This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPOILER ALERT DONT READ UNLESS COMPLETED. The Last of Us Part II follows up an a masterpiece that emotionally wears you down and makes you fall in love with its characters Joel and Ellie. If you have experienced life and know what loss is, than The Last of Us Part II will emotionally wears you down in a completely different way. It was designed clearly to.invoke a whole other feeling and it blew me away. It is a it blurs the lines of good evil that we often believe are set in stone, and results in a feel good fairytale for the ones we didn't want to feel good for, and it is a tragedy for the ones we know and love dearly. In the end, Ellie's biggest fear in life that she mentioned in the first installment, becomes her reality after choosing hate over love. This should serve as a cautionary tale of staying true to yourself and how careful we need to be about picking up the sins of our father figures. And how when we realize the error of our ways, it can be too late. Expand

The story though doesn't make much sense: Characters don't behave like we know them and make choices that every fan of the game would frown upon. The game also made a false advertising over who we play as. Frankly, we play the second half of the game as a character that is hated by the player. The also try to tell us she's a great characters by showing her pet dogs and be an animal lover.
If you only knew what she did at the beginning of the game you'd hate her. Despise her.
And then we're forced to play as her. It's absolutely ridiculous and I am so disappointed from Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my first review for a game I am about to give. Please don't flag me as a bot Metacritic because of this. I played the game on Survivor difficulty and it took me 33 hours 41 minutes to complete. I feel like I have earned the opinion I am about to give.

Story(Spoilers): I started the game off vaguely hearing of the spoilers, knowing what happens to Joel, but not how it happens. That was the extend of my previous knowledge. I noticed friction between Joel and Ellie. I knew something went down between them where Ellie was not happy and Joel was slightly heart broken. The acting in this game was very good when you can convey such emotion in your face without needing to say words. I was broken inside after seeing what happened to Joel. Every person who saw this had the same heartbroken and shocked reaction that I did. We all hated Abby at that moment, but I'll get to talking about her later. Ellie and Dina had a sweet relationship in this game. There were some genuinely nice moments they had together. I didn't like how in the first 10 minutes of playing the game I was reminded 4 times of Ellie being a lesbian through a bigot and other comments made. Having genuine sweet moments of people in love holds more weight than making them feel like the world doesn't agree with their choices. Ellie is out for revenge and the story progresses rather well through the days leading up to finding Abby. I was forced to kill dogs in this game, which I wasn't happy to do, but I do understand in war these things happen. I love my current dog(Apollo) dearly and understand how it can affect people. When we finally catch up with Abby she is as evil as ever. We know why she wants to kill Ellie with all the terrible things Ellie did to Abby's friends. We just don't care. Ellie is who we saved from that hospital because of the love Joel had for her. We understand we doomed the world, but we just don't care. The best line from Abby's point of view was when we had the flashback to the day of the surgery. Abby's father is asked if it was his daughter could he do the same thing. Knowing his daughter would die on the table. Her father never answered the question directly. He just danced around it. When the time came where we had to play as Abby the entire community had the same reaction, disgust. We don't care who is was leading up to that point. The only question I had was how she because so ripped though. To get that built as a guy it takes consuming massive amounts of high protein/low carb foods. For a woman it is even harder to achieve. How angry would you be when there are people starving out in the world and some one decides to eat 4 times what others do just to maintain that build? I mean doesn't she have to go on missions? She would need to reserve possibly 8 hours a day to maintain that. A perfect example is the end of the game when she losing all that muscle from starvation. Anyways, at first I thought it might be a mission or two where I would play as Abby, but when I noticed the days progressing the same way as Ellie's story line I was not happy. I don't care if she throws balls for dogs or befriends some scars. When Abby's long portion finally ended we finally get a nice part where Ellie is second mother to Dina's baby. It's nice has Ellie seems happy at first, but than you realize that she suffers from PTSD. Tommy shows up and gives information on how to find Abby to finish things finally. I can best describe Ellie as a soldier who just never left the war. She is so damaged inside that she doesn't know how to live in peace. This happens to people all the time. Ellie leaves her for one last mission and after finding Abby, rescuing Abby, than forgiving Abby for killing Joel she heads back to an empty house. No Dina and no baby. The final scene shows the last conversation Ellie and Joel had before that terrible chain of events happened.

