    Alright well I feel as though someone needs to defend this game. I want to avoid spoilers, so I will do my best to talk about the game without mentioning any major plot points. This is a good game and there are a few reasons that I believe this to be true.

    For starters, this is the best looking game I have ever played on the PS4.     For starters, this is the best looking game I have ever played on the PS4. This is one thing that everyone should agree on because the game truly does look incredible, especially the facial animations.
    The game play is fun. I enjoy the stealth game play from both the first game, and this one. Every single encounter feels intense and dangerous because resources are so scarce. This means that you must take every encounter seriously if you want to keep your supplies and stay alive. I will admit that the aiming is wonky and annoying to use, but after a bit of practice, I started to get used to it and I was able to enjoy the game play a bit more. While it definitely isn't perfect, and not the best of all time, I enjoyed the combat and encounters, and I can confidently say it is not the terrible and glitchy mess that people are saying it is.

    Now here is where the majority of the complaints come from in this game... the story. Before I go on about what I truly think of the story, I want to put a disclaimer on this; it was not at all what I expected. Within the first few hours of the game something major happens, and it is not going to make people happy. Throughout the story you are able to look at the experiences of two individuals, and by doing this, NaughtyDog was able to tell a rich and thorough story. They did not give a **** what people cared about, and they gave us a long and sad story. Very little of this game is happy, and that is a good thing. They made a real story that will be looked into long after the game is out. This story is controversial, and not everyone is going to like it. It is not happy, and it does not have a happy ending, but with full confidence I can say that this story felt real. There wasn't a hero who got everything that he/she wanted, and nobody won. I think NaughtyDog wanted to make a game in their own direction, and they did not care if people were happy with their choices, because in the end, they made a story that will be remembered for far longer that any other game that has ever been released.

    To close off, if you are thinking of buying this game, I would suggest you do. I am guessing the majority of bad reviews of this game are from people who saw the spoilers and hated the way the game turned out. However, when you play the game, you learn to appreciate the direction NaughtDog took. Just don't expect the game to go your way, because I can almost guarantee it will be hard to watch what happens throughout the story, but that was what NaughtyDog wanted.    … Expand

But this game makes me feel like it tried to tear down the characters and ruin the franchise. I don't know where to start with this god awful game. Like most people I absolutely hated how they treated Joel. One of the best characters i think i have ever seen in any type of media. He is portrayed as smart, experienced, and battle hardened survivor in he first game but in this game he completely goes against his character established in the last game. In the previous game he is shown to know and see all the traps and bad ideas thrown his way. Never trusting strangers and always keeping his guard up. In TLOU2 Joel goes against his character by trusting a stranger with his name and even going back to their home camp. These actions end up getting him killed by one of the worst developed characters in a video game, Abby. The way they treated Joel is downright disrespectful to TLOU fans all around. We have a full game with Joel just to see him die in a way we know he shouldn't have according to his character is more than upsetting. The game then sets you off on a journey of revenge where the game makes it almost seem like Ellie is losing her passion of getting revenge, which if the writing was consistent from the first game, we know that Ellie would have been dead-set on her revenge. Which is the biggest problem with this game. The terrible writing and character development. This story actively goes against the character development from the last game while building new characters extremely poorly. The lack of character building for the newly introduced characters was bluntly obvious. No one seem to care about the WLF characters besides getting revenge for Joel. They just felt like the nameless enemies from the previous games instead of people you understood and maybe even cared for. They were compelling in no way at all. This was extremely prevalent for the other main protagonist Abby, who from the extremely misleading advertising I was unaware of. But it turns out you play 10 hours (half of the game) playing as a character you hate. Since Joel was so beloved and you see him being brutally beaten to death by someone, you are naturally inclined to hate that person. Then the game makes you play half of the game as the character who shows no remorse for all the people she's killed including Joel and Jesse, there is no possible way that you will be able to feel any empathy towards this character. But this game tries so hard to make you feel pity and understand her, when it is impossible to feel pity after seeing what she has done. She is also portrayed as a very dislikable and morally questionable person throughout the 10 hours. This is a prime example of the trash writing put into this game. At the end of the game Ellie and Abby are having a final showdown when Ellie is close to finishing the job she set out to do at the very beginning of this game, but she stops drowning Abby after seeing a image of Joel in her head. This makes no sense as seeing Joel in her head is what triggered her to start the fight in the first place. This also goes back to how in the first game Joel and Ellie will do anything for each other, like when Ellie first killed someone to save Joel. The fact that Ellie let Joel's killer get away on purpose went against her character built up in the last game which loops back to one of this game's biggest problems. Not only that but seeing the sole purpose you played the game for (to get revenge for Joel and kill Abby) slips through your fingertips is more than disappointing and unsatisfying. This is by far one of the worst endings I've ever seen in any media. The only redeeming part of this story was the beautiful graphics and pretty good gameplay. Other than that I wished this game didn't exist. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME. IT WILL DISAPPOINT YOU!

