    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was up there as one of my most anticipated games but has ended up being totally disappointing. Although the graphics are visually stunning, the game itself has been a massive let down due to a number of factors. The biggest factor is simply the awful story, it is riddled with plot holes, ridiculous decision making that is totally unbelievable by the characters and returning characters personalities being butchered to the point where they are almost polar opposites to how the were in the previous game. The game has no one that you can root for, everything has been made to be utterly bleak and seems pointless which when partnered with the long l of the game left me bored and uninterested, without the motivation to carry on. The gameplay also lacked many significant improvements from the first game too. Jumping and crawling were pushed as the new game changing mechanics that would completely change how the game would play and how you would interact with the world yet to found myself rarely ever using them. The enemies AI was also terrible, half the time you could walk straight past them and skip portions of the game as they would not react if you were right in front of them. This made it seem pointless wasting time with fights which left me even more bored with the game, as I had no incentive to keep trying to find new ways to tackle situations to get the enemies, when I could simply run past them and leave the area without spending too much time. Most disappointing of all was the first being, spending the entire game selling revenge to have your easiest opportunity thrown away to try give off the reasoning of revenge being bad was like a slap in the face. Wasting all that time to get there for nothing, although Abby gets away having successfully gotten away with killing Joel and succeeding with her revenge arc. It links in to the character choices being totally ridiculous as well, Joel was a shoot first kind of person who always assumed others were out to get him so seeing a brief flashback of him playing a guitar would not sway Ellie as she knew what he was like. The game although nice to look at, was horrible to play and will go down as one of my biggest gaming disappointments… Expand

They've ruined all of those loveable characters from the first game and force us to play the role of a sadistic trans for 10 **** hours. Hope they don't make a third one.     This game couldn't be more disappointing. Who thought that what happens to Joel is a good idea? Those of us who love the first game do not want the protagonists to be treated like trash.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this game has a terrible story. it ruined the franchise. the characters don't act like themselves only for the sake of the poorly written plot. it's a horrible disappointment compared to the first game, which was probably one of the best games i've ever played in my life. the gameplay is fine, i just personally don't like the dodging mechanism. other than that the exploring is pretty fun, i'll give it that.
    the graphics are beautiful too, very nice attention to detail.
    the only problem is the story. (spoiler alert)
    the way they kill off Joel is just horrible. Joel would never trust a group of strangers. for example, in the first game, while he's driving in Pittsburgh with Ellie and spots a man screaming for help, claiming he is hurt. Joel obviously didn't trust him and attempted to hit him with the car. but in the new game, he decides to trust Abby without a doubt. this isn't what Joel would've really done. Ellie doesn't actually feel like herself too in this game. she seems more sad and she's a little rude. she's also unmotivated unlike in the first game, she did whatever she could to make it to the Fireflies. but of course, this is for the plot i assume.
    The Last of Us was the story of Joel and Ellie bonding. now Part II is just a crappy revenge story and they decide to kill off the main character. what a disappointment.    … Expand

    Good visuals, my favourite thing about the entire game was the melee animations. Worst storyline I have ever seen, also it's clear throughout the game that the developers were just trying to force an LGBTQ+/SJW agenda and it made it a lot worse because of that.

    Killing a lead character in early start of the game in a way that is so cold and unneeded. You could just make his death a little more important than that, giving all the things he have been through.

    Is making a character like ABBY even her name is obnoxious!!! Body builder figure for a female character, for what reason? And to make her the killer of a main character added oil to the fire.
    You destroyed this game i wish I didn’t buy nor play it so the timeline could have stopped with the first part for me.

    I truly hoped for a great follow up to the first and went into it with an open mind only to walk away asking...really? That was it? The graphics were good but not all that. The story had more plot holes and disconnects than POE’s servers. The controls were meh. And as is the case with most games today, it was short.

    Sure, they kind of warned everybody that it was going to be different, but any truly honest critic could tell they were either desperately reaching just to get a title released, or this was nothing more than a weak excuse to justify mindless killing rather than a carefully thought out game with a worth while plot. In a nutshell it is kill. Kill some more. And maybe collect a little loot along the way. I can think of much better, more worthwhile violent kill and loot fest games and they’re free!    … Expand

    Gave it a 3 just for the gameplay. The reason TLOU part one is among the best video games ever made was the connection and attachment towards the characters, the emotional journey that leads to the enjoyment and bittersweet ending of it. While in Part two.. well, I don't even know what to say. Damn you naughty dog, and damn you Neil.

    Gameplay is solid and story is strong as usual. In reality I’d probably call it an 8 or 9, not as good as the first, but since it’s getting reviewbombed ill keep it at 10.

