    However, the Last of Us 2 thinks we are incapable of making important choices and forces the narrative down our throat. Purchased because first game was masterpiece but this sequel left a bad taste and went backwards. Won't bother with sequel.    … Expand

    Impresionante juego, jugablemente 10 sonido 10 graficos 10, el argumento 9 es cuestion de gustos a mi me gusto mas como acabo la primera parte, pero sigue estando bastante bien, sobresaliente juego pero no perfecto.

    Respecto a la jugabilidad y gráficos no tengo nada que decir, me encantó, era como vivir una aventura en carne y hueso. La trama a nivel personal me gustó, hubieron tanto momentos impactantes y crueles como conmovedores y eso hizo que brindara muchos momentos que cuesten superar. Al terminar el juego solo puedo decir que no creí lo que había visto, fue una experiencia que se asemeja a loRespecto a la jugabilidad y gráficos no tengo nada que decir, me encantó, era como vivir una aventura en carne y hueso. La trama a nivel personal me gustó, hubieron tanto momentos impactantes y crueles como conmovedores y eso hizo que brindara muchos momentos que cuesten superar. Al terminar el juego solo puedo decir que no creí lo que había visto, fue una experiencia que se asemeja a lo que sucedería en la vida real, muertes realistas y personas no siendo vistos solo como villanos, sino como personas grises que hacen acciones buenas y malas. Hubieron cosas que en la trama no me interesaron mucho, pero creo que esto es más a nivel personal como el jugar con cierto personaje, parte de su trama me encantó, pero habían aspectos de su vida que no me interesaban. El vivir este viaje con Ellie me encantó y a la vez el ver como actúa y se desarrolla en esta situación me parecieron geniales. El final si me hizo pensar y llegar a comprender por qué se hizo lo que se hizo y eso me gusta, que se pueda llegar a pensar sobre todo lo que tuvimos que digerir.
    También me hubiera gustado que se nos introdujeran un poco más de información sobre algunos personajes, darle mas protagonismo a otros para que sean mucho mas entrañables de lo que pudieron llegar a ser.    … Expand

El juego es simplemente una gozada , terminarlo en dificil fue una odisea por lo estratégico que se a vuelto aún más y la cantidad de enemigos que te pueden tocar , la verdad es que la historia está muy bien desarrollada tanto con Ellie como con Abby , se entiende la razón de Abby de porque asesino a Joel y porque ahora tiene tanta importancia en la trama , aunque a mucha gente no le gusto el final abierto en lo personal le encuentro sentido por ser el pase a la parte 3 y esto nos abre el camino a las nuevas posibilidades para estas dos personajes quizá en un futuro de ser aliadas y perdonarse 10/10 el juego .… Expand

    While it's not great, it's not nearly as bad as people say. The first 10 hours are amazing. I really felt it was a worthy successor to the original game. But then it takes a hard turn and the rest of the game falls flat. Most of it feels pointless and the gist of the game is "revenge is bad." I didn't like any of the new characters aside from Dina.     I created an account just to rate this game. It's been getting a lot of unnecessary hatred from people that wanted things to go their way over a more realistic version of reality. Get over yourselves, it didn't ruin the franchise, it was a fantastic game.

    Unbelievably disappointing and heartbreaking. I returned the game and will never purchase another title from this studio or Druckmann. I have never seen such horrible writing, pacing, and tone. They spit in the face of the fans and destroyed the characters we loved for nothing more than the furtherance of the creators ego.

    At first I thought I would give up on this game....

    After finishing the game I feel absolutely worth the time. Beautiful world, amazing gameplay, complex characters and great stories, almost better in every aspect from part I.

    No matter how angry you feel after first few hours, plz don't rage quit and finish the game. It's totally worth it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most visually beautiful game i've ever played, that's ruined by the worst story i've ever seen.

    I will start by saying this game is absolutely beautiful. The studio did an amazing job building this world, the ambience is amazing, the lighting is amazing. Huge respect for the people who built the visuals.

    My problem here is with the unbelievably BAD and LAZY writing. Starting with Joel's death. The way it's done is absolutely horrible. The character we all loved from the first game dies a completely pathetic death that doesn't reflect the character. Joel spent more than 20 years surviving in this world, and falls for a trap that anyone would see from miles away. It's not the fact that he died, but how they've done it: It happens in the first 2 hours of the game, with barely any screentime to the character, and it is done by a character we don't know anything about.

    The game just reaps out your emotional attachment to it, so fast, you just doesn't care about it anymore. There were a million better ways to do it. You can easily build up the main character's death in a way that we can have an emotional attachment to it, and to make Ellie's revenge have an emotional meaning. But it's not how it's done here.

