    Amazing gameplay and graphics but I think like a lot of people, I bought this game because of Joel and Ellie and the story is not great at all.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Look at the trailers, and look at the final game... Joel is used as a big marketing material in this game, nothing else. Killing off such a memorable character, and spitting on his bashed skull, by a character we don't care about at all, is the dumbest move in the history of all videogame stories. Graphics wise, a phenomenal jump. Gameplay wise, atmosphere wise, a revolutionary jump. But the sad news is, no one played TLOU 1 for the graphics or gameplay, they played it for the next cut-scene, for the storyline.

    They used Joel as a marketing material, and didn't even give him a respectable death, if his death was that necessary. Joel, a survivor for 30+ years in this apocalypse, openly trusts Abby's group and says his name in front of an armed group. The intention of naughty dog is to make Joel, one of the best videogame characters, a stupid person, who would literally let his guard down in front of an armed stranger group?

    And the ending is the worst. Why play with Abby's perspective for 10+ hours, when in the end Ellie spares Abby, losing everything, hir girl, her father figure, and even her fingers. This game doesn't feel even a bit like the first game, only the backstory is the most memorable part in this game, and that's why it earned a 1/10 from me. PS4's most anticipated game, is basically a spit on the face of it's fans.    … Expand

    Absolute garbage! Completely **** on the narrative of the first game. Nothing particularly special about the game play after the first few hours... Spend your money on something else... Anything else!

    I like the ending and plot of Part1 very much, But the whole story of the second one is terrible,
    It's a game made to hurt the mind of players, be rather baffling.

    I can't believe my eyes! This game is awful. I waited a new part for so many years and now I'm so disappointed. Ok, I can forgive uncomfortable gameplay and stupid enemies. But a story... Some episodes are beyond cruelty - they're unreasonable. This is a player mockery. "Thanks" for betraying the main characters & fans. That's all.

    BUT if it comes to the storyline and storytelling of the game i really start to wonder if movies and games are made for the paying fans or to force some peoples agendas onto the customers?!

    4. The promotion of this game is all about deceptive marketing, false advertisement, misleading message, and dishonest influencer content marketing. This is absolutely intolerable! This is absolutely illegal!

    Yes, you could definitely go ahead to buy and try this game. But, apparently, you could spend money much more wisely under this unprecedented economic downturn.    … Expand

Well, some shock value can be interesting but to be shocked by "torture porn" as many have called it, and the shock of having to play as a lesbian, well, you can have that shock!     This game is trash , I really want to give it a 0/10 but the beautiful graphics and gameplay that is so fluid makes me at least give it that. It literally spits in your face with plot twists that make just about no sense to a video game , at least makes no sense in a way that Devs would actually want there plot to be that bad and just have HUGE holes . Love how it looks, but the clunky game play and poor Narrative of story is just a major letdown, killing off main characters who are loved and drove the story to a point has been done in the past and it has been done right many times, this game didn't do a great job with the same, I get all the hate around that but the actual dislike for the game itself stems from how the plot fails to wrap up the story in the way it should have, justifying the route they decided to go with it, if there is a 3rd installment and they can redeem themselves from the half baked writing this time around. But for now I'll not be going beyond the demo and play through's.

    Bad on the studio going rogue on the dev's and artists and forcing them through crunches by underpaying or straight up denying pay and firing off staff to keep the others in check.    … Expand

Yes, its nice to watch and listen this game, gameplay hasnt changed much, but story is so bad that I hated to play it. Why would I want to play as Abby? Neil Druckman said they idea of playing for someone else instead of Joel or Ellie is bad and here we are. I dont want to play for Abby half of the game which kills Joel, who saved her life before in the game and then watch Joel and Tommy doing dumb decision´s like offering WLF to visit Jackson to restock and resupply :D Joel recognize trap in the original game and now he is blind? It´s sad. I will pretend that TLOU2 didnt happen and everything ended how it was supposed to in the original game.… Expand

    I have noticed that something went a bit off the rails soon after Left Behind. In the first game, Ellie talks about Ryley as someone she loved, her best friend, and while playing Left Behind we see the bond between the two, the friendship that evolves in pure love. Ellie wasn't Ellie anymore she was a lesbian, no more Ellie in love but a damn label, a banner to wave to make a statement... all the press praise was mostly not about the game, but about the political statement. At that moment Ellie died, she turned into a cliche, a flat portrait of what she was... ruining the development of this game.
    The whole game is permeated of this "we must make a statement" thing, and that damaged the characters a lot. The story doesn't flow naturally, it is so forced that it hurts - in the first game when we met Bill, his arc was already written, the fact that the actor W. Earl Brown decided that his partnership with Frank was romantic, it didn't change Bill behavior, the character just got deeper not only because he was gay, but because love was involved - Part II was au contraire built not around the characters, but around what they should represent, all about the label. Who cares if Joel since the beginning never trusted strangers and even decided to leave a family to die "someone will stop eventually". Who cares if every single time he trusted a stranger, someone he loved died; he trusts the soldier and Sarah dies, he trusts Marlene and Tess dies (and Ellie was about to die), he trusts Henry because of Sam (raiders don't hang out with kids) and as soon as he starts to like them, they die.
    ND throws away everything out of the window because they needed Abby to become the strong lead of the game. That was not possible if Joel was still Joel from the first game, we needed him to forget about his past and act unnaturally, we needed him to trust strangers. We needed Tommy that saluted newcomers with shotguns pointed to their heads to turn into Mr. "Welcome to my place". We needed Abby to leave Ellie alive knowing she will eventually track her down, just like she just did with Joel. Bear in mind that we are in the same world where Joel that is no saint nor fool, killed in cold blood Marlene - just in case.
    I wish that Ellie wasn't turned into an icon, I wish Neil Druckman might have had the chance to let the character and the story evolve naturally, without having to make a statement. ND already had a game with 2 female lead that did great, something to take inspiration from: "Uncharted The Lost Legacy", that game didn't have to make a statement and flowed just fine, being really progressive but somewhat "under the radar".

