It’s like they forgot everything that made the first one great. Every single character has zero depth, and some of them are forced down your throat. I did not found myself invested in any character, which sadly even includes Ellie. The best part of the game is the flashbacks. characters make stupid and unbelievable decisions, and the game is filled with them. I would list them here but the list is too long. I genuinely struggled to finish the game, that’s how bored and uninterested i became. it felt like it was put together at the last second, full of lazy ass writing and one dimensional characters. There is way too much to hate about this game. They constantly push the revenge is bad theme, and then totally sabotage it in the end. Lemme explain, abby kills joel because he murdered his father, and she lost all her friends because of it but still gets to live with his new ally, Lev. Ellie that lets go of the whole revenge, loses jessie, dina leaves her, gets her arm broken, almost gets beat to death, murders people and a pregnant woman that continue to traumatise her, ptsd and two fingers. Oh and tommy **** hates her too. It’s like she lost everything and she was the one that let go of the revenge. First one was a timeless masterpiece, and should’ve been left alone.… Expand

They killed Joel and made him and Ellie the partial antagonist of the last game. Then even better, Ellie doesn’t even get revenge. At the end, she let’s Abby go for God knows what. And also, the LGBT agenda is fine by me, but this is not a place it belongs. Something can not have gay people in it, and it not be homophobic. I have met countless gamers online and talked to them about the push of the LGBT and they are hardily disappointed in this game. They are rationally disgusted with the idea that because of this age, everything needs to be gay appropriated. Like I said. Im perfectly fine with gays or trans people being a thing and having rights, but that does not mean you force it down the throats of people awaiting a game that should be Game of the Year.… Expand

The critic reviews made it seem like the first half of the game was Ellie and Joel oriented, but Joel dies in the first hour or so of playing the game. The trailers even outright lie to make it seem like Joel will be a part of Ellies path of vengeance when he pulls her away and asks "You think I'd let you do this on your own?" And later character swaps him with Jessie instead. Joel dying was expected, but it was so poorly done that it leaves a bad taste. Parts of the game came off as a teen drama. Dialogue about ex girlfriends/boyfriends, breakups, pregnancies, cheating etc. They've skipped ahead several years and you're expected to just already be connected to strangers. The character and relationship development is non existent. You spend most of the game chasing after Tommy with Dina and finding Joels killers, getting some revenge on the way and the toll it takes on Ellie, which is decent. When you finally get face to face with Abby the game just pauses and sends you back twelve hours to see her side of things. I knew you would be playing as Abby but I expected it to blend more seamlessly. Instead it feels like all of your progress is ripped away for the sake of sympatizhing with someone you've been hunting down and it's not done well. She comes off as self righteous and holier than thou. When you're finally done with her part you get back to the scene you left at and you're forced to fight Ellie as Abby. You shoot tommy in the face, beat Ellie and Dina almost to death, and then let them go. You get a short piece of Ellies life with Dina on a farm, rasing a child together. Ellie has severe PTSD over Joels death. Tommy comes in with info on Abby. He's now disabled and is separated from his wife. When Ellie isn't sure about going, he screams at Ellie for breaking a promise to him. Ellie ends up leaving Dina behind to find Abby, who's been captured by a group. Ellie is nearly captured by those same people and goes to their location to find Abby, releases her, fights with her and ends up letting her go, losing two fingers in the process. When she returns home Dina is gone and all of her things are in one room. She tries to play guitar, but it doesn't work as well. After a flashback of talking to Joel about trying to forgive him for lying, she is seen walking off in the distance. She loses everything for nothing and so does Tommy. The story is a 0/10 and the only thing that gets it a few more points is how gorgeous the game is and the one sentimental flashback of Joel taking Ellie to a dinosaur/space museum. That was the best part in the whole game and that's honestly sad.… Expand