    If the game had built up Joel and Ellie's story before killing Joel, it would make so much more sense, and i, as a player, would be way more invested in Ellie's revenge. It's hard to believe they had 7 years to come up with a narrative, and still they did the worst thing they could have done.

    We then proceed to play more than 10 hours as Abby, a character that we absolutely hate for doing that to Joel. The game tries to justify Joel's death with 10 hours of WASTED TIME going through flashbacks and useless sections of the game. It fails miserably in trying to make you understand her side of the story.

    In short, the story is poorly written and VERY disorganized. The narrative is totally out of order, there's no character development for the main characters.

    Dina has no development whatsoever, and Jesse is barely in the game. Jesse's death was just IGNORED by all the characters, he's never mentioned again after he dies. Manny is another flat character that you just doesn't care about.

    In the end, Ellie's revenge meant nothing. Joel died, Jesse died and don't get to see his son, Tommy is disabled, Ellie lost 2 fingers, her baby and her girlfriend. And Abby just walks away, successfully avenging her father, who's just a NPC from the first game.

    As an absolute fan of the first game, i am sad with what Naughty Dog has done to this sequel. They had 7 years to build the perfect sequence to the masterpiece that was the first one, but they managed to make a completely garbage storyline. Looks like it was done in the laziest way possible.    … Expand

    Overall the game was crafted with an amazing amount of love and passion for game making in general. I did have mixed feelings through out the whole story but the direction was very bold and progressive which I wish more games would be. The toxicity of the gaming community is truly visible just by the user reviews here. Overall I'm happy with how the game was made and I'm glad it exists

    Simply the best game I ever played. The storytelling, the gameplay, the soundtrack... everything brings more immersion to the game. After all, I'm desolated and exhausted, physically and mentally.
    I hope they develop a DLC to this game. Because I wanna know the continuation of Ellie's story.

    Graphics... That's the only good thing about this. Everything else is either mediocre or down right awful. The game play did not evolve one bit since 2013.

Good things are the visuals and gameplay , but all this sjw agenda for me it destroyed the whole experience the only character that i identify got savagely killed in the beginning and the other normal straight character got killed to , both by a lesbian male looking like , joel was the strong guy on the game and ellie the delicate but good with accuracy and joel is replaced by this lesbian character that looks bulky and male, i dont have anything against females being protagonist on a game but this is just enough is toxic sjw , the game was ruined for me i will finish it yes but i am already disappointed i find naughty dog failed by introducing this kind of characters into their franchises… Expand

    I think the most tasteful part was when Druckmann and his mafia goons stepped in as NPCs to altruistically remind us that sacrificing beloved heroes on the alter of political agenda is always universally acceptable. The man just oozes grace and intellectual honesty. It was probably the 2nd most noble thing he's done (after ousting the critically panned Amy Hennig from her position at ND to appease all those misogynists who have always been so vocal about hating her work, like Uncharted).

    Put simply, it's Schindler's List 2: Schindler's Fist meets Captain Marvel (though perhaps not as deep as the latter). If you buy this game only once, I'm afraid you're part of the problem and need someone miserable, aggressive, and uninformative to re-educate you.

    If you have to choose between feeding your dog or buying this game, then that feeling of self-anointed moral superiority will more than make up for the dogless days ahead. Trust me. My dog died.

    This game is abysmally bad. It has one of the worst stories ever written in gaming and completely crippled and destroyed the amazing characters from the first game. Also, the marketing for this game was borderline false advertising. Definitely do not buy this game and if you've unfortunately bought it already, make sure to refund it.

    I just completed the main campaign for The Last of Us Part II with a clock time of 29:15. After years of waiting for this release, it’s clear that the trailers advertised and the final product presented false advertisement and swapped out character models that did not reflect what I thought I was receiving for $60. Having said that, I cannot recommend this game due to a few reasons that impacted my playthrough. Please see below.

    I will start out with the obvious. I am still completely blown away with the technical capabilities presented on my PS4 Pro from this game. The environments and level design are beautiful and very detailed. I never expected to see such invigorating life in this world that they built. The details are incredible, and some areas are middle to large in scope.

    The animations are fluid and improved over the original on the PS3. The jump mechanic of Ellie is a neat and welcoming addition to the gameplay and verticality implemented in The Last of Us Part II. It gave me additional playstyle opportunities even though it felt just like Uncharted 4. Again, not a bad thing!

    The gameplay is pretty decent. I noticed many improvements and refinements over the original game, but nothing after a few hours that felt new. It reminded me of RDR2 giving me a “stiff” feeling whereas the original felt a little more loose.

