With only a few problems, the gameplay is a solid 7-8. However, this is not a gameplay based game like Mario or Apex. This is a Narrative driven game and the quality of the narrative and story must be critiqued at a higher standard. Wow are there major plot holes in this game. There is very little back story on characters and little character development for the new characters. Key major events happen but are narratively justified quickly improperly. Don't get me wrong, the game and story is not bad, it's just average. (With high highs and lows lows along your journey)… Expand

    The 3.4 user score is diabolical. I watched the spoiler videos across YOUTUBE. I'm guilty of drawing a conclusion that this game was deserving of being totally abandoned. This is the first game in my lifetime where, knowing what DOES happen far from spoils it. It made me laugh, cry rivers. It is STILL THIS POWERFUL, after somebody had tried to destroy it!     New games such as it never will be released for nearly 10 years. That game is a sequel original TLOU, It telling about grown-up Ellie 19 years old, want to Seattle.
    Guys, if you insult developers, humiliate developers, angry at the developers Naughty Dog about some feminism, female power, guys, just play this game. Plz can be not mad.

    The most overrated game this generation. This is a political statement, not a video game, whis low and boring gameplay.
    Story is utterly disgusting. Characters lost all their charm, intelligence and personnality.

    but they destroyed everything i loved from the first game, this is supposed to be a sequel from an honorable game, but instead we got a trash Netflix interactive movie

    I enjoyed the game, but just a little little bit , what they did to the story, thats the only thing i hate, but a lot, i can't believe how they ruined everything the first game built, poor writing, the plot holes are **** up.

    Joel was like almost an Arthur Morgan to me, but atleast Arthur had a good death, but it still was a really sad for all the time you spent with Arthur (depending), if Joel had died like a hero or sacrificing for Ellie i wouldn't be annoyed, but if atleast you could beat the **** up out of Abby at the ending and stab her multiple times to revenge Joel, it would be a little better, but nope, Ellie let's her go... are you ****ing kidding me.

    Its a nice game, but the story is what ruined it all, the gameplay feels a little old, but still entertaining
    i honestly wouldn't reccomend it, but if you dont care about the story or the characters that made The Last Of Us be what it was before this sequel, maybe, just maybe you could try it out, but if thats what you loved about the first game, then stay away from this game.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Over all those issues, I’d like to rate this game 10 out of 10. I loved to be Ellie and follow her emotions. Users can find lots of scenes that reminds them about the part1&dlc. The graphics&guitar sound was awesome. Also the enemy’s AI(with various action while searching&fighting)and fighting actions were cool. Increased useable weapons were interesting. Also while the adventure time, users can do lot more actions (like using rope, jumping around, and etc.) than we did in part1. The idea this game wants to tell us about was great. Playing this game with some open-minded heart will give you the best experience.

    I understand why people get mad about the story. Joel’s death made them not just “angry”, but more. Just like Ellie did. It was definitely directors’ mistake that they didn’t realize how much people do care about Joel and how much they’ll gonna be frustrated. Directors should’ve notice that user’s anger won’t lead them to “be Ellie”, but lead them to stop the game and score the lowest. But I can also understand why the story happened like that. I didn’t searched about the leaks, so during the playtime was the time when I knew Joel’s gonna be die. The sadness, anger, frustration, and all of my emotions... while I was looking on Ellie’s face... it made me to be her. But yeah, if I’d heard about the leak(that Joel gonna die, and not just dying, but with a golf club.), I won’t be able to enjoy the game like i’m doing now. I’ll start the game with full of anger about Joel’s fate and thinking about this game is a total **** or I’ll just enjoy the part1 over and over, not buying this game, making my own story of Joel&Ellie. I totally understand why users are so upset about this game, but I also think that if there wasn’t the leak, user’s score won’t be that low. Without a prejudice, people might be angry(with the same rage as now) but also they could be able to immerse themselves in a story. By linking themselves with Ellie, by being her.

    About the ending, I totally agree with the directors. Make Ellie kill Abby, just like the users wanted to, but then what? Will the revenge make Ellie feel better? Is that really an answer? There was always an “unusual” endings in this series. In part1, Joel’s selfish decision was the ending(to say in a bad way). But why not this time? I loved the idea what this game wanted to say. It’s painful thing to accept that idea, but I did.

    I’m Korean, so I don’t know how international users think about LGBTQ+ and any other issues in this game, but I do know that it made some of Korean users get mad. But is that really a thing to be mad just because you can’t shoot Jewish thing, main character is a gay, and the Queer flag is in the game... Like, for REAL?? I think some angers go to the wrong way, not make them to be Ellie but be some socially-mentally immature people. It can’t be a reason or an excuse to rate this game low. I think the game made a society where we are living right now. Sure there’s no infected, but there’s various people living with us. Some users should see the character/people not as their identity, but just as a human.

