want to play the sequel because of the first game. The thing that Naughty Dog and other storytellers who have made such a mistake (Rian Johnson for instance) fail to grasp is that the stories you are continuing already have a solid foundation that people like for these x, y, and z reasons. You can make "bold" decisions without destroying the legacy the previous installments laid out. Frankly, it can be said that TLOU2 would be very good game had it been a standalone title. The issue here is it is not, and thus there is something to uphold (being the first game). And it does not do that at all.

    I'll refrain from discussing other aspects of the game because even though the gameplay and mechanics aren't particularly great either, the primary issue of this game in my eyes is the story, and by far. And all this fault is put on Neil Druckmann. The fact that this is Druckmann's first game on his "own" without the support of Straley (and of course Henning, whom was the real factor of Naughty Dog's prior successes), it is clear the guy has no creative talent and storytelling genius. His co-director and the game's designers are evidently poor pieces as well. I foresee only downfall for what is left of this team.    … Expand

    The story is bleak. The gore is ubiquitous. It has unlikable characters. The story is like some sort of snuff film, filled with revenge porn and a gratuitous sex scene. And it's got plot holes, much like a golf course has holes.

    The graphics were pleasing, 8/10.

    This is a story driven game, but the story is irredeemable. Characters act like they are completely different people. Things happen that don't make the game enjoyable. There is so, so much boring filler. After the first few hours, I    I don't understand what the plan with this game was. I never normally post reviews, in fact I made my account just to review this because I feel cheated.

There is so, so much boring filler. After the first few hours, I didn't want to finish the game but decided that it was worth getting to the end just for a bit of catharsis. But the ending was a joke. There is no depth to this story. It is shallow and petty and completely ludicrous.

    The gameplay is average. It feels dated for a 2020 game. AI is barely improved and the linear level design gets old fast. Often I would slog through the stealth sections and firefights just to get to the next cutscene.

    The audio and visuals are incredible. Stellar, the best I've ever seen on a game.

    Story - 1/10
    Gameplay - 6/10
    Graphics - 9/10

    Because the story is the selling point of this game, and because this game catastrophically fails to deliver, I can not justify giving this game any higher than a 2/10.

    They ruined it

    They kill Joel in the first couple hours. The destroy established character development and to rub it in, the game director self inserts himself **** one of the characters. A complete disaster.

    Absolute garbage, reminded me of the last season of game of thrones. The story is god awful. Just really don't play it.

    All the new characters in part 2 dont make me feel attachted to them. It seems that they r just there for an event or plot twist and then they are discarded. This game wanted to be know as the most dramatic as possible and made terrible writing plot.

They decide to end the series favorite character life in such an unhonorable way and in addition they make the most hated character that killed him playable. This is actually going to make me not even buy the game.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
