The story is... ok and it sorta doesnt make sense but Joel's actions did have consequences although i would have liked for him to stay for at least until the 3rd part and even with all of this, we still have Ellie and Tommy to bring justice. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A stunning game. Visually and mechanics-wise it improves upon everything the first game did right. The attention to detail, atmosphere, artwork, are all spot-on, 10/10. Storytelling-wise, 9/10. The way Naughty Dog did it was bold and unusual, and I dare to say revolutionary. In TLOU 2, the story is stripped of narrational perspective: the thing that makes the heroes get out of a pinch, makes you sympathize with your hero and his ideals. In other words, the plot is indiferent to the two sides of the story: Ellie and Abby. It doesnt favour one or the other. What you get when employing this is a true journey of self-reflection. You can't hold on to anything or anyone, you can't just take the side the story takes because there isn't one. That's the way this game got me feeling. I couldn't hold on to Joel. I couldn't bear to see Ellie hurt, but I couldn't hold on to her either. I could empathize with Abby to some extent, but I couldn't condone her actions and couldn't hold on to her. Everything about this game was heartbreak and despair. The game accomplishes this lack of narrational perspective almost perfectly, but I feel like the Abby side need more reenforcement. We have to have in mind that Ellie was a character with a lot of history and emotional value. She was, therefore, at an advantage. That's where I feel the game failed. The two sides of the story are supposed to be equal, but Abby, because of her narrational disadvantage and lack of internal insight ( by internal insight I mean the "peep" at a person's mind, like Ellie's journal entries), feels too much like a side character. This is, for me, the reason many, while empathyzing with her, didn't care for her enough for that empathy to feel real and meaningful. This is the main reason I give the game a 9.
Now, I can't make a review of this game without addressing Joel's death. At first, I was dumbfounded. On the earliest hours of the game, they killed our dear The Last of Us hero in the most horrible way possible. I thought it was merely for shock value, but it wasn't. You see, the narrative had a problem. How can the game portray the broken relationship between Ellie and Joel? How can you truly have a sense of the tragic, the despair, the hopelesness that they feel? So they kill Joel. They make it even more tragic. Because now they didn't even have the chance to try and fix what they broke. And the storytelling that they got in exchange for Joel's death was breath-taking. They don't tell you the whole thing together. They tell you pieces of it. Flashbacks. Memories. Journal Entried. Photos. And that's the truth about loss. That's all you got of your relationship. And because Joel is dead, you cherish those moments and little things much more intensily, like Ellie does too. So even though I was very sad that Joel died and to this day it sometimes comes back to me, I think it was very very well done. Hats off to Naughty Dog to doing a very risky thing work wonderfully.
This game was loss and injustice portrayed beautifully well. But maybe it wasn't just that. I like to think that, at the end, when Ellie utterly lost everything and everyone, she also found what she was looking for. And that's a very special thing, for game with such a desolating ending, to leave a somewhat uplifting taste in your mouth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is an amazing looking game with great gameplay mechanics. The story is okay as a stand alone game but as a sequel I found it to be boring, disrespectful to fans and not at all what I waited for. Joel’s death is rushed and dumb, he looked so naive by giving his name and location in a place full of armed strangers. That’s nothing like him. Also I never came around liking Abby. She’s just a character I don’t care about. I get what naughty dog was trying to do but I waited 7 years to play as Joel and Ellie, and even if Joel had to die, let me play the whole game as Ellie, the character I actually care about, the one I waited all this time to know more about. I did not wanted to play half of this long awaited game as the character that killed Joel. A couple of hours with Abby would’ve been fine, but not half of the **** game. And Joel’s death aside, I just didn’t want to play with this characters. I mainly loved the first game because of Joel and Ellie’s relationship, all they went through, how they end up in a father/daughter relationship and their backgrounds. Even if Joel had to die, let me play this game as Ellie. If they start with such a bold move like killing Joel, a character all the fans loved, then let the story be about that. Anyone on Abby’s story (including her) could die and I would not care. Also, when you finally catch on the cliffhanger, they make you beat the **** out of Ellie with Abby. What the **** At least let me play that scene as Ellie, let me try to revenge Joel, even if the outcome is exactly the same, that was something that had to be experienced as Ellie.
Overall it is an unique experience that might be worth playing for the graphics alone. But as a huge fan, I feel they ruined everything I liked about the first game.

