    A major step backward in terms of gameplay compared to the original Last of Us. The organic blending of story elements with the gameplay from the first game has been abandoned in favor of lengthy and numerous cutscenes (which feels archaic in the year 2020). They decided to double down on the clunky stealth aspects which were easily the most tedious part of the original.     Decepção define esse jogo. História ruim, personagens novos sem carisma (Abby, Lilly, amigos da Abby), personagens anteriores mal aproveitados (Joel, Maria, Thommy), personagens novos também mal aproveitados (Jesse, Dina), bugs, e um final bem ruim e sem sentido. The Last Of Us nasceu e morreu no primeiro!

    It's a shame for those critics to describe the story of this game as art or philosophical. The story just simply does not make sense and the choice of the character is simply not understandable. In addition, there are too many boring settings designed for political correctness for some particular class of group (and forgetting other groups as usual).

    I had such high hopes for this game but my god Naughty Dog just **** all over the hardcore fans, such a disappointment I just hope they find a way to somehow make it up a little.

How could they lie to us with these fake trailers? By treating Joel this way, making him do stupid things he would have never done, making us kill dogs so we can feel bad later, and this ending.. Idk man it just feels wrong.. We were really looking forward tlou2. All you had to do, ND, was to write the decent story we all deserved. Yet you destroyed the franchise with poor storywriting and lies. I hope you enjoy your medias score, the fact that the game will sale well too.     Really disappointing. The trailer was edited to deceive the players. I understand what the game is trying to do to the players, unfortunately it just didn’t land. A missed opportunity, effort, and time to one of the greatest franchise.

    1. Beloved character Joel died like a dog. His demise is so meaningless, created just as a plot device to push the game forward. Worse yet, you can't even get the satisfaction of revenge. Poor Ellie travelled all the way to Santa Barbara just to SAVE the murderer at the cost of her two fingers. She later tried to play the guitar but because of her lost fingers she couldn't. This is just so fking sad and ridiculous. I cried twice at the end of the game. Why ever would you do this to your fans Naughty Dog? Do you take pleasure in making us sad and miserable?

    2. Too many inconsistencies in the game. Tommy initially tries to persuade Ellie to not to go to Seattle but later got mad because she didn't want to. Abby is painstakingly shown in the game as a moral character who pets her dogs and tries to do right by people who have helped her, yet she didn't even blink to smash Joel's head in, even after Joel and Tommy just saved her life (I mean, at least show her hesitating, but Neil is too incompetent to think of this). Without Lev's intervention Abby would have slit Dina's throat, with great satisfaction that is. So much for a moral character (btw Ellie didn't know Mel was pregnant and only killed her in self-defense. This is different.). Ellie had no problem killing hundreds of people just to take revenge on Abby, yet when she finally had the chance, she gave up. (This bewilders the heck out of me.) What's worse, when she gave up, she should be thinking of the two previous occasions when Abby spared her life, which would make Ellie sparing Abby much more understandable, yet she was thinking about Joel when she stopped choking Abby. Wtf? Why didn't Ellie become angrier thinking of him? Why would she let Abby go? I can't believe a game that takes 7 years to make has so many loopholes like this.

    3. You are forced to play Abby for half of the game. Because of her actions many players DO NOT want to empathize with her. This is just another example of the terrible design of the game. If they place Joel's death at the end of the game, after they have shown Abby's backstory and struggles, then people may find it much easier to empathize with her. But ND decides Joel should die as quickly and as miserably as possible at the hands of a total stranger that is Abby, which makes it much more difficult for players to relate to her sufferings, and therefore makes people sick and disgusted the whole time they are playing as Abby. Want some proof? Just check out how many players tried to suicide Abby. I did it, many times, and it felt amazing.

