    Everything about this game is good. But the story is awful. First Joel's death should been in the middle of the game instead the first 2 hours of it. Second Joel's death is meaningless because ellie doesn't kill abby at the end. So Joel died for nothing. Third you have to play as Abby who just killed Joel so **** that. Lastly **** naughty dog.

    The story of part 1 is so epic. It has become my favorite game of all time. I played it so many times on different difficulties. And I couldnt wait for the moment to play part 2.
    And now I cant even tell how disappointed I am. The story of part 2 is so horrible. Abby is a horrible char. Naughty Dog you destroyed your own legend!!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Joel was a good man, a single father who did his best to take care of his daughter. When the world ended, he tried to escape with it, but a military barrier ended that hope. He became a bitter, violent man and lost all reason to live.
    One day he receives a mission, escorting a girl to the Fireflies. Reluctantly he accepts and, to his surprise, begins to develop feelings for the girl. It keeps you alive and safe all the way, no matter what needs to be done. In the end he discovers that fate would once again take his girl, he does not agree and sacrifices the whole of humanity to save the girl, he then lives with the burden of being responsible for having taken - perhaps - the only way to salvation of the world.
    He knows that when she finds out, she will be furious with him, yet she doesn't regret what she did and moves on, with the weight of all these and future deaths on her back.
    Joel - years later - is brutally murdered by Abby, daughter of the doctor who would kill Ellie on the operating table, a clear violation of the Hippocratic oath he once took. That man THREATENS him with a scalpel and stands between him and his daughter. That man made his choice, he could have just run out of the room, he kills that man.
    Joel dies without regrets, he would do it all over again.
    Then it is time for Ellie to avenge her father, whose sin that led him to die was to have saved his life in the past. Ellie can't do this, she can't stand to live with her hands full of blood and lets her father's murderer get away with it, to live contentedly with the revenge she did. The only person she really needs to kill, that she had reason to hate and kill - not just survive - she lets out, out of weakness. Ellie doesn't deserve Joel's love.    … Expand

The whole plot, and Joel's death being the spotlight of it, was just a huge shock value **** show, in which tragic events take place to our beloved heroes of the previous game just so can feel shocked and sad. Very cheap way to attract emotion. If you are fan of the original The Last Of Us, do yourself a favor and never buy this game. Matter of fact, delete it from your memory.     The 10 scores are agenda shills, and the 0's are jaded fans. This game is a solid 1. It is beautiful, and usually, that would be worth more points taken as a whole. Pictures and paintings can also be beautiful, but you wouldn't want to stare at them for hours on end, nor would you call them a video game., so even though the graphics would be worth more than 1 point, you lose points fromThe 10 scores are agenda shills, and the 0's are jaded fans.     The only positive thing about this game is the visual (that's why I give 1 point), but other than that poor storytelling, completely illogical character choices, way too PC and probably the worst ending in videogame history. Up until this game I've been a huge Naughty Dog fan (platinumed all previous games) but now I'm just sad, disappointed, and empty...

    even without good graphics and decent gameplay, the experience was ruined by the story, deception, and lies. They tried to force their opinion instead of making you think about the plot of the game.
    The first one was focused on 2 characters and tell the story about what love and loss is.

    The last of us was how I first got into video games. I've been waiting seven years to feel that way again. Then I discover that the writers actually butchered part 2. The storyline is predictable, not unique, and is massively hypocritical in terms of the so called 'message'. The filler content is very boring. They did an awful job, what a waste of money and a massive disservice to the fans.

They do not do right by Joel, Ellie, and Tommy... they totally ruined those characters personalities, traits, skills, and tendencies.     -The first game was awesome for it's time , a nice father-daughter story in the middle of an apocalypse trying yo survive and make allies. Even the Prequel DLC had a good story too, everyone loved those campaigns still to this day.

    So... what's the problem with this "sequel" ?
    The first minutes are good and shows us how the protagonists re living after the first game but in a couple of hours.... boom
    They kill the most beloved character of the franchise, because of a "girl"? Who wanted revenge against him for killing his father in the first game.

    So the game make us want to take revenge against that girl and his crew and we do.
    We kill almost every friend of her as she kills some of out allies too, and in the end...
    WE FORGIVE HER ??!!!
    I don't know who exactly was the dumbass who write this ending (actually i think we all do) but .You makes take revenge against all of her friends just to make us forgive Her for killing Ellie's father figure ?
    That's the most stupid plot i've ever seen .
    If you're gonna make a revenge story then we should, idk....

