    Terrible game , the whole plot is about a message that has nothing to do with the game. Actually a huge waste of time , don’t even consider buying the game let alone watching it on YouTube

    Game was so disappointing. Played the entire game. Story was spiteful and unfulfilled. Best character was cut short within 2 hours. There were flashbacks with Joel to show how good this game could of been. I hate that they ruined one of my favorite games of all time. I understand what they were trying to do. There’s no way this game deserved a 10

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so excited for this game, even with all the leaks; but I managed to ignore the leaks.... i wish I hadn't. I would have saved eighty bucks and a load of disappointment. Unlike the first game, this one made very little sense. I have no complaints about the gameplay; it built on the first one very well. I loved the parts with Ellie, Joel, Dina, Jesse.... but aside from that? Everything was a dumpster fire. Let's starts with the big one: Joel's death. I was not surprised by his death or upset about the gore, even though I questioned the logic of having Joel, a man who can sense an ambush from a mile away, mindlessly falling into Abby's simple minded trap. But I can live with that; no, what I don't understand is the structure of this. They try to make us hate Abby by having her brutally kill Joel, they have Ellie slaughter hundreds of people to get our revenge, and then....not take her revenge because of a brief memory of Joel? If they wanted us to want to forgo revenge, they had to do better than that.

    And then after making us hate Abby, they try to make us sympathetic by forcing us to play as her and making hamfisted attempts to get us to sympathize with her. Sorry, Abby, I don't care that your dad is dead, because the game didn't me care about him! I don't care that you lost him because I don't care about you. If they wanted this narrative to be successful, the structure should have been overhauled-- things should have started from Abby's perspective so we grew to love and sympathize with her loss and plight. We should have had with her at the beginning, a taste of what we had in the first tlou with Ellie and Joel. But she has no development, and we're expected to feel terrible for her. Sorry, I don't. There's no bond between Abby and the player, and over the course of her narrative, all you can think of is how **** forced everything feels, and how desperate naughty dog is to get you to like her, like an ugly guy at prom. They give her cooler weapons , they make her nice to dogs, they make you watch a yak-inducing sex scene, they make her basically be Joel with less self awareness and endless amounts of unacknowledged hypocrisy. They make Ellie out of character so that you sympathize with her less--insulting Dina and calling her a burden--kicking a dog's corpse and saying 'stupid dogs'. The first reaction I can understand because of stress, but the second? What the **** were you thinking, ND? She straight up wouldn't do that, and your attempts to villainous her are idiotic.

    This game gets a 1 instead of a zero because I loved the gameplay....but I'm so unbelievably disappointed i waited seven years for this nonsensical narrative.    … Expand

Although he isn’t a hero but still hard to kill him. I don’t think that it is make any sense he been kill so easily. The last of us should be a story about Joel and Ellie. What they walk though together. Their choices and humanity. If you want to change the main character. Please, have us some signal and story to support the change. I don’t want to say any things about the politics or discrimination in this game. I am sure lot of person say it already.     Pros:
    -Great graphics.
    -Great Gameplay, much like the last game.
    -Music is good.

    Cons:
    -The story is awful! The story is forced and contorted in a way that makes it incompatible with the first game.

    -Character characteristics have devolved into personalities unlike the last game. It's almost like writers didn't even play the last game.

    -They kill the most loved main character near the beginning and in the most ridiculous and uncharacteristic way.

    -Inflrmation given from articles and interviews prior to release completely lied about the contents of the game, probably because the writer knew there would be push back.

    -You have to kill dogs. They even go as far as letting you play with the dog (as another character)before they make you kill it while playing as Ellie.

    -At times, it seems like they are trying to make you dislike Ellie, and make you like this added charater even though she kills Joel.

    I can't give the game a zero because there are elements of the game that are awesome. But I have to rate it with a one, because I waited 7 years for a game with a story that is unrecognizable from the last. If I was a teacher, I would have to give an F for not following the directions, but partial credit for trying. You made a small part of us die a little on the inside, Neil Druckman.    … Expand

    While the graphics and gameplay are great, shockingly great, the story is not. In fact its horrible. You also spend way to much time as Abbey a new character that they really want you to care about. It doesn't work. The storyline is just so terrible it almost makes you want to stop playing the game. Do not waste any money on this game. It's overall a beautiful looking piece of junk.

    It's a gorgeous game and the game play is good. (Or as good as it was in the first game which was fantastic with slight improvements) HOWEVER the story itself and what they do with these beloved characters is disgusting. The story of revenge is weak and Abby is no one you'll feel anything for. She has no personality and is a gross human-being. If you can even call her that.     I was so hyped for this game for years and it delivered absolutely nothing expect amazing graphics and gameplay... that’s it. Characters suck and no I’m not a anti homo or anti woman. No one likes Abby. They ruined Ellie and Joel and made them stupid. I couldn’t care less about Dina or Jesse. I’m gonna pretend this sequel doesn’t exist.

