    It's so sad how this story continues. If we talk about level design it's basic, some animations are very badly done but in general, it's decent. Like most of the people, the biggest complaint is how they treated the story, there are lots of events that happened "because the script said it". I recommend this game if you don't care about the original idea of the first game: a freakingIt's so sad how this story continues.     Since the 2016 reveal trailer, i can say that the majority of tlou fan base, including myself were excited to know that one of our favourite games of all times was going to have a sequel. Instead of that we were given an bland revenge story with an even more bland as well as non-sense ending. What a shame of a game.

Graphically this truly looks amazing when compared to the original, however unlike the original the Story doesn't make sense and does not pull you in like the first one did. I found myself struggling to finish the game as i felt so disconnected from the story. The trailers for the game were clearly misleading and i don't see how that was even legal.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm very sad to write this review. I ignored the review bombing in hopes that it was just angry fans stirring up trouble as they always do.

    I'm going to start with the fact that people think people that are angry are just mad because of the LGBT references... The Last of Us: Left Behind introduced Ellie as gay, and it scored very well. Most people don't care about a character's sexual orientation, as long as the story is good. With that being said, the LGBT part of the story did seem to be "in my face" a lot, and made me want to say, "Yeah I get it, they are in love, cool. Get back to the story.", but I liked both Ellie and Dina.

    The action/graphics in the game were very well done, there is no argument towards the technical aspect of this game being done well, that is the only reason why this review has a 1 and no a flat-out 0 though, I have to admit.

    After that, this is where the positive/neutral things end. The entire point of the first game was looking for the cure, there has to be a cure. It was a good story developing Joel and Ellie as a "family" and developing their characters.

    This story basically "forgot" everything that had happened in the first game, and ignored all of the development of Joel altogether. He was a very cautious person and didn't trust anyone, and in the second game this was thrown out of the window.

    Abby kills Joel very early in the game, and it's unknown why, until you find out that the little girl that Joel saved in the first game was Abby, and she kills him because he killed her Dad, the doctor.

    There is a point as well where you play as Abby, because it wants you to relate to her character, and I have to be honest, the moment she killed Joel she was no longer an interesting character, she was the antagonist. You're not going to make me relate with a character by trying to show their human side, after they kill the character that you've grown to love throughout the first game. I'm on Joel and Ellie's side, no matter who has to die.
    After this, you have this entire drawn out story where Ellie murders everyone in her path to get to Abby for revenge, and then develop the relationship between her and Dina throughout this story, all for nothing.

    Ellie kills Abby's friends, Abby kills Jessie, and after all of this... After all of the killing and fighting, at the end of the game, Dina tells Ellie not to leave, and Ellie leaves anyway to go find Abby. You have a long drawn out fight with Abby, and then Ellie lets Abby go.

    All of the people that died in the game, was for nothing. All of the development between Ellie and Dina was for nothing. Abby leaves, Ellie loses her guitar playing fingers, Dina leaves, and Ellie is alone. They threw it all away at the end for what? To make you want a third game? I am not confident in Naughty Dog's ability to do anything except make a game that is technically good with scenery and action at this point.

    The only thing that this game has done was disappoint me in Naughty Dog's ability to write a compelling story to keep me engaged, and it's very obvious that they struggle at "closing" a story that they were trying to make. If there would have been some type of closure, it would have been a better ending. Instead, they just left it as a cliffhanger, and made the entire game you just fought through felt like it was a hopeless waste of time.

    What was the point anyway? Abby kills Joel, You kill everyone to get to Abby, Dina leaves you, and you don't even kill Abby. The ending is: Ellie loses everything, and you don't really have anything resolved other than you know why Abby killed Joel. There is no closure.

