    This game is a true brilliant masterpiece. A great story of vengeance and unstoppable circle of violence. Characters are cool and it is quite easy to empathize with them and even to believe that all of them are real people.

    Words can't express how much of a downgrade this game is compared to TLOU 1 story wise. It's also sad that not a single big journalist can be trusted, because they're all pushing the same exact narrative that "gamers hate women, and gamers are anti whatever don't listen to them!" It's actually disgusting. NOTHING about this game is a 10/10. Absolutely nothing. The perfect scores here, are just trying to subvert the ocean of negatives. Sure, the game LOOKS nice, but that's literally it. There's barely any new mutated enemies, combat is literally the same, and the story I think is going to go down as probably the worst of this console era. For **** sake even Fallout 76 makes this game look good. At least you knew what you were getting into with 76. A mediocre online FO experience. We LITERALLY were baited and switched with The Last Of Us 2. We thought we were getting to see more of the characters we've grown to love, only to have Neil Druckmann's weird arrogant fever dream shoved in our faces.

    Vote with your wallets, guys. If you're on the fence, watch a stream of the game and thank us later. We all wanted to love this game, and it sucks this is the way it is, but don't give this company any more of your money. It just isn't worth it, and they aren't worth it. ND has proven they DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR FANS OF THEIR GAMES.

    Pros:
    -Graphics are actually insane
    -Voice actors are great

    Cons:
    -Combat gets stale, since it's just TLOU1 reskinned
    -Story is the worst I've ever seen coming off of TLOU1
    -I hate the word agenda, but it really feels like there's an agenda push here. And it's not a good one.
    -Characters PHYSICALLY and MENTALLY and EMOTIONALLY make absolutely no sense. Ellie and Joel, and every other character make the weirdest decisions for the plot that we all know for a second they wouldn't make. It's all for Neil's weird plot devices.
    -Even though the game is short, it feels like it DRAGS for 40% of it. People who played the game know what parts I'm talking about.
    -it's impossible to get attached to ANY of the new characters. They're awkwardly written, and just feel stiff and weird.

    This game just isn't The Last of Us anymore. And if that's what the devs want, that's fine. But the fanbase didn't want this, and it's the fanbase that buys your game. Without them, you really don't have anything. It's such a tragedy this game was destroyed by one man and one woman's weird hatred toward gamers. Hopefully other studios see this **** and don't kill their franchises like ND did to TLOU.

    The game is great, but not a masterpiece. Do not read reviews at all, everyone raised a revolt without passing, and most likely without buying the game. Filled up with bad ratings, not knowing the whole story, for those who still pass the game, or passed, the game will like it. I am sure in the future the game's rating will increase to at least 7, but how long it will take is unknown.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge TLOU fan, after all this time, after a masterpiece, what is left is bitterness, sadness and disappointment.

    Just to be clear the graphics and sound are amazing, the gameplay is good too, even so that its not that different from TLOU 1 (crafting, etc are basically the same).

    But what really made me love TLOU was the story, the character development you see between joel and ellie, basically becoming father and daughter, how they start from strangers to become really attached and depending on each other, to the point that they would do anything for each other.

    But its enough of talking about a masterpiece, so lets talk about TLOU part 2.
    They tremendously failing on making/delivering a product that people actually wanted, and man... what a mess.

    Ill try to be short:

    So, we got to know a girl named Dina that I really don't have any interest in, she kissed ellie and she was dating Jesse but broke up a week before, and they loved each other so much that it seems they don't care about it anymore??? huuum okay, then they give us like a sex scene too between ellie and dina, and Jesse finds them and its all ok for him, like "I didn't even love her before".

    Now, one of the most **** up thing in the story, our beloved joel that is really smart seems dumb now... so image if you kill hundreds of guys, you basically destroy the fireflies, you save an unknown person that is near your city(kinda weird) and she leads you to her friends, all armed in a room... would you tell your real name to them?? well, guess what, our now dummy Joel did! guess what happens? gets killed!.