To be honest I'm a big fan of the franchise and I think that there is a lot of good things about the game on the graphics and the music, the sound of the water and the nature. I enjoy most of the game but the history. I think that there is a lot of no sense. How ever even the game doesn't have that memorable experience as The last of us, the truth is that the game have a propose and has been completed by the creators. I don't hate Abby for been Abby but I have feelings about the fact of her behavior and the way she killed Joel was so cruel, I do understand the revange but not the brutally on that. 1st. Im gonna address the biggest counter argument that most people at naughty dog seem to claim when they see a bad score/review against the game: Politically Im very much left leaning pro-gay rights, pro lgtb and very much a advocate for do what makes you happy and be whoever you want if it makes you happy person. However , then comes this game set in a end of the word scenario whose main character Ellie is gay with her girlfriend. So far seems fine with me here, they could have made a beautiful love story tying these 2 characters together and bringing the fans even closer to Ellie and this new lover or hers. Then you have Dina, another gay/bi character getting in a relationship with Ellie. Ok fine. Good representation to the LGBT community and a decent love story could have made these two glow in recognition from everyone. Then you have Abby an unlikely character possible in "the end of the world" with muscles that consume 10,000 calories a day and require 3 hours at the gym daily. This is where the problems start, ok so now we have another gay character that everyone ends up hating but ok. So the 3 main characters are gay/lgtb. Then you have a 4th character Lev that joins Abby that TURNS OUT is ANOTHER LGTB character than joins and become part of the main story line. Now up until now you could let things pass, but now you throw you hands up in the air tired of the PANDERING and at this point PREACHING of this whole social justice warrior intentional normalization "agenda" being shoved down your throat in a game that you just want to play to have fun. Everyone easily recognized as straight was killed off. however in a apogalactic game with just a few thousand people alive in the US, and in this world , the only survivors are the gay people. like REALLY??? These people have become exactly the type of person that they had set out to destroy.

Now in regards to the game. Best word to describe it :Terrible!

Let be realistic here, just as the first game, This is not a game with incredible gameplay and amazing in depth content. This Part 2 and it was part 1, is a game Heavily STORY DRIVEN. Is a game that will redact the characters in a form that you can empathize with them learn to love them or to hate them. I remember in the first game me continuously had me laughing and going at Ellie :"What the hell is up with this little **** as a response to her snarky and Whitty attitude that was just a front for her ever growing fatherly love towards Joel. In this game Ellie has lost all personality and likeness , basically an Emmo Young Woman that kills and murders with no reassuring reason as to why. Joel was murdered and deleted from his main role 2 hours into the game. This was the biggest mistake. Im not against killing Joel just against how they did it without adding any real meaning and value to the story. Sure revenge was the underlying tone for Ellie to hunt Abby but there were so many deviations that it just felt like that really wasn't the driving force in the game and much less when YOU SEE THE ENDING!! HOLY **** What kills the story mainly is the addition of this Abby Character. The killer of Joel who they make you play for half of the game while you are hating her for just killing your previous main character. There is so much more I could put down but this is more than enough to hate any story driven games.

The only good thing about this game is the amazingly beautiful graphics and sounds details. I did love the gore of the game and the individualistic setting of the enemies calling themselves by names all the time, which made it even more closer to real life. In my opinion First play the first game then go to Ebay and buy a used copy of this game. Dont give your money to this company for atrociously destroying an amazing franchise.

I could have given this game a 6/10 but after seeing how many "Professional" Reviews Naughty Dog bought , I will counter with what they really deserve. 0/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a story for the ages...
I'll skip over the gameplay/graphics because they're top notch.

But the story, the themes it plays with, the emotions it triggers... wow, it was exhausting, it was tough, sometimes I didn't even want to do what the game wanted me to. But I understood that I had to go through it.
This isn't your typical revenge story that required you to get your revenge at the end. This is a story about grief and forgiveness.
This is a story about how important it is to walk into someone else's shoes.

    SPOILERS AHEAD!

The developers did an amazing job at making us feel enraged at Abby for what she did to Joel. We weren't just playing Ellie, we were Ellie, we understood her motivations and goals and we were up for it. But slowly we started seeing the cracks in her. The increasing violence to reach her goal, to kill the woman who killed Joel. And she sees it too but waves it all away because killing Abby is all that matters. And we do the same, we question sometimes her actions but we push through. We wave away Dina's concerns so we can head off early to get to Nora. We're so blinded by our thirst for revenge that nothing else matters.
And then we kill a pregnant woman, we get everyone back and we realize that maybe, maybe it's time to put an end to this.

    Enter Abby.

I'll be honest, the first hours playing Abby I was mad, like, why am I playing the antagonist here?!
Why should I care about her?!

