    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Im making this critics not just for the last of us Part 2 but for the way metacritic handle things like this .
    Metacritic has banned with good reason some review who were not really well constructed or even having no critics except it's lgbt and this critics have no place to be about this game .
    But the truth is the game is terrible,no characters enjoyable or even remakable for there place in this story, they even been forget in the games with no mention at all. (except joel,ellie and MAINLY Abby but for the wrong reason) the game is extremely beautiful but that's motsly it, the gameplay is the same wich will not be a big problem if not that people waited 7 long years have mostly the same thing that the first last of us .
    And the game Story is boring,gratuitous in violence and has nothing to offer to people except Shock value content and a morality were the mindset of the character change for the scenario is really low for the what naughty dog have made in the past.
    And the game seem to have been downgrade when we confront the E3 version and to been inferior againts red dead redemption 2 (in graphic and story) zelda breath of the wild (gameplay and engine) and ESPECIALY againt spec ops the line (for violence and the meaning of his story) or even having no choice in the game (like the walking dead telltale series or dishonored 2) is real some miss opportunity for the game to be even better than it's predecesor .
    But the fact that metacritic censored some well review and has been blocking new negative review makes it revolting (with the gaming journalist score of course) some really really sad thing for the great studio that was naughty dog and killing have well writen,loved character in this game with no reason except shock value and killing other npc with no consequence make it a really miss opportunity for naughty dog and the fact that manny great dev have been quiting the studio while the game was been made and the other were forced to to making crunch time for the game to make it deadlines is sad . i really congrats the people who were making graphism,music and character appareance but im not giving my congrats for the people who have made the story,who has falsely make their advertissing over joel and the people who were forced or pay to make great review for the game or they were losing their position.
    For ending this critics i have to say that naughty dog has truly lost the meaning of ''fun'' in video games (like neil druckmann has said) and that whatever their next project is, they have to really working about their employee,their method for making games,and their games because it is that or even with the ''sucess'' or the last of us part 2 they will be like bethesda or bioware.
    Some great studio who lost their passion and originality with too much ego or stress or maybe both of those thing,a great story have been cancel for a very poor story with just a meaningless morality in their own story . (even the last jedi has better quality than this when the movie has just 2h32 hour and the game has 35 hours ,really mediocre )
    i would have give a 5 or a 3 but i give it a 1.
    metacritic is a good site but those kinds of game hurt their name and some good review user are extremely strange to be honest if we have to ban the negative critics with no real meaning we have to ban even the good critics with no real meaning .
    And the game is not even making good lgbt representation in gaming life is strange,mass effect (until andromeda) and even the dlc the last of us left behind were real and memorable .
    And when a true great games make with love and really meaning and choices (im talking about cyberpunk 2077) and that games journalist will give a greater score than this game it will just confirm that they are more honest with a new game made of his own than a game that privilige and the great standing that was the last of us part 1.
    Play lisa the painful a great dark story about consequence,violence and the meaning of life after the worst has been experienced. the game is maybe old (15 december 2014) and has not the beauty of the graphism of the Last of us 2 but the gameplay is more challenging,the story is making you depressed and sad but doesnt let you feel empty like nothing was important and forced but that even after the worst we alway can rise up .Play it it's make a better job letting you sad,scare and depressed than the whole story of the last of us 2    … Expand

    It's a 25 hour torture porn misery simulator where you're forced to brutally kill realistic dogs and play out the dumbest revenge plot of all time.
    It's a revenge story where you kill hundreds of people only to let the target of your revenge live because revenge is bad I guess. Then you go try to live a happy ending and decide 'oh wait revenge is good afterall.' Then you get to the target again and decide 'nevermind revenge is still bad.' This game is trash and I hate it. This is coming from someone who loved Last of Us 1. Please don't support this trash game.    … Expand

    I played the Last Of Us originally, I fell in love with the story and thought it was amazing and Geary aching. I waited for years for the second one and I was so disappointed at the game. They really took away the wholesomeness and feminine side of Ellie. I have nothing against tolerance, and I support it myself, but those minorities and groups represented in the game, do not affect the plot in any way and added only for the tick. If you want to make a game about minorities, make it separate, but you don't have to force this content into the game and the story, in which it will not look organic.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part 2 is such a disappointment to me. It can be a new game with new character, but cannot be part 2. It humiliates the fans in the previous one.