    To be honest, I was expecting Joel death in this game, but not like this, for what sake? the sake of shock? well, I have to give them credit at that, i was shocked.
    But if you have the balls to do this, basically a cruel/idiotic plot death you have to make it up right?
    well the return is a slap in your face.

    The death of Joel could be, and deserved to be better than this.

    After that Ellie goes on a rampage to get revenge on abby that killed Joel, she kills and kills and kills... then we get some playable flashbacks with joel and ellie, they were nice but not that good IMO.

    Eventually you will know that abby had something with Owen, but now owen is with Mel, and Mel is pregnant, and later you see again abby doing sex with owen, and oh did I tell that Dina is also pregnant? Yeah! such a mess! wtf??? is this really TLOU??

    Ok, so in the end you will have a background on Abby, and you will play a lot with her actually, so you can see that she is a good girl, good intentions, so you don't hate her for killing joel...

    As I said, if Joel had a different death, and we knew a little more about Abby before, maybe, just maybe I would have some interest on that character. So they make you play with Abby, where she will find too a kid to protect like Joel, so simplistic and repetitive.
    I really didn't like to play as Abby, I wish I had a skip option so I could skip to the ending, felt so pushy... Oh btw, how is she still alive with all the noise the makes walking??? jeez... oh, btw, amazing how ellie too doesn't care with the noise, she finds a guitar and starts playing like.... maybe there are clickers here?

    So basically they put some non interesting characters as Abby, Dina, Jesse.... I couldn't care less About those Characters, at least not like this.

    And well, after all this revenge story purpose, the pregnant girls, the sex, at the end Ellie lets Abby go. Yep, after all this messy story, after all the purpose is to get some revenge on Abby that killed Joel what you get is a slap in your face telling you that revenge is bad!

    I understand the meaning, the circle or revenge wont end, revenge is bad, blablabla...
    But its really unsatisfying, They really force you trying to like Abby, but with no success.
    TLOU is an apocalyptic game, full of death, kill or get killed... doesn't really fit in the game... not that I don't understand the meaning or that Im a bad person, but felt really bad, unsatisfying story, unsatisfying ending.
    poor Jesse that died in the end as nothing, irrelevant character right?

    Imagine playing god of war and in the end kratos lets go zeus. yap. the same.

    Well, as an fan of TLOU i feel really bad, I would like to rate it better, but I cant with this poor story.
    I would recommend you to get the game only when its like 30$.

    TL;DR: good graphics, good sound and gameplay, poor writing, poor characters, what leads to a bad story(that's where this game should shine). messy romantic/sex scenes, Forces you to like a character that you probably wont like. Get it when its on sale.

    Just perfect! I love the game play, the different backgrounds, the story and the characters. I felt a lot of emotions and sometimes fear. The part when you climb and go upstairs in different apartments with big holes, was so fun!

    Ellie, the MC is on a quest for revenge after Joel gets killed by Abby, proceeds to kill dozens of people in her quest, and then ends up NOT KILLING THE ONE PERSON THAT SHE WANTED REVENGE ON and gets mutilated for life for her trouble and ends up alone and sulking. Nothing is resolved. Everyone ends up sad and alone. The END.

    It's like the makers of this game hates you and the world and want you to end up hating the world as much as they do and want to destroy every shred of legacy the first game had and every shred of fun you'd have. I'd give this game a negative score if I could.    … Expand

    It was inevitable that Joel had to die at one point, but this was just so poorly handled. The story was boring and you’re forced to play as a character you hate and have no interest in (and how was it so buff in a world where starvation and lack of resources are problems). And the story had the most unsatisfying ending ever. Sin duda una obra maestra dueña a quien le duela, este juego sobrepasa todas las expectativas, tiene mecánicas de juego que te ayudan más a la hora de jugar, sin hablar de sus gráficos que son lo mejor que se ha visto últimamente, vamos a hablar de la historia, la historia se basa en la busca de venganza por parte de Ellier hacia Abby, ya que esta última mato a joel a sangre fría, joel termina siendo el villano del juego luego de que traicionará a mucha gente cantando y asesinando, estos últimos fueron los Lobos que no se sabe porque fue que joel los traicionó, pero los lobos eran unos ponches puercos que buscaban y mataban gente inocente para comer ellos.
    Para mi la única desventaja es que no se pudiera usa tanto a joel, para despedirnos mejor de este personaje que nos acompaña en nuestra aventura en TLOU Parte 1.

