    Game of the year. Don’t be fooled by the haters who are anti women or anti gay. Game is beautiful and while it does have some minor gameplay issues to fix, it is so much fun.

I am actually left with only one character from either game that I still like. The first game was awesome, the way the relationship between Joel and Ellie unfolded was masterfully done. Part 2 everything is forced and none of the characters are likable, for god sakes they ruined both Ellie and Tommy. Additional characters are completely horrible people. No matter how they tried Abbie was unredeemable and her roided out physique was completely off putting. My god that sex scene was frightening. Why on earth would they force you to play half the game as this person?

    In the first game there was lots of violence but it was to protect people you cared about. Part II is nothing more than a snuff film.

    The only reason I gave it a score of 4 vs 0 is the few scenes with Joel and Ellie. I did enjoy when he took her to the museum.

    Naughty Dog should be ashamed of the story they took 7 years to come up with.    … Expand

    I really think it's very very good and well created. Even if sometimes there are parts that are confusing, the game is a master piece and it has very good graphics.
    The story... Well, not the thing that all wanted, but even if it's not what we expected, it's very good, and it's told in a way that really makes you feel the game.
    I think it's a very good option of you really like this kind of games

    1. Joel was killed off first 2 hours of the game, he should die but not in the way he did and certainly not at the very beginning of the game. At the end or near the end would of been better. 2.     3. We play as Abby, no one wants to play as this character especially for as long as we did. Nor does anyone want to beat the crap out of Ellie with Abby
    4. Game was too damn long which didn't work in favor for the gameplay that got incredibly boring and repetitive due to how long the game was.
    5. The new characters were treated better than the old ones. All the old characters were spit upon and the newcomers were treated with way more respect (i.e Lev and Abby).
    6. The ending was awful "revenge is bad" but the person who started the cycle of revenge gets away Scott free and constantly comes out on top against Ellie in the game (losing her friends doesn't count as her suffering, Abby's friends were punished for her actions, not her, unlike Ellie who lost her lover, baby, tommy and her fingers)
    7. They have the audacity to try and force you to feel empathy for Abby and her group. If they introduced her backstory and stuff way earlier and then she killed Joel it would have more impact. But having her kill Joel first thing and then expecting us to feel sorry for her is stupid. It's poor writing.
    8. The character development was non existent. There's no need to explain this because it's blatantly obvious.
    9. The false advertisement and the intentional misleading in the trailers is disgusting. It's deplorable that a company would intentionally swap character models, and ADD character models to trick consumers into believing something that isn't true just so they can sell copies.
    10. A better story would be Dina being murdered and Ellie decides to get revenge on her girlfriend by tracking these people down and Joel comes with her. The rest of the journey is about Ellie dealing with all this anger she has inside from Dina's death, to Joel lying to her and so on and so forth and Joel helping her deal with the anger as well as repairing the relationship they lost after Ellie finds out the truth about what happened during the events of the end of the first game. Then Joel goes out saving Ellie or sacrifices himself. The walking dead telltale series did Lee's death perfectly. That's how you give a good character a good death that fans are sad but not angry about.    … Expand

    The only things I liked about this game are the improvements in the graphics and combat environment. But those things cannot be compare with how the story was ruined!! Joel been killed just in the beginning of the game! The most important character in the franchise and the reason why we loved the game and the father/daughter relationship that dragger many gamers to love the story, and simply Neil destroy all of this because of what?? Getting rid of Joel just to switch the story to a gay propaganda?
    What is wrong with you?? and the none sense ending of Ellie forgiven Abby because of a flashback!
    Imagine John forgives Maich for a flashback of Arthur Morgan!! Its funny how the flashbacks of Joel are the good thing in this poor game. What a shame man, what a shame.    … Expand

Мультиплеера в игре нет, что удивило.... Хотя можно всегда и в 1 части поиграть в неё, вспомнить истоки так сказать. Making us play as Abby and killing Joel in the beginning of the game is insane. The story is so awful that I wasn’t even able to complete the game. I have never seen a game make a story and playable character based on a completely random npc from the previous game. The agenda that this game pushed will ruin games for years to come. I want to see the story of Joel and Ellie not some random lady who has ridiculous muscles for the apocalypse. There are no redeeming qualities from this game.… Expand

Every area feels a more open and gives you more choices and opportunities to tackle the enemy encounters.