    Basically a trailer with some gameplay sprinkled in. Enough with the cutscenes and let me play! Also, what is it with the PS3 graphics? Definitely not worth $60. The story is also very depressing. I've never played any Last of Us and this was just a bad first experience.

    "Is this really happening right now?" is something I constantly kept thinking...in a bad way. The only reason Joel and Ellie are in this game is to trick you into caring about this completely one note standard revenge plot. A single point for being technically impressive.

The first and original The Last of Us game was a beautifully built, written, and outstanding game with amazing graphics and I expected no less from Part 2. When I played The Last of Us Part II, the graphics were outstanding and the voice actors certainly did their part on that and delivered that beautifully. However, the rest of the game seemed like something that came out of a 2015 watt pad fan-fiction. As I read from other reviews, if you are a fan of the franchise and liked the first game, do not play this game, if you are just looking for a (story-type) shooter zombie game with killer graphics, then this is the perfect game for you.… Expand

But the SJW LGTBQ aspect of the game is perfectly fine. There is no issue there. The story is god awful. After so many years of waiting they bring out a washed out revenge story were Elie, after going on a murderous rampage to avenge Joel, simply decides is not worth it. The gameplay elements are almost basically the same and even thought the graphics are stunning it does not save the player from the disapoinment of the bad writing. Such a shame. Not recommended to buy for 60 USD, wait for a sale.… Expand

    For a game that relies so heavily on its story this is very disappointing. Unbelievable story arcs and hours of nonsense filler content. I will say however the art and design teams have really done a wonderful job given the PlayStation's limited hardware.

The graphics are incredible, the gameplay although similar to the first game is improved. The attention to detail both in the world, the characters and the story, alongside the acting of the main characters really makes it feel like your playing a movie.     Absolutely beautiful graphics. There I said the only positive thing about this pile of trash. Ruined by the greatest story of all time with a great ending you should have left this story alone instead of push a mindless empty plotline in order to push your own agenda I feel sorry for all fellow gamers who paid for this. Please save your money and go buy ANYTHING else.

What in the world have you done. the year is late 2020 where possibilities are endless, and Naughty Dog releases a game that is so linear and boring that the only people who thought it was brilliant are the brain dead Journalist. The game looks ok not breathtaking or cutting edge, almost the same quality as Days Gone. I don't care one bit about someones sexual preferences, but this game honestly puts you in a cuckold and makes you live it. everything from the killing of a beloved character, to the weird sex scene that made me gag. the writing is that of an under developed child, the story is one of how revenge is bad, but it looses its focus, it was either that or my give a crapper broke the second I was forced to do an activity I did not want to do. Naughty Dog, Journalist, and you Neil are to blame for this waste of energy. I gave it a two because it is obvious the Dev's made a serious attempt but please from now on stand up to them and do not allow this hot garbage to be put into society.… Expand

Killing Joel was a bad move, then Ellie goes and kills a bunch of WLF, Jesse dies, then when you’re about to kill Abby, you let her go! What type of **** is that? The story is super sloppy and messy. I have no hate towards Ellie’s new relationship with Dina, in fact I think that is one of the bright spots of this game. I don’t like how Naughty Dog is forcing Abby on us. She kills Joel early in the game but than we are supposed to sympathize with her. Nothing bad ever happens to her, meanwhile all this terrible **** is happening to Ellie. Heard rumors about a potential 3rd game. Hopefully Abby gets what she deserves. I really think a sequel wasn’t necessary. The first game was amazing and this sequel doesn’t come close to its greatness. I just feel so disappointed.… Expand

    An excessively violent love story with a conclusion that will be unsatisfying to all but the most dimwitted, making a mockery of everything good the first game had to offer.

I was so exited for this game and all that just got ruined literally 2 hours in.I bought a ps3 for the sole purpose of playing the first game back in 2013 and it was well worth it.I just genuinely do not understand what the the writers of this game where thinking when they wrote this new story.In terms of the technical side this game is a 10/10,But the story is just filled with so many plot holes and unlikeable characters I had absolutely no motivation to finish the game but I made myself in case it atleast had a half decent ending but nope that’s just the cherry on top of this horrible mess of a story.If your a fan of the first Game pick it up when it goes on sale if you want to experience it for yourself but most people payed $60 dollars just to be disappointed.… Expand