    4. Shocking people for shock’s sake. Many of the scenes in the game feel unnatural, contrived, and illogical. Examples: Joel and Tommy suddenly go stupid and walk right into a group of strangers to whom they honestly confide their names; Abby’s group decide to spare Ellie’s life despite her repeated threatening of their life (the logical move was to kill her, but obviously the story has to continue); the brutal fight between Ellie and Abby at the theater can only end after Abby (played by you, who hate her guts) has killed Jessie, shot Tommy in the head, beaten Ellie to a pulp, and nearly cut Dina’s throat. There is no other way to continue the story (This is by far the single most disgusting plot design I have ever played in my entire life.). What is even more retarded, though, is Abby’s decision to spare Ellie’s life, AGAIN (…Well, it turns out in the end that this decision was actually not so bad, since Ellie also became retarded and came a long way to RESCUE her and Lev, instead of seeking revenge on her). These unnatural and illogical plot development can only be explained by the writer’s deliberate attempt at shocking the audience: Joel and Tommy suddenly become stupid because Joel has to die in a spectacular way, so **** logic, they are going right into an ambush. And of course, Ellie has to be there to witness Joel’s head becoming a golf ball (shocking as hell), so she’s there to see it and later released (stupid move on Abby’s part). I can go on but I don’t want to; you get the idea: shocking people for shock’s sake makes the story stupid and unconvincing.

    5. False advertising. This has been talked about by many people. The scenes featuring Joel in the trailer was swapped by Jessie. This is unacceptable.

    6. Too much LGBT propaganda. Ellie is lesbian; Abby is stronger than most men; Lev is trans, and Dina is bisexual. I feel like I'm watching a LGBT show than playing an actual game. I do not hate the LGBT groups but such overrepresentation of them is cheap and shadows other themes like revenge, love, and redemption.

    I'm really sad at the moment, not only for the TLOU series, but also for the terrible fate that befell Joel and Ellie. I'm deeply hurt by this installment and I'll try my best to forget that it ever existed.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has amazing graphics and splendid VA and motion capture, with a gameplay that is similar to the first iteration with some improvements on some combat parts.

    However this kind of game suffer from a gameplay that can become a chore, because the story is the most important reason you play, you just want to know what follows. This is when the game stumble to a pit of mediocre story telling and a plot that happens because the plot need to happens and is the plot that carry the story not the characters, on the topic of the characters, the story disrespects the characters from the first game on an attempt to create shock and subvert expectations. The game tries to give morality to an immoral with an at best an inconsistent values and at worst a forced narrative.

    It is plausible to make a cruel narrative with moral gray areas and be masterpieces like Schindler's List or Saving private Ryan. This game lack what makes those movies not fun, but a great piece of art.

    In conclusion, repetitive gameplay, beautiful graphics and VA, but a story that is so poor that it belongs to fanfiction with no real character development apart from a screaming inconsistent and biased message.    … Expand

    Uno termina desagradablemente jugando una historia fome, que tiene un desenlace aún peor. creo que es un juego que nunca volveré a jugar y que no estuvo ni cerca de acercase a The last of us 1

And before you say that it´s unfair to grade a game based exclusively on the story, that´s what Naughty Dog games have always been about - top notch storytelling and visuals made interactive by average gameplay.

    TLOU was first and foremost a story about SURVIVAL. It was the story of how 2 completely different characters found in each other the reason to keep moving on, even in the darkest of days. Joel found in Ellie what he had lost in his daughter, and Ellie found in Joel what she couldn´t have from her mother. It could be bleak and somber at times but it never lost sight of this concept. This connection meant you always had a reason for moving on. And the ending, while not happy nor sad, offered hope and reinforced the quest for SURVIVAL (as mentioned previously).

    TLOU2 completely dismisses its predecessor and serves a depressing tale about selfish revenge, and an endless self-serving cycle of violence that leads nowhere. It tries to vilify those we admire and humanize those we despise. It forcefully lectures the player into believing there are no heroes nor villains, no good or evil and that everything is justifiable. What a major disappointment. The same minds responsible for one of the best stories of the last generation created a sequel with the sole purpose of "getting people riled up". In this instance, they have succeded.     1. There is no improvement in the game except for it's graphics and the new dodge mechanic that is completely broken and makes melee combat an ez pz task. Graphics are great, the gameplay is the same as in tlou 1, so there's nothing to talk about.

