    The game is awesome. I don't care what you guys say but it is. If you could understand what the story meant maybe you wouldn't feel like it. I mean the whole reason for Ellie's quest is symbolic. If you don't like this game at least for its story, I don't know what to say

    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

    First, the 60 dollar price tag is not warranted at all- the game has no multiplayer, and although I understand this is a story driven game, TLOU's multiplayer was what made the first game replayable and added weight to the price point. Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.

    The story itself is hideous. Joel is the central character in the first game and the concept of bringing Ellie to the forefront this time around is interesting. But to have Joel die in the first couple hours of the game to a "villain" of sorts who isn't even portrayed as a villain per-say is irritating and disgraceful. There is no continued development between Joel and Ellie in the time he is alive, which is another point of notice- the characters, their relationships and developments are all poorly designed. Ellie is not the Ellie you knew, the new characters are bland and unsatisfactory, and their arcs are incredibly generic. This is all a consequence of piss-poor writing and it leads to a terrible thematic lesson that is driven into your face the entire game: "Revenge is bad". What is even worse is not that these sentiments are already known and have been expressed in other mediums long before, it's that this resolution is explicitly just that: that revenge is bad. There is no depth here, no greater meaning, nothing to attain. Moreso, this elementary lesson is not even grasped by Ellie until the very end of the game, just as she is about to kill Abby. Ellie has literally killed hundreds in this pursuit of "justice" yet coincidentally, God has enlightened her with moral righteousness right before she deals the killing blow to Abby. This doesn't make sense at all, yet neither does the countless other decisions made by characters in this game.

    This is not to say there aren't intriguing elements to the story. The issue is it all entirely backpedals from the first game. These so called "bold" decisions aren't bold, they're destructive. If I liked the first game for x, y, and z reasons, why on earth would you disregard those elements this time around? People want to play the sequel because of the first game. The thing that Naughty Dog and other storytellers who have made such a mistake (Rian Johnson for instance) fail to grasp is that the stories you are continuing already have a solid foundation that people like for these x, y, and z reasons. You can make "bold" decisions without destroying the legacy the previous installments laid out. Frankly, it can be said that TLOU2 would be very good game had it been a standalone title. The issue here is it is not, and thus there is something to uphold (being the first game). And it does not do that at all.

    I'll refrain from discussing other aspects of the game because even though the gameplay and mechanics aren't particularly great either, the primary issue of this game in my eyes is the story, and by far. And all this fault is put on Neil Druckmann. The fact that this is Druckmann's first game on his "own" without the support of Straley (and of course Henning, whom was the real factor of Naughty Dog's prior successes), it is clear the guy has no creative talent and storytelling genius. His co-director and the game's designers are evidently poor pieces as well. I foresee only downfall for what is left of this team.    … Expand

    Don’t let the negative reviews on here deter you from playing the game yourself. The Last of Us Part II has just as much allure as the original with stunning graphics, emotional character development, and nonstop suspense.     I’ve just played 20 hours and I can tell you this game is awesome! perfected gameplay with new mechanics and great storytelling, seriously guys what where you expecting?? The return of Ellie and Joel once again traversing USA? The last of us 1 had an amazing ending , that was it, part 2 was not required because that ending was perfect and we all knew it. Now these guys have created anI’ve just played 20 hours and I can tell you this game is awesome! perfected gameplay with new mechanics and great storytelling, seriously guys what where you expecting?? Apart from that , this game is excellent, a pleasure to the senses, a great horror game with fantastic exploration elements and a game that I dare to say is equally good as it’s predecessor.… Expand

    I loved Joel and Ellie and their bond... which is quickly killed one in this one just so we can switch to horrible characters that we are forced to play with and “love”. Or understand at least. The problem is, I don’t. I don’t understand nor love them. Imagine Nadine killing Nathan and they you play half the game as her and the game telling you it was as it should be.     As a long time film critic im not new to **** people being **** over something as stupid as a video game. Most reviews of this game are the worst thing to me. They take personal vendettas against a message brought to us through art. With that said I also don't believe that the message of tlou2 is pro gay but its more that gays just exist. The first couple of hours are not anything special but really it picks up and becomes truly amazing. The new character of Abby is easily one of my favorite characters in gaming period. Alot of controversy surrends her saying that she has poor writing but personally as a kid coming from similar circumstances I can personally say that she is perfectly written. The game has no to little plot holes which I see in many reviews they state. This is false. Last of us 2 is truly a masterpiece of both storytelling and gameplay.     Incredibly atmospheric, great graphics and hard hitting action. For me this is a 10 out of 10. 0 out of 10 people??? Really???