    Also , the journalists try to defend this game with one single argument: " If you don't like the game then you are all homophobic "

    The game has GOOD graphics and GOOD music.
    But come on , The Story ending it's Stupid

    Take as Example for a Revenge story the Destiny 2 Forsaken plot:
    They kill a beloved friend of ours and we swear to take revenge with our hands. So we go and kill The Barons( The ones who helped the antagonist to kill that friend ) , then in the end our character and an ally are in front of him about to kill him , but he asks
    " The light between light and dark is so thin, which side are you on ? "
    That makes our character doubt but we stil point at him with our gun , in the end , the screen goes black and we hear a gunshot.

    We don't know if we did kill him or our ally did, but we know he is now dead , and that gives us a relief completing our Revenge Crusade , we later have to deal with the consequences of killing him but it's still a good plot.

    I don't know why ND had to make such an bad ending. It could 've been a good game ...
    So sad ended this way

    PD : Was that s3x scene so necesary for the plot of the game ?
    So sony doesn't allow anime tiddies but allows this kind of scene ? WTF is wrong with them ?    … Expand

    The plot is bad and without propaganda motives, because there was nothing alive and interesting in it. After the ending of the first part, I thought that the game would continue the already strained relationship of Ally and Joel after he deceived her, but no. Eat Abby with all her muscles.     This game was really pretty bad, I bought it and played it all the way through. The character development was written by a bunch of idiots. It tries to be super edgy and just comes off as if it is written by a child. I could not recommend the story of this game less.

I loved the first game so much and to ruin such a powerful game with part 2 is a tragedy. I don’t care that people say it’s their game they can make it how they want, NO. It’s for the fans and to kill off Joel with no meaning whatsoever is sickening. Yes he was a bad guy, but who cares we loved the first one for His and Ellie’s relationship. NO ONE CARES about a new character that you wanted to add. This game virtually has no replay value, I don’t ever want to believe this game and story is real. Like it make me want to quit gaming all together because I was looking forward to another impactful emotional story that involved Joel and Ellie. Nothing about this is fun. They think how unique and out of the box they were while making this game, but you destroyed a franchise.     The story, narrative and creative choices regarding characters are almost unforgivably bad, especially compared to the first game. While trying to subvert expectations, The Last of Us part 2 still goes with a generic revenge plot, and doing so (quite literally)    I’ll just start with: wow, what a disappointment. The graphics, animations, and voice acting are actually good, but that’s it.

    This took all the great things from the first game and discarded them. Instead it's violence for the sake of being violent. It fails to earn its narrative with poor writing and no empathy for Ellie or Abby. It's not worth the price and it isn't worth the slog.

No estoy en contra de la historia, pero hay que saber cuándo son los momentos indicados para lo que va a acontecer con cada personaje de la historia principal. No es malo generar lastima, pero creo que desde mi opinión el juego da un mal sabor de boca. MeDoy esta mala nota. No por los gráficos o por la jugabilidad. Realmente la historia era todo para mi en este juego y lo arruinaron.     Before I say things I want to make clear that I love the first game... and i was looking forward to this one.
    My game was in my mailbox the 20th of this month and I threw it in my ps4 as soon as I walked in.
    first 2 hours is just looking at the graphics and how smooth everything is.
    loved the way how you just stepped back in a universe that I missed the last 6 years.
    I played the first game about 10-15 times in every mode available just to be with Joel and Ellie.
    So when the Joel thing happened I was shocked and in tears.
    I had to lay down my controller and pour myself a drink, 6 years of playing joel every few months just died on me. But with the road to vengeance ahead I was still enthiousiastic. and then **** just went down the drain.
    Playing as Abbie just made the game suck.
    I DONT WANT ABBIE **** ABBIE. I disliked this souped up terminator muscle manwoman.
    So i thought let met just finish the abby part quick so i can get back to ellie.
    But **** that is 50% of the game. YOU PLAY HALF THE GAME AS THE GIRL WHO KILLED JOEL.
    And as a cherry on a **** filled pie you have to play against Ellie and almost kill her.
    after that **** part you get to play as Ellie and finnaly try to kill this elon muscle.
    after killing about 250+ men and woman you suddenly remember that killin s bad mkay and you get home without being able to fingerbang yourself and you try to play retarded guitar.
    Whatuh****, the man who wrote this must be drunk.

