    Masterful gameplay and breakthrough character arcs. The characters you love will downward spiral. Does that make it bad? No, it's a hard to watch drama and there is nothing l like it. Very brave story.

As a developer myself, i know it's impossible to please everyone, even more in a game like The Last of Us, a huge hit. I saw plenty of people saying that the end of TLoU Part I was "Happier" than it should be, now people are complaining about a character being killed... In my opinion, i think they took the right way doing this, because then we could explore more Ellie, Tommy and all the new characters in some different ways. I really enjoyed playing as Abby, it's good to see both sides of the story, plus, we can see how things we did with Ellie interfered in Abby's story. The saddest part for me wasn't Joel's death, it was when Ellie comes back from Santa Barbara and the Dina is not there anymore, there's nothing left but Ellie's things. I understand that some of you didn't like Joel's death, but the game has a huge story besides that, amazing by the way. If you have a bad review about a game just because of a plot and ignore everything else, including the incredible gameplay and mechanics, you need to grow up and try to be mature.… Expand

It builds on and surpasses its predecessor (and the games of the Uncharted series) to an almost absurd degree. I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog is able to achieve technically on the PlayStationThe Last of Us Part II is technically stunning, with some of the best graphics, environments, motion-capture performances, character animations, and set pieces ever constructed for a video game.     It does all of that while telling a much more nuanced and difficult story than is typical for video games, even in other compelling narrative-driven games.

    The Last of Us Part II doesn't give you the illusion of choice, but it does pull you in and make you complicit in the actions of these characters. When you watch a film, it's possible to maintain a mental distance from the actions characters take. Even for a character you identify or sympathize with you remain a passive observer. You aren't allowed to do that here. You will hate some of the things these characters do, and feel disgusted by their brutality and remorselessness. You will also love the quiet periods in-between and the playful interactions between old friends, and wish those moments could last.

    This is not a game that wants to satisfy you -- it wants to challenge you. Your reward is the time you spend in its magnificently damaged world and the many ways it makes you feel along its path.

    Nothing created is perfect, including this game, but to me it is a masterpiece and I will cherish my relationship with it forever.    … Expand

    Amazing. Ignore the negative Nancy's. You're missing out on the best game of its generation if you don't play it.
    The storyline is alot more intelligent than pandering to the fairy tale that people wanted. It's dark, it's emotional, it makes you feel, it makes you question yourself. That ontop of the amazing graphics and gameplay. You simply cannot ask for a better game.

    Playing as Abby was a bit strange in the beginning but in the end I had more fun with her story line than with Ellie's.

    The graphics are just stunning. The sound is amazing. Gameplay is the best I have ever experienced. The game could have been shorter though. In the end I just wanted to know how it ends and I think 5 less hours could have worked as well. But this is the only small negative point that comes to my mind about TLOU 2.    … Expand

I'm convinced the vast majority of negative reviews come from people who haven't even played the game. Yes, this game does have a couple lgbtq+ characters, but so does the audience playing this game, and Ellie has been gay since the first game. Furthermore, people are mad about how Joel died, but as far as I'm concerned the portion was written well. He was forced into a situation of being around strangers, none of which showed hostility until he gave his name. All in all this game has the best graphics on ps4, some of the best gameplay on ps4, and a truly immersive storyline that forces you to feel emotions and get involved on a deeper level.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Fantastic game. It builds on the world of the first one, with amazing graphics and great story telling. The banter between characters is great, and the highlights in the game almost always involve interactions between them.

    Cons: Occasionally the pacing isn't great, giving you a little too much space to explore which slows down the story a lot. The combat continues to just be OK my opinion, and with stretches of gameplay alone, with no minor character banter, can drag, and doesn't quite live up to the first installment (which was a 9.5 for me). But pretty damn close.

    Overall though, still one of the best story/atmosphere games on this gen of console.

