    I waited so long for this game. I played the first game 3 times as an achievement hunter to get 100% completion. I finally completed this game and all I can say is dissapointment. From the dialogue to the garbage plot and story. This game is not worth the $60. I could care less about the LGBT narrative.     Repetitive boring politically biased story. The trailers are legit lies with model swaps of Joel and they also bait you to think he’s in the game. The games bugs aren’t ironed out. And to finish it off the devs and some voice actors are just nasty people.

    The games director inserted himself into a mocap sex scene with the new protagonist. Its his face digitised onto a random NPC's body. He's literally sleeping with his own creation.
    Ellie ends up taking care of a Child after her girlfriend sleeps with a random man of African descent. She accepts the affair and just raises a dead beat mans child, and this is portrayed as a positive.
    And of course Joel is murdered before Ellie and himself can reach any reconciliation with regards to his actions at the finale of the original game, no attempt is made at compelling writing he's killed as shock value.

    There is more to hate, but you shouldn't plsy the game to find out. I refunded it the next day. Don't feed the trolls who claim all criticism of Tlou2 is homophobic, fans welcomed the Left behind DLC with open arms despite it establishing Ellie as a lesbian this game is a train wreck, a power fantasy of a director who decided he wanted to use Tlou as a springboard for his own game instead of crafting a sequel. Naughty Dog didn't even pay the dev team during the final months of development.
    This game is a disgrace to the original and its core theme if Fatherhood.    … Expand

    This game is technically competent but a narrative disaster. It was clear from the first trailer that the game was so impressed with itself for taking the loved character from the first game of Ellie and making her gay. This destroys every character or memory from the first game and should be avoided at all costs.

    Visually, the game looks amazing. The gameplay is relatively similar to the first game. However, due to the story that does not make sense and is filled with tons of plot-holes, it makes this game one of the worst sequel to a video game. If you are a fan of this game for its characters, trust me dont buy it. You will regret it for sure 100%.

Everything that made this game special was ruined, the characters were destroyed completely. All these bought shills are another thing critics gave this game a 95, what a joke these critics should suck it up and get real jobs and pay for their games then they might have genuine input. Nauhty Dog did make the rope physics fun so that's why I gave it a one.     On a scale of broken (0) to godly(10), it’s tough to even consider a 2.
    0 - Broken, unplayable. 1 - Anti-Immersive. Not broken. Compels me not to play. 2 - Non-immersive, nothing compels me to play. 3 - Non-immersive gameplay, Immersive concepts. 4 - On-Off Immersive - Interesting beats, not good enough to recommend.
    5 - Semi-Immersive - No buyer's remorse, but no replay-ability. 6 - Immersive Easy – Fun, no challenge. 'I am too overpowered'. 7 - Immersive Fun - Easily re-playable. ' I want to play more' 8 - Immersive Challenging - From Rouges to Souls, you know them when you see them. You care about your characters. These are done so well you start reflecting on the artists who made the game and appreciate their craft at every turn. 9 - Immersive Tough - Sekiro, it is the only game I hold in this regard.

