    So here we are. The last of us part 2. I have been waiting for this game for 7 years. I bought a PS4 pro and pre ordered the game just so I could play it at its maximum potential. I avoided any and all leaks so I could go in with a fresh mind. The first game was possibly my favourite game of all time. I loved every last minute of it. Every character felt real and grounded. This games storySo here we are. The last of us part 2. I have been waiting for this game for 7 years. I bought a PS4 pro and pre ordered the game just so I could play it at its maximum potential. I avoided any and all leaks so I could go in with a fresh mind. The first game was possibly my favourite game of all time. I loved every last minute of it. Every character felt real and grounded. This games story was an insult to everything that made the first game so great. I at least gave it a 1 purely out of respect for the developers that worked so hard to make this game beautiful. But the story did away with everything that I once loved about this game. The true irony is that this attempt to force a so called progressive narrative has only served to alienate people and push them further away from a wanting a better more progressive future. This was a disservice to true representation in video games.… Expand

    I would give 0 just because ND made the deceiving trailers that tried to mislead ppl about the plot...... But the graphics and combat system deserve some points. Basically they treat the player who played tlou1 as if we all forget about how characters behave in tlou1 and some plots do not supported by good logic. That's why ND had to explain to public about some plots bc they have a lot ofI would give 0 just because ND made the deceiving trailers that tried to mislead ppl about the plot......     not only do we see Joel die, one of the most beloved characters in recent years, but we must play with Abby his murderer a lot of the time, almost kill Ellie and Tommy and in the end we can't get revenge and we let her escape after ruining Ellie's life. Really? Did they really think that people would like this? the graphics are super good and the gameplay is fine, the game had several bugs but as I said once more the important thing for me is the story and this story sucks.    … Expand

    Furious with the direction ND took. First, the game is far too long. Killing off the hero straight wasn’t an issue, it was hard to watch and set me up with hatred towards Abby and her crew of scumbags but it was fine for the story. Playing with Ellie and her adventure with Dina was engaging and fun. But then we gotta start playing as the murdering b***** Abby and I don’t want anything toFurious with the direction ND took. In the first game, it was a story about two people traveling across the country and Joel having a second chance at having a daughter. It was truly a remarkable game and perfect storytelling wise. But in the second game it felt like telling a message more than a story. The game was telling me “Revenge is bad” over and over again. With Joel killing Abby’s dad, Abby killing Joel, Ellie killing Abby’s friends, and Abby killing Jesse, and the most disappointing part about Ellie not killing Abby as soon a she saw her. Part 2 was a horrible disappointment and I wish tlou was a standalone game. It’s hard to make a perfect sequel after a perfect game. Gameplay wise it was fun.     I replayed the last of us remastered before starting this. I wanted to continue the story and now I regret playing part 2. Does any character have brains in this game ? Abby is the most hated character I have every played, the first fight between Ellie and her had pissed me off, and the ending was easily the worst ending I've ever played on a video game. It took the fun out of me playing when you travel through missions and you have to try to comprehend Exactly whats going on between the players. The ending was so confusing. I atleast expected elle to get revenge from such a a horrible character. The game even expects you to play as the character that killed joel. I had no sympathy for abby because it made no sense why we have to play as the villian. Akward sex scene by the way which involved infidelity and fetishin intentions. Overall, i couldnt understand why neil drukman had to do this alone. You know you cannot leave kids playing with knives because someone is going to get hurt. In conclusion, the game was a mess. I wish i can return it but i downloaded the game.… Expand

    The game, especially this story, is a big disappointment for me. The guiding principle of the Americans is always revenge. Too bad that the author was treated so badly. I would have loved to play her second part. These extremely good press ratings are probably attributed to the sjw. Btw my criticism has nothing to do with playing women. I also played tomb raider and horizon and found them great.

Игра не затянула, игра уныла, то что все говорят о деталях, по-моему полнейший бред. Игра не заслуживает внимания.

    Логики в игре нет, крайне много раздражающих моментов в которых нет логики. Никаких изменений в мире за это время. Придираться можно бесконечно.

It's truly sad that they threw away what they built up in the first game and did to the characters, just Joel alone acted completely out of character. It could have been a great, beautiful game but what they made it out to be is another mainstream, political agenda forced upon us. I wanted to break my game pad at the moment when the scriptwriters are forcing me to play for Abby. I have no empathy for this character. She is not disclosed at all.