    For those hating: Stop being sexist bigots. I bet if Ellie and Joel traded places at the start, and everything else stayed the same, you all would love the game. Get your heads out of your asses, and grow up.    … Expand

    Just finished the game. Absolute masterpiece. The gameplay is great, the graphics are great and the story is great too. It really gives a broader context to the story of TLOU1 too. Absolutely recommend the game, regardless of the reviewbombers (who haven't even played the game)

    The game is not bad, it has interesting gameplay. but only if the difficulty is above average.
    The characters are not bad. but with the transgender girl, as for me, they went too far.
    The end is what it should be, but I was hoping Ally would kill Abby.

The story is interesting and great BUT it doesn’t fit the first game not even a single bit. I know they said that they’re taking a different approach with it and that was a big mistake in my opinion. They could of killed Joel in later parts of the game and nobody would complain. Some are giving negative reviews because of LGBTQ+ implemented in the game but that’s just stupid. I personally didn’t care about that but the problem was lack of connection between Ellie and Dina. I enjoyed the game nevertheless, even tho I was hoping for a better story. First game still holds the crown in TLOU franchise.

    The Last of Us Part ll is a great game. Beautifully crafted and with an impeccable and stunning visual design, full of drama and darkness, it takes Ellie's story through darker horizons, a wonderful soundtrack although not as bright as its predecessor, still one of the best games of the generation and in its genre. .

But a story should at least be experienced in it's entirety before it gets written off as garbage. A lot of people who saw the leak decided to review bomb this game months before release. Actual living people who call themselves game critics or reviewers and have large following said things like "This game is so bad, I'm not even going to play it." when the news about the leak was trending, a sentiment which should be seen as entirely inadequate from the perspective of someone who reviews games for a living. Clearly that sentiment has lasted through to release, and review bombers were in full force within hours of the launch.
    Thing is, while this isn't the story many people had envisioned (whatever that means when you knew nothing about the follow-up plot to begin with), it's not even bad. I do admit it takes awhile to get going, I didn't really like how fast things happened at the beginning, but I also didn't discredit an entire games worth of storytelling based on the first few moments. I really like where the story leaves off, and I like that they've established that Joel and Ellie aren't the Nathan Drake of this series, it's a harsh world they live in and everyone has to bite the dust someday.    … Expand

I really don’t understand the toxicity of the hater, or maybe they haven’t played this master piece....I hope metacritic create a verification option to only let the people actually play the game can rate this.

    Graphically, this game is a masterpiece. Naughty dog has garnered a reputation for polish and detail in their games and this is no exception. Fantastic attention to detail and unbelievably fluid animations. This is the first game I have played where i felt so strange to go sprinting and jumping everywhere purely because the level of realism is so high that it felt off when the characters didn't act like actors in a film. Every location and area has its own characteristics and little details, and there's never a bland or repetitive scene. 10/10

    The story is leagues ahead of other games in the same genre but that's to be expected from a narrative experience. The progression and decisions of the characters are certainly not objective but every action is understandable. Juxtapositions and relationships between characters initially come off as somewhat overplayed and predictable, but as the narrative plays out the characters' development and interactions consistently keep the player invested and keep the story unpredictable. 8/10

    The gameplay experience takes everything that was done well in the original and both improves and compounds on it. I chose to play on the 'Hard' on my first playthrough and felt that items and ammunition could have been more scarce, but understand that I'm more attuned to save on and hoard resources instead of use them regularly like many players. My second playthough on the hardest difficulty had me feeling more challenged, and somewhat reminded me of classic survival horror games; a feeling I'd been sorely missing, making me love the game even more. Depending on how you play, the gameplay can pace down the story structure and damage the player's immersion a little, but that issue felt minor and was forgotten about seconds later every time it came up. 9/10    … Expand

    Points Négatifs :

    - Le jeu a quelques bug (perso j'ai eu : corde qui disparaît et perso qui bug) cela reste rare quand même

    - Musique de Gustavo moins présente et c'est dommage vue la qualité de ces musique

    Point Positif :