    The gameplay was great just as I wrote it in the intro. I hope people could see this game not with some colored glasses.    … Expand

The fighting feels dated at this point but some people might be wishing for that system to stay as it is. The problem is with story writing. I have no idea why they would try to make a game with gritty realism when the people that wrote the story feel so incredibly detached from reality. Basic human instincts and principles are broken to keep up an extremely hollow story about issues they have no real concept of. The game succeeds in subverting expectations but in the worst ways possible. If I could go back in time and avoid the game I most definitely would as even in the ending there was nothing else but disappointment. If you are just hoping for a satisfying resolution of the Ellie vs Abby story then just stop playing and save yourself the headache.… Expand

Honestly, it feels like they were so determined to subvert expectations that it actually deranged them and their decision-making.

    This game is so bleak and nihilistic it almost becomes comedic. I don't think a single good thing happens to a single character in the entire game that isn't completely undone or reversed by the end of it. The first game had tragedy, but the darkness was there to challenge and ultimately accentuate the lightness — it wasn't just darkness for the sake of darkness. The first game also had heart, and plenty of it. Where is the heart in this sadistic carnival of misery?

    The original Last of Us is genuinely my favorite game of all time. This sequel goes to such extreme lengths to tear apart everything I loved about the original that it frankly feels spiteful and vindictive. How professional critics could give this 10/10's is just mind boggling to me. I think some people mistake misery for high-art, as though that's the only necessary ingredient. As though a work of art making you want to claw your eyes out and then jump out a window must mean that it's really "brave" and "deep". This game is not deep — it's a superficial, indulgent and conceited slog.

    Beloved characters don't even act like themselves. Somehow, 14 year-old Ellie from the previous game is significantly more emotionally mature, wise, perceptive and empathetic than the 19 year-old version we're introduced to. How does that make any sense whatsoever?

    All the beautiful nuance and ambiguity of the original game's ending is retconned into preachy, black-and-white moralising. My worst case scenario for this sequel was that it would not only fail to live up to its full potential (and there was so much potential), but that it would actually sully and undermine the legacy of the first game. And it absolutely has. I say it with no joy, but I now genuinely wish there had never been a sequel at all, and that TLOU had definitively ended once and for all with that fantastically executed conversation between Joel and Ellie at the end of the first game. This sequel is such a staggeringly huge mistake, and it can never be erased or undone.

    I'm giving this 3 stars for the graphics, sound and music alone. I understand how much work must have gone into that side of the game. But TLOU is a story-driven game, so story is king. Everything else is just peripheral to me and, frankly, something I would expect from a massive Sony game with an eye-watering budget. I'd honestly rather play a 2D pixel-art game with good writing and storytelling. So 3/10 is the most generous score I can muster.    … Expand

    And in TLOU 2, suddenly, after rescuing a stranger, he finds himself in a dark room with a dozen people armed, reveals his real name as if they were his buddies and gets shot. writing 0/10.
    And because above all TLOU is a game that has succeeded thanks to its story and characters, as well as a keen sense of detail, destroying this legacy because of some kind of nauseating anti-vengeance/non-violence moral forced down the throat is absolutely unacceptable. It doesn't matter if you put trans or gay people in the game, we don't care, but stop forcing your political agenda in games where it doesn't belong. Do you really think that in a situation where society is collapsing as a result of a virus that creates zombie fungus trans people would be a topic for discussion?
    - "you're gay, you're trans, you're both at the same time? I'm happy for you, now let's find some food to survive." That's what it should look like. It should never be the main topic of this **** story. Unfortunately, it is, with this stupid anti-trans cult (who gives a **** and these empty characters who are just there to act as a token so that everyone can feel represented. I will start talking about game play, the combat and interacting with the world are really good, really feels like being there but the looting and constant walking only to add more to the game time is really lame. The graphics are beautiful, not much to say and finally the story, killing the most important character in the franchise in 2 hours of game play is pretty stupid. Joel was one of the most likable and relevant character in the entire gaming community, he was loved by a lot of people, and he gets killed by an unreal unknown woman, yes unreal because you just can't grow those muscles in a apocalypse and its not the only thing about Abby, the developers even want us to play the most hated character in the game for half of the game. Absolute bull***t. Not to mention how annoying and boring were most of the scenes about her story. And the finale, Ellie becomes insane and doesn't even kill Abby. Feels like the developers hate Joel and Ellie. If there is going to be a part 3 (doubt it) i heavily hope it will have the spirit of the first game.… Expand

    Good graphics, a bit slow at the beginning, the gameplay was nice (nothing new) until...

