    First of all, let's start with the positive points: The game is technically successful, even though it's downgraded from the first teaser. The environments are varied and teeming with details. The animations, especially the faces, are a success.

    Concerning the gameplay, it is rather dated. It suffers from exactly the same problems as the first one, but we are in 2020. A certain slowness is perceptible and the gunfights are very soft. The puzzles presented along the game are very simplistic, one often wonders about their usefulness. The game is of course extremely scripted and full of QTE, which quickly becomes tiresome / annoying.

    Let's get to the most annoying point: The storyline. If the first one was an example in terms of writing, taking all the prizes on its way, TLOU 2 is far from taking the same path. And that's a HUGE problem, because the game is presented above all as a kind of interactive film. Unlike the first one, I didn't feel any attachment to the characters and their stories. There is no sense of identification, no empathy that emerges during this adventure. The player watches the story from a distance, like a boat capsizing. The only perceptible feeling was regret, regret for having spent 60 bucks on this game. I don't even want to talk about the end, which clearly deliver the final blow to me.

    Sony has done every attempt to mask the games flaws. The writer of this games is a comp science major, which probably explains the psychopathic behaviours of the characters we knew and loved.
    Gameplay and visuals were okay, an upgrade but nothing to write home about. Facial emotions and expressions are done very well. The only redeeming aspect of this game would be the accessibility options, it's got a ton almost enough to be complain about. Save your cash and watcha playthrough if you are interested in experiencing the story for yourself, but be warned, a high schooler could've come up with a better story than this,    … Expand

    I just finished playing through this game and I have never wished I had not played a game more. The story ( in particular the ending) was terrible. I am disappointed that I got my hopes up so much for this game.

How does one have seven years to develop a story just to make it blatantly obvious that characters were written to fit a specific agenda rather than have these characters naturally evolve to what they should have been.     I didn't enjoy this. It just wasn't a fun experience. The jumping mechanics and verticality is b asically never even used except for contextual segments. It's mostly just shooting stuff, which gets repetitive and doesn't feel very intuitive with a controller. It even had less puzzles than TLoU 1. Make a new game with that dont force it down on older already established games ffs and thats not even the biggest problem in this game its just that its boring, too long and with messages that are stupid...     Where to even begin with this mess. The game is suppose to be a sequel to the first game but takes a dip on it's story telling, characters and world. This game should be used as an example on how to not make a story heavy game. As a loving fan of the first game I would now like to just forget that this mess ever made it onto my console.

    Sometimes you have to take risks to make changes to the story of a game and make it more interesting, but this time the change made the story worse,The Last of us, which for me was the best game in story mode of all time, introduced new characters that were atrocious ruining a video game that was excellent.

Me ha decepcionado mucho lo que han hecho con los personajes del primero y la inclusion de temas como la homofobia y la xenofobia totalmente forzados. Soy de izquierdas y me parece innecesario lo que estan haciendo. Espero que Neil Druckman y Sony pida disculpas a los jugadores.     The characters we loves just aren't their true selves anymore, they force you to play as the killer of one of the main protagonist (which honestly i have 0 interest in doing) and they ruin an entire franchise for some crap sjw propaganda.

    main reaons people fell in love with the LOU is the story behind ellie and joel where we we baited into thinking it would be another adventure for them. This changes very quickly within the first 2 hours of the game where joel is brutily murdered by the character that we're forced to play as for half the game.
    the ending is ridiclious and contradicts the whole point of ellies story

But having marketing tlou2 as ellie story is misleading. Side characters are bland and the force of using violence and no 2nd choice to avoid violence is awful. congrats ND you made a very divisive game and alets be honest. for such a narrative heavy driven game, ND decides to kill off a beloved character just to move the plot. im only not giving it a 0 for the game play improvement.     Good visuals, my favourite thing about the entire game was the melee animations. Worst storyline I have ever seen, also it's clear throughout the game that the developers were just trying to force an LGBTQ+/SJW agenda and it made it a lot worse because of that.

    there is no dubt that the development team tried to make a ambitious sequel, but thier ideas ruiend the game. the gameplay and how the charetcer intract with the world elements was good so I will give it 1 score. the game was buggy with an awful story, the cinematic sences was much more than the gameplay.