Unfortunately, the story is so far off from what the first game was that it seems like "an out of season April fools joke"...

While I can understand the themes and messages through watching videos and reading comments on reddit, it just shows how they failed as a story-teller to effectively deliver. They made the story way too depressing to gain support from fans. While as a story it might not be the worst, but since it is a video game, something that is supposed to be enjoyed, it ignores the purpose.

    If the story was better, this game might have gotten an 8 at the lowest. It is very disappointing and shameful that the potential was wasted. Hopefully Naughty Dog learns from this mistake.    … Expand

    A bad reason to start up a merciless revenge. I mean, did Joel torture his victim before killing them? No he gave them a swift and quick death. You tried to make Abby looks innocent by having a reason to kill Joel. Yes you had a strong and valid reason... But your reason doesn't make any sense to give her any reason to torture somebody to death.

    I felt deeply offended on the discrimination part against Jesse. What kind of double standard do you guys have to make such a bad joke    … Expand

The game mechanics are fantastic, the character development and story arc of revenge make sense. I know a certain thing which has happens early on has upset alot of people but they need to grow up and realise this is not a fantasy fairytale game.

    I wasn't a huge fan of the first one but I'll agree that it was a good game overall. I can't say the same for this sequel though. Aside from graphics everything else takes a turn for the worst, especially the story and characters. I would not recommend playing unless you like trophies and buy it second hand or something.

But, instead of following the crowd I gave this game a shot myself. To start off the game, let’s be honest, it starts off very slow until Joel’s brutal murder. Now I feel as if Joel’s death was inevitable in a sequel as who would get away with killing an entire organization. However, I feel like his death in this game was a bit forced in order to create this very bland revenge plot that exists in this game. He was solely put in the game to act as the main reason Ellie goes on her quest for revenge. I feel let down by this as a fan of the first game, Joel and Ellie’s relationship was a key factor to the reason why the first game was so special. I just wish Joel’s death had more meaning to a story that was developed off of him.

    Now that his death it out of the way. The portion where we play as Ellie, I actually really enjoyed. I wanted to hunt down everyone that was involved to avenge Joel’s death and it felt as if the story was going in the right direction. Fighting the WLF and the Scars were great and the dialogue between Dina and Ellie did bring some light to an extremely dark game. Needless to say when I was playing as Ellie the game felt like a true sequel, the flashbacks with Joel and Tommy were my favorite part about the game as it revealed the truth behind how Ellie found out what happened in Salt Lake (this was the whole reason I wanted the sequel). However, in Naughty Dog fashion, I am surprised and flipped upside down.

    The portion where we switch to Abby I feel is so forced to push a political agenda. They want to give you a backstory full of sorrow to make you feel bad for the character when in reality, you started off her existence bashing the face of the franchises head in with a golf club so I truly will never sympathize with this character ever. So this was a big failure here. I had no care at all about Lev and Yara, it felt like I was playing a different game with Abby and I found myself almost speed running through sections just to get them over with. The basis of my review is the game feels in its true form when playing as Ellie. However, when we drift off to play a fridge **** for 8 hours I truly lost interest in continuing the game. Druckmann said in an interview years ago that the story will always be about Joel and Ellie. So it amazes me how the story would go in this direction. I did not care for any segments with Abby, the writers introduced me to the character with a permanent vile taste in my mouth that will never be removed. Gameplay and graphics were a true masterpiece. They really pushed the bar with this game. I couldn’t believe what my original fat ps4 was producing on to my monitor. Even though it sounded like a jet engine was constantly by my side. It just sucks that a game had to be ruined by poor character development.

    Positives: Gameplay and graphics 10/10

    Ellie’s portion and flashbacks gave me a true last of us sequel I was hoping for as it gave me closure to how Ellie found out the truth about the events from the first game.

    Negatives:

    Wish Joel’s death meant something more then just a fuel for a revenge plot.

    Abby’s or fridge ****es 8-10 hour long snooze fest felt like filler, and I found my self speed running through sections. Not to mention I suicided while playing her a comedically absurd amount of times.


    Story: 5/10 Gameplay and graphics: 10/10 So an overall of 7/10 fits it for me.

