    It is a really well made game when you look at the graphics and how the story is delivered. But I absolutely hated the story and what the company did to 2 of my favorite gaming characters. At the end of the day I'd rather play an 8bit game with a good story and mechanics. I hated the game don't waste your money and the ending is the worst part

BUT the shocking story line where you make what feels like basically no progress for hours just makes the game uninteresting. Also forcing you to play as a character you hate for 10 hours is unbearable, they try and make you connect with ABBY so you understand why she kills Joel but they do it in a way which makes Joel look like a complete idiot by going into a room with unknown armed people and just outright say his name. this is a completely different character to the first game who as, weary extremely cautious and overall a great survivalist. They clearly don't listen to there audience if Neil Druckmann had even seen the PSX 2016 crowd reaction to Joel appearing then how in the world could he think the script he wrote would be accepted by most of the fans. what could have bee the best sequel to a game in the past decade was ruined by agenda pushing and forcing players to do things they don't want to do. I'll just forget this game and pretend it was never released and it ended in part one and Joel and Ellie just carried on surviving.… Expand

    The game throw away everything especial in the last of us series ( the amazing plot, the char development etc ) and tried to make a non manicheist story that ended in a frustrating gameplay.

    The story is a boring revenge plot filled with unfulfilled characters and a story forces all the nuance that was once found in the original LOU to be squeezed out of the game to fit thier boring revenge plot storyline.

    The pacing of how the story is told is horrible, with long winded parts of the game rehashing obvious character motivations tied in with other characters that felt completely wasted. If you're a big LOU fan and have been waiting for this game, I reccomend you wait till it goes on sale or borrow it if you can to play it, that way if you end up hating it as much as I do you won't feel like you wasted a lot of money.    … Expand

Joel dies in the stupidest way which is super out of character for him I mean he could of survived by using a fake name or not saying anything at all.     A square bashing simulator with a terrible story and disappointing ending. Beautiful graphics but nothing more than I would expect from any triple A game, for reference Anthem had beautiful graphics and world building but that still warranted a low score.

However, the way they killed my boi Joel, who we followed through the first game is pure wrong. It is not like him to drop his guard like that and just describe who he is and where he lives, that’s my first problem. The second is that I did not care at all about Abby, I wanted her dead as soon as she killed my boi, and they they had the audacity of playing as Abby for 10+ hours and guilt shame us into thinking that she’s this angel for looking after a bunch of kids.     While Having amazing graphics and attention to detail the game in general feels like its trying to be red dead redemption 2 but failing miserably ar it, the gameplay feels outdated and clunky at times, the story is unsatisfying and all over the place, the characters act like anything but human.
    TLDR this game offers nothing new besides the graphics and what it takes from other games it does poorly