What started as a review ended up being a therapeutic release of my feeling towards this game. Does this game deserve a 10/10 by the scared game critics who don't want to lose the influence of Naughty Dog? No way. Does it deserve a 0/10? Not that either. If Abby was turned into a character more similar to Owen than I would have been happy. She would have seen the flaws in constantly being at war and just got tired of it. She sides with Ellie in a fight against a new enemy that has Joel die tragically trying to save Abby from this other threat. I didn't go into the game wanting to hate Abby. Naughty Dog did it for me and tried so hard to change my mind, but never succeeded.

The failure was not in the graphics, acting or game play. It was in the story. It had potential, but Naughty Dog dropped the ball and it rolled under the fence. Leaving us all as sad puppies.

I loved Joel, he made the first game awesome, and an hour and a half into the game he gets his face smashed in with a gold club and spit on. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I go too far, I must admit that TLOU2 is a
technical marvel. The visuals are stunning, the soundscape and voice acting is incredible. The gameplay is passable (as to be expected of a story based game) and is very similar to TLOU. However, the big problem with this game is the story. Not a single character in this entire story is likeable (except maybe Lev), which is a big problem if you’re spending 30 hours with them. The deaths are weak and unsatisfying, with the majority of characters (such as Joel, who’s death was executed terribly) being given a mediocre send off done for shock value and easy plot development. The plot itself is incredibly generic, with the barely explored theme of “revenge is bad” being beaten into you with the complexity and subtlety of a baseball bat. Throw in having to play as Abby (who they desperately try to make sympathetic despite brutally beating Joel to death TEN HOURS of gameplay before) for 12 hours, and a good chunk of the game simply isn’t fun. And of course, we can’t forget about the atrocious ending. After sacrificing everything and killing hundreds of innocent people, Ellie ends up letting Abby get away, leaving us thinking, “that’s it?” Overall, the game story is just like the ending, an unsatisfying waste of enormous potential.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite the immensely great gameplay that builds off the first game, along with a stunning visual setting in Seattle, I can't ignore the fundamental flaws of the story itself. It isnt the gay relationship of Ellie and Dina, nor the buff Abby. My main problem is the treatment of the characters such as Joel. Unlike many, my problem isnt the death of this beloved character but rather the timing, execution, and logic of it. Joel, the strong, untrusting protagonist of the first game, falls victim to Abby by giving out his name. They do this only 2 hours into the game to set up their revenge plot. The game tries to be philosophical but fails to do so. Then, the game forces us to play as his murderer for half the game and attempts to make us sympathize with her. Despite many not doing so, the ending doesnt even allow Ellie to exact her revenge, not even by the will of the player. Giving a choice to do so would've not only made it more immersive but made more sense considering Ellie murdered so many of Abby's friends in pursuit of justice for Joel. It's a convoluted story with beautiful gameplay, but, in my opinion, a game like the Last of Us should be more about narrative than gameplay. I just wish this game lived up to the success of the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What I do not understand about this game is the logic behind the actions of the characters. Let's take Abigail as an example. Her father was killed by Joel in the first game. Her reaction was to take revenge on Joel for murdering her father. Due to the post apocalyptic nature of the game there is no society, ergo it can be argued that what Abigail did to Joel is a logical reaction to what Joel did to her (indirectly via killing her father). The game goes on and you see the characters interact with each other in various ways. The voice acting is top notch. The visuals/gameplay are all top tier. I will not be talking about the technical aspect of the game any further since that point has been stated many times by thousands of people. My gripe is with the story and how the characters act. Let's talk about Mel first. Mel is a pregnant woman who chooses to go to the front lines during the part of the game where you control Abigail. Why? You are pregnant?????? You can physically see her huge belly. What kind of backwards thinking is this? Not only are you endangering your life and the life of your unborn child, you are risking the life of Abigail and Emanuel (and the dog too). This is not the type of game that can allow this type of logic. This is not metal gear. During this mission they get into a car crash, fire fight with the cult, and fighting the mushroom zombies. At one point in order to get through an area Abigail boosts up Mel and you see her slamming her belly onto the metal thing she is trying to climb. You can hear it. I do not understand how this works? The other, and last, thing I want to talk about is Ellie's mission to get revenge and kill Abigail. Fueled by rage Ellie goes on a crusade and proceeds to kill many people, including the pregnant Mel and her unborn child, in order to reach Abigail and end it. This is the part that i do not understand. Ellie shows mercy and tells Abigail to leave. The moment this happened all the lives Ellie took were for nothing. Their deaths meant nothing. Their deaths were as insignificant as the deaths of bugs hitting your windshield. What was the character thinking at the time? Hopped up on all that adrenaline from losing two of her fingers (which is scientifically impossible for a human to do but I digress) how can she make the choice to leave Abigail after all that. I understand that games are subjective not objective, that means what i do not necessarily like someone else will. Yet I find that there is a line somewhere that separates subjectivity from objectivity. Things like plot holes and continuity errors should be objective not subjective. I find how Ellie acts to be illogical. It is true, hatred only begets hatred. And while crude the term "Revenge Bad" is inherently true. The problem lies with how the characters decided to act on these statements. Abigail disregarded the reason that Joel killed her father and acted on her hatred. After Ellie is sparred by Abigail, she makes a conscience decision to act on her hatred and try to kill Abigail. If Ellie wanted for the cycle of hatred to end then she should have stayed with Dina at the farm. The moment she went out of her way to find Abigail, killing anyone and anything that stands in her way, she should have had the resolve to see what she was doing through. Imagine john wick killing all those henchmen and goons and after reaching the guy that killed his dog he just spares him. That feels off doesn't it? Imagine Kratos reaching Zeus, after all the killing that he did, and he just leaves. This is what happened in the last of us part 2, Ellie leaves Abigail free. This is not the same girl from the first game. It is disappointing. if you enjoyed the game then I am glad that you had fun. I just wish that I did too. Expand

