    See, I know that a game shouldn't be judged just on the basis of its story, it should be judged on various other aspects which can be much more important sometimes, however this isn't the type of game that would've been not focused on plot or story but instead just gameplay.     This game is horrible, pleagued by politics, and agendas, I want to play the story driven award winning zombie survival, not play the political pushing zombie game, I'm sure zombies are a bigger danger than anything else to worry about

A huge amount of hours were spent on multiplayer in part one, only to find out there is no multiplayer on this one. I looked it up, and the company said it had such great ideas for multiplayer, it was going to be a whole separate game. Sounds like a 60 dollarThis is nowhere near the caliber of game as the first.     The visuals are the best of ANY PS4 game... period. I didn’t know the system was capable of graphics like this. If you told me it was PS5... it would trick me.

    Now, the story does not draw you in like the first one. You can tell it’s a much weaker plot, but it’s no way the worse I’ve experienced. The quickest way to ruffle my feathers is to try and push your political agenda on me, expecially if it had nothing to do with the story! Rarely do I stop playing a game because of how terrible and boring it is, but this was one of those cases. I couldn't get through it because I kept falling asleep.     ***TL;dr An accurate synopsis of this game and how the writing is like that of a five year old
    " 2 angy women no like ech over, but is frends at end bcose vilence am naughty"

    Where to even start with this game, 7 years in the making yet it feels like the entire story, if you can even call it that was written by a 7 year old.

    In a wave of yearly, tired, predictble, easily forgotten triple A titles, the last of us set itself apart and gained practically universal appraise because of the characters. The world was interesting, the graphics were beautiful, but what made it different to other big titles churned out was how it handled the characters. In the first game you played as two damaged characters in a post apocalyptic world, learning about each other, fighting both infected and humans, the apocalypse was a back drop to the genuine growth and development of these 2 much loved characters. We played as a man who lost his daughter, his only reason to live, we saw him thrown into situations where both humans and infected were trying to kill him, we watched him overcome depression, we watched him form a bond with a girl who would become an adoptive daughter figure to him. We played as ellie, an orphan growing up in a post apocalyptic world, who is inexplicbly immune to the virus, who at a young age experience enough dark crap that she had justified trust issues, we saw as she opened up and grew to trust in joel.

    Then after almost a decade the second game comes along and removes everything that made the first game so iconic. Joel is killed before he gets any screen time, and he is not killed for world building, or to make room for other characters to come and develop and grow, he was not killed to set up an interesting plot, he was killed for cheap shock value story telling. In a world with infected,raiders, military, mercenaries, communities, cannibals, cults, religious fanatics there were a million different ways they could have introduced new struggles for these characters, instead they used the easiest, most simplistic trick in the book.

    In 2 you play as 2 characters
    Ellie, but not like ellie in the first game, this version does not grow or change or learn, she is angry woman with nothing past the surface level rage.
    Abby, a cope/paste version of ellie, a woman who has the exact same one and only personality trait that ellie has, that has the same one and only predictible driving force that ellie has, but unlike ellie she has no history with the player, she has no endearing or redeeming features and again there is nothing past the surface level rage.

    As for the actual "story" it is a predictible, boring revenge story, but even that is not done right, If they wanted to do a predictible revenge story it would not have been as successful as the first game, but it would still be more time in this world, with those characters and would still be enjoyable. But, nope, naughty dog decided instead to have us play with 99.9% of the screen time watching this revenge story unfold only for it to end with one character completely changing her personality on a dime, in a perfect example of utterly lazy deus ex machina writing.

    All this means that the players are left watching an uninspired, forgetabble, awful revenge story unfold only to end with the most anti climactic, pious, self righteous, holier-than-thou, "revenge is bad kids, mmmmkay" message, that resolves nothing and feels completely empty.    … Expand

    Unfortunately, that is basically all the game does well. Graphics and voice work can only carry a game so far without good gameplay and story to back it up (in most cases anyway; there are plenty of examples where gameplay carries a game entirely), The gameplay is passable enough; essentially just an iteration or two off of the first game but nothing noteworthy to really set it above it's predecessor. But the story is where the game really loses the plot.

    I don't want to spoil anything (not that it hasn't been spoiled all over the place for a few months now) so I won't go into specific details of the plot but I'll lay out a few general critiques. For instance, much of the game takes place with a group that it fails to really endear the player too. As such, unlike the first title it tends to be hard to get emotionally invested in them and the struggles they face feel empty which greatly undercuts many of the more dramatic moments in the story. Beyond that, the characters the game does a good job of connecting you to (or who have a prior connection from the first game) tend to act in unreasonable ways when compared to their personalities or previously established character traits. But, in my opinion, the most egregious fumble the game makes is just a measly 2 hours into the game where it combines all the faults and just killed my enthusiasm for the rest of the story.

