    So 7 years ago Joel saved Ellie from the fireflies by killing all of the guards and doctors unfortunately a flying bullet hit a little boy Who looks like a girl..i will not touch this subject however It hits him and killed him/her i don’t know you decide. So joel and Ellie lived happy and whit no regrets cause they knew the world was **** up already.     Stressful to play through the game but I've just finished it. I don't understand why would anyone play a game that makes you mad the majority of the time. I mean we are trying to have fun to play video games right? This is not the right representation because unlike movies, you need to control certain characters and force you to play certain plotted acts...it's painful and it's not fun!     The gameplay is good but not a big enough change to make it stand out. Graphics are great with a big jump from TLOU1. But the bad review from this comes down to the decisions made with the story. The decisions made destroyed what made the first game amazing and I believe the decisions made were not the right ones.

    Game sucks. Totally disrespectful to the legacy of the Ellie/Joel dynamic, and the developers made them way out of character. Graphics look good, but it takes more than good graphics to make a good game. All in all, a very unsatisfying, disappointing, and upsetting sequel to one of the best and most loved games on the ps4. Reminds me of the disappointment and frustration of Mass effect 3.

    The story was just a waste of time. The gameplay was solid, music, voice acting, graphics, etc. All superb, so please understand how bad the story had to be to get such hate. The first half of the game was fun, overall off to a great start. The problems arise half way through, when the terrible decisions come through. I'M GOING TO BE CLEAR, my dislike for this game has nothing to do with it's LGBTQ themes, I was actually excited to see how they would handle these in the storyline. My issue is with the story progression, and the characters.

    Abby is just an unlikable character. I knew Joel at some point was going to die and I knew the game would mostly be about Ellie which made sense, I was ok with that. I DIDNT know Joel would brutally killed by Abby in the first hour. Seems like we were promised a LITTLE more Joel than that, but ok, revenge quest starts early. It was fine for the first half...then, the switch. We actually have to play as Abby. The character we all hate for killing Joel. And we don't just play as her for a little, or in little bursts. you play almost an entire half of the game as her! And despite SOME cool scenes, you don't stop hating her. Playing as Abby was a "meh" experience at best. She's boring and the first impression of her is an irredeemable one. I can't count how many times I repeatedly let her die in game. A solid ending could have saved it all, but the ending was meh as well. Ellie spares Abby to end the cycle of violence, which is an odd place to draw the line after Ellie just spent three days stabbing, shooting, bludgeoning, dismembering, torturing, impaling, intentionally infecting, strangling, blowing up into actual pieces, and lighting on fire, what must have been 100 people at least. But Ellie travels all the way to Santa Barbara to... not kill someone.

    If all you care about is gameplay and graphics, this is a great game. If you like stories,, but you didn't play the first, its ok.

    But if you LOVED the first as much as I did, and loved the characters, and waited 7 years to see what happened to them, this game is heartbreaking. LOU was a masterpiece, 10/10. It deserved a 10/10 sequel and got a 4/10 AT BEST. Part 2 had all the makings of a great game DESTROYED by awful story choices which for a studio of this quality is inexcusable. Therefore, one star.

    The trailers led us to believe this would be the next chapter in Joel and Ellie's story, it wasn't. It was half a game about Ellie and half about someone we don't care about and don't like. We deserved a better story than this. This isn't what we were promised.    … Expand

Honestly, the only good parts of the game for me were a couple of the flashbacks and the mechanics. If we had the story of the original with the gameplay of this one, you’d have a 10/10 from me.