    As a final note, the reason for the bad review is not BECAUSE Joel died. It's because of the way that the story was told. It was written and done early for shock value, and then they tried to piece together the reasoning afterwards. There are many games where main characters die, and it's done in a way to really make you love the game. This is not one of them. If they would have told Abby's story beforehand and let us grow to like the character, and let us understand her motives, in order to lead up to a climax where she kills Joel and we understand why she did it, then that would have worked much better. But instead, they chose to go for "shock value" points and it hurt the story a lot.    … Expand

    Seven years ago The last of us released

    People praised it to the point of ridiculous, so i bought it. I found the gameplay to be laughably bad, really poor controls and contrived set pieces. However the Last of us part 1 was saved by an outstanding story and really likable characters, You could look past its many many failings because you wanted to see what happened next.     Fast forward seven years: The last of us part 2 released, and all the problems from the first game came back. They have barely developed the gameplay at all. They couldn't / wouldn't address the problems from the first game.

    This time however the story cannot save them.

    The likeable characters from the past bare little to no resemblance of the characters they were. They make decisions they wouldn't before. They kill off characters with no love with or prominence. It's impossible to like any of the player characters as they act in totally unrealistic manners for no reason other than to forward the massively contrived plot. There is little to no character development and their characters feel wafer thin. It's massively disappointing.    … Expand

    The game is a piece of trash because you're forced to play as Abby for many hours. Why would I want to play as her when she killed Joel in the most sadistic way. She kills him with a golf club.
    I liked Joel from the last game and am invested in him. So I hate Abby yet had to play as her for a long time. You play as Ellie not enough and in the ending she still doesn't even kill Abby. That is so out of character when she has killed a lot of people before. Why would she suddenly not do it?
    Als, the game is basically like a movie. I want a game, not a movie. Cutscenes after cutscenes and some sort of QTE gameplay. Oh please, give me a break.

You false advertised and deceived us into thinking Joel was going to be around or that we’d only play as Ellie. Gameplay is the same as before except now it feels only tedious, maybe a little crack in the wall is what’s different. And a terrible ending, everything Joel and Ellie endured and all for what? NOTHING?! Ellie loses everything and Abby just walks away. I’ve waited years upon years for this, and this is what I get in return. El juego tiene buenas dinamicas, escenas de accion, paisajes, musica excelentes pero la historia que lo que mas se destaca en el primer juego queda muy pero muy por debajo en esta entrega. La dificultad en el modo supervivencia es pesima el juego se pasa muy facil incluso en la dificultad maxima. La parte final del juego del viaje es totalmente innecesaria pudiendo haber terminado en el cine y haber cerrado asi. Pareciera que el juego es un rejunte de ideas que tiro una serie de grupos y al final lo juntaron y quedo este monstruo sin sentido. La historia es como el rey rata del fondo del hospital..un monstruo sin forma de un rejunte de cosas/ideas. Pesimo juego.… Expand

Но как оказалось Джоила тупо слили в первые часы ( его насмерть забила клюшкой для гольфа стероидная баба, а ее друг плюнул на труп) ужасная, грубая смерть. Он не заслуживал такой смерти. Дракман со своей гребаной феминисткой саркисян просто плюнули в душу фанатам игры. Рассказывать можно бесконечно, но суть в том, что вы убили не только вторую часть, но и первую. ПОЗОР! П. С. My problem with this game stems from just how all over the place these characters are: Ellie goes from a hopeful soul who wants to help the world in the first game, to a homicidal maniac in the beginning of this one, to forgiving Abby later on?! And Joel, who would trust nobody in the first game and do whatever it took for safety, saves Abby for no reason and then tells her and her whole group of strangers his name? Speaking of Abby, they try and push this needs of the many outweigh the few mentality on her, but she abandoned her friends and morals to for lev? Excuse me? It’s like they didn’t even care about writing a good game here, they just wanted to, as I said, push a narrative with a pretty coat of paint. And if you want to push for representation PLEASE DO, I really love the LGBTQ+ characters, the POC, and everything, but these games are ruining characters for the sake of representation. There’s so many more valid points to be made about why this game was a shame, but they’ve already been made and I just don’t wanna think about this game anymore. I just really hope games start to realize that we don’t hate LGBTQ+ or POC characters, we just hate when characters are poorly written and poorly designed, and when their motivations and character traits are thrown about nonsensically. These negative reviews are all valid, and people trying to push this idea that we’re review bombing because we don’t like that they “killed off the white man” or because “the main character is gay”, please just stop. You’re the problem, and people like you are exactly why really good, really beloved LGBTQ+ characters especially won’t be widespread, because for a lot of you just having a woman or a gay character is enough. This game could’ve made Ellie just as beloved as Joel, but in case you haven’t noticed, it didn’t. I just really hope this isn’t the way the industry is going, and if you’re gonna keep making games like this, please don’t make them sequels to the games we actually do love.