NaughtyDog has been an amazing game company for more than a decade BUT let's cut to the chase, TLOUS2 is not good. at least in a matter of storytelling. how come? Pretend NaughtyDog gonna announce Uncharted 5 in the next E3 and you just gonna get hyped for playing it and afterward, after playing it for 2 hours, NATHAN DRAKE is gonna get killed. Hurts? It really does because he was the main reason you have probably bought the game in the first place. There's a similar scenario for TLOUS2. You have bought the game not just for great graphics and gameplay but for the masterpiece STORYTELLING you experienced in the first game. You bought the game for the strong emotional connection between Joel and Ellie. Why would the writer gotta kill off the character that made you in love with the game in the first place? It makes no sense. That's why people are mad. ofc they love the gameplay, graphics but what about storytelling?
    Even a huge media like IGN is barely talking about the whole story in their review! Players buy the game for not the huge graphics but the connection they make during their play. They not gonna talk about how hard the mission was, they gonna talk about how fun it was playing that mission with the character. And shoutout to NaughtyDog for ruining that for us.     you can say much about the game without giving anything away, but you'll just have to see for yourself what makss this game so amazing. every detail is so finely crafted and so perfectly tuned.

    I can't help but feel like most of these reviews must have been written by sexist homophobes. This game is heartwrenching and tense, just like the first one. Maybe this game is a little slower with pacing but I kinda had to feel like there was payoff to the end of the first one. It's a John wick style plot and I absolutely love it

    This is an amazing movie. But the gameplay is very much a chore. I personally hate how they portrayed many of the reoccurring characters that I fell in love with, but that is more of a subjective feeling I have about the game. Seriously the gameplay is horrible and I find myself being very bored in combat.

    The gameplay hardly changed or upgraded from the last game, the enemies are more tedious (not fun) and killing them feels more like a shore. The storyline keept me uninterested and it was poorly executed. Definitely a giant downhill downgrade from the first game.

I really enjoyed it and was surprised by some of the things that happened, things I nor my friends expected but even though I was mad at first I remembered what type of game it was and put it in a real world situation and it all made since. Overall this was an astounding game, it’s in a tie for game of the year with Final Fantasy VII Remake for me… Expand

    The positive reviewers like to act like they are making good points when arguing why Joel was meant to die. No one disagrees Joel deserved to die, he was never established as a morally good character and he made a selfish decision which condemned the human race. No one is angry Joel died we are angry about how he died. My take on this would be much different if we were introduced to Abby long before she brutally murders Joel. They set them self up with an insurmountable task of creating empathy for Abby. And they didn't even try, we got a ten minute scene where she saves a Zebra with her father then they reveal Abby is the person who convinced them Ellie should be murdered to save humanity. If the writers are trying to make the player empathize with Abby why would they establish her as the one who condemned Ellie which inevitably led to Joel killing her father?

    Later on in the story we are introduced to Lev who saves Abbys life. This prompts Abby to betray the wolves to save Lev. This decision of Abbys feels like a fruitless attempt by the writers to establish Abby as a morally good character in order to gain empathy from the audience. They're trying to define Abby as selfless contrary to her making numerous selfish decisions. It's hard to say anything for certain about Abby's character because every other decision is conflicting. One moment she is selfless the next she is selfish. When it comes to condemning Ellie her morals are for the good of the many but when it comes to saving Lev her morals are for the good of the few. She gets very angry when she finds out Ellie has killed her friends yet she's already betrayed these friends and was prepared to leave these friends behind to help Lev.

    The story overall is nonsensical and revolves around and characters literally abandoning and losing everything in a fruitless quest for revenge. Both Abby and Ellie quite literally sacrificed everything over avenging the deaths of two people in a world where everyone has lost someone. Death and violence is around almost every corner of this world. Yet for whatever reason these two people are so special our characters travel thousands of miles killing hundreds to enact their revenge. Even after watching the bond which is formed between Joel and Ellie in the first game I have a hard time believing that Joel's death was enough to bring on this murderous rampage. Especially after Joel and Ellie’s rough relationship has been established.

