    It's not about politics, the inclusion of certain minorities or even the gameplay itself, it's about how much disrespect a company can has to it's own creation, how much they can change it's characters just for the sake of it, to make a disgusting mess of story and suck at giving a valid metaphor.

    This is not a spoiler, I didn`t play the game but I hate the payouts to great gaming pages to get high scores. However, the first part have a interesting story and this sequel its an insult to all the players and fans. 0/10 indeed

    Oh my word. The only reason I didn't rate this a 0 is because of the graphics and the look and feel of the game. That's stunning, but the game play isn't great and the atrocious story line forced me to score this a 1. If you played the first game, DON'T DON'T DON'T play this one. The politically correct forcefeeding is sickening. My wife could not watch the game. She loved the 1st one. Horrible.

It's easier to blame the strawman of incels and gamergaters than to acknowledge that the game is extremely divisive. Same playbook as the new star wars trilogy and i am not here for it. Im an LGBTQIA+ woman, so no, this is not based on me being any of the buzzwords you want to throw out. A pretty game with a story that seems written for a creative writing class in middle school. Also the bad optics of releasing a game where you watch the man that you (Ellie) loved like a father get beat to death ON FATHERS DAY WEEKEND, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Im heartbroken for the characters, the people who spent years working on this, and all the fans who DIDNT see the spoilers, DIDNT read the users reviews, and BELIEVE all the outlets saying everyone who is rating this negatively hates LGBT or didnt play the game.… Expand

    It is disgusting! We keep receiving products with inclusive Sh*t. We are done with this kind of progressive crap. The story is just horrible, and you cannot kill the main character just because it will give you more attention to the media.

    PD: We are OK with LGBT stuff, it's awesome, but it is clear that it was forced.

    This game is nothing like its predecessor. The story and character actions make little sense. Sure, there is a bit of fun to be had if you ignore the story. Very unsatisfying. Also no multiplayer?? Unbelievable.

    Graphics are good as expected from a Naughty Dog game, game play is similar to the first one but my god the characters are bad and make stupid decisions.
    Also god awful story and destroys everything the first game built. Apparently it's a Must play game - what a joke it's a waste of money and precious time. I will definitely be returning this game and get my money's worth.

    The game is boring, the only thing they improved from the firs one is the graphics, everything else is the same or worse and dont even let me begin with the story, the lack of good characters made it feel empty and i just couldnt empathise with anyone. I feel sorry for the poor designers that did such a good job in the graphics but the story and the gameplay is awfull, not recomendable.

    The game takes the story that TLOU worked well to make and just **** on it, it lies to the fans about Joel, It lies about Ellie being the only playable character, makes you play as Abby but doesn't give you any excuse to like her, just inserts her in as Joel's killer, no of the other characters give you any reason to like them. Ellie completely changes from what she was in TLOU, some of her decisions don't even make any sense when compared to who she was in TLOU even if she's "grown up| and speaking of Grown up, there's almost ten to none character development, whatever character development there was, must have been hidden under its just terrible story. The ending is even more ass then the story itself. Its a story about revenge.

    The gameplay; its nothing, it does little to improve upon the first game's gameplay and just seems like the most basics of a combat system, its nothing special but is functional and decent enough where you can at least kill enemies without any issue; too bad that game constantly tries to shame you for doing the most basic of actions that almost all games share; Killing enemies in order to progress and survive. It does so without impunity and generally just makes it unfun. The upgrade system isn't anything either, again, its just one of the most basic things implemented in that is just functional and decent enough that you can use it without issue, only real flavor to it is watching the gun/weapons be taken apart a little but even that is shallow compared to even some older games with a more advanced upgrade system that runs on less powerful consoles and systems. The stealth is pretty bare-bones as well and runs just like your traditional "hey there's stealth in this game too, so yeah" type of games, sure, I'll admit, the dogs do provide uniqueness to it with being able to sniff you out and lead their owners too you needing you to make a quick decision on killing the dog and their owner too, but again, that's rather bare-bones since that's a situation that pops up in games with any resemblance of a stealth system and still occurs in games with even arguably better stealth systems, hell, even in MGS and Splinter Cell you still run into those scenarios with the enemies just simply following their basic patrol routes. Speaking of enemies; the AI has improved, kind of, from previously TLOU, but is still rather stupid. The human enemies in my honest opinion are just zombies with guns capable of sounding human and thats it.