    - J'aime beaucoup le gameplay, il et sympa et il a était améliorée (exemple : Ellie peut grimper plus facilement, elle peut ce coucher au sol, se mettre en dessous des voiture, ce cacher sous les hautes herbes, etc... Pareil pour Abby aussi bien évidemment) bref y'a plusieurs possibilités de tuer des ennemi aussi (soit on fonce dans le tas soit on fait discrètement) on peut jouer a notre manière et explorer les environs que ce soit des bâtiments etc... On peut améliorer nos arme grâce a se qu'on ramasse ou bien on peut confectionner tout sorte de chose (soins, cocktail motolvo, surin, flèche, etc...) et j'aime beaucoup ce système de jeu, enfin bref perso j'adore le gameplay qui et réaliste et sympa

    - Les graphisme. J'aime beaucoup il sont magnifique et très bien fait, Les développer ce sont inspiré de la vrai ville et ça prouve qu'il essaye toujours d'être le plus réaliste possible (c'est pas nouveau mais c'est réaliste) on voit vraiment qu'on ai dans un jeu post-apocalyptique grâce a la végétation sur les bâtiment et les routes effondré bref pour moi (donc mon avis a moi) c'est le plus beau jeu graphiquement

    - Les personnages, je trouve déjà que le personnage de Abby et très bien réalisé, ceux qui on jouer au jeu jusqu'au bout savent que Abby et une personne bien (même si je l'aime toujours pas personnellement) mais je l'aime plus qu'au début du jeu en tout cas. Pour Ellie et Dina, je trouve que c'est le meilleur duo du jeu et les seul moment réconfortant dans le jeu c'est des cinématiques entre elles, leur relation et magnifique du début a la fin, on voit vraiment qu'elle s'aime etc... Bref j'adore leur relation.Bref j'aime beaucoup les personnage, ils sont tous bien écrit je trouve

    - Ensuite j'aime beaucoup le faites que Naugthy Dog nous ai fait jouer Abby car son point de vue et intéressent après je peut tout a fait comprendre que certains n'ont pas aimer la jouer mais personnellement au début j'étais un peu énervé de la jouer mais plus on la joue plus on l'aime bien et on la comprend, perso j'ai aimer.

    - L'histoire du jeu ma ému, perso je comprend pas vraiment pourquoi certains n'aime pas le scénario parce que je le trouve incroyables (après chacun son avis hein) , cette histoire de vengeance et bien écrit et super bien fait, j'avais peur de ne pas aimer mais au final j'ai apprécié...

    - etc... (je peut pas tout mettre ;-;)

    Bref voilà mon avis et le jeu mérite 9/10 (mais la faut monter la note mdrr c'est pas possible sinon) pour ma part, si vous aimer les jeu post-apocalyptique avec de la violence et avec un scénario qui se base sur la vengeance (je conseil d'abord de regarder ou jouer le 1 bien évidemment) Foncer et vous aller aimer sans aucun doute.Bref perso c'est le jeu le plus beau et incroyable que j'ai jamais jouer, pour moi il dépasse largement le 1er

    perso ceci et mon avis personnelle et je croirais seulement en mon avis et même que vous y croient ou pas peut importe, je veux juste donner mon avis sur ce jeu car ce jeu va me marquer a vie ...

    Beautifully nuanced writing is the staple yet again albeit with a brash way of conveying it. Despite wavering at times, it’s sense of overbearing morality stems through characters, story and outlook on life. Gameplay however lacks variety and affairs meander way too long to the point it forgets it’s a Video Game.

    Last of us part 2 is a great addition to the playstation family with a very thought out story that challenges your thinking, challenges your loyalties and shows you in the last of us universe, each action could have a painful consequence. Quanto a jogabilidade com a Abby, creio que a Naughty Dog quis nos mostrar que toda história tem sua versão, ou que cada um é o herói de sua própria história. Não precisamos e talvez nem devamos perdoar o que Abby nos fez, mas só perceber que ela também é humana e teve seus motivos, além do final nos mostrar o que um caminho repleto de ódio e vingança pode nos trazer. Ellie perdeu dois de seus dedos, o que a incapacita de tocar violão (um dos últimos elos que ela mantinha com o Joel) e também perdeu a sua nova família. Não chega aos pés do primeiro título, porém a mensagem que esse jogo pretendeu passar, é profunda e muito bem construída.     The Last of Us was my top game of all time. Part 2 has now usurped its predecessor. Don't listen to the chuds; this game is a true masterpiece. I've never encountered such vivid, fleshed out characters in a game before, and the voice acting blows everything else out of the water.