    The established characters do so many uncharacteristic things. From what I understand, Tommy has always been a stick to the plan type of guy since he left the Fireflies, but they send him out on an unplanned murderous rampage. That’s more of an Ellie trait, but this time Ellie is the one with at least a little bit of a plan. It’s like Naughty Dog just threw out everything we knew about the characters’ personalities and made up completely different people that happened to have the same names. The most disappointing part about all this is how misleading the trailers were. They straight up switched Joel out with Jesse in one of them. Maybe if they gave us the game we were shown then it wouldn’t have been so bad. Overall, if you care about the original game, don’t touch this one. But if you know nothing about the original and don’t care about the story, then you might like this one. I guess thank you Naughty Dog for teaching me to never preorder a game again.    … Expand

They care nothing for their fans, they only care for virtue signaling and being inclusive, which is tolerable if done right, but this couldn't be more wrong. I was disgusted to say the least, playing this game, never have I hated a protagonist (Abby) quite like this.     tbh i'm kind of glad i got the story spoiled for me, this way i didn't need to fork over $60 for this disappointment. i seriously don't know how they went from a original, heart wrenching and emotional story about saving mankind, to an "uh oh revenge bad" story killing off characters who's names you cant even remember for shock value.

    This pile of garbage... it hurts reviewing it.

    This one has 2.4/10 for a reason. Don’t fall for the ‘woke’ bs. We all knew Ellie was bi if not gay from the DLC. Blaming the reviews on homosexuality or any other ‘non straight male’ excuse is poor.


    The gameplay sucks compared TLou1.The story decline even worse than the final season

    Incredible visuals and music can't make up for a complete lack of skill in writing. The story is unbelievable, full of plot holes, often depraved in failed attempts at adding shock factor and spits on the legacy of the original. A painful game to experience.

    It is further insult to injury that Naughty Dog used false advertising to sell the game to fans of the first.

    I was anticipating this game since a lot of time, and loved the first one, but even though the graphics are beautiful and the gameplay satisfying, the story is horribly written, with characters that are definitely forgettable, and some decisions that don't make any sense.     This game is about feeling frustrated and mad with the developers 99% of the time. Not an enjoyable experience, especially if you played and liked TLOU1. I think Neil Druckman created a very good first game, but he definitely fell short in the second part, mostly because he wanted to create something controversial, and he ended up adding a lot of irrelevant details to a very bad and horrible story. I don't even know why the critics gave this game such great ratings. Not good, I wished I had not preordered it. All the characters are bad and empty. The only cool character is Ellie but you only play as her only 50% of the time. Big thumbs down for me. The end is also a big disappointment. No no no. I gave it a 1 because of the graphics and environment design which are very good, but aside from that I wished I had not wasted so many hours playing this.… Expand

There are certain parts in the game where it makes the player feel bad for playing it and thats just not okay. Examples are when Elllie is forced to kill the dog and when you play as Abby trying to kill Ellie. These just make me want to drop my controller and walk away. I also definitely don't want to play as Abby for about 10 hours because you could say anything about her and I still won't sympathize for her. And the ending was so out of place for Elllie's character, she definitely wouldn't have let Abby live and if you wanted that at least make it an option to kill her because now the story just kinda seems meaningless. You go and avenge Joel but in the end you don't even kill who kills him?Also how this game tries to make you like Abby so bad is sad it comes to a point where its just super manipulative and obvious. Also im just gonna say this now what the hell was that article before the game came out that says that you dont have to kill dogs??? You are forced to kill a dog as Ellie which is stupid because no one wants to do that and it just seems out of character for Ellie, also how you play as Abby and you get to pet that same dog you kill and play with it... yeah I saw that its super manipulative and stupid. And just to top off my review the trailers for this game are so misleading its terrible, Naughty Dog used Joel as a marketing figure by adding him in cut scenes when he was already dead and in game he's not even in the scene and thats just scummy. This is a definite no in my book and the game honesty deserves the bad ratings. But if you like the game or you feel that you'll like it go for it but I'd at least watch some gameplay first so you know what you're getting into.… Expand

The fungi narrative has taken a backseat, clickers are easily disposed of now...in the first game I’m constantly running empty on shivs. And one of the best protagonist ever in gaming went out in one of the worst ways. I don’t want to play as Abby...my opinion! I skimmed through those parts as if I was doing a speedrun, what’s worse is i have to level up again midway through the game? Sheesh!! And the flashback to the hospital scene...not my playthrough when i was Joel I destroyed everyone in that hispital!!!… Expand

    Gameplay of terrible. Character moves like a robot. Can’t grab stuff unless directly looking at it. Easy concepts become near impossible to execute. Great graphics but, the story is straight garbage. I wish I could get my money and time back at the end of the day.