    The problem is not the LGBTQ+ thing. This is something everybody know since the first game (DLC). There's no problem with that. Personally I like the fact that Ellie is homosexual. The problem is not the gameplay or graphics, which is very very good. The problem is the story. People love the first game not because the graphics or gameplay, but because the story.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do i start.... well how about waiting for 7 years to experience Ellie and Joel on another wild ride. How about being an hour into the game and having all of that hope dashed. That's what naughty dog did. It's like Druckmann was watching the walking dead and taking pointers for shock value. "oh wow look at how people responded to Negan!" Shock value story telling is cheap. Am i really supposed to believe Joel, a guy from the first game who runs over a person looking for "help" because he assumes it's an ambush, is like "oh howdy partners, y'all should spend the night at our settlement and stock up on our resources even though I don't even know you? I initially defended this game when the leaks came out because i had trust in Naughty Dog because of past games. Never would i have imagined a company of this calibre would put out such a garbage piece of storytelling. I understand killing Joel his story was winding down anyway, but to do it an hour into the game just deflated the whole entire experience for me. And not only that you have to play as the person who kills Joel for like 8-9 hours. Who made these decisons??? mother of god man it's mind boggling. They also skip any funeral or memorial service for Joel which in honesty could have softened the blow a bit. But i didn't even want to continue but i kept playing anyway. Got to a point where Ellie is caught basically in a hurricane on a boat, nearly drowns so she can go kill a member of the wolves and when she does she almost dies if i remember correctly and Tommy saves her and then they're back at the theater.........do you see where i'm going the story is all over the place it's messy and unnecessary. This game could have cut a bunch of mindless moments where you're just going around and getting dialogue events in the stadium as Abby for instance. At least give it a trophy for getting those events but no it doesn't matter. The ending of the game was also hot garbage. Ellie is living with Dina after nearly dying at the hands of Abby(who you play) and Abby says to her "if i ever see you again i'll kill you." So cut to ellie and dina living in an old home on some farm and Ellie is still feeling the effects of Joel's death to a point where it scares herself and dina. So ellie decides "No i have to finish it." At this point as a player i was like "finally let's go kill her."
    Side note lev and yara and their mom seemed like a completely pointless story line altogether because when you go to confront his mother she's already dead at the hands of Lev.
    Anyways ellie sets off to California because magically Tommy overheard that Abby was spotted in California. Santa Barbara to be exact, so she goes there rinse repeat, take out "rattlers" and get to Abby. So you finally reach Abby and Lev and her are both tied to their own crucifix basically. So Ellie cuts them down, Abby begs for her life and Ellie is ready to let them go, but she changes her mind and decides to fight Abby to the death. Ellie gets the upper hand and starts drowning Abby and lets her up and lets her go and they sail off into oblivion. Ellie goes back to the farm to discover Dina isn't there. She tries to play guitar but Abby bit off two of ellie's fingers during the fight so now she can't even do that anymore. Ellie leaves the house and the game ends. I've never felt more empty playing a game it was meant to feel a certain way but it backfired miserably. The whole Scar story line seemed wasted as well, we could have discovered they had some crazy beliefs but most of them burned sadly because of incompetent wtiting. Playing this game makes the entire events of the first game seem irrelevant, why not just kill Joel off when he landed on rebar? No, you guys made us like and care for him and took him away for shock value. Graphics and gameplay are good but thats about it    … Expand

La historia es algo desconcertante a veces, y creo que todos estamos de acuerdo con Ellie al principio del juego buscando una venganza. Pero mientras más indagados en la historia, más nos damos cuenta de que la venganza de Ellie no es necesaria y que está poniendo en peligro la vida de su gente.
    Llegando al final del día 3, nos enteramos que Abby sigue a Ellie, mata a Jesse y a partir de ahí nos damos cuenta del porqué de sus acciones porque literalmente nos ponemos en sus zapatos.
    Duratne el enfrentamiento en el teatro y durante la batalla final, el jugador sufre por ambas, porque desarrolla un cariño que no desea que sea destruido, y hubiera reinado concluso con ambas prácticamente ilesas, pero a Ellie no le bastaba y por querer buscar más, terminó perdiendo lo todo.    … Expand

    Whoever played the first The Last of Us knows that the story of the game was completely thrown in the trash in 2, also for the sake of sealing on EXTREMELY irrelevant subjects in a post-apocalyptic world. The game came out of a story of action, survival and suspense to become a game of social agendas, revenge and the like.

    Several fans have waited for the continuation since the first game's release, looking forward to Joel's story, Ellie's development and their father-daughter relationship. So don't try to shove me down my throat because the reason they don't like the game is because the "main" character (Ellie) is a strong woman, "outside the box" and not sexualized. We all knew about Ellie's sexual orientation and it was never a negative issue or a complaint.

    * And here begins the spoilers: *
    The **** already starts for them killing the MOST IMPORTANT character in the franchise, because yes, Ellie is very important, Joel's brother, sister-in-law, fireflies and all the other characters were VERY important, but not as much as Joel, precisely because we (fans) have an immense connection with the character from the beginning, when we are forced to guide a story where Joel sees his own daughter die and becomes a bitter crown. Yes, he "had" to die, but ..

    After you spend incredible moments of emotional attachment with a character, they just throw you an anonymous you've never seen in the game and force you to play with her to kill that same character that you created an incredible and loving bond with, again, DICK IN YOUR CU naughtydog!

    The personality of Joel that we met in the first game was totally ridiculed, he was someone who didn’t say the name to strangers and was suspicious of his own shadow to a man who enters a stranger’s home and still says "it seems like a good idea" .
    The fact that he is not a long-playable character and that his death is not controlled by the player is another ridiculous thing to see.