Do not play this game if you liked the first one, it will only make you upset. They try to get creative and introspective with the storyline and instead end up ruining the entire game.     The graphics are some of the best I have seen on the system. Sound was good overall The combat is very repetitive and no real improvement over the first game. The story is down right horrible, destroy characters we fell in love with and completely destroyed what made the first game great.

But not the cool kind of lost were you think at the game as amazing. Lost as in you feel like there should be more. Overall a complete disappointment. What made the last of us great was it’s intense storyline. The last of us 2 offers nothing like that. And btw I thought it was pretty cool in the last of us 1 DLC (left behind) where you find out Ellie actually likes girls. It was not too much and they made it seem very cool and kind of beautiful. But they was really just milking the fact that she liked woman in this game. Like “ohh see how diverse we are here at naughty dogs”. Man get out of here. No attempt to generate a meaningful storyline nor progress the world to the next state was made. Characters behave uncharacteristically and it does not tie well together.     I'm writing this as the credits roll on the game, nor did I watch the spoilers leaked online. If you enjoyed the first one, you will more than likely utterly despise this one. Joel and Ellie are not the same characters; straight-shooting and hardened heroes no longer describe them. What you are left    tldr: Terrible story, worse gameplay, hollow diversity, pretty graphics, do not buy.

    I'm writing this as the credits roll on the game, nor did I watch the spoilers leaked online. If you enjoyed the first one, you will more than likely utterly despise this one. Joel and Ellie are not the same characters; straight-shooting and hardened heroes no longer describe them. What you are left with are similar but significantly altered shadows. Like another man said below, I checked out 2 hours in, and never came back.

    The rest of the story is just... bad. There's an attempt to make you care about other characters in the game, but you end up not because of everything surrounding them. You try to keep playing, and then you realize that you're not having fun. You're just watching a train wreck that hit a bus while carrying a nuclear bomb that set off a volcano that froze the planet in endless winter destroying all life. It's. That. Bad.

    The gameplay is worsened from the previous one. There's an effort to make combat more combaty, but I remind you that this is a mostly a stealth game. Stealth, depending on the difficulty, you may never use. Listen mode is utterly useless now (unless they are right next to you). Enemies will change patterns depending often you reset a point (this is more frustrating than enjoyable). You have to continuously turn the camera to keep hitting the same enemy. Your first skill tree is useless; the last 2 are your best. The game will not let you turn off tutorials until you beat it and prepare for condescending 'hints' when you die.

    The diversity in the game is paper thin and hollow. And it feels more like checking off boxes saying, "Look who we have in the game!" versus actually doing the work to weave their stories into a compelling narrative. Diversity is not a bad thing. Half-assing it is. A black character is not just black, a lesbian is not just a lesbian, and a jewish person is not just that. They are more and that should have been explored through the lens of that world. You will see almost every race in here. You will see almost every marginalized 'major' group in here. None of which contributes well to the over all story.

    The art and graphics are solid. Game looks beautiful.

    Do not buy this game. Borrow it from someone, or watch a Let's Play. The ending is remarkably awful, and there is no satisfaction in finishing it. The Last of Us Part II was an artsy attempt to change the first; it succeeded. Neil Druckmann said that this game is about hate. He is right about that; you end up hating the game.    … Expand

    Playing this game can be likened to having Naughty Dog tie you to a chair, drill a hole through your head all the way down to your throat, and then spit in it. Imagine that for about 15 hours straight.

    But at least they tried to paint you a pretty picture while doing it. 1 out of 10.

    I finally got around to making an account on here with my biggest motivation to review this game. I've given it 1 in honour of the poor devs that slaved away on this game to make the gameplay so amazing, the environments beautiful, and the character concepts were so gorgeous.

    However unfortunately even the gameplay felt empty and ruined to me by the absolutely disgusting taste akin to    I finally got around to making an account on here with my biggest motivation to review this game. I've given it 1 in honour of the poor devs that slaved away on this game to make the gameplay so amazing, the environments beautiful, and the character concepts were so gorgeous.

