    This game is disgusting! Using politics as a selling point is a cheap and a disgusting way to advertise a game. Naughtydog should be ashamed of themselves for attacking their fans. The only good thing about the game is the graphics. This game is absolute trash! Would not recommend to anyone.

    I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made an account specifically for this review. I can't believe the absolute mess of story telling that this game was. We've waited almost 4 years for a follow up to a game that's close to many of our hearts. The story telling is more interested in pushing a political agenda than being anything like the original which was extremely disappointing. I will be referring to the main female antagonist's name as "A" pr else my review many not be published. I will also state that she was never present in any advertising which attributes to some of the hate we as fans feel towards her.

    Joel's death to "A" happens around 2 hours within the game. And for those thinking Joel had a heroes death, he did not. All the knowledge he had in the first game of being able to spot a trap before walking into it went completely out the window as he and Tommy strut right into "A's" base with her crew giving them their real names and the location of their camp. As a result Joel gets a shotgun blast to the knee and beaten to death by "A" with a golf club. One of the other protagonists then spits on Joel's corpse as Ellie screams in anger and Tommy lays unconscious on the floor. Naughty Dog in this scene spits in the face of any of us that were looking forward to this game. To add insult to injury, "A" is about as swoll as Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi which symbolizes the strong independent female antagonist eliminating the "evil straight white man".
    Oh yes, in the end, after slaughtering all of the enemies and having "A" on death's door, you just end up letting her go because killing is wrong. I wish I was making this up, but the game doesn't give you a choice.

    Just I mentioned The Last Jedi earlier, this game is what I would consider to be the video game equivalent of such. They even have a similar beginning to their titles, ironic.

    All in all, save your money. I bought my game day of release, then sold it two days later after being disgusted, heartbroken, and in sheer disbelief.

    We deserved better Naughty Dog. Joel deserved better Naughty Dog. The Last of Us 2 deserved better Naughty Dog.    … Expand

    Very sub-par gameplay (boring and not engaging at all to the player). Story is absolutely horrendous too (I have never been confronted with such terrible writing in a videogame before).

There are multiple ways to understand Abby’s story but this for sure isn’t the right way. Many people are attached to Joel and Ellie than this new character! But the graphics are noice tho.… Expand

Watching my boyfriend play and return the game within a day after waiting for years, I have never seen anyone so disappointed in my life by such an anticipated game. It is even safe-spaced to the highest degree possible in any game I have seen in this day and age. Why can you not shoot a painting because it is religious? Have you seen Saints Row? Imagine if every game in the near future took this approach, you'd be playing a simulation and not an actual game. This should've been a Netflix series, the writer is one of the most imcompetent people I have ever heard about and that's saying something coming from who they are.

    There is no good part in this game. Same old gameplay, i think its really aged now. Really bad story, i mean the first series has really deep story telling and detail, but this game just no near from the first one. Well i was lucky enough to play this game without payed it. I borrowed from my friend.

I just played it for myself and boy I tell you it was disappointing. First off, people like me that hate the game don’t hate it because Joel died, it’s how he died, he died like a side character. It was a failure, I don’t mind seeing Joel die, as long as it’s done properly and that’s not it.     Despite 4 points out of 10, I’m not sure if I still have any positive emotions after this game. It is unfortunate that the titanic work of artists, designers and other people responsible for the technical part and gameplay crashed into a strange vision of Neil Druckmann regarding the plot and lore.

    Game looks amazing, quality is fantastic (no bugs or glitches or something) but that´s are the only things the game has to offer for you if you enjoyed the last of us story.

    Story 3/10 - None lovable characters.
    Game-play - 5/10 Story killed the game-played for me.
    Graphics - 10/10 beautiful scenes.

