    At first I thought all the negative reviews were due to the LGBT themes and disagreed with them entirely and was really enjoying the game. For the first half of the game, I'd have given it a solid 8/9. But after the disgusting second half of the game from a story perspective and also from a staling gameplay perspective, it's such an incredible disappointment. Naughty Dog were so incredibly misleading with their advertising leading up to the game release. To the point of misselling. I want my money back for their false advertising. This isn't the game anyone was sold on and we deserve refunds.
    I can't give it a 0 due to the enjoyable first half, enjoyable not perfect. But the rest of the game is an an insult to everyone everywhere who cares anything about computer games and story telling and general treatment of fans who pay these developers their wages.     Let me start by saying that I purchased the TLOU (PS3), TLOU:Left Behind (PS3) and even TLOU: Remastered on PS4, because of what a masterpiece the original game truly was. The story, graphics & animation, audio & voice acting, character development and gameplay all contributed to many playthroughs that also made me commit to my 1st Platinum trophy in the PSN.

    As you may have guessed, I    Let me start by saying that I purchased the TLOU (PS3), TLOU:Left Behind (PS3) and even TLOU: Remastered on PS4, because of what a masterpiece the original game truly was. The story, graphics & animation, audio & voice acting, character development and gameplay all contributed to many playthroughs that also made me commit to my 1st Platinum trophy in the PSN.

    As you may have guessed, I pre-ordered TLOU2 (Collector's Edition) and avoided the leaks, spoilers and reviews until I had completed the game. And now I understand all the hate and anger. Aside from technical improvements (graphics, level designs, animation, audio, etc.), TLOU2 fails miserably in its promise of a revenge theme that was highly marketed by the company and the media. And for those "professional critics" that argue that it's a subset of fans that don't like the game's progressive direction or acceptance of LGBT is absurd. It has nothing to do with that. As I mentioned earlier, I even purchased TLOU:Left Behind which clearly established Ellie's sexual orientation and it did not hinder me, a 35 yr old straight male, from enjoying the DLC because the prequel's storyline, gameplay and LGBT characters felt right at home in the survival pandemic world.

    ****** Spoiler Alert ******

    In the 2nd half of TLOU2, we get introduced to a new LGBT character (Lev) experiencing gender dysphoria within a community. Lev's background story with the Scars could've worked perfectly but Naughty Dog made a poor decision by pairing him with the character that everyone despised (Abby) and was forced to play with. It's also ridiculous to believe that these two characters would trust each other rather so quickly and willingly considering the history between their rival factions. I would've rather had Lev as an ally that worked alongside Ellie on her revenge tour. Needless to say, the general plot is unfathomable and fragmented into different timelines reminiscent of Westworld (which was probably suggested by Halley Gross) but is poorly executed with pacing issues. The characters and the supporting cast were uninteresting and remained weak throughout the game as many of them make inexplicable decisions or choices. This all traces back to the the beginning where Abby just so happens to run into Joel and Tommy. The mere fact that Joel (and Tommy) would help a complete stranger and follow back to her base to be killed so easily disrespects the intelligence of players and true fans of the original TLOU. We spent countless hours playing as Joel who was a rugged smuggler, shrewd survivor and proficient killer but never a schmuck. Naughty Dog's lazy team of writers then decides that both Tommy and Ellie's lives are spared after their encounter with Abby just so they can conveniently advance the game's plot for revenge. It's inconceivable in a prey or be preyed survival world that Abby's crew would allow having any loose ends that may set up for their own demise later down the road.

    And that's it. It's that simple. The storyline is disjointed, pointless and unrealistic from the beginning to the end. Revenge doesn't just slip from your fingers, the developers force you to give up, crying in a fetal position while you let your nemesis escape freely. And the nerve of them have a New Game+ is beyond me. I never wanted to finish a game so quickly so that I could resell my copy - and that is why you still buy physical (not digital) copies kids. After completing this frustrating journey, you are filled with nothing but depression, anger and disappointment. If this was what Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann wanted fans to truly experience emotionally, then mission accomplished.    … Expand

    No spoilers not going to write a long review. I played the first game 5 or 6 times including the remastered version. I loved it. Waited 7 years to continue the experience. This game does not do that. It takes everything that made the last one great and changed it.     Such a disappointment after 7 years of waiting and hyping up to this game, Characters are confusing, gameplay is too repetitive, games also forces you to play a character who is irrelevant on why people bought this game in the first place. Story of the game is ruined by the director. Really wished they never made this sequel in the first place.