    The graphic is great. The gameplay is smooth. The mechanism is fantastic. The sound is excellent. The environment is overwhelming. But the story is completely rubbish. The story is fxxked up. They only need to do one thing to make this game perfect. They only need to let us choose the ending, let the player choose how to end.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I personally liked the story and I was surprised the amount of backlash it received. I was surprised that there are a lot of people who wish Ellie finish Abby off in the last fight.

    After playing Abby for quite a while and saw the struggles she faced, I was very sad when they both fight at the beach. Killing each other in order to get revenge would bring us nothing other than self satisfaction. If Abby didn't spare Ellie's life in the theater, most likely she will be dead hanged at the beach. But she did and from my perspective, Ellie came and "saved" her from death. It's a reward for Abby for doing so.Ellie spared Abby's life as well. Which might be in her favour who knows when. I really hope we can see TLOU3 with Abby+Ellie combo but seeing the backlash ot received, it'll be foolish for naughty dog to continue the development for this game.

    It's the end of the world where humans should come together to find a solution to overcome the infected issue but they didn't. This game showed human behaviour at its best.    … Expand

    People complaining about Naughty Dog making us play with a hated character, I get that, I wanted to end that part as soon as possible, but they wanted to show the 2 sides of the story.
    Ok her part was a little too long, but I enjoyed the game as much as I enjoyed the first one.

    Let me preface this with the fact I have never written a game review before, but I feel like with all the extremes of opinions people are taking with this game it deserved as many legitimate opinions as possible.

    Graphics and engine - 5/5
    The visual aspect of this game is a triumph. It really is beautiful to look at. The environments built in this game take the core feel of the original and improve on it in every way. I don’t think the PS4 is capable of producing anything that sustains this level of detail and beauty through gameplay and the “cutscenes”. I say “Cutscenes” because more akin to God of War these feel like an extension of the gameplay rather than the originals hard cuts to animated filmThe way objects interact is also a feat, with ropes of particular note.

    TLDR: The game is beautiful, and probably the most beautiful the PS4 is capable of.

    Gameplay - 4.5/5
    The gameplay is the same as the first game with a few fleshed out aspects. There are more stealth options than there was, and they allow for a bit more variety on how to deal with situations. The gunplay is solid, an iterative improvement over the original game, but enough polish to make it fresh-ish. Most aspects of gameplay were used sparingly so didn’t get repetitive. I did feel like the gunplay sections were a little on the long side and over the course of my 25-hour playthrough it did get repetitive. Personally, id have like them a little shorter between cutscene sections and set pieces, but I’m sure some people would them complain it was just an interactive movie. Can’t win!

    TLDR: Much the same as game one, with added polish and mechanics. Sometimes repetitive due to game runtime.

    Story - 4.5/5
    Ah, the story. The big divide. The controversy, the hatred.

    Me? I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, there are a couple of places I rolled my eyes, and things that happen that I wish didn’t, but life isn’t roses. The events cause me to have a profound emotional response, and to me, that’s the sign of a quality story, even if it wasn’t quite how I wished it would play out. The leaks were thorough, and accurate, but in so many 1 star reviews I don’t see any mention of the story aspects which aren’t mentioned in the leaks, which in my mind are some of the key parts that gel the story together. I get peoples frustration, and if you’ve actually played and still don’t like it then fair play absolutely. I get it, but so many people might see these negative reviews and not even give the game a chance, and that’s a shame. I think the direction they took for the second half of the game (where a lot of the hatred applies) was excellently pulled off. The game makes you more aware of the repercussions of actions and while its very blunt and on the nose, I think this is a good anecdote for real life. Whether that’s what you want in your video game or not is purely personal preference.