Like I actually felt relieved that Ellie had that moment of realization and let Abby go. They both sought mindless revenge, they both had a chance to kill each other, and they both decided not to. In that sense, the symmetry of them both learning to let go and move on, is actually a really cool story dynamic and I enjoyed it. I even felt emotional seeing the Joel cutscenes during those parts where she remembers how she forgave him and now she’s learning to forgive someone who did something even worse. Great. Good. But it’s the execution that fails horribly. There are so many other ways to get that message across. Watching Pewdiepie play and hearing his reactions alongside my own, seeing the reactions in the comments, no one cares about these new characters either. No matter how much you try to make us like them, we’re not going to. At least not enough to make us enjoy beating the crap out of Ellie in a boss fight. Abby’s parts just dragged on and on with no end in sight. The brief moments of excitement only came when Tommy came and started killing her people off like he was John Wick. I never rooted for Abby ever.

    And what’s worse, I never wanted to root for Ellie either. They twisted her character into being a vengeful crazy person, who kills pregnant women out of spite. That’s not how me or any of the fanbase wants to view Ellie. But they make her do that crap so that you like Abby more, but it doesn’t work. Now you just hate them both, despite wanting to still like Ellie.

    And the end. OH BOY THE END. Ellie literally has NOTHING. Nobody. She is on her own. Why would any fans of the first game want to see her end up there? Naughty Dog, who was this game made for? Was it made for the fans or was it made for you to flaunt you high-minded 200 IQ lesson on morality and revenge? All fans wanted was another fun adventure with their favorite characters: Joel and Ellie. But instead, Joel goes golfing right at the beginning, and we see Ellie devolve into a vengeful psychopath only to be left alone by everyone she cares about, including Dina (who had no character development herself). And when she goes to play guitar (which usually triggers flashbacks and memories), she has no fingers left to play, forcing her to live only with this present reality, no way back to those memories. No new songs. In some ways, it’s more painful to watch than Joel. Why? Why would anyone think this was a good idea? Yeah it’s cool to see Ellie and Abby go through a similar arc and draw similar conclusions, but it’s not like Abby lost everything. She still at least has Lev and group of 200 fireflies waiting for her to arrive. Ellie gets left with squat. Zip. Nada. So why does the character everyone hates (but is forced to love) ger hope for the future while Ellie and Joel get handed straight poop?

    I appreciate the creativity and risk taking. I appreciate the gameplay and action. I even appreciate the symmetrical nature of the story in some ways. But I don’t like watching torture porn of beloved characters and being told by elitist critics that I’m only mad bc homophobia. The positives don’t raise my review above a 1 because while the gameplay and all that is great, the usual incentive for overcoming those levels is to advance the story. And if you’re bored with the story, then the levels and obstacles feel more like a chore than anything else. 1/10 from me.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This “heartwarming” story of forgiveness is ruined by the fact that Joel made the right decision when he saved Ellie from the Fireflies. The cure never would’ve worked because A. It’s a fungal infection and no one IRL has developed a vaccine for a fungal infection (watch Game Theory’s video) B. Ellie was one of a good few immune people who the Fireflies previously failed to extract a vaccine from and C. Once a vaccine is made, then how do they apply it to save the world? They can’t vaccinate everyone and a vaccine doesn’t cure someone who is already infected. Not to mention the other factions of people who may try to steal the vaccine for themselves and ruin it all. There’s too many possibilities that would make Ellie’s death be for nothing so Joel made the right choice in saving her. So how in any way did he deserve to be killed by Abby?

    Abby, even by the end of the story, never became redeemable or in other words someone who deserved to be spared and forgiven. Let’s not forget that Abby was the only one who got her revenge and she ENJOYED it, continuing to be a cruel, evil person. When Abby is told Dina is pregnant, she says “good” and almost slits her throat. Compare that to Ellie, who after killing Mel (another pregnant woman) has a huge meltdown of guilt that causes her to be willing to go home until Abby shows up again and kills Jesse. Joel SAVED ABBYS LIFE in an act of trust and compassion and he gets punished by being brutally tortured and killed. Ellie ends up alone with no one left, and loses two fingers so she can’t play guitar anymore, which was a personal connection to Joel.


    So, what’s the message of this story? Abby gets the best ending out of all the characters. Abby, the one who got her revenge. So is revenge good? That’s a horrible message and I don’t see why anyone praises this game for having a compelling, thought-provoking message. The only message I got was that revenge and cruelty is good because you get on top of everyone else.