    ND has falsely advertised this game. They took what the first game created and burnt it, stabbed it, stomped it and beat it into the dirt then tried to stick it back up. Just because your first game does well, doesn't always mean you need to create a sequel, especially if you're going to trash it like what happened here. Also, who the **** makes a self-insert of themselves for a game they're making, puts it in, spits on one of the main characters they killed and then proceeded to **** irrelevant character we just put in that everyone hated within just two hours of the game?    … Expand

    Now then, to sum this game up, I would have to say that the game is glorified torture porn, with amateur levels of story writing. I would rate this lower if it wasn't for the very real possibility of my review being deleted.
    The game essentially starts out with the main character, Joel, from the first game being brutally murdered in front of you, the viewer's eyes, and his surrogate daughter. Then you're forced to continue playing as this psychotic monster that would murder an old man in front of her daughter, fast forward to the end, Abby, the psycho who murdered Ellie's surrogate father has been crucified for several days, and has been tracked down by Ellie. Now any reasonable person would assume that Ellie, the seasoned murderer set on revenge would finish the job and kill Abby, but instead she has a flashback about Joel, the also seasoned murdered who wouldn't hesitate a second to murder Abby if she did that to Ellie. Ellie decides to spare Abby for some reason, but then she has the same flashback about Joel and now decides she can't leave after all. This was a huge mistake because this psychopath who has been starved and crucified for days has the strength to obliterate Ellie, as she easily bites off her fingers as if they were baby carrots. The game ultimately ends with Abby sailing away scot free, Joel left unavenged, and Ellie's life completely ruined (Abby did a lot of other stuff to her like beating her girlfriend half to death. Ellie's girlsfriend getting pregnant and leaving her)    … Expand

The Agenda behind this game is better suited to a completely different IP and feels out of place.     Pandering is not "story telling". But if you believe pandering is a great way to tell a story, then you are profoundly wrong.
    The studio's choices were apparently motivated by various reasons; unfortunately these reasons are not really valid since they ignore a great number of games that already used what this game tried to shove down our throat. And these games received great reviews from the users. ND felt like reinventing the wheel I suppose...

    Another thing that "bothered" me is the amount of "young girl on young girl" actions in this game, to the point I wondered if it wasn't bordering on fetishism from the creator.

The gameplay is too similar to the first game, which in my opinion is outdated, but maybe they wanted to make it familiar to old players.

    The story of this game is absolute trash, they kill beloved characters just for the "viewer-shock" purpose of it, their deaths weren't well developed and didn't add up to the game in a hole.

    I will say this game would be good if it was a stand alone game not releated with the "The Last of Us Franchise", but they just destroyed everything the franchise was based on and replaced it with a poor story line. That said i will give it a 0 score because i think it's importante to spread the message that the community is not happy with it.    … Expand

    Graphics are amazing, the game is really immersive. The background designs are top notch and stunningly beautiful.They really made use of the PS4's capabilities. The small details they added in are cool like adding steam to a coffee cup. The character models are fantastic and the hair looks super good on all of them.

    That being said:

    The story tried to "subvert expectations" and failed miserably.

    Let's talk about the elephant in the room: Abby. The game spends more time on her than Ellie herself. The entire time I spent playing her was me begging to go back to playing Ellie's story. Ellie actually seems to be a secondary character in this game, with Abby being the main character. The developers tried to make us feel bad for Abby even though she killed Joel, who killed her dad in the first game (one of the surgeons trying to cut Ellie open).

    Joel's death was a gruesome and unnecessarily violent scene to the point I wished I hadn't seen it. What made the scene even worse was Ellie in the background begging Abby to stop while being forced to watch with nothing she could do about it. (Ellie later develops PTSD from this scene).

    The storyline was confusing, and at times, downright boring. Honestly? I don't care about any of the other groups in the game. I don't care about Abby or anyone she loves getting killed. Good. I want to see her suffer. The idea to have Abby kill Joel at the beginning of the game was a stupid decision and the person who decided that needs to get fired. That should've been placed at the end of the game so the drive to find Abby would've been stronger, and so we would care more about her before she killed Joel.

    The flashbacks are so bad. I couldn't tell whether or not I was in a flashback, or in a flashback of a flashback. I couldn't remember whether or not I was in the present time anymore. Like I said previously, most of the game is spent on Abby, Joel's killer. If you despise her for what she did then don't play this game. Most of the flashbacks are about her and her friends or lovers. We don't care about Abby or anything about her.

    I can't even remember any of the new characters in her story besides Abby herself and Lev (who is her lover?? Who knows). I can't remember the other groups and what they do like the "Scars" who are bad apparently. I guess I was so bored I forgot what made them bad. There were a couple other ones like the one Abby was a part of but I don't remember it at all and I don't care to.

    On the other hand:

    Ellie's story was really sweet and intense and I wished I could play more of it. She goes on an absolute rampage across country to hunt down Abby, killing everyone in her way. There's not much else I can say about it because of how little she appears in the game. She shouldn't even be on the cover, honestly. What I can remember is her relationships with her friends and how cool it was. There were flashbacks of Joel and Ellie that I couldn't get enough of.

    Here's the part that will forever make me mad. Warning: rant time.