    In conclusion the game barely fills the role of a sequel through 2 hours of sequences with Joel. But the lack of the relationship between Ellie and Joel really hold back the true potential this game could of had. Abby is a failure and if it wasn’t for her I would have no problem giving this game a 10/10. It just wasn’t what I envisioned a true sequel to be, and it left me and many fans truly dissapointed.    … Expand

So many holes in the storyline and almost half the game dedicated to a character that no one cares about and running missions for people that were hardly part of the story development in the first place. The result are missions the feel totally unimportant because there’s no attachment to the outcome of the characters. So much indecision even in the final fight scene. Go after Abby again only to save her to decide to fight her again only to decide to save her again. It felt like they were trying to pull so many last ditch efforts to get you to care about this new character development. I was completely engrossed by LOU 1 and the combination of gameplay and storytelling was sensational. This time I didn’t care.… Expand

    I waited 5 years to play this
    And they gave me a horrible intro and **** ending..

    and now I just have to waste my time to forget about this game.

Somehow played for Abby, the plot during the game for her does not continue. What did Drackman want to say? What violence affects violence? So this is not news. In this game Joel’s death did not have any meaning, if they were to kill of a main character their deaths should mean something in the series. No one should just main characters off just to make the story darker. In rdr2 Arthur Morgan lived as an outlaw and we got to experience his life and understood how his character developed as the story continued and when the character was facing death at the end his death meant John marston(main character of rdr) got to live a life with his family as he always wanted and Arthur Morgan might not have lived a hero’s life but he surely died a hero’s death and at the end he did what’s he wanted to do I.e save John. My point his this game is trash, the facial graphics looks worse than ps3, the story is messed up since you start the whole revenge story to avenge Joel and then at the end the killer is let go because all of a sudden Elli decided killing is bad. Mind that she killed 100’s of people cold heartedly. Absolutely horrible game do not buy it save the money for smtg else.     This game is a masterpiece its a well written game and the game play is amazing. I really enjoyed the story and there are twist and turns throughout the game that are great.     I was one of the lucky ones to avoid the leaked spoilers on youtube, and I was disgusted on how there were people out there that wanted to spoil the game for everyone. But even if I was to have seen the spoilers I still would have purchased the game and played it for myself.

    Gameplay was awesome, I loved the combat, and how you can upgrade your weapons and even ammo ect... The graphics are beautiful, I can only imagine what they can do with a sequel on the Playstation 5.

    I wanna say this game is going to be hard to beat for game of the year.    … Expand

The game turns Joel into a villain and Ellie into a really unlikable character. It feels like the only character they tried to make interesting and likable is Abby and I absolutely hated her with all of my being. The game really shoves this character down your throat after she brutally murders Joel. They also dumb the characters down for the sake of the story which doesn’t make much sense. And these are just the problems with the story I haven’t even spoken about the pacing. I could go on for days about how much I truly dislike this game. The only silver lining is the fun gameplay which is largely unchanged from the first game.… Expand

    Before I continue let me put myself in context, politically I lean to the left and I am pro LGBT, women and BAME issues, I certainly don't dislike this game due to its perceived support of these issues. The quality of the first game makes the weaknesses of the second more obvious, to me the writer appears to have zero emotional intelligence which as I say is surprising due to the first game. Let me try to explain what I mean.

    My job used to involve giving very bad news to people (informing a person a members of their family had died) and this is how we would do it. I would knock on the door confirm I was talking to the correct person and give them the news in the most simple way possible. I would answer questions for about 10 minutes and then a second person would appear (Padre, Vicar) and they would take over. Why was it done this way? My relationship with that family member was tainted, he or she would always see me as being attached to a close relatives death, that is why a different person would look after them. To equate this with TLoU2 imagine introducing a new character who then goes on to kill a beloved character almost straight away? It does not matter how much character development you put in she will be tainted, unless she's a very likeable character (she isn't) she will never break through that initial feeling of disliking her. Then the game forces the player to get to know her? Instead of the complex relationship we originally had we got a rather cliched 'revenge' story, the complex character creation was dropped to push a painfully basic narrative.. disappointing.

    I am in favour of people showing trans, females and BAME in a positive light but why would you put them on the side of those who killed a beloved character? Why not have them included in a positive light?

    The plot holes have been looked at in some detailed and there's little point me retelling them, I just wanted to share what made me just stop playing this game. In my opinion if you enjoyed the first one for it's wonderful character creation and complex relationship (with a good balance of positive and negative narratives) then you may well be just as bitterly disappointed as me.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