    The story is the absolute WORST I've seen in any video-game. Who the f tought it would be a good idea to make you play for 6 hours with Abby, it doesn't matter how much she has suffered, I want to end the game with revenge, not with her as a friend. This isn't the last of us, it's an ethics class for primary school with violence.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The problem with this game isn't that it is "too depressing". You can make a depressing story that makes sense and makes you like it. I was unable to complete it (it is so bad), instead I've read the plot summary. And you know what? No matter how I looked at it, I felt that the whole plot was very very familiar to something I've read before. If you think that the problem of this game is that "they changed the writer", I wouldn't be so sure about it. The thing is, I have a hunch that the first game was a copypasta of some another, less-known (in the west) story. But let's talk about TLOU2. There is a certain, currenlty untranslated, Japanese visual novel by the name Soukou Akki Muramasa. In the prologue of the game protagonist is a certain high-schooler who tries to investigate the death of his friend. At the end of the prologue, he is suddenly killed by a detective who solved the crime and who the boy considered a hero. Fake protagonist killed after a few hours of the game, sounds familiar? Also, revenge and the preciousness of human life is the main theme of the game. The difference is - Soukou Akki Muramasa actually makes you relate to the "villain protagonist" for real, to understand his reasoning and life philosophy. He isn't a cold-blooded killer, he is a person who is forced into his circumstances, a person who kills with his eyes wet from tears and heart wrenching from pain. A very deep and complex character, one of the best protagonists ever. In comparison, Abby...well, she is just trash. At the end of Soukou Akki Muramasa, the protagonist would be forced to make a choice. To kill an evil man for the sake of revenge, or not to. And as it is a visual novel, you will be given an actual choice. By choosing not to kill you actually get a true end. Sounds familiar? But the difference is - the protagonist of Muramasa wouldn't kill the man not because "killing is so bad", but because he understands his own sins, he realized that a person as sinful as he is has no right to seek revenge. It is very deep, very touching, and emotionally impactful. What I want to say here is that The Last of Us Part II tries to tell you the story that actually could be pretty good if done right, but it fails miserably. Moreover, it goes against the expectations of those people who loved the first game. If the first and the second games were actually written by the same person then I can be pretty much sure that he is just a copywriter who got lucky with his first attempt, but not so lucky with the second.… Expand

The Last of Us: Part II throws away one of its few protagonists (with proper character development) out the window in exchange for a new character that appears so out of place and rather pointless in the story overall. I've been contractually obligated, under NDA, that with ND's guidance; I'm supposed to write something around the lines of "This game poopy dookie SJW **** SJW **** SJW **** Keep this **** out of our video games"; so that our journo friends have ample ammo to bang out a few hit pieces.

    But let me tell you something, this game falls on a blunder that is typical for amateur hour to pull, and that's when we get to the "this is where we're gonna kill Joel", you'd expect that the writers expect Abby to monologue to Joel about who she is and why she's about to murder him. But instead it plays on the audience/player expectation to connect the dots and reach that leap of logic. In the game's story, Abby could have taken out any random Joel to suit her revenge, but it just so happens she lucked out. That's risky writing since that can come off as lazy, rushed, and amateur.    … Expand

It was not a perfect game, with its clunky gameplay, over dependence on the square button, but the plot and storytelling were outstanding. It became one of those games that left us thinking about the true potential of games and how we could come to care about Joel and Ellie and their bond.

    TLoU2...wow. Damn. Beyond shocked, saddened, angry and now simply disappointed.

    What were they thinking?

    Some games are hard and brutal but if they have an engaging story line with continued character development, gamers fall in love with that game. NONE of that happens here!