But then her story unfolds, we see a teenager who's lost her father and is struck with grief for years, and won't ever let go. Even straining her relationship with her friends. Pushing away Owen. She's not realising it yet but she's starting to lose herself. But regardless, revenge is all that matters to her. So she tracks Joel and gets her revenge. And believe me, that thirst will have you do the most despicable things.

So we play her for the most of the second half of the game. We see her brash/arrogant attitude take a hit when she's being questioned in her belief in the WLF. When the story forces her to care for someone other than herself, for Lev and Yara.
And this awakens something in her, since her dad's passing, while she had friends, she was ultimately a loner. Lev and Yara showed her another part of her that she forgot was there. She realises that, even says it at one point that she's doing it for herself. She realizes that she has to save herself.
And she had to walk into someone else's shoes (Lev and Yara's) to get to that conclusion.
This culminates with the WLF attack on the Seraphites, 2 groups so hellbent on revenge and destruction, they self-destruct, leaving nothing but ashes behind them.
They forgot their humanity and all that mattered was making the other pay.

Abby wasn't about that anymore, she wanted out, she wanted to care for herself and others, something she hadn't done since her dad's passing.

And then she goes back to the Aquarium and revenge takes over again. She wants blood. She gets Jesse's, nearly gets Tommy's and if it wasn't for Lev, she would've had Dina's.
In that scene, Lev is Abby's anchor to her humane side, he pulls her back before she crosses that line.
In her quest for revenge against Joel, she's lost everything and everyone, except for Lev. When her eyes open to that, she finally calls it quits, she breaks her cycle of revenge, of destruction. She's ready to rebuild herself by helping provide a brighter future to Lev.

Ellie on the other hand, she hasn't come to terms, because for her it wasn't all about avenging Joel, but about mending her relationship with him. They had started to mend things out when Abby pulled the rug from under them. Ellie hadn't forgiven Joel for not letting her life mean something and save the world. But she wanted to try.

That thought is still in her head months later, even as DIna and her have a restful farmlife. But the thought is clinging to her brain like the fungus. It won't let go unless she does something.

And that something leads her into her revenge path again, she doesn't want to do it but she has to. This is a brilliant representation of mental illness, of ptsd. It's not about the wants but about the urges, the itch that needs scratching. And this is one Ellie can't stand anymore.

She goes out to enact revenge on Abby.

When she finds her, Abby is a shell of her old self because of slavery. Ellie is almost hesitant but she has to do it, she doesn't say "want", but "have to". It's an urge.
She almost kills Abby, but in that moment, a flash of Joel goes through her mind. She finally realises that killing her won't bring her peace. If anything, it'll make her feel more miserable.
No, her salvation will come from somewhere different.

She lets Abby go, and by doing so, she forgives Joel for what he had done in Part I.
She's lost a lot but kept what remained of her humanity. Enough to rebuild what had been lost.
That's why I'm looking forward to Part III...

Abby is the worst character ever create on the history, how do you think i want to play that terminator after what she did. Muh Revenge is bad, look and see

The creators do not care about the fan base and ruined a legendary could be franchise. The storyline is terrible and lazy, unlike the first game. You will be disappointed. Nothing in this game is good but the graphics.

To start off they kill the main character in the most nonsensical way imaginable. Then they make you play as the antagonist trying to appeal to her reasoning, which we’ll never understand. And to top it all off, Ellie goes on a rampage to kill everyone to kill said antagonist, just to let her go free.
Wish Naughty Dog had more respect for their fan base but this game proves they couldn’t care less.

State of the art graphics. gameplay is neither complex nor revolutionary but extremely tense and immersive. The story is quite simple but so powerful and revolutionary in the ways it's told that it pushes the limits of mainstram media narrative. The way themes like grief, tribalism, revenge but most importantly forgivness are handled is shocking and devastating. A real masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why the Last of US PART 2 is Beautifully Flawed :

When I was 4, I grew up playing whatever video games I could get my hands on. I’ve become a fan of several amazing, immersive single player games like PS4 Spiderman, Uncharted Series and Crash Bandicoot. A newly released single player game called The Last of US Part 2, a sequel to the Last of US created and directed by Neil Druckmann, was a very anticipated game of the year for gamers. Before I get into it, a major leak about the game was exposed that fans were upset about. Many were quite eerie on buying the game because of this, but I decided to pre-order the game anyways because I was excited for it. In the end, once I had finished the game, I came to the conclusion that this game was Beautifully Flawed! However, I wasn’t alone.

After a few weeks following its release, The Last of US Part 2 has seen a spectacular amount of reviews with thousands -- if not millions -- of polarizing standpoints. According to Metacritic, a forum of reviews similar to rotten tomatoes but mainly for video games, revealed that The Last of US 2 (for short) had over 100,000 reviews which is insane for one video game with people either really -- and I mean really -- hating or loving the game .