The Last of us part 2 is a technical marvel in terms of gameplay, It’s a fresh spin on the old gameplay from the first game with new features such as going prone, jumping, suppressors, climbing and scaling walls using ropes, and cables. new enemy types such as the Scars who communicate by whistling, a very creepy and original type of enemy. on the infected side, we have the classic infected types return: Runners, Stalkers, Bloaters, and the extremely none chilling clickers. We also have new infected in the form of shamblers, a deadly new type of infected that explodes spores when it gets too close to the player. There are both new and old weapons, every one of them feel unique and different, and the beloved stealth aspect making a return. The graphics are 10/10, the gameplay is a 10/10 the voice acting and sound design is a 10/10. What hurts this game to it’s very core is the story. It is FAR weaker than the previous title, which received over 200 awards. Although not completely awful, it has a very confusing plot and a very sluggish 3rd act. Characters make choices that seem strange or even to the point of ridiculousness, which leads to unnecessary major character death, and a story with poor pacing, bad writing, weak motives, and an overall laughable ending. That’s not saying the entire game is horrible, the story has some great moments with Joel and Ellie in the form of flashback sequences, which really show how much they’ve grown. However these sections are too few and far between some of the ridiculous moments. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker once again kill the roles as Joel & Ellie with some of the finest voice work this generation has seen. To summarize, if you loved the gameplay of part one and are okay with your expectations being subverted, you will love this game, If you want to get this game because you fell in love with the story of the first game, I’d save your 60$ and look up a let’s play on YouTube. Nothing special in terms of story. A very disappointing turn out for a company held in such high regards when it comes to story telling. We all know that Neil Druckmann and the Naughty Dog writers are insanely talented, but the story for me completely misses the mark which drops the final rating for me to a 7/10… Expand

    It's sad that people aren't giving this game a chance after reading the spoilers. I know it sounds terrible at first, but it sets up all sorts of emotions later into the game and I love that. I really enjoyed the storyline front to back. Gameplay was as great as the first one. It's definitely worth the $60!

    The game is just perfect, it's wonderful visually and as for the story I don't even have anything to say, it made me question who I am, and for a long time I will still cry remembering. I can't think of any defects, this game really left a mark on me.

    Very disappointed, 1 step forward 10 back, GFX are great, action and stealth are sub-par at best, and wow the story? did they fire the whole writing department?

    No way this game is worth all the 10/10 media reviews not going to be trusting them again any time soon.

Characters in this game make decisions that they would never even THINK about making in the first game. It's like the people who created these characters, forgot how to write their own characters?

    Everything else is on par with the first game (maybe even a little better sometimes) and the difficulty settings are GREAT and you can tweak elements of the game to your liking. They give you the ability to adjust minor things like how plentiful supplies are, how accurate enemies are etc. etc. I hope other developers take note of this in the future and incorporate this into their games. it's so rare to see customization like this and allows you to basically create your own experience.

    I honestly would have scored this game lower if it weren't for the slight game-play improvements, better graphics and the difficulty customization options.

    The story is the most integral part of this experience though and it doesn't even come close to matching or surpassing the first story, so i can't in good conscious give this a higher score.    … Expand

When I'm watching the last episode of game of thrones I was having a mental breakdown like the hell break lose I was sad and angry at the same time I was asking my self What happened to my beloved complex multi layer characters what happened to deep meaningful surprising rational storyline I can't believe what I have witnessed  with my eyes and This horrible feeling strike me today my beloved video game the characters that I loved so much over the years act so irrational the plot is antiqued and the gameplay stretched to 25 hour's and other characters is so tedious and boring as if they all end up dead u wouldn't care less The whole game gather around go from point a to point b And do it all over again Kill or bypass enemies and go to another location over and over again For Animations and visuals is top notch one the best in the industry but we don't play last of us for gameplay or geraphics we play it because we so attached to character and it's cruel world and beautiful well thought written story and deep humen relationships but the story here is horrendous Ellie keep making so many irrational decisions that makes my head hurts  she is so unbelievable selfish it feels like I'm watching game of thrones mother of dragon last season all over again Whole thing is so cringy and super clishe revenge story.  last of us 1 storyline was unique you see the beauty and ugliness in this world and character's interaction and decisions all makes sense but here in last of us 2 nothing makes sense and storyline are full of Holes and leave my questions in the air.

    This sequel is more like a survival game than the continuity of the first one. It's less a Naughty Dogs narrative game, and more a video game. And i think this is the way it should be, like the path they took for The Lost Legacy.
    Perhaps the story is not very interesting between the two girls.

