    As someone who values story over visuals and gameplay I was aphauled at the level of polish of the story vs the polish of everything else. The 2 points are only because I value the efforts of the devs and the detail they put into the game. The story is shocking for the sake of being shocking. Shame its not just a sequal, it's not the same characters so it's a solo game of pety revenge for me.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game is beautiful, probably the best looking game on stock PS4. The animation are sometimes a little off and there are a few bugs here and there but overall, it's way ahead of most of the games on this subject.

    Music are almost non existent which is a shame since the first game had some nice ones.

    Gameplay isn't bad but it's very simple, just an updated copy of the gameplay from the first game which was OK in 2013 but already not memorable. The reason people still liked the first game is that the gameplay wasn't that important, what was important in TLOU was the writing, the story, the characters. And this is where it gets ugly.

    One character aside, the cast is dull. You couldn't even describe the characters otherwise than by saying "it's that guy wearing a hat" or "it's that Asian looking guy". The characters aren't badly written, they're not written at all. Oh, my bad, Ellie is written : they gave her tons of hobbies to fill the void in the writing but it simply doesn't work. You can't be a good guitar player, song writer, astronomy expert, comics nerd, good drawing artist, hand to hand combat expert, pro sniper and bow shooter all at the same time. It's ridiculous and it doesn't make her more real, that's just pure failed writing. Also, the way she talks with Dina make them sound like they actually lived in the "old world" which is even more shocking since the fact she was so clueless on the subject in the first game was so evident in he conversation with Joel.

    All the good ideas from the first game in terms of rhythm and storytelling, like the short and almost entirely playable introduction are gone. Now you have to endure long and useless scenes where you can only walk ALL THE TIME and the game takes forever to really start. Most important events are badly timed, they happen too soon or too late so they have almost no impact on what you feel. The game completely lacks that feeling from the first one where you feel like you're there, in the game, living the same adventure the characters do. Instead of that, it's like you're watching people you don't care about act from far away. Plus some scenes are so bad, so outdated, they feel like a Seinfeld episode in term of directing.

    And what about that stupid idea of forcing you to play with the antagonist for HALF THE GAME. Yes, everyone understood why, it's so obvious you can't misunderstand it, that's not the issue, the issue is that it's a stupid idea. That's not what the players were told, they were all thinking that this game would be TLOU but with Ellie as a main character which is not the case. They lied to the players, pure and simple. On top of that, you can also add that the game is long for absolutely no reason (the story is so simple and the gameplay so limited, you want the game to end after like 10 hours) which makes this part of the game even more boring.

    Let's not forget "the message" the game is trying to push on you. It's so obvious, so awkward, so contradicting, cringe and illogical, it simply doesn't make any sense, the writer obviously wanted to do something deep but failed to grasp the gist of it resulting in a really stupid conclusion.

    The Last of Us is one of my favorite game ever. When the second one was announced, I tried very hard not to get my hopes up because I knew making a sequel at least as good as the first one would be difficult. I avoided all spoilers and drama but even with all these precaution, I've never been so disappointed by a game. This is a unexplainable and unforgivable waste.

    I gave it 1 because I acknowledge all the hard work the 3D artists, devs and such put in the game but I can't give it more because TLOU2 is abysmal compared to the first one.    … Expand

    Good graphics and the gameplay mechanics work well, but hardly an improvement over the original. The story is terrible and seeing as I have no options to change it in any way the whole experience was an unpleasant one. Such a massive let down after all these years of waiting.

From start to finish you can see thaylt no love or fan service went into this game and sadly they failed in trying to copy some of Rockstar's writing with a main character death. Abby was just annoying and the way they killed joel just made the game somehow empty. It was the dynamic duo of ellie and joel what made me the firdt game love. Not seeing this as game of the year.     Now this game certainly has something going for it. The graphics. They're really really pretty. That's where the games very deservedly earns it's one point. The rest however, earned none.     If you couldn't tell, the second biggest commendation I can give this game is that it has an absolutely astonishing ability to make me hate a character. Not because of how she looks, or what sex she is. I don't care how many dogs the game makes you pet in it's weak attempts to make you like her.

