And his opinion is more than right. The original game had no real finale and the ending of it is abrupt, holding the audience on the climax of the events. Part II is called Part II because it was conceptualised as the unshown resolution of the story told in the original. It was planned to reveal the full story.
    The problem is that the initial plan of this game being an ending for the original, unfortunately, went downhill since the concept idea for the whole game was made. The Last of Us Part II does not tell the ending of the original The last of Us, it is a completely separate game that has nothing to do with story, characters and messages of the first game. Developers, marketing and anybody else affiliated in the creation of The Last of Us Part II tries to trick audience and fans of the original game, especially the fans of the original. From the simply misleading manipulation of the trailers of the game with the goal of misinforming the viewer, making him believe that this game is what he expects it to be, to the more radical decisions such as replacing the characters of the original with the bland, alternate and poorly written versions of themselves. This game is full of lies, hate and disappointment.

    Joel in this game is not Joel from the original, Ellie from the first game does not appear as the same person in this one. Writers of the game use a bland explanation for this gigantic metamorphosis in character telling in the interviews that "They have grown. Joel has grown and Ellie has grown. They've changed. But those are still the same characters! Please buy this game!". This would be a valid point, of course, if they would make it seem to the player that their changes in personality were not from nowhere, just for the sake of this god awful story.

    The Last of Us is not about apocalypse, not about stealth, not about combat. First of all - The Last of Us is about Joel Miller and Ellie Williams. Take those out of the game - it is not The Last of Us anymore. If this game wasn't called The Last of Us it would be easly named as "Joel and Ellie: The Game". Naughty Dog made and still makes mainly plot driven games, and this one is no excuse.

    What they've done is they took Joel and Ellie from the Joel and Ellie: The Game Part II. Now it's just The Game: Part II. If put correctly it's just "Part II" now. Second part of the game that nobody knows, nobody cares about. The only reason you can enjoy it - only through pure gameplay, neglecting the story, poorly written characters and political pandering added to the game just for the sake of pandering towards the radical liberal audience, that does not play their games, neither buy them.
    The story of The Last of Us Part II has nothing to do with the story of the original. Characters are boring and utmost just bland. The ideas and themes tackled in this game are interesting, but uncovered and represented poorly. Also secure, but strongly distasteful signs of political SJW agenda were included, example: characters appearances were redesigned with the intension of making them look uglier (ugly = realistic); unauthentic towards the game's setting terminology such as "bigot" is used with the feministic context and etc.

    Gustavo Santaolalla's soundtrack plays a minor role compared to the treatment of the original game to the music.

    Combat mechanics are greatly improved: 1 point.

    Visuals of the game are astonishing: 1 point ( - 1 point considering the treatment to the developers team, crunches and attempts of Sony and Naughty Dog to hide the real nature of appearance of the leaks).

The plot was pretty much You killed my dad so imma kill yours, yo you killed my dad so Imma kill you and your friends. Yo you killed my brother so imma kill you and your friends with my adoptive niece. It’s just a Revenge driven plot. I mean it’s hard to sympathize with A character who killed the person that literally made the first game and I think that’s where you lost everyone. Some deaths were pointless right towards the end it seems like you were just cutting people off for the hell of it. And that ending holy **** why did you do that to my girl Ellie. She made one of the hardest decisions in her life and she comes back to nothing that’s weird. Idk story seemed forced, gameplay was quick as hell, and Jesse died for no reason. Btw you guys tried so hard to make it dark.”She’s pregnant “ “That makes it even better” like tf does that even mean my guy? 1/10 in terms of story you tried. 10/10 in terms of gameplay.     Metacritic blocked me to rate this game. Thats just terrible.

    The game wants us to build empthy over a new character who brutally murdered people and brutally beat pregnant woman. This is just the worst story I have ever seen.

    This game lacks any creativity or real purpose. This 2020 game has the same combat system as the one that game out 7 years ago. That shouldn't even be possible. The story is absolutely abysmal, they pretty much disrespected their OWN characters. Would reccomend you skip on this one.