    Basically all you have loved about the believable people in the first game is gone... there's nothing for us here, just plain forced character and bad storytelling.    … Expand

I am writing this review as I have just beaten the game I am honestly physically hurting from playing the last of us 2 I went into the last of us 2 hoping it would be better than what most people were saying I was god wrong this game is beyond horrible there are no words for how bad this game is the gameplay itself is solid but I cannot fathom how this game was even put out considering the story and how awfully the characters are written this game should not have been made honestly they should've just kept it with the last of us 1, lets start with the characters 1:ellie she is no longer an interesting character they made no effort to have her change except "joel you should've let them kill me at the hospital!!!!!!!" dina:she literally has like 5 lines in the game she was wasted potential joel and tommy are still exactly the same except joel gets treated dirty and dies within 2 HOURS of the games beginning completely heartbreaking how they just kill him off like that. abby:awful character her motives literally make no sense joel shot and killed her dad in the hospital cause he wouldn't give him ellie so she tracks down tommy and joel and brutally slowly and mercilessly tortures joel then gets mad at ellie for trying to kill her because she "lEt hEr liVe" like you murdered basically her dad and now she comes back for revenge??? like who would expect someone to do that. the ending is the worst video game ending in history ellie rescues abby then says "im not letting you leave" and they fight for like 5 minutes and ellie just drowns her hops off then lets her leave the game tries to justify ellie doing that by showing a flashback of her and joel sitting on a porch drinking coffee but instead of getting revenge for the murder of joel she just simply lets them go theres a difference between letting go of the past and just letting a murderer live basically what the end says to me is "we are lazy take this ending as ellie letting go of the past and not letting revenge consume her" but in reality its just a huge slap in the face to people who grew up with and played the last of us 1 completely utterly awful ending. graphically the game is pretty the boat and horse sections are cool and some of the puzzles are alright half of the game takes place in a rainy setting which kinda sucks but it was still pretty looking the end was espescially pretty looking with the sun being out it definitely makes for a happier mood for the game. in my last words I hope naughty dog just makes the most of what they have now and just learn from there mistakes and never hire neil druckmann again and continue on for a more brighter path maybe another uncharted game will bring the love back for naughty dog but to me this game is a travesty to everyone who played the last of us 1 and any other naughty dog game and I don't know if il ever purchase another naughty dog product I probably will but I don't know if il spend a full 60 like I did on this game but I think naughty dog will hopefully bounce back after this game and continue back where they were after uncharted 4 (I think?) the game they released before they announced the last of us 2 I sincerely hope they don't continue to dig a hole for themselves by sponsoring this game and misleading people about what the game is really about. this game truly had potential maybe they will make a DLC that clears some things up and continues parts of the story that people didn't like I give this game a 1 the only reason it gets a one is because of the gameplay mechanics and graphics without all that its a zero i would not recommend this game at a 60 dollar price at all not even a 20$ price i actually would recommend replaying the last of us 1 or replaying the entire uncharted series cause this game has left a horrid taste in my mouth that needs to be removed with good naughty dog games… Expand

    This had so much potential. It's sad to see characters from the first movie make completely out of sync decisions. You know Joel from the last of us? The guy that could spot an ambush cos it didn't feel right? Well now he just walks into the middle of a room with a bunch of strangers. I understand that there is a time jump, but some of the character's motivations made no sense to me. At the same time, I understand the source for Abby's revenge, but it fell flat due to no proper build up to sympathize with her. As far as Ellie, she is obviously justified in her revenge, but at the end of the day, there is no pay off. To subvert player expectations just to make a point that revenge will leave you nothing is, in my honest opinion, not great for video game storytelling. You do not want to alienate your fan base, because the trust they had in you is now broken. Now, when I see these writers attached to future products, I will have to think twice about purchasing their game, as the trust is now broken. The game is stunning in visual aspects, the game play is tweaked a bit(but not that different) from the first game, but as a writer, I expected a 5-Star Michelin steak dinner, and I feel like I was given a hamburger from McDonalds.… Expand