Now some parts are uninteresting to some but you have to be open minded and understand these new characters and you will actually like them. This game is an EXPERIENCE. Not just a fun game. From the music to the character development of Joel and Ellie. To just the atmosphere of the game. Everything about it was truly a masterpiece. That's what makes The last of us 2 such a let down of a game. From the trailers that were released it made it seem as though Joel would have a pretty large role throughout the game which we come to find out is a complete and utter lie. The way he was killed off within the first hour or so in the game makes it feels as though they didn't care at all about what made the first game so special. It isn't the fact he died because life isn't certain in a post apocalyptic story. It's the way in which he died. Joel a man so skeptical that it took Ellie almost being raped and murdered before he started to open up that guy willingly goes with Abby and tells not only her but the rest of her people his name and his brothers name. Which doesn't even make logical sense if you know his character from the first game. He is then murdered by Abby after you've had to play as her which is also a slap in the face to alot of fans. But it gets worst. You then go on this revenge trip with Dina to try and find the people who murdered Joel only to let the killer go at the end because of some moral thing after you spent the entire game killing countless people to find her. The only reason I can think as to why the characters were done this way is to push some sort of Anti man SJW agenda. Which is sad to say but it's the only explanation as to why they destroy most of the male characters in the game. Another aspect is the heavy LGBT stuff throughout the game which I don't care about but it's definitely very noticeable. It's just sad that this game was more of a political statement instead of a proper part 2 to the greatness that was The Last Of Us. For the people saying doesn't listen to the haters please stop. You can't tell people how they should feel about a game they spent 7 years waiting for completely trashed the fans. It's perfectly exceptable to feel upset especially for them trying to force a political agenda on to customers. It isn't fair to try and silence someone's opinion just because you don't. agree. Also to Naughty Dog and Neil Drunkmann you should feel utterly ashamed of yourself for this game I'm truly disappointed as a fan and I will personally never purchase another one of your games ever again in my life.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried really hard to like this game, from the combat, the gameplay mechanics, even to the plot. However I found myself disliking the game, the more I played of it, from the death of Joel, to having to play as his killer and forced to sympathize with her character through some of her missions, and the ending of Ellie not even being able to commit to how far you have to take her character. It’s not good, the first few hours before Joel does, that was good, that felt like maybe Joel and Ellie would find a way to resolve their conflict. I get that what was done in the first games ending, had to have some resolution of its own, but doing it this way was not the way to go for me.
    I honestly feel like, this game lost its sense of joy in its dark world. I loved playing as Joel and Ellie in the first game, even how the characters developed. With the sequel, I just can’t get with the narrative and the ending just feels like a slap in the face to the whole adventure. Gameplay wise, I think mechanics could have been upgraded from what was done before, yet I feel like a lot of politics and hypocrisy are also to blame for what became of this game. So many people in industry want to praise this game instead of look at its flaws, and this game has some flaws in both narrative and gameplay. Graphics and animation are great, but they do not save a game if the story isn’t great with it. The character of Abbey that you play as, I hated having to play with her, it wasn’t even just her torturing Joel, it was her character as a whole. I’ll be honest, when this games trailers originally introduced back in 2016, I thought she was Ellie’s mother and that they would explain don what happened to her and how Ellie became immune to begin with. I played Left Behind, I know the story, but that would have been a great way to go and having Ellie and Joel go on an adventure that meshed the two storylines together where they meet in different time periods. The whole cult idea could still be utilized, but I think the game shouldn’t forget about its zombie roots either. I’m sad to see a promising series go this route, and really hope that if something like this is attempted again, that the characters you play as well as the story, aren’t so misguided and without life.    … Expand

    This game is incredible. The fact that the first Last of Us changed the history of games and TLOU2 continued this legacy just fine, for me is amazing. Not all sequences are good, but this one absolutely is. The hate it is recieving is, for sure, from people who didn't play it right. The cinematics, the ambientation, the soundtrack, the fact that even NPCs you fight against are not justThis game is incredible. EVERYTHING in this game is so balanced.

    You may and surely can be upset with some events that happened, I sure did, but this game was never supposed to be a fairy tale and neither the characters in it are flawless. Every single one of them are human, make mistakes and have their own mind and feelings. It's ok to disagree or wish that this or that could've been different, but call this game trash is just so unfair. The combat mechanics, the accessibility for people with disabilities (the game has full text-to-speech mecanism, for example), the models of the characters, their facial expressions, even their eyes are so detailed... you can't say this game is trash!!!! it's beautifully done, from its story all the way to its gameplay.

