    an insult to the first game, horrible characters, a very slow start to a plot that is not up to the task and very repetitive to the point that you get bored, or at the heel of 1 the only thing you can say "how nice" are the graphics since gameplay is rough.

The accessibility features are great, and as someone who sometimes fumbles with controls, that they are the same as the previous game is an excellent move, as so many game series move them around.

    Downsides...
    Side characters are included in a way that suggests we're supposed to care about them because the protagonist cares about them.. but the relationships aren't earned, they aren't displayed in any meaningful way (Compare and contrast with Joel and his daughter, from The Last of Us) so they feel artificial. The rapport that is supposed to exist between any of them feels hollow. Why should I care about Eugene? Jesse? Dina? I don't know these characters, I haven't spent time with them, so I don't care.

    The clickers take a back seat. They're there, but surviving them isn't the main problem any more. They're just there to remind the player that this is the Last of Us, and there's a permanent threat, as well as a leg up when the story stalls.

    Character development feels non-existent. There's no redemptive arc, or any significant change other than an abrupt heel-face-turn at the end.

    The deuteragonist is not a character I want to play as; why anyone thought it would be interesting to play as the bad guy is entirely beyond me

    Last, but not least, the killing of a fan favourite character... destroyed the whole reason I wanted the game in the first place, turning the rest into a pointless slog, like forever reading a book from the perspective of the least favourite characters and never getting to the chapters containing the characters that are of actual interest.    … Expand

    This game has amazing graphics, great story telling, great acting, suspense and I always tell how good a game is when it gives me goosebumps and this game did it on several occasions. I have been honest and given it a 9 as the controls are pretty much exactly the same as before so a bit of variance would have been nice. The plot was pretty much You killed my dad so imma kill yours, yo you killed my dad so Imma kill you and your friends. Yo you killed my brother so imma kill you and your friends with my adoptive niece. It’s just a Revenge driven plot. I mean it’s hard to sympathize with A character who killed the person that literally made the first game and I think that’s where you lost everyone. Some deaths were pointless right towards the end it seems like you were just cutting people off for the hell of it. And that ending holy **** why did you do that to my girl Ellie. She made one of the hardest decisions in her life and she comes back to nothing that’s weird. Idk story seemed forced, gameplay was quick as hell, and Jesse died for no reason. Btw you guys tried so hard to make it dark.”She’s pregnant “ “That makes it even better” like tf does that even mean my guy? 1/10 in terms of story you tried. 10/10 in terms of gameplay.     -I expected this game to be about Ellie, it would have been disappointing if it wasn't. I'm not "triggered " because she's gay. I've been rockin' gay female Shepard since Mass Effect 1. Certain character deaths were kinda expected to move the story along (the hero arc formula).
    -It feels heavily padded out to introduce new characters that don't really seem to serve a purpose other than to kill time. I never came to identify or even like any of them. Forgettable comes to mind. Most of the character plots and arcs go nowhere leaving me just wondering "why were they even there?".
    -The game makes a point to make you feel bad. It ham-fists the "dichotomy of man" constantly. I felt like it was nagging me almost to the point were I almost quit playing.
    -Its dark and depressing. There's no sense of hope or optimism. The first game gave you a dark, surly, cynical main character that life took everything from, and over the story rebuilt him with a likable, sassy, lost child. This game says "Don't even bother trying to live. Life's just going to come and kick you in the d#$k anyway" style.
    -Some reviewers seem to want to give it a high score for what it tried to do, but other games have already done it and done it better.
    -If I were to some it up, its just a cheap, lazy, petty, revenge story with nice cut-scenes. Its been done better by those with less.    … Expand

    Seriously? One of the firsts AAA games that treats with some respect people that are not male and doesn't have heterosexual preferences, that has great graphics and that improves the first one when it comes to mechanics.

    The game has come out hours ago but strangely has thousands of negative reviews.

    The original "The Last of Us" was    What a complete and total waste of talent. The gameplay is stale and bland. The story is a disgrace, with legacy characters acting like complete idiots and sociopaths. Druckmann, you really didn't need to draw the paper-thin premise of "violence begets violence" out over 30 hours and fill it with torture and gore porn in order to make your point.

