    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are many things this game made terrible wrong, and most of them just ignored character development of the first game and tried to create a new narrative that made all fans hate this game.

    1) The way Joel dies before solving all issue with Ellie is the start point of this campaign. The relationship between these 2 is broken because the Lie in the end of the first game. And the game ends without a satisfactory conclusion on that regard.

    2) The game introduces a new playable characters, Abbie, and tries hard to make us like her, but in the beginning she is the one that kills Joel in front of Ellie and many others dear to Ellie along the game, which makes her the object of vengeance that Ellie is hunting the entire game.

    3) After everything that she lost and every trouble to find Abbie, Ellie ends in a nonsense fight with her which ends up with Ellie letting her go because she remembered Joel... The guy that singled handled killed everyone just for her sake...

    And that is it, you play a long game with many unsatisfactory developments, only to end up unsatisfied to the very end.

    The graphics are great, animations are awesome, and the music don't lose to the first game, but the story is so unsatisfactory that everything else don't matter.    … Expand

I really REALLY wanted to like this game, im pro LGBT, pro feminism and all that stuff, i really wanted to like this game, i gave it some hours thinking maybe isn't that bad, maybe it will have a good plot at the end, maybe the game is boring but will get better, i was wrong, this game is one of the worst disappointments i ever had. i can't even think how a huge development like this could be this bad.… Expand

    This is a great sequel and worthy of your time,from gameplay to story and everything in between .Lots of negative reviews posted within 5 or 6 hours yet it’s a 20 to 30 hour game ,so obviously trolls and haters on here .Solid 10/10 from me.

    Beautiful game with a huge gameplay and high graphics. But this story totally killed the game before.
    Its not only gameplay and graphics that make a great game, its how you involve the player emotionally with the character and the story.
    This is frustrating.

    You have taken what has made the first game so great; good story and characters that you can become invested in, and totally removed it.

    Now you make the returning characters dull, uninspiring and introduce us to new characters that we hate to play, force us to play them and do your best to remove any emotional attachment to the main characters in the first game.

    I will give you credit however, you did get an emotional response from gamers, for me it was pretty much all negative, you have ruined this series for myself and many other gamers.

    The real world already has enough bad crap in it, I play games to escape some of that and have fun, you have taken that away from me in this game. This game can have the best graphics and gameplay on the ps4, but without a good story and characters, its not a good game.

    That’s sums it up, Naughty Dog has just “Jumped the Shark” with this game.    … Expand

Im happy to see technology improvement help artist paint the more realistic world than ever before. The maps are bigger that the last game and it feel like you have more option to explore. But there isnt any major myth for you to find out like Tomb Raider and the progression fell pretty linear. There are a bunch of accessible options in which some make the game completely turn into a walking simulator. I suggest you should check those first when started playing. AI are just like before, not really bright. They wont make you fell threatened. Cut scene are way too many sometime i feel like im watching a movie. I can say over all its a so-so, its what i expected when buying the game nothing out of the ordinary.

    The story is not what i expected. The theme and direction are completely opposite first game. Turning a new leaf but not in a good way. The first game show us there are beauty in everything, acceptance of losing your loved one and natural way of healing past drama. While this game is about vengeance and hatred. The game force us to feel and understand the felling of the new character while we doesn't have any deep emotional connection except rage and confused toward them. Like you are forced to spend a day with your high-school bully while having constantly being a dick to your best friend. That doesn't feel nature enough to make me feel bad for him because his mother mistreat him as a kid. And then on the final decision you couldn't make it yourself and force to watch another cut-scene again. I think cheap 1$ visual novel have more option to choose than this game.    … Expand

    I cant believe i payed full price for this, the first game was amazing but this is a complete failure.
    This has to be the wokest agenda based game ive ever seen and makes me concerned for games in the future.
    Naughty dog games would usually be a day 1 buy for me but now i will think twice, bitterly disappointed.

Можно мериться с "повесточкой", и закрывать глаза на беременных женщин в патрулях, но вот как можно мириться с историей которая ничего в себе не несёт? Я продолжу верить, что если будет третья часть, Дракмана заменят на кого то более компетентного, либо же его самого загонят в рамки, что бы он сделал так как нужно. I can understand killing Joel but why do they make you play as Abby for half of the game? It isn't a bad story by itself it just doesn't make sense if you have played the first game. It honestly makes no sense to allow Ellie and Tommy to live when they know exactly who killed Joel. Literally everything after this point should be considered fantasy because if I was Abby I would have killed both Tommy and Ellie after killing Joel and thus left no witnesses to what occurred.