    However unfortunately even the gameplay felt empty and ruined to me by the absolutely disgusting taste akin to vomit that this game left in my mouth. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said here or great analysis videos on youtube but in basics I'll just leave this:

    I have been obsessed with TLOU since its release. It is a masterpiece and its storyline that closely follows Ellie and Joel as their relationship develops (as well as each of them separately as characters) is what brings everything about that game into harmony. I've played it so many times I've lost count. TLOU2 on the other hand is such a blatant insult to the first game I couldn't even force myself to finish it and instead settled on reading what happens before I promptly deleted the game as well as the extra content I got with my special edition preorder.

    When the game got delayed for the final time I was given my money back by playstation and told I could repurchase the game if I still wished to. I now wish I hadn't. What a complete waste of money on a game that is pointless and brings the player no joy or enrichment. What made TLOU so special is gone, now in TLOU2 its legacy and reputation are left in ruins due to the garbled mess that is TLOU2.    … Expand

    You play half of the game as a character you don't care about, in a side mission that you don't care about, so it gets boring. I was fed up with this side mission and still had to play 5 more hours of uninteresting stuff before getting back to the main story (ca 10 hours total of this side mission, the last 5 was not fun or interesting).

    The game ruins all of the characters from Last of Us part 1, so you don't like any of the characters after finishing. And you feel miserable and angry because the characters you cared about from the first game are ruined - not because of the moral of the story that is told.

    There is a clear statement that Naughty Dog want to tell us thru this game. It is not about lesbians or trans-gender people. That was just thrown in here, totally OK, maybe provokes some people, but does not matter to the main story.

    The main statement is OK, but is so, so poorly executed that you are better of watching a recap, than paying and playing the game. It is a waste of your resources.

    They better not make a part III, I don't want it, I would not buy it.

    The best option is to avoid all about this game, because it ruins the first, great game for you. Play the original one more time instead. That is the best option.    … Expand

    The only redeeming quality from this game is the environments are truly beautiful. The flash back scene of Ellie and Joel in the dinosaur museum was great. Unfortunately we dont see many great scene like that to play through. Definitely not worth full price... or even half price currently.

    I gave it a 1 because it really is the best looking game I’ve ever seen but everything else about it was disappointing. The story was a complete mess. They game keeps making you try to feel bad for a certain character by basically just forcing you to play as them when in reality it had the reverse affect and the more I played the more I hated her. Please do yourself a favor and save your money this game is an insult to anyone who has the slightest interest in movies and storytelling. (note: I am not rating this game on gameplay at all because that would make it a 0 for me since the gameplay is boring and naughty dog games are slightly interactive movies so as such I review them like that)The only positive that this game has is its the most beautiful looking game I've seen. But graphics don't save lazy writing. This game is a message, NOT A STORY. Characters act uncharacteristically to push the message and completely shown to be disposable. Now to talk about this game in-depth i have to spoil the major story elements if you are for whatever still interested in this game after reading all these reviews stop here. Now I'm going to start from the beginning, Now I do not have an issue with what happened to Joel, I have expected it after the first game and golf is a great sport. I have an issue on what leads to his death, Joel is known to be very secretive SO WHY DOES HE GIVE AWAY ALL OF HIS INFORMATION TO COMPLETE STRANGERS and you cant make the argument that he has changed because not only A. he is in a zombie apocalypse but B. Joel and the people he is with is known to be attacked by hunters so he can't risk just giving his information away. Now If you ignore that the rest of Ellie's story is fine until we get to Abby, the game attempts to make Abby a misunderstood character who was eaten with revenge but it only does the opposite ABBY IS A MONSTER even if you ignore she killed Joel, she has been know to be ok with killing people she once sat at the same table with and being excited to kill a pregnant woman. No matter what you can't make me like her in any sense. You have to play as Abby FOR TEN HOURS if you cut most of her parts out not only would you have a better product but your goal of making me sympathize with her would have been better executed. The biggest sin of this game is the ending after Ellie finally finds Abby hung from a tree almost dead, instead of letting her die, SHE FREES HER. You could have ended the game with her walking away and still have her end the cycle it would have been anti-climatic but it would still be better than what happens she frees her and proceeds to challenge her to fight her to death to which she begins winning, in the fight Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers so if she wasn't mad before now she should see red. Ellie proceeds to drown her and as she is dying and Ellie is getting her revenge the most retarded thing in the entire game proceeds to happen ELLIE LETS HER GO AFTER REMEMBERING WHO SHE KILLED. WHAT??? I AM DUMBFOUNDED BY THIS. The logical response to remembering Joel is letting her come up for air and drowning her again. This doesn't even do what the game was trying to push. LETTING ABBY LEAVE DOESNT END THE CYCLE OF REVENGE. What is stopping Abby from coming back and finishing the job? There is no implication she doesn't want to do that so your message is now pointless killing her would have stopped it. After letting Abby ago Ellie is left with nothing, Abby gets her revenge and what she wants, while Ellie loses everything she can't even play her guitar how does that encourage people to end their cycles of revenge. The only saving graces for this game is the flashback sequences, It's almost like the writers just fell asleep for the rest of the game except for these parts. They should have charged $20 for the game and only had the flashback sequences, This would live up to the legacy of the last one and still be enjoyable. OR HELL if you cut 8 or more hours of the Abby parts, rewrite both the ending and beginning to make sense, you could have a 9/10 game. Or even just cutting the Abby parts would make it a 7/10. But that doesn't happen this game is just unbearable. This game could be a 5/10 if these were completely new characters and not Joel and Ellie it would at the very least fix the beginning and help certain people from hearing Abbys story out in the beginning but again this doesn't happen. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THAT IS GOOD SAVE YOUR MONEY AND FORGET THIS EXISTS.… Expand