It pushes the player to feel things and it is sometimes uncomfortable to play but the story is so engaging. You’re often left wondering “who’s the good guys and who’s the bad guys here” and the answer is up to you and your perspective. All the characters have reasons for their actions and Naughty Dog allows the player to act them out, we see different view points that have us going back and forth on who’s “side” we’re on. The violence is often criticised but in this hyper violent, mostly lawless post apocalyptic world, it’s all the characters really know. The lighter moments of the game are beautiful, picking up a guitar as Ellie and listening to her play Take on Me is one of my favourite parts of the game. Visiting the museum and aquarium are a welcome relief from the tense gameplay you’re often faced with. Naughty Dog has gone to great lengths to make The Last Of Us Part II accessible. They want you to play the game, to experience the story and if that means you play it on very light mode with various gameplay toggles on, such as auto aim and invisible while prone, then that’s ok! Naughty Dog clearly want as many people as possible to experience this game and I can’t recommend it enough.… Expand

    The gameplay was incredibly immersive and a huge step up from the first game. you can hide in small grass, under trucks, navigate through small crevasses, etc. It was amazing and incredible.

    The graphics were probably the best I've seen on the PS4. so it has to be a 10.

    The story was incredible until the last 2 hours and because it took me just over 20 hours to beat the game, thats 1/10th of the story so I have to take a point off. Although I understand the ending from a theoretical point of view, I hated having to perform the action. I don't want to beat Ellie to near death. I don't want to drown Abby. But the game could not progress without me doing that. It wasn't enjoyable and I hated that section. I also hated how Ellie chose to get revenge on Abby after Abby had spared her life TWICE. three times total if you include abby driving away on the boat.

    I did really like the symbolism of ellie losing her fingers so she can't play guitar - her last connection to Joel. That really dug in me the heart then. But the ending wasn't enjoyable to play/watch. So for that I give 9/10 for the story.

For the time it had stunning graphics, sound design and most importantly, an amazing story. When the leaks came out for this game along with the backlash, I made sure to avoid them because I wanted to have a completely unbiased view on the game as I played it. After now finishing it, I can say it has replaced TLOU1 as my new favourite game.

    I'm not going to deny there were some controversial moments in it however, I still can't quite understand why people are so angry about this. What happened to a certain character set in motion the events of the entire game, and for the time I played as Ellie, I was beyond amazed at how incredible the game was. Excluding the gameplay (which was fantastic), the natural character building with everyone made me feel a connection like no other game has and my jaw spent most of its time on the floor.

    Then we get to the Abby section. It got better towards the end of her portion of the game but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't enjoy it to the same level as Ellie's gameplay (which is why I have given it a 9 instead of a 10). The confrontation between the two had me trying so hard to not fight Ellie because I wanted her to win. Whilst I understand what she did and why she did it, nothing could make me forgive her which is what decreased my enjoyment for a significant portion of the game. This still doesn't justify the backlash though.

    No game has bounced my emotions around like this before, going from elated to borderline tears in a matter of minutes. Sure there were some shortcomings which has left the option for TLOU3 in around 10 years time once people have stopped complaining about a genuinely fantastic game, but the moment's people are salty over moved me more than any other game ever has.

    Playing this game with an open mind was the best choice by far. If I had read the leaks and seen how agitated some people had gotten, it would've ruined the experience. It is a brilliant game and you can clearly see the 5+ years of development that has gone into it. Well done Naughty Dog, and I sincerely hope the negative reviews haven't affected their decision to make a third iteration.    … Expand

Although at first the change in perspective was very surprising, especially when you realize it's basically half of the game, it was very much needed and gave depth to all the characters. The moral conflict of every characters' decisions made the game even more engaging and almost by the end of the story when Ellie and Abby confront each other, you really don't know who to cheer for.