    This is some of the most god awful fanfic garbage. I didn’t particularly care for the ending of the first game but it was clear they wanted to do some sort of generational thing with Ellie becoming the new playable character in the second game especially when you take into account the DLC of the first game pushing that agenda.

    The start of 2 was solid up until Joel’s death. The game was over at that point. They honestly should have made this a game fleshing out Ellie’s growing up and attempting to come to terms with what Joel did in the first game, the ending would be when Abby kills not just Joel but also Ellie and Tommy. You shouldn’t even know who killed him to be honest.

    Then as a dlc or as a pre-sequel game they could then explore Abbey’s story starting immediately following the end of part 1 and leading up to killing Joel. The player wouldn’t know what is going on until the moment of truth when she kills Joel, Tommy and Ellie.

    There were any number of ways to handle this and ND chose one of the worst ones. “Critics” are saying users are review bombing the game but lets be real here, we didn’t get the game for free, we don’t receive review copies of games and WE SURE AS **** DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING BLACK BALLED BY TRASH COMPANIES MAD ABOUT A REVIEW WORSE THAN A 7.5.

    ANY CRITIC THAT GAVE THIS GAME HIGHER THAN A 6 IS EITHER A SELLOUT OR SMOKING CRACK!    … Expand

    My logic is this : You gave 'The last of us 1' a 10 too, so you should be able to tell the difference between a great story with great narration and character arc, since you liked that 1st game so much. But you fail in this simple task, You saw no flaw. I repeat. You saw and played a PERFECT game.

    *Spoilers ahead*
    This game has no 'heart'. The story is weak and character choices are at least dumb and careless. There is no essential 'journey' here, only Jumpcuts years later. And this happens 3-4 times throughout the game. 4 years ehave passed, some years have passed, etc. This is poor writing in my opinion. There is no respect to the characters (bad or good), they all seem to be driven by anger but the game fails to communicate that anger. It just puts the player (which let's face it, we are not the player but rather a mechanism to progress the inevitable story, since you cannot alter any of the facts) to a dark place. A place where they want to put the controller down. If that's what they where going for, well, they did it.

    And then there is all this weird stuff planted in a videogame like, smoking weed, lesbian sex, transgender like characters nailed from behind by a director lookalike, a rather inappropriate way of killing essential characters from the 1st game's cover being spit on by a game director lookalike, poor dialogue, and it seems that WOMEN are the only essential part of this game. Furthermore, there are these silly fights in which Ellie or Abby seem to overcome with no broken arms or legs or anything really rather than some bruises, yet Joel doesn't even lifts his hands up when he is about to take a hit from Tiger Woods. It's just the directors way of giving us the middle finger. It's like he was angry at US or he is in such a miserable dark place of his own that thinks THIS can cause feelings to the player other than anger. Well, it can't.
    Then we have this angry looking face on the cover that screams revenge, yet no revenge ever occurs. And spare me with this 'she realised that killing her won't bring back joel'. She knew she couldn't make Joel come back right from the start. She just wanted revenge. Well, too bad she wasn't the director's favorite transgender.
    The way men die in this game (essential characters like Jesse , Joel and everything that starts with J probably) is just stupid. Tommy gets shot in the head and lives? In what universe a trauma like that heals in a post apocalyptic world? This is just POOR writing. And he talks too? like no nerves harmed? just a flesh wound? just to progress this hideous story?

    Sure, it's visually pleasant and rather smooth looking game, althgough the camera needed some work and some animation (like the dogs sliding turning animation in the city) needed extra love, the sound quality is excellent but there are sound effects like jumping that could be spared. Level design is great but the set pieces of the enemies needed work because normal people do not have this behavior in real world, like walking up and down in a corridor when they have a lookout right outside. Stealth is a joke since the outcome is probably every time the same.

    Gore. It's a gore galore. Gore right until the very end, where Anakin, sorry Ellie realizes that she can't lose any more fingers. And Abby needs to take the part of Joel for The Last of Us 3, where now a strong independent woman teaches that boy how things work.