    The original "The Last of Us" was beloved because it delivered on many different fronts. It was a great character piece. It was atmospheric. Even if it was needlessly violent most of the time, at least it was a straightforward point-a-to-point-b story, with lush natural vistas and a real sense of loneliness and atmosphere. "TLOU" had themes and depth. It was about mankind discovering his humanity in the ruins of civilization. It was about bonding, communication, relationships, and hope.

    "TLOU Part II" is about little more than peddling brutal, transgressive content, and on top of that, advertising it in a misleading manner to the millions of fans of the original groundbreaking title. Neil Druckmann, you in particular should be sued for false advertising for the way you edited Joel into the trailers. The way you instructed gaming outlets to only review the first third or so of the game is an utter disgrace that only shows the incestuous nepotism inherent in this godforsaken industry. And to top it off, hitting content creators on the Internet with DMCA notices really put the cherry on top of your crap sundae.

    I feel disgusted by the way this all was handled. If Amy Hennig were in charge of this, this never would have happened, because she understands something called nuanced storytelling. Look it up, Neil Druckmann. You should never be given creative control of any video game ever again, and I hope that other AAA devs will think twice before hiring someone as tone-deaf to their audiences as Anita Sarkeesian to consult. I pity the developers who worked so hard on this game's beautiful graphics, animation, soundscapes, etc., all in service of the worst story I've seen in a modern video game. Shame on you, Druckmann.     Im embarrased for professional critics that give this game a 10/10. How can this game sit amongst the highest rated games of all time. Sure the graphics are great but the game play is repetitive and boring, it does little to innovate from the original. The story is utter garbage and leans on shock factor to mask the lack of engaging story telling. A real dissapointment.

    Graphs are fantastic. Game play feels more different than ever. Story? Depends on you to like where it goes or not. I would give an 8 but since these comments are ruined, ill give 10.

    This franchise had such potential but they had to pull a "start wars" and bring it to the ground.
    Realistically I would give the game a full 3 because the graphics are very good but then you see the characters and most of them just look weird. Literally, everybody is ugly as **** Plus what's up with roid-T-girl taking it up the wound/ass mid-game?

    The rest of it? Fantastic production values and technical merit. Not so good are the gameplay that is quite dated and only slightly improved from the first. Skill trees are linear and seem like an after thought. You can see the graphics and hear the sound etc for yourself so you'll know what to expect in those regards.

    So, the story. It fails. Druckmann is in love with his vision to the detriment of the story. He seemingly thinks, 'Look how unrelentingly violent and dark my game is, therefore it's mature and deep', but it just doesn't work.

    Almost all the characters are shallow and one-dimensional with naught to express but hate and spitefulness, always prepared to cruelly lash-out even when there's no apparent cause or reason, even when it would be in their interest to not do so. It feels like they are artificially hellbent on destruction just to accommodate Druckmann's obsession. It's totally implausible that you'd have such a long-line of malicious individuals all interacting with each others lives like this. It's all so contrived, as is the way the main character's lives keep weaving together.

    I kept watching their behaviour thinking, 'You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes'. I couldn't feel sorry for them, I couldn't feel anything terrible was happening - they pretty much all just reap what they sow and they only have themselves to blame in a way that, instead of making me engrossed, just made me view it impassively, like a far-removed bystander. They were too shallow to care about or believe.

    If you saw a bunch of bandits and criminals constantly getting into petty disputes and killing each other, would you really care?

    We've seen stories like this so many times and done by better writers. Many of the key scenes seem to have been simply plucked from various movies, games and shows (like a pick'n'mix) then simply shoved in without any skill. Sin City torture, Game of Thrones sex scene, Witcher 3 snowball fight, Walking Dead 'everyone's behaving like animals', basic TV show soap opera 'selfishness leading to neglected duties that lead to tragedy', etc, etc. All this stuff having been done before isn't the problem though, it's the paint-by-numbers delivery that's the problem.