I stayed away from reading the leaks because I had hope.I could not contemplate how they could destroy a game with such a good story. I was wrong. I was so wrong. It is not the fact that Joel died, I accepted that at first. He should have been killed in a more personal way and the audience should have gotten to be with him the whole time. The game itself is gorgeous, and gameplay has been slightly improved over the first game. All the idiots claiming haters hate their favorite game because of the gay representation don't seem to understand that their favorite game can still **** suck. The whole point of playing a video game is to have fun and experience emotion. When the ONLY emotions I feel are hate and sadness, you **** up. Critics claiming that you feel a rush of emotions every step of the way mean that every hour you play you get filled with more hate and rage. The game has decent storytelling until a character you met literally **** 10 minutes ago bashes in the head of your favorite character with a gold club. I feel Joel needed to die in this game and feel the consequences of what he did in the first game, but to make a useless ass npc who has one line of dialogue in the first game this super important guy who just so happens to have a daughter that joins the apocalypse version of the mafia is really lame and lazy writing. Naughty dog could have done so many different things with Joel's death, but they chose to kill him like a SIDE CHARACTER. He dies in the first goddamn HOUR. Don't even get me started about the pacing. Ellie goes on a basic ass revenge plot story where she kills all of Abby's friends, and I mean ALL of them. You then play as Abby for a whole ass 16 hours or so, a character you just met and only feel hatred towards, and it makes the player want to stop playing immediately. I had a good time sitting and **** around for a good half an hour just throwing Abby off a cliff. If I have more fun doing that than playing the actual game we have some serious problems. We then see all of these characters who we JUST killed get character development when playing as Abby. I don't give a **** either way as they are already dead and giving them character development now is pointless and a waste of time. The game constantly tries to make the player feel like an **** when what happens is forced and can't be controlled. Like, a dog will roll up on you and your forced to kill it, no matter what. The owner then comes back and starts sobbing at the sight of his dead dog and it makes you feel bad. FOR WHAT? I didn't want to kill the dog, but the game forced me to and then made ME feel like the **** It constantly nags at the player about what the story is forcing me to do, and I have no control over any outcome. The only feeling of satisfaction I had when playing is when Ellie put that **** Abby's head in the water, only to LET HER GOOOOO. WHAT. Abby tortured and bashed in the head of Ellie's FATHER FIGURE, and she lets her go. Lazy ass writing and a lame way to set up a third game. Ellie lost everything, INCLUDING HER ABILITY TO PLAY THE GUITAR. The only thing she has left of Joel is that guitar, and she can't play it anymore because Abby was hungry during their fight and bit off her fingers. Joel would have killed Abby in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed, so don't tell me JoEl WoUlDn'T wAnT hEr To dO tHaT, because HE WOULD. I also felt Joel was out of character in this game, as he literally walked into a room with one exit with like 7 armed strangers, then told them his name. Tommy also told ARMED STRANGERS where they LIVE. IN A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. The only redeeming quality story-wise is the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel. Those parts made me feel true emotion. I get that some people enjoy the game, and that's fine, but you don't have to lie and say the story and characters were on par with god himself.

    Okay, so before playing this game, I played trough the first one for the first time and the difference is massive. The gameplay is ok, although a bit dated and the graphics are gorgeous but that's not what the game is about. It's about the story. And that story is just bad, poorly told and uninteresting.

    It would be an understatement to say this is a disappointment. The first game is hands down the best narrative driven video game I have ever played. IMO the first one was so loved because of the writing, characters, decision making was all perfect coupled with great atmosphere and good gameplay. Overall the game looks great, has slightly improved gameplay and great atmosphere but other than that its a let down. Nothing in this game to set it apart from other narrative games so overall rating slightly below average rating because of the disappointment. And it just adds insult to injury when It took me 15 mins to think of a better direction to take it in and one that I believe all the fans would be happy with.… Expand

    Terrible story takes away from all enjoyment of the game. Gameplay is better than first but the story and characters are poor. No multiplayer either. Don't buy and I wouldn't recommend watching on youtube either. Only pick this up when/if multiplayer ever drops.

    Except for the graphics everything got worse. The story feels rushed and is filled with flashbacks which makes the story incoherent. The game also suffers from introducing forgettable characters. Overall a huge disappointment.