    Since I played both the prequel and this game for the story, the repetitive gameplay doesn't bother me. I did enjoy stealth kills and the part with the mini sandbox mode when exploring Seattle was one of the highlights of gameplay since it gave the player choices and wasn't as linear. Lastly, I'm very thankful to Naughty Dog for giving LGBTQ+ representation in a mainstream video game. I'd love for a small DLC epilogue where Ellie and Dina get back together.    … Expand

It’s about how you will loose things in life and how it’s hard to deal with it. This is shown because Ellie seeks revenge for Joel’s death.     Great graphics, soundtrack and animations. Huge improvement in the gameplay, it feels much more smooth, technical aspects almost perfect. Plot quite simple but really emotional, very well dubbed. There are some problems with the story and the actions of characters but none of them are unreal or impossible in the game context, great overall after all.

    Just finished my first play through and I absolutely loved it. Fantastic performances, heart breaking, gut wrenching moments, an incredibly beautiful soundtrack. Top notch game, I'm also really, really, rrrreeeeeallly enjoying watching all the homophobes have a butthurt melt down. Haha.

My personal opinion follows: I think that the reason why The Last Of Us part 1 was such a success was the relationship between Ellie and Joel. You watch the beautiful character development between the two. However you get to part two and it completely destroys everything from the last game. Not only is it just a disrespect to fans, but Joel deserved a more dignified death. Lastly the game forces you to play a character you despise and want dead. Then tries to forcefully make you pity them and understand their reasoning. The game then makes you fight against Ellie, the one person you root for the whole time. I dont care about any other controversy. Transgenders? Lesbians? Gore? I don't mind any of it. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 was because the gameplay was nice, while the story was poor.… Expand

In my opinion, the risks that Naughty Dog took with this game really pay off and deliver a story that was deeply harrowing and challenging. The twist that comes about half way through the game took me by surprise and forced me to rethink my previous convictions. Although I was first resistant to this twist, I soon came around to what Naughty Dog was trying to do with the story and, by the time the credits rolled, I thought that the twist was a stroke of genius.

    However, I did find that the pacing of the story lagged a bit in the second half. I think most, if not all, of the story beats were needed in order to tell the story, but perhaps some of the game's combat encounters could have been cut down or removed in order tighten up the second half's pacing.

    Speaking of gameplay, if you enjoyed the first game's combat, you're going to love it in Part 2. Although the combat remains largely the same, new movement options - such as going prone, squeezing through tight spaces, and hiding in tall grass - offer the player knew options when tackling combat encounters. Although none of these added features are new to gaming at large, their inclusion in Part 2 is certainly a welcome addition. Coupled with the game's detailed animation system, the gameplay feels fluid, visceral and frantic.

    Some other notable mentions: the acting in this game is phenomenal, as you'd expect given the standard set by the first game. All the actors bring their A-game and there's not a single weak link in what is huge cast of characters. The cutscenes are beautifully animated and extremely impressive. You can see tiny details, such as characters' pupils dilate, veins popping, and even the removing of a character's shirt with realistic fabric physics and no clipping (I don't think I've ever seen that in a game before). It's clear that a huge attention to detail was paid in order to make this game look as good as it does, and squeeze as much out of the PS4 as possible.

    Overall, the game is a technical masterpiece with intense gameplay. I found the story very compelling, with some minor pacing issues, however I think it is also important to acknowledge how divisive the game has been. This is not a story for everyone. It's very heavy and exhausting to play, and I don't think anyone could have guessed the direction this story would go (prior to the leaks, of course.) And although some people (quite a lot actually) won't like the direction of this story, I believe the more open-minded you go into this game, the more likely you are to appreciate and respect what it's trying to do.    … Expand

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