    And you know the worst part? It's going to win Best game of the year award because all of these critics that FAILED to do the simple task of rating a game with so many flaws. They saw no flaw. I repeat. They saw and played a PERFECT game.    … Expand

    The Last of Us 2 is a breathtakingly stunning game in terms of its visuals and the environment, as well as refined gameplay mechanics and improved enemy AI. However, its story is flawed, and goes no where near the heights of the first game.

    The gameplay leading up to Joel’s death is completely out of line with his character, as he seems to have absolutely no suspicion of Abby having her group of friends in a place where Joel has patrolled before. Joel and Tommy have survived this post-apocalyptic world for 25 years and have seen and been through a lot, yet willingly give away their names and where they reside. It’s simply does not make sense, especially given the fact that Joel was super cautious around strangers in TLOU1, even if they had kids like Henry and Sam. Although some people may feel that his death is justified given what he has done and the current state of the world, and also gives a good reason for Ellie to go on her quest for vengeance, the later part of the story simply does not justify the decision to kill Joel so early in the game

    When Ellie finally gets her chance to kill Abby and seek revenge for Joel’s brutal death, albeit some time later, she is stopped by a vision of Joel playing the guitar, and in the end suddenly stops drowning Abby and just tells her to leave. This ending does not convey any message, and has absolutely zero meaning to the themes of hate and vengeance they were trying to put across. Sure, Ellie kills hundreds of people to finally lay her hands on Abby, but not killing her and instead just letting her leave whilst losing 2 fingers for absolutely nothing. The ending just makes one feel empty inside, with absolutely zero emotion. Abby is also a very poorly written character, with her backstory thrown in after killing Joel. It does not make the player playing sympathise with her, as we have no emotional attachment to her, unlike our beloved Joel and Ellie in the first game. What made the first game special was the growing bond between the two characters, and this father-daughter relationship paved the way for a phenomenal first game. Sadly, the sequel just aims to make what Joel did saving Ellie seem wrong, and paints Joel and Ellie more like antagonists, while trying to justify Abby’s actions

    Overall, it goes no where near the heights of TLOU1 with its poor story writing, and it’s probably one of the worst sequels of all time.    … Expand

The game is incredibly smooth and the development team did a great job with combat but the design choice to have you not only kill off Joel in the first 2 hours of the game but then continue to play as the killer is infuriating. The nicest thing I can say about the story is that the writing team either incompetent or too full of yes men to deserve to handle a property with as big of a fan base as The Last Of Us. Naughty Dog you should consider reevaluating how you handle your games going forward because at this current rate you won’t have a fan base left to support you.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I were to review it only based on what I did NOT like, I would give it a straight zero (like many of the other fellow reviewers here). However, let me begin by praising what I liked about this game:

    Pros:
    - Graphics: Definitely better than any other game I have played on the PS4 (1080p)
    - Sound: Helps you in the gameplay if you use sophisticated headphones
    - Environment: I liked the way it balances linear and open-world gameplay.
    - Added Features: Wow, I am amazed at how TLOU2 has pushed the limits of the PS4. Accessibility features are top of the line, and I am sure this would inspire games in the future.

    Cons:
    - STORY + plot holes: more on this below
    - Repetitive Gameplay: I feel the gameplay has been very similar to the older one. The ability to jump and crouch isn't significantly different, given combat and shooting have barely changed.

    More on the story:
    God, this kills it for me. Who approved this storyline? If you kill off a character that you have spent so much time to build, why not give them a proper send-off. Remember Arthur Morgan from RDR2 or Rost from Horizon Zero Dawn? I understand the circumstances needed to kill off Joel, but why did you have to do it like a street dog?

    The current storytelling does not make sense. Many argue that killing off Joel was realistic, but I beg to differ. This is the person who could smell an ambush from a mile away. Tommy is shown in the game to be highly capable himself (remember how he kills Manny). How did they simply walk into a group of unknown people?

    I would still have supported the decision to make Abby a playable character if you weren't forcing us to switch between Ellie and Abby so much. This simply makes the player confused. What is the point if I want to simply throw away the controller as Abby? I somehow didn't feel like gathering inventory when playing as Abby.