    This world isn't the same world we were put into in the first game. There is no hope in this world, there is only violence and sadness. The violence is so over the top that by the end of the game I was completely numb to it all. The game heavily relies on shock value that was brought about through overly violent and grotesque actions perpetrated towards beloved characters which was so overly used it left me feeling nothing when the game came to it's final conclusion and this mattered the most. At no point were we given any sort of relief or loving character development which gave us respite from the sadness and violence of this world previously. In the first game Ellie provided 90% of this relief from the awful world we were witnessing. But she is now a shadow of her former self, despite spending her years safe and sheltered in a settlement with electricity she has completely lost the spark we saw in the first game. The conclusion of the game is hollow, hundreds die in this needless revenge plot and one singular person being saved who the player has established no empathy for is supposed to bring meaning to all the meaningless violence.    … Expand

When I was playing through it I kept saying out-load "Wow", "Wow", Wow". ..Like when I played the Wicher3, the new God of War, or Mass Effect3... but this game is even beyond that! This has next level gameplay. So much immersion and lvl of detail. I spent like 5 min looking at a rendered ps3 and you could clearly see the stack of gamesIf you actually play the game it's amazing!     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my honest opinion I think this game was phenomenal, just like the first. I usually have an open mind and take a realistic approach to everything in my life so I feel that Joel’s death wasn’t shocking in any way. Similar to Glenn dying in the Walking Dead. Gameplay and Graphics are improved and the survival aspect for the game feels realistic. Ammo, Med-kits, and Supplies are all scarce. The story isn’t necessarily bad either like everyone seems to say. Just because the Hero doesn’t save the day doesn’t mean it’s bad storytelling. The major problem is that the plot is scattered everywhere when there’s flashbacks so it feels like a mess. Also, the 2nd half of the game where you play as Abby was drawn out way too much and I couldn’t help but feel no sympathy for her through 90% of her gameplay. It could've been shown with a couple cutscenes rather than 5+ hours of gameplay. The game made me get a soft spot for side characters rather than the main characters. Owen, Dina, Jesse, and Mel are all very well written characters with decent backstories. However, I feel that Ellie didn't have enough time to show more of her character. Abby’s character is the exact opposite. Too much was shown of her backstory and most of it didn’t even add to the story. At most points in this game there’s a cutscene with music where I would believe sounds like an ending but it just keeps going onto more gameplay. If they wanted this game to be a lot better, I think they should’ve made Abby’s gameplay DLC but still keeping her backstory in the main game through cutscenes or clues that Ellie finds out. Now let’s talk about the ending phases. Having to play as Abby in the “final” showdown was really a poor choice. Gamers want to play as Ellie in a fight, not Abby. But the 2nd showdown in Santa Barbara was really fun to play. Reminded me of the showdown in Uncharted 4’s ending. The thing that ruined my “reward” for playing this game is that Ellie didn’t kill Abby, even after she bit her two fingers off. That satisfaction from the fight was ruined and I felt nothing for the revenge tale. The actual ending I find to be very heartwarming though. Ellie is no longer able to play the guitar because of her missing fingers and it gives a flashback to see Joel playing the same song. Every Time I saw Joel in the flashbacks I couldn’t help but shed a tear. The game ends with Ellie setting the guitar down and walking off to hopefully find Dina and her child. A bleak but open ending which describes this whole game. This game isn’t for people who want the hero to win like almost every game does. It’s to tell a story about a dark realistic world in a post-apocalyptic setting. Overall I thought the game was fantastic. Besides some parts from the game that could be cut I have no big problem with it. Everyone seems to go at Neil Druckmann for “bad storytelling” even though he wrote half of Uncharted 4 and wrote all of The Last Of US (2 games that were critically acclaimed). The story telling and writing isn’t bad, it’s just not what the normal person/gamer wanted. If you play this game, remember to have an open mind and see the different perspectives of every character in the story. It's a solid game and I feel that it's worth playing.… Expand

    Fails to push new plot in a interesting path and just leaves you feeling frustrated and disappointed if you played the first I would avoid this game. Game looks phenomenal with its cutting edge graphics and animation but that isnt enough save your money and youtube the game

En vez de crear una secuela del juego real, es decir, que avance el universo o la "Historia principal" Se fueron por contar una historia que a lo maximo podria demostrar algo de desarrollo del personaje...De verdad solo parece ser un DLC con pasos extra.
    Para ejemplificar, es como que en God Of War 4 en vez de presentar a la historia Nordica, haciendo enfasis con la relacion Odin - Freya - Baldur MIENTRAS QUE ADEMAS mostraban el cambio y desarrollo de la relacion de Kratos como un padre.
    Solo hubiera sido un Battle Royale de dioses de diferentes culturas y con un final donde el se vuelve padre.

