    I give it 1 for the visual quality but other than that this game made me feel sick inside and i dont see myself ever buying another Naughty Dog game which is a shame because for years they put great game after great game.     Graphically the game is pretty. Everything else specially the story is a major disappointment and if I could I’d refund my money. What a waste.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been waiting this game with great anticipation. I even bought the remastered version of The Last of Us 1 to replay it in anticipation of this sequel release.

    I do not know why the writers have deemed it necessary to kill the main character from the previous game like he was not relevant anymore. I do not understand why characters who were deep and interesting are now single-layered and cliché. The only explanation is that it is a game made to look like a sequel but but made by entirely different people with no talent.

    I am sorry for the team who worked on this game. They obviously worked a lot to make it AAA. But a story-driven game with a **** story is as much a failure as a Hollywood blockbuster with a bad story and gawd awful characters would be. That's that simple.

    This could be said it is a John Carter level failure, but I actually enjoyed John Carter. It is a John Carter 2 level failure, the sequel where john gets tortured and killed in a dix minutes long agony scene and his killer becomes the main protagonist for half the game. John's friends, seeking revenge, finally corner him and eventually offer him a beer and a hug.

    It’s not fair that Sony is threatening to pull review contracts with publishers like Gamespot, IGN, YouTube, and others if they don’t give the game an amazing review to offset the players reviews. Don’t believe me, look at all the “Offical Critic” reviews on this site. Giving. The game a perfect 100/100 score without talking or mentioning major parts of the game.

    I have not finished it yet but I am not really enjoying the story anymore as it is simply too far away from my personal reality which means: I simply can't relate and don't even want to. Providing a basis for a very questionable woke ideology seems more important than good story-telling. So: Was it really necessary? Holy **** . Thank you Naughtydog for this piece of garbage.

    It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes.

    This game is immensely bleak, with the bright hopeful spots of the first entry being altogether absent. With that being said, just about 10 hours of the game are wasted on fruitless plots, and the entire story (potentially of both games) is rendered meaningless by the dumbfonded ending. I could say more, but this game is a huge disappointment, and I regret waiting 7 years for it.

    I AM a incredible fan of the original game. I WAS looking forward to the continuation of the gripping and emotionally satisfying storyline. The plot was terrible. Characters were all over the place, and some VERY unlikeable. Very disappointed. Graphics were incredible, but if I wanted to look at beautiful snowscapes, I'd look outside at our Pocono Mountainside.

    Exhausting game play loop - imagine part 1 just the same encounter much more repetitive without a cut scene or shared moment. The story is also so torn apart that it prevents any meaningful emotional engagement - imagine a soccer match where you switch side every 15min. Part I is my second favorite game of all time so this is a shame...

    Pros - Graphically it looks decent enough.

    Cons - Everything else felt like a relentless golf club to the head for anyone who enjoyed the first game.

    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

    First, the 60 dollar price tag is not warranted at all- the game has no multiplayer, and although I understand this is a story driven game, TLOU's multiplayer was what made the first game replayable and added weight to the price point. Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.    This game is problematic on a number of levels:

    First, the 60 dollar price tag is not warranted at all- the game has no multiplayer, and although I understand this is a story driven game, TLOU's multiplayer was what made the first game replayable and added weight to the price point. Here, there is only a 25hr story which doesn't even permit a second playthrough because it is so bad.

    The story itself is hideous. Joel is the central character in the first game and the concept of bringing Ellie to the forefront this time around is interesting. But to have Joel die in the first couple hours of the game to a "villain" of sorts who isn't even portrayed as a villain per-say is irritating and disgraceful. There is no continued development between Joel and Ellie in the time he is alive, which is another point of notice- the characters, their relationships and developments are all poorly designed. Ellie is not the Ellie you knew, the new characters are bland and unsatisfactory, and their arcs are incredibly generic. This is all a consequence of piss-poor writing and it leads to a terrible thematic lesson that is driven into your face the entire game: "Revenge is bad". What is even worse is not that these sentiments are already known and have been expressed in other mediums long before, it's that this resolution is explicitly just that: that revenge is bad. There is no depth here, no greater meaning, nothing to attain. Moreso, this elementary lesson is not even grasped by Ellie until the very end of the game, just as she is about to kill Abby. Ellie has literally killed hundreds in this pursuit of "justice" yet coincidentally, God has enlightened her with moral righteousness right before she deals the killing blow to Abby. This doesn't make sense at all, yet neither does the countless other decisions made by characters in this game.