    .....and what a snooze fest. The story is not only awful, but the gameplay is SO dragged out that by the time you reach the next cutscene or telling point you’ve forgotten what was going on in the first place. Also there is a lot of ‘Go here and find this person to then find this person and then find this person’.....jeeeeez it is is dull. The only thing I can give this game is the graphics and sound design, the visuals are absolutely stunning (but even then the scenery gets repetitive reallllllyyyy quickly). Also I did like the gun animations whilst on the work bench, they were dope so whoever made those good job. Overall if you’re thinking about buying this game i’d advise you to save your money and just watch a walkthrough on YouTube if you’re still debating it, you’ll no doubt turn it off within a few hours anyway. Final note: Neil Druckman and Naughty Dog should be ashamed at not only the game itself but also the way they handled the leaks, the team had truly showed their colours and for this reason alone I won’t even be resaling my copy but instead throwing it in the bin, no one should have to endure this garbage narrative.    … Expand

The "game" (and it is necessary to put that in quotes) pulls the player by the ear through a deluge of dragged out cut-scenes and walking simulator sections of "gameplay" involving possibly the most dour and unrelatable characters ever committed to a video game, hammering home that simplistic message over a 20 odd hrs - which feels way too long - average playtime. The scant gameplay that is offered is largely unchanged from the first game and is serviceable. The graphics are very well done but as the industry as a whole has upped its game in this regard it is no longer a selling point to most people. I truly cannot understand what thought processes where occurring at Naughty Dog or Sony, this was a gimme and somehow not only have they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory but have also have done irreparable damage to the cannon of The Last Of Us universe. In the first game the studio went for a grounded feeling, even though it was set in a generic zombie apocalypse the humanity of the characters and the relationships between them pulled the story through and made the game something very special. It is clear in this game they chose out of sheer hubris to disregard that which made the original a success and instead focus on an insipid plot that pulls grotesque cardboard characters through to its ignominious and pretentious conclusion. This sequel kills what fans loved about the original, replaces what was established with nothing of consequence and has the very real potential of being an IP killer.… Expand

    The story is incredibly boring and generic. The game play is stale and clunky, and in true Naughty Dog fashion we are given multiple "quicktime" button mashing events. How can game designers justify this press X to not die "gameplay" in 2020?

    Furthermore, the story is nothing new. It is yet another "you killed my father, prepare to die" revenge plot, where neither side gets any sort of payoff at the end.
    Abby kills Joel, a hardened survivor who has shown previously to never trust strangers. How does Abby kill Joel you ask? He walks into a room full of strangers and tell them who he is.

    Ellie witnesses this, and goes on a revenge mission to kill Abby. Who was the daughter of the surgeon we killed at the end of TLOU 1. This is her reasoning for killing Joel.

    Anyways, Ellie goes on a killing spree, tearing her way across the country, killing anyone who gets in her way, tracking down Abby. But not before we are forced to play as Abby for a large portion of the game.

    In the end, you control Ellie, and are given a final fight against Abby, which is played out in a quicktime event. You nearly kill her, almost drowning her to death. Victory and catharsis is finally at hand...

    Then Ellie just... Lets her get away. You have no control or choice over this, Ellie suddenly believes that Killing is Wrong, despite murdering 100+ people just to get to this moment. Its just godawful storytelling.

    Terrible writing, Boring Combat, Very poor representation of LGBTQ+ characters,coupled with completely unrequired violence (Its basically just torture porn for 30 hours straight). Leads to a terrible, boring slog of a "game".

    The only positive I can give this game is that the environments are beautiful and well crafted, big applause to the people that design the world.

    The story is a dumpster fire and the characters are not who you know and loved. I will never buy another Naughty Dog game until Neil is removed from the team.    … Expand

So here it is, with a better number because I want people to read this... Naughty dog has fallen very low with this one! you can't silence people, we pay for your game and we deserve to have an opinion. What a disgusting company.

    I was truly hoping the leaks were not entirely true, and I was right, they were not even close. It turned out the game is WORST. Yes, the graphics are amazing... yes, the character modeling is breathtaking, the textures, scenarios, and the gameplay are great and fun.. if you dont care about the story then this game might be one of the best yet. But honestly, the last of us has ALWAYS been about the STORY and the CHARACTERS... how they grow together and share a caotic world. Not how they go around murdering each other and changing everything you came to love when playing the first part.