    The story is where I noticed a lot of inconsistencies that didn’t match the trailers advertised. I thought okay, maybe it was an update, but then I began seeing more and more. Naughty Dog lied an put Jesse in a cutscene (when I was going through WLF territory) where the trailer depicted an older Joel. I felt extremely disrespected the way they killed him off and had diverse characters do him this way. It felt forced and like an agenda was being pushed and I did not feel that. I also did not like that they went to the level of spitting on him with the guy who looks like Neil Druckman. Again, I love the characters from the original, but the characters and the way they are treated in The Last of Us II just feels like “filler” and to show shock value. It reminded me of a b horror movie with a large body count. Why did we not get the old gruff Joel and instead this younger Joel? Was the marketing team doing a bait and switch? I felt like I was getting a different experience and not the one I wanted.
    Why were there many political themes heavily forced and pushed throughout the game? I noticed a lot of white characters being killed in inhumane ways by other diversities and again, it just felt like a message was being forced or sent. Other people wont mind this, but I wasn’t a fan of this. In fact, it was constantly pressed throughout the cutscenes of the story.
    The XXX scene…what was the context other than incorporating it during Abby’s time throughout the campaign? Her character I couldn’t feel bad for after the way the writers did Joel and Ellie’s new personality/character over.
    The ending and final boss fight was underwhelming. Don’t expect a huge finale per se, but if your expectations are low, you may enjoy it. I put in so many hours and killed so many people to ultimately let Abby go and it felt like a punch to my stomach. I think the writers were going for this, but it just made me feel that this was not The Last of Us Part II’s game that true fans of the original wanted.
    If you love the characters of the original, I can’t recommend the sequel due to the inconsistencies, the ways beloved characters were treated and killed off to push a new controversial character that wasn’t as relatable as I would have hoped for. It felt as if a whole different team made this game, but with the themes of feminism, LGBQT, politics, etc. Why is there such a heavy push for these themes? I understand their viewpoints, but I didn’t need to see this within every cutscene.
    I was completely underwhelmed by the game due to its rich narrative. The Last of Us is a story-based game and this story felt cheap and quickly thrown together for shock value and execution. If you don’t care about the narrative you may enjoy the game, but you will have themes of SJW, feminism, LGBQT, Violence, and more. The way they perceived the Seraphytes (A Christian cult group) was also disturbing. I feel offended as I am a Christian and we certainly don’t want to harm or kill those who sin or have different beliefs. This experience felt like a porno. I’m baffled.    … Expand

How in anybody's mind would think anyone would want to play HALF the game as Joel's KILLER!? And not only that, they took out the amazing multiplayer because they wanted to "Focus on the story?" Not only is the story a slog to get through (except playing as Ellie) we don't relate to Abby or her **** unfunny ass friends which all seem likey **** people mind you. They're just seems to be no real honest direction here and it really shows in the end product. There is no desire to play through the game again. This was suppose to be ELLIE'S story, not some two sided story mess we got. Although the locations are great, (even when playing as Abby, the island, the skyscraper were cool locations) it just has bad pacing. Abby is about to shoot Ellie then for like 12 HOURS we have to sit down and try to relate to Joel's killer? For what? Why do I care about Abby? I think her design is cool the way she slams down on her enemies with a hefty "thump" but she feels poorly implemented in the story and to try and make us the players who journeyed with Joel and Ellie in the first game sympathize with her? It just does not work, and it does not. Man I can't believe they cut multiplayer for a mediocre story.… Expand

    good game, everyone should play it, maybe is not better than the first one, but that was obviously a complicated task. sincerily a must play. it accomplished the objective of being entertain, for the time, and the music and sound effects on surround just awesome as the graphics. hope a remastered for ps5.

    Just beat the game. What an amazing, complex story from start to finish. Ignore the reviews of the people review bombing because it isn't the first game. It's not meant to be.

    I couldn't even finish the game, and I tried so hard to. I usually don't completely quit games without giving it a ton of more chances, but this sequel just didn't click for me.

    The pros are obvious—fantastic mocapping, animations, voice acting, and environment building. I also actually enjoyed the small additions to the combat, including the ability to lie flat on your stomach, craft arrows + bomb arrows, and leave scent trails for the dogs. However, even these pros couldn't get me over the jarring flaws.

    Joel dying is what immediately made me think, "Damn. Maybe I should've listened to the criticisms before I bought this." He dies 30 minutes into the game, and Jesse dies quickly too. NOT good for those who really thought the main protagonist of the first game would play a physical role in the second game. The whole plot of the game also revolves around Ellie chasing after Abby and seeking revenge, but decides against it in the ending, leaving Abby to go free. Unsatisfying and confusing.