    Overall: The only good part of this game was the graphics and gameplay. But the story was complete and utter trash. Only play this game if you don't care about the story and just want some more TLOU gameplay, but even then I would recommend playing the original.    … Expand

The entirety of LOU has 10k reviews... this has 60k in 3 days lol, so I don't put any stock into the internet troll jobs that are trying to tank this game.

    This game isn't a masterpiece, let's get that out of the way. It has an innate flaw built into the story in that it is attempting to build empathy and tell the story from both sides of the coin. In essence, Ellie isn't the protagonist, and Abby isn't the antagonist, these are two people born into a brutally violent world. Both are on the warpath, on quests of revenge after having things done to them that entirely destroy their family, and both are unique in they were powerless to stop it from happening. This game is best boiled down to a tale of two people on a quest of acceptance in finding peace with what the world has done to them, and to ultimately find empathy, and the story works incredibly well. My only real complaint with the story isn't the story itself, but rather the amount of time invested into having to play Abby. Literally half the game is from her perspective. I understand the need for symmetry in a story like this, but I would have preferred a longer more Ellie focused approach, 65/35, 70/30 would have been enough to get the point across I feel. The game play mechanics are smooth, polished, and well done, and the horror elements are there like always, specifically in the hotel/hospital sequences with Abby, those were terrifying, and RAT KING!!! HOLY MOLY!! WOW! As for the people whining about gay relationships etc., politics., I'm a Southern Conservative from Texas, registered Republican, and there was nothing in this game that I remotely considered in your face. The game handled it's messaging well, without being overtly in your face about it.

    Overall, the game is a solid 25 hours if you move through the story at a decent pace, and one that I greatly enjoyed. It's not perfect though as I've said. The Abby length of play reminded me of Metal Gear Solid: 2, thought not near to that extreme, and I wish we had more time with Ellie. I do admit though, I ended up liking Abby, felt her struggle/pain, and empathized with her the more time I spent with her, so the idea of telling the story from both angles worked well, though I do with it were a bit shorter.

    if this is a TV series or movie, I think it's fine, but for a game, you have to control a character who is give you strong negative feelings one second before then you have to control that character, no matter what happens next, this kind manipulate really disgusting.

La verdad me parece un juego bastante bueno, no una obra maestra pero es muy bueno, y eso se ve en la muerte de Joel (aunque se merecía una mejor muerte), porque si moría Dina simplemente íbamos a apoyar a Ellie en su viaje, pero con la muerte de Joel es distinto ya que el juego nos transmite esa rabia y tristeza que siente Ellie al verlo morir, y es por eso que es tan bueno, porque nos transmite las emociones que siente la protagonista, lo cual muy pocos juegos logran. Otro punto fuerte del juego es su jugabilidad, la cuál es muy similar al primer juego pero con algunos detalles como el botón para esquivar que lo hace todo más dinámico y rápido, también tiene personajes bastante buenos como Dina y jessie los cuales aunque son un poco esteriotipados , tienen sus puntos fuertes… Expand

Porém história vazia, mudam o foco a cada hr q passa, qrem dar enfase a Abby, uma assassina covarde, fazia parte de grupos de gurrilha, mostram 15 min dela e de seu pai, e acham q isso fara o jogador a crer em sua razão, e matar um ser humano daquela forma. Um mundo gigante sem zumbis, zumbis só coexistem praticamente em locais fechados e escuros. Acabaram com a franquia, com personagens magníficos para apostar em 12 q n dao 1 em carisma iu simpatia, acabaram com a Ellie, do nada a transformaram em assassina louca e do nada tbm a deixaram ser boa de novo. N sabeiam o q queriam, fizeram por fazer, correndo, estragaram tudo. N sei como a crítica elogia tamanha merda, e a historia vale mais q td, pq é metade de jogo só em cutscenes ou dialogos, e foi uma merda… Expand

    Awful characters. Awful story. You literally don't feel anything the whole game because the characters are the worst of all time. Gave 1 point for the decent graphics. Gameplay boring and ps3-era. Naughty Dog does not innovate in this title. Long, boring, awful characters, awful writing.