    Ellie doesn't kill Abby. I can't wrap my head around it. Why? We all hate her. Ellie hates her. Just do it.

    That and the fact that Abby bit her fingers off and then was able to escape with Lev scot-free. Abby STILL got the last word, so what was even the point of chasing after her?

    What made me cry a little is the realization that no one cares about Ellie anymore. She has no friends since they're all dead now, her girlfriend left with their child when Ellie made the decision to chase after Abby. Tommy doesn't seem to care since he left thinking Ellie wouldn't go get revenge. There's literally no one left alive that cares about her anymore. Her only comfort is the memories she has of Joel and that empty house that her and her girlfriend stayed in.

    Ellie came back to an empty house, injured, depressed, with PTSD, no closure for Joel, and abandoned by everyone she loves. Ellie didn't deserve this. Joel didn't deserve this.

    it is possibly one of the worst sequels to a great game due to various reasons:
    1:The Last of us was a game that received universal acclaim due to it's great storytelling , which this game completely abandons , there is no character development, joel's death is executed so poorly , it seems that the writers just forgot who he was in the first game.

    2: Joel's killer abby is simply a forced insertion of a character that serves as a hook for the rest of the game's theme (revenge).We are then forced to play as her and her backstory in order to sympathize with her, which is just lazy writing because this formula can be applied to any character that joel had something to do with in the game.

    3:Finally after the gruesome killing spree that ellie goes on in order to avenge joel;s death , in the end she forgives abby , which just leaves the players with no sense of accomplishment .

    This game is just an excuse for a political message that neil druckmann had been wanting to give for a very long time. It clearly shows :
    1: Neil druckmann being inspired by anita sarkeesian(a toxic feminist)

    2: His views on female characters in video games being sexualized (which is actually how women look like imo rather than a male bodybuiler lookalike abby).

    3:Forced sex scene of abby and owen (which is neil druckmann's self insert) and looks more like two guys pegging each other .

    4:This double standard that natural women with curvy bodies are bad but gay/lesbian/trans porn is good.ex: Sony censoring many anime games from japan but allowing abby and owen's sex scene

    Overall this game is a reminder that toxic feminism , sjw politics and woke agenda are bad for any entertainment product (which seems to be the case in western media nowadays )ex: Star Wars the last jedi , doctor who , this game etc .     On the bright side, the creativity in the plot development and the courage to go for big moves is still there (I kinda liked big twists in the beginning and middle of the game), but the ability to handle them and turn into great characters and plot is just missing.     The insertion of peak 2016 identity politics and 'rian johnsoning' of the story dissolve any credibility with this project. Complete with a bleak and dull story and weak subversion of sarkesian proportions that make this an absolute pantomime performance. Nice graphics. Massively unlikeable characters.

    should have made a straight to TV movie instead.

I've been playing games for over 20 years, if this is a perfect game then I don't want to buy new releases anymore. The story could never hold up on its own, the graphics and atmosphere can only carry so much.

    The first The Last Of Us was amazing, very good, but this one, really bugged, frame drop a lot, I felt like my PS4 Pro could fly anytime. But the worst was the I felt the history very short, much more about being a leftist propaganda than an post-apocalyptic game background like the first one.

Joel now is a monster who killed an innocent man (how many brains did your daddy cut off before Ellie's, huh Abby? But of course it was in a name of the mankind so doesn't count). And Ellie is a psycho who cuts out crowds of people (according to the ending - with no reason aka just because).
    Do u really think i would be happy to spend 10 hrs of playing character that have killed Joel in such a disgusting and cruel way. Really? Who in the world could think it's a good idea? Ellie killed like 1k of ppl and in the end realised that revenge it's BAD and leads to nowhere. Wooow. Very long and boring game. Esp. second part. It was a torture for me.     I give this game 1 star because of the homophobic & political stance it takes. I wanted neither when I put it the game in & played it for an hour. This is not a video game, it’s Sony’s entry into pandering into the lqbt community. Just please don’t waste your money on this game. The graphics weren’t bad, it ran flawless. The story is the worst one I’ve ever seen.

    Woah has a game ever pissed away it’s legacy so fast as last of us 2. Loved the first game for the story and hoped that this one would continue in the same vein and improve the gameplay. The gameplay is clunky and the story is just terrible. Avoid at all costs.

If you noticed, every positive review is along the lines of "I don't understand the hate. I'm 2 hours in and I'm loving it." The reason for so many dislikes is because the second half of the game is all based on an unlikeable character that feels like torture. It's so incredibly boring followed by one of the worst endings I've ever seen. The ending might appeal to some with a message of forgiveness but that's not what we came here for.