Why is this game bad?Because the autor hate this characters. In beginnigs of this game Joel will be killed by rat Abby when he save her from zombie...and Ally wants revenge. The first half of the game is a nice beautiful adventure of Ally and Dina. The gameplay is almost no different from the first part, new puzzles with a rope and glasses !! Wow is that all you came up with? the stealth curve is boring and not interesting and does not look like the E32019 gameplay.But then it gets worse and worse the gameplay for a new character degrades. They make us love Abby and forgive her, try to show that she is a good person in different aspects. I feel like the author says: "Love her !! and hate Ally".Hitler also created pictures and was an artist. Главного персонажа, которого любят все игроки, убивают сразу же в первые часы игры. И это объясняется тем, что Джоел убил отца Эбби, ЧТОБЫ СПАСТИ ЭЛЛИ. А теперь вопрос: почему мне, как игроку, должно быть не плевать на Эбби и ее папашу?
    Как я могу сопереживать персонажам, которых я вообще не знаю?
    Джоел это главный герой прошлой игры. Мы играли за него, знали его историю и мотивацию. Да если бы он хоть 10 отцов убил, все равно ни один игрок бы не поменял свое мнение о нем.
    Персонажи ведут себя как полные идиоты. Томми то говорит "НЕЛЬЗЯ МСТИТЬ ЭТО ОПАСНО", через несколько часов: "ТЫ МНЕ ОБЕЩАЛА ОТОМСТИТЬ ИДИ МСТИ"
    Джоел никому не доверял в первой игре, с какого черта он просто так говорит свое имя и где они живут НЕЗНАКОМЦАМ?
    Про концовку я вообще молчу. Всю игру Элли убивала сотни людей, чтобы добраться до Эбби. И в итоге она ее просто освобождает И В ИТОГЕ ОТПУСКАЕТ. Просто прекрасно!

    Story is trash. If you liked the tlou1 for the great characters, this is not the game for you. All the characters returning and new, are unlikeable, vapid, and unsympathetic no matter how the dev's wanted them to be.

    The game play is uninspired and repetitive. The narrative drags on and on, and seems to have a bizarre fetish for torture and needless violence. This compounds with the jarring ludonarrative dissonance of Ellie choosing to spare abby in the end despite having no problem with the massive body count the average player will inevitably rack up in a playthrough. Overall save your money, wait for a sale, or watch a stream of the story if you for whatever reason just have to experience this illconcieved sequel.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Only giving this a 1 because of the obvious improvements in gameplay, so I will reward the people who worked on that. But the story writers for this game deserved to be fired. The Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all time, and somehow, someway they managed to take everything that was so great and magical about the first game and absolutely trash and tarnish it. Anybody that enjoyed the characters of the first game are going to be extremely disappointed by this. Joel and Ellie deserved a much better story then what they got in this, and as far as the character switching goes, Metal Gear Solid 2 did a much better job of that, so leave that to people who can actually write a decent story.

    I really hope the developers see that people are angry with this story and take notes on how to do better next time, because this is by far the most disappointed I have ever been with a video game in my 27 years of living, and I’m extremely easy to please, so that is saying something. What good does great graphics and music do when there's no motivation for the player to engage with the characters motivations? Also the game-play isn't even above average, considering the time it took to make.     The graphics are pretty much the same as the first but the world is more open, it does suffer from lack of detail in most areas (especially the spore areas) and it struggles to stay 30 fps.     But the biggest issue is how bad the story is, they went from great story telling in the first game, to this shock value, agenda pushing garbage. All the character building is gone and its just action, explore, kill 50 people, add some bad story telling and repeat.

They made it seem like Joel would be along for the ride with Ellie, but instead they kill him off in the first portion of the game.

    The graphics are nice and the game play is what you would expect from ND, but the writing is cringe and elementary. This is self indulgent drivel and they have essentially ruined the original game by retconning it to death.

    I just hope my liver can handle the amount of alcohol it will take to kill enough brain cells to forget the Last of Us II was ever created.    … Expand

    How did it end up like this? I didn't think it was possible to go from 100 to 0 so quickly, but Naughty Dog did it. A complete 180 in storytelling and direction. Both games shall be remembered: The Last of Us as a testament to storytelling and setting, and The Last of Us Part II, how to butcher a legacy in record time.

    This feels like a fever dream. How can this be real?

Sure, the game LOOKS nice, but that's literally it. There's barely any new mutated enemies, combat is literally the same, and the story I think is going to go down as probably the worst of this console era. For **** sake even Fallout 76 makes this game look good. At least you knew what you were getting into with 76. A mediocre online FO experience. We LITERALLY were baited and switched with The Last Of Us 2. We thought we were getting to see more of the characters we've grown to love, only to have Neil Druckmann's weird arrogant fever dream shoved in our faces.

    Vote with your wallets, guys. If you're on the fence, watch a stream of the game and thank us later. We all wanted to love this game, and it sucks this is the way it is, but don't give this company any more of your money. It just isn't worth it, and they aren't worth it. ND has proven they DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR FANS OF THEIR GAMES.

    Pros:
    -Graphics are actually insane
    -Voice actors are great

    Cons:
    -Combat gets stale, since it's just TLOU1 reskinned
    -Story is the worst I've ever seen coming off of TLOU1
    -I hate the word agenda, but it really feels like there's an agenda push here. And it's not a good one.
    -Characters PHYSICALLY and MENTALLY and EMOTIONALLY make absolutely no sense. Ellie and Joel, and every other character make the weirdest decisions for the plot that we all know for a second they wouldn't make. It's all for Neil's weird plot devices.
    -Even though the game is short, it feels like it DRAGS for 40% of it. People who played the game know what parts I'm talking about.
    -it's impossible to get attached to ANY of the new characters. They're awkwardly written, and just feel stiff and weird.