    The story is terrible. Naughty Dogs intentionally told the story in such a way to display how "artistic" they are. What they don't realize is that they have lost the ability to distinguish good stories from bad ones. The rest of the game is fine, but the story makes the experience unenjoyable.

    they didn't add much from what we have in "uncharted" and 'the last of us part 1' and you will get bored surprisingly quick in this vast semi open world because of the poor narrative and a lot of characters that had a weak background and poorly writing story and dialogue , for god sake even the dialogue is    in short , graphics and mechanics are great since its naughty dog game but,

    I was really dissapointed in that game, the gameplay has not evolved at all, sadly it is now even more repedetive as the game is around 10h longer than the 1game.
    The grafic is gorgeous and the environments are stunning, but thats all this game really has as a positive feature.

    The story is a basic revenge story and the ending was not satisfiying at all, the characters have lost their appeal and become quite frankly dumb in their decision making and boring as the dynamic in the relationships is completely gone.    … Expand

With all the incredibly high critic scores I was really hoping for a great game, since I really enjoyed the first one. I think this whole game is a complete disappointment.     Having just completed the game yesterday I today made a Metacritic account just to express my feelings about this experience. I had huge anticipation for this game going into it with no knowledge of leaks or spoilers and I can say it starts out fantastic. Joel's death evoked emotion and was certainly a catalyst for me to want to keep playing, wanting justice for him and closure. (But it was completely out of character for Joel and Tommy to reveal their names and settlement so easily to a group of strangers) Exploring Seattle as Ellie was fun and felt nostalgic to the first game but this is where my praise for The Last Of Us II ends.

    They then throw you into the shoes of the one who brutally tortured and killed Joel and try to make you like or even care about this character and from here the pacing of the game also falls apart. Suddenly you get tons of pills and parts as Abby (I played on survivor so I was used to scarce supplies.) This made game play as Abby feel halfhearted as the sudden resource explosion rushes you down her skill paths and weapon upgrades. But here's the thing with playing as Abby: I DON'T CARE. It was disappointing to play such a huge portion of the game as a character I have no feelings for. I was always asking myself when can I get back to playing as Ellie or at least Tommy, someone that I actually care about. The further I played as Abby the more disdain I had for her. Holding light that maybe by the end of the game we'd get to see Ellie finally finish her. I hoped that Ellie would kill Abby cleanly and not torture her to show she's above that, but what we got instead was horrific.

    Making you actually attack and choke out Ellie was heartbreaking, that whole fight should have just been a cut-scene because I had no want in actually playing through its scripted sequences. After this the ante has just been upped: Abby has now also killed Tommy (at this point you see her shoot him in the head so have no idea that he'd survive) and Jesse.

    OKAY *Takes breath* Can I finally play as Ellie now? Yes, but let's just skip the whole journey south to California, throw in some generic baddies at the end (Rattlers) and wow we're here as Ellie in our long awaited confrontation with Abby. Finally is this the moment I've been waiting for and slogging through all the previous Abby game play to get to? Would this be the redeeming factor to this game and the final closure needed? No. Ellie let's Abby go after everything. But before that happens they tease you with letting you stab a knife into Abby and then begin to drown her. I wanted to give Abby a clean death but as the knife was lost at this point in the fight, drowning will have to do but nope the script takes over and Ellie let's her out of the water at the last moment. Wow...

    A better ending would have been to finish the drowning and then have Ellie bury Abby with a makeshift cross rather than just leaving her body. That would have been justified and a good closure to the game. Lev is plenty capable of surviving without Abby and this would leave it open for DLC or the next game as Lev waking up and finding Abby's grave but not remembering what happened.

    I guess I can take solace that the prisoners did say Abby was bit, so if that's true she'll die soon enough but is that proper closure? Not for me. Sorry.    … Expand

Top-notch and incredible AIs, human enemies cornering the player whenever they have the chance, not having an auto tracker on the player like tlou 1 and actually have the enemy look for you is a very big improvement! Really really liked the gameplay and graphics. But for me, the soul for tlou has always been the story, the flow of the game and all the thingsHey, the gameplay is great! To the point that there is no need of me to list all the things out, everybody else has always pointed those things out, you can just check out all the other reviews. I will not be refunding the game, as a reminder that games that had a great part 1, it's equal might not be as good as the former was, don't jump onto the hype train so quickly.… Expand

    Ok let's start with the good things:
    -very good gameplay much improved mechanics , shooting combat exploration , movement over the predecesor
    - very good atmosphere, scary and desolant places, unexpected enemies locations
    - very good sounds and music
    The bad thing over which i can't go past is: How can you Naugthy Dog put me to play as Abby the main villan of the game after investing so much in Ellie and Joel and building their story, attachment and journey ?? You just give me a cutscene and think that i will love Abby????
    I passed over the Joel death , over the bad choices but you could at least make a chapter in which to justify the Abby revenge and make and interesting plot and let me continue to play as Ellie
    The Story is Sooooo Bad .... what where they thinking ??
    I absolutley loved the first 12h even with the ups and downs ....but now i don't want to touch the controller anymore .....such a frustration and dissapointment ..    … Expand