Yes the gameplay is fantastic and I was completely impressed with it, but what ruins this game is the story. The story is just so awful with the way it treats its characters. Within the first hour of my play through I had to witness one of my favorite characters get brutally slaughtered, right then and there I was ready to take the disc out of my PlayStation and throw the disc out my window. But I gave it a second chance and again I was impressed by visuals and gameplay but the story is what holds it back. Then the unthinkable happens and the game switches over to the most hated video game character of all time and that is Abby this part of the game I just kept killing her on purpose over and over again Until I reached the worst ending of all video game History!!!! I could not believe THATS how this game ends. Such a waste of money and the sad part is I can’t even get a refund. I don’t get how anyone can support naughty dog beyond this point not only they treat their employees like **** but they also treated one of their most beloved game like **** save your money and don’t support this evil studio.… Expand

Joel was needlessly killed off in the beginning and the story never made me feel sympathetic for Abby. As time went on me playing as her I grew to dislike her more and more. There was no pay off in with ending either. Ellie lost everything to find Abby and she just gets to walk away scott free. It just doesn't sit right with me and it really pains me to give this game such a low score. The first game is my favorite game ever and this is such a fall from grace. A game can have the best game-play, graphics, and sound, but if it has a terrible story it ruins the whole game… Expand

    Lesbian here who owns the collector's edition. I was extremely excited for this game and had pre-ordered on the first day. The only true last of us is in my favorite games of all time. I was excited up until the first leaks came out. When I played the game and saw how they made Joel/Tommy go against their characters, by telling these people where they live and their names when they do not know these people at all. The way Abby just kills Joel when at this point the player has no idea who Abby makes her insufferable. All the work they do to try and make her sympathetic does nothing. At the end of the game, I agree with Ellies's decision to still go after Abby cause 'it can't all be for nothing'. It does not make sense that she would almost just let Abby go, she had just killed a man to get information on where Abby is. The ending is inconsistent with Ellie's character, as the entire game she has been killing people to try and get to Abby, and it is stupid she did not just shoot her in the head. Ellie's ending is bad and she does not even get revenge if she had just killed her straight away all that would be different is she would still have 10 fingers. A waste of £160. Collapse… Expand

This game is nothing like the first, and anyone going into this game based on the previous will be extremely disappointed. Neil Druckman and Naughty Dog severely under performed and might have possibly killed one of the most beloved franchises and main characters in gaming. I hope this game and its failure exposes the failures of pandering to audiences and ignoring core gamers, and expose media outlets for lying to the public to increase the number of copies sold.… Expand

The setting is incredible, something never seen before, the graphics and the voice acting, so don't even mention it, mix it with an improved gameplay and a great soundtrack like that. as the first game and ready you have a work of art.

The narrative ended up being stretch a few times and show other views of the characters in the plot which didn’t bother me but I have in mind that it can bother other fans. Well the most interesting is the message that the game wants to send us with all the questions imposed by the director on the plot, had points I didn't like as a fan in the story yes, but overall The last of us ii is incredible and I recommend it.    … Expand

But all those aside, the way the story is written is awful. I have thousands of people who agree with me too. The story is just written so badly and sometimes doesn't make sense. The "scenes" especially are horrendously written, no proper send off to the characters, just bam! death. The game also daila to make me feel as trying to understand abby while playing her. It just doesn't feel right cause you are forced into that one awful path of story. Most importantly, the finale is the most disappointing sequence of events I have experienced in my life. Talk about having a journey and almost fulfilling your mission but just a flashback makes you stop. I really don't get what the developers were doing so bad that didn't capture the mood and charm of the first game. Then suddenly the fight just stopped like nothing ever happened? That's some next level child cartoon cliche ending there. In summary, this by far is one of the worst story-driven game out there, only being carried by the next generation graphics it offered.     I like this video game a lot. This whole situation seems very unfair to me and I am very sorry because naughty dog ​​does not deserve this. You get designs that are out of this world. This game looks amazing. Then, the story takes a lot of things from the first game and just disregards it. Joel's character development from the first game gets taken and thrown into the garbage. He make decisions he would have NEVER made in the first game. Its a revenge story that ends in not allowing you to get revenge? The characters feel poorly written compared to the first. If this wasn't a "The Last Of Us" game, maybe it wouldn't have been taken so negatively. The fact is that it IS a 'The Last Of Us" game where a foundation has already been built and the writers smacked their whole audience in the face with this new installment. Take this games graphics and re-write this story because this is something that shouldn't be cannon to the original. Actually, just delete this game and never make a new "The Last Of Us". The point of the game is to make you upset and go through awful things with unlikable characters that are not even mentioned in the trailer.     El juego en sí no es malo pero no vive a la altura de la primera parte y mis problemas con el juego son:

