    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The positive reviewers like to act like they are making good points when arguing why Joel was meant to die. No one disagrees Joel deserved to die, he was never established as a morally good character and he made a selfish decision which condemned the human race. No one is angry Joel died we are angry about how he died. My take on this would be much different if we were introduced to Abby long before she brutally murders Joel. They set them self up with an insurmountable task of creating empathy for Abby. And they didn't even try, we got a ten minute scene where she saves a Zebra with her father then they reveal Abby is the person who convinced them Ellie should be murdered to save humanity. If the writers are trying to make the player empathize with Abby why would they establish her as the one who condemned Ellie which inevitably led to Joel killing her father?

    Later on in the story we are introduced to Lev who saves Abbys life. This prompts Abby to betray the wolves to save Lev. This decision of Abbys feels like a fruitless attempt by the writers to establish Abby as a morally good character in order to gain empathy from the audience. They're trying to define Abby as selfless contrary to her making numerous selfish decisions. It's hard to say anything for certain about Abby's character because every other decision is conflicting. One moment she is selfless the next she is selfish. When it comes to condemning Ellie her morals are for the good of the many but when it comes to saving Lev her morals are for the good of the few. She gets very angry when she finds out Ellie has killed her friends yet she's already betrayed these friends and was prepared to leave these friends behind to help Lev.

    The story overall is nonsensical and revolves around and characters literally abandoning and losing everything in a fruitless quest for revenge. Both Abby and Ellie quite literally sacrificed everything over avenging the deaths of two people in a world where everyone has lost someone. Death and violence is around almost every corner of this world. Yet for whatever reason these two people are so special our characters travel thousands of miles killing hundreds to enact their revenge. Even after watching the bond which is formed between Joel and Ellie in the first game I have a hard time believing that Joel's death was enough to bring on this murderous rampage. Especially after Joel and Ellie’s rough relationship has been established.

    This world isn't the same world we were put into in the first game. There is no hope in this world, there is only violence and sadness. The violence is so over the top that by the end of the game I was completely numb to it all. The game heavily relies on shock value that was brought about through overly violent and grotesque actions perpetrated towards beloved characters which was so overly used it left me feeling nothing when the game came to it's final conclusion and this mattered the most. At no point were we given any sort of relief or loving character development which gave us respite from the sadness and violence of this world previously. In the first game Ellie provided 90% of this relief from the awful world we were witnessing. But she is now a shadow of her former self, despite spending her years safe and sheltered in a settlement with electricity she has completely lost the spark we saw in the first game. The conclusion of the game is hollow, hundreds die in this needless revenge plot and one singular person being saved who the player has established no empathy for is supposed to bring meaning to all the meaningless violence.    … Expand

    This is a brilliant game with a lot of risks taken from the narrative perspective. It's easy to understand why there are people so wildly mad against it. Small minds.
    So, in the end, love it or hate it. But I strongly feel very disappointed seeing so many dumb people destroying this titanic effort full of fine art, talent and inspiration.

    Good things upfront, it features some minor improvements to the gameplay of the first installment, it has the best 'game journalist' difficulty mode, so that I don't even doubt that aforementioned professional 'critics' got through the game in a breeze. Apparently because her dad was the Fireflies' surgeon you kill at the end (a random NPC you see for 2 sec that's barely a character.) she's justified somehow. How lovely.

    If you value storytelling, writing, plots, and character development, then this game is master class on how NOT to write your story.

    TLOU2 is NOT a sequel to TLOU, it's an extremely pretentious metacommentary on violence and a statement about the "cycle of the revenge." It's this silly tit for tat revenge story. Not something even worth committing to writing.

    Don't believe most of the positive reviews. They're corporate shills lying to you, saying that we're bots or whatever. PLEASE NOT BUY THIS GAME. I implore you... or you'll be as upset, disappointed, and depressed as I was playing this. The leaks were 100% true and sadly I didn't heed them.     The first game I ever played that hit so much, you cannot fully understand the plot without refreshing your memory after completing the first part. A lot has changed, weapons improvements, a new skill system, now you have a diary, as in RDR 2.
    There are some very cool things (take a closer look at the tracks in the snow, falling snow, glass and moss when you swim in the swamps).     It was something very different from the Part 1, but it was unforgettable. It’s adult game with adult screenplay. It’s unique game that I’ve never played before and I’ve never felt such complicated and different emotions to characters. Gameplay 10/10. I can’t even imagine how you guys made it. It’s a giant work and I know that many of you sacrificed a lot to create this masterpiece. ThankIt was something very different from the Part 1, but it was unforgettable.     They did improve on almost all areas comparing to LoU Part I exept most important ones being storytelling, character/-deveploment and pacing of the game...so my score comes for, graphics, gamedesing/gameplay,sounds,music and flashbackscenes with Joel and Ellie.