It might even have another name instead of The Last Of Us Part 2 and it wouldn't make any difference. Although the graphics are great the story, which has always been the main focus of this franchise, is very bad and ridiculous. An unnecessary and generic story of revenge, full of flat characters and without purpose. Joel's death was done in a forced way. He was tortured to death by a character that the player is later forced to control. So the game tries to get the player to sympathize with this new character called Abby (the person who tortured Joel to death) through cheap tricks like petting dogs, saving children, showing the same flashback of the firefly hospital several times. I'm not sad about Joel's death, many expected this, but the way he died was undoubtedly questionable. This death, however, is not the biggest problem, the development of the characters is bad too. The game mischaracterizes all the old characters in order to promote new ones that are extremely forced and artificial as well as the context and situation in which they appear. The plot, despite trying, does not manage to be as deep as the original, I didn’t feel so much impact controlling both sides of the story because I found certain script decisions forced, especially the situations involving the new characters.… Expand

    A huge disappointment. I can't believe I've waited for this utter trash for so long. The plot, the characters that we loved? All ruined. The game has good graphics, however, not gonna lie. The graphics alone though cannot make me love the game. Who would have thought?
    I doubt I'm gonna buy any more games from Naughty Dog as long as Neil Duckman is in charge.

This game looks great and plays better than the last, adding a few innovations to combat, and graphical fidelity that can be utilized by other devs. In terms of looking good, and sounding good this game is a 10. Where it fails is in establishing a cohesive, rational story. Expect flash backs inside of flash backs. I believe this game was pulled down by one man's ego, the director's, an ego that was fulled by sycophants in the industry, who think that games are a product for people pretending to be 'high art' connoisseurs--instead of the average gamer. The director, Druckmann, has made it clear that he doesn't care about the average gamer, and has stated many times that he hopes that said people hate the game, and not to expect even a modicum of fun, and or light as was found in the first. What you get is a shallow, predictable, and cliche story about revenge. A story that feels so different from the first, that it feels like a sad parody. Characters will be behaviorally unrecognizable, the pacing is off, don't expect to see giraffe's walking through the sunlight, and other such moments. Bruce Straley's influence is gone, and without anyone to balance him out, Druckmann's whims are on full display.

    What you get is a nihilistic, petulant, incongruous mess, that seems to have been designed as an insult to core fans. You will feel this in how npcs, and by extension your intelligence is treated by a game that does everything in its power to tell you that an unrepentant psychopath is the way forward for this series. Not to mention the meta aspect, where Druckmann is doing everything in his power, to convince twitter, that his inflated ego (he would call it his 'substantial IQ') is the best way forward for a once revered gaming company. We're talking about a guy who calls an awkwardly misplaced sex scene in the back of a dirty van, 'tasteful'. And yes, that's also what you get in this game.

    To summarize, The Last of Us Part II is so detached from what made the first game great, and lacking any respect for its past, fans will hardly recognize it. If you like pretentious, suffer porn, where you can set dogs on fire, this is the game for you.    … Expand

    But the story is so bad that it feels like an insult, relying on cheap shock value at several points. Introducing a new playable character and having her brutally murder Joel BEFORE giving players a chance to sympathize with her does not work, and then being forced to play as her for a large chunk of the game where you even have to beat the living crap out of Ellie is just a straight-up middlefinger to anyone who loved the first game.
    Of all the new characters introduced, Lev is probably the only one I liked, the rest of them were just there so Ellie and Abby wouldn’t be talking to themselves. At at least three points, companions on both sides even get suddenly killed off (cheap shock value) without any real feeling of loss.
    And the ending is just a joke, after murdering her way through Seattle and Santa Barbara, Ellie suddenly decides that revenge/killing is bad and lets Abby get away.
    Like I said, gameplay and graphics were good, but nothing groundbreaking. So the one point I have to give is for the ability to play with dogs trough out the game, because dogs are always good bois, except you Naughty Dog, shame on you.    … Expand

Still hasnt addressed ellies immunity, I highly doubt there was only one person alive that could develop a cure. Bouts of long exploration followed by 10 minutes of action, exploration was boring. Forced you to explore for collectibles. I was more interested in the story from the letters then the games story. Completely mealiness ending, kills everyone else for revenge but the person who actually killed joel, even kills a pregnant woman. Forced ending, forces you to fight a group with no context besides that they take prisoners for forced labor. Ellie loses her fingers in the last fight and cant leave joels guitar legacy behind unless she learns to play the guitar lefty. Very poorly written and leaves you with more questions about what happens at the end. Unfulfilling.… Expand

    Why I can't stop thinking that this game is another example of female empowering and LGBT support gone wrong?

    BTW I do have respect for female empowering and LGBT community.

    I believe what TLoR got it's popularity is mainly because of its story.
    I understand their agenda of revenge and break the chain of blood/revenge. And I understand someone's justice can be tragic for someone. But it DOESN'T have to place that in second part of TLoR where the the main theme of first game story is based on post-apocalypse survival of two who have father and daughter like relationship.