    Naughty Dog seems to have killed the franchise for me.    … Expand

Most of the access media have knelt down for their corporate overlords by giving this a game a 10/10. If they can shill out and influence the sales of TLOU2 by giving it a ten, then us logical, rational and level headed customers are well within our rights to give it a 0. The only people "review bombing" this game are the ones that are supposed to have the interest of the common man at hand.

    Neil Druckmann and Anita Sarkeesian have ruined TLOU2. The story is awful and a chore to finish. Gone are the days of writing moving and inspiring stories.     Но так как я лицемерная мразь, как и все игровое сообщество, то выскажу свое мнение которое сложилось по впечатлениям от летсплеев, стримов и первых 15 часов собственной игры.

    Графен - 9/10: не шедевр , но каждая сцена достойна шума плойки
    Сюжет - 10/10: я обажаю кровавые роад муви , при чем с жаждой мести и насилием, которое адекватно обосновано (это кстати кор игры и в него не пробралось СЖВ)
    Геймплей - 8/10: я ждал прорыва, но получил отшлифованый The Last of Us 1 , чем от части доволен
    Персонажи - 7/10 : ни один фильм , ни одна игра еще не расскрывались всех персонажей , которых ввели. Вы понимаете мотивацию, почему они стали такими и как они пришли к своей жизни. Даже если он гей, то это пояснено так, что ЛГБТ+ сообществу это не понравится и это прекрасно. Элли мой личный фаворит - такие эмоции могут появится у девочки, только если она росла в постап-се.
    Технологичность - 5/10: мы ограничены поколением , по-этому новых вещей вы не увидите , все было в других игра от собак либо же в недавней рдр2.

    Итог - 10, сделаю вид, что я не знаю математику как прочие люди, но я поставлю 10 , чтоб поднять рейтинг игры этого года. Геймеры - лицемеры, и эта игра доказывает это. Все ставят нули, но 500к+ зрителей на твиче, что с вами не так?
    Игру я перепройду как минимум раз и желаю всем пекарям, чтоб игры следующего поколения у них не запускались.    … Expand

    I am a huge fans of TLOU 1 and had a deep positive image of Ellie. But this episode really makes me disgusted. Inserting Abby as a new character destroyed the whole series. Ending was also confusing.

    'The Last of Us Part II' is a story-driven survival game, and if the plot is this terrible, I think it would have been better for Naughty Dog to scrap the whole thing. To kill off one of Play Station's most iconic and beloved characters in Act One, just for his death to ultimately mean nothing teaches the audience absolutely nothing. On top of that, attempting to teach gamers the lessons that "violence is bad" and "trans-phobia and homo-phobia are bad" is rich. Druckmann deserves to be fired, and Naughty Dog needs to formally apologize. This game was, without any exaggeration, a AAA failure.    … Expand

Honestly I prayed that the leaks were fake.I said “there’s no way something this absurd sounding would make its way into one of the most anticipated video game releases of 2020” ,and yet the leaks were true blow for blow form Joel’s head being caved in to the disturbing sex scene. Joel's death was terrible. He should have died saving Ellie one more time. Worst yet his death makes you feel like no character's safe but by the end, they literally won't kill any main character. It makes no sense that Abby wouldn't kill Ellie after she was done bashing Dina's skull in. It's not like Ellie was pregnant so there was no reason to spare her by Lev's sympathy and Ellie was the one who killed her friends in the first place. Equally, it makes no sense that Ellie spares Abby at the beach. She left her girlfriend/baby and traveled across the country for nothing. I don't know how anyone can give this cesspool a 10/10.… Expand

I love part 1 and would like to have loved part II but I can't. The ending was ok because I care Abby and after I finish the game I like her. One of the problem was Ellie and Dina's baby which sounds like fanfick. Gameplay and how the world building amazing and technival sub-area was amazing. If the end had invested city it could be better because it would have see and look more like The Last of Us. Now it feels detached in terms of the whole. I'm fine with the ending but I'm not fine how long game was and how the videogame mission's where build. It felt bad for Abby and i didn't like it. Best part of the game was Jackson things and Dina.     This game has poor, contrived writing that is trying to prove a point. It is forced and unconvincing. In addition, you have gameplay from 2013 and NPCs that speed up and slow down like GTAV in 2013.