    This game just isn't The Last of Us anymore. And if that's what the devs want, that's fine. But the fanbase didn't want this, and it's the fanbase that buys your game. Without them, you really don't have anything. It's such a tragedy this game was destroyed by one man and one woman's weird hatred toward gamers. Hopefully other studios see this **** and don't kill their franchises like ND did to TLOU.

The fan was going crazy from where it hadn’t been turned on in months, so I spent 40min taking it apart and dusting it with canned air and cloths so I can enjoy the game fully. I can honestly say that the constant sneezing from my dust allergy caused by cleaning out my PS4 was a more compelling and fulfilling narrative than the garbage story of this game. Not only a bad standalone product, but soured my view on the entire series.… Expand

    Upon playing the game all previous plot and character development has been thrown out the window. Disappointed in the direction ND has taken with their IP and especially how they treated their core characters and their relationships in this instalment.

    I have finished the game to give it a fair go but to be honest I won’t be replaying it or recommending it. The only saving grace that didn’t give a score of 0 is the graphics and combat mechanics are great.

    If you want to brutally murder your memory of TLOU1 get this game otherwise save yourself the $60    … Expand

    The game goes for Shock Value instead of proper story telling and ends up falling flat the game creators obviously didn't cate that they were alienating fans of the original game and choose to go for pure shock the choises made by the games protagonist are often questionable changing motivation on a whim other than beautiful graphics the game has little to offer.

Story and characters were the one thing that made TLOU special - it wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the gameplay, it was masterful story telling and character development.

    The main reason for TLOU's    Visually stunning, fantastic music, voice acting is on point, gameplay mechanics are improved from the previous game and yet none of that matters because story is an absolute disgrace. Story and characters were the one thing that made TLOU special - it wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the gameplay, it was masterful story telling and character development.

    The main reason for TLOU's success was Joel & Ellie and their relationship - that's what made the game and everybody expected the continuation of that relationship. Instead we got our "expectations subverted" (phrase used by hack writers who are incapable of writing solid story without gimmicks and added shock value). By and far the best part of this game's story was the flashbacks with Joel - if only that was the actual story and not just flashbacks that didn't even matter anymore after Joel went golfing.

    There are so many ways that Joel & Ellie's story could have continued and instead we got this disjointed mess that almost felt like writers purposefully tried to destroy everything fans of TLOU loved. In my eyes this game is not a canon, it didn't happen. Naughty Dog should be ashamed of themselves. And all those 10/10 critics should also be ashamed.    … Expand

However, I was left pissed off by the direction of the story, the agenda-pushing and SJW BS Neil Druckmann thought was the right thing to do. Everything felt just so unnecessary, ultra-violence portrayed felt unneeded and overdramatic. Major characters lack depth and development throughout and at best they often act out of character and at worst they are shallow and boring.

    The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game with very minor tweaks and the only redeeming qualities have been ruined by Neil Druckman and the involvement of Anita Sarkeesian. TLOU2 do not deserve your money. Naughty Dog do not deserve your money.

    The story of Ellie and Joel already concluded in the first game so why don't you buy Ghost of Tsushima instead?    … Expand

    1st fked up part: 2 fking hrs into the game and the most beloved character from the first game got killed disrespectfully
    2nd fked up part: play as the mother fker who've just butchered Joel
    3rd fked up part: in the end, somehow Ellie spared the life of that fker after a few flashback of Joel and ended up losing 2 fingers

The way the Joel character is treated, the way you supposed to empathize with his killer. It's not working. The "you killed my father excuse", come on. In 7 years they couldn't came up with something better that a NPC killed? And the ending is easily the worst part. You kill hundreds of people to get to Joel's killer and then you do nothing because "revenge is bad". Unbelievable. Way to go NaughtyDog you went from absolute masterpieces like the Uncharted series and TLOU to this awful game. I guess i could not expect nothing else from Neil Druckmann, after his statements. Doesn't matter if they ruin the charactes of the first game, and with them the expctations of the players. It doesn't matter because now they have new stunnig and brave (so brave they kill an unarmed man with a golf stick, then spit on him) characters and political corectness is safe. And all the critics' positive reviews just prove what the world of media is become. You put these themes in your story and they will (and have to) love it. The bond between Joel and Ellie, the evil and good spectrum so thin, the story so simple yet so powerfull, the calm of some moments, the frenzy of others, Joel so strong and so broken, Ellie so young and scared and courageous. Nothing of that, nothing, is present in this sequel. This is just putting the almost same (very good indeed) gameplay, new unlikeble characters that you will hate and some gore and ultraviolent scene to shock you. No NaughtyDog, I'm not shock by these scenes, I am shock for the poor writing of these. Thanks to SJW. This is just so SAD.… Expand