    It does not necessary to have this kinda of agenda into second part by TRASHING the first part.

    Progressive? Bold Move? They could have done this in 3rd part of LoTR or fresh installment where ellie and joel is not part of it.

    Killing Joel too early in the game without much of character development and story development just for shock of audience to make players feel bad for killing npc delivered horribly wrong. Therefore I just cannot focus on game anymore.

    I believe the Neil want to have feminism incorporate in the game so he need to kill of male protagonist. And end up two female protagonists.

    Why they didn't make abby male protagonist? With that kinda of physical body, it would be perfectly fine to use male protagonist. But they did not because of feminism they wanted to include in the game.

    I feel like players are just for social experiment for female empowering and LGBT things.

    I don't mind having lesbian protagonist and female protagonist as long as story is good. But this story is just BS. Just feel like i'm in social experiment that Neil decided to conduct for 2020 just like Hollywood movie where female empowering and LGBT things going on.

    I felt like action of the NPC spat on Joel's dead body is exactly same as Neil Druckmann spat on first TLoR's dead body. You just killed that first TLoR like that and humiliate those who loved frist TLoR.
    And lastly, false advertising from the trailer just made me mad even more.

    At the end, Ellie being alone not even with Dina anymore, why even bother to use title of The Last of Us? Because you save two people at the end? The is more like The Last of Me.    … Expand

    The Last of Us 2 ist kein schlechtes Spiel, wenn man das Spiel neutral und unabhängig vom ersten Teil bewerten muss. Jedoch ist das Spiel kein unabhängiges Spiel und für Spieler des ersten Teils, ist es auch nahe zu möglich das Spiel neutral zu bewerten, zumal das Spiel in die Riesigen Fußstapfen des ersten Teiles treten muss.
    Im Spiel wurden sehr große Fehler bei der Story gemacht die das Spiel zum Teil unspielbar für mich gemacht haben (Vorsicht Spoiler) z.B. spielt man gefühlt Abby die Mörderin von Joel länger als Elie. Diese Entscheidung hat zur Folge, dass ich keine Gefühle zu Elie, die im ersten Teil Hervorragend geschrieben ist, aufbauen kann und das Spiel einen dazu zwingen will Empathie mit Abby zu haben und sie Sympathisch zu finden. Dies geht jedoch, meiner Auffassung nach, Komplett nach hinten los. Du sollst zu jemanden Gefühle innerhalb von ca. 6/7 Stunden empfinden der Joel getötet hat und das auch noch auf eine Art und Weise die vollkommen Überzogen und Gestellt gewirkt hat
    Ich fasse zusammen der erste große Fehler war es Abby mehr Spielzeit zu geben.

    Der zweite große Kritikpunkt ist die Darstellung von Elie.
    Die liebes Beziehung von Elie ist ja schön und gut aber es hat in diesem Ausmaß nichts in LoU verloren. Ich bin vollkommen tolerant mit Homosexuellen und bin auch der Meinung, dass dies auch mal in Spielen behandelt werden sollte aber nicht in LoU.
    Der zweite Kritikpunkt ist somit die fehl platzierten Schwerpunkte Elies Geschichte.

    Der dritte Kritikpunkt ist die Inszenierung des ganzen.
    Das ganze Spiel hat zu viele Zufälle und das zieht die gesamte Story in lächerliche. Die sogenannten Zufälle wären Beispielsweise, das auf einander treffen von Joel und Abby , Joel handelt hier ganz anders als man es von ihm aus dem ersten Teil gewohnt ist, denn er nennt einen Unbekannten seinen Namen nachdem er ein ganzes Krankenhaus zusammen geschoßen hat. Kann ihm nicht der Gedanke kommen, dass ihn Fremde für seine Taten jagen werden ?. Das größte Problem ist aber das die beiden aufeinander treffen was für ein "Zufall". Ein weiteres Beispiel wäre das die Freundin von Abby schwanger ist und die Freundin von Elie auch was für ein "Zufall". Ich frage mich ob Naugthy Dog überhaupt kreative Schreiber hat die sich ein bisschen mehr ausdenken können als das gleiche zu Kopieren.

    Der größte Kritikpunkt ist aber, dass dem Spieler die Wahl genommen wird ob man Abby tötet oder nicht. Diese Entscheidung hätten sie jedem Spieler selbst überlassen sollen.