Level design is a huge part of the gameplay for this series and it is so fine-tuned it's near-perfect here, Naughty Dog crafts such a detailed world giving glimpses of the past survivor's lives just by traversing it. The layouts of each level play out is so much better than the original as the player has so many unique ways to approach each encounter. Next is the story. This story just like the original purposely makes you feel uncomfortable at some points but it dials it to the extreme this time. I saw a review that complained "By the end of the game I was so numb to violence nothing shocked me anymore" Naughtydog does this on purpose as they really want players to be immersed and feel how these characters emotionally feel. This game's narrative is heavily reliant on the realism and characters making personal yet realistic choices and IMO you lose a huge part of the story if you don't put yourself in their shoes by playing the game. Almost every negative review here is within the first day this game came out. My total gameplay time was 25.5 hours. 99% of these negative reviews are not even possible. Most of this hate is coming from people who don't have the full context of the story. There is a reason this game is much longer than the original and an hour worth of cutscenes alone won't tell the full story. I highly recommend playing the game yourself and not looking at the game through spoilers! I found it a great experience and I hope others will enjoy it as much as I did. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to preface this by saying, I made this account specifically for the purpose of writing this review. I am not going to just leave the score I am going to provide genuine criticism. Overall review at the very bottom. Now, let's get into it.

The Last of Us Part 2 as a standalone game wouldn't be bad. It would be okay at best. Kinda generic story, decent combat, and excellent visuals. However, since this is the sequel to The Last of Us, one of my favorite games of all time and one of the best games ever made, we must look at this game in a different light. In my opinion, this game has the foundation to be fantastic, but falls short in it's writing. Visuals are superb, combat is as good as the original, and the characters have a good base layer of depth. However, it goes no deeper than that, and we'll pick it apart, one by one.

Jesse. I'm starting with him first cuz well, there's not much to say. All we really know about him is he used to date Dina and hung out with Ellie a lot. Aside from that, I couldn't say, he's a cool guy just, there's no depth.

Dina. I actually really liked Dina. She was a cool character and I wanted to know more about her, however, we don't get much outside of "She's Ellie's girlfriend" which is fine, but, now we're only caring about her because we care about Ellie. I wanted to know Dina *more*, show us some flashbacks of them building that relationship higher and higher to get to where it's at. Then, I would've been much more emotionally invested in her.

Abby. I liked Abby as the villain, I did. However, I did not like how Naughty Dog tried to make us sympathize with her. Joel and Ellie in our eyes, are the good guys. And with Abby killing Joel, there is just no way I can ever like her like I like them. The entire time playing as her I hated it. Ya we got backstory and I appreciate it, but it could've been told differently instead of making us play as her, and forcing us to beat the s**t out of characters we love.

Joel and Tommy. Now I am grouping these two together because I have the same issue with both of them. You cannot convince me logically, that Tommy and Joel, would have trusted Abby like they did. It just wouldn't happen. Joel and Tommy from the original game didn't trust a damn soul besides themselves and their families. So for Tommy and Joel to put themselves in that situation, makes no sense. Even to go as far as giving out their full names? No way. That's not the Joel and Tommy I know.