    All in all, it is a very pretty game with decent gameplay but does little to actually motivate you to play through the story.    … Expand

    First I loved the first game, it was my first game in ps4, I really consider it as my favorite game of all times, I play video games since I was 5 years old and I've played a lot of games. So, I consider this part two is a great come back to the main story bringing us an extended view of a post-apocalyptic world in which we're trying to survive as we do at the moment with covid 19.     This sequel ruins the original masterpiece.Part 2 still got great graphics and some intense sequences but the story is horrible and poorly written.This game clearly doesn't have magic that part 1 had and it didn't rise to its expectation

    A truly brave game that will revolutionize not only the way you make videogames, but also the way to deepen the characters and create stories. The writing is impeccable, the plot twists unpredictable and breathtaking. It's not a game for overly sensitive people and I understand why many can't stand it, but the are quieter game for them to play if they can't handle violence and realism

You play as Ellie and get close to the end, only for it to switch to Abby and you have to relive the past again. So dang BORING!!! A **** attempt to get people to like and understand Abby. There are no games that deserve 0. People judge this game without even having it. Many of them reviewed only TLOU2, most users don't have a copy of this game, It's ridiculous.     TLOU was a great walking simulator with an incredible story, the gameplay was meh but the story made up for any shortcomings. Now that I’ve experienced TLOU2 from start to finish I can firmly say screw this whole studio. Visually it looks amazing but the gameplay hasn’t evolved enough and the writing is hilariously bad. Not our fault, the gamers, that they tried to bribe their way into different groups.     I just finished the game and it was awful. I was playing with anger, sadness and disturbance.
    I dont know what to say about it, The Last of Us is dead for me, thank you naughty dog.
    I will never play another game from you.

I have a feeling a lot of these 1 star reviews are from people who haven't even played the game and some from people who own a certain MS console and can't play it. I received my copy 2 days early and I'm now finished. I'm not going to lie the first 2 hours broke me and I found myself very angry and sad about the direction the game was going in, but I ploughed through and I'm so glad that I did.
    Everything looks stunning it's the best game graphically available on the PS4 Pro. And with a generation that includes RDR2 and God of War that's no easy feat. The environment's feel alive in a way I've never experienced in a game before, the characters feel so real and the way enemies call each other by name makes every kill feel even more brutal. Upon first arriving in Seattle I was really enjoying tearing stuff up, mutilating and killing every WLF member I could find and leaving no-one alive, mainly because of my anger about the event 2 hours in. However the story is so masterfully written that by the midway point of Ellies first section I was already questioning whether any of this was worth all the bloodshed. The way enemies are brutally killed by Ellie was satisfying at first but carry weight the further you get into the game.
    Then I reached the section with Abby which during the first 2 hours of the game I never could have hated a video game character more, even more than Micah from RDR2. I wanted her to die cruelly at the hands of Ellie. But again Naughty Dogs masterclass of storytelling shines through. We are treated to a wonderful backstory explaining where Abby's hate began and her journey for revenge which mirrors Ellies story and even surpasses it in some regards, by the time you're done playing with Abby her morals and reasoning behind her actions far outweigh Ellie's bloodlust.

    The talent of Naughty Dog is on show here, turning a character I never thought I could hate more into someone you actually like in the space of 8-10 hours of gameplay is something I don't think any other developer in the buisness could acheive.

    The gameplay itself is massively improved so much more to craft, bigger environments to use stealth and more angles and avenues to use to your advantage in every situation you come across, not to mention the infected are fantastic in this game. The horrifying clickers return which are as terrifying as ever, The runners are also more deadly in this game. Special mention for the Stalkers which are massively improved in part 2, they hide around corners or in dark spaces and wait for you, and are very clever working in packs to try to kill you. I can honestly say in every way this game really needs to be played, I can see why there is division and I found myself angry and upset after the first 2 hours, but that is how the developer want's you to feel. Naughty Dog want you to arrive in Seattle full of hate and I can promise by the time you finish Ellie's section if you don't feel redeemed by all the bloodshed you must be psychotic.
    I've never experienced anything across all forms of media that moved me in the way this game has, that includes films, TV series and games. In a world of video games with stick thin plotlines and tireless open world, climb a tower unlock the next part of the map etc, bland games. This stands out by a mile.
    Really don't understand all the 1 star reviews here, either they've not played the game or a writing their opinion after 2 hours of playing. Funny thing is if Part 2 was the exact same journey story of Joel and Ellie in different locations there'd be another group of people complaining that it does nothing new, and is just milking the first game.
    Maybe that's what people want nowadays, the same stories over and over again with no shock factor and nothing new to add. This remaster culture we seem to have gotten into in the last 5 years or so is proof of this. I have a feeling that looking back in years to come this will be looked back on as a seminal moment in gaming, although it's divisive and raw, it's interesting.     The game is a masterpiece. Don’t listen to the people crying that Joel’s death wasn’t all sun shine and rainbows in a **** POST APOCALYPSE, don’t listen to the insecure and pathetic neck beards who are angry that gay people exist. The game doesn’t shove the SJW stuff in your face unless to you that means showing you anything that isn’t heterosexual. I am 12 hours in and the there was about three lines of dialogue where Ellie calls someone a bigot because they called her a dyke. Literally nothing else. If you are emotionally threatened by that, it’s your problem.     What an absolute mess. I feel bad for everyone else involved in creating this, that had to work with such horrible writing. Neil, this is going to follow you through the rest of your poorly-chosen career, you absolute dolt. As far as I, and many other people are concerned, this is a cringe fanfic, and in no way canon.

It was intense fun scary gross and had me going threw all sorts of emotions the world is cruel and savage and shows the extent of what humans will do when they feel like they have nothing to lose. Game play is nice not every confrontation is the same sometimes you just have to run for your life or u will be swarmed other times you have to sneak or hide its really intense and I was playing only the hardest mode so it was unique experience. Its good game its not perfect but man its really something else I recommend it.… Expand

This game is heavily founded on pushing views and agendas in which highly affects everything about this game...a chain reaction of terrible writing, story telling, plot holes from small to big.     just save your money and watch the movi- I mean, game, on youtube and at least get some laughter out of it if anything. That way you won't have buyers remorse and you can feel better about yourself knowing there are a lot of people who bought it and delude themselves into thinking it's good to justify their purchase. Masterpiece my ass!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