    Not to mention the countless times the game talks down to the player (do they realise people 35+ might have been interested in this game?) by using the rote 'revenge breeds revenge' motif.

    The ending in particular is incredibly cliched and plays out in a completely unconvincing way; it's just bizarre and completely without motive. Is it just there to say, 'Haha! Not what you expected, eh?' Except I did expect it for reasons that are spoilery so I won't go into it. Honestly, it was so cliched that all that was missing was Ellie looking into a mirror to see her hatefilled face - before smashing it in rejection.

    Tarantino once said, 'Don't jerk off your audience for 2 hours and then have no money shot'. This game does it for 30 and leaves you unfulfilled.

    The original's themes of love and family were much less used in gaming and the motivations of the characters much more relatable, imho. A wasted opportunity and a game that I suspect will not be remembered particularly well once the dust has settled and the consensus declares all those ridiculous 10/10's to be nonsense. This will be a Mass Effect 3 type thing but with people's grievances being aimed at most of the story, rather than just the ending.

    I hope ND make sure there's more than one 'top dog' for their next game.

    To finish with, here's some bullets point musings.

    -Joel in the 1st game: 'Never trust strangers, never take unnecessary risks'.

    -Joel Part 2, 'Howdy pardners, my name's Joel, would you like to see our village?'.

    -Ellie Part 1: 'Gee, kids before the apocalypse had it so easy. I'd never take the gifts they had for granted. All I want is a family'.

    -Ellie Part 2: 'God, this village with food, water and security, full of friends, a woman I love and a strong community sucks ass! It's sooooo lame! My life has no meaning!'.

    Druckmann: 'Using all-new characters in the sequel would have been cowardly, Ellie and Joel's story needs to continue'. *proceeds to make a game only about Ellie and a stranger while also introducing a bunch of new characters*

    Druckmann: 'I want to make people feel things', creates a story using one of the most used themes of all time and adds nothing new. Gives the player no choice/consequence, thereby leaving them detached onlookers.    … Expand

This also means that not a single character trait held any significance to the story as a whole in the last of us 2: they are interchangeable. This is not saying they are not "unique", because they all have their own "trait", but the trait just don't present any plot significance at all.

    The gameplay is also aged badly: tossing a item to distract an enemy is the only true stealth mechanic with the exception of just literal x-ray vision should be only the chassis of the stealth mechanic: not the entirety of it. With games like metal gear solid and hitman, this makes the stealth mechanic in the last of us 2 seem so insignificant and limiting in comparison, and having enemies going in very linear patrol routes of one small area doesn't help at all, wasting the potential of the cosmetically gorgeous level design. The combat revolves around dodging, hitting, and shooting with brutal satisfaction: which wouldn't be so bad, even great, but the inclusion of a dodge button really ruined the experience, as some enemies would just get into superarmored mode/locked into animation and not stop attacking you until you are forced to either dodge or die.

    This lack of freedom also goes to the story telling elements as well: you play as not just Ellie, but also forced to play as Abby: a character that does some horrible things, and the player have no say in the matter and are just forced to go through with the decision made. The fact that this game forces its player base to play an unlikable character or forced to not progress makes this the worst game I've ever played.    … Expand