    Playing as Abby didn't make me feel sympathy for her. I already hated her for killing Joel, and her backstory was part of such a minuscule detail from the first game that I'm baffled they even decided to focus on it. Abby's route was insanely boring and during that point of the game I quit. Her friends were boring. Her attitude was boring. I couldn't feel sorry for her even as she cried on the floor in front of her dad, who, not to mention, held a blade up to Joel first before he shot him. During the first game, we learned of the deep reasoning behind Joel's selfish behaviors, and we sympathized with him. By showing Abby as an angry murderer before showing her as a fellow human with her own drive and reasonings, it really makes players unable to give her any space to tell her side of the story.

    The characters are out-of-character very frequently. Joel is a molded survivor with the ability to sniff out when something is off. It didn't seem realistic for him to so easily trust Abby and then, in the end, get brutally killed. Ellie is also not the happy-go-lucky girl from the first game. She is moody and apathetic. It didn't feel like I was controlling the same girl.

    The game also seemed to switch its focus onto something completely new instead of what The Last of Us was built on. The story often revolved around human killers and a civil war between the Wolves and the Seraphites instead of the infected and CBI. It felt like the civil war was a bigger part of the plot than the infected.

    The atmosphere just wasn't the same to me either. I can't explain that very well. Maybe it's the lack of Joel. I actually cried during the museum flashback with Ellie and Joel because it was so much like the first game, a striking contrast compared to adult Ellie's adventures. My Listen Mode didn't work, like, at all; could never see the silhouettes of enemies in different rooms. I also didn't like the lack of nail bombs. I've read so many alternatives to this game's plot and it makes me sad to say the majority of them were really better than the canon plot we got. I was really hoping the clips of Abby in the trailers were actually Anna. That might've been a lot more interesting.    … Expand

    I waited for this game since it was first announced in the works and tho the story may not of went completely they way I would've liked im not disappointed even in the least its an absolute tear jerking masterpiece and I'm so utterly in love with this work of art thank you to those who put the time in to make this you are so amazing

    The whole game is very depressing, as a player of TLOU, I can not accept the strange changes in in-game roles' character. Joel, Ellie, and Tommy as if they are completely different from TLOU. The worst part is having to play Abby for half of this game, which makes me want to throw up eventually.

    I hated every moment in the game playing as Abby and the game forced to me to play as character I don't like and do some **** things.
    I didn't pay to play as Abby. Gameplay was monotonous. Gets boring at some point. Storyline is trash. I was completely dissatisfied after playing the ending.

Except this game has the same director as the first game, but is absolutely horrific. I don't care how good the graphics are or that the gameplay is decent (not anything super special). This game made me dislike Ellie, and makes me wish she was actually sacrificed at the end of the first game. Joel deserved so much better. This franchise went from perhaps the best game of all time to perhaps the worst game of all time. Thank you for completely ruining this franchise for all the fans.     Hubiera preferido manejar a Tommy o Jesse e así encariñarse mucho mas con ellos, siento que las partes importantes de Abby se pudieron haber resumido en 2 horas de gameplay rapido, y no en 8-9 horas que es lo que paso, y el final estuvo horrible por que Ellie no hizo nada al final, y simplemente lo que hizo no lo termino, le doy un conco por que creo que es lo que se merece :/    … Expand

    I know a lot of people don't really enjoy the game, personally I had a blast with it. I don't think it's amazing story wise but the gameplay was really fun imo! I'd say check it out for yourself if you're up for it.

All the low ratings are done purposely to slate the game for literally no reason other than big gay moments, Joel's death, the fact you have to play as Abby or that the ending doesn't suffice. I will agree, everything post Seattle is a bit hit or miss, the story after Ellie and Abby's fight is a bit rough around the edges and seems rushed. The gameplay is amazing, better than the first games in my opinion, the graphics are stunning. Arguably some of the best facial animation and blood physics I've seen in recent years. Everyone saying the story is bad have hardly even played the game or played through the game with the mindset of the game being **** because of leaks and prerelease reviews. There's a huge hate train for this game and I really don't like the fact it exists. People who haven't even played the first game or know anything about the games are leaving bad reviews because other people are and it's stupid. I for one think this game is amazing, I don't think I prefer it over the first game but it's still a really good game and probably my favourite PS4 release overall… Expand