The Ellie and Joel act uncharacteristically from the first game to seemingly just fit the story line and get them to where they are supposed to be. After killing Joel you play as Abby and I couldn’t care less about her background or that her dad saved some zebra. I just wanted her dead and we don’t even get that that at the end. More than deserving of a 0/10, TLOU2 is a forced, contrived, repetitive plot that **** on the previous attachments and submits the player to a ridiculous “revenge bad” lesson that no one gains anything from. Christ you’d think 7 years and they would have found a better route to take this franchise. Characters show up and die for seemingly no reason at all, pacing is completely off compared to the first game, character development is nowhere to be found. It seems as if the writers took a vacation when it came to writing compelling characters. Forcing us to play as Abby for 10 whole hours was a very questionable decision. I can’t even believe I finished this game. By the end of my 25 hours, I have never felt less satisfaction from a game that I spent $60 on. It was so out of character for Ellie to not finish the job after killing 100s of characters on her way to make Joel’s death worth something. I don’t care what anyone says; the ending to this game was an absolute travesty, nothing is gained or learned, the developers assume you have never seen a movie before and force the revenge is bad element so damn hard that it takes you completely out of the game. This should’ve been a separate title as it is completely unbelievable that this is attached to a franchise that garnered as much acclaim as the first one. I feel bad for those who animated the game as there was definite effort put into the visual aspects, but all seems for not in the end. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME IF YOU ENJOYED THE FIRST ONE. The sheep who were paid to review this positively were done so to mislead you, this is definitely one you can skip.… Expand

    So disappointing. First game had an incredibly deep story line that had me hooked the whole way. This one was shallow, guided by the principal of "ram my wokeness down your throat". Nothing pulls you out of the immersion of a game like that does.

    All this hard work that developers put into stunning animations, graphics, sound and fluid gameplay mechanics is completely ruined by an awful story

    Oh and by the way, all of a sudden Ellie is a psychopathic maniac just to push this stupid narrative

    However that's in no way going to make this a good game because it's just messed up beyond all recognition. If you loved the first game like I did you will find nothing but disappointment here.
    While I do hate that political correctness has been injected into this game in various ways it's not the main reason to not play it, that goes to the terrible writing and direction that the story takes.
    The characters of Joel and Ellie are nothing like they were, they're now both clueless and senseless idiots, Abby is not likeable or sympathetic to trying to force players to like her is ridiculous, Joel's death wasn't unexpected but goddamn it was so poorly done that it was nothing less than insulting and the ending was probably the second worst part, after the golf scene, because it doesn't do anything. Nobody learns anything, no revenge is completed (except Abby's) and now we're just expected to leave everything unresolved and be happy with it cos "Joel plays guitar so everything is alright."
    Naughty Dog has ruined this game for political ideology, a story that is not deep, interesting, well written, artistic or clever, it's terrible messaging and it's complete lack of understanding of why people loved this franchise. The character interaction and development is gone and spat in our faces.
    Terrible, terrible game.

How are you going to kill Joel in the first two hours and force you to play as Abby? No one gives a F about her and never will. The only reason why I gave it a 1 and not a 0 is because it is one of the most technically impressive games of this generation.     Joel’s death is so meaningless and casual. Abby’s storyline is not compelling at all. The story takes vengeance as theme, yet we are forced to spare Abby’s life at the end though we have killed almost everyone in the game, which is super disgusting.

    Just the story itself deserves 0/10. That one score is the credit to superb graphics and scene setting.

The problems lie with the story. The relationship between Ellie and Dina is portrayed very well, but the treatment of Joel does feel like a slap in the face to someone invested in this series. Naughty Dog has tried to make us sympathetic with the character Abby who kills Joel, but this part of the story is grossly mishandeled. After this, the player is then forced to play half of the game as Abby who is a flat and unlikable character even with the issues pertaining to Joel aside. Huge dissappointment after a 7 year wait. I cannot understand the positive reviews by the game review companies, as I have not talked to a single person who feels anything but betrayed by this sub-par story offering by Naughty Dog.… Expand

The shooting dynamics are boring the stealth leaves so much to be desired and honestly the story feels like you just watched some revenge show on Netflix and wrote then bought the story from some freshman at film school. The script is nothing to me... there's no point in the game... the whole beginning of the game screams at you that you have to take revenge, and you light up with the idea, and at the end it's a total bottom... Ellie lets Abby go... so what's the point? So you'd leave her to live on this farm with Deena... and have no revenge, and Abby's the only one left... what's all this nonsense? They also made Joel guilty... maybe you shouldn't have killed that doctor, but nobody guaranteed that Ellie's death wouldn't be red... why Abby should have gotten revenge and Ellie would have made a stupid decision to let it go... what with all the sacrifices throughout the game... Ellie even killed a pregnant pancake to get to Abby... what the authors of the game did not understand... if you kill your favorite character from the first part and then just let it all go, then be ready for hit... graphics and gameplay on top... but the plot is certainly a bit of a drip...… Expand

    I thought it can't get any worse by this point, but the ending is even more dissapointing, not satysfying and annoying.
