    I believe the truth about this game lies in the middle ground between paid critics and the user score. First of all, this game is an absolute gem and state-of-the-art in terms of technology. There is absolutely no way that, even if you hated the story, this game is a 0/10 or something of the likes. At the same time there is no way you could give this game more than 8/10 on a basis of game-design.

    The gameplay is almost identical to the first part and it can hardly be called an "action game" let alone video game. The first part got away with it, because the story is simply so brilliant and captivating. TLOU2, however, exposes the weaknesses this series always had, due to its poor storyline.

    The drastic changes from the first part seem not only out of proportion, but also unrealistic. Luxuries like transgenderism would never exist in an apocalypse setting. Apart from being focused on biological survival of the humans, there isnt even a society to define traditional gender roles. This is basically an analogy for the entire game, the occurences feel forced and unnatural. Every decision of the protagonists makes you hate them more. There is nothing wrong with transgenderism and homosexuality, but its like creating a sports game with only fat athletes. It just doesnt check out.

    Furthermore, throwing extreme brutality with no underlying meaning or message at the player didnt help either. I imagine the goal was to provoke a sophisticated reaction from the players, but it feels more like a trashy splatter movie than an artistic shocking message.

    Overall this game feels more like a statement. Its easily the most boring AAA game I have ever played. The points that kept me playing were the beautiful design & music (in most parts very atmospheric), the hope for a genius story twist and simple nostalgia for the first part.

    I think the game may appeal to a niche audience and it does have its moments, but personally I wish I hadnt wasted my time with it.    … Expand

To survive in a zombie apocalypse and live peacefully while ignoring their enemies? The game would've been more realistic if one of them could die in the first game.     Love this game and very highly recommend it. Not for players who like to shoot and respawn and repeat and repeat, REPEAT, huh, ...so most of these bad reviews are coming from people like that. It does a SJW like story to it, those reviews you read do have some value if any at all. But regardless should not stop you from playing this spectacular game. 9/10 storyline to it in my opinion withLove this game and very highly recommend it.     Amazing game with new mechanics compared to its predecessors breathtaking story and gameplay similar to the first, however, enhanced to the thousandth power titanic game of such complete there are few around should try it all.

    Gameplay wise, they have definitely improved on all the original games mechanics. Although this one is much more heavily leaned towards wanting you to do stealth. The upgraded melee was particularly satisfying.

    The graphics are amazing. Nothing else to say about them other than the lighting department needs a damn award.

    It's a shame that the best parts of this game were flashback scenes. It looks nice, and plays well, but after the halfway mark i started losing interest, and the ending was extremely unfulfilling. With a bit of a rewrite, i think this could have been a better game, but as it stands, its pretty weak. I have to say, after completing this game, i don't think i will be replaying it anytimeIt's a shame that the best parts of this game were flashback scenes. There is 2 thing that is horrible in TLOU2, the story and the characters, including Joel and Ellie, Story is really terrible and makes 0 sense IMO. Naughty Dog betrayed us and changed the personalities of the characters in a bad way. I think all of the other characters are built on SJW. Animations are good, mechanics are good, the combat system is good, graphics are good, horse mechanics are bad dialogues are good, Since the main points of TLOU are the story and the characters it is 1/10, This review may take hella dislikes but this is my personal idea so I don't care.… Expand

It was great thanks to its storytelling skills. They totally destroyed every beautiful theme that they build in the first game. Stop putting ''sjw'' to everything. Not worth 60$.

    I wanted to like this game. The first Last of us was great. Part 2 IS NOT. I’ve never been so disappointed by a game. Truly a catastrophe on so many levels. It’s just COMPLETE GARBAGE. Naughty dog used to make great games, not anymore.

The Last of Us give you a lot different feelings, and can make you angry, sad, etc. But the story and the anti-revenge message would be more poweful if Ellie killed Abby in the ending and abandoned the girl in the boat, and after that returned to home without any friends, and wife, and family.
    So the game is a masterpiece, in graphics and history, but pay $60 dollars for it isn't worth    … Expand

    The game has some disadvantages of course, such as limitation of level exploring (Ellie blocks the way behind all the time, in order to free system resources but it often prevent you from looting some supplies which were left behind), motion matching animation sometimes works buggy, to but still it is so very much better that most of the similar games of this genre.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am sad to say that when you write a masterpiece, there is very little you can do to add to that. This story needed no closure or additional material. But ND think otherwise.

    The writing is dire. Full of plot holes & is very sadistic. Even the characters we are familiar with are reduced to a latter glory of themselves. Joel - who used to be impetuous & take no nonsense is now a withered old man who takes abused from Ellie who is now a spoilt brat who has no morals, ethics, & seldom any intelligence left. She isn't half as likable as Abby who seems to be the better of a poor bunch of brainless girls merely reacting to digs from friends all the time, when they're not stuck in FLASHBACKS for half the game!
    Flashbacks are a result of poor writing falling apart at the seems via logic. Stanley Kubrick once opined "Don't Tell the story.. SHOW the story". Not only do they fail at both, but they are constantly patching it up with amendments in timelines which have no impact to the present story. It is tedious. A frustrating slog through intended checkpoints in order for the ending to make sense.

    It's a shame. Because I think there is no environment in which the people behind the first had any say at all in whether all their work be wiped away with a lesser game that no one wanted. Many Devs raised their voice. The concerns.. ignored.

    This isn't anything to do with sexuality or diversity. I quite like the cast, if they weren't under the strict stipulation of turgid writing. It's GOT Season 7 & 8 all over.    … Expand

    Imagine if Master Chief gets killed by the Arbiter in Halo 2 a few minutes in, and then you play as Arbiter for the rest of the game, as well as Halo 3, 4, 5 and Halo Infinite.

    Thats what this game basically is.

    Lets hope Master Chief is not a white male underneath that helmet.

On top of that, what gameplay-elements have been improved upon aren´t interesting of exciting enough to merit neither its length, nor some of the sequences that you are forced through.

    They tried to please the people that won't buy this shiet of a game and just ignored the player/gamer that loved the first one. Ya know what's worse? They fired the women who wrote the story for the first game. Hypocrites.

I’m sure it’s a good game gameplay wise but when a company makes such a good game and then wants to flip the script in an unnecessary way involving the characters you know and love is such a thing now.     How on earth can you kill a character you made us spend a whole game to bond with, then do that. This game was built from the relationship of Ellie and Joel created. What's worse is then to rub salt in the wound make you make us play as the person who did it for a large portion of the game!!!! I mean you let her live!This has killed my my love for the last of us and hope it gets any more bad reviews. The gameplay is is what I expected with nothing overly new added, but the story ruined within two hours was enough for me. Also Dina and jesse blow chunks and are dull.    … Expand

    Absolute disappointment. Went through part 1 before and it could not be worse what they did/ why they did it? to part 2. Maybe to favour a certain demographic/ ideology I don‘t know. One of the worst endings I ever experienced in a videogame. Graphic 9/10 and the 7/10 gameplay is the only thing holding this game together. Story 0/10

    This games story is terrible, It just makes one feel disappointed and depressed that this is all they could come up with in 7 years of waiting. I think all of the writers of the first game quit and we were left with Neil Druckmann and his three yes men writing this game.

    This is a great game, truly. The story-telling is raw and brutal, and fits quite well the tone of the series. Graphics are an absolute masterpiece. You should play it with headphones on, it's quite immersive. Maybe the best PS4 game of this gen, with the permission of Bloodborne and God of War.