Meybe writers does not even understand the story telling tricks of last of us 1 and what type of story it is, why it worked, i think Neil Druckmann delusionaly belives last of us 1 to be something more then what it is and because of that he thinks his "genius-ness" of masterful and complex story telling is the reason why people love last of us 1, this delusion turns his confidence into a trap and eventualy causes the downfall of the story in the last of us 2. Last of us 2 acts a lot like kojima games, and it takes huge inspirations from games like mgs2 sons of liberty, and death stranding among others. now taking inspriration does not mean you are not being innovative, you cannot start from 0. every thing is build on top of the things come before but if you are litteraly the flag ship of the gaming industury, i think you should be more innovative but not simply take unnecicery risks, after all you are making a product not just art. last of us 2 fails at taking necicery risk and making them worth it, while i appresiate the taken risks in first few hours of the game, i think these risksl will put so many people down that already payed 60 dolars to the game and there is no goind back at that point. Marketing of the game is trying so hard to hide these things and i think this is a big f*** you to these people because,it pusposefully missinforms the customer. It is almost like "if you dont agree with us you are dumb and we know better you better be agreeing with us because you dont have much choice, you eiter already wasted your money or continue playing the game and try to agree with us."and it sucks.Now lets talk about innovation and inspiration part. Again last of us 2 takes a lot of inspiration from kojima, it acts like kojima games, but it does try to innovate on a genius material without being genius.they deffinitly do not understand the mecanics of the desing on inspired material, they just focus on the shiny parts of tricks kojima uses, and they do not study how kojima makes them work.Kojima always makes his games self-conscious even tho he wants to make movies,he knows he makes games.Last of us 2 is not self-conscious it wants to be a movie but it is not, becausese of this mistake gameplay becomes a drag and immersion braking, pacing is bad,it tries so hard to humanize the enemies for the sake of being a movie like experience but ai becomes predictable and robotic after some time, combat encounters almost always plays the same it act like giving choice to the player but choices player makes do not vary compared to the encounter count at some point in the story main character of the game starts to torture someone they hates, at this point you already understand the "genius messege" of the game but game gives you the control and the only thing you can do is press a button that tortures the person, there is no other ways to proggres the game, you know the main character has lost it and what they are doing is wrong but game thinks it is genius and treats you like an idiot, this is the main problem with last of us 2, it is constantly forced in every way, writing/story telling/gamplay, it belives it self too much so it does not realize the problems it has. and i as a person that payed money and time to this game, i think i have the right to say i expect a more proffesional product from the cutting edge production level of the gaming industry.

    As of the final of this review i would like to example my critique with few fancy and blunt but meaningful sentences.

    If i have to do something i normally would not do, reggarding the metacritic scores controversy, i would give it a 7 out of 10.

La jugabilidad es del 2013 y las mejoras añadidas al combate cuerpo a cuerpo no son lo suficiente como para sentirse como una renovación, obviamente es divertido (porque el primero lo era), pero se siente viejo a pesar de ser un juego nuevo.

    Pero lo peor de este juego es la historia y el desarrollo de personajes, para que se entienda mejor: estamos en un mundo post-apocaliptico, no hay comida, no hay agua y si no estas enfrentado a zombies, estás enfrentando contra personas que quieren tus suminstros, en este contexto Ellie desarrolla un instinto de supervivencia donde es capaz de matar a cualquiera que represente una mínima amenaza para ella o para la gente que quiere.
    Sabiendo lo anterior, una imbécil (Abby) que le importa más la venganza, mata brutalmente a las personas que amas, destruye la vida "tranquila" que tanto les había costado crear a todos, te arranca los dedos mientras te enfrentas a duelo a muerte justamente para vengar todo el daño que te hizo. ¿Qué haría Ellie en esa situación? la mataría, ¿qué hizo Ellie? pues... La deja ir.

    Eso no tiene sentido, ya que nunca se desarrolló a Ellie para que entendiera que la venganza no traería ninguna satisfacción, no se desarrolló para que entendiera que la brutalidad que ella y Joel llevaron a cabo en el primer juego traería consigo resentimiento, dolor y por ende, venganza y que era algo que tenían que esperar, no se desarrolló para que dejara de lado ese instinto de supervivencia.

    A mi no me molesta que Joel haya muerto, al final el contexto del mundo sustenta la crueldad y frialdad, y tu jugablemente lo estas justificando, matas a todo lo que sea enemigo. Lo que me molesta es que a último minuto y sin justificación cambien la personalidad de un personaje.    … Expand

I keep reading that this game is supposedly "brave", but I do not see what's brave about it. There is no real twist, no revelation, no character development...so what is brave about the game?

    I have been reading/ watching/ playing zombie, dystopian and post-apocalyptic media for years and this is by far one of the weakest examples I have ever come across.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