    After all the false advertising (btw, how is that not libellous??? Isn't it the same as snake oil??), so, yes, after the false advertising, you go excited to continue to play your favourite two characters, whose story was the reason you looked past the clunky gameplay and all that excessive square button smashing... and then you end up being teased those same characters, and then you see that their relationship has become strained, then you are given control of some random character who ends up being saved from the infected by guess who, your favourite characters from the pervious game...strange but ok. Because this was very moronic and out of character from Joel... anyway, the game is a game, let's continue... But then you are shocked when Joel and Tommy give up their names and location without any provocation! Not only out of character, this is an insult to the intelligence of the players who know this would not have been their own reaction based on the first game. The water in Jackson is definitely not healthy if its dumbing down everyone to this level.

    This idiocy led to the IMMEDIATE HATRED for Abby because of THE TWIST at the 2hr mark. OK OK OK, Ellie now wants revenge and then we have the first 12 hrs of the game where we go through several parts of Seattle and... find that wherever we reach, most of the people are already dead or not helping us in any way. As a result, you feel for 12 HOURS THAT NO PROGRESS IS MADE by you as the player.

    What is more frustrating than your favourite character arc being killed off and turned into a cookie cutter revenge plot? A revenge plot where you feel no sadness for all your friends being killed around you, where you never seem to kill or get anyone to spill the beans on Abby's whereabouts, and where you FEEL LIKE NOTHING IS GETTING DONE AT ALL.

    This is the worst thing a game dev. can ever do. DON'T MAKE GAMERS FEEL THEY ARE WASTING THEIR TIME FOR 12 of the first 14 hrs.

    But then the devs did worse, they force you to play as the killer of your favourite character. What is wrong with you devs??? You end up speed running through until you reach Tommy and Ellie, when you are happy to see Abby (the character under your control) die repeatedly as you shout enthusiastically for her death with the controller down.

    ANGER for the devs is all you are left with.

    You don't get the satisfaction at any point, even at the end of the game when you have gone through literally thousands of dead bodies to reach Abby, however poor her state, you want her dead, and the devs DENY you even that small satisfaction.

    You are left feeling that the "experience" thought up by the devs is quite brutal, some might argue as being artistic, that's questionable, because unlike art, this actually serves a purpose... making you suffer for your love of the original game.

    This is a big middle finger to the gaming community from start to finish

    You loved Joel? Let's make him dumb as a rock and beat his head in with a golf club!
    You liked Ellie's wit and humour? Let's make her into an a-hole chokes up at the last minute, does not avenge Joel's death and is left without even her guitar playing fingers, and yes, her girlfriend left her with their baby.
    Oh, you started to hate Joel's killer? How about we make you play as her for 12 F***ing hours as we try to humanise her and build empathy for her situation because otherwise us dev aren't breaking any new ground (which, in any case they weren't).

    NO ONE LIKES ABBY'S CHARACTER BECAUSE SHE KILLED JOEL. Don't make us play as her. Give us a choice. None of her friends are memorable, hell, I can't even remember their names. Everyone in the game is an a-hole except for maybe Jessie, who gets what he deserves for being a nice guy, bullet from Abby in the face.

    Devs and Sony should understand one important f***ing thing.

    Gamers don't forget this.

    You may break even, or even make a **** ton of money off this game, but it is because of the reputation they had built up from the last game.

    Now we know who these devs are. We know they've lost it and don't care about fans, because unlike a movie in which things simply happen and you watch, here you are forced to speed run through half the game and make ****ty non-choices.

    Gamers will stay away from next project because we will remember these burnt bridges.    … Expand

    - I loved the last of us 1 for how he managed to please all the characters told. In tlou2 of the characters who die you don't give a damn.
    - The story is a simple search for a person for revenge that then does not materialize, everything that happened was useless.
    - The worst thing ever is being forced to play halfway through the game with a character you don't like and hate.