    Buena jugailidad, mala, muy mala historia... y peor aun, ya que la historia la adecuaron asi forsozamente para dar un mensaje politico inclusivo. Pudieron dejar las mismas cosas y sacar algo mejor o siquiera decente.

    Mientras esta pudo ser : "La secuela donde Ellie se desarrolla como personaje y donde finalmente muere Joel encomendandole a ella una ultima esperanza para la humanidad (O cualquier X trama que sea de actual importancia)"
    En vez de eso, sera recordada como: "El juego donde una hija de un tipo X del juego anterior mata a Joel al inicio (Que Joel encima le salvo la vida a ella primero) y Ellie que vio como la esta lo mata va...y la perdona...Ahh y resulta que la chica era trans"

    Como lei por ahi, incluso si se ahorraban todo lo progre, sigue siendo basura, la pesima y mal aprovechada muerte prematura de Joel es un claro ejemplo...Abby es un sin sentido, perfectamente podrian adaptar la historia para que en vez de ser hija del cirujano de las luciernagas, alla sido hija de cualquiera de los humanos que mataron a lo largo del primer juego.

    Forced to follow and be followed by a cast of unlikable and uncompelling characters. I felt more of a connection with the horse in the game than the supposed romantic interest. Overall, I don't think I've ever been more frustrated by the decisions of dev studio before. A real let down of a story.

The gameplay is decent it has some interesting stuff yet it doesn’t feel like you are exploring and tends to get boring in a point, the story overall is just bad, the way they killed joel was simply infamy, taking out such a legendary character in a dirty way, they didn’t make any justice for the character, also abby which is one of the playable characters is completely un relatable like you don’t even know why you should play with it, the lgbtiq thing is okay however it feels a little forced but mostly because of the needs of the company to let everyone know how inclusive they are even though no one gives a F about it, but it doesn’t affect negatively the story, however its not a big deal though the real problem its the main plot and the way they told that story and how they ended it. The ending its just an insult, and literally its like spitting in every single thing that the franchise did good with the original story, its just outrageous. I don’t recommend you buying this game at all, don't waste your money and time on this, its not worth it better save up that money for college ps5 xbox series x or other games but not this trash.… Expand

    I can't describe how disappointed and angry I was after seeing this preposterous story. Neil is the most irresponsible and shameless writer I've ever seen. How much I love TLOU, how much I hate TLOU2. Political right won't bring equality or reconciliation, it will only fk up everything and bring confliction.

    Probably the worst story a game ever had. Gameplay is pretty much the same from the previous title.
    The ending is terrible, and it was infuriating having to go through all these hours of gameplay just to say I played it.

    Garbage... It’s really sad, TLOU part 1 was actually kinda good, can’t say the same for this piece of ****

    The game is so bad do not waste your money. They had no idea what to do with the story and had to pay off the entire media to get some of their money back that they had lost during the production of the game. Naughty dog has ruined their image and will most likely no longer be a game studio after this game. Watch a let's play or a stream instead of buying the game and save yourself some money.

It was a major disrespect to him. I don't think this game is catering to the SJW's. It has been known that Ellie is attracted to women since the first game. The second part of the game was just garbage. I don't like Abby's character, and not because she might be trans. It's because of the way she was written, how we are supposed to feel bad for her, and some spite just because she killed Joel. The ending was absolutely horrible. What happened to Ellie? We may never know. I'm hoping they come out with some kind of DLC or something so we can know what happens in the end. Ellie deserves a good ending, so I hope she'll make up with Dina. The graphics and gameplay are just beautiful, but the AI is still pretty bad.

    I don't really like the maps as well as there are so many places that looks 90% the same or have to revisit again and again.
    The story is just a nightmare. I simply would not want play as Micah to learn his background( and don't get to kill Micah either) after Arthur is dead in RDR2 and half of this game is exactly about that. Forced and disgusting cutscene are just icing on the damn cake.    … Expand

    Imagine waiting 7 years for this, the story is absolute trash. Some people might be upset about the agenda they're pushing, but for me this is just bad writing. There are plenty of female, minority, or gay characters that I love in other games. Overall, this game fails to deliver a real ending/coherent story and felt more like filler rather than a proper sequel.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