    What they did to them and the story itself is UNFORGIVEABLE.
    Also, most of the last trailers they showed were 100% misleading, showing Joel interacting with Ellie in several occasions, looking older as if it was happening at the time and it was all a LIE. All of the conversations they had were "memories" and "flashbacks". They actually went into the game after it was done and changed Joel's appearance for the trailers to make us believe it was new footage and cinematics of the game, and on the ACTUAL game is different, Joel is young and that is not happening in real time of the game. So dissapointing, you thought no one would notice? Why are you trying to fool your own FANS???

    If you plan to buy this game, wait a couple of months when people actually see it for what it is, and it goes to the ground and they sell it for $9.99. Don't waste $60!!!! and if possible, do not give your money to this disgusting company that only lies and cares about tricking fans into buying something is not even worth it, while striking down honest working youtubers for even mentioning the name of the game, just to try to avoid people from finding out what a bad game this was going to be.

    -Oh dear god, the tresure that is the story of this game. I dont know where to begin, without any spoilers the story is a all about "revenge is bad" and nothing else. There are a few side elemnents of "love", and "love" is in huge quotations and some touch of "this guy that you killed about 5 hours ago, that you dont even know their name anymore, was a good guy". But the aspect of "revenge is bad" is just too overwhelming to the point where the game could be three big words saying ""revenge is bad" and it would deliver the same message.
    The ending disastrous, plot lines dont make sense and the big "reveal" about motivations of the main bad guy is something out of bad fanfiction from 2013
    The only good part about the story are flashbacks but even those were sometimes lackluster

    Overall it is a disappointing and sad excuse attempt at a sequel    … Expand

It taunts you by pretending that you have some agency, but it's just choosing which quasi-QTE you play through.

    The writing is just as bad as everyone else has said. Maybe worse. Druckman wants to be Kojima, but working with his mid-70's IQ score makes you realize just how insufficient he is.    … Expand

    I'll start with gameplay. Well, there's nothing revolutionary to witness. Most story-based games show similar mechanics. In its core, TLOU2 is quite fun - but it's nothing we haven't seen, nothing we haven't played and the challenge is really there. PS4 limitations are visible and where graphics are more than decent it's obvious that the game will come to PS5 in its full glory sometime later. Unfortunately most aspects like movement, physics, shooting are all surpassed even by GTA V, a game almost as old as the original TLOU.

    Gameplay is definitely not the weak point of this game. It holds up okay and I doubt anyone expected more. However, here we can see the first sign of why the initial reviews were so undeserved.

    Story is its own disaster. As most fans would tell you, the game does almost everything to stray as far away from expectations as possible. Is this deliberate? Maybe, who knows. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. I will not be going into details as I don't want to spoil and you can read it elsewhere, anyway. One thing I will say though: forcing the player to play for hours as the killer of many's favorite character of all time and then failing to give any sort of katharsis to the player, to other characters, only serves to make the experience as unpleasant and ultimately pointless as possible. Where I've been waiting for epic adventures and chalacter development, we've reseived GoT season 8 - like disappointment, deaths and no resolution to whatever the game started or hinted at.

    The story really is a car wreck and I feel like I've wasted many hours that I should have put into something else.

    Critic reviews are baffling to me. It's unbelievable how a game like that can score 100s so easily. There is absolutely zero material upon which it is based to give the game even a 90, although I can imagine someone's experience may be different to mine. But there's just not enough substance.

    And you know what? For what I believe, it's really cool that the game involves LGBT characters. It's only painful that the way they have been introduced is so negative, that they are completely unlikable, but due to how prominent tat was, it will likely only serve to make the LGBT community more alienated than it already is. It's a real shame and the studio should fu*king apologize for that.    … Expand

The graphics are great. Yup.. Oh and you get to pet the dog. The negatives. Listen, the concept of fighting both sides of a revenge story is actually really cool and interesting. But DON’T do it for a sequel to a story that has 2 characters we have loved and been attached to for 7 years and expect us to enjoy playing a character that kills one of the two, and then we as the player have to actively try and kill the other character we love. Like seriously.. did they expect us to have the same attachment to Abby as Joel/Ellie? I expected Joel to die in TLOU2. I think all of us did. It’s incredibly cliche and predictable, which is arguably a flaw in its own right, but what I despised is the way he was murdered. It’s disgustingly violent and slow. And the fact we are supposed to sympathise with Abby after she did such a thing, and murdering him like that in front of his ‘daughter’, completely degraded her story of getting revenge over her dead dad. She refused to see how murdering a ‘father’ in front of his ‘daughter’ is beyond evil, even after she experienced losing a father herself. There’s no sympathy shown, so how are we so sympathise with such a person?