    1/10 for the amazing graphics, gameplay, and sound design (although the AI could use some work). They did great work on the gameplay, but as this is a story game, I’m rating the story.    … Expand

The graphics are great but it goes to show only graphics don't make up for the lack of substance, the story is rubbish. The Joel they gave us here isn't the one we saw on tlou1. So Naughty Dog intentionally misleaded the public in its advertising. CompletelyWhy , why , why?...     This was incredibly bad. Forcefully shoving in current day politics and pc mindsets into a game. Story went downhill fast. And useless scenes just to show that naughty dog is "lgbtqrs" friendly, like that "bigot" scene. And by the looks of the reviews i can see im not the only one that was massively let down by this game.

This game took glee in smashing one of these pillars in excessive fashion leading to a crumbled house, a crumbled game, a crumbled franchise. This was a game intentionally design to go on a different direction than what was expected by fans: a good, fun, interesting game that would continue our heroes story in an amazingly written fashion. The result thus was a bad, miserable, uninteresting game that didn't continue our heroes story in an amazingly poorly written fashion.… Expand

    The second part.. is just all over the place.. only for one brief time i just wanted to know why Abby killed Joel.. once that was revealed... The emotional rollercoaster started in the game.
    I don't why this game feels like really bad movie.. or the walking dead series at the later seasons.. it is too long and too damn predictable. The story does not makes any sense.. as a player i don't feel connected to any character infact to Ellie as well. Do i feel bad about Ellie or Abby .. i don't wanna play as Abby.. i dont know her.. she killed Joel thats all I know .. The story goes nowhere, they thought that we can emphatize with a Character that we hated near the beginning of the god damn game.
    What is the grace in kill a pregnant woman without guilt and leave the real killer free? What kind of maniac wrote the script? He or she definitely need to get into a madhouse!    … Expand

Game play was very repetitive(Turn on generator.. it needs gas... go across the map get gas... opened door ... there another generator.. it needs gas).. Majority of the problem in the game is that they try to make you like Abby, when a lot of people are not going to like her, it is what it is.But they gave her the best missions best weapons. And i believe the game would have been better if they give you the choice to kill or spare Abby. Let the player make the decision, And then Last of Us 3 could take off from the players decision.(that would be next gen).… Expand

    Authors tried to show the human side of Abby by making us play her story line, but failed miserably. Disgusting. Technical and art side of the game is good however.

My personal opinion follows: I think that the reason why The Last Of Us part 1 was such a success was the relationship between Ellie and Joel. You watch the beautiful character development between the two. However you get to part two and it completely destroys everything from the last game. Not only is it just a disrespect to fans, but Joel deserved a more dignified death. Lastly the game forces you to play a character you despise and want dead. Then tries to forcefully make you pity them and understand their reasoning. The game then makes you fight against Ellie, the one person you root for the whole time. I dont care about any other controversy. Transgenders? Lesbians? Gore? I don't mind any of it. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 was because the gameplay was nice, while the story was poor.… Expand

    I can't believe how they destroyed everything they built up in the first game. This story is an absolute abomination and I couldn't be more disappointed that they had the lack of sense to run with it.