    So they got Joel, bit him up and kill him.
    I have no problem with losing Joel, actually, I thought this would boost the story.

    But then they capture Ellie and...

    They did the most logical thing, let her go...
    so she could get back to her people and just accept that they killed Joel.

    From that point, everything goes south and nothing makes sense anymore.    … Expand

Havent played it yet but neither have the cucks giving it bad scores because theyre jealous their console cant play it, offended by anything LGBQT+, or are angry the developers didnt make a game where everything is happy and perfect that they would have made because they have no balls.

Most of what they pushed were luxurys of our world that THAT world would be unable to afford. I'm only about a 3rd of the through the game but I doubt I will finish. Oddly, I kinda wanna play the original again(12th time when I do). For me, this was money well waisted and I hope this review help to keep someone else from making the same mistake.… Expand

Contrary to most of the reviews here I actually liked Abby as a character, trouble is everything that dribbled out of all characters mouths seemed hollow, their actions never seem realistic bordering on character breaking at many times. Grounded hardened survivalist characters act like children trying to get invited to the prom here.

    Not that it matters, all disagreement with this game being literal perfection is being labelled as all sorts of horrific things. Time will tell I guess, they got my money I’m sure they don’t care. I reckon they might care when they want to sell the next one. I won’t be rushing to buy that one.    … Expand

    I'm sure some people will enjoy it but for me it was just a rehash of the first game with no enjoyable elements. And holy crap... There must be 10x as much useless wondering and spastic navigation 'puzzles' my r-tarded One eyed pug could solve than Dragonball z and Naruto and one piece EPs combined. I've never watched any of those but I hear it's a lot.
    The game didn't make me angry because I hate lesbians, vengeance, gore, busy work or grinding achievements. It's just a **** game.     The first game is a masterpiece, phenomenal graphics for its time coupled with a meaningful and emotional plot. The gameplay was good, not great, though. Anyway, it was expected for anyone to go into the second game with high expectations.
    Well, then the leaks came, and those who saw it realized that everything the first game built was basically thrown into the thrash. 

    Here's a summary if you decided to avoid the leaks and warnings:
    The main character, Joel, is killed two hours into the game in the most imbecile way possible. After that, you are FORCED to play as the character who killed him and the game even makes you try and sympathize with him/her. I honestly don't know what "gender to assume" for this character here, and an awkward and unnecessary sex scene only worsen things. If this character was conceived as a trans person, then it was one of the most disrespectful representations I've seen. By the way, TLoU II is full of misrepresented people. Not going into details here, but you can check the videos, it is outright disgusting and made for pure shock value. That’s just not how you do it, not how you do it at all.
    Now, the game is told like a revenge story of sorts, but never works. Joel and his brother are killed in front of Ellie, who forgets about it for a time (CORRECTION: Only Joel was killed, Tommy comes back later. The guy took a shotgun shot to the head and still managed to survive, go figure). Then, a long time later, Ellie is visited by Tommy and decides to abandon everything she had (even girlfriend and her kid) to finally get revenge for Joel's death. Also, according to flashbacks in the game, it is hard to believe how Ellie still cares about Joel, who is mistreated by her several times, so that was maybe remorse instead of revenge? Idk.
    Anyway, back to this joke of story, Ellie finds Joel’s killer, Abby, and after a brutal fight decides not to kill her/him. Yeah, that's it, she just tells Abby to go home.
    The game ends with Ellie alone, struggling to play a guitar because she got her fingers bitten and removed during the last fight.

    What a mess.

    Finally, let’s set the record straight, the graphics are awesome and the voice acting is top notch, gameplay stays basically the same, so still somewhat good, if sometimes a bit clunky. 
But don’t be fooled, we can’t just paint a turd gold and expect people to love it. If anything all this eye-candy only makes everything even more sad, like a big missed opportunity to build a game that respects Joel/Ellie journey and relationship.
    Shame for Sony, shame for Naughty Dog and shame for everyone actively involved in making the game like it turned out.
    
I gave this game 2/10 because two are the fingers Ellie lost. So, if I was not just trying to be funny, my rate would be a very round zero.
    In short, I don't know who you are or where you are from, if you liked the first game or not, but I can tell you this: Stay away from The Last of Us Part II!    … Expand

As a single player only, linear based story game it absolutely didn't hit the mark. This games story is all over the place and it tries to make you care about characters you've never heard of before this game. The ending was a disaster, they killed off their best character in the most meaningless most stupid way. The whole story is pointless. As a huge fan of Naughty Dog I'm sad to see this happen. I have no idea if Neil Druckmann is to blame for this garbage fire of a story. Whoever approved it is an idiot and should be fired. And to those who think that I hate this game because you play as a female character, you're wrong. I hate it because it disrespects the original characters for a new never before seen characte that no one cares for although the game tries so hard to make you care. And I have no problem playing a a female character in games. Actually I prefer it, horizon zero dawn, is a good example of this, I had very little issues with that game, compared to this.… Expand

    Great game as usual from Naughty Dog. 1/3 of the game played, 11 hrs, not everything is perfect but it has sublime moments. Amazing storytelling.