    Now, I’m not saying Joel and Ellie are angels, but Ellie’s violent actions in TLOU2 would’ve been avoided if it wasn’t for witnessing Joel’s awful death. Joel’s murdering of the Fireflies in the first game was something I always thought to be purposely made for a sequel, because if he threatened or found another way to not mass murder them then there would be no suspenseful set up for a part II. Regardless, he did murder them, and although it was definitely wrong, there is a bigger picture to it than just that. And so, even though he committed such an act, the majority of players still loved him as a character and treasured him even after all these years. THATS what good character writing is. There are many characters written to be villains but are still likeable because of certain characteristics that make them feel human and understandable, even if you wouldn’t act as they did. When it comes to Abby, I wanted to try and feel sympathy. Where Naughty Dog failed was the way she furthered violence instead of seeking closure. Now, I understand from a writers perspective Joel had to die for there to be a purpose in TLOU2 blah blah blah. But what lost me any sympathy for Abby was HOW she reacted. She could’ve killed him to get her revenge for story reasons BUT she could’ve showed hesitance during the killing, or killed him quick so he wouldn’t suffer, or showed heavy regret and pity for the pain she caused. That would’ve made her more real, more likeable and less of a cold murderer. This game is depressing for the sake of being depressing. It feels as though Naughty Dog wanted to create this game to get praise from critics because of the heavy atmosphere and concept rather than care about the fans who have waited 7 years to see their beloved characters. They’ll continue to retweet positive reviews and ignore fans criticism. I will add the only other ‘good’ thing I liked was sparing Dina (lmao this sounds so pathetic) as I just wanted some sort of happiness left for Ellie. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this is just mine, and I choose to pretend this game never existed:)

    None of the main plot points in this game feel deserved.

    I am totally disappointed, they disrespected one of the characters most loved by me and the fans. HE WAS THE SOUL of this franchise. The gameplay is good, but the story is terribly poorly executed. I feel ripped off and like I've been slapped in the face. Sorry but I would call it one of the disappointments of the year.

Even though the first games plot line was nothing unique, it was uplifted by its characters and the contrast of their relationship against the harsh backdrop of the apocalypse. This game is just...bad there is no going around it,i have made an account specificly because of this,i have played the last of us 1 and loved the game and once ive heard the last of us 2 is coming out i was excited but then the leak came out,i got a little dissappointed but i prayed to god they'd fix the game,they didn't,the graphics are great but that's the only saving grace for this game,the developers didn't go for a good game it seems but what has become the modern standard,trying to get the inclusion pass,and that's most positive scores,the gameplay is bad,shooting hasn't changed or improved,the puzzles have somehow gotten worse and VERY quickly become repetitive,the AI still behaves like a blind russian drunk on vodka told to keep guard,the characters get BUTCHERED,if you have played the first game you may know of the scene where Joel and Ellie are driving and ellie asks to help the man but Joel knows its a trap,that's from years in the apocalypse but in the second part just goes "my name is joel here is my brother nice guns you have pal" and that leads to some nostalgia of wii golf,ellie becomes a character i despised and abby a character you have to play as,is equally as bad but they desperately try to make you like her by her petting dogs but ellie mostly killing watch dogs,and the plot becomes a really bad revenge plot,and at the end ellie doesnt even kill abby even after abby killed joel the man who chose ellie over a cure for humanity,and that makes NO sense what so ever and they try to go for the cliche le revenge bad thing.most of the people defending this game say you're homophobic if you hate the game because inclusion.This game is just a waste of money from how bad it is,after so many years in waiting nothing good came out.… Expand

    The game basically took all the good from the first game and threw it away

    The writing is significantly worse, and yet it still the only slightly redeemable aspect of the game

    The gameplay itself is boring, repetitive, and uninspired

    The only people who would enjoy it are those who are payed to play it, plus Rob likes the game so it is trash

    Undeniably beautiful with solid mechanics but the narrative is horribly disappointing. The story feels contrived and full of coincidence with very little pay-off. The first game was a simple story told very well but Part II is nothing more than a cliche told in an uninteresting way. Its sad that the workers at Naughty Dog were exploited and forced into incredibly taxing crunch periods for such a poor quality product. I paid $80 for this game and I wouldn't even say that it is worth $10.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