    Ellie treats Joel's death as "I'm going to kill her in memory of Joel". I honestly didn't feel that she really felt angry, not like Joel who was almost blinded by hatred / sadness when his daughter died and when they take Ellie to the hospital. They could have worked on it MUCH better and more elaborately.

    And after that, the game rolls for revenge. It is revenge for killing Joel, revenge for killing an alleged scientist father who nobody knew about and much less cared about, it’s a gay sex scene, it’s that **** appeal of “I don’t want to talk to that prejudiced person”. Ellie, who was that strong child / pre-teen and who literally SAVED Joel's life in the first game, turns a **** revolutionary (avengers) IN A POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD.

    It is worth making it clear that the game itself is not bad, the story it is. Good graphics, good gameplay, good character development, but for a continuation of such a rewarded and expected game, yes, I expected something better    … Expand

    I found some of the narrative choices very lazy and at times confusing. Most of the new characters weren't developed enough to make them even slightly interesting. They didn't dedicate nearly enough time on the relationship between Ellie and Dina.
    Overall, while I appreciated the amazing sceneries,    Everything in the game is incredibly good and well thought of, except for the story.
    I found some of the narrative choices very lazy and at times confusing. Most of the new characters weren't developed enough to make them even slightly interesting. They didn't dedicate nearly enough time on the relationship between Ellie and Dina.

WHY!!!! killing Joel is like killing john wick's dog, at least to us who played the first game, I'm really disappointed and probably wouldn't play a sequel, you could've just gave us what we wanted and then add a sequel about the Scars (Yara or lev story with prophet of sepharites) that would be cool, but now my only assumption of continuing the story is if SCARS raid Jackson and killed tommy and Dina for real, then Ellie and her son can take revenge, that would be pretty solid though. don't get me wrong, graphics and game-play are a 10/10, story is a 3 (being humble), i hope you think about that in your future games Naughty dog to avoid losing more fan-base and regret. gave it overall a 2.… Expand

    2-. Reacciones y acciones de los personajes que no coinciden con sus personalidades.
    4-. Pocas peleas memorables contra los jefes.
    5-. Mala organización en como se contó la historia.
    6-. Demasiados temas forzados para demostrar temas políticos.
    7-. Publicidad engañosa en trailer, game play. (nos engañaron con la idea de que jugariamos con joel y no fue asi) escena trucadas en los trailer!

    1-. Graficos imprecionantes.
    2-. Ecenarios hermosos y llenos de vida.
    3-. Abby me gusto como personaje, fue interesante
    4-. Cinematicas fluidas.
    5-. Musica y banda sonora excelente.
    6-. Bastante realismo en las muertes y heridas.

    Es un buen juego, te diviertes te asusta a ratos, te impresionas en otras muchas, vale la pena comprarlo ya? la respuesta es que No ! no es suficiente lo que se presenta TLOU2 es un juego que representa una buena historia pero se diluyo y se perdió a medida que iba progresando, por un momento pensé que estaba jugando un DLC o spin off del primero me duele decirlo pero es mejor esperar que rebaje su precio y comprarlo y con la mentalidad que no encontraras muchas cosas a las que aferrarte a la historia. Solo espero que la franquicia pueda levantarse de este golpe ya que no basta con solo tener elementos gráficos o musicales para que sea un excelente juego, un ejemplo claro de como se hace (Red dead redention 2) gráficos + Historia !

The critics that praised this game clearly don’t have an appreciation for the characters we loved in that first game. This game is the “Last Jedi” of the gaming universe. Highly praised by critics, disrespectful of core characters and just a slap in the face to longtime fans. I hope anyone that hasn’t bought this doesn’t do so. The new mechanics, e.g prone for stealth kills I thought it was amazing. However the story is where you lost me.     Overall: 3/10. I weigh the story the most highly as it's (at least to me) the core of the game. Such a waste of 7 years waiting.

    Visuals:Easily only of the most beautiful games I have seen in a long time. The way they put Seattle together made it feel real and intriguing. Many of the vistas were simply breathtaking. From a studio known for constantly pushing the limits on visuals they once again knock it out of the park.

