    What sickens me already is the response by the paid critics calling the mass user scores "russian bots" like they have so many, many times in the past, when they forget they, themselves, are paid to give games perfect scores. That aside, Neil Druckman bullied Amy Hennig out of the company to create a game experience that I can't describe as a game, because it's not fun. The story forces you to make some of the worst choices possible along a very, very linear pathway, and then purposefully making you feel bad for doing it, despite the fact they give you no choices, no alternatives whatsoever. The gameplay and graphics are solid enough, but those are bare necessities, not a feature. What makes things even worse is that not only was the game leaked, but all the leaks turned out to be worse than what was described. I will not go into spoilers here, but if you're looking for a game with endearing characters and gripping revenge stories, I recommend playing something like No More Heroes 2 over this game.… Expand

    In my opinion this game is amazing , the story clearly upsets people but that’s the point , when writing a story or a film you can play with the antagonist/protagonist point of view but when you are forced to play as the one you may loathe you are pushed into empathy (hopefully) and clearly some of the reviews show they took issue .     Visuals are fantastic, gameplay is engaging. These are vital for video games, however The Last of Us is known for having an amazing story. This does not have an amazing story, at best a bad story.

    This game is great having alot of fun with it. Looks beautiful. I loved the first one and this is there with it. So many salty snowflake xbox players just giving it a bad rating because they dont have any good exclusives is sad. That's what happened with Days gone. Do what I did dont listen to the ratings just play the game yourself and you will enjoy it .

    La verdad tiene todo lo que un buen juego tienen que tener, los gráficos son excelentes, la jugabilidad bueno es igual a la de la primera entrega pero aún así es bastante cómodo, en resumen me ha parecido excelente y me apena muchísimo la calificación, no se puede criticar un juego entero por una parte de la historia, el mundo de the last of us es así, cruel y despiadado.

    I made an account just for this. Can't believe they did this to us. I should've watched reviews for this game. I really thought I didn't need too because of how great the first one was. Will rethink about purchasing Naughty Dog games from now on.

This game could have been one of the greatest story but chose the wrong path with a weak narrative. If any of the positive reviewers have ever played the first game with any shred of attention or passion for it then i really don't understand where they are comming from calling it great and inronically calling the story a supposed "masterpiece" ...

    Whereas the first game is unforgettable due to the tone it set, combining bitter reality with a theme of hope, and well established characters that we all grew to know and love, the second game almost spits on all that was built up, and presents us a world that doesn't correspond with the theme astablished, and characters who are anything but a continuation of what they were and are. Joel was going to be killed eventually yes due to what he did at the end of the first game, but the way they did it in the second is just purely **** writing. When it happens, nobody knows who the **** Abby is, and after that we are expected to play as her to only then after 10 hours understand who she was and why (taking the fact that she is a super bland character with no real draw or motives out of the picture for a second). A proper execution would have been for us to first understand who she is, and where she is comming from and then have it lead up to the climax of confronting Joel. Combine that with the fact that Joel is established in the first game as a very mistrusting person, always seeing through traps, people's intentions and even not trustinnlg Ellie with a switchblade (out of fear she might hurt herself that is). Having him walk into a base with strangers, giving up their names with their guard fully down is the last thing he would ever do. The writer took him out of character for an opportunity to kill him off quick for shock value, and to even be able to insert his cgi self spitting on his corpse, this whole seen and that move can therefore be seen as a spit in the face of the fans by Druckman himself.

    Its also just plainly bad writing to make it seem like Joel saving her life didn't matter **** to her ... if the writers had actually bothered to put some depth into it they could have made it into a longer played out internal conflict that would have made for an actual good story.

    Now the story is just about 24 hours of constant revenge while simultaneously having a political agenda shoved down your throat. It doesn't belong in the world that was so cleverly thought out and brought to life in the first game. The zombies are so absent from the story now that they could just as well have been removed, so now the suspense they created in the first game is reduced to them feeling like some annoying npc part of a puzzle to get to the next cutscene

    Its just a whole game long where the player has to carry out one person's revenge fantasy after the other ... there is no depth to it, just a rinse and repeat viewed from different perspective played by characters that feel like husks compared to the complexity they had in the first game... Also there is no exiting goal anymore ... no outcome to work towards, just revenge upon revenge upon revenge plot

    Also the tone is nothing like what we got in the first game. The first game was already set in dark bitter reality so i don't buy the whole "but its more like reality now" argument, but the thing that kept you playing and made the game so good was the underlying tone of hope that carried the characters through, gave the story its gripping aspect and made everything feel like it mattered. At the end of the second game there is nothing you have really accomplished. No goal was reached that meant anything, we are left with some dead people, the villain walking away and being better off than the protagonist and no sense of satisfaction whatsoever. Its just 24 hours of "i kill u cuz i mad that u killed this person"