The game has been polarizing due to Joel’s death because of the type of sendoff he got. To summarize, Joel and his brother Tommy find a girl named Abby and all three were being overrun by infected in a snowy hideout in the mountains. During their escape, Tommy decides to reveal their names to Abby. Eventually they make it out and the brothers meet Abby’s group. Suddenly, Abby shoots Joel with a shot gun, while others in the group severely injure Tommy. Joel is then beaten to death with a golf club by Abby with Ellie, her father figure, watches hopelessly. Many fans were angry that they saw Joel coldly killed off with no honorable or awesome death. This polarizing moment initially led fans to hate the game and even give one the idea to Cut the Disk in Half with Scissors (YouTube: Skippa). I was fine, but very distraught when that happened.

Another sorrowful moment is portrayed through the games parallel of characters when it brings you to a shocking climax that players can’t do anything about. Halfway through the game, the player is brought to a very big and sorrow climax where one of Ellie’s best friends dies by the enemy her group was trying to hunt and kill. When I least expected it, Neil Druckmann made a bold move and decided to switch the point of view of the supposed antagonist Abby and you play her the same amount of time as you do Ellie. When Druckmann switched the POV of Abby, he created a parallel showing the similarities of Abby and Ellie between what happened in the first game. Many fans didn’t like that switch because the bad guy kills a good person and we the player are to feel sorry from her perspective from last game’s events. What Druckmann did was very bold – so bold, that a good number of fans of the game decided to stop playing it.

Despite the sadness, there are still fantastic things in the game players will enjoy. The gameplay itself is fantastic. The graphics are jaw dropping, the audio is creepily crisp! As an avid gamer, and after reading a myriad of reviews, I can understand why reviews are so different from each other. Gamers and Reviewers, I know will agree that this game offers a new realistic sense that is improving with time.

Once you finish the game you won’t come out happy. In fact, you’ll probably ask yourself if this game was worth it because of how sad and dark it was. In all honesty, the game was Beautifully Flawed. Fantastic with sound, graphics, enemies, as well as some meaningful characters within the game and the different plot points. Flawed because revenge is never always the answer and closure allow people to move forward. Overall, this game is something I would highly recommend not because of the zombie gameplay, but because of how unique and bold the story was as this was the first story in any type of film that I have seen that’s brought storytelling to a new level.

Part 2 was better than its predecessor in almost all aspects. Part 1 remains my all time favorite because the development in the story and characters was more intimate. What I've really missed is more moments between Ellie and Joel. Which makes me look back with melancholy to part 1.

Nevertheless, I have never played such an ambitious and realistic looking game with so much care in worldbuilding, level design, details and subtle way of storytelling. It was a mature, horrifying, harsh, exciting and beautiful experience.

Part 1 was about finding the light and a reason to live. Part two was about seeking the darkness and a reason to kill. Both with hope towards the future. Both unique.

After completing part II, I thought about the game and how the story fits together for days and everything fell in its place. If you pay attention to the little details it will give you the closure you need with a lovely and pure ending.

    Pros:
    + World Building
    + Level Design
    + Details
    + Soundtrack
    + Sound design
    + Storytelling
    + Motion capture
    + Types of infected
    + Jumpscares
    + Weapon customization
+ Seamless transitions between cutscenes and gameplay
+ The different perspectives made me think twice about the things I did in the story
+ Closure if you pay attention to the details

    Cons:
    - Playtime with second main character felt too long at times and the story lost its pacing since I wished the story was build more around Ellie

This is the first game i give a personal rating of 100 / 100 points! Its perfect!

    *SPOILER*

i wonder how many people are homophobic. 50% of all people are not able to understand the thoughts of the characters. that shows how much the mind of our world has changed. Lots of homophobic, creativeless players who do not understand that such a harsh world as that of "the last of us" changes people. Ellie had such a tough life and always struggled, so it's no wonder she turned homosexual. Abby is very muscular for the same reason. Lev is "transgender" because he was frustrated because he didn't became a warrior in his clan.

While playing the game, I completely changed my mind about the characters and the factions. Each faction has its own reasons and none of these factions, except for the slave drivers, are really evil.
At first I hated Abby for what she did to Joel, but there was a moment i realized why Abby did this. Joel killed her lovely father and her friends. . .
The death of Joel hits me hard, but Its part of the tough world, this game shows us.

it's a shame that so many people don't appreciate a masterpiece like this!
your way of thinking is just childish and stupid!

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