    Tenía tremendo potencial, pero quedaron en lindos graficos, no innovaron en nada, (como suele hacerlo naughty dog), y la historia, fuera de toda excusas de "fobias", como quiere hacerlo ver Druckman, está mal organizada, te obliga a jugar con un personaje con el que no quieres jugar, ni comparado al carisma de los personajes de la primera entrega.

    Waited so many years for this trash fiesta. First half of the game is decent, then they make you play as Abby for 10+ hours helping people you don't care    Completely duped! Мое личное мнение графон ничего не значит. Геймплей - нудятина. Если раньше соотношение бой/лутание/катсцены были довольно таки хороши, то сейчас - провал. Куча бесполезных боев, от которых спать хочется, игра просто не доставляет удовольствия. Теперь самое интересное, сюжет. Начнем с первого недовольства. Как так можно было слить главную фигуру первой части? Слили как какого то третьесортного бесполезного персонажа, а я напомню, что на нем и Элли завязывается сюжет первой части и НА ИХ ВЗАИМООТНОШЕНИЯХ У ЭТОЙ ИГРЫ ПОЯВИЛИСЬ ФАНАТЫ. И что мы видим? Элли стала мясником, который кромсает все на своем пути и не думает, игра надоела еще на 3 дне в Сиэтле. Дальше не хочу на эту тему писать что то, истинный фанат уже и так понял, что все запороли. Не советую покупать эту игру, никогда, если интересно, посмотрите прохождения, поможете стримерам отбить деньги за этот отход жизнедеятельности человека. Если выпустят 3 часть, никогда в жизни не куплю ее… Expand

Visually stunning, fluid gameplay, visceral, and surreal. I was 100% engrossed through the first half. The second half.... How does that meme go? " you had us in the first half" lol. Honestly though, this hurts writing this. I loved the first game. All through the 1st half of this game, I was completely engrossed. Such disappointments in ,story decisions and executions. Abby is a terrible character. We're we supposed to,feel,something for,her? All,I felt was let down. I get what they were going for...and it didn't work. For you it might. I would recommend it. If you are new to the series. Try it out. If you are, or were invested in the first one. Be warned. Disappointing man. Damn… Expand

    Very disappointed, the graphics are pretty good which should be expected at this point of the time. Game play has some nice new stuff but I really do not feel is sth groundbreaking, The story is horrible. I would give a 6 if my disappointment was not so great. To sum up. Average game relatively enjoyable but gets boring at some point.

    To begin with, the trailer that was released nearly 3 years ago about Ellie singing is misleading and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game. In TLOU part 2 you wont get to kill or encounter fireflies (you do encounter former fireflies but whatever) and the new enemies of the game are some random people you never heard of, that are introduced with the killing of the main character in the series. The rest of the game is about seeking vengeance featuring Ellie and Abby ?! One of the people you hate straight from the beginning.
    You then spend hours in the same city (whereas in the first game you would actually play out a whole year) over only 3 days and that's basically 90% of the game. What actually makes the game really unlikeable is the fact that you play as Abby (i have nothing against the character although its introduction was meant to make the player hate it) for nearly 9-10 hours to show you that she isnt all wrong after all but what do we care tbh ? At this point of the game, the devs are just trying to force the player to like a character he labelled as the worst thing ever few hours back.

    But that's the plot, it's up to everyone to like it or not (and i'm not even talking about THAT sex scene, you what what i mean, that was really out of place and unnecessary, or the end that's not only sad but also frustrating and really not rewarding to the players that spent hours on the game).

    What makes the game really bad (in my opinion) is that it doesnt make any sense from the very beginning and is a disgrace to TLOU. Let me explain :

    At the very beginning of the game, you discover Abby and it is made very clear that she's looking for someone (we quickly understand that she's looking for Joel). She then, by some miracle gets rescued by this one guy out of everyone that could be patrolling.

    ' I take a short moment to remind you that in the first game it is made clear that neither Joel nor Tommy are stupid in any way, it is shown several moments that Joel is smart and the reason he's still alive after all this time is because he doesnt trust easily (just see how long it took him to accept Ellie is immune, how he dealt with Henry and Sam, how he found out about the ambush etc...) Basically, this guy might no be a genius but he's smart enough to be cautious about people.