    - La primera parte del juego la sentí algo lenta, me sentí mucho mejor cuando dejamos a Dina en el teatro. - La mitad del juego nos obligan a jugar con Abby, personaje que mató a Joel al inicio del juego. No estoy en contra de que hayan incluido su punto de vista y la razón del por qué hizo todo lo que hizo pero hubiera sido mejor si nos hubieran dado la opción de jugarlo por separado como pasó en Resident Evil 4 con el segmento de Assigment Ada, donde pasaba exactamente lo mismo solo que desde el punto de Ada. Hubiera sido aceptable que ya, lo hubieran puesto dentro de la historia principal tal como lo han hecho, pero el problema es que es un segmento demasiado largo, prácticamente la mitad del juego con un personaje que desde un principio te hicieron odiar y que tratan de humanizarlo pero ya construyeron esa barrera de rechazo, lo que hace que sea un poco tedioso jugar con ese personaje y por tan largo tiempo y más aún haberte cortado una parte tan crucial del juego para jugar con ella.

    - El final no me parece malo, sino más bien interesante ya que no siempre podemos conseguir un final feliz y la forma en la que lo representan me gustó, pero lo que sí odié y no me gustó para nada fue que Ellie haya perdido los dedos, lo que le impide tocar guitarra y por ende echando a la basura uno de los regalos que Joel le había dado y por ende uno de las formas para recordarlo.    … Expand

    Horrible story ! Naughty dog really dropped the ball on this one , the beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay can’t make up for the horrendous story . They took some of the best written characters and killed one of them off and then wrote the other one to be unlikeable in an attempt to make us sympathize with one of the most poor written characters ever !

You play as Ellie until they kill off Joel. Then they get you to spend the next 10 hours playing as a very manly female character that killed Joel. Those 10 hours I just wanted this character to die the whole time and I grew 0 connection to her. Finally at the end of the story Ellie is going to get her revenge....and she wusses out and let's her go for some reason. The story was horrible. Everything else was good, but the story is supposed to be the best part about naughty dog games.… Expand

Trailers hook you up and make you really wanna playing it immediately when it comes out. That happens and damn! Joel is dead!! It’s fine, but don’t humiliate him like that with a gulf club!! The guy, for god’s sake, survived 20 years and couldn’t even fight back even for one bit. Let him throw a punch at least. What’s worse is the flashbacks. I mean you made it worse guys. There is a lot of issues with flashbacks I don’t feel good talking about, but at the very end when Ellie couldn’t let go, travel to the California leaving Dina and “potato” as she put it to seek revenge. You can’t kill off the main character and expect the player to be sympathetic to the killer. The plot just didn’t line up, especially since Joel would never give his name up so easily and be so trusting. The should have just taken this game back to the drawing board. As a fan, I’m honestly really hurt that the franchise that affected my life so much is now one the biggest disappointments I’ll ever have to know. Ellie and Joel didn’t feel like video game characters to me in the first game, they felt like real people. But in tlou2, it just seemed like they were lacking in that connection with the player.     Good game gameplay wise. If you like the game play of the first its much the same with a few new abilities. It's a step up graphically and has a lot more combat animations. The story wasn't as good as the original imo but it's still a pretty decent game. Nothing ground breaking just modest upgrades from the original. Game of year contender? I'll reserve judgement until cyberpunk 2977.

The gameplay improve a lot that is great, HOWEVER almost every fan loved this game for the history and characters, we didn't play the first part to save the freaking planet, we did it in order to see the history between Ellie and Joel, when we saw and felt how Joel retake a lost special feeling when travel with Ellie and know that he doesn't want to lose his new family. If I have to be honest I was afraid because I couldn't find the way to explain a new plot in order to justify a second part for this game. Now I know this was the worst way to do it, we literally have to play with the damn killer, and you try .. no, you make the player take some kind of empathy to this character and it doesn't work. At the end Ellie lost everything, the last chapter when Ellie went to California in order to find Abby was the worst idea I ever see; Ellie didn't reach her goal (well, she does, but at that point anything didn't have a sense. That fight was bland for me), and she end's alone (WTF).....
    I think they did this part after see they screw up at beginning. Literally 60% of history are flashbacks that are not flash (bad joke I know)....
    They show us characters without relevance and poor development that as you know if you played they died in bland way....
    SUMMARY, is a great game if you really don't care the plot, sadly this game for the most of us is no just the graphics.    … Expand