Cada juego tiene algunos problemas menores, esto está MUY lejos del peor juego que he jugado, y sí, aunque creí que la decisión de jugar como Abby varias veces fue una elección muy peculiar. Uno con el que al principio no estaba completamente de acuerdo, pero después de completar el juego, realmente siento y entiendo las perspectivas de Ellie y Abbie. El juego y los gráficos realmente se destacan 10/10 para ese PERO, mientras que algunas de las opciones de la historia pueden parecer extrañas a veces. Al final, creo que la elección de Ellie no es que perdonó a Abby, sino que matarla no traería a Joel de regreso. Abby tuvo que vivir consigo misma sabiendo lo que había hecho si sentía remordimiento o no "probablemente no". Para concluir, aunque esta historia puede no ser para todos. Personalmente lo disfruté, las emociones en esta historia realmente me llevaron de vuelta al primer juego, ese final desgarrador realmente me pareció justo, ESTO NUNCA SIGNIFICA TENER UN FINAL FELIZ. While the graphics and attention to detail are incredible, the gameplay feels outdated as the improvements and innovations are minimal and the whole experience becomes tedious, especially in the final hours. Most important of all however, the story is simply uninspired and does not deliver as beloved characters are reduced to nothing, and the newly introduced characters are not fleshed out or developed in any way. Characters make extremely dumb decisions just to further the desired narrative and this completely takes you out of the experience. The shoehorned political narratives also do not help the game's likability in the slightest. It is also worth mentioning that some scenes in the trailers are very misleading which can only be seen as taking advantage of people's faith in ND. What was marketed to people and the final product are extremely different. An incredibly nonsensical and dissatisfying ending really is the cherry on top and as such the game leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. Truly expected more from the creators of the masterpiece that is The Last of Us Part 1.… Expand

    Historia 10 Los desarrolladores del juego lograron que todos hablen de este juego. gente que incluso no había jugada la primera entrega, con toda esta polémica se animó a jugarlo y averiguar sobre el videojuego . El juego me transmitió muchos sentimientos encontrados, me impactó y algo que impacta no se olvida. Pude empatizar con todos los personajes, pude entender el sentimiento de cada uno de ellos, por eso me encantó. En un mundo post-apocalíptico uno de nuestros mayores enemigos son los seres humanos en su lucha por sobrevivir ó generar dominio sobre los demás. Creo que el juego busco hasta el más mínimo detalle , esas canciones precisas. El final la pelea cuerpo a cuerpo entre Ellie y Abby fue waho!! Me encantó! Me hizo vibrar, gritar, llorar, perdonar, consolarme, me hizo sentir. Yo quería un final en que sea Ellie quien le perdone la vida a Abby y que luche consigo misma para no terminar de perder su esencia. El objetivo de Joel era que Ellie viva . Arriesgó su vida y la dio por amor a una niña que amaba como su hija. Sabía que se ganaría muchos enemigos quitándole la cura a la humanidad, pero aún así lo haría una y otra vez si fuera necesario.     Simplesmente incrível. o início é muito triste e me deixou muito puto, porém, vai começando a melhorar a cada vez mais. eu tive uma surpresa imensa quando apareceu aquilo gigante.... mas o jogo em si REALMENTE É 10!!!!! GOTY 2020. quem está criticando e tendo preconceito com o game, não tem maturidade para jogar essa obra prima.

    If you ever played TLOU1 and you liked you (i hardly doubt you disliked), in that case you liked the story, the connection between Ellie and Joel, you wanted to get more related to this bond, but the game forces you to play    So, basically if you never played TLOU1 you might can enjoy the game play, the environmental, in that aspect the game is 5-7 out of 10, but the story is still awful.