    Pitty the haters who can't handle the adult topics in the game. Go back to CoD/Halo and try playing the game before reviewing.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll be the first to say that sequels have it tough, especially considering how the first was arguably one of the best games to come out. The first was a fan favorite due to the story's writing and the relationship dynamic between Ellie and Joel. It was perfect, or as close as it could be, especially with it's ending. I will always remember having to choose between sacrificing Ellie for the betterment of humanity, or saving her to let her life her life. The ending played on your morals and your sense of duty, it was perfect.

    The Last of US 2 is not a sequel, it may have the same characters, name, and setting etc, but it's not the same game. It's a **** show. The contrast in reviews between critics and users is laughable. It's abundantly clear that the critics were paid for their 10/10 reviews, because anyone playing this would immediately know it's garbage.

    Sure the graphics were amazing. And it's improved it's crafting system, a few other things when compared to the first. But the storyline is nonexistent. Killing Joel was definitely a downer, but this wouldn't have been the first game that's killed off an important beloved character. When done right, it can truly improve the storyline and promote character growth with the remaining cast. That wasn't the case here. Killing Joel off was bad enough, but doing it in the way you did, making a show of it, was just disgusting. Worse yet you made us play as "Abby" the one who literally beat Joel to death. It's obvious that you intended for us to grow attached to her throughout her storyline. How we'd learn her motivations in killing Joel, and eventually grow to care for the character. That obviously failed.

    Making us hate the character we are about to play as was truly one of the worst things you've could have done. If that wasn't bad enough, the ending was truly pathetic and pointless. Ellie's storyline throughout the game is one of revenge. It was written poorly, but it was definitely a motivating goal for most of us playing. Ellie killed hundreds of people throughout the game for her revenge, but in the end choose to spare Joel's killer, like what the **** was that? You even made her lose some fingers in the fight, yet she still choose to let them go?

    A better ending wouldn't have made this any better, but it sure would have been more tolerable. A better ending would have been to choose between Killing Abby yourself, or letting her die off slowly while on the cross. That would been so much better the **** we ended up getting. What a disappointment, you ruined Joel's character by killing him off in the way you did, and completely ruined Ellies as well.    … Expand

    A perfect depiction of grey morality, strong drama and excellent technical performance. The gameplay is not my favorite part of the game, but it is overlaid by an ultra-cool and exciting storyline. As a person who was skeptical about sjw part I am pleasantly surprised.

    GAME PLAY:
    The most immersing ever, dynamic, chaotic, but always comprehensible and so damn fun. The environment is like a Luna Park of the combat, and you can use everything in interesting ways. Also, it is constructed to allow the player to survive from very dangerous situations, but only if you're smart enough. Also, the shooting is really fun too, even if it's not perfect.
    GRAPHICS:
    Your PS4 will cry with this graphical masterpiece. you can truly see how the next-gen can bring us into new universes with this game. Take the beautiful animations and polygonal models from Uncharted 4, make them even better, add an incredible lighting system and a stupidly high quantity of diversity: this game is awesome. There is a LOD which I haven't seen before. It's not casual if I'm saying this a lot of times.

    I've never seen a game like this before.
    Please, buy and play this masterpiece.

Killing a character isn't automatically good just because it's dark. Having characters we know are smart act like idiots to put them in a dark place isn't good writing, it's contrived at best.

    Lastly, the actions of Sony and Naughty Dog have been both unethical and illegal in response to the leaks. We also learned about the horrible work environment that abuses employees at ND.

    So the gameplay is boring, the story is terrible, and the people that made the game are horrid. I don't see any reason to buy this game.    … Expand

    I found myself pausing the game a lot just to take in the immense narrative that this game presents. The Last Of Us Part 2 definitely contains a good story, but I think it’s a bad video game. Druckmann would be more suited to making films and television. I admire his bravery in telling a story strictly about survivors, rather than your basic hero versus villian narrative.     Please if you are at all interested in this game and/or enjoyed the first game, please get this one... there are a lot of bitter fans and people who think it's cool to hate that try to drag this game and naughty dog through the dirt, but this game is a masterpiece with a carefully written story and beautiful moments!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