The gameplay is a step up from the original with new and smoother animations, introduced mechanics and a few extra craftables and player upgrades available. I certainly had fun exploring Seattle and Santa Barbara in all its glory. The visuals and sound effects are second to none and the amount of detail in each level is remarkable. HOWEVER, the story and characters are something else entirely. Joel has been around since outbreak day and has always had trust issues when it comes to people e.g. He sees an ‘injured’ man in Pittsburgh and knows it’s a trap straight away. He leaves a family on the side of the road at the start of tlou. Yet the writing in this game is so bad that we’re expected to believe he’s going to tell a bunch of strangers his name, about the settlement and where they’re living, and then stand in the middle of the room surrounded and helpless like a deer in the headlights. It’s tragic when Joel dies but what’s worse is the ludicrously unbelievable way in which it happens. This is why people are pissed, not because Joel is dead, but because of how he dies. Even before his death the writers have undone everything from the first game as the relationship between Joel and Ellie is uncomfortable from the start of part 2. I would have preferred Ellie to have found out the truth about the fireflies at the very end of part 2, thus not tainting her relationship with Joel as well as justifying why she spared Abby as she realises Joel deserves to die for his actions. After finishing the game some 25 hours later, I can tell you the story continues its downward trend throughout, with choppy flashbacks and a skewed timeline; it’s as if the writers dropped the script and then couldn’t put the pages back the right way so just went with it anyway. Character development is lacking, I found myself caring more about the death of Tess after 30 minutes of gameplay in tlou than the death of characters like Jesse and whatever Levs’ sister’s name is after hours of playing with them in tlou2. There’s millions of other points to touch on about this game but I’m already repeating what thousands of fans have already said. It’s a shame a storyline as remarkable as tlou is brought down by an unnecessary sequel. Also lack of factions is very disappointing. Ignore all the stupid 0/10. Even if you think the story is hot garbage, the game itself is enjoyable and the immersion of the world is impeccable. Anything less than 3-4/10 would be a false review from someone who is; joining the bandwagon of hate, reached Joel’s death and is angry, believes that the directors and writers have an agenda to push. You don’t spend 7 years making a game to push an agenda onto the world.

Then for another 10-15 minutes or longer you look for another door or another power switch to open another door but you have to run in circles and check 8 other doors to find the right one to open. Most reviews do not like the story but i have no issues necessarily with the risks they took with it. that's their choice and just bc ppl don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. The gameplay however is poorly paced, slow, lacking, and honestly possibly the most boring game i've played this year. For me this game is like a 3 or a 4. You kind of forget all the weaknesses that happened before. In the middle part it gets a bit tiring. Scenarios, where you have to kill everybody and move forward (or just move forward (to the next tall building)) repeat themselves rather often. In addition to that, there is the part where we have to play as Abby, which gets really fatiguing after a while. In contrast to other reviews I don't think that this is because we particularly hate her so much, but because it's a flashback. Most of the time there was no real suspense because we always knew what it would lead to. Sadly this part filled a lot of the game, so it was quite boring to play for a long time. (On the other hand, I can't think of a way how they could have done this better without compromising the story.)

In reality, it has some of the best graphics of any game I played this generation, very smooth gameplay and, although you may not like where it goes, the story is good. Just because someone was bold enough to make a decision you might not like from a story standpoint, it is not a reason to hate a game that is great otherwise. Many of the problems that people had before the game even launched with the leaks was deaths. If you expect to come into the Last of Us Part 2 and not have characters die you should probably put down your controller and go grab your Switch and play Animal Crossing. It would be like watching a war movie and expecting no one to die.

    The bottom line is even if you end up hating the story the gameplay is fluid, the graphics are fantastic, the environments are amazing and the exploration is engaging. If you're hating that bad on the story skip the cutscenes and just have fun with the game and stop trying to ruin it for other people.    … Expand

    Incredibly disappointing. The visuals are nice and the voice actors did a good job with What they were giving, but aside from that this was a waste of my time and money.

    Gameplay feels exactly the same as it was in 2013 with no real update, it’s still serviceable but I was expecting so much more. As far as the story goes I’ll stay away from spoilers. I’ll just say this: many games in the    Incredibly disappointing.     A masterpiece in terms of gameplay and graphics, but doesn't come near the first one in terms of narrative. Althought it's still a good story, it works better as a standalone game than a sequel. The Violence in this game is the most realistic ever seen, it's brutal, could be fun for some or repulsive for others. Didn't like some decisions made in regarding of some of the beloved charactersA masterpiece in terms of gameplay and graphics, but doesn't come near the first one in terms of narrative.     Llamarle juego a escenas de sexo inecesarias y la forzada inclusion de personajes que no tienen nada que ver a la historia lo hace una porqueria de juego y ni hable de la muerte de joel un juego de superviviencia termino en la rosa de la guadalupe

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