    The Last Of Us 1 is my favorite story of all time. I based a lot of my childhood off of it. I used to play WoW, and TLOU influenced me so much I became a survival hunter in order to be like Joel. So it’s really insulting to me when some person tells me that I “just don’t understand the deep message”. TLOU’s world may be one of only a few stories that I have a truly deep connection with, and TLOU 2 does not match up to it.    … Expand

I fully regret having bought this game, and I am trying to resell it, at least recover a part of my lost money Mechanics and enemies are quite good, the story (80% most important part) does not deserve an opportunity. Firstly, they lied with the trailers they show to us. If Abby was such an important character and we were going to be forced play half of the game with her, why did not she appear more in the trailers? What were they afraid of? Then, they use Joel character in a scene where it is actually taking place with Jessie, so lying on us, cheating on us. And not only this, there are too much contradictions between first game and this other game make impossible to emphatize with Abby. Moreover, killing such a beloved character as Joel is (and even more in the way they did) it's a misrespect to the fans, who were the ones running to buy the game at launch price. They destroyed the saga. For me, the last of us 2 never existed. The story ends / continues in Joel and Ellie going back to Jackson after he saves her from a death she even knew would happen...… Expand

The only good thing about this game is it's gameplay and graphics, but it feels like a schizophrenic monkey wrote the story to this game, the pacing was awkward, the deaths were so out of place and random, nobody even learned anything from the deaths that occurred. Joels death seemed too early, I would be fine with them dying, but the way he died and the way it went was so heart crushing and painful to watch, the whole game felt painful to play, only a few scenes were nice. I am unhappy with the fact I had to play as abby for 10 hours, I barely could manage to keep playing, I was ok with small scenes to switch the story up, but 10 hours of the person who completely destroyed the heart of the entire franchise abruptly? I'm sorry, it does not work. They tried so hard to make me sympathize with abby, but it is literally impossible on how forced it is. Same with going after abby AGAIN, it was so unneeded, and weird. I'd understand if you were going as tommy to get abby the second time, cause they have a full motive to do it. Ellie is living a happy life, and just throws it away? Come on. They legit just threw Jesses life away for nothing. Not even Dina learned anything from that. They had so much potential, but threw it to the ground.     I created an account just for this. What in the absolute hell did they think they were doing? Just trying to be edgy? I dont care but it was terrible in every way, especially the last couple chapters of the story. I will give it a 1 for great graphics and gameplay. Honestly though just wish I wouldn't have ever played it.

    Apart from the incredible design, this was a betrayal not only of the fans, but of the actors and the original developers, many of whom were not apart of this game as a result of internal politics at Naughty Dog. No wonder it was horribly disconnected from the first game. It is not an incredible world that one can be immersed, lost in a riveting story and provoked to think about difficult aspects of human nature. It is rather a failed attempt at shocking the audience while including unnecessary contemporary politics, which are important in their own right, but feel totally out of place in this game.

    It feels like they have tried to maliciously ruin everything good that players hold in memory. This is purposeful but I believe it is not justified and after 7 years, I highly doubt that they made any attempt to get input from the most important people: the hard core fans, high profile streamers and original creators of the game.     The more you play this game the more confused you get.
    Aside from all the political correctness that this game is trying to lecture, educate and manipulate us, ND tries so hard sending a message about “revenge is a fool’s game” which is ironic because when their beloved character Abby was taking her revenge on Joel that was absolutely fine and just!

    Instead of Joel and Ellie two characters with personalities, we have Abby a female who looks like a man and Lev who is a girl but wants to be a boy, not to mention that this Lev character knowing that his mom hates him for being who he is goes back to her to try to put a sense in that woman but fails and ends up killing his own mom. Now that’s a role model...
    Instead of all this neverending drama I wanted to see the story with Ellie’s immunity and all the adventure and excitment to continue from the first Last of us to the second one.

The mistreatment of beloved characters to fit this unfinished and half baked narrative is absolutely ridiculous. The villian of this story wins and i wouldn't mind if you didn't spend the entire first game making me love the protagonists. Very unsatisfied.

I struggled to understand their thinking as some of the decisions that were made were so stupid and unsatisfying to watch. Character development was so slow and it didn't make me feel for many of the characters especially when some of them died.

    Bought a ps4 to play it expecting a story of the caliber the 1st one had and it let me down. Returned the game, beautiful graphics but hope they red-con the story. The only decent story telling was in a few flashbacks.

Even then you will find the pacing of the game bad and your interest in playing it will decline and you would just want to see the ending which is unsatisfying making the whole story and new game + pointless.

    The game director said fun is not a word to describe the last of us 2 so if you are looking for a fun game, this is not it.

    You might like characters but you will find it pointless to cuz of the story.

    great graphics and decent gameplay but the story is a mess, and the critic score is incredibly deceptive of what this game is really like

    The fact that this game even dares call itself a sequel to The Last of Us is insulting. I couldn't care less about the character's sexuality, just give me a damn story that isn't full of plot holes and that has at least some proper writing

    What we need are hope and redemption but not hatred and revenge of non senses. There is a deceptive trailer and disgusting story. It is Not The Last of Us at all! We need an apology from ND!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