Some say that most of who have given the low score are those who not even played the game, and I'm one of those. I don't need to play, why should I, because this game only the story matters. It all started with Joel's death, it made me feel like that I was being fooled by ND. In the 2017 game announced trailer and the 2019 Joel trailer, all revealed that Joel would fight along side with Ellie, though Ellie did want to avenge for something but I could never guess for Joel's death. But finally the story turned out to be completely up side down from what I had expected. I'm not blaming Joel's death, maybe he did have his reason to "die", but I'm really really angry about how my feeling is being manipulate by ND's misleading trailers, it makes us totally fools, it looks like we have been betrayed. So don't believe IGN's or GamingBolt's 10/10 masterpiece bull **** they just forget about one thing, that people's emotion really matters. Even though the story did have its logic for its cruel world settings, but we should always keep in mind that those games are just entertaining products, they should bring about fun, and not pain, if those well saying reviewers really want to review a game for the players, I recommend that they keep that in mind too. Beside Joel's death, I can't image that ND even want your to experience Joel's murderer--Abby's life with your own hands. Oh, gods, what the hell are they thinking about? After they have made the game as real as possible, and finally they just ask you to believe that this is just a game, and you shouldn't take side between Ellie and Abby the two characters, how can even that possible. I just doubt that how many people can really take that, seems like we have been fooled by ND once again. When a game, that build its name on storytelling hires a 16y old kid from Tumblr to write a script, this is how it looks like. I wanted another great story with character development and constructed plot, I got 2 adult women acting like angry teenagers chasing each other for 25h. As you look at the game, it is strong, animations feel realistic and intense, but these great moments cant hide the fact that the second part had a lot more potential, sad they wasted it.
    Positives: Great visuals (the fact that it runs on PS4, incredible), game mechanics, various new settings, intense-looking and emotional scripted sections...

When you create a game, you expect players to have some kind of agenda towards the game, some motivation for them to play. When you motivate players to start playing the game, because they hate it and want revenge for the character they love – that is a failure from the start. Players won’t appreciate even the most polished game, when they hate the motivation to play it.

    As a player, I have to care about the game to play it, now I don’t. The point of the whole thing is to be excited to play the game. To be exited of gameplay complementing the story. To be exited to go all the way through along with your character to see how it ends. I’m not exited already. And I won’t be, knowing that the ending goal is to meet someone who killed the character I liked. I don’t even want to continue the story now. No excitement at all. I just feel miserable.

    I hate Abby and I don’t care about her actions being justified towards Joel. This was never black and white matter. This was always about picking sides. And I pick the side of characters I like. Of course in the beginning when i was playing as Abby in Seattle i didn't like it at all. I was just mad at her for what she did, but playing more and more with her and seeing what gave her that kind of hate, i felt that for her as well... I am not saying i liked her more than Ellie, because Ellie is the character we all know and love. And i totally felt more for her with the things that happened in the beginning of the game with Joel's death of course (which really broke my heart)... But after playing through Ellie's part of the story made it a bit softer with every kill from the people of the group in Jackson, and by the time we were playing as Abby i hated her, but seeing the bigger picture and looking back after finishing the game i see why they both did what they did... So yeah... I LOVE THIS GAME... Everything is just so well crafted from how the story ties in to the game play... Just wow... Good job Naughty Dog!!… Expand

    The graphics in this game are phenomenal. The game play is great. It feels solid, smooth, brutal, all good things. The problem for me at least is the story. Some of the decisions of the characters fell so weird, out of place. Most of all at end. The story is were the game falls flat.

    Могу с уверенностью сказать то что первая часть по сюжетной части будет получше. Всё дело во второй половине игры, где нам дают поиграть за ненавистного всем персонажа. Я понимаю, как хотели NaughtyDog: проявить симпатию к антагонисту. Видимо, игроки это явно не одобрили, объяснив это оценкой 3 балла(уже 5) - у игроков, у журналистсов - 9,6(нет, им не заплатили) когда первую часть оценили в 9,4. Можно было обнаружить умников, которые писали на метакритике специально минимальные баллы, ну да, на сайте где не обязательно приобретать игру. К тому же ЛГБТ повестка является вторым ламателем дров.
    Я не говорю то что она мне не нравится. Я поиграл 50 часов, конечно игра понравилась. Планку портит первая часть. Я ждал тандем-тандемище, а его нет.     Graphically its amazing, great visuals and smooth textures. Controls a lot smoother than the first one and the combat feels a lot more fluid.