I heard about the leaks before playing so I was curious to see what was true and I was deeply upset to see that most of them was true. 30 mins in and we get a weed smoking scene. Are you serious? By this point I already dont care about ellie or her friends. Shortly after Everyone's favorite, Joel is killed, and in such a disrespectful way, to see him treated like that was not a good start to the game, then I get an eyeful of..gay? sex, my how progressive we have become. It looks just so awful with these rendered models that the 30 second it was on screen was enough to hurt my eyes. So now we control Joel's killer in some attempt to sympathize with.. her. This is where I want to stop playing, such an unlikable character already but okay let's see this through. A bunch more characters dies that no one cares about. We have to kill several dogs, in a sad attempt to tug on the heartstrings. In the final moments of the game ellie decides to save Joel's killer, then ellie then changes her mind another 2 times and decides that killing is bad, after killing a hundred people to get to her, just get your **** revenge jesus. Abby eats ellie's fingers, she cant play guitar so sad the end. Joel is basically in the game just so they can kill him and defile his corpse. Definitely wont buy another naughty dog game. Graphics are good, games is same as previous game, except you can jump now. This game is a failure and doesn't deserve the high scores it received.… Expand

    I feel like I was betrayed and stabbed in the back. I cringed in the start, I am half way through the game and still cringing. Each step feels like the knife is being twisted and dugs deep in my heart. The environmental looks good but the pain does not stop. I feel nauseous.

I spent so long anticipating this game, avoiding social media for spoilers just to play it, and I'm in shock right now. Not the good kind, not the kind they tried to instill in this ham-fisted disgrace of plot development. I'm angry I spent money on this. I love shock value in video games but this just feels like I paid someone to take a crap on me. Everything feels forced.     I regarded Ellie as one of the best (if not the best) video game characters to ever be conceived after the TLOU.
    I even got a poster of TLOU -- that's how much the game meant to me. It is now evident that agenda supersedes story. I'm drained after 4 hours. I don't want to continue. As many have said, a sequel was never a good idea.

This Part 2 **** all over anything good that was created in Part 1, if you liked TLoU 1 then stay the hell away and save your money.

    The first game was great. It really saddens me how they betrayed the memories of the fantastic characters that they established from the first game. The story makes no sense at all and in the end you feel as if the whole game is pointless. The graphics look great, but this is the type of game where the story is really important and unfortunately it is a real disappointment.

Had I known I would be playing as Abbie I would have not gotten it. I don't care about her side of the story. The more I played this the more I hated it. I will say the gameplay is fine but the story just pulls me out of it. Forcing me to play as Joel's murderer? Really? Who thought that would be fun or good or worth buying? And even at the end I still felt nothing for Abbie. Her side sucks. Only reason this game kinda playable is the graphics and gameplay. It was all for nothing.… Expand

    You will be shocked by the uncharacteristic decisions made by Ellie and Joel. You will be introduced to many good guys only for them to die without even a whimper. There is a sex scene that is the most distasteful thing I’ve seen in gaming in many years. You will play as the character that kills and tortures Joel. As Ellie you will kill many to reach said person only for Ellie to decide not to get revenge with no explanation given leaving a bad taste in your mouth. The game mechanics are fine but the story and all the senseless **** that happens will sour the whole experience. Very little replay ability. Naughty Dog should fire Neil Druckmann for wasting all our time. Many people waited for years with high expectations, but in fact after I played this one I realized all I wanted was to spend more time with Joel and Ellie, growing up and fighting the infected together. The ending of part 2 makes everything you did and loved about the first meaningless and a waste of time. There is no hope, no love, and no compassion. Joel saves Ellie only to be hated by her for it and dies a horrible death. It also must be said that Naughty Dog used a lot of bait and switch with their trailers, you are wrong to believe Joel is in this for any meaningful amount of time.     The graphics on this game where truly beautiful and the fighting style did have minor improvements but in this story oriented game, it lacked every single aspect. If I had to sum up the story without spoiling anything, all I would say is that this story is just one huge dumpster fire and that I would not recommend this 60$ game to anyone, this for me was a waste of my money and a waste of my time.

And they present it as an impressive scenario.     "Saw 3D" of video games. Laughable story with no moral, abundance of violence and one distasteful sex scene. This game has absolutely nothing to say. The writer may think it does, but what it tries to do, other games had already done better and with more finesse. Then again, being more subtle than a sledgehammer is not exactly difficult.

    All in all the game itself is not bad, the acting, the graphics, game engine, the beautiful views, it's all there but the story is so unbelievably awful, all these incredibly terrible decisions. I can't believe that this is what we get as a sequel to such a masterpiece.

    GRAND DISAPPOINTMENT.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