First installment was almost perfect in case of visuals, story etc. and the part 2 is also pretending to be as good as it's prequel except one thing: the story. Some narrative decisions were totally wrong for example how can you kill Joel that everybody loved with the golf club and force the audience to play as the character who did it?! For ten hours! I really liked the game, they improved mechanics, visuals and they,ve added some rpg elements like the half open Seattle area in the beginning of the game. It really looks like the next generation game but the story , LGBT propaganda and weird ending brings down the rating to 7/10. Hope you don't make the next game about Abby Naughty Dog. And my god it was so satisfying to be stealthy in this game.… Expand

It’s the kind of game that you paid $2 for and you end up feeling like you overplayed or the dev should pay you to play their crappy game. This game is not a 1 star review, but it’s not a 10 either. I read the gamestop article about how you'd be hunted by dogs and then naughty dog said if you play the game a certain way and stay in stealth you wouldn't have to kil any dogs. This wasn't true. I play it stealthily but had to kill a dog in a quick time event. I know if your reading this you probably won't give a **** about that, so I'll move on to the story. The whole cycle of revenge arc is the most stupid plot I've ever seen in a game. The fact that at the end Ellie gives up on revenge, but still loses two fingers, dina leaves her and I doubt tommy would want to take her in seeing as she still didn't kill abby. Abby, on the other hand basically got away with murder. Sure she was strung up and nearly starved but she got away didn't she? While even though her friends all died, most of them she ended up hating,and she gets to sail away and start a new life. I mean, the message of the game is that revenge is bad, but it just proves the opposite. Abby, who got her revenge at the start gets to start a new life wherever she goes. Ellie has nothing. She let go of revenge which was the right thing to, do(even though I would have killed abby) and it feels like she's being punished. Which brings me to the last scene:just before the last flashback of joel, where you play guitar for the last time, the way the guitar doesn't play properly because you can only play with two fingers feels like and insult. It feels like naughty dog were laughing when they made this scene. Honestly, I didn't get the game on the ps3, I got the remaster, but does that make me any less of a fan? Maybe, but I played bad video games before, and they were all goty compared to this piece of ****… Expand

    Gameplay: 7.5/10 the gameplay doesn’t take many risks and made slight improvements on the original gameplay, which doesn’t wow me, but it didn’t make the the game feel bad to play.

    First half of the story: 8/10 Joel’s death wasn’t done well, but it did feel like it had to happen for the purpose of the story, so I was somewhat okay with it. I enjoyed Ellie’s arc, even though I thought she would have a stronger stomach, for what she’d have to do to Nora. Overall, first half was pretty good besides Joel’s death.

    Second half of the story: 2.5/10: I really wanted to like what they did with Abby, but just couldn’t. It was really hard to become attached to her character. I can appreciate what Naughty Dog was attempting to do, but it fell really flat. The ending: 0/10 the ending was so bad. It made sense for neither of the characters and just left me angry at the writing rather than reflective.

    Overall: 7/10 I am a sucker for great visuals, so that’s the main reason I’m higher on this game than most other people. The story, however, is so bad during the latter half that I can’t give it a score any higher than this.    … Expand

And I am one of those guys who rolls his eyes when I hear that sentence by other people, but here it is so obvious it is kinda crazy. These characters feel like they are a parody or a fantasy version of some guy inner dreams on how women should be, and it shows.
    The story had a very weird structure, for some it might be a good thing and for others it might be good, for me this story structure has been done before better so it really is not that big of a deal. The core story itself on the other hand has too many plot holes, as well as it feels fake, simply because the characters feel too fake to even exist.
    This game forgets how real human beings really act, and also how young people behave in real life and is in my opinion a work of fiction in both reality and humanity. The gameplay is repetitive and it shows after hours. In my opinion this game is 5 out of 10.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not only about vengeance, its mostly about forgiveness, and how forgiveness is not a favor you do to others, its for you. And if you don't find that beautiful to see so deeply in a video game, then you're not going to enjoy this game story, at all.