The way he walked into a trap is so out of character for who he is that it raised red flags for me before anything else. And I love Abby as a character, but I didn't want to play her. And no I did NOT want Ellie to leave her family, her little spud, for some revenge spree, and it honestly didn't make that much sense.
    Also if she killed like dozens of people just to get to Abby who was imprisoned, why on GODS GREEN EARTH would she hesitate to kill Abby? Oh, these people were just NPCs, but Abby, she's special. ugh...
    I love the games, the first one especially, but after playing this I'm just left with a bitter taste in my mouth. It will take a lot to convince me to buy another game from Naughty Dog.    … Expand

The game took all the best parts of the first game and burned them in our faces. Joel and Ellie’s relationship isn’t there because you killed Joel off. The story of the game is based on revenge but there is little to non in the whole game. You spend the first bit just tracking Tommy and what he’s doing wishing it was you on that rampage. You make us play over half the game as the one character we hate the most. The fact Abby lives at the end and Ellie lost just about everything she cared about is one of the worst endings in all of my gaming history. Nothing was resolved at the end and there was no satisfaction in anything that happened as either character other than beating the crap out of Abby.     The gameplay is exactly the same as the first game, except you can go prone now. Very little innovation.
    The only good this about this game is the graphics. They are the best you will see on the PS4. The environments are insanely detailed and the lighting effects are amazing.

    Making her selfish and unable to understand that it's because Joël loved her that he saved her in the even from the first opus.
    They never at one moment in the story is the clicker outbreak given more info that player didn't know from the first game...

Would I buy this game again if I could go back in time? No ...Would I replay this game? Again, No. After 7 years since part 1 was released, the story of part 2 proves to be a convoluted and distasteful roller coaster ride of emotions. ND forces you to play as the newly established antagonist, to empathize and bond with this stranger - only AFTER she kills the familiar and beloved Joel Miller. Adding insult to injury, Ellie goes on a killing spree to avenge Joel, killing hundreds of WLF soldiers/Scars - only to leave Abby (the character who fueled said killing spree) alive. I understand what ND was trying to accomplish in making this story - the idea that revenge is a vicious cycle that ultimately gets both parties nowhere, but the way that they executed that idea was heavily flawed.… Expand

