I bought the game for story based on part 1 and I lost hope and they made me more angry when they made me play the game as the character who killed the main character and ther is no bonding between characters they r just ther in the level no interaction nothing the graphics is good but what abt the story this is an story driven game It’s absolutely wrong on naughty dog Sony should have involved if something drastic story change and mercy is wrong when u love a character so much u can’t play the game as the killer that’s sucks and ruined but why the ending was mercy so now her nightmare r Goan for Eli **** I hate this game the game play is good but plz never create a story so drastically worst like this very bad experience I am not an Xbox fanboy I play only ps games from ps1 I am only bought Sony till date because they gave me story and amazing experience plz don’t make another mistake like this… Expand

    For a lover of the first game in the series and a major follower of The Last of Us, I found this game rather disappointing. If you want to get slapped in the face by an agenda driven plot this is the game for you.

    Одно дело, когда темнокожий герой подходит для игры/ фильма (например, Блейд), а другое дело - везде впихивать без причины черных, геев и прочее непотребство. ЗАДРАЛО!!!!!!!
    Про геймплейную нудятину я уже молчу. Геймплея нет как такового. Можно похвалить только художников, аниматоров, которые как видно трудились в поте лица.    … Expand

A parer mio, gli autori hanno rovinato Joel, devastato psicologicamente e fisicamente Ellie, ridicolizzato Tommy e tanto altro! Incredibile. Di fatto, gli eventi del secondo capitolo, potevano essere compresi, accettati e discussi in altro modo, se questo fosse stato un gioco a se stante o magari, se la trama fosse stata diversa o sviluppata in modo da dare al giocatore una scelta multipla e non far vivere ""passivamente"" una narrazione irritante e, per certi versi, deludente. Vi sono molti bug (che probabilmente fisseranno) ma nelle fasi stealth mi sono trovato in difficoltà. La musica è eccellente grazie al maestro Santaolalla e altri.… Expand

Everything else... is just the Death Valley, the Killing Fields, the Plains of Sorrow. A video game is supposed to be entertaining; to me, TLOU2 is anything but.     I love the graphics just didn't care for the story. I would had make it a 3 but all the stuff going on. It is a fun game just a bad story that need to be fix. They need to fix all the bots. Just work on these platform to take out all the positive and negative bot reviews, and being called a hate for lbgt for not liking these story line is stupid. I'm rating this game low because the plot of this game and character development is garbage. While the graphics are beautiful and they did improve some of the game play mechanics, I didn't like Last of Us as a series for the gameplay. It was all about the characters and their adventure. They totally ruined that by killing off characters you care about. They make you dislike characters, then play as them. They kill off characters left and right where you literally like no one and don't have fun playing. The worst part is the ending. Wow. Such garbage. There is no payoff. Poor storyline ruined this game, killing Joel off is the first of the big mistakes this game made killing off the best character is just **** the entire games story was completely pointless you spend the entire game trying to kill Joel’s killer only to let her go in the end. I didn’t have a problem with the lesbian relationship, but the transgender character is a joke I think that your “gender identity” is the last thing you should be thinking about during a zombie apocalypse there are bigger problems to deal with. The only saving grace of this game was the visuals but the gameplay was the exact same as the first game just adding a few things, if they want to make another game they should make brand new characters and do it from the start of the apocalypse and get a new director telling the haters to **** off, no you **** off games are not about pushing a political agenda.… Expand

    No multiplayer that the first Last of Us had. I couln't play anymore after just playing 45 minutes into it. They need to remake the events on this game. Graphics and gameplay don't matter if the story completely turns you away.

    This game has astonishing attention to details, graphics is just great. And that's actually that. No more memorable characters we loved from the first part. Motivation of characters is broken. Story is broken. Abby is disgusting and was probably first modeled as a male character. 2/10 just for graphics/audio design.

    Sincerely, i am a very dependable game. I waited for years for this game and was totally disappointed on the direction the game took, totally losing the origins of what was the first game. Repetitive gameplay, but the only positive point is the graphics, so i wont give it a 0.

In my opinion, if Joel was going to die it needed to be at the end, and maybe have us play as Abby during the first part of the game. Have us play as Abby going through the aftermath of what Joel did at the hospital to see and empathize with her to see from her pov. If you try to force us to feel bad about a character then that emotion that you're trying to "extract" from us fails wonderfully and that's exactly what happened in this game. Flipping back and forth through years at time between characters is redundant and extremely repetitive.… Expand

The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is improved from the first game (particularly through the options you are given to get around the "battlefield"). I enjoyed the music and the game leaves plenty of optional collectibles/letters/pictures etc that you can rummage for to help immerse yourself in the game    I loved this game... until I didn't.