    SPOILERS:

    In the beginning I was so angry at Abby, I wanted revenge at any cost, and was so upset, sad, heartbroken with Joel's death. That didn't change along the game, but I just sit there and played, paying attention to every detail as possible specifically how gorgeous and detailed the world that Naughty Dog created for this game is. When Jesse died, I got really upset again, seriously I felt so disrespected by this girl Abby that came out of nowhere and the game just cut to the cutscene where you start to get to know who the **** is this girl that killed my beloved Joel. Did it change my mind about her? No. But I got to know why she planned to kill Joel her entire life, since her dad was murdered by him, and he was the doctor who's gonna maybe save humanity getting the cure out of Ellie. Did it change my mind about Joel's decision? Hell no. Considering that, and that the main point of mid game is to show you both sides, when the game goes to Ellie again, after a freaking terrifying fight where I almost lost my heart thinking Ellie or Dina were going to die too, the game sends you to what was supposed to be a "happy ending" for Ellie, Dina and JJ (their baby). But yeah another scene of Joel layed on the floor, the saddest scene of all game cames out to disturb Ellie, and we see that she can't get that out of her mind, of course totally understandable. Then comes a scene that I found myself super happy because Tommy was alive! But when Tommy got mad at Ellie because she doesn't want to risk her family to pursuit that vengeance, I felt really sad. But anyways, she can't be in peace, she goes on another journey to find Abby and revenge Joel's death. In this part I was actually worried about her and how she was going to lose everyone she loves in exchange for nothing. Because that's the point right? Is killing Abby going to bring Joel back to life? No. That's a hollow you can't actually fill. You have to give time to time. In the end, when Ellie almost left without even fighting Abby, Joel's corpse comes again to her, and she decided one more time that she couldn't let Abby go. But when she's almost drowning her to death, another memorie comes. Her last talk with Joel, in the night before the day he left her life forever. What is cool about this scene, is that we clearly see that Ellie got so upset on Joel, that she maybe could not forgive him, but she would like to try. And that's what matters, as long as she forgives him, she will be with only good memories about him. This is SO hard to think about and fully understand, or worse, to do it (included myself of course). But I found that so beautiful to see in a videogame guys. That's how much she loves him, that vengeance was nothing compared with her love for Joel, and it was not going to bring him back, it was just going to bring more disgrace to her life. Of course she actually learned that in the worst way possible. And the fact that she releases Abby in that moment, for me was the time that she began to truly forgive Joel.    … Expand

    The last of us 2 is not a masterpiece but it’s not a bad game the graphics are stunning the gameplay is thrilling but the only thing holding this game back from surpassing the previous title is it’s story...let’s just say the choices some of the characters make just seem unbelievable.

Abby was a terrible character and I felt no sympathy for her. Playing as abby and fighting Ellie? Terrible writing. I figured Joel would die in this sequel but as brutally as he did without any fulfillment or remorse on abby’s part was another example of terrible writing. She mentioned guilt as a reason for saving the kids but never mentioned Joel again. She was even willing to kill Dina who she knew was pregnant until she was stopped by Lev.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you asked me to rate this game in the middle of the story, I would have told you it was a masterpiece. Sure there were parts of the story that I didn’t expect (Joel dying) and things I didn’t like, such as the path the writers had taken Ellie’s character; but the story had evolved from the original game and not simply provided more of the same, which I see as critical for successful sequels.

    The character of Abby provides a light into the different perspectives of the characters in the story (no one is the villain of their own story). Half way through the game I had flipped to team Abby, despite the connection between Joel and Ellie in the original game, I no longer cared as Ellie was no longer the sweet and curious girl she once was and I felt Abby was justified due to the pain she felt from the murder of her father. Ellie on the other hand was now mean, selfish and unworthy of the caring I and many others once had for her character.

    The ending set in Santa Barbara didn’t even appear to identify as being the same game as the one set in Seattle and didn’t add anything to the game. A grand ending in Seattle would have been a much more rewarding ending. In reality, By the end, I am not on anyone’s side; I am no longer team Ellie or team Abby, I now hate these characters and no longer feel that there is a glimmer of hope in the TLOU world. I now truly feel the despair and hate that envelops this post-apocalyptic world. I think that naughty dog set out to leave the player with a feeling of hate at the end, so well done to them for ruining what was once a story of love.    … Expand