    Thr story is very well done, its heart breaking and heart warming all at in one. It creates drama and tension, makes you worry for the characters and even challenge your beliefs about well established characters. It is one of the most humanising games I have seen and really shows the effect of the characters choices.

    All I can say is go in with an open mind, it is different from the first but not in a bad way. This deserved a 10 and naughty dog deserves more praise than its getting. Sadly in todays world people cant think laterally and when something doesnt go their way they jump on their keyboard and slam the hard work that was put in rather than trying to understand the message of the game.    … Expand

The ending is not as happy as a lot of people might want it, but it makes sense, cause Ellie gets what she deserves for throwing away her family and the life she had to hunt Abbey down. It feels a bit out of control, cause you can't really make a decision yourself, but that is also a good thing, cause it shows, how the death of a close character can change you for worse. If you don't like a game, that doesn't let you make most decisions yourself, don't play it. If you like an amazing and overarching story and also good story telling, feel free to try this game. It really reflects what loss causes for a lot of people and how it leads you to make decisions that are driven by anger and grief. And that is what this game teaches you. And for anyone hating the ending: a game doesn't have to have a 100% happy ending. Ellie gets what she deserves for leaving Dina and JJ to hunt down Abbey. And I think a lot of people are way too fastidious when it comes to happy endings and how they demand at least 50% happiness for a character. The game shows a sad truth about life: You don't allways get what you want, and not everything ends happy. Cause fu*king up and the cause of that happens in real life.     So I played the whole game and it was only a torture, only one single moment was epic. (that's why 1/ 10). At the end I just rushed through it because it was making me more and more uncomfortable to playing the game. I was never so disappointed in a game, first part of the last of us was 10/10.

    I don't like when people say "you just didn't like the game because you didn't get it," but it honestly feels like most people were so emotionally invested in Joel's death that they literally didn't pay attention to anything the game was doing for the remaining 20 ish hours afterward.

    If the central messages of the game were this difficult for people to grasp... I guess it is valid criticism that the game wasn't clear enough? But then there's another crowd criticizing the game for being hamfisted in delivering its themes.

    All I know is that for me, the story totally worked. I certainly didn't agree with the character's decisions all the time, but this isn't supposed to be a game with player choice in a branching narrative. It's just trying to help you understand why the characters make the decisions they do, and for me it was absolutely successful.

    Ellie sets off on a revenge quest and gets so caught up in it that she sacrifices the bright future she had with Dina. Abby, meanwhile, has finished her own revenge quest at the start of the game, leaving her somewhat purposeless, and she struggles to find something to live for while Ellie hunts her down. In the end, Ellie finally realizes what Abby has learned, that protecting people you care about is the only way to truly rid yourself of your internal demons, but it's tragically too late as Dina has already decided to leave her.

    The internal struggle to move on from loss and past traumas in general is not a novel or earth-shattering idea, but the game explores this struggle fully, with compelling characters, and an insane level of detail in both world-building and plot consistency. If this isn't what people recognize as a fantastic game, I have no idea what they want...

    And what are people talking about the SJW agenda of the game? Yeah there's a couple LGBT characters. The game spends almost 0 time on this, so who cares?    … Expand

I didn’t like abby one bit, I hate her character, I feel hear really force, why did they make me play with a character that kill one of my favorites character, why the hell do they make me kick and punch and hurt Ellie, I didn’t want to, why you I character that wasn’t even rellevant in the trailers, posters and everything results more important than Ellie, Ellie had the worse ending, get kick, his guardian dead, sequels of the attact, lose 2 fingers, her girlfriend left her, omg and abby lives and get on, oh for crist, I hate this game and I played it, and the mecanics didn’t save for me, the history… Expand

    The story is just too poor, when the game was announced it creates a lot of hype between the fans, then they gave us this piece of "videogame" isn't the worst game I've ever played but I was expecting a lot more than this, I'm really disappointed

    A história decepciona e o final não compensa.
    Dou nota 0/10 para demonstrar total insatisfação mesmo o jogo tendo jogabilidade interessante e bons gráficos, da mesma forma que dão nota 10/10 os que precisam proteger um jogo que não agradou a maioria e realmente não merece a nota exageradamente forçada    Uma pena....desisti de comprar o jogo depois de acompanhar o gameplay e ver o final.

    Amazing game. The graphics are breathtaking, the gameplay is great and every character is just lovable. Naughty Dog has done it again.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