    Gameplay: If you enjoyed the first game then this is basically most of the same. There are a few additions like going prone and breaking windows, but overall it's the same as the first. And to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the first game's gameplay either. But that's not what made the first game special. I will say that in the first game Naughty Dog seemed to realize that their core gameplay loop wasn't exciting enough to take a huge amount of the game, so there were a lot more environmental puzzles (lots of ladder moving, some people liked it others didn't) that helped cut up the shooting and stealthing into smaller chunks at a time. This game feels like there is a lot more time spent shooting and stealthing with very very few environmental puzzles thrown in, which I feel like is a big missed opportunity. Overall a decent gameplay loop but nothing special or innovative about it, but again that's not why I nor others loved the first game.

    Story: Because I guess there was a story. Why does this story suck? For a number of reasons. Firstly, the killing of Joel. It was such a disservice and they spit on his grave. Specifically the way it was done. There is a world where in this game Joel dies and it is heart wrenching and painful but it is part of the story and becomes one of the most poignant events in modern video gaming history. It could have been done right. But how Joel dies is antithetical to who he is. The supremely cautious man who once ran over somebody because he simply thought it might be an ambush waltzes in to an ambush nonchalantly and is killed for it. Who Joel is as a character is not the type of person to be caught in this type of situation. Full stop. When Joel was killed I was so angry I almost put the game down. Not because he died, but because of how Naughty Dog did him. In a word, dirty. Then I have to play as Abby. Here is where the pacing and sequencing of the game break down for me. If this is the story they wanted to tell I needed Abby to be "humanized" before I see her kill Joel. I put that in quotation marks because introducing this character at the start of the game as the murderer of one of my most beloved characters in all of gaming leaves absolutely no room for her to become humanized anymore. At this point the next 10 hours of the game become a slog I have to get through because I no longer care about Abby, and the story they write for her is not nearly moving enough nor her character likable enough to get over the hurdle they themselves placed. But I continue playing. Why? Obviously so I can get back in Ellie's shoes and murder this piece of garbage. And they disappoint again. You don't even get to kill her. This robs me of the only payoff getting me through the game. Again, it's a story-driven game and that's why I'm here. The core gameplay loop isn't enough to give me a fulfilling experience, I'm in it for the freaking story. I don't get any more of one of the best written relationships in gaming history (Joel and Ellie), and I don't even get that much Ellie, or at least it seemed like it after playing as Abby for so long. Ellie herself kills so many people during her quest, but in the end doesn't kill Abby. Why? I don't know. Flashbacks? It's not what Joel would have wanted? I find this reasoning hard to believe as Abby has done just about everything a person could do to be deserving of murder and after leaving a trail of bodies behind her Ellie just walks away. Ugh.

    Tone:At this point I've written too much, so I'll keep it brief. The first game was beautiful because of the vein of hope that ran through it. In a grim, brutal world there were constant rays of hope shining through. Characters you would meet that could smile and cause you to laugh. Most of those moments revolve around Ellie (I mean, who can forget the giraffe?). So even in a very dark world you saw hope for the future. This game has changed Ellie to a much darker version of herself. I can buy this, but now there is no overarching message of hope, nobody to deliver it. There are almost no bright spots, and they are few and far enough between to be utterly forgettable.

    Conclusion: Naughty Dog took just about everything I loved in the first game and all my hopes for the second game and smashed them to pieces within the first two hours of the game. Beautiful graphics can't make up for that. Ugh.    … Expand

Neil Druckman clearly felt his own agenda was more important then the love for the original lore of millions of fans. He might have wondered how he could top what happened with Starwars. And he did. The story was ok for the first 12 hours, but kept getting worse after that. Naughty dog, skip Druckman, and find someone who loves games, the fans and writing a beautifull touching story.     So I’ll put this out there for anyone who comes across this. (I finished it a couple days ago and really got to sit and think it over before writing this)

    The story itself was pretty disappointing particularly during the latter part of this game. There’s new characters/groups that all don’t get enough depth to them which I found unfortunate and wasn’t able to form attachment like I did to Henry and Sam, and any supposed “shock” moments already felt expected. The build-up of the story, for me, was beautiful until it fell flat during the latter half of the game where, at some points, the gameplay feels dry and you have to battle your own boredom to continue playing through the story. Of course, that’s not to say that Naughty Dog didn’t make this story look visually stunning the entire time. I think the art direction here really complimented the narrative scenes.