    I loved the 1st game, (owned it on both consoles) and I really enjoy this one too. Im a 35 year old avid gamer and I really don't understand what people are winky whining about. you should definitely pick this one up, the game play is amazing, the story is engaging and well written and I believe people enjoy being cynics far to much. Positives The game is gorgeous to look at, the graphics are seamless and impressive. The lighting and effect is something I’ve rarely seen in PS4 games. The soundtrack is amazing, how fluid it is from a shifting to a tense situation from a calm situation is perfect. The voice acting in this game is just as incredible as the first. The actors are spot on with their deliveries and emotions as they are conveyed. Difficulty - I played on normal and even then it posed a challenge. This game was not easy to breeze through but pose a definite a challenge as I ran through it. Gameplay - crafting, gunplay mechanics, stealth and fighting felt fluid and saw very little “stickiness”animator movement was really well done and small details are very noticeable especially in stealth mechanics in terms of how they move. Enemy - some of the enemies are nightmare fuel and it worth learning their backstories in how they are created. BAD The story in this game is horrendously put together, the plot holes, the character development and how the game forces you to accept certain development and how they present these developments are horrible and not well put together. The story though it set a sequence of events early on in the game for character development, it failed badly and in fact turn the game into a chore and it became emotionally draining to complete it. The choices certain characters make or what made them likable and relatable are entirely 180 from the first game. This was story was not put together well and it was disappointing to witness. AI - the AI in this game fell short of intelligent. I running past clickers was very easy to do (possibly due to my difficulty setting). Human enemies are the worst and very predictable which made them a boring encounter. I wanted more monster type enemies but their were more human battles than monster battles when compared to the first. This game definitely is not a successor to the first. I am sadden by the direction they chose for the story. I weigh single player games heavy on the story and because of how lacking the story was the score I gave is completely fair.… Expand

    The low ratings are really unfair, I but most haven’t even touched the game. I’m about 10 hours in right now and the story thusfar is amazing and so is the gameplay. But i’m of the opinion that we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover so a rating of someone whom has played an hour of the game isn’t really fair is it?

    - Abby, filha de um dos "vagalumes" mortos pelo Joel no jogo 1 é introduzida como uma das protagonistas do game.
    - Ellie descobre o que Joel fez para salvá-la e fica com raiva dele.
    - Uma garota chamada Dina, ex-namorada de um oriental chamado Jesse, se apaixona por Ellie e beija ela na frente do vilarejo inteiro.
    - Abby aparece e mata Joel igual à um porco usando um taco de golfe. Joel morre de forma humilhante, tendo sua cabeça arrebentada igual à uma melância podre, bem na frente de Ellie que chegou ao local para tentar salvá-lo.
    - Ellie então parte em busca de vingança e mata vários dos comparsas da Abby. Mas quando encontra ela, toma um pau junto com sua namorada. Jesse, ex da Dina morre, e Tommy (irmão do Joel) toma um tiro na cara, mas sobrevive.

    Parte 2

    - O Game para e agora mostra Abby, a mulher maromba como protagonista. Você descobre sobre tudo que ela viveu até ali, que era apaixonada por um cara que era casado com outra, que ela e seus amigos eram desertores do grupo WLF.
    - Abby é capturada pelos Seraphites (um grupo religioso extremista preconceituoso), mas foge de lá com duas minas japas, sendo que uma delas, pensa que é homem (é trans).
    - Abby então descobre que Ellie estava matando seus amigos e parte em busca dela, acha a Ellie e aí mata o Jesse, atira no Tommy e dá um pau na Ellie e na Dina (igual eu disse antes ali em cima). Mas não mata elas, pois a oriental trans lá, pede pra ela não fazer isso.
    - Depois disso, Abby recebe um convite para se mudar para uma nova base dos Vagalumes, mas ela e seu(sua) amigo(a) oriental são capturadas por um grupo de caras que caçam pessoas e fazem elas de escravos.

    Parte 3

    - O jogo então corta e mostra Ellie e Dina vivendo numa fazendo e criando o filho que Dina teve com Jesse, como uma espécie de broken back mountain feminino. - Ellie ainda está perturbada e com vontade de matar a Abby.
    - Depois de uma visita de Tommy, Ellie resolve ir de atrás de sua vingança. Dina diz que se Ellie for, ela terminará com ela e não estará mais ali quando Ellie voltar.
    - Ellie vai mesmo assim, invade o acampamento dos "escravizadores", mata mais uma pá de gente até que acha Abby, que agora tava toda judiada, magra e sem músculos.
    - Ellie ajuda os escravos a escapar, mas desafia Abby para uma luta, ameaçando matar o(a) amigo(a) oriental da Abby.
    - Abby aceita e as duas saem no soco. Dessa vez Ellie vence e começa a afogar Abby no mar, porém, Abby arranca dois dedos de Ellie com uma mordida. Ellie não desiste e continua enforcando ela, até que, do nada lembra do Joel, e libera Abby, perdoando-a e deixando-a fugir com seu(sua) amigo(a).