Finally, Ellie. Ooooh, this one hurts. Ellie is such a bold departure from her original character. To tell me that Ellie is going to watch Abby kill her two father figures, her girlfriend, and one of her friend, then let her live? Ya no. Sorry, that is just completely unrealistic to me. No human would ever go through that much stress and trauma, just to give up right at the end. Just doesn't happen.

What could have made it better? In my opinion, this: start the game with a little prologue showing Ellie and Joel younger, not first game young but, a little older than that. Show their relationship or lack their of, show us a little bit more of Ellie's emotion after finding out what Joel did to the Fireflies, and introduce us to her relationship with Dina and Jesse to show how they've been growing together. Then, around the mid game mark, thrown in Abby, looking for Joel to seek her revenge. While out on patrol with Dina, Ellie gets captured by Abby and is tortured trying to get info on Jackson and whether or not Joel is there. Then, let us play as Joel a bit on his way to rescue her, and in his attempt, he get shot and killed in front of Ellie, trying to save her.

Then, the game moves on to Ellie's revenge plot. And this time she *actually* gets revenge. During this time either cut out all of Abby's part of the game or atleast shorten it, or show us things in cutscenes. Then to wrap it all up, Ellie kills Abby, and takes revenge for Joel. I get the message of the game is "revenge is bad" but that could've been shown in like an epilogue scene, where Ellie has PTSD or something along those lines, and she is haunted by the horrible things she did, instead of killing off all the major characters we liked.

Overall I give the game a 5 cuz if you're only playing it for the gameplay, you'll have a good time, but the story just isn't there, even if you didn't play the first game, some actions just make you go like, wait, what?

Ellie throughout her journey she has experience nothing but loss and suffering. First you have Joel dying in the first two hours of the game, got her friend killed, and she lost her fingers which makes it so Ellie was unable to play guitar which is the closest thing she has to Joel

Meanwhile, you have Abby being able to get away with everything without any consequences.

In the first game, during the journey Ellie and Joel relationship gets deeper and deeper, but here in this game it's just a **** you Ellie journey.

    2/10 don't make another.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Everything built up in the previous game was destroyed here. Side characters weren't memorable, story made no sense, and the ending was absolutely garbage. The devs tried to go for realism by killing characters randomly, but this makes for horrible story telling where all your favorite characters will end up dying.

When "The Last of Us" said it was more important to save a single girl in front of eyes than the lives of countless people who could save in the future, it was a courageous ending to take a moral dilemma. The sequel, however, does not understand that revenge is circulated among everyone except the production team, and therefore only the production team can purify the world with special aesthetic and moral judgment. With such an attitude, they insult, belies, manipulates, and preaches those who truly loved the main characters of the previous series. The bottom line is doctrinaire. Even that is nothing more than throwing gamers into the mire of moral relativism. The sequel crossed the line at a time when gamers direct Abby and force the players to learn a lesson.  Expand

In this case I’ve come here to give a real review because I believe in this case the fans need to be heard loud and clear and in mass. I absolutely loved the first installment of this series, it was quite literally the best game I have ever played. I’ve spent hundreds of hours replaying the original and the remaster and It’s never made me feel like its a chore. The character development and character relationships were incredible, the story was absolutely spectacular and when I found out there was going to be a Part II I was over the moon. I heard the leaks and the here say about how this wasn’t going to compare to the first and to expect something much different. I kept an open mind and began playing after work on launch day. After just about 2 hours I didn’t even want to go any farther. I just wanted to turn my PS4 off and return the game. I took a day to think if I wanted to see if it got any better, and as you could have guessed it didn’t. In all my years of gaming I haven’t seen something with so much potential just fall so flat. This game is dead on arrival and there are so many plot holes I was in disbelief that the studio released it. I couldn’t care less if the main characters were gay, straight, black, brown or purple. I loved Ellie’s character in the first game, and the people saying people only hate the game because of the gay protagonist is just untrue. Where is the personalities and traits of the characters that were already developed because they were nowhere to be seen? This game has absolutely nothing of value in it, it’s utterly garbage. I’ve waisted 60 dollars on something that I’ll never get back not to mention the time finishing the game for the sake of finishing it just so I would have ground to stand on to write this review. Naughty Dog...... We were expecting so much from you and you’ve let your fans down as much as you possibly could. Between the terrible AI, horrible story, terrible attempts to make characters you’re suppose to end up liking relatable, and the pathetic attempt at shock value to justify the terrible writing is despicable. In my mind this game doesn’t exist and the first installment is just a fantastic one off that will leave me wondering what ever became of the Joel and Ellie we all came to know and love and probably actually connected with. Save yourselves the money and don’t line the studios pockets because I’m 99% sure you will regret it. If you want watch your favorite YouTuber or streamer play it. In numbers out voices can be heard, hit them were it hurts...... in the pocket book. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a brutal, twisted and divisive masterpiece. I've been waiting 6 years to play this new game and I was not disappointed. The gameplay was incredible, graphics were unbelievable, music was beautiful yet daunting; but I want to focus on the story because this is where it trips most people. Part II is incomparable to its predecessor due to an entirely different narrative perspective and theme. Naughty Dog takes story telling to a whole new level in the gaming industry where other franchises are too afraid to touch. The direction they took was very admirable and respectable.