    The game is literally called "The Last of Us PART 2" implying it's connected to the first game. Spending half the game as a character many dislike just to let them get away is awful. You don't play Super Mario Bros expecting a goomba to be the main character. That doesn't make it edgy or unique, it just makes it silly and against what the fans wanted. Imagine the goomba beating the crap out of Mario's family and Mario goes for revenge. Mario finally catches him and lets him go.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will try to leave spoilers out about the first game and focus more on the second game, The Last of Us Part 2 is why you are reading this review anyways.

    Remember the stong father like figure you played in the first game? Well now things are different. Did you think he would be very careful after having so much experience surving both hostile engagements from both human and infected? You thought wrong. Joel is killed very early on in the story, but for what purpose you may ask? Just to introduce a new character. Who the heck do they think they are? Who are they anyways? Here, let me answer that. They are the daughter of someone you killed. Let me narrow that down for you. Just the surgeon who was going to operate on Ellie in the first game. That person was the only npc players couldnt choose not to kill. You can stealth past entire sections in the game if you are good enough and it does allow you to have a bunch of ammo saved for the last level so it is worth it on higher difficulties. So the writers thought it would be a great idea to force a character in? Then they make us play as her? That is just insult to injury. They try to introduce a whole bunch of characters. It seems like a great idea, if they expanded on them and went deeper into their stories, but they dont do that. That turns out to be a waste of potential. So Ellie’s quest is to now seek revenge and go after the person that killed Joel. On this journey, she gets some new mechanics and some new tools, but deep down the gameplay feels and looks very similar to the first game. It is as if they brought in barely anything new. They did bring some new enemy types but that gets bland fast since their aren’t many new things you can do. The jump button is an overhyped thing, but going prone is pretty cool. As Ellie goes on her journey, she kills Abby’s friends and slowly gets closer as she tracks her down. Does she finally get her revenge? Well, here’s the message that Naughty Dog forces into their story. They want to push this idea that the circle of revenge is bad. Yes it is bad, but it also makes for bad story telling and a very unfun game. Aren’t video games supposed to be fun and enjoyable to an extent? Yes games should be challenging too, (I didnt find this version to be that difficult at all) but if the challenge gives the player reward and actual feeling of success and accomplishment, then it did its job. If it didnt, then why bother playing the game. In the end, Ellie does not carry out her revenge on Abby. She is blocked by a flashback of Joel and stops her from going through with it. Ellie goes back home to try and find herself. She cant find her friend Dina anymore. She lost several friends and Joel to Abby and her friends. She is alone in the world. At that point, Naughty Dog could have given players a chance to make a decison for themselves. It would not have saved the game, but allowed them to not force their message, but instead show what it means. The player just has no control and can’t carry out Ellie’s revenge. The cycle of revenge pauses and the game ends on a cliffhanger, easily setting up for a possible sequel. The story easily feels like a subverting expectations from Star Wars: The Last Jedi or Game of Thrones Season 8. There is just no payoff. It feels as if they had a story when they started, but then they scrapped it for something low quality so can fit a lot characters that mean almost nothing. Lev doesnt even have to be in the game. If you take out group that kidnaps children, then he doesnt even need to exist. That entire arc just feels like filler. The whole game is a weird fanfic that doesnt feel necessary to connect to the first game. Now for a retcon and something that really bothered me. Remember that moment in the first game where Marlene tells Joel about the possibilty of a vaccine? If you listen to the audio tapes, it is revealed that the Fireflies have found more immune people before knowing about Ellie. However, the procedure they performed kept killing them and no vaccine came from every attempt. Ellie was practically their last chance at a vaccine, but if you use logic, it is easy to see that they would just end up killing Ellie for nothing. That puts Joel in the right for rescuing Ellie right? (It is morally gray but hey it is the story of a man who doesnt want to lose his chance of being a father again and he does see the logic that their operation wouldnt save her or the human race.) It is hard to say right or wrong because Joel has done some bad things to survive. Does he tell Ellie all of this? The second game retcons and changes things. They mention cure and not vaccine. They dont mention any of the failed attempts the Fireflies have made which would mean their have been other immune people that existed or still exist, but would make no difference. So Ellie just hates Joel, for different reasons and changes to the story. It is like they didnt even care about the first game at all.    … Expand

    As a whole it is a classic game is pretty well done but I find the repetitive gameplay and the story not credible to finish I am not homophobic but I do not tolerate the propaganda of "LGBT" and other bad intentions.

    Embarrassingly enough, I spent $100 on this game, and regret it fully. Graphically beautiful, mechanics are alright, gameplay itself is meh, and plot had been butchered. Sad to see another series go down like this :(

    What a shame. Took a game franchise I loved and gave it a horrendous treatment in it's first (and hopefully last) sequel.

    This is a horrible example of creators who have taken their power and used it for their own gain.
    This game follows the first game so much so I'd say you would have had to have played the first to play this.

    Honestly it's hard to try and find good in this game as it's meant to be a story driven game and if the folks who are making this don't understand the characters and the story. They have chosen to throw it all away for VS points.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