I wished this game could be better than its prequel, but alas, tlou2 came out with a pretty bad, disappointing story, its so bad that even the good graphics and music couldn't save this game. While killing the first game protagonist isn't a surprising move (and I don't have problems with it), but the way Naughty Dog did it was very disrespectful. Playing as Abby could be a refreshing experience, but her background story too awful and poorly written that I couldn't enjoy playing as her. Out of all the questionable things Naughty Dog did to this game, the ending was the worst. Please stay away from this game, especially if you love playing the first one.… Expand

    Sadly with all the great game mechanics and beautiful graphics, it really gets overshadowed by the story line that feels messy. The first hour really felt disappointing the way Joel and Ellie was used, by you get to Abby, it just feels like you're just going through the motions. I don't have much of a reason to care for Abby. but whatever.

    I want my Money back. The one Score Rating is basically for the gameplay as the first game. Which was good but nothing new. Story was just way to random and a lot of things didnt even make sense.

To anyone that is reading this and thinks that the game does not deserve such a bad review score (and it really doesn't - it's a pretty good game) all I have to say is that this is just the only punishment that we the users can dish out. If we were to stay silenced, this would always repeat. And perhaps the amazing team that worked on this game's visuals, animations, soundtrack, and programming might be better off in another company, as their skill has truly not went unnoticed. The only problem is the story, it ruined it for me. Even if the gameplay and graphic is good, bad story writing can make the game really bland and boring. No one in their right mind wanted bad story, especially where they killed of a character we all love for stupidy. The experience the character got in the first game was gone, vanish into thin air and all we got is stupid character. They really think it's a good think to play as the killer after they killed one of the favorite character? Talk about stupid writing. All fans want a good story, not a bad one, if you give bad syory you are ready to get bad reviews. "You can't get the ending you want" yeah? Then why are you complaining when us fans say bad thing about the game, if we don't get what we deserve(a good story writing) then this game is as good as dead. The way Ellie leave Abby for something called "revenge is bad" is sooooooo stupid, it was used many times now and was so generic. Joel would die nonetheless but the way he died is so disrespectful, this a fantasy story, you can write anything but the way you write it doesn't seem to satisfy the players but yourself.     A sequel to a story oriented game that can only be compared to the likes of the last jedi's story. The story has glaring plot holes with previously established characters from the original game suddenly going out of character to fit the story arc that ends miserably. The arrangement of the story is absolutely a disaster.

    But if you do, I wish you best, btw PlayStation can get refund just for this game for now.

I waited for this game for many, many years and was so excited as soon as I got it, I avoided any possible spoilers and came clean to the game knowing that the first game was perfect and even played it twice and enjoyed every moment. Eli and Joel were simply amazing and couldn't help but connectto them.Then, came the second game.In one word - disappointment! the beginning is just annoying, this moment that killed Joel with such indifference, I knew he would die at some point but not like that, no way he would have helped Abby. He is suspicious and relentless and would just leave her alone to handle her self and never enter to a trap. And then comes the moment when I'm just full of hatred for abby and just want to kill her and get revenge on Joel's damn death. and then, shamefully i'm going to play abby?! Why the hell?! The whole game I was waiting to be back to olay as elli and it didn't happen and for a long time we were as this damn abby that sometimes I put her to death even though I played her and didn't feel pity, and then when the meeting finally happens, again, I have to fight elli?! wtf ?! Just **** And at the end we still let abby go and let her go ?! And beyond the main characters, the whole story about the bad guys is just unfounded, briefly reminiscent of the wonderful Spider-Man 2 in his failure that was to manny bad guys and their stories unfounded. who are these WLF and why were they created? Who are these scars and why were they created? and who is this group from Santa Barbara and where did they come from and what is their story ?! Oh And there are also zombies .... just a messy game and a miserable story and it would have been better not to go out with this game, not to ruin the first one ... the ending of the first one was perfect! And the story, too, had a simple basis, and in the second game there was just one big mess. And let's talk about the trailer, in the trailer we see Eli playing in a guitar in a house full of dead people and Joel suddenly comes in slowly and tells elli "whats'up kiddo?" And than she tells him she's going to kill each one, mmmmmm where's that scene?!?! Did ND Lied to us? Leave details ?! disgrace!!!!!! One good word - the illustration, the graphics and everything is simply stunning, it was a blast. In conclusion- Don't buy the game, save your money!… Expand