    In general though, I think people who want, or are curious, to play this game should. The art, sound, and even the gameplay were the best parts of this game. I may not have enjoyed the story, but there’s plenty of encounters I find to have replayability value with the new weapons and new enemies. Story: 4/10

    1.The trailer has fake contents. It has Joel in the game for further cutscenes. But they charged Joel to Jessie ( The Asian man). It is lying and misleading the players.
    2. Joel and Ellie’s relationship totally changed. Joel was very cool and keep his feelings in heart not on the mouth. And Ellie was really like Joel, she used to be the one to follow Joel. Now Joel turns to be a kind daddy following Ellie, which is so not Joel.... 3. Joel is Waaaay smart than this! Save unknown stranger, and follow stranger to her place and telling them his real name after he killed so many ppl? Seriously?! I won’t even do that in the ending world. 4. The story is telling us not to revenge. But how can Abby killed Joel like a dog just after Joel saved his life??? Her father was holding his knife and preparing to fight with Joel, but Joel won! It is a fair fight. Why she got the anger to do revenge that that??? There are more things I disagree and feel super disappointed with the game. Especially knowing the background story about Neil Duchkmann ( Whatever he is) I feel he added too much of his own opinion to the story and totally changed Main Character‘s personality and IQ! He is trying to force ppl who play the game to learn his life lessons and won’t give us a chance to pick our own story. I literally cried after I saw Joel’s death and feeling super sad for few days.     thanos wiped-out 50% of all living creatures, and he murdered all the avengers in a very horrible way except for thor & thor was watching thanos when he killed all of his friends, so thor goes out for revenge kills everyone standing in his way & finally gets the chance to revenge, but changes his mind at the very last second for wtv reason..

    they are trying so hard to justify what abby did and show you that she is not a bad person, so they force you to play as her to see her point of view to all of this.
    imo.. making the vaccine should've been ellie's choice but since she was drugged, it was joel's choice, he is the one who traveled half of the country with her, who kept her alive & they bonded together, he was like a father to her.
    it wasn't marlene's choice, and sure as hell it wasn't "Jerry" choice either so both of them can go die or wtv.
    what he did was kinda justified because he was just protecting his "daughter" & when this doc tried to stop him, joel had no choice but to shoot him.
    so joel is on the right side here not this stupid doc or his daughter.
    other things that i didn't like is..

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part ll, such hype for a game that flopped so badly. I think that Naughty Dog forgot that this is story based game. The graphics and game play are excellent. But come on, the trailers are fake. They lead us to believe that our beloved people would be kept safe and instead were not. If anyone out there want's to buy this. Before you play it prepare to be disappointed so Naughty Dogs cant. We the player have to sit back and watch the man who could kill waves of highly trained military soldiers to some friendly low IQ man who acts like he is not in a room full of random people. *Warning* *Spoilers* *Ahead* We have to watch Joel die. Leading Ellie on this revenge mission against his killer, Abby. Through the story we are switched between Ellie and Abby. But they make us try to feel for Abby and make Ellie the bad guy in all of this. Leading to her killing everyone involved in Joel's murder but the person who killed him. Then the dev teams blame the users not liking the game on homophobia. The only person in this game that is LGBT+ is Ellie and we all love Ellie. But then we have these paid off IGN and Critics giving the game 8+ out of 10. It's just crazy. I waited 7 years, to see Joel get killed by a 9 Iron and then get forced to try to sympathize with his killer. Also having to watch a sex scene with Abby. Was just, awkward. Tbh bad game overall, save your money. Thank the saints who leaked this bogus game for us.… Expand