    I watched a full play through of this game.
    I was considering buying it at first, but I figured I would enjoy it more without wasting money on garbage. It is a cinematic game with a 'fetch' simulator, a jank guitar mini-game, and occasionally zombie shooting/stealth. 35% of the time is cut-scenes or like 10 out of 30 hours.
    Characters/Story
    When people play games they want relate to the main character. That’s why I enjoy RPGs so much, the more you can customize your character the better. You want to be friends or enemies with different NPCs - cool; it's fun when you're making your character in the image that you desire. It’s fun to raid others, but it sucks when you get ganked. It’s fun to be selfish, but when someone else is it can become a problem for you quick. Likewise, when a developer’s character is selfish it will depend on how much you relate to them to either side with them or be put off by them. The less they are like you or your ideal protagonist, the more you don't want to be around them.
    Ellie is not like-able. One of the first scenes is Ellie waking up to some guy knocking on her door who is “not upset man" that Ellie was hooking up with the girl he just broke up last week (yeah, he does get the little ‘man’ micro-aggression in there, just… supreme dialogue). Then she gets mad at him for pretending to not be cool with it. She then walks to her new GF, Dina, who is passive aggressive towards Ellie for 'interrupting' her.
    Instead of using the initial pieces of dialogue for exposition to the world, they use it to set up this drama character dynamic which is … weird to say the least, but more importantly, usually not why I play games. Drama is a supplemental, it’s good if you can pull it off, but make me care about the world and the characters in it before trying to make me care about their personal (non-zombie survivor) problems.
    Anyway, then Ellie and her GF smoke weed and have some CG foreplay (just why? like c’mon), before the same guy from before comes in and gets mad at them for smoking weed and not being on patrol. Joel is missing.
    So as a gamer... I'm sitting here thinking... you're supposed to be patrolling and protecting these people, but you’re getting high and about to have sex while Joel is getting kidnapped.

    This is the point where I hit anti-immersion. I start to think, why would you intentionally craft a story where the character is messing around while the other is getting set-up to be killed. Like the hero wants to get high and have sex, not patrol the city, because that’s how the hero is. For example, later in the game Ellie’s GF Dina is pregnant, and they were just smoking weed. Like fair, Dina maybe didn’t know she pregnant, but the writers know. So why write in a pregnant woman smoking weed?
    And guess what... then Joel gets killed like a punk. Some loser just clobbers him with like a golf club. Like if you want more story, here it is - she seeks revenge and doesn’t get it. They got rid of one of the protagonists, I feel like the natural place would be to dive deeper into the relationship they have and the hardships of survival, but its stops right there at the beginning, not even 10% of the way into the game, feels like developers are rick rolling me at this point
    Pacing –35% of game is cut scenes and I’m here to game, not watch a movie. After getting dragged through a scene, you then have the luxury of going on these hour long ‘fetch’/ ‘fake puzzles’
    Gameplay/Enemies - Nothing for like an hour, then a short cluster, for a couple minutes then back to the dull ‘grind.’ They should at least be peppered in, they are only there to make you feel like you ‘did something’ before getting to the next cut-scene. Controllers, combat, and platforming are plain status quo which is not good enough.
    Quality – It is smooth and it looks good. When you have the budget, there is no reason not to. It is on par with modern games, but it is not cutting edge.
    Conclusion –Buy Terraria, you won’t be disappointed.    … Expand

    Don't buy this game now, wait a month and it will be 90% off, which is all it should cost delivering on one of ten value points.

The fourth wall is also constantly torn down when immersion breaks due to sometimes sloppy coding but mostly gaps in story-telling. I liked the graphics, couldn’t expect more rly. Wasn’t worth the money and I wish I spent it onExpected the game to Take off where tlou1 ended. Ever since the first TLOF I knew what was going to happen to Joel after all the crazy things he did, I just didn’t think it was gonna happen the way it did, pathetic... I played the first 2 and half hours of this game and I just don’t feel like playing it anymore, the game doesn’t feel the same anymore and it overall just made me feel like **** I hated that these two **** were **** and smoking dope while Joel was getting his ass kicked; (sometimes things like these happen in real life, one does not have control over the actions of others)... but why making these two scenes happen at the same time? If anything it’s Ellie’s fault for Joel’s death, but this is just my point of view.… Expand

    So many years of waiting, and they did a totally different story most people expected, in a way that it's unlogical and doesn't even give you any closure. It's really messed up how they were able to destroy my favorite characters like that. It's like Joel is totally different from Part I, and same goes with Ellie. Just doesn't make any sense...