    This is not to say there aren't intriguing elements to the story. The issue is it all entirely backpedals from the first game. These so called "bold" decisions aren't bold, they're destructive. If I liked the first game for x, y, and z reasons, why on earth would you disregard those elements this time around? People want to play the sequel because of the first game. The thing that Naughty Dog and other storytellers who have made such a mistake (Rian Johnson for instance) fail to grasp is that the stories you are continuing already have a solid foundation that people like for these x, y, and z reasons. You can make "bold" decisions without destroying the legacy the previous installments laid out. Frankly, it can be said that TLOU2 would be very good game had it been a standalone title. The issue here is it is not, and thus there is something to uphold (being the first game). And it does not do that at all.

    I'll refrain from discussing other aspects of the game because even though the gameplay and mechanics aren't particularly great either, the primary issue of this game in my eyes is the story, and by far. And all this fault is put on Neil Druckmann. The fact that this is Druckmann's first game on his "own" without the support of Straley (and of course Henning, whom was the real factor of Naughty Dog's prior successes), it is clear the guy has no creative talent and storytelling genius. His co-director and the game's designers are evidently poor pieces as well. I foresee only downfall for what is left of this team.    … Expand

    I can’t explain myself why this story is so boring. You lost the Storytelling. I’d rather play one more time TLOU1 than this again... I guess I’ll be more cautious on naughty dog games in the future.

    how could you ruined one of the best game of the ps3 era! there's no point to kill joel so early in the game because he was the main character of the first one and the one I care about I don't give a **** about abby, second omg the finale!! is just a disappointment i can't stand this piece if **** I just wanted to kill abby that ****ing character and revenge Joel.. Guys if this game was about revenge you game fail miserably. The third thing is how stupid Joel and his Brother were in the raid incident omg in the first game joel was more careful sharing information this is so stupid! and how he died is a brutality!

    Finally, 7 seven ****ing years i wait for this to come out only for get tricky and not to have the game that i thought could have, all this second part is a slap in the face for fans and a disrespect for the first one. At the very least, the way how they kill or die should align with their mindsets to make it reasonable. Characters in this game, nonetheless, contradict themselves in many ways. One example that fewer people have discussed is that one will only kill one person from an opposing group, sparing the rest of the group (whom were already captured) for later vengeance, under the Apocalyptic scenario. The lazy-written and ridiculous plot ruins both the old and new characters and makes them hardly authentic or likable.

    Inconsistent: A story should have a main theme to convey and should convey it consistently via the natural and progressive buildup by the plot. However, at the end of this game it uses 5 minutes to go abruptly against its theme throughout the previous 20-hour gameplay, making all these journeys and characters meaningless and even laughable, and the ideology the story trying to deliver hypocritical.

    Verdict: There're other issues like pacing and unnecessarily excessive violence (for nothing), but the flawed story/storytelling is the root of my dissatisfaction. It's a real shame that devs work overtime for such a beautifully crafted world just for the corrupted plot.    … Expand

    Lousy story. The story was so bad I regret buying to buy it. I was expecting a lot more considering the excellent first part but everything was ruined with this game. It feels that everything happened for nothing and I just wasted my time. Graphics are so good but the disapointment is just too big to ignore. Don't buy it. You'll be so, so disappointed.

I hated Abby since the beginning and I think that was the goal since she killed Joel so how can we like her , for me Joel is what made #tlou without him without his loss his agony his love the last of us won’t be the last of us. Having him die that way in the first act of the game was shocking & I couldn’t like Abby or justify what she did although the game tried to make me feel something toward her but I couldn’t, how can I forgive her ? The whole game is based on that premise of love, hate forgiveness. But I couldn’t forgive her as Ellie or as a player although Abby has been humanized in the flashback or her saving Liv but still she did something that till now it feels like she robbed us and she stole something that we love and cherish.… Expand

    Disgusting treatment of beloved characters - Imagine if the next Zelda game has Gannindorf kills Link in the worst way possible, spits on his corpse, and then forces you to control Gannondorf to hunt and kill Zelda.