    Then after, he (and his brother) follows Abby to her camp and then settle there without being careful what so ever, enter in their place apparently unarmed (at least for Joel) and then walk out in the middle of a room before telling out loud his name. Then gets surprised people know about him and doesnt even try to draw his gun, no. The guy that we learned to love in the first game despite all the pain he causes around him and the fact that he lies about Ellie, all of that is gone because he's now turned into a dumbass. I'm not gonna lie, at this point of the game i was already done and I never felt this pissed in a story-based videogame before. I didnt want to play anymore because what was next was pretty straight forward and predictable, its about seeking revenge.

    Not only is this enough to ruin everything you built up with the main protagonist of the first game that is now regarded as some idiot that can't fight back and dies for the sole purpose of giving a reason to play the game, but everyone has no also turned into some Biblic good samaritan and every time Ellie / Abby could die, they are spared for no valid reason except that they are main characters. In the first game, it didnt take longer that seconds for Joel to finish off Marlene because HE KNOWS she would go after them, gosh they even made it a thing in the first game. But in part 2 nah, lets not kill the girl that pretends she'll kill us. Nah, lets not kill the girl that's friend with a pregnant woman. Nah let's not kill the girl that killed my beloved spiritual father figure, my friend after i just had to kill nearly 200 people just to get to her.

    Idk man, this is disappointing. Dont buy this game, it's a major let down. Lets just hope they wont ruin it any more with a part 3...    … Expand

    Very bad story, gameplay is same as first game. Witcher 3 graphics is better than this one and that is over 5 years old. Tried to stay away from the leaks to form my own opinion and was surprised to see mine is same as many others. Will be staying away from this studios bait and switch schemes from now on.

    This game is utterly boring and monotonous when compared to Last of Us ‘part 1’. The entirety of the games is spent as follows: go to an area, fight 5-10 people/ zombies, solve a simple puzzle, rinse and repeat for nearly the entire game.

    It is SO boring, the plot does not carry the weight of the game like 1 did, and the open areas would be a cool concept... if there was anything you could loot other than cloth, blades and ammo... who cares. I can’t believe that if they were going to do something as bold and polarizing as killing Joel they would also fill the game with boring repetitive sequences. I love getting to know Ellie, I love her as a character, but there needs to be more to this game. It is too repetitive... too boring to be standalone. There is absolutely no room for a sequel.

    This game is missing the heart that one had, it’s sad because it was my favorite game... 1 left me feeling something that other video games/ movies did not... 2 left me feeling disappointed.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to begin...the story of Last of Us II is a catastrophic failure. The reason for this is the same reason Game of Thrones Season 8 ended hollow, or why Star Wars VII-IX rang hollow. The reason is that the 'plot' does not 'earn' the story. In Star Wars, the characters don't evolve at all, they're just carried forward by the story and plot sometimes does and sometimes doesn't make sense in this regard. In Game of Thrones, Daenerys had every reason to burn the Red Keep to the ground and kill Cersei. The plot however did not give her reason to kill children and other civilians. But that's the story D&D wanted to tell so that's the story that got told, whether or not the plot supported it.

    Unlike movies and TV series however, what Mr. Druckman fails to remember is that Last of Us 2 is also an 'interactive' medium, which means that players do own their outcomes. Choice means players are invested in that outcome. Choice on how to navigate through a dangerous part of the game, choice on whether or not to throw the ball to the dog or outside the fence (as Abby), big choices and little choices. And in Last of Us Part II, key character decisions (such as whether Nora lives or dies, or Abby lives or dies, are critical to have the player 'engage' and feel responsible and accountable to the result).

    Let's take Joel as an example. He could have had a choice, either go back with the strangers he met in the snow, or part ways and trudge through Clickers with no ammunition and injuries. It's likely in both cases he'd have died as a result of the circumstances. At least in either case though, the player, not Mr. Druckman, are determining the outcome of their beloved characters. That's the difference between unidirectional media (movies or novels) and interactive media (Last of Us and Last of Us 2).

    Now Mr. Druckman might say that players had no more choices in part 1 than part 2. To an extent this is accurate, however in part 2 the stakes are a lot higher. The higher the stakes, the more opportunity players should have to be accountable for the outcome. Mass Effect (except the tail end of Mass Effect 3) did this brilliantly (and it too is a narrative game, so it can be done).

    Taking the interactive part out of the equation for a minute, there is 'plot' and 'story.' The story is what happens, and the plot are the events that lead us to the story's conclusion. (What happens? Joel dies would be a story). The plot, he is killed by someone who wants revenge or he is killed by clickers or he is killed by extreme cold etc. And each of these plot points have impacts on the characters who experience them.