    So no, the story was just a prime case of lazy, bad writing anf showed no respect for artistical integrity. Joels death was done poorly and in total disregard for who we got to know in the first game, and so was the rest of the story. Badly written, shallow, it really added nothing of value to the timeline and on top of that tried to be way to political for the environment it takes place in. At the end of this game, there is no sense of accomplishment or satisfaction, we are left with an empty feeling, wishing we'd have never walked into this game and had just let the story end where the first game did. hence the story in all its aspects really just is a bunch of horse****, and a slap in the face for fans of the first game.    … Expand

    Story is very weak and ridiculous. It look likes that ND killed Joel to have a excuse for making TLOU2.
    Joel’s characterizations is unbelievably stupid, he died for giving ND a reason to make TLOU2 and Ellie didn’t get her revenge at the end ! We played for hours, she went through hell and didn’t get the revenge, what a cliché!
    I’m very sorry to say this, i absolutely loved LOU 1 but the the only use LOU2 has is for creating memes.

The flow of the story is badly arranged and in no way do you feel anything for the new character that is trans. The ending is the worst gaming ending in history of gaming. It would work if Ellie wasn't a murderer, but she has killed dozens of people to get to the end. No person would not kill Abby the trans and Lev the asian boy.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is really hard to believe that this game is receiving such a hate mob. There really are only two reasons people are so upset with this game:
    1. Joel's Death
    2. Ellie has a girlfriend/Abby is a very muscular woman who was rumored to be trans... uhhhh maybe her sex scene with Owen will scare away all the alt-right bloggers for at least ten seconds or so

    First off I would like to say that if Joel dying automatically ruins the whole game for you and that you feel the need to write a negative review even before beating the game, which it appears thousands have, then I do not think you understand the harsh reality of the Last of Us Universe and more importantly the fact that this is all about ELLIE. Joel is not Master Chief or Superman. He is very mortal in a universe that is dangerous and **** up. Characters are more than good or evil. They are complicated like actual human beings, so when Abby kills Joel because he killed her dad and the Fireflies. You should understand that Joel wasn't necessarily a perfect person and his death was justifiable to Abby. If you think the death of your favorite character from the previous game ruins the game for you then stay on Xbox where Master Chief and Marcus Fenix always live. This entire game is about Ellie's journey essentially as Joel's daughter. She learns from her father's past mistakes and is in the process of forgiving him for what he's done along the way. Instead of blood-crazed revenge she lets Abby live at the end because she understands that Abby isn't some awful terrible person. Abby wanted revenge for her dad's death, and Ellie's ENTIRE story is literally her seeking revenge for Joel's (her father figure) death. They are the same people on opposite sides. Ellie realizes this, and that revenge is not the way to gain closure. People hate the fact the Joel died and they hate even more that the person who killed him isn't some cool mega-villain. Instead it is a complex person. The writing and set-up for all of this is perfect, and just because portions of it were leaked by some **** doesn't change that.

    Now, the bane of all conservatives enters the fray. Gay couples. If Joel shacked up with some woman nobody would say anything, but you better believe that when a gay couple is in a video game it is "agenda's being shoved down our throats." Grow up guys. It is called love and it is excellently portrayed here. Ellie's relationship with Gina is so heartwarming and at the end when it seems to be over it is devastating. Sadly, we live in a world that dismiss the game as soon as themes such as gay relationships enter the picture and that is incredibly sad.

    Lastly addressing another concern I see for this game, Abby. A lot of hate from the leaks were poured onto Abby's character because she killed Joel and is muscular so people assumed she was trans. She literally **** a guy in the game so people hating on that should actually play the game. I understand not liking Abby for torturing Joel. Everyone loved Joel. It was why his death summoned every high-schooler to there metacritc account to write a scathing review about the game's poor writing. "You can't kill Joel we love him!" The unique and amazing thing the Last of Us 2 does is give you a large chunk of game where you play as Abby, and develop alongside her. Abby's character arc is such a great parallel to Ellie's. I really would like you to dig deep in what both protagonists have learned by the endgame, and see how much they have changed. Abby is a great character who was given too much hate for murdering Joel and possibly being trans (There are a lot of people who hate that I guess.) The idea that having gay characters makes it pandering to a certain crowd btw is absolutely stupid. This is life and people can love whom they choose. Especially in a **** apocalypse.