    If this childish effort at writing is the direction that Sony is heading for PS5, then I will be seriously considering dropping out of consoles altogether. For context I'm a 43 year old man with a decent income that spends a lot of money on games and really do not like seeing what is happening with gaming at the moment. Se nota que el guión esta hecho en una sola dirección. Complacer los tiempos que marchan, estuve soportando andar de un lado al otro pero en cuanto matan a Joel, el juego acabó para mí, y aparte hacen de mala a ellie y pasas a manejar a abbie la mayor parte del juego, o sea no tiene sentido en la que de repente sus diálogos no concuerdan con lo que se nos presentó en el primero,, yo creo que no estoy preparado para ver este tipo de historias en un videojuego, para eso mejor veo una buena pelicula.… Expand

    I've been having trouble understanding the game's plotline and character development. The graphics, the sound, the animation quailty, it's all top notch. It falls apart horribly by the story however.

    How am i supposed to believe that Joel, a man who in the orginal is a born sceptic of everyone's motives just walks into a room full of armed people, not questing their motives one bit? The same Joel that ran a car over a dude in the first one because he did not believe him to be hurt ( and he was right)

    Then they go an kill off Joel in a really unstatsfying manner, making you play as the person who killed him for a good portion of the game, even making you curb stomb Ellie. I never wanted to lose a fight in a videogame more badly. Throughout the game we never get an choice to not do some of the horrible actions you do, but the game is all too happy to rub your face in it, when you have to do them to progress in the first place.
    Then u get to the ending and you dont even get to have sweet revenge, but you let your enemy walk away. She effectively wins and gets all she wanted with nothing you can do about it, and you have lost everything good going for you. It's 1 big piece of badly written misery, with not a single lighthearted touch anywhere. Save your money, stay far away from this garbage fire of a game.    … Expand

    After playing this I felt angry, confused and insulted that a game company would feel that this is acceptable to do.     Neil Druckman really destroyed this game by plaguing it with politics and his personal views. What makes it worse is that he killed off one of the best characters in Playstation's history. I'm giving this game a score of one just for the graphics, as those are pretty good, but that's about it.

    Overall, I take issue with almost the entirety of TLOU2 apart from general graphics. TLOU1 is essentially heavy on the story and character development side whereas TLOU2, I felt no connection and as for the story I still don't know what is going on. You jump around way too much due to a ridiculous amount of plot holes.

    They, naughty dog, decided to kill off Joel within 2 hours of initial game play and replaced the iconic and legendary character with another male. Woman? I honestly have no idea what Abby is. I sincerely don't and that is a huge problem. It's gender should not be subjective. It needs to be clearly defined because gamers are following THEIR story. I will assume Abby is a dude since his muscles are double the size of mine.

    Apart from Ellie and Abby, how do you follow the characters? There are so many.

    The sex scene between Abby and Owen, which I get is for a curb ball, should not be in a game. It was incredibly and horrifically cringe beyond contestation. I don't enjoy watching two gay men go at it. I don't. There should have been a warning - in fact a trigger warning - about the inevitable gay cut scene. My god I am going to jolt awake in my nightmares because of that scene. I wish I could unsee it.

    That's as far as I have gotten and I haven't turned the game on since. A little over 2 hours in. I am done. My refund is underway. How the F did naughty dog stray so far away from greatness? I mean it sincerely. TLOU1 exceeded all of my expectation and I had high expectations. TLOU2 is a disgusting joke to say the least. I am actually furious that I wasted my time.    … Expand

Many movies and entertainment products rarely ever exceed the prequel but this one completely demolished all built bonds and completely disrespects the characters like they meant nothing. It goes no where, you don't really care about the main characters and its just very poorly written for you to be fully engaged. I feel like its so bad that this could have been just an expansion released rather than a stand alone title. Definitely not worth 60.00. Pure disappointment.… Expand

В данном случае были бесплатно выданы, игра, премиум наушники сони стилизированные под игру, и стилизированный дуалшок. Если бы им высылали обычные цифровые стандартные версии не было бы таких оценок.

    No amount of graphics or art style which isn't anything special in tlou2 and gameplay which is mediocre it hardly improved from previous one, will make up for this boring slog through this game.

But those aren't the reasons why you buy The Last of Us games. The story is horrible. The death of Joel was handled so poorly. It was needlessly vicious and brutal and this is from someone who plays Doom. Not long ago Bungie killed off Cayde-6, a very beloved character, but they did it well, with respect to the fans and the character. What Naughty Dog did with Joel and the pointless revenge story after, is just bad. Don't waste your money. Preorder the new Paper Mario game or the upcoming Destiny 2 Beyond Light.… Expand

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