    2. The story is poor and full of "what a coincidence" moments and inconsistencies. Ellie is traumatized for torturing 1 person after killing thousands of them. I mean: WHAT, REALLY?

    3. The only point in the story is this "cycle of vengeance" metaphor. great cliché, doesn't explore further, doesn't even bother developing anything else, not a single good story neither for the wolves or the scars, just different groups fighting for territory.

    4. Abby doesn't kill a person that has travelled all across a city to kill her, just because? that without saying that Ellie killed everyone she cared about, of course. and SHE DOESN'T KILL HER cause it's Ellie?? OH BUT WAIT, she didn't have a problem when she had to travel all the way to Jackson to kill Joey. And all of this, for what? So Ellie can go after her AGAIN. TO LET HER LEAVE. Really? Ellie has a problem killing Abby but not all the people in the middle? this is ****

    5. What a piece of **** of an ending. But that's just my opinion.

    6. Lastly the game is so desperate to call attention that all of its main characters are LGBT, like saying "look at me, i'm inclusive". All non LGBT characters die. Except for Tommy just: BECAUSE. Even if he was shot in the eye. LGTB characters? no, we can't kill those. Look at me, i'm an inclusive game.
    My question is: will there ever be a game that treats LGBT stuff as normal and not as a resource for screaming "look at me?". Suddenly it subverts all the machism and turns itself in the complete opposite type of game where all the character are either gay or empowered woman. Do we really want this to become the new "strong guy" ppal character for all the coming future games? will there ever be a middle-point?

    My real note would be a 5, but seeing that people is just giving it 10's without reason i'll give it a lower note, i think it kinda deserves the review bombing.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. en ocasiones la gente quiere expresarse sin sentirse atacado por dar tu opinión, pero yo creo, que toda opinión es valida cuando tiene cierto fundamento , the last of us 2 es un juego que tiene muchas emociones encontradas en mi, los gráficos indudablemente son excepcionales , el sonido es muy rico y variado en los entornos generando una ambientación única el los sitios con sus respectivas animaciones que los detonan y deja entrever el talento de los diseñadores del juego. en su apartado audiovisual no deveria de sorprendernos viniendo de naughty dogs. pero a laves tiene algo que de merita al juego enormemente y es su historia, cuando yo juego algo siempre espero ver una armonía en todos sus elementos pero no halle eso en su interior de guion, me sentí defraudado por el desenlace de personajes y de historia, es como comer algo que sabe bien pero también tiene un olor nada grato, si al final de cada bocado no te quitaras de la mente que su olor te desagrada pero a la ves sabe exquisito y no tiene nada que ver con la orientación sexual de los personajes sino el como se les condujo en cada acontecimiento en el trayecto final de la trama. para mi suma incoherencia la poca determinación de la protagonista en su objetivo final es como una traición a a la confianza de sus seres queridos que velaron por ella, en un mundo tan ruin y malvado no cabe el arrepentimiento si tu ya no tienes nada que perder. la personaje principal ellie demostró ser una genocida de sangre fría por necesidad y no por gusto, para proteger a los suyos y a su ves para terminar perdonadle la vida ala villana?… Expand

I tried not to read any spoilers because I personally beleived that there is no way that they could possibly do anything to this game that would make me not like it. The gameplay is almost exactly as it was in 2013 and has very few improvements. The graphics look good as they should being 2020. The story is what this game is all about. Trust me when I say that without the great story of the first one it would have been a very mediocre game itself. I just dont understand how nobody at the company was able to say "Uhum......this is not going to go over well because the story is SH!T" After the death of Joel i completely uninstalled. It doesn't help that I wish I didn't stay away from the leaks so I didn't have to waste my and gf's time with this story. We both agreed to treat this as a fanfic and not cannon. We aren’t looking for a sad, pathetic, try hard poetic ending, we are looking for something that makes us feel good, like a bad ass. A lot of reason for people playing games is to have fun, or escape from reality. I’m not looking for a deep ending, just something that I enjoy. I mean, its the worst story that I have ever seen in a video game! Naughty Dog made Joel a stupid man and killed the main protagonist in the first hour of the game. Ellie is now a total potato who swears revenge, her actions aren't really emotional. Then, you have to play with the killer of the best character of the game, whatta hell I don't wanna play as a character like that! The game is full of nonsense and everything looks superficial. In the end, Ellie, who transformed in a killing machine for revenge, give up on killing the villain, letting Abby alive. Really, the game sucks, man! After playing you feel dumb and realize that The Last of Us Part II the way it is doesn't make any sense. You wait 7 years and receive a garbage like that. Looks like Naughty Dog took the greatness of the first game and threw away, its really a sad thing. The graphics of the game are really good, and only that. The gameplay is the same of the first game, but the default AI is horrible.… Expand