    This game is a graphical masterpiece with an amazing soundtrack and terrific writing. Sadly, due to Joel's death and the divisiveness of views on LGBTQ relationships, the Last of Us Part II is being unfairly buried. This game is a perfect story that makes you want to laugh and cry, and it has many hard pounding sequences along the way. I implore anyone who loved the first game to play this. because This is a story of love and empathy.    … Expand

    It is so sad to see what studio naughty dog became after letting people lile anita sarkeesian in their creative process. I have always been of their game since crash bandicoot and jak and daxter is still to this day my favorite game. But man the last of us make me wanna cry about how politics changed the video game industry... RIP naughty dog, you were one of the best out here

Honestly, this is the most confusing game I've ever played, not because the story is complicated or not clear, the game simply left me not knowing what to feel, I loved some parts of it but I absolutely hated a lot also, the game play is mildly fun but it's not a huge innovation from the first game, and it isn't very diverse, but the problem of this game is not the game play, is the **** up parts of the story. The game lets Abby get away with all that she did but the main character just loses everything and just makes you feel totally hopeless in the end it's not a fitting or fair ending for Ellie because it basically reduces everything you did to nothing, even if the lesson it tries to teach is that "revenge is bad" but it does so in a way that feels so void and stupid, the game constantly expects you to feel something for the people that **** murdered Joel, and it is so absurd, I found myself laughing whenever one of Abby's friends were killed (I lol so hard when Manny gets shot). The whole Part where you control Abby could be put in a different game or a Dlc that had no connection to the main story because its so pointless when it tries to make you care about characters that you will probably hate in the first hour of the story . And if that wasn't enough then the game expects you to fight ellie using a character that don't care about, I literally let myself die to ellie several times expecting that would just trigger the end of the game but it is simply hell bent in making ellie suffer. And as if that wasn't enough the game then robs you of the choice to see Ellie's revenge through and it just forces you to forgive the girl that killed Joel and expects you to be sad about it instead of furious, they couldn't even let us have a choice and it shoves into you the "moraly correct thing to do" as if we hadn't done all this horrible **** throughout the whole game. It would be better that we forget the story of this game ever happened and just imagine a better life for the characters we grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie deserved better.… Expand

    Gameplay feels old and tanky. The open enviroments feel empty and unnecessary compared to the tightness and intelligent world building of the first game. They add some new elements to combat and exploration but not enough to make it feel fresh or interesting.

    This game is so depressing. The characters just moan and complain and are always sullen. There's no emotional payoff to either new or returning characters. An early scene is so needlessly cruel, callous, and undeserved from a storytelling perspective, that there's just no excitement to continue, only dread and a wonder at what horrible thing will happen next.

    In the first game, when Joel made certain decisions, there was a grey area, room to debate the ethics of his decisions because Joel did those things out of his connection to Ellie that was developed slowly during the entire game. The game was heavy and serious at times, but with room for punny jokes, lighthearted banter, and quiet moments of wonder. During key emotional scenes throughout that game, we always empathized because we had an emotional attachment to the characters (whether positive or negative) through good storytelling and build up.

    The story crescendos and climaxes in the sequel are shallow and undeserved compared to the storytelling that leads up to them. Characters sometimes make decisions seemingly just to shock the player, rather than basing them in logic or the personality of the character that makes them. I felt no connection to the new characters, and only a weird sympathy for returning characters, wondering what made them so dull and lifeless during the time between the two games.

    The early parts of the story (except the very first gorgous scene during the opening credits) do nothing to get the player excited to go on another adventure in this universe, and never improves. It's a slog with no enjoyment or payoff. It's like the developer just wanted to make us feel bad and hopeless and depressed.

    As a huge fan of the 1st game, this is such a letdown after so much anticipation.    … Expand

The environment is great, I love the open world aspect and being able to enter random buildings, all the new game mechanics are great too, the story is also amazing. I'm not disapointed at all, all the people who are eating the game bad before even playing it or just eating it bad because Joel died shouldn't be playing video games.     7 years since the first part of Last of Us was released. For me the best game i have ever played. After playing the second part, i know, Last of Us Part 2 is the perfect evolution from the first part. Its unbelievable how intens and immersiv a game could be. So many emotions. Hard Gameplay and hard Story. Best Game i have ever played. Thank you Naughty Dog for a trip like this

They can be so ignorant and arrogant because of their previous successes, what exactly the players expected and deeply trusted him. But they were betrayed.

    But why is that a so successful studio receives only 3.4 user rating? It cannot be just because of some lesbian action, it is because they destroyed everything, for the sake of forcing Druckmann's degenerate agenda!

    Disgrace to the videogame industry. First they delayed cause of the pandemic to potentially garner more profit, got leaked, and they are releasing it early. Played the game and it's even worse. They have to make all kinds of excuse, this doesn't justify how bad the story telling is. They are blaming nothing to blame but themselves.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