Giving it at 1 is being nice only reason why is because the gameplay was kinda smooth, the story felt forced, the script was definitely written by 21yr old tryin to hand in a essay the hour it's due, the credit show alot of people that worked on it. I bet no one criticized it at all and they just said yes that works. Perfect boss, your gonna make history boss, Shït like that. They took a fine age game and turned it into fools gold. The way they killed Joel was just for shock value. The supporting characters didn't even play a role but to either leave or die. And the Abby was okay it was different. But again the script was so badly made I didn't care about what they were saying. And to be honest playing it on the hardest difficulty wasn't even worth it No special achievement or anything… Expand

Дело даже не в том, что происходит, дело в том, как это происходит. Убийство Джоэла поставлено неправдоподобно. Финальное решение Элли ничем кроме лицемерия не назовешь - вырезать толпу случайных людей, включая беременную женщину, но пощадить ту, ради кого вся эта заварушка затевалась, - где здесь логика?

    Показать, что месть - это плохо, можно было куда изящней. Создается впечатление бессмысленного графического насилия ради насилия.

    Персонажи... Я целиком и полностью за репрезентацию ЛГБТ в медиа и новость о Дине и Элли меня очень обрадовала. Но их отношения выглядят картонными. Подавляющее число персонажей в игре выглядят картонными статистами, двигателями сюжета, включая Элли и Джоэла, которые растеряли где-то свою харизму после первой TLOU.

    Такой извращенной мизогинии тоже стоит поискать. Игру обвиняют в феминизме - где он здесь, простите? Всё зло в этой игре творится женскими руками. Сильная женщина - это не та, которая вырезает врагов толпами, наплевав на мораль и человечность. Меня, как женщину, такое представление "феминизма" глубоко оскорбляет.    … Expand

Joel does what he has to to save his daughter from death and the doctors daughter travels across the country years later and kills him in cold blood in front of his daughter. There wasn't a guarantee "the cure" would have worked and the doctor wouldn't have sacrificed his own daughter... ! I'm very disappointed by this sequel I've been looking forward to for years. TERRIBLE writing, horrible characters, they even managed to ruin Ellie.

    The forced turns of events were really hard to take and then this horrible person through sympathetic sappy BS was the last straw. Perhaps i will finish this some day, i sure spent enough on it, but it wont be today. I cant believe i have buyers remorse on the sequel to my favorite game of all time. Shame on you Naughty Dog!

    Gave 4 points for game play then took away 3 as im so disappointed i cant stomach playing it.

The first 2 hrs you get no play time as Joel and instead we get a brutal death. Afterwards it makes you wonder why Joel and Tommy were so easy going on telling them there names and where they live. And what's more is that Joel didnt do anything when Abby had the shotgun. The two are suppose to have 20 years of apocalyptic experience but get destroyed by a bunch of rookies that didnt even think bout killing tommy and Ellie afterwards, makes you wonder if they just did it on purpose just because. Another issue in the game is that you are forced to play as Abby for 10 hrs and they try to force you to feel sorry for her. Realistically you cant because her dad was a dochebag and didnt even ask what Ellie wanted and wasnt even planning on telling Joel in the first place. There was forced romance which was not needed because it seemed so outta of place and they give the women in the game to much power which made it seem that they were being sexist such as killing Jesse, Joel and handicapping Tommy. And finally you didnt even get your revenge instead Ellie wimps out and let's Abby, go leaving you with nothing. Some people might say Joel had it coming and that he was meant to die but honestly his actions are justified. He did it because he didnt want to lose another daughter he had no one else to care for after Tess was gone. And like I said before they weren't going to give Ellie a choice to give up on her life. I didn’t want to believe the leaks since it seemed so unbelievable and I gave Naughty Dog the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t go down such a bad path. I was legit shocked to see everything was true. I don’t mind Joel dying. In the right light, a main character death can immortalize them (spike from cowboy bebop). But THIS.....it actually hurt me to watch Joel go out like that. And to make it WORSE, Neil makes me play as Abby, a person I hate now and the story fails to make me care about her or her friends. I have to vent and express my frustration with disappointment, the story line is weak and is clearly pushing a narrative down your throat, the story does not flow well at all throughout the whole experience. We are forced to play a character during the last half of the game that I really didnt care about playing. And then I was left empty and unsatisfied at the end of the game, my whole journey was basically pointless and a waste of time. This is a problem and pattern with game developers, you start a great game and turn into crap and ruin it with sequels they think we want instead of making game sequels we want. Sorry Naughty Dog I dont think the TLOU franchise is salvageable anymore and you deserve a boycott.     What in the Seven Hells did I just play? This is Last Jedi/Rise of Skywalker/Game of Thrones Season 8 Level of BAD, just absolute horsecrap! Forcing me to watch my favourite character in the series die 2 hours in the game by some woman I am forced to feel sympathy for (Abby Anderson), for NO REASON (I know it's because Joel killed her Dad during the first game, but I couldn't give a **** I was saving Ellie from a hopeless case, you can't create a vaccine to kill off a fungal infection like Cordyceps, you know? But also morally, it's because I built a father-daughter bond throughout the game, and to let Ellie go after such a heart-breaking journey would feel like a betrayal.) Also, the **** who spat on Joel after Abby (Manny), ooooooh, that pissed me off.