    It shows a lot about how pathetic I am I guess, but it's been five days, and my day is still ruined. Maybe it's because they outright said that fans of the first game might hate this one? Who knows.

    This game is very pretty, but it's sort of like putting a cute snapchat filter on your arm that was just torn off. It certainly looks nicer than it would without it, but gosh darnit this is certainly a pile of trash. A painful pile of trash.

    They destroyed the first game in an attempt to tell a blatantly obvious message of 'revenge bad' (unless you're Abby, then revenge is perfectly fine). They tried to be artistic, and in the process managed to throw the love and adoration the fans of the first game had for Joel and Ellie in the trash. And then burn the trash. And then spit on the charred trash.

    And finally, once they finished spitting on the charred pile of trash that is Ellie and Joel, they walked away with hundreds of awards for being the best at spitting on burnt trash. Then they took all the money and awards the garbage bin gave them(while it is a very pretty garbage bin, with lots of flowers and high resolution) and used it to buy a pretty crown. Now that the game is finally out, they at last get to put the trash crown on their heads, that the art designers earned for them. But hey, what worth does a stupid fan have when you can get a cool crown, some pretty '100's' and a truck full of money?    … Expand

    The original was a masterpiece. This game is not. I did not buy the game, i watched a stream because i was unsure if i would like it. It feels to me like they sacrificed the original game and its character development to make it fit to "the larger isuess of our time". I did not care for it. It also has alot of plotholes...

The gameplay provides a very similar experience to the first, but I found myself losing interest after the first few hours. I persisted all the way through, and all I can say is I will never do it again.

    Despite some graphical improvements, high fidelity voice acting and facial capture, I can't give this game a higher rating than 1/10 - because I simply did not enjoy the process. Triple A titles don't get high ratings just for having hollywood budgets.

    It is alarming to me that the entire professional review industry is compromised. I will never read another professional game review.

    The character arc, development and story are so bad, it ruined the entire experience for me.

    The way Joel dies is an insult to the character and makes no sense (why would he trust some strangers?)

While the gameplay was just alright, the story was a master peace. I loved Elli and Joel, their character the bond and everything and I waited so long to experience MORE OF ELLIE AND JOEL. Instead this game just tosses that **** out the **** window and forces you to like the **** Abby, which I ****g don't. If they wanted us to like Abby the story could have been written so much better instead is this shock value bull****. It also felt like the game wanted us to hate Ellie and Joel, the charactes that I loved and wanted more of, but instead like Abby. The ending was just very unsatisfing. And in my opinion ****g bull****. I think I really hate this game because I played the last game which I wanted more of. But I would get why some people think this game is pretty good.     But problem with LoU2 don't end here. Games are not camping stories. There is no masterpiece movie that have bad camera work, bad acting and dialogues but great story so is 10/10. No all part should work together. In LoU2 gameplay is almost unchanged and nothing to sing about. Unless you consider ability to crawl a genius idea or companions becoming invisible to enemies when you sneaking, so developers don't have to create actual AI a great innovation, then do you even played action games in last decade? Gameplay is average.

    Graphics? It's decent.

    But since gameplay is the same other games of genre have it totally disagrees with what story want us. The "violence is bad, and we should forgive" that Lou2 story supposedly wants to show us is contradicted by it's own gameplay were we doing some garden cleaning. The gameplay that decides to give us several options to kill enemies so we don't get bored with killing them the same way. And there is random cutscene, when we get sad and contemplating. But after that it's return of gameplay. That's why if we consider that story-telling is the leading and most important part of LoU2 then gameplay is bad. Because it not only not support it, but activity negate it.

    If there is something of lesson that LoU2 gives, is that show of how illiterate professional reviewers become, and how hard they try to please they friends from industry that from critics they become part of game their marketing. Because if you developer of big game and want to spread some leeks and keeping hype up who you would go to give exclusive interview? Some additional info that no other have? And it's no brainier that for game magazine the exclusive info that others won't have is the most important. Reviews? Everybody would have them.    … Expand

    So what's the bottom line? Terrible plot submission, parasitic mechanics, a huge deception in advertising from the expectations and the resulting reality.

    Oh, yeah, well, the graphics are beautiful... No, it's worse than the trailers before.