    TLDR: Some people hate it, I loved it. Its emotional, it’s a rollercoaster, and its (in my opinion) very well written even if its not what everybody wanted.

    Conclusion
    I think the bombardment of 1 star reviews is unfair. It’s not for everyone and people are upset, but this game is a work of art. I hope that in time, when the world is a little less broken, and people are a little less toxic, more people will actually give this game a go and experience the story as it was designed to be experienced, not from some leaks.

    I personally loved the game. If you’re on the fence, give it a go, or wait till the inevitable price drops then have a go. It has its flaws, and it’s a very love it or hate it story it seems, so find out for yourself.

    Finally, if you are one of the people who hate it, refuse to play it, and reply to every tweet from Neil Druckmann or anyone else involved with the game or any tweet mentioning the game with absolute toxic hate. Go do the world a favour and grow up. You might be old enough to play the game physically, but I’m damn sure you’re not old enough mentally.    … Expand

    The story of part 1 is so epic. It has become my favorite game of all time. I played it so many times on different difficulties. And I couldnt wait for the moment to play part 2.
    And now I cant even tell how disappointed I am. The story of part 2 is so horrible. Abby is a horrible char. Naughty Dog you destroyed your own legend!!

    It's a great game. I love the intro and loved the ending. The exploration is really good as well. I dont understand all the hate to this game it's a great game with an even better story dont like the haters deter you from this game.

    Considero que la primera parte es uno de los mejores videojuegos de la historia. Tal vez el mejor. Por eso, el hecho de que se elimine directamente a su protagonista principal, en pos de un secundario que reune todas las caracteristicas de lo "politicamente correcto" hace que todo esto APESTE.

    Easily the most disappointing game I’ve ever played. While the game performs great and the graphics are absolutely beautiful, there’s no getting over the fact that your forced to play as the most hated video game character for 10 hours. Games are supposed to be fun, I guess ND didn’t get the memo.

It was nice to see a continuation to the story from 2013. gameplay is great and there are tons of area to explore, but on the other hand some scenes in the game are just literally recycled from the first game.. another level in which you have to avoid a sniper from a roof? really?? another mission in which you play cat and mouse??? really?????
    I also didn't like the ending.. I understand that ellie post everything trying to get revenge on Joel's death. I have no complaints to the writers about that. but if she already has lost it all, just kill abby and finish the job that doesnt make sense.. overall the game was great and I really enjoyed, the story is good but FAR from the level of the first game    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A 7 year in the making fan fiction based off the first game. The characters keep no traits from the previous game. Joel's death is an insult to the character established previously, likewise for Tommy.

    At the end of the game it kept me contemplating on what i actually achieved, what new story got unraveled, and whether i actually care for more. As far as I'm concerned Ellie and Joel's story ended in the first game.

    Playing as Joel's killer is also cringy. Ellie knows killing is wrong and expresses disgust in her actions when killing human beings, often on the verge of vomiting. Abby is just evil, has no remorse for her actions, no humanity and no empathy.

    The whole issue of infected is not touched upon in the slightest. Infected are just trash mobs to slow down your pace while offering no significance to the plot. Ellies immunity also has no relevance except for the two times she uses it to her advantage.

    Credit where credit is due, the graphics, animation and gameplay is flawless although repetitive, but that's not a problem.
    + Abby's toolset is more enjoyable to play especially with her brute force. Punching infected to death was highly satisfying, although questionable with regards to safety.    … Expand

But it was justified IMO, He lies to Elli, **** over mankind, and kills a father who was just trying to do the right thing. He was being selfish, at the end of part one he kills the leader of the fire flies as well, and crossed a lot of people. On top of that Elli was okay with it as long if it could save others. People are forgetting Abby's group were almost ALL ex-firefly members. I give this an 8 because of two portions of the game if you don't follow the script it get screwed and the checkpoints are awful. And no (She isn't a tran) they also kinda show why she's big when you play as her. They live in a football stadium, they have weights, and they have a freaking big dinning area etc. Long story short don't let the negativity fool you, it's mainly Joel salt, when in reality Tommy killed him he gave his name etc. all out their… Expand