    Ich würd dem Spiel am liebsten null Punkte geben, aber die Szenen mit Joel waren sehr mitreißend und haben mich an die gute alte Zeit erinnern lassen.    … Expand

    just finished the campaign, took me 4 days to even complete and i have to say, the game is absolutely beautiful and game play is a MASTERPIECE however the story is absolutely stupid. i did not like playing as the villan as they try to **** constantly try to make her seem as the victim, it pisses me off more how the developers are even more blind to the rants. Neil even said the game would be about Joel and Ellie, but instead its about abby and her naive story. it also sucks how games de-femanize females to make them "strong" when infact its the other way around. you can have boobs and still be strong. games with movements like this are almost calling themselves homophobes in a way. I hate that joel even saved her life, but she still ignored that. The story is a mess and i dont want to play as **** abby for 10 hours. Random ass character without any real decent backstory or likeable qualities.

    also realized i had trouble leaving a negative review. however i am able to, but when i leave a negative review it only bumps the positive scoring up... interesting.. hope a youtuber see's this and notices this and brings this to light ( Sorry new to english still :) )

Again critics are getting paid to give this game an OVERLY HIGH score or maybe it just tickles their political views in just the right way to ignore the glaring problems with both the characters and the story which are the main reasons to actually play these games. I am already seeing the crazy polical correct army coming out with the narrative "OH these are just trolls who hate strong independent women and lesbian relationship" . Idiots most of the people that play these games prefer strong women and not the "save me" type of characters. Again in the first 3 games of ME I am certain 90% of the people played both Mshep and Fshep and 100% were in relationship with a female on the crew, same as the Dragon age series and many others. In every such game female characters are ones of the most beloved even if they are straight, bi or homosexual. Sexuality of characters has never been much of an issue for most gamers, it is just the idiotic beliefs of "Gaming journalists" and "Proffessional gaming reviewers". All in all the best thing of the first Last fo Us was the story and the characters, that is what it made it a masterpiece. Those 2 things in the last of us 2 are the worst part of the game....As such how can critics give it 100 I do not know.… Expand

De verdad es un juego decepcionante, con una historia sumamente mal escrita, queriendo forzar una moral “correcta”, cuando durante toda la trama (mal escrita) Ellie mata a muchísima gente, ¿y al final decide perdonarle la vida a sólo una persona? La cual es responsable de matar a un personaje muy querido de una manera cobarde, sometiéndolo entre varias personas, sin honor alguno, torturándolo, además de que Joel acababa de salvarle la vida... y todavía piensan que puedes tener un poco de empatía con un personaje (Abby) creado con una moral, creencias y acciones forzadas, a conveniencia de un guión tan pobre y manipulado por su creador.
    Que por cierto, la confianza de Joel hacia unos desconocidos en esta 2da parte es sumamente incongruente con lo que te establecen en el 1er juego., si hubo una “evolución” en el personaje ni siquiera se molestan en explicarlo.    … Expand

    Amazing soundtrack.
    Same gameplay more or less like first game but still awesome nonetheless. BUT the story is so inconsistent, it's unbelievable : Joel and Tommy would NEVER walk into a room with a bunch of unknown people like that, Joel walking right in the middle like ?!?!?!? Defeats the purpose of the character narrative from the first game. Even if he softened up and all, he'd be soft to all familiar people (Jackson; people he knows) and even if it's a blizzard or w/e he'd still be cautious. And when Ellie goes through the door to save him, Manny doesn't let Jordan kick her more then at the end he tries to shoot her, like what ?!?!?! And Mel who's "traumatized" from torturing Joel is like "we shouldn't leave any loose ends" lol. HOW CAN A PREGNANT WOMAN CLIMB ROPES , BALANCE HERSELF ON SMALL POLES, JUMP FROM STUPID HEIGHTS, FIGHTS AND EXPLOSIONS AND CAR CRASHES,.. ?!?! And the Seraphites, Lev and Yara talkin casually as if they're not part of that cult and growing up scarred and all, whaaaat?! And whenever an enemy dies "marco, omar, jhonny, nooo" shoulda given me the option to write letters to their families too, and bury them and all too, who cares, one twice, not evvveerry encounter, I'll never be attached to them nor care ^oh look we gave different names to every npc^ and most definitely wouldn't care about Abby even if you make me play her 20 more hours, it feels so forced and so inconsistent and pathetic. So many more stuff is unfathomable. Anyways,tbh most fun I had is "killing myself as Abby OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN" especially vs Ellie, god those death animations felt so good. Very poor pacing. Game tries to disorient me and force me to try to even care about badly written characters. Story feels so lacking and disespectful to its amazing first game.Trash writing.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