As a Lesbian behalf of Ellie's part i dont know what to think about this storyline is not very well written cliff hanging game. If ND try to implement "RIVAL" thing its not going to work. And about the Lgbt being involve well okay im good with it but c'mon! Lgbt communiy is not that dark! Thank you ND you include us but on Abby's sex scene is that necessary to put that in the game forsake Agenda im done to that! Alot of questions "What happen now" Cliff hanging game im looking foward for part 3 better be have one cause im so clueless to Ellie's part.… Expand

    Huge letdown. Spits all over the legacy of the original. It’s also dull due to the unlivable characters and drab story. Very pretentious. While it looks pretty and exploring is fun, the experience itself was a miserable one, and not in a good way.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start off by saying the first game is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It made you care about Joel and Ellie so much that if there was a sequel you would think that it would be a rollercoaster of emotions including both Joel and Ellie for the majority. That is where this game falls short. Joel’s death is not only done so dirty for all the fans to watch, but just done to advance the plot with this game. Joel’s decision should haunt him but the route this game goes with in doing so is not the one many fans wanted. This game makes Joel out to be a horrible person and makes Ellie’s final decision of mercy just seem like she is spitting on his grave and that he didn’t matter. Along with killing the main character in the first game this game introduces transgender girl named Abby who is introduced before shortly killing Joel. What this game does is makes Ellie do horrible things to get revenge but then paints Abby as the protagonist forcing the player to agree with her which is difficult considering what she did to Joel along with the game making her overall not even that likable when showing why she killed Joel. The fight where the player is Abby against Ellie is something nobody wants and is very forced. The point is the game should not have to force you to like a character and you should be able to do that on your own. Naughty Dog should have just given fans a game where you play half as Joel and half as Ellie with a good cause to want revenge with Joel dying in the end and Ellie living with Dina. Instead they give a forced plot with forced characters is Abby and Ellie in a few parts. The game goes a route no one wanted and doesn’t do a good job with the route it takes. It hurts fan watching characters whom are loved getting pushed to the side for a new character no one cares about. This sequel shouldn’t exist as the first game ended nicely and makes fans feel played themselves when they wait 6 years for something at least good.… Expand

    Like many of us here it was told in a very disorganized and unsatisfying way, hence the ending not having a resolution. I was expecting to have more Ellie and more Joel adventures throughout the game (the reason we fell in love with the game in the first place) but those expectations get destroyed after the first hour playing sadly.

    My biggest concern though is Abby. Playing as Abby was like playing a DLC from the game.
    Here's why: I was enjoying the story when it was Ellie getting revenge, as any TLOU fan we all thought we'd play Ellie for the whole game fine by me, but then when it later transitions to you now playing as Abby half the game i started caring less and less. There was just no backstory or anything to make you want to play her, all you really know is that she killed Joel so half the game your dreading playing as Abby/The bad guy and just unpatiently waiting for it to switch back to playing as Ellie. I mean we waited a lot of years to play again as Ellie and Joel so to have the story just make us play a different character right away didnt feel right. It just felt like it would have been best to have the whole Abby gameplay as a DLC in my opinion and to have the hours played as Abby be INSTEAD an extension of Ellie finding the ones involved of Joel's death and having Ellie instead developing a relationship with Lev and Yara continuing the adventure there on out for her revenge at Abby in the end. I would have loved that route instead.

    Honestly It just felt like this "Part 2" could have been better if it was placed in a Last of Us Part 3. The story should have been slowly building up for us to know the characters and have it transitioning to the current story as it is right now.

    So did this game feel like 7 years of hard work? Hell ya. Scenery and graphic wise absolutely beautiful. Game play still satisfying and fun as always. The adventure you get playing the game surely is something to reflect on when you beat it.
    7 years worth the wait though? Story wise probably not.

    If your a TLOU fan and dont know to get the game despite all these reviews and all, Id say get the game, try it out for yourself and see how YOU feel about it in the end. You'll still have fun regardless playing.    … Expand

    The gameplay is pretty good but at ties get repetitive. The story is horribly thought out. You play as the antagonist for half the game trying to get you to like her.

    This game is one of its kind, one of the greatest game ever created, truly unique, brutal, and dark. Don't be influenced by the review bombs of user reviews, not all of them owns a copy of the game. That said i hope metacritic get some or be integrated with playstation, having an API to show real owners.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