    I feel this game could have done so much better with a better pacing. I won't hate on it because you can see there was an effort talking about graphics, music and details. The script is where everything goes nuts and you see the relevant stuff happening way too fast and out of nowhere and some situations that should be short scenes go for way too long. I'm not against killing a character like Joel, but the execution of the whole scene fails because everything happens way too fast, out of nowhere and with no explanation with a character that we just got introduced to.     Ich hatte so viele emotionen in dem spiel ich wahr traurig aber auch Wütend, und ich hatte angst dass ellie stirbt.
    Das spiel war so geil dass ich es gestern schon durchgespielthane und jetzt spiele ich neues spiel+.
    Ich freue mich sehr auf den Online modus

My reason is quite simple, Ellie was a young teen in the first game. Here we experience her life after years of violence, lies and tragedies. Something someone shouldn't experience prolonged. That being said my final scoring:

    Naughty Dog nails it, it's a wonderful game. If the first was about losing and then finding yourself in love, this one is about finding and losing yourself in hate. A bittersweet story of a spiral of revenge that goes on and on, losing it's own motives on the way. Nothing is written in black and white, all characters are gray: clearly developers wanted us to feel like someone's antagonist,Naughty Dog nails it, it's a wonderful game. If the first was about losing and then finding yourself in love, this one is about finding and losing yourself in hate. A bittersweet story of a spiral of revenge that goes on and on, losing it's own motives on the way. Nothing is written in black and white, all characters are gray: clearly developers wanted us to feel like someone's antagonist, and that's the core. Enemies scream for their loved ones who you just murdered and we start to question if we're right. Beautifuly done in my opinion, that's the kind of story we keep thinking about later. In a world full of games we choose how the plot goes it's wonderful how in this one not having a choice is a narrative choice wich tells a lot about the characters.

    Later in game we play as another character that's not Ellie. Very courageous choice from Naughty Dog, and though I loved this character I think most of people who will dislike the game will come from here. The only downside of the game in my opinion it's that sometimes this part seems like a fetch quest: go here, go there. Everytime you go here or there something important does happen, but I think the wandering in this part could be a little shorter. And that's the only reason it's not a perfect ten for me, the rest is absolutely amazing.

    Beautiful graphics, amazing gameplay. Environments are stunning, from huge open areas to narrow and dangerous passages, from destroyed cities with collapsed builinds to small abandoned towns. Two new kinds of infected and a huge improvement in AI. Different groups of enemies behave different to you. In my first run it took me almost 23 hours to finish in the easiest difficult. For a linear game, that's a huge story arc.

    Most people who are giving bad reviews didn't even play the damn game. Most say something about the trans character and the muscular lady. They are different characters, so from here you can say a lot about what's happening.

    Don't be fooled by anyone, the game is awesome. Not a perfect ten for me, but something like a 9.8.    … Expand

Trying to avoid spoilers here but they illustrate a point very eloquently; that everyone has motivations & that you have never been playing as 'the good guys'. 'Good' doesn't really exist in this world anymore. They made every inch of the game beautiful & harrowing & the production quality is off the charts. Great voice acting, combat & sound design. It's clear that the gameplay isn't the reason for the low reviews... But the story is something you do have to go into with an open mind. It really really tries to show you that the situations you're in with Joel & Ellie, other characters go through the exact same **** The things you're angry about rn? That's the stuff they're angry about too.

    It's clear though that a lot of people won't be swayed by this. Just try to keep an open mind, let yourself have your understanding n perspectives be opened by the game as you play it, don't feel this emotionally attached to Joel & Ellie. Naturally bc it's a game n you play as them you feel like their actions are your actions & you don't want to believe that the things that you've done are wrong. But they are. & your enemies are actually better people than you are. That's the point of the game. The way it tells this is so clever & meta & most importantly, insanely evocative, hence all of the low scores. You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