Gameplay, graphics and the voice actors really did a good job in making this game, so kudos to them, the writing however, SUCKS as the second game completely ruins the characters in the first game and we were forced to play as the killer who kills Joel for the HALF OF THE GAME, and then Ellie SPARES HER IN THE END when she already sacrificed so much just to get to her.

    This game is not The Last of Us 2, it doesn't have the right to be called The last of us, for me it's just a fanfiction badly written by the bad directors to push their political views through games.    … Expand

    They killed everything that made the first game good. Replaced it with some underdeveloped characters such as Dina Jesse... They lied promoting the game. Such an awful hypocritical stunt to be pulled off. This game actually deserves -10 because of the lies Naughty Dog told to us .

Not because all the main characters are gay, bi, trans and.... whatever the hell the other one is.... It's because the writing, dialog and characters are so so so so so bad. Considering the first game is my favourite story (not game) of all time this franchise has fallen so unbelievably far. It's painful, like really painful how bad this entire experience is. They were trying to be edgy at the expense of everything else. The things they get you to witness and do are horrible, but they could have worked if it was done in a different way. It's so odd to see a Naughty Dog game executed this bad that it's making me wonder if any of the people who are still there had anything to do with the previous titles.

    If you like the original game, even a little bit, I would advise staying far away from this one. Pretend that it doesn't exist and you will be a lot happier.    … Expand

The mechanics whilst mostly the same as in the first game are still excellent and the graphical quality has obviously progressed greatly in the time since the first game released.

    First of, killing a Friend or Mentor, Family member at the start of the Game is one of the laziest and most uncreative ways to start a Story that could have gone in so many Directions that the First game made open at the end but ok, it worked. I hated that Character so much that it kept me going. It had good moments and the "flashback" parts where realy good and made me Love the Joel&Ellie relationship even more wich also resulted in hating Abby even more. Killing her Friends was not satisfying enough but was a good start. So far so good, but then it started to get ridiculous.
    What the HELL did you think you where doing Naughty Dog ?!?
    You forced us to Play as Abby ? The one Character we wanted to kill on the most Brutal and sadistic way that would be possible without the game getting Banned!?! You wanted to make us have feelings about her and her Friends ? You wanted to make us feel sorry for her and her dumb father ? You wanted to Justify her actions and thought that we would think that she had the right to kill Joel ? Yeah, guess what ? IT DID NOT WORK! All that it did was wanting her even more dead. I gave and give a damn **** about her feelings her friends and her damn father all i want is too f***ing kill her! There was absolutely not even a little bit of room for empathy or feelings towards this f***ing piece of sh** called Abby. Then the second part did end and you made us fight against Ellie... i realy don`t know what you did think to yourself while your where writing and develop the second part of the game... and then you let it end there with everyone going there ways and the second part ends. At that time i realy thought this would be it, this is how it ends. But no, you made us Hope that we would get what we where all waiting for throughout the entire Game. Once more we are going out to seek Abby and leave everything behind us to finally Kill that piece of sh**. And than what ? Right, wen don`t get it. The game ends and Abby is still alive... Did you realy thought that what was happening to Abby at the end of the game would make us Happy enough ? That we think that she suffered enough ? Pathetic.... All that we wanted was to f***ing Kill her, too slaughter her, too make die a slow and Painful way but you, Naughty Dog, did not give us that satisfaction, you did not give us Justice. You did not Deliver! Another Franchise is Ruined, another once so good Developer is gone. All that you did with this game, Naughty Dog, is that you will go Down like all the other developers that did not Deliver and let their Fans down. Naughty Dog you are just a huge disappointment....    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