Without a reason to leave Jackson, there is no story for Ellie. Nothing short of what happened to Joel is would have made Ellie leave Jackson. I'm not surprised people are being idiots about judging the story and some of the choices the devs made. People can't handle true tragedy and difficult experiences happening in their video games. They want fun, action, happy endings, etc. I'm sorry, but in this post apocalyptic world, this stuff is going to happen. I commend... I absolutely ADORE...     - Depois de uma visita de Tommy, Ellie resolve ir de atrás de sua vingança. Dina diz que se Ellie for, ela terminará com ela e não estará mais ali quando Ellie voltar.
    - Ellie vai mesmo assim, invade o acampamento dos "escravizadores", mata mais uma pá de gente até que acha Abby, que agora tava toda judiada, magra e sem músculos.
    - Ellie ajuda os escravos a escapar, mas desafia Abby para uma luta, ameaçando matar o(a) amigo(a) oriental da Abby.

    But graphics, decent gameplay, and nice music alone can't justify a score of between 95-100 for a game that is driven almost wholly by its story, which makes me question the veracity of the score given to this game by "professional critics."

    As a game developer who specializes in story writing... let me just say that TLOU2 is an insult to video game writers and story games in general. The story of The Last Of Us Part 2 is centered around both tragedy and revenge... with very little else to justify the direction or make it feel like a worthwhile journey.

    Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that beloved characters should not experience such a gruesome fate unless there's a valid reason or justification... otherwise "shock factor" veers into "edge factor" and becomes a meaningless trope. This is a shocking contrast to TLOU Part 1, when the characters were multifaceted, nuanced, and driven by a deep sense of purpose.

    One can only wonder if the writers of this game grew to resent their very own characters... as they all seem to have grown short sighted, one dimensional, and soulless. This leads to a boring, depressing journey filled with an overtly dark narrative, bad thrills, and using "shock factor" as a cheap replacement for deep story. Sure, play The Last Of Us 2... if you want to be depressed... or if perhaps you don't care about story in a story-driven game and you're just in it for the gameplay. As I said, overall it's not a bad game... but it's a very bad story, and considering this is a *story game,* I can't justify a rating higher than 2 / 10.

And I for one am sick and tired of having preachy devs trying to force this woke nonsense down our throats. We need to start standing up to these and give them a clear massage, WE'VE HAD ENOUGH! This is a game about survival in a post apocalyptic universe, honestly not a great place to push any agendas!! So much effort put into a game but the story, the story, just can't get over how bad it is . Cannot finish this game.

Joel é morto pela filha de um NPC do primeiro jogo de forma horrível, numa emboscada que o Joel do primeiro jogo jamais teria caido. Ellie chega e presencia tudo, jura vingança contra a Abby, e começa a sua jornada, matando varias pessoas, incluindo cachorros para chegar até Abby, mas no final, Ellie decide poupar a vida dessa criatura, chegando a conclusao de que vinganca nao leva a nada.
    A historia desse jogo nao passa de uma fanfic mal escrita, mal feita, com muito dramalhao Mexicano.
    O jogo nao te da a escolha de matar a assassina do seu pai, mas te forca a jogar com a assassina por mais de 3 horas num gameplay chato, cansativo e bastante desnecessario.

After surpassing the part where an important character meets his end, I was confused. I didn’t have a problem with him dying but I had a problem with how he died. It seems like he didn’t matter and his death served no real purpose to the game. I still don’t understand the overall theme, I heard it’s about letting go of revenge. That doesn’t make sense.... It’s a weak plot. In a world overrun by a deadly virus and tribalism, revenge is more of a motivation than a burden. If anything if revenge was something I wanted...The ending is incredibly underwhelming and makes me feel the hours I spent on it wasn’t worth it. I don’t care if a game has amazing graphics and great mechanics. If the story is terribly written then it’s not worth playing. This game isn’t even playable the first time, I had to force myself. You can’t play this game more than once. I will be returning my copy right now actually. This is the last time I buy a Naughty Dog game. As a huge fan of the Last Of Us part 1, I bought the game on ps3 and ps4. Played them multiple times and played the online portion. Although, the game was always great because of its good story telling. Waiting 7 years and I’m dissatisfied and disappointed. Who is making these decisions? Don’t they have writers at Naughty Dog? If they had 7 years, that was more than enough time to polish a game, there’s no excuse. To start off on a good note the graphics are amazing but that was to be expected, the music is great but again expected from a great company like naughty dog and the gameplay was improved but still felt as if you were playing the original like many others my biggest problem was the story II have played on my friend's account and I personally did not enjoy my experience neither did he. I had very high expectations for this game coming in and it did not meet them whatsoever very disappointed I personally will not download it on my PlayStation even though I did buy it. As soon as my friend's got a few achievement he plans on deleting it himself.… Expand

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