    this game is like watching avengers endgame, but just imagine this..
    thanos wiped-out 50% of all living creatures, and he murdered all the avengers in a very horrible way except for thor & thor was watching thanos when he killed all of his friends, so thor goes out for revenge kills everyone standing in his way & finally gets the chance to revenge, but changes his mind at the very last second for wtv reason..
    doesn't make any sense right?
    they are trying so hard to justify what abby did and show you that she is not a bad person, so they force you to play as her to see her point of view to all of this.
    imo.. making the vaccine should've been ellie's choice but since she was drugged, it was joel's choice, he is the one who traveled half of the country with her, who kept her alive & they bonded together, he was like a father to her.
    it wasn't marlene's choice, and sure as hell it wasn't "Jerry" choice either so both of them can go die or wtv.
    what he did was kinda justified because he was just protecting his "daughter" & when this doc tried to stop him, joel had no choice but to shoot him.
    so joel is on the right side here not this stupid doc or his daughter.
    other things that i didn't like is..
    almost none of these new characters had a backstory which is just stupid lol *except for abby ofc haha"
    i don't like how they won't lot you choose or do anything, you just keep playing until you reach this stupid ending, like if it was up to me to choose i'd have stayed at the farm & that's almost good ending to me..
    i also don't like how they edited the storyline idk that for sure but "Official Story Trailer" looked different from the final game so yeah..
    i also think that naughty dog is one of the best studios out there, but i don't think i'm going to trust them or buy any games from this studio anymore until they kick "neil druckmann" out & i'm pretty much done with pre-ordering games.

    this game takes about 25 hours to beat, half of them are wasted because of "locked doors" and trying to find a way in, fighting infected, & trying to find materials, it can be really boring.

    i just finished the game so i'm sorry for any grammar mistakes i'm still processing this stupid sad ending can't believe i've waited 4 years for this bs..    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a huge let down. It took over an hour to try and do what the first game did in 15 minutes and failed at it miserably. It’s majority a walking simulator with pretty textures put on bad models. Over half the game is you playing as the main antagonist of the game and you don’t even get the satisfaction of kill that person for what they’ve done to you. You story is full of plot holes and dumb twists that don’t make any sense when you stop to think about it SPOILERS AHEAD. Why did Abby leave Ellie and Tommy alive? Sure, she was there to kill Joel but both Tommy and Ellie had seen them and obviously due to Ellie’s reaction and Tommy be his brother Abby would have had to have known they’d come after her. Why did Ellie only realize revenge is bad after she’d already killed literally everyone else who was involved? Why would Joel follow Abby back to her group when he’d always been suspicious of everyone he’d ever met up until that point? And why of all the people they could have chosen was it the doctor’s daughter who came after Joel. Joel has spent 20 years doing awful things before he met Ellie. Of all the people he must have hurt and killed in that time it was the random doctor who was hell bent on killing Ellie for the cure that comes back to haunt Joel. I remember playing that part of the first game, I didn’t feel bad for killing the doctor, I killed him and his entire team because they were going to kill Ellie who I as they player cared about. This game has single handedly ruined my trust in Naughty Dog. I don’t trust that what they tell me about their games is true anymore and I don’t trust that they’ll be capable of writing a competent story from this point forward. This game gets a 1 solely because the game was stable and playable. It was not fun, it was not entertaining, and worst of all it was a disgrace to first half of the story we got 7 years ago. Naughty Dog needs the let the Last of Us die because I know, as a fan of their game up to now, I won’t be playing the next one.… Expand

    Several mistakes were made in this game. The direction of the story is terrible and it leads the player feeling empty because there is nothing gained or learned from this entry and could possibly just be ignored. If you're looking for entertainment and a heartwarming story or enriching experience, this is NOT it.