Part I crafts a beautiful father-daughter relationship from complete strangers. I love that Part II isn’t a repetition of that same idea. Instead of growing Joel and Ellie's relationship, they sadistically fueled their fans with anger and turmoil from the get-go to prove that they are willing to take risks. As disheartening and totally gruesome as Joel's death was, I didn't want to give up on the game just because my favorite character was gone. I wanted to take revenge on all those people alongside Ellie.

Part II's theme of revenge seems clear enough journeying as Ellie. However, when you switch to Abby, you quickly realize she has more cause for concern. This expansive section of the game allows the player to sit with their emotions and maybe think twice if Ellie's actions. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her as she converses with her friends without knowing it would be their last time. Abby's story had a strong arc and was the backbone to lift the story. She grew from a hardened killer to a woman offering forgiveness, similar to Joel.

Ellie’s revenge quest comes to an end as she realizes Abby isn’t the answer. The only way to move on and forgive Joel is by forgiving herself. The beauty of this game is that one storyline can be perceived in a hundred different ways. Naughty Dog understands this game will divide their fan base. Rather than falling back on a easy-to-please storyline, they narrated a very specific story in a bold and fresh way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The barrage of red numbers breaks my heart, for art was not designed to be spot on. Art was made to make the individual think, contort in uncomfortable stupor, and gasp in awe.

While I understand games are not TV shows, games are not primarily stories aiming at showcasing a disastrous world that can perhaps divide an audience, The Last of Us II is a game that does just that. As an aspiring writer, I always think of taking risks with storytelling, but I worry that my audience will not respect my choices. While I know I love my characters, do they ultimately belong to me, or the people who read?

The Last of Us II is phenomenal for me because it makes me uncomfortable to live in my own skin; I had to constantly look over my shoulder while playing this game, I felt like I was in trouble, and watching Joel's death did a number on my mental health, but while this made me angry, while this made me hate the game, I trod on. I felt Ellie's pain, I felt the discomfort that crept in Dina's mind when watching the woman she loved make such decisions, I felt these character's ideologies being spat at on their face because the world that they live in was not kind. We knew this starting from Sarah's death in the first game, this world was anything but kind, but this game showed us just how monstrous.

While I did not entirely enjoy playing as Abby, some of the best gameplay of the entire game was in her play through. I understand the need to hate on her, because GOD I hated her, and I not sympathise with her, and I understand that ND failed there to induce any sort of sympathy in my mind for her being, but I could not deny her existence. Abby existed in the world Joel did, and what Joel did to her was enough to have him killed, even though the way he died was just downright brutal. I jumped out of my skin while fighting the Rat King, I hated any part that displayed Abby's kindness, because who was she and why the heck did she have to be kind? She had no right after what she did to Joel. And by the time I could get accustomed to playing her, as if I were in a limbo and weren't playing The Last of Us 2 at all, I am forced to fight Ellie. I am nauseous by now, my ears were ringing, my hands were trembling and my temptation to see Ellie kill Abby was so tumultuous that I actually let it happen a couple of times, just to see it end.

But then we begin to play as Ellie. Ellie's living with her trauma, but is she really living? She can't forget the images Abby left behind for her, she can't forget what happened to Joel. Obviously, she goes after Abby. Obviously, she finds her after immense struggle, and quite practically leaving behind everything she could have loved. The image Abby left behind for her, Joel's dying form, keeps ringing in her mind, ringing in MY mind. I will kill Abby when I find her and man, how satisfying it'll be.