    I did not enjoyed playing this game. The plot seems too false and out of characters. All the new characters are poorly written as well as their's relationships development. Maybe that's because devs wanted to push too many diverse things in a story driven game? All that just for the sake of bigger drama and darker feelings. I'm disappointed with the game.

Оружие новое только одно, почему то, новых зомби два, ещё есть противник - собака. Это уровень наполнения для длс. Но не для новой игры. Сюжет, ах, этот сюжет... У всех персонажей здесь, что вы могли видеть в первой части , совершенно иные черты характера. У антагониста очень странная мотивация для тех или иных действий на протяжении всей игры. Além do jogo ter um objetivo ridículo, apenas de vingança, ele tem personagens sem carisma nenhum e ainda se preocupa mais em fazer apologia a bandeiras esquerdistas, como homossexualismo, drogas, transexualidade, idolatria, do que em apresentar uma história consistente. O jogo é muito demorado e 80% dele é só exploração e conversa, pouca ação e quando tem é extremamente repetitiva. Fora que a Naughty dog matou a franquia, quando retirou o Joel dela.     The game graphics is awesome, gameplay is awesome, but the story is garbage. Lazy writing, and the characters seems like they are not from the first Last of Us game. Joel being non-cautious is bullcrap. other characters are forgetable, and that big arm lady is bullcrap, how can you gain those muscles on women on post apocalyptic world? is she a cannibal?

They exceeded the last game, however the story was written and executed in the worst possible. The problem in the story wasn’t that Joel died (most people already expected that) but the way he was killed was the main problem. Killing off a beloved character from the previous game in the most disrespectful way to invoke emotion from the player is a horrible is a easy and lazily written plot, Especially by the hands of a new character who the audience does not even care for. We play roughly 10+ hours of the game playing as Abby, a ridiculously muscular woman who killed Joel in the beginning of the game. The game fails to get the audience to sympathize with Abby even after revealing her past and her motivations for killing Joe… Expand

After playing the original Last of Us probably around 10 times through because it’s one of my favorite games of all time I was extremely excited to play part 2. I stayed away from all the leaks and went into the game with very high expectations. I even preordered the special edition and the ps4 pro console edition. After finishing the game I was extremely disappointed. Naughty Dog and Sony deceived me from the trailers. Scenes they provided with every trailer I saw made me believe he was a vital part of the game. However what they did was model swap him and change his appearance from flashbacks. They then decide to kill Joel off and make you play as his killer for half of the game. Playing as Abbey was brutal to play through. There was not a single second playing through her story that I enjoyed. And not one time did I emphasized with her character. Sony and Naughty Dog deliberately kept her out of the trailers and reviews because they knew if the fans found out about playing half of the game as her they would not have bought the game. I am extremely disappointed. I don’t believe I will ever be able to play the game through again. Playing as Abbey was punch in the face to fans.

    If you liked the characters or the theme of hope in the darkness, there is non of that in this game. It disrespects the characters from the first game having them make dumb decisions. If you loved the characters and story from the first game you may feel like me and feel like playing this game was a mistake.

    The issue is not Joel died in this game, the issue is how brain dead the story telling is in this game.

    First of all there is so many ways they could have played how Joel died in the game. Then another issue is NOBODY wants to play as Abby, its like you are playing as Micah after killing Arthur in Red Dead Redemption 2.    … Expand