    Then making me play as this killer in the middle of the game to feel sympathy for her, and then making me play as Ellie at the final section to kill Abby, only for her to let her go because... reasons?!?!, is how you destroy a series in one game. (Oh, and don't get me started on the awkward sex scene between Abby and Owen, I actually got sick on that moment) Absolute disrespect to the series, the characters of the first game, and everything that made The Last of Us 1 such a special game to me, especially since I just played it before I got this horrid abomination of Storytelling and character writing. The Last of Us should have never got a sequel and this is proof as to why. Awful Revenge story, awful, AWFUL new characters, everything about the story was just awful...

    Apart from the scene where Tommy shoots Manny in the head, that slimy **** deserved it after he spat on Joel like he did.

    I really hated playing as Abby, not only did she kill the franchise's most beloved characters in a cold-blooded way but she has poor character development and is genuinely flawed with no redeeming qualities. In the first game, most of the characters were flawed too, such as; Tess, Joel, the fireflies,but they were pushed by a strong narrative that built a strong foundation for these characters which is why we love them. Even though Tess wasn't really explored in the first game, I still remember her and have become attached to her character because of how the story portrayed her to be, a no-nonsense person who does whatever she can to get the job done. The fireflies were an anarchist group that trued doing things their way because they felt that the government has oppressed them so they rebelled and even tried to do their own research of the fungus. But for Abby, she seems to just go to the side to whichever is more convenient for her. She's a character with no foundation except for her dead father. After she switches sides to help Yara and Lev, which in my opinion were the best and most fleshed-out characters of the game, she proceeds to lie and manipulate her closest friends, cheat with her ex and kill her close WLF friends because they were in her way. the game tries so hard to sympathize with Abby and even after playing her for half the game, I still do not sympathize with her and want her dead in the story. The narrative of the story tells how bad revenge is but, in the end, Ellie lost everything because she went for revenge and she didn't even get it, its so sad to see her being treated her like that.
    Too many characters were introduced with a poor narrative that I don't even remember the names of the people that died because of how little they mattered to the story. After these main characters die most of them don't even get mentioned, it's like they never existed.
    I hope you guys tell a much better story in your future games. This was a complete letdown.    … Expand

Many people think some Last of Us fans just can't take the fact that one of the main characters is gay, but that's really not the issue. The plot holes and the gameplay is just sad.     Ellie's relationship with Joel is strained from the opening scenes and there appears to be no explanation, despite the fact that Joel has risked life and limb for her. Ellie is in a lesbian relationship with Dina, the only problem is that it Dina's character lacks depth and is emotionless, doing little to drive the plot forward. What little we see of Joel's character is different, less self assured and confident than the previous game (character destruction).

    The combined effect is that the death of Joel at Abby's hands feels hollow, you must then play 10+ hours as Abby, which is clearly a thinly veiled attempt at LGBT inclusive story writing, as the character most likely has Swyer syndrome, which is a difficult thing to live with - and if written correctly with decent character arc and prologue could work in the games favour. But when used purely for identity politics and review leverage, the unfortunate effect is that the players are unlikely to relate to the character at all and even despise them ... which is ironically counter productive to the LGBT inclusive agenda clearly propagated throughout the story.

    I believe that what you have is a very lazy attempt at social engineering through the 'gaming' medium, and I say lazy because the most effective way to change peoples mind is not blatantly demonstrate or dictate how they should think and feel, but subtly lead them to what you want them to think and feel through character development and rewarding story arcs. 1/10    … Expand

    Story wise the game is a huge let down. Waited a long time to feel this much disappointed. What could have been a game of the decade has become a permanent wound on our memories. Well done Naughty dog you have ruined a Great game. Please don't make Last of Us 3. Enough is done

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