But we find Abby. We find her, but she's not Abby. She's a shell of who she was, lost everything and the look of pathetic desperation in her eye. I am awed, disgusted, and I know what's coming. I am praying in my mind, 'No, Ellie, it's not worth it, don't kill her', and I say 'It's not worth it', because Abby is no longer a threat. Abby is a dot in the scheme of existence itself, Abby is dead. Abby is gone. But, we fight her and my goodness, what a troubling experience that was. Neither one want's to fight, while both are struggling to live. Tired of having merely survived all these months.

The image of what Abby left behind, Joel's dying corpse, is now replaced by the image Joel left behind. A loving man, drinking coffee too late in the night, playing his guitar. He is soft here, because given the chance, he would have always been, and he is proud of Ellie, because when was he not? Killing Abby the way she is would ridicule the very life a man like Joel had lived.

The game was heartbreaking because the emotions were spilling out. I did not like Abby, but playing as her made me sympathise with Ellie more. Playing as Abby made me understand that the world is not black and white, but shades of grey plastered over the horizon in uncomfortable shades, shades meant to push and pull, make your mind ebb and flow with the current this game chose to flow with. I am thrilled to say I loved this game, loved every second, while I wasn't too sure while playing it. For the mere fact that it destroyed my psyche, I think the Last of Us II is a masterful genius in its genre, and while the hate breaks my heart, I think it is not a game meant to be enjoyed by everyone.

The plot is extremely degenerate, the writers who wrote it need to be fired without severance pay the game is very well made technically, but it is absolutely idiotic continuation of the plot. If you wanted to come up with something hot and interesting - do not kill Joel in the middle of the game and build a plot around Ellie and Joel - where for example Ellie falls in love with Joel and Joel see in it just a daughter and let's say she would not have fully guessed what happened at the end of the first part and at the end it would turn out and so on. well, in general, the overall concept of the plot is about this would be much more profitable - as it is... The Graphics, Music, Audio, And mainly the scene with Ellie singing and playing Take on Me, Those are the only good things about this game and that's why it deserves at least a 1. Why force the player to play as the "Villain" she was the villain no matter what, you can say she was justified but if you asked every parent in the world 99.9% of parents wouldn't sacrifice someone who is basically a child to them mainly after already losing a child. And then you go even further and not even give us a choice to do something like Kill or show mercy to Abby at the end... How dare you try to make us Sympathies with the Murderer of a man only trying to protect his "daughter" and the main character of the first game then not even let us choose if we spare her life or not. After finishing the game I rewatched the Take on Me song and cried just trying to fathom how, why, who, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?! WHAT DID I JUST GO THROUGH!?!?!? I hoped for the best and couldn't even imagine this... Which is a nice shiny beautiful disappointment. I hope someone makes something to erase this from our minds and saves this storyline and these characters who didn't deserve this. Expand

The last of us part 2 is not for the faint of heart. To start, let’s talk leaks without spoiling anything. To start, let’s talk leaks without spoiling anything. As someone who went in spoiled, I can say that it did ruin some surprise and I had prejudice going in. I must say that after playing, there are leaks that are completely false. The game does not spread any agenda other than its central theme of violence and revenge. There is no religious cults saying homophobic slurs. The character people thought was transgender is in fact a straight women. There is one trans side character and I’m sure most people wouldn’t even realize it. Gameplay: it’s still the last of us in its core, however it plays more like a metal gear game with prone added. As Ellie you are faster than Joel, constantly moving around. Playing on survival was a must for me. Every encounter must be thought about. Running and hiding is always an option. Spaces are much larger and it gives you breathing room to plan out routes to take to get an upper hand on an enemy. Upgrades are back, but this time there are different upgrade branches that you unlock by finding magazines. There are missable items/equipment so exploration is rewarded greatly. Weapons feel nice and have impact. There are new enemy types/upgraded infected from previous games that make you really think about how to approach them differently than their counterparts. They mesh together different enemies on maps together more than the first game. This game quite a few boss fights which surprised me in a nice way. Sound: beautifully orchestrated and captures the feel of the moment. Very similar to the first game. Enemies scream in agony during death. Infected sound even creepier. Clickers screeching is absolutely terrifying. Level design: absolutely amazing. Most areas have multiple paths to take. There is an open-world like section early on in the game that blew me away. There are many things to crawl under to hide, ways to sneak from one side of an area to another in fights. Items are usually in places that are intuitive. Scissors in Barber shops, scrap metal for weapon upgrades scattered on tool racks in garages, etc. overall just Well thought out level design that naughty dog is know. Graphics: best looking game I’ve seen. Better than red dead redemption 2 and anything I’ve seen on my high end pc.. and this is on a base model ps4. It’s just gorgeous to look at. Amazing feat.