    De qualquer outra forma, menos esta. Os personagens amados do primeiro game perderam suas características e tentaram tornar humana uma personagem que não mostra remorso, obrigando o jogador a controlar a Abby por horas. Abby não se mostra abalada, não tem sentimentos, não fica triste que as coisas tenham que ter sido resolvidas daquela forma (ela inclusive mata seus próprios amigos), já Joel e Ellie, por mais que façam coisas erradas no decorrer da história, ambos sentem o peso das suas ações. O que aconteceu com a Abby foi triste, assim como o que aconteceu com o Joel e com o que aconteceu com a Ellie. Essa relativização do que é certo e errado é tudo o que o game quis. Ele veio com a intenção de ser polêmico em todos os aspectos e eu pelo menos, não queria ver uma saga tão divertida alicerçada em cima de polêmicas. TLOU não precisava disso. ATENÇÃO AGORA PARA ESSE PONTO:
    "Vamos fazer um game que você controla uma homossexual maconheira. A namorada dela é judia e tá grávida, cogitando não ficar com a criança. Mas vamos fazer o jogador controlar também a personagem que matou o pai dessa garota, que é super musculosa e mostrando subliminarmente que mulheres não precisam de homens para nada."

    No ponto acima, não existe nada de errado. Tudo é aceitável e é uma escolha de cada um: sexualidade, drogas, religião, aborto, independência feminina, tudo isso são escolhas de cada um e cada um deve ser feliz como bem entender.
    Agora....
    O problema é pegar TODOS esses fatores e colocar em um único game e enredo. O game queria inegavelmente ser polêmico, mas... Os fãs queriam isso?    … Expand

The original game was an absolute masterpiece, with the introduction of these too amazing characters: Joel and Ellie. As we played the first game we got to know both characters and learned to respect and love them. With The Last of Us part 2, all that Naughty Dog has built with the first game is completely destroyed. They killed Joel right on the first 2 hours of gameplay in a way that contradicts that characters personally. Not only do they kill him in a confusing and disrespectful way, they later on force us to waste over 10 hours of gameplay controlling the same person (Abby) who had murdered Joel. For some reason they keep trying to shove this stupid character down our throats, as if we were supposed to sympathize with her on some level, but that just didn’t work. She killed our most beloved character, therefore we hate her and nothing they could do could ever change that. Unlike the first game, this one brings a painful and annoying story that nobody asked for. It is an insult to the fans of the original game and its main characters. The graphics however are the best I’ve seen, the scenarios are really beautiful and the soundtrack is compelling just like in the first game, but the story is absolute trash. We deserved better after 7 long years of waiting patiently for the sequel. Disappointed.… Expand

    Retunred to store for refund after 3 hours play, massive fan of TLOU1 and its character arc and lovely charm between Joel and Ellie.

    I almost vomited at the current story line and character arc, looks good but utterly ridiculous shoehorning in identity politics (WHICH WOULD HAVE NO PLACE IN an APOCALYPSE SCENARIO)

    Such a shame for fans of the series, whats next Nathan Drake in drag?

Beloved characters with deep personalities and backgrounds built up by the first game were utterly disrespected and deliberately written in a way that made them perform completely out of character solely to be used as a plot device and discarded for the sake of a new plot and new characters to be forced in too quickly. Many of the new characters are shallowly built with bare minimum character development. I have very little sympathy with the new protagonist because of the way they were introduced especially and they continue to act in a way that in no way makes me empathetic with thier cause, no matter what happens to thier companions, they just come across as a psychopath to me. I understand the message the game wants me to see but it ends up unbalanced and lost in a convoluted plot. The eventual climax and ending of the game is left poorly resolved and unsatisfying, no doubt to keep the story open to a third installment. Had it been layed out differently with some changes, this story could have had the potential to be enjoyable and impactful, but it just felt like a long miserable slog. Being a huge fan of the first game and having high hopes for a game that hopefully continued the development and relationships of our most beloved characters I was shocked by this game and tried my best to give it a chance to redeem itself with good reasoning, but it's heartbreaking to wait so long for a sequel and have it turn out so bad. I'll unlikely play this game again and mostly disregard it, and just return to playing the first for yet another time.    … Expand

    I loved the first one so purchased part II in digital version. But this part two, I cannot understand why the story is like this - really don't like the story as a player who loved the previous one. Like others, it broke my heart and felt bad while playing the game especially the later part of the game. It should have had better story.