    The Last of Us 2 does a lot of things right. I enjoyed the music and the game leaves plenty of optional collectibles/letters/pictures etc that you can rummage for to help immerse yourself in the game world if you choose, with the usual level of detail you can expect from Naughty Dog.

    Here is the part where I explain why the heck I gave the game such a low score when it has all of this going for it.

    The thing about Metacritic User Reviews is that they are, in general, based on the user's overall experience with the game. Many serious critics will grade different sections of a game individually and then average them out, but we aren't getting paid, we can just say how we "felt" about a game. Just like a game doesn't have to be absolutely flawless to be given a 10, a low score doesn't necessarily mean the game was an unplayable mess either.

    Which brings me to the story. **** I will try to avoid major spoilers, but obviously you will pick up a bit here or there so this is a heads up*****

    For the first half of the game you play as Ellie, who is trying to get revenge on a group of people who have wronged her. Like in the first game, you are typically working with an AI companion (there are a couple who join her at various points). On the whole this worked well. The characters and dialogue were pretty interesting and you had a clear goal to work towards while you mow down zombies and bandits etc.

    Just as you are nearing the end of your journey, and the payoff you had been building towards, the game pulls the rug out from under you and makes a complete U-turn.

    Suddenly the clock is rolled back to the beginning, but this time you are Abby, a member of a rebel group called the WLF, and one of the antagonists Ellie is after. This change-up lets you see the story from the "bad-guys" perspective, helping you understand what was going on behind the scenes while you were playing as Ellie. It also goes on for WAY. TOO. LONG.

    I feel like the developers gambled a bit here. How well the game lands for you seems to depend almost entirely upon how you feel about Abby, because like it or not, you are stuck with her for half the game. Unfortunately for me - I did not.

    Abby is a supremely unlikable character to start, and the game doesn't really evolve her character enough to get over it. Sure her goals are understandable, but that doesn't make her intriguing, it just makes her not crazy. Billed as her group's "top killer" she lives up to that rep throughout her arc, murdering just about anything she comes across and callously chuckling to herself at the misfortune of others when she reads through those depressing collectible notes left behind by unfortunate zombie victims.

    Eventually Abby does something nice for someone, out of guilt, but it really isn't nearly enough to wipe away the awfulness she started with and certainly wasn't enough to get me on her side over Ellie, who we've spent 1.5 games (plus DLC!) getting to know.

    The end result is a whole half of a rather long game that is an absolute slog to get through. My desperate need for closure kept me playing to finally see the ending the game had been holding hostage on me, but I wasn't enjoying myself.

    I love story driven games and I enjoy when they make me "feel" things. I don't believe games need to be happy all the time to be a good story. My issue was, I wasn't really feeling much at all besides boredom. I just wanted Abby's part to be over. If there had been a button prompt that gave me the option of skipping the gameplay entirely to just zip through Abby's cut-scenes I would have taken it. The game literally put me to sleep at one point, in the middle of the day, and it was such a stark contrast to the first half of the game, where I didn't want to put my controller down to stop the ride.

    Ultimately this is why I ranked it so low. This game made me miserable for roughly 20 hours to the point where I was mostly playing out of stubbornness. What good are those wonderful graphics, the work and detail put in, if in the end, I'd rather NOT be playing the game?

    This doesn't mean You personally won't like the game, but I certainly can't recommend it.    … Expand

    To keep it simple if you hold any reverence for the characters in the first game or it's themes, don't go near this sequel. It retcons crucial elements of the first game and the characters are a shell of their former selves to serve as vehicles for a disjointed and muddled revenge plot.