    In one case, Ellie would blame herself for 'not' going with the strangers, in another she'd want revenge for what they did etc. The 'plot' allows for the story to advance. Without a plot, the story is not 'earned' and feels shallow or forced. That is what happens with Last of Us 2. Mr. Druckman forces characters to act against their own established modus operandis in order to artificially create plot that drives the story into the revenge/divisive brutal allegory that Last of Us 2 becomes.

    Unfortunately though, because a logical plot was abandoned to maintain the story that Mr. Druckman wanted to tell, Last of Us 2 is an abysmal tale of preaching about revenge, was rife with deus ex machina, and had a litany of plot holes.

    To you folks at Naughty Dog. It's not that Joel died, it's not even how he died, nor is it playing Abby for 10 hours that causes the frustrations among your most ardent fans. It's that the plot does not lead to those outcomes being earned or logical. The plot points you provided require suspension of disbelief, disengagement by the player, or acceptance that the characters' victories in Last of Us 1 were hollow and pointless and thus, the player's time invested in that game was meaningless. See where this is going?

    That may be the story you wanted to tell, great. It's your IP. Just give your players enough credit and have your writing team work a bit harder so the story is earned by the plot.

    As of now, because story is so central to Last of Us 2, and because it is so abysmally told through this game, you get a 1 rating from me on Metacritic (this is how I choose to voice my discontent with your approach to this game that 'I' put many hours into playing - It's my time to use as I see fit, I chose to play Last of Us 2, I regret doing so, and I'm telling you through my score that I regret doing so for ALL of the reasons I listed above).

    No amount of graphics, clever game-play, or amazing acting and motion capture can overcome LOU2's deficiency in plot and story. I hope next time, you give your fans enough credit and let them take part in bringing the story to the conclusion you want, vs cramming it down their throats with a plunger. We actually are smarter than you seem to think we are.    … Expand

    The game is super drawn out... to the point where you can’t help rushing through as fast as possible only for it to feel like wasted time. Also, the characters feel unrelatable... they try to create “interesting” characters but it ends up feeling foreign and unnatural.

Gameplay's pretty much the same from The Last of Us 1, no revolutionary way they made it more fun. Now, onto why it's terrible, the story's beyond **** Joel is the hero everyone adores from the first game, the way they killed him was terrible, he's supposed to be a seasoned veteran in no world would he be that stupid to die because he was too careless. Joel kills Abby's father, that's why Abby kills Joel, that reason was revealed so much later that it should've been, what we got was Joel saves Abby's life then Abby brutally murders him. That alone makes everyone hate Abby, then for them to make us PLAY as Abby for hours and hours is pathetic.… Expand

The emotional build, the characters, it was an amazing game, and wanted to see the sequel. I was excited when it was announced. Grant it, I reFUSED to look at any of the "Leaks" and got the game, and let me tell you what...I completely HATED it...after a certain scene in the beginning, I immediately turned the game off and uninstalled it without a second thought, never touched it again... I ended up just watching a gameplay on YouTube of it, and honestly, it didn't made anything better. They FORCED you to try to feel sorry for Abby...TRIED to make you like her which failed miserably. Where the first, I will say was a Masterpiece, the second one...was complete crap...I'm never playing it, looking at it, or gonna think about it again...I just want it to be a fever dream...The Last of Us should have just remained a single game... I was excited, and now, just very disappointed...and they couldn't even giving you a payoff, the pleasure of Killing Abby at the end... it was gonna be a 0, but the game did had some good visual, and the Guitar part is good...but, that's all... 1 out of 10.     I played through the whole game and wanted to stop at every turn, for no payoff at the end. I've had an easier time digesting RE6. The graphics and gameplay mean nothing if you have to force yourself to get through it and never want to play it again. For a story based game, that is the aspect that this game lacks the most.

    Wish they actually stuck to the writing and story of the first game. I would wait for the game to come to playstation plus and save your money.

    What can I say the game play and the gore is actually fun and entertaining but does get repetitive after a while. As for the story it is beyond terrible luckily I borrowed this game and never paid for it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's funny that Metacritic is trying to give this disaster such a high score. I'll admit that graphically and on a technical level, it's gorgeous -- the environments, lighting, models, textures, animations, all stunning and technological advances. However... in the end, those are not what make people fans, what make them love your game and talk about it for years to come with nostalgia. That is not why people loved the first game.