I wanted to start with the good parts. The graphics and mechanics are incredible, and I'm glad they added LGBTQ in the game, big heads up for that. Now we took care of the good, let's get into why the game is horrible. The story was pure crap. It all felt rushed and not well thought out. The reason players loved The Last of Us 1 was because of the relationship between Ellie and Joel. But here on the Last of Us 2 they killed Joel to early in the game, and in a very humiliating way, which left me and alot of other players very confused. Also the new characters like Abby and Dina felt rushed. The chemistry between Dina and Ellie just didn't exist, and the Devs also tried to FORCE you to like the character Abby.     The game is waaaaay too long and maybe I could've been ok with it ending at the theater or maybe even after saving Abby.     I have 100%'d this game, and can confidently say the graphics are the only reason you should buy it. That's what the point is for. If you have not played The Last Of Us 1, buy that instead.     This time around, the story line is riddled with massive plotholes and goes for shock factor instead of good writing. While I think that trailers and marketing campaigns shouldn't spoil a game, there is a line where it goes from being anti-spoiler to flat out lying to trick fans into buying the game for false reasons, and Naughty Dog went over than line numerous times.
    Gameplay wise, it is exactly the same as the first one. That's not exactly a bad thing, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but it only worked in the first one because of the story, where every cutscene brought new and interesting plot development, why what you were doing and where you were made sense. This time around it is just tedious, side mission after side mission that aren't important, fighting the exact same enemies in the exact same way hundreds of times.

The fact that you are forced to play as her in order to procceed makes the game unbelievable irritating. I understand that the motive of that part of the story was to make players realise the perspective of the villain in the game. I only rate this game a 1 because the game it’s self is beautiful, great combat and stealth and the world is amazing it really captures a apocalypse. The bad, naughty dog pushing a agenda. What does gay people have to do with zombies? Ok you have gay characters, whatever. Why do you have to shove it down your throat non stop, a lot of people could careless about sexuality. They force it on you so bad that it’s not even believable and straight up awkward! They have great characters like the Mexican and Abby but then ruin it with non believable characters. It’s so bad it’s stupid!! They took a great story of elli and Joel and instead of continuing that story of why Joel died they focused more on forcing there “gay” agenda.     The storyline is downright nonsense. Last of us 1 is so much better. I feel really betrayed because I was waiting for this game for a long time even though I am not a gamer!! I jsut like the last of us 1 a lot and thought the last of us 2 would be the same - with better graphics and an an amazing storyline - but then everything changed........in a way that is irrational and illogical.

    It's not even about the fact that Joel dies in the game.
    It's about the fact that it happens 2 hours into the game.
    It's about the fact that Naughty Dog then forces us to play as Joel's killer.
    A character that for many of us doesn't care about and never will care about.
    The graphics and the gameplay is phenomenal, but that doesn't matter when the story is so disappointing. When the writing is so bad. Wasted potential.
    I could have forgiven the game developers if it wasn't for the ending.

    일단 스토리부터 보면 개연성이랑 핍진성이 너무 부족하고, 그 부족한 개연성에 당위성 부여하려고 등장인물의 캐릭터성이랑 지능을 조져버린게 가장 큰 문제라고 봄
    같은 사건(조엘 뒤짐, 엘리 인생망하고 복수포기, 애비 최종승리)으로 스토리를짜도 플롯 순서좀 바꾸고 캐릭터에 입체성만 입혔어도 100배는 나았을거임

    pc요소도 무슨 지식인 코스프레용 아이템처럼 써먹는데, 존나 역겨움
    내가볼땐 개발진들 pc는 개뿔 그냥 소수자들 공감 1도 못한다고 생각함

    당근 싫어하는 사람이 잘만든 볶음밥에 들어간 당근을 먹고 '생각보다 먹을만 한데?' 이런생각이 들게 요리를 만들어야 잘만든거지 요리를 좆같이 못해서 당근이 더 싫어지게 만들면 요리를 못만든거잖아?

Critics can say all they want about how amazing the story telling was, but guess what there are more consumers than critics. It just like plurality vs majority vote rules. I honestly hate this game. The story telling is predictable, no character development, and random people added with no background story? I’m really really disappointed about this game. They really messed up a masterpiece of a game to a clown fiesta. How dare you kill our beloved Joel? Who the **** cares about Abby? Why do do you insist on forcing the consumers playing her, you sick twisted game devs? I’m just so mad right now cause the writer of this game is probably a lunatic.     Don't be deceived by the graphics and visuals. FOCUS on the story quality and the weak plot! It lacks quality. There is ABSOLUTELY NO PAY OFF for games in the end. The purpose of gaming is allow the gamer to make decisions while being fully immersed. This game ignores and disrespect basic courtesy to gamers.