The last of us parte II è un opera semplicemente perfetta in ciò che vuole trasmettere, ci riesce alla perfezione, il giocatore proverà prima odio poi comprensione e dopo ancora rimorso per ciò che ellie farà, il gameplay è abbastanza semplice senza comandi particolari ma comunque tutt'altro che facile nei livelli di difficoltà più alti, cosa che comunque consiglio perché arricchisce il gioco in una maniera inaspettata grazie ad un IA superba.
    Ho notato solo che a volte ellie non prende perfettamente con mano gli oggetti ma spesso non ci si fa caso essendo comunque azioni di poco conto, per il resto nessun bug nessun problema di prestazioni anche su PS4 normale a parte il un problema a livello di rumore, insomma alla fine questo gioco potrà non piacere per alcuni fatti e temi trattati ma è impossibile non giudicarlo come uno dei migliori della generazione.    … Expand

Here are my pros and cons of what I think of this game as a whole

    Pros:

    1.) The gameplay is nice, fluid, and immersive to play

    2.) Graphics are nicely detailed and cinematically visual/appealing

    3.) Sound designs are amazing

    4.) The story is epic and unique in a way that you thought you could never feel with such a high variety of emotions

    5.) Acting is phenomenal and highly underrated

    Cons:

    1.) Part of the narratives in the story could've been changed for a better outcome

    2.) Some character developments needed some slight improvements

    Verdict: The Last Of Us Part 2 is a great game and originally I was gonna give this a 10 or 9 but with the story narratives making me feel bittersweet in some ways and thinking of what direction should the franchise go next if a Last Of Us Part 3 were to be made next in the future. Overall I give The Last Of Us Part 2 an 8/10 simply because of the fact that I still had fun playing this game and the experience that I had with the story was really interesting to see. The last thing I want to mention is that for this review on Metacritic I'm gonna put the score as a 10/10 since I want to be generous to show my support for the game and even though my actual rating is still an 8/10 for me but in my opinion, I thought this felt right to do. :)    … Expand

Ellie forgives the person responsible for killing her father right after killing hundreds in a murder spree. It's almost like they acknowledge that the people we killed are just NPCs and Abby is the only real human we can kill. No one cares if it's dudes **** each other. It's your **** story where the dude that survived 20 years by being careful, goes in a **** room with armed people like a dummy. The gameplay is the same mediocre shooting with occasional melee where you press 2 buttons, except they took out the enviromental puzzles whoop. The worst part about this game is that it has the Star Wars defense: "You didn't like it because there was a female protagonist" or "You hate the gays". Mediocre story that ****s on the original paired with boring old gameplay equal a bad game 10/10 IGN.… Expand

    The story as a whole tries to explore the concept of the endless cycle of revenge and why due to the nature of human beings is quite difficult to break. The killing of a very beloved character (Joel) is justified with decisions made in the past that led to our “new” protagonist to seek revenge for the death of her murdered father, however the idea is poorly executed with dumb actions the character wouldn’t even make in any situation, and thus it leaves aside all the storytelling and character development for him from the previous game.
    However, what really made me play all the way through were the astonishing graphics this game has to offer. The gameplay mechanics are pretty entertaining and are actually fun to navigate into.
    The ending is pretty lame because it doesn’t fit the whole storytelling from both games. While it tries to justify the decision made by Ellie in not killing the killer of her “father in law”, it does not take into account all the killing that has happened before even though Ellie is completely aware of it. Ironically, the senseless killing all characters committed turned pointless the message of the ending.    … Expand

    The big reason Abby exists is because Joel killed a no name character in the first game. Ellie is stopping the cycle of revenge by not killing Abby? She literally kills hundreds of people while just trying to get to her. It’s far too late for the moral high ground.

    The story as a whole feels like a big compilation of progressive inclusion. I get wanting to be inclusive, but it feels like they just had a checklist of people to include and taped some stuff together. If you’re going to do it, try to actually do it well.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm starting this review off by saying Part 1 was an absolute masterpiece, and a HUGE act to follow. Naughty Dog gave themselves a very tough job to follow this up 7 years later.

    And yeah don't get me wrong - the catalyst that started the journey for Part 2, left me in total shock and disbelief. So much so I had to ask my partner for an objective opinion that what I saw on screen definitely happened! But that doesn't make it all the more shocking and gut-wrenching, which is exactly what Naughty Dog were going for. It got me emotionally invested in Ellie's quest for vengeance

    The graphics and gameplay are a great improvement from the first game, but the message is clear. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Look at what happened with Uncharted 4 - the gameplay wasn't too different, but everything from the story to the character development was excellent

    I like all the characters in TLOU2 - they are instantly likeable (or unlikeable as villains!) and they all have some humanity behind them. Even what Abby did, there was an emotional motivation for that happening.