They disregarded everything that was good about the main characters from the first game, and painted Joel and Tommy as two idiots who made the stupidest mistakes that no veterans who survived the apocalypse for many years would do. The story simply gave Abby a plot armor, made everything flow in a way that fits her, and in the end you get forced to play as her and break Ellie mentally and physically. I give this story 1 of the two missing fingers out of 10.… Expand

I'll start out by saying this- although it made Joel look stupid and completely out of character, his death wasn't actually a deal breaker for me. It made Joel's decision (to choose Ellie over saving lives) become realized as a truly wrong decision that brought some serious consequences his way and gave Ellie some serious motivation. I was actually liking the game 5-6 hrs in and thought it had some great heart felt moments that reminded me of the strong emotional connection between Ellie and Joel. The flash backs seemed like a great way of keeping Joel in the game and giving us more of that dynamic, while simultaneously reminding us that he was gone and to feel that huge loss. I'll also say that I've liked the franchise's nods to ultimately reveal Ellie as gay. It's been subtle and classy, and I never felt it was politically motivated or forced. I'm all for putting some different types of characters in video games, so even the 3 way love story between Ellie Jesse and Dina was fine with me. Ellie is gay, she's badass, and she's a super interesting character. I'm in.

    Cut to 10 hrs in....the story is a painfully slow build but I'm still interested and waiting for some major plot points. All the sudden I'm playing as Abby. Why? Why do I need to play as her to feel her motivations? Why is her tragic story suddenly more important than the franchise character's? I continue playing playing but after an HR in with her story I had completely lost interest and was playing on autopilot. The more context to the story, the less the story and the game's theme make sense. I gave it chance to explain, but to the best of my ability the theme is "revenge is bad", yet the antagonist Abby, who is blatantly made out to be the REAL protagonist, sought revenge yet walks away with the happier story! I just don't get the reasoning behind the message, and why it needed to crap all over THIS franchise. I played the original 6 times, and the dlc multiple times as well.     what an awful repetitive game. People complain about the story while forgetting the gameplay was EXTREMELY repetitive and boring. The only people who liked this gameplay are people who picked up last of us and started their console for the first time in 20 years.

No one disagrees Joel deserved to die, he was never established as a morally good character and he made a selfish decision which condemned the human race. No one is angry Joel died we are angry about how he died. My take on this would be much different if we were introduced to Abby long before she brutally murders Joel. They set them self up with an insurmountable task of creating empathy for Abby. And they didn't even try, we got a ten minute scene where she saves a Zebra with her father then they reveal Abby is the person who convinced them Ellie should be murdered to save humanity. If the writers are trying to make the player empathize with Abby why would they establish her as the one who condemned Ellie which inevitably led to Joel killing her father?

    Later on in the story we are introduced to Lev who saves Abbys life. This prompts Abby to betray the wolves to save Lev. This decision of Abbys feels like a fruitless attempt by the writers to establish Abby as a morally good character in order to gain empathy from the audience. They're trying to define Abby as selfless contrary to her making numerous selfish decisions. It's hard to say anything for certain about Abby's character because every other decision is conflicting. One moment she is selfless the next she is selfish. When it comes to condemning Ellie her morals are for the good of the many but when it comes to saving Lev her morals are for the good of the few. She gets very angry when she finds out Ellie has killed her friends yet she's already betrayed these friends and was prepared to leave these friends behind to help Lev.

    The story overall is nonsensical and revolves around and characters literally abandoning and losing everything in a fruitless quest for revenge. Both Abby and Ellie quite literally sacrificed everything over avenging the deaths of two people in a world where everyone has lost someone. Death and violence is around almost every corner of this world. Yet for whatever reason these two people are so special our characters travel thousands of miles killing hundreds to enact their revenge. Even after watching the bond which is formed between Joel and Ellie in the first game I have a hard time believing that Joel's death was enough to bring on this murderous rampage. Especially after Joel and Ellie’s rough relationship has been established.