I give it a 1 because the graphics are amazing but I would rather play the first one with minecraft graphics than this one any time. The story gets a 0. You would think in 2020 writers would get past plot armor and clichés. Not only is the story bad, it also doesn't make sense. In the first game Tommy almost doesn't lets his own brother enter Jackson and in this game he just goes "Yeah, down the hill, come with us, restock.. might as well tell you our patrol schedules. This is Joel. In case you are wondering he used to smuggle things and oh yeah, years ago the fireflies were about to kill his daughter so he killed them first. I am telling you this because there are millions of Joel in America. Wouldn't want to kill the wrong one". Same thing goes for Joel, reluctant to help 'injured' guy on the road but somehow trusts a random girl the same size as he is...
    Also, knowing their past as hunters and the fact that Joel literally killed a hospital full of fireflies they shouldn't openly say their names to random people and in the middle of a huge group of them while being alone and outnumbered...
    When Ellie opens the door and sees Abby beat Joel, she could easily shoot her but no let's look at her and go in without checking the room or anything.. as if Joel and Tommy could be taken out by a single random woman..
    The entire story should not take place. You would expect mistakes from beginners but not people who survived in a post apocaliptic world for years and learned their lessons. Aside from the plot holes, the characters just aren't interesting. When Abby killed Jesse I was just 'wow' but could not care less. Same would have been the case with Dina. There is no emotion. Abby's story does not make you like her no matter how many dogs she pets. "She changes wow bla bla" yeah well, Ellie to Abby "she is pregnant... Abby-GOOD".
    Trust me when I tell you that I liked the Joel and Ellie flashbacks more than I did playing as Abby but those kinda don't fit in the way the story is told.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. you wait 7 years to play your beloved character and then at the first 2 hour when even tutorial is not finished they kill him in a way that he was some non playable character that we barley remember from the first game.they just lift him by his collar spit on him and toss him out. after being angry you decide to wait so that maybe they give you a satisfaction that was worth seeing him die but what directors wanted that satisfaction and the big ending to be is is "ending the cycle of violence" which is really hard to understand. as ellie you kill more than 100 people to get to kill a specific person and when you get to her you don't kill her? the other half of the game which you play as abby you don't connect with her and feel any sort of sympathy with her. it just doesn't work no matter how hard you try. it was story better if remained untold. i also want to say that being a game that had a "lesbian female lead" didn't play any role in ruining the game. i actually think the dina-ellie relationship is the highlight of the game. the reason its so bad is the narrative,plot holes and being a completely unnecessary irrelevant unrelatable story that was better to remain as a mere idea… Expand

    Pathetic. Proves naughty dog can't make a game and cannot make a movie. I loved the story of the first game. Hated the gameplay. This is terrible gameplay bad story. What were they thinking? It looks nice and the actors are good. I'll give them 1 point for that. Ruined the series for me.

This part has nothing to do with the first part. it's humiliating for us players because we didn't expect it like that at all. We have to play the killer of our favorite player who has never been introduced and are forced to feel empathy even though we hate her all the time. And especially the end was the last drop that overflowed the barrel. I could still write a lot but the field is too short for that. But the worse is the characters. The main characters exist to prove points, they are there for the writer's convenience. During the gameplay, it gets even more evident that politics were behind the creation of this story, and that characters were molded into stereotypes so that that story could be written. The secondary characters are entirely forgettable.
    I finished the game only because I don't like to leave stuff undone.

After Joel is killled and you are forced to play his killer I felt many things: disappointment, anger, disgust, betrayal, and sadness. It wasn’t just the fact that Joel was gone. It was that you are this character for half the game... and you have to beat the **** out of Ellie with this character... then so you are forced to feel anything positive for this character they force you to see the backstory of people you are killling as Ellie. The directors/writers trying to “teach” us that even the “villains” are human and maybe were created this way felt so disgusting... they could have created a new game with new characters for this wasted idea. This is upsetting me to the point I can’t even finish my point.. but trying to make people dislike characters we grew to love in the first game by way of a forced story isn’t a great, and will only make us hate you for it. It’s like if all the sudden we play a new uncharted game and we kill Nathan Drake then play as his killer... no one wants to do that. These devs literally crapped all over fans with this one. Abby's father totally deserves his death, cause if you are ready to take someone's dauther life without asking, be ready to die from father's hand. The reason why I've droped the game is that gamedevs force me to play for f*cking **** person for 13 hours without any reason. I don't care at all what life she had after/before father's death. If only author would have some imagination and probably take and spend some more time to think about plot, it could be 10/10 game. (Some ideas, imagine if Joel killed her siblings or parents that time, when he was smuggler. For example, Joel brings some medicine and Abby's father stole it for Abby's mother to heal, but Joel had to bring it back otherwise he might be dead and thats is what I've expected! 2 sides of dying world, where people live with only one rule "kill or die" and there are no bad or good, everybody just want to survive.     1. Hay más evolución en el personaje de Abby porque es un personaje nuevo y necesitan darle una gran trascendencia para que pueda rivalizar con Ellie en la historia y crear un escenario interesante
    2. Ellie "no evoluciona" tanto como Abby por lo primero y porque sólo al final "entiende que debía dejar a un lado su venganza" o se siente satisfecha con casi matar a Abby.
    3. Ellie no es que no "aprende" de la venganza, lo hace justo antes de matar a Abby. Abby gana y Ellie pierde, para mí. No logra matarla y Abby se va con su venganza cumplida. Ellie debió matarla y cumplir su venganza. Ese era su destino, lamentablemente igual que lamentables todas las matanzas en el juego. Yo creo que busca la venganza y la consigue pero está tan destruida y cansada que no logra concretarla y se detiene antes de matar a Abby porque con la paliza y la pelea ya ha llenado su deseo de venganza. El casi matarla le ha logrado llenar esa necesidad de redimir la muerte de Joel y decide en el último minuto, movida también por la pesadumbre de semejantes masacres en las que ha estado involucrada hace sólo poco tiempo, soltarla. Ya no va a buscarla pero la ha casi obtenido. No creo que crea en que debe detener su venganza y yo tampoco creo en detener una venganza así. Cuando te matan a un padre es ir a buscar al culpable hasta matarle y eso es lo que ha hecho Ellie, lo ha cumplido hasta el último segundo y ha parado sólo ahí, en un instante límite, y eso es lo que marca el trofeo "Hice lo que tenía que hacer" aunque eso le desolara, ese era su destino.
    4. No es un gran juego. Es un buen juego, si quieren hasta un muy buen juego pero no un gran juego. Es muy amarillista, usa mucho la violencia, es terriblemente e innecesariamente cruel con niños, embarazadas, perros. Es un pasquín de juego. Un juego así no puede ser un gran juego. Ni siquiera es disfrutable, es muy desagradable, solamente glorificado por quienes alaban ese nivel de violencia y la guardan dentro. Para las personas con mundo emocional normal este juego no es ni siquiera disfrutable, es un empalague y un sentimiento de contrariado constante, es muy agrio, y muy poco de él es realmente disfrutable. Para mí, no es ni un muy buen juego, sino uno bueno. 7, 7.5, y si estiramos un 8. Yo me quedo con el 7. El querer florear las cosas o dorar la píldora con "esto es un elemento distinto a las demás historias con el que han arriesgado mucho y eso tiene mérito" no me suma para divertirme ni disfrutar la historia, pavo, se lo digo en general al que piense en darle vueltas al juego analizando las cosas que puedan o no tener mérito que haya hecho distintas y por eso quiera subirle la nota al 10, que dejen de estar metidos en guerras de consolas, joder. Es como el jazz de los méritos gráficos de detallitos en los escenarios fotorealistas, son pajas mentales sin importancia. Este juego es como un trabajo malo, pesado, muy pesado. 7.