    So this story won't please everyone sure. But if you think of it as a story that has been crafted by the minds of an absolute gem in Part 1, and not the story you had 100% planned in your mind for Part 2, then this is truly an outstanding game that can't be missed    … Expand

Aunque es un juego lineal, parece un juego de mundo abierto por lo grande de los escenarios. Muchos se quejan de la muerte de joel y les recuerdo que la historia se basa en un mundo apocalíptico, aquí no hay héroes no porque eres el prota vas a estar vivo porque no hay héroes y no habrán, el juego es super realista en ese punto y otros se quejan sobre el final de que ellie no venga a joel y yo a qui les pregunto.... No pasó lo mismo en el primer juego?, al final joel no entregó a ellie, no sucedió lo que lógicamente tenía que pasar, pues en este caso es lo mismo, como va avanzando la historia la mentalidad del personaje cambia y la gente que solo critica para tirar mierda del juego les digo que se ven muy mal ya que ni siquiera tienen el juego o no lo han terminado, este es el mejor juego de todos y por eso le doy un 10… Expand

    I work at gamestop and we gave this game away for free because we over ordered but alot of our customer will not take it even thought its free. Now we have to recoup our lost by increasing the price of our other items. I hope the boss wont repeat the same mistake when ps5 come out.

    Story 4/10 - None lovable characters.
    Game-play - 6/10 Story killed the game-played for me.
    Graphics - 8/10 beautiful scenes.
    Replay-ability - NONE.

    Overall Score - 4/10 - would give away my copy of "Last of us 2" away for free, or just burn it.

And if they did, they wouldn't give it a chance. This has been my most anticipated game ever. The first one is my 2nd favorite game of all time but i genuinely think that this game is better. The story is better, the gameplay is leaps and bounds better and the characters are better. We barely know these new characters but I cared about them as if they were my real friends.
    The relationship between Dina and Ellie is everrrything. They have so much chemistry together. Even the relationship between Owen and Abby was very well done. And let me just say this. The fact that I cared about Abby after she did what she did is crazy. The writing for this game is just insanely good.
    The ending for this game is great. From Abby and Ellies fight scene all the way to Ellie walking away from the country house leaving her guitar there is masterful. So much to unwrap with this game. One of my favorite things about this game is the overall lesson. Don't let revenge consume you. Revenge is a big thing in this game. Abby got revenge for her father and that caused all of her friends to die and for her and her new friend to almost die. Ellie wanted to get revenge for Joel and she lost Jesse, her fingers, and almost Tommy, Dina and her life. She DID try to let it go but she kept remember Joel dying and developed PTSD over it so to put those nightmares to bed, she decided to go get that revenge and even that almost killed her. Ellie thankfully didnt go through with killing Abby and i think that was a good move. Even though Abby deserved it in Ellies eyes, she let her go.
    I also really like that this game shows that Joel was the real bad guy all along. Never thought that I would think of him as a bad guy but this game did it.


    This game uses flashbacks perfectly. I don't usually like flashbacks in my movies, games or what have you. It always feels like padding but here, it has a meaning and feels necessary to the plot. The last flashback we got..oopph what a tear jerker man.


    When Joel sang that song to Ellie in the beginning "If I were to ever lose you, I'd surely lose myself." That right there pretty much summarizes the game. Ellie lost herself. I love that little bit. The graphics are pretty great. The only con I have with them is that Owen didnt look as good as the others.


    Don't listen to the haters for this game. They just can't get over the death of Joel and completely write off the entire game cuz of it. They just wanted the same exact game as the first one. And to you homophobes out there that think just because theres a gay character in a game it means they're automatically pushing the agenda. **** you. Grow up. This **** should be looked at as normal. You are whats wrong with the world. Graphics- 9.5/10

    Characters just kind of wander from place to place, the interactions often leave you feeling dry, characters are paper thin, and on top of this it is littered with McGuffins and plot holes. It is a constant barrage of shock value moments, that leave you scratching your head in the end. This is a failure of storytelling on almost every conceivable level. TLOUS part 2 is how Not to do a Naruto revenge plot and is a wasted opportunity.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