    The game is a masterpice with heart and soul. Thanks the Naughty Dog team for this incredible emotional journey and unique gaming experience. I want everybody to play Last of Us II as far as it deserves better than inadequate negative reaction of toxic communities. Splendid! 10/10

    The game we all loved, the game that made us wonder, explore the beautifully crafted relationship between Joel and Ellie in the first game.. ruined by this undeserving sequel. Many movies and entertainment products rarely ever exceed the prequel but this one completely demolished all built bonds and completely disrespects the characters like they meant nothing. Shame on Naughty Dog

    I am 3 hours in and the game is the most detailed, most cinematic game experience that I've ever seen, just alone for that it is a game that is significantly better than average.
    Gameplay-wise I agree this is more of a refinement of the gameplay mechanics established in part 1, but that I like that and it is definitely an improvement.

Druckmanns self insert character proceeds to spit on Joel's corpse much like he is spitting on the fan base. No sane fan of the first game will ever like this garbage. Naughty Dog and Druckmann have betrayed all of us. This is a revenge game WITHOUT REVENGE. That's right folks. At the end of it all Ellie has NOTHING and nobody left and decides to just let Abby go, after getting her fingers bitten off of course.     Epic game from start to finish!! Graphics are a 10 game play is a 10 & the storyline well i will rate it an 8..has a few flaws but over all solid....TLOU2 is game of the year for sure, one of the best looking games if not the best looking game ever on the PS4.

    This isn't about LGBT characters or politics. I'm trans. This is about the game **** on Joel and Ellie and the plot making no sense. The game focuses on surprising audiences, and in doing so has the characters make terrible decisions. There is no respect for beloved characters or good storytelling

The travel was so beautiful the story of ellie was meh but not bad , the thing that i didnt like was the story of abby because it just full the game and didnt put nothing in the history i just play like abby because it was the unique form that she can die. Otherwise the game is great with beautiful landscapes and good gameplay. P.S : Joel need a better death… Expand

Personally i never played a last of us game and i just watched some gameplay on YouTube.And i think that the first game was pure fire.This one is just pure trash.Story is awful.Ellie literally goes doom slayer mode on everyone she sees and right at the end she spares Abby, the one who killed Joel.I dont know about you but if i was Ellie i would've totally went berserk mode on her.New characters are just meh.

    They traded their great story of part 1 to "advertise" and "support" some stupid thoughts to make them people feel "less stupid", beside almost same gameplay and trash story, trash conversations ingame

    First off, you know that loyal dog, right? Everyone has either heard of it, or has one. That's a damn loyal dog, We all love that dog, he's in this...so wait for it at the end.

    Let's get back to that dog in a bit, but for now, let's sum up everything you need to know about this game without writing a book.

    Legit kill off your best friend. You know, like let's just have him/her/it/binary whatever die. That's solid.
    Let's make it sad, stupid sad, but make sure it has no point....no point at all, let's just focus on anger, not legitimate reason or emotion.
    Fast forward, omg...Robert De Niro is in this....wait is he? Nope, It's Nancy Pelosi in reverse drag.
    Turns out she's your dad.
    It's all good...go have some gay sex. it'll make it all better.

    Fast forward, oh it's over. Wait what was I fighting for? I can't remember...but it's solid..hella solid.
    Wait it's not over.
    Turns out in the end, Nancy is your real dad, she had a sex change, and secretly was the bad guy at the same time, but it's ok....because the loyal dog at the end comes and destroys her....but then eats you and destroys you...just like he destroyed our hopes and dreams.

    I know...there's a few plot holes, and maybe everything wasn't accurate or in line with the story of the first game, but if you really pay attention to my review, it all makes sense and the critics will agree... 10/10 would play again.

    Where's Nathan Drake? 9/10 didn't make sense, i thought he'd be in it by the end the way things were going.

    +1 for graphics and the effort the ops/engi's put into this game and put up with bull ****    … Expand