    Algunos Youtubers que son muy negativos con el juego en este caso tiene razón en varias cosas y en otras discrepo como decir que la historia es una basofia, no lo es, es buena, pero no es una gran cosa que podamos decir: concuerdo con ellos en que la música es casi inexistente, anti melódica y ambienta, pero lo hace de una forma muy tangencial y muy poco satisfactoria, casi genérica. Obviously the way that joel's character was handled was downright stupid.. Its like you kill kratos in the beginning of the game. They forced you to play as Abby(which obviously is the most boring character in this franchise). You could actually notice that they tried to make her gameplay more interesting with all the weapons and boss fights but failed miserably. After wasting more than 20-25 hours , you get a messed up and unsatisfying ending. Naughty dogs -just stick to uncharted franchise; that's all you are good for.     I loved my playthrough of the first game. I was invested in all the characters and deeply cared for everyone. Instead, Naughty Dog spent the entire second half of the game insulting the main characters and demonizing them unjustly while trying to pass of the villains as some morale judges who are right in every decision they make. Instead you should have used the second half to develop Tommy further or given us more context into the whole Ellie/Joel/ Dina relationship.

    That is my whole problem with the game. I don't care about politics, LGBTQ+ controversies. I am not insulted by any of that, I just hate the way the story was developed and how I regret wasting my time speedrunning the second half.    … Expand

    Pretentious story telling ruined a good gameplay and amazing visuals, that's the reason I only give it 1 point.

    Took me more than a month to complete do to not liking the game; repetitive, one dimensional & forced story, complete garbage, avoid it at all cost, you'll lose some money and time with this "game" in my opinion :(

The gameplay is mostly copy paste from the first one and a sequel should be an upgrade. But that's not what everyone bought this game for. They bought it for the story. Because they liked TLOU characters and wanted to see a continuation of that. But this game feels like some anti fan fiction made by someone who down right hated the original. They pretty much throw the characters from the first game under the bus and spit on their memory. The make a hard push for you to like there new ones. Who are down right bland and dumb. Oh and Abe the main character they want you to love is just a horrible person.

And I was expecting and waiting for Part 2 as I was diving and I run out of oxygen, and Part 2 was my oxygen. But after playing Part 2, I had such bad fillings about it. I had a filling that I was betrayed. That place where oxygen was suppose to be - it was none. This "gay" think is spoiled a lot of titles of 2020, but it's not only for this. Story for me was bad.     talk about a waste of time. make you dive into a world of garbage. only people that love this game are so blinded by the the first game. should have never made a second. most hyped up turd of all time. please don’t make another one. only good thing about this game is the graphics and the new mechanics

The ending is a very good example of this, it’s laugh out loud ridiculous in its lack of logic.     Really bad writing. The story is extremely divisive among fans for good reason. I did not have fun playing as Abby for over half the game, and thought the story’s theme and attempt to teach us a lesson about why revenge is bad was halfhearted and lackluster.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