Story: If you can get over one major portion of the story (everyone that knows the spoilers knows what I’m talking about) you will enjoy this game. I guarantee you. Dont go in expecting the same game as before because it is tonally different. The story is darker than the first game. It tells the tale of Ellie and another character who I won’t mention in their quest for revenge, much in the vain of something like red dead redemption 1. The story takes many unexpected twists and turns and leaves you thinking about the game long after it’s over. This is a game of perspective. If you are someone who can see two sides to an argument and see where both are coming from, you will love the story.

I love the graphics an how accurate the characters are designed.
Some points of the story and some decisions of the characters may not make that much sense but the psychological way which the characters go through are just amazing. I love the gamr and also the new character abby has been hardly introduced but in the end you understand her.

It's honestly so odd that people dislike this game considering just how excellent it is. the plot may seem like a left field choice but I honestly loved the story choices. This isn't something for those who wanted a happy ending and things to go well for the characters we grew to like in part 1 (and honestly Joel did make such a dark choice and is by no means a hero). it's dark and complex and we need more of this non-pandering in media. I can only think naughty dog may have misjudged it's audience as this wasn't the narrative gamers wanted BUT it is an excellent narrative and would stand strong as a series or a movie. This isnt a marvel plot with heroes and villains. This is a horror game about people with questionable motivations that can be understood. the gameplay is excellent and akin to something like MGSV (not quite that flexible but the same sense of freedom) Expand

Why is everything exactly like this? Why can't anything be fixed and we can only accept what is happening? So many years of waiting... This is not even close to the first part. This is terrible.

Behind lesbians and Abby's first breast size, a very blue plot is hidden, although not everyone sees it. “Violence begets other violence,” said Neil Drackmann, and he did not lie. One death gave rise to another, and that death is still a lot of deaths, and these deaths and so on. Around Abby's insults, many may not notice that she is a very deep character who avenged her father. What did Ellie do after that? She also avenged her “father”, killing everyone who was dear to her. There are no positive or negative characters in this game. There is rather more and less evil. And as for me the least is Abby. But you can and should be mad at her, because what did Joel do to her? He killed her father in order to save the girl in whom he saw his dead daughter, with the girl with whom he walked half the country. This is paternal love. It is not difficult for fathers to understand her, as for me, but naughty dog was able to convey this love. The same love for any person, I think I would do the same, even with my daughter, even with a girl. This man is dear. It was very good to show the story from Abby, so we are left with a double opinion about the characters of this game. The end shocked me, but I am very glad that this is how it ended. Enough was the deaths all this time, killing Ellie or Abby, the developers would have destroyed the last drop of humanity in this game, but they did not. Yes, this is not the first part, but they are ABSOLUTELY different. Everyone should go through it at least 2 times, it’s good that there is a “new game +”. Everybody calls Neal, but I understood the game and I want to say thanks to Naughty dog. Just think about it and penetrate the plot, it is very deep. (Ellie and Abby, even here the catch in the similarity of names, which proves some genius of the developers). This game, like a great book, you need to go beyond its borders in order to understand it more. Dina and Jesse are characters purely for Ellie's storyline, so to speak. Abby's storyline characters were more interesting. And this Levi’s sneakers exactly like Ellie’s sneakers from tlou part first. This unreal, this story really legendary. Thank you Neil Druckmann and Naughty dog. Thank you. It’s really bad that people can’t understand this story, it’s so deeply. Expand

It's a miracle, that let gamers know how disgusting the story of a game can be. I haven't finished this trash and I never will. If that's not possible to get our moneys back, please rewrite this or just make a Director's cut version?

Absolutely loved it. The fact that a lot of people hate it is because the game takes strong choices that can make feel the players a lot of pain. That kind of intensity is what i think makes the game so great, plus the graphics are really spectacular, it is truly a next gen looking game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