    This world isn't the same world we were put into in the first game. There is no hope in this world, there is only violence and sadness. The violence is so over the top that by the end of the game I was completely numb to it all. The game heavily relies on shock value that was brought about through overly violent and grotesque actions perpetrated towards beloved characters which was so overly used it left me feeling nothing when the game came to it's final conclusion and this mattered the most. At no point were we given any sort of relief or loving character development which gave us respite from the sadness and violence of this world previously. In the first game Ellie provided 90% of this relief from the awful world we were witnessing. But she is now a shadow of her former self, despite spending her years safe and sheltered in a settlement with electricity she has completely lost the spark we saw in the first game. The conclusion of the game is hollow, hundreds die in this needless revenge plot and one singular person being saved who the player has established no empathy for is supposed to bring meaning to all the meaningless violence.    … Expand

    I have no problem with gameplay, graphics, gay love or anything for that matter. My issue is the story. While Ellie shows remorse, guilt and anxiety by the things she does for revenge her counterpart Abby shows not one shred of empathy, remorse, guilt or anxiety by the things she does to get revenge. She enjoys them. The game trying to convince the audience that we should feel bad about abby doesn't deliver. The parts with abby are annoying. Time consuming and the fact we as player can not kill abby is a mistake i won't forgive. Joel had the same reason to save Ellie as Abby has to save Lev. The player does not feel empathy for Abby and the game fails to try to convince its audience to feel anything but hate and annoyance towards the character that is abby.

    No Sane person would forgive or forget the murder of their own father or mother. Yet this game wants you to do exactly that. Joel is a surrogate father to ellie as ellie is a surrogate daughter to joel. Killing Joel off is not a problem in terms of story even the way portrayed. But the fact the game forces you to sympathize and forgive abby for what she has done is not going to work for intelligent people.
    For dumb people yes, they forgive and forget quite easy. As they can’t even remember the entire story if you ask them after they played it and miss a lot of flaws and plot holes because they do not care nor pay that much attention.

    But if you are an intelligent and sane person you instantly see the flaws and double standards in this story for the two main characters. And how Abby’s own action lead to her demise with the WLF and how her own actions drive everyone away from her. If Ellie and Tommy never showed up, she still would end up with Lev on that Island not knowing what to do other then going to the Aquarium and visit Owen.
    But if Ellie and Tommy never showed up Nora and Manuel would know where that Aquarium is and hunt them down together with the remains of the WLF! Yes that’s a given.
    Other games and movies show this struggle between Rvenge and forgiveness way better. To mind come the walking Dead by Telltale (first season) and the Rockstar Masterpieces called Red Dead Redemption and RDR2.
    As it stands now this game tries to be a story about how revenge is a bad thing that will cost you anything but its depiction only shows that Ellie is the one losing everything while abby walks free and gotten her revenge and now lives by the same rule saving an innocent child against the chaos of this post-apocalyptic world as joel did with ellie.
    So, in short Abby gets to kill joel by literally bashing his head in with a golf club and then goes on to do the exactly same stuff joel did in part 1. The hypocrisy of this story is beyond believe but while abby walks away ellie gets left behind with 2 fingers missing, her sanity destroyed, no longer having the ability to play guitar, lost her relation with dina and her baby. Lost jessie. Lost joel. Lost the friendship with Tommy.
    And for people claiming Abby loses a lot too. I say this. If we assume Ellie and Tommy do not show up.
    Abby would still lose Mel, Nora and Manuel’s support the moment she helped Yara and Lev escape which leads to the death of Yara and Isaac. As Manuel explained to Mel it is ok to shoot scar kids if it helps the WLF. Nora already helped Abby escape but tells her she would bail the moment she got caught again. And Mel wanted to leave with Owen but only if he leaves Abby behind. Since Owen didn’t want to do that Mel leaves Owen when Ellie shows up. Owen would therefore the only one coming to the island to save Abby.

    Or in short. Only Owen would still support Abby. Mel hates Abby from the deepest part of her heart and Nora and Manuel would stay with the WLF hunting Abby for the murder of Isaac and protecting a Scar Child.
    That’s the way to go and spit in Joels and Abbys face while you put Abby and Lev on a pedestal. The hypocrisy in this game is stunningly high.

    Naughty Dog has died as a company for me since 1998 me supporting them. And I won’t be the only one thinking that way after this game.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