    If this game wasn't "the last of us",
    If the protagonist wasn't Elie,
    It sure would be one of the best games of the year.
    It´s too sad to see the creators break the beautiful bond between part 1 and 2. and that there is not a story that moved us or the immovable relationship between Joel and Elie

I do not need to be taught these baby lessons, especially not from a game that I held dear to my heart. Games are meant to get us away from the world and take us to a nice, bad-ass, and just a simple great place... not to be my parent or mentor and try to kill off dear to heart characters to prove a point/message. SECONDLY, do not hide behind this message and use this as a scapegoat to say that IF YOU THINK ITS BAD, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE AND YOUR BAD AND YOU JUST HATE WOMEN AND BLAH BLAH BLAH.. I cannot believe a game that has been waited for 7 years and played for 20+ hours, has glitches, wonky game mechanics, and SAME GAMEPLAY FROM FIRST ONE AND ALSO 7 YEARS TO TEACH ME A LESSON ABOUT REVENGE ?!?!?!?!??!?! Joel took Ellie as a daughter, a daughter that Joel lost in the first game, and that first one you guys beautifully put together...And in the ending of the first game any father if put in that situation would've saved his daughters life.. and killing one doctor that if he just let her go and NOT POINTED A KNIFE AT HIM SO HAPPENED TO BE THE DAUGHTER OF THIS RANDOM WOMAN.. If you wanna talk a message then 2 wrongs don't make a right and her coming to kill Joel was WRONG if you wanna talk messages and you could've made it any other way if you wanted to introduce this character 'Abby' by making her come for Joel and not being able to do it (Kill Joel) and forgive him and understand what the circumstances might've been and JOEL WE ALL KNOW WOULDVE APOLOGIZED AND BEEN KIND.. This story was just a wannabe hard hitting emotional wreck that doesnt need to be there. Imagine if in Modern Warfare 2 chasing General Shepard for killing Ghost and Roach and being in the moment of killing him and STOPPING BECAUSE "REVENGE NO GOOD" we're not 3 years old. That game (CoD Modern Warfare 2) would've been a disaster if they didn't kill General Shepard, and I don't care if you guys killed Joel but in the way that you did as if he deserved such a horrible gruesome scene ?? If he died in an honorable way and towards the end to make it more satisfactory for the players than fine.. this is a GAME not a Life Lesson and you destroyed the game trying to act as if this wasn't a game and a life lesson.. Wow and such a pathetic scapegoat to make Joel and Tommy look stupid like babies too who don't know the rules of survival, to be wary of who you trust ? This is just awful, you guys wrote this game as if the first one never existed.. so sad and I am not here just to hate.. I won’t lie though the graphics and sound of this game were incredible. The gameplay was chill kinda like the first one but they’ve added stuff like a pointless jumping mechanic. But honestly I never cared about TLOU 1 for its gameplay because I was completely engrossed in the story. This one was not the sequel it deserved. Anyone saying if you don’t like the story you are homophobic or transphobic is using these marginalized communities to hide behind the horrible story telling and poor character development. This story is about revenge and anger and you’re telling me it took Naughty Dog 7 years to come up with the only way for Ellie to realize the devastation of revenge by killing a pregnant woman?!?! Mind you that same woman wanted to go fight while being how many months pregnant? Do better. You don’t even sympathize with Abby’s crew cause there no reasonable backstory for them and are not relatable. The game is not re-playable and there’s no multiplayer. Not worth $60 imo. Although I did enjoy fighting Ellie in the theater and the different ways she would take out Abby with a shotgun!… Expand

    This game is just as bad as mass effect 3. I feel nothing but a huge, huge disappointment. Just the same mass effect 3 again. Wasted my time and money. Would never ever buy any naughty dog product from now on and forever, just like I never bought anything bioware-related after me3 fiasco.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