    In fact, it's precisely because the first game was *so good* at making you emotionally feel for Joel & Ellie that his sudden, quick and unexplained death early on in TLoU 2 is distasteful to so many. I'm not opposed to emotionally gutwrenching games that make you feel, and this one indeed makes you feel... but not in the good way that you're glad you paid for it.

    From the first game, we saw Joel as a flawed father figure doing anything to save Ellie -- it was deeply touching. Then, he's brutally executed in a stupid way by a character we know nothing of and care nothing for, after having saved her life. He did not get a fitting end. But in the same way that Abby is driven to revenge for her father, so does the player feel compelled to avenge Joel -- this is why so many people dislike Abby. We were bonded with those characters from before. And yet the sequel's writers spend the entire time being preachy and moralizing that nobody wins and revenge is bad -- to the point where Ellie never actually gets any finality or closure, she loses everything -- Dina, JJ, Joel and Jesse, her guitar-playing fingers, everything... and is seen walking aimlessly off in the field.

    You will get no satisfaction or closure. You will be left wanting, with disappointment and sadness. Ellie doesn't even hug Joel in the final flashback, the last time she saw him, because Ashley Johnson (Ellie voice) didn't want there to be a hug. You won't even be given a sliver of happiness in a memory with him, you just have to be satisfied that Ellie said she'll "try" to forgive him. After hours of slogging through the game as Abby and dealing with her experiences and WLF characters we don't really care much about, all because the writers want to try to make you see that revenge is cyclical and everybody makes the same mistake... that is all you will walk away with.

    A whole lot of nothing, and disappointment at what a game this gorgeous could have been. They had years to work on this, on the heels of such a beloved and successful first game -- and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.    … Expand

    After finishing an entire playthrough, I would not recommend this to anybody. From a technical and visual aspect, this game is very good. But the narrative/story ruins the entire experience. The entire game feels very tiresome, forced, and unsatisfactory due to the bad story. The amazing technical aspects of the game are unfortunately not enough to redeem itself.     bought the game, TLOU2 had bad story but the mechanic and graphic is GREAT. THX ND FOR RUINING THE GAME

She helped out lev and Yara cuz she felt bad for **** Owen, who has a pregnant wife. **** worst game of my life. They killed Joel off for no good reason. They just killed him cuz he killed some **** surgeon. Just to think that a **** Tomboy, Illegally imported Mexican, unfaithful boyfriend, scared ass pregnant medic who keeps going around the room like a Lil **** and some other **** can kill Joel, an ex smuggler and someone who has a lot of experience in killing people and knowing when something is up, Tommy, his brother who also shares similar traits and his a big **** beefy Texan Sinclair to Joel, Ellie, a wild teenager in the first last of us game who took down multiple enemies by herself when Joel was injured, is **** retarded. I hope the people who thought this was a good idea can die. I saw someone say that Ellie, a person who wanted to save lives by using her immunity is a lesbian. A **** LESBIAN, she doesn't even reproduce. Tf was that **** honestly. And, the ending of the game, you track down little transgender Chineso boy and his tomboy mom figure just to see them on poles about to **** die and you have a chance to avenge Joel. That's when Ellie decides that all those Scars, WLF, Rattlers and infected she killed are in vain. She beats up Abby and threatens to kill lev and then lets them go. Oh, I forgot to mention, she cuts them down from the pole and lets them get onto their boats and then decides she wasn't to have a fight. Abby made her lose 2 **** fingers, a father figure, a friend (Jesse), and MY **** TIME AND MONEY just so she can let her go. S M **** H. To see them make masterpieces like the uncharted games and last of us one to this. I'm sorry naughty dog, but this ain't it, Cheif.… Expand

    What a joke. Unbelievable with the direction they took. The people they misled who got intentionally lied to by the trailer should get a refund.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A nonsensical game that benothings the series and nullifies the first game. The main character gets killed and replaced by someone who no one asked for, who then attempts to kill the daughter figure of the main character. Both main protagonists are now forever tainted in the series. The best part of the game was literally a flashback. They could have made the whole game be just like the flashback and it would have been perfect.

    The only good thing about this game is how it looks the rest is just overhyped this game is not worth 60 dollars and completing the game was a waste of my time that's why I give it a honest 1 rating sorry graphics alone doesn't make a great or entertaining game

    If you just want to cringe the whole time, then don’t waste your money on this game. Not impressed with it at all, stopped playing and didn’t even bother finishing it.

    A botched second title. A left woke script ruins the story and even many game play scenes. Huge let down to what could have been a great series. A sad day in video game history.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
